Silvana. Doris: Could they possibly be cutting scenes so that the novela will finish by martres? I believe they did something similar with Eva la trailers.

SILVANA

SpanProf - that's a plausible theory.

General

I really, really hate Martres. In my opinion, it's an awful gimmick that probably damages the writers' vision of how the plots are supposed to unfold.

I lost sleep trying to decide which one to watch this time around. I don't normally care for comic novelas, but I settled on Silvana because my buddies here on Caray seemed to mostly be choosing that one. It's been pretty entertaining, actually, although I could do with less of the Three Stooges.

I will probably give La Doña a good try. But I do wonder if Araceli will manage to embody the character of Doña Bárbara as well as Edith González did. That was one of my favorite novelas of all time, made even richer by the fact that our Spanish class was - concidentally - reading the novel by Rómulo Gallegos at the same time!

SILVANA

Pardon my ignorance, but what do y'all mean by Martres?
I remember Telemundo got the scissors out and edited Reina De Corazones almost incomprehensible toward the end of its run.

General

Jude, Telemundo gave us a ton of announcements of Martres. What this was was having the final episodes of all three of their evening novelas on Monday. And then starting three new evening novelas on Tuesday. They tried to be clever calling it martres or martes + tres novelas nuevas.

General

Gracias, novelera. Really hope they don't rush SILVANA and edit it so badly that it's just a mishmash at the end. Especially after such a slow couple of months! Ugh.

Silvana

Which Martres are you all referring to? Next Tuesday?

SILVANA – LUNES – Parte 1 de 2

Fair warning. I’m skipping a lot tonight. I’m losing patience with what seems like a third of some episodes taken up with one or more of the Three Stooges.

We start off with Vicente and the new character, Alejandra, talking at the university. She’s opening flirting with him. He tells her he’s suffering with calculus. At first she says she’s a whiz at calculus but then clarifies that she already made so many mistakes that she’s learned a lot! There was sort of a vague plan of getting together so she can help him.

Andrés continues to chew out María José. He reminds her that she wanted to move ahead the wedding date [running from her feelings for Vicente, of course]. He says that, based on that, his mother pulled strings to get things set up. She starts up with the “Baby Boos” and the excuse that she wants her father there. He’s yelling that there’s no way to know how soon he’ll get out. She comes out with multiple es mí papás.

He’s furious and tells her how much he’s put up with from her, hasta ponerme el cuerno. [I’ve noticed that this expression seems to be used loosely in this novela. In this case it’s true, but Andrés doesn’t know she’s been physically unfaithful, but still calls what she did putting the horns on him.] For his parting shot, he says that she’s living next door to Vicente something that me mueve el piso (disturbs me a lot). Then he storms out.

Vicente is studying and struggling. Lucha says she can’t help him because she’s not good with numbers. Her forte is biology. Poncho arrives there seeking Lucha’s help in “leadership”. This scene goes on forever and is massively boring. Vicente does figure out that Poncho wants to supplant his father at the Terminal.

Chivis is telling Manuel about Rafa’s disgusting offer to help with AJ’s defense if she’s nicer to him (hand on her knee). Manuel’s reaction is predictable: ¡Voy a ir y romperle el hocico a ese! [I get a kick out of the usage of hocico - animal’s snout – as an idiom for a person’s face.] After they talk some more about this, Manuel comes up with a good idea. To get rid of all the people trying to threaten her over their relationship, why not go to the prison and tell AJ she’s in love with someone else y ya! [I like the sound of this, but of course she won’t do it.] She says he’d kill her. Manuel: “How’s he going to kill you in prison?”

Chivis then kind of supports what Vicente and Lucha were saying when she says there’s no telling what AJ might do if he knew about them. Manuel describes a loving future for them, describing their being in bed in the morning. Tú me vas a acurrucar [snuggle up to me]. Then he describes her sending him to make breakfast. She’s charmed out of her bad mood and says that he’s like a window for her, letting in the rays of the sun.

The next scene is at the prison and we see the orange whale coming into the visiting room to see Rafael. Rafa tells him the news is bad. Some of the people he defrauded saw the newspaper article about his being caught. They’ve filed some charges against him. Rafa says that he fears that just repaying the money he took won’t do it. What happened was fraud.

AJ reminds Rafa that he was involved in some shady business regarding a building and thus can’t back out of defending him. Rafa is stunned about the plan to get the bail money by playing the horses. AJ then tells him to make sure Chivis doesn’t lack for anything. He doesn’t want to give “the neighbor” a reason to move on her.

SILVANA – LUNES – Parte 1 de 2

Angie is seeing some photos of Benji on her computer, including a cute one when he was a baby. Then one comes up with Margarita. [I guess this must be Facebook or something because Benji wouldn’t have sent her one like that.] Then it appears that she drags the audio file out of her trash and hears Benji’s message that was left on Margarita’s phone. Angie looks destroyed. She starts to cry. Then she gets up and does the right thing. She calls Jorge.

Trini interrupts Chivis from her cat nap to show her the newspaper front page with AJ being taken away in handcuffs. She tells Chivis she went to see him, trying to get the truth. Chivis tells him she doubts AJ would tell her the truth. Trini then says that he asked about Manuel.

Jorge is in Angie’s bedroom and listens to the recording. He says that Margarita and Benji are crazy. He says that he can’t stand to see someone hurt Angie like that and he embraces her. When she calls herself una tonta, he replies that it’s not stupid to trust people. She tells him she was mistaken about Benji but was also mistaken about Jorge himself. She says she should not have refused to forgive him for something so insignificant.

Jorge tells Angie she’s in his head and in his heart; he can’t help it. He tells her that his father showed them a technique: taking the hurt, putting it into a box, and putting it into the closet. Later she can take it out and cry when he’s there to embrace her.

We see Stella’s ultrasound. Ultimately the doctor tells her she’s NOT pregnant.

Jorge has a plan. He tells Angie to text Benji to come see her in an hour.

Stella comes out of the ultrasound room and tells the male Stooges that she’s pregnant. She babbles on in her chipmunk voice. Poncho offers his name. But Stella says the baby, for now, [!] will have her name. When the doctor comes out calling her name, she starts to rush away and the male stooges carry her up an escalator.

Lupita writes a letter to her father. Later she’s eating ice cream with Pedrito who tells her about Uber and credit cards. [Methinks she’s going to try to go to the prison.]

We see Jorge’s plan. He’s lured Margarita to his house [also Angie’s house] by saying he’s cooked something for her. Benji pulls up just then in his red convertible. Angie walks out and plays the recording for the two conspirators.

MARTRES

Blue Fan, next Tuesday seems soon to me. If anyone knows when the gran finales on a Monday and the beginnings of three new novelas on Tuesday will occur, please chime in.

Silvana

Thanks for the recap novelera! I appreciate the Spanish too. Finally Margarita and Benji's plan is exposed! And Stella is not in fact pregnant. Interesting.

Silvana

Terrific recap, novelera. Many thanks! And special thanks for all the Spanish that you included and translated.

I too am VERY tired of the Three Stooges. And that includes scenes in which there's just one stooge, for example, Poncho's excruciating scene with Lucha and Vicente. Arrgh.

I wasn't sure whether Benji had sent the photos of himself to Angie and just didn't pay close enough attention to which ones he was sending, or whether Margarita sent them, luring Angie in with some cute photos so she'd look at them and then sneaking in the one with Margarita and Benji.

Loved your referring to AJ as "the orange whale"!

And yes, I think Lupita plans to go see AJ in jail. I think she even said something about fixing herself up so that she looks older and thus will be allowed in.

OK, if Stella isn't pregnant, what kind of illness does she have that's making her throw up so much?? The doctor didn't give any explanation (at least none that we heard), all he said was that she wasn't pregnant. I do wonder why he called after her as she was leaving. Was it to tell her what was wrong, or to give her some prescriptions to deal with it, or to tell her he'd made a mistake and she's pregnant after all?

Telemundo

I don't think that second martres is happening. Now I'm seeing rumors of La Doña starting on November 29. El Chema already has promos out so I think it will start in November too, but I doubt La Fan will. Plus I can't see Telemundo cutting out nearly 40 episodes of Silvana, and they haven't cut out anything so far. It's still pretty much a carbon copy of Pituca sin Lucas.

Martres

I couldn't find any mention of it on Telemundo's site earlier today, but I have a vague recollection that the date they gave was November 22. So the current novelas will end on Monday, Nov. 21. But I'm not wholly confident about those dates. I'd love to find them somewhere.

Silvana

I've got theater tickets for next Tuesday evening (October 25), so I won't be able to do a recap that night. Novelera, is there any chance that you'd be willing to swap Monday for Tuesday next week?

Silvana

Juanita, switching Monday to Tuesday works for me. Hopefully you'll remind me closer to the time.

SILVANA

Great recap! AJ the orange whale is perfect. Most people would lose weight whilst on th run/ in prison! He seems to get bigger every episode. It's hard to imagine Chivis married to him.

I am also D O N E with the Three Stooges. Poncho on particular really irritates me. The silly music they play when he's talking, his over-exaggerated acting. I hunk he'd be better suited to kids' tv. He did have some good points about immigrants building this country, etc but he was talked over rudely.

Silvana

Thanks very much, novelera, for being willing to swap Monday for Tuesday next week. I'll try to remind you over the weekend.

Silvana

thanks so much novelera!

seems like AJ doesn't have much of a plan, other than the lawyer gets him out on bail, hmm, I seem to have gotten that they will use the money he won on horses to bet on something bigger, but AJ wouldn't say what that was.

Silvana. Excellent recap, novelera! I too agree that the scene with Poncho, Lucha and Vicente was boring. Loved your "male stooges." I also wonder along with Juanita if the doctor wasn't coming out to tell Stella she was pregnant after all. (It seemed to me that it was awfully early for an ultrasound.) And I too wonder what Stella's end game is in faking a pregnancy. Good guess about Benji's photos being on facebook, and yep, calling Jorge is the right thing. I almost sympathized with Andrés, but it would be best if he and MJ broke up. I hope they're not planning some The Graduate type plot line, with things getting to the actual wedding before MJ turns him down. I loved the scene between Chivis and Manuel when she told him he was like a window for her.

SILVANA:

Perfect recap, novelera. Thank you for sparing us the details of Poncho's scenes.

The orange whale is a perfect description of AJ. Frankly, I don't see why Chivis is stressing herself out about finding AJ a lawyer. She gave it a good try, which is way more that he deserves. He can secure himself another lawyer or keep working with his skeevy lawyer. Why should she have to interact with him?

Love all scenes Chivis-Manuel, and upset at the writers for not giving us enough of them, while cramming the 3 Stooges down our throats.

Glad that Benji and Angie have been exposed, although it shouldn't have taken this for Jorge to realize that Marg is a vile person. I'm still bothered that he seems upset that Angie gave Benji a chance to be her boyfriend and not him. What about her not being ready at that time does he not understand? Had he been more patient, instead of jumping back into Marg's arms, then he and Angie likely would have been dating long ago, and this Benji mess wouldn't have happened.

Novelera, great recap. Thanks. I have not seen the episode and thanks to your review, I don't need to. I am happy however that the Margarita and Benji scheme was uncovered. I am curious to see what happens with Marg, Benji, Angie and Jorge going forward. I am not only tired of the three stooges but Majo and Andrés as well. Still, I am fascinated enough with the story to hang in there, thanks to the excellent recapping and comments from the patio. Mil gracias. Helen

Telemundo

None of the three evening novelas will be shown tomorrow night (Wednesday, Oct. 19) because of the presidential debate.

Silvana

I'll have the recap posted sometime tomorrow morning.

Hi everybody.

I am somebody new to hear so I don't want to push my boundaries or anything, but I've been really trying to keep up with this novela (i've been watching novelas for years, mostly Telemundo, and remember back fondly when they werent mostly drug stories, but still really good stories!) and thought that maybe it would make more sense if I could do it with you all. But, still, I'm now at the point with this Silvana sin lana where I really HAVE to ask you guys....

Has anything, really, actually HAPPENED in this story??? I just don't get it! I'm really tryihng to!

TRYING to (my spelling isn't THAT bad!) lol

SILVANA:

Unknown- LOL! No, nothing has really happened in this tn. It's pretty dull, but it's cute and the leads are endearing, although we don't get enough of them together. But I have to admit that episodes last night, that seemed to be 2/3 the Three Stooges, try my patience.

General

Something that has puzzled me for a while... What is Sin Senos Si Hay Paraiso about? See trailers for it all the time while watching SILVANA, and there is crazy ole Stefania from Reina de Corazones, and some handsome bearded dude grip-hugging a young woman who looks like she wants to walk away from them...? Also, my iTranslate comes up with some very cooky translations of the title of the show.

SILVANA SIN LANA (Cap. 63) - MARTES - Parte 1 de 3

The episode opens with Angie playing the recording of Benji's message to Margarita in front of Margarita, Jorge, and Benji. She asks Benji to explain it. Benji says the whole thing was Margarita's idea. Margarita starts screaming at him. Jorge tells Margarita she's a bad person. Angie tells Benji "I had scarcely begun to care for you, whereas I love Jorge" (a tí apenas a te empezaba a querer, y yo a Jorge lo amo). The Jorge-Angie theme music plays. Suddenly Benji strikes Jorge, and Jorge hits him back hard. Margarita makes some nasty remarks, after which she leaves with Benji. Angie asks Jorge if he's OK. He says he is, and he adds that he had never hit anyone before. He asks Angie if she'd like to talk. She says this isn't a good time, and she goes inside her house.

Majo comes downstairs and see Angie upset. Angie tells her that Benji was deceiving her the whole time (Benjamin me estuvo engañando todo este tiempo), and that he'd only been going with her because Margarita asked him to. Angie is afraid that she'll never have a normal relationship. Majo tries to comfort her and gives her advice. She tells Angie that she's got to learn how to differentiate between good lies and bad lies. What Benji did was very bad, but what Jorge did was not so bad, it was just a foolish act (bobada). Majo continues, "You're too hard on yourself and on other people. And I'm talking not just about Jorge, but also about our father." Majo tells Angie that she understands Angie's anger and resentment toward AJ, and she admits that he's not the "daddy del año," but he loves them. Angie reminds Majo that their father abandoned them when they needed him most. Majo replies, "We're all human beings, we make mistakes. We all need second chances in life."

In the other half of the house, Lucha bandages Jorge's hand. She tells him that the next day it's likely to be more swollen (hinchada), but at least it's not sprained (esguince).

Back on the other side of the wall, Chivis is in her bedroom reading the paper. She takes out a box containing memorabilia, and looks at the article that appeared in the newspaper when she and Antonio José got married. They were clearly a couple whose social status merited an article and a photo. We see the photo, which shows someone who looks very much like Chivis and a groom who looks to me nothing like Antonio José.

As Chivis is staring at the photo, she hears Manuel calling to her from the balcony. He offers her chocolates "to sweeten your life." She tells him that AJ asked Trini about him. Manuel tells her that AJ acts as if he's her owner, but he can't be her owner, because she has no price. Chivis replies that AJ is still her husband, and since they're not legally divorced, AJ has the right to expect her faithfulness (él está en su derecha de exigirme fidelidad). Manuel responds that faithfulness can't be required, it comes from trust, and it's been a long time since AJ has deserved her trust. The conversation shifts to Manuel's dealings with the greedy landlord, Don Ezequiel. Chivis advises Manuel to negotiate a percentage, and to give up a little. She says she has known such people and their dirty dealings. Manuel thanks her for her advice. She tells him she's glad that at least she's able to help him with something. "Help me?" he replies. "You came to complete my life."

SILVANA SIN LANA - MARTES - Parte 2 de 3

Lupita knocks on the bathroom door and tells Chivis, who is bathing inside, that she has written a letter for her father and would like Chivis to take it to him. Chivis agrees. Lupita goes into Chivis' bedroom to leave the letter for her. She comes upon the newspaper with its front-page account of AJ's arrest and a second front-page article about AJ's having committed more fraud. Lupita looks at the newspaper and then tears out the second article and keeps it, perhaps because it has a better photo of AJ. She puts back the rest of the paper and again knocks on the bathroom door, this time telling her mother to forget about the letter for AJ, she can bring it another time. She then hurries away, almost crashing into Trini along the way.

There's a very long and immensely stupid segment involving Dominique's attempt to take the cover off the cage containing Francisco Javier II. Dom is later joined by Poncho, dressed in a jacket and tie and sporting a new haircut, part of Poncho's attempt to be a leader. [Fast Forward>>]

Margarita, undoubtedly embarrassed by the revelation of her plan with Benji, decides she wants to skip school. We see her trying to warm up a thermometer by rubbing it and blowing on it. She's successful. When Don Benito comes down, he finds her sprawled on the couch with the thermometer in her mouth. She claims she feels sick and thinks she may have a virus. She takes the thermometer out of her mouth, looks at it, and shows it to DB, who says she should not go to school and that perhaps he should call the doctor. She assures him there's no need to do that [that's the first honest thing she has said in a while]. She'll simply rest and drink lots of water, and she's sure she'll feel better.

Jorge comes up to Angie at school. She asks about his bandaged hand. They talk. He has his "I told you so" moment about Benji. She admits he was right. He then asks, "Why did you say yesterday that you loved me?" Angie just smiles. She then gives him a present: a nail. He's puzzled [as is Viewerville]. She smiles and tells him that it's in case he wants to make another hole in the wall. She then says "if you want to hang up a photo of me." She seems to be taking Majo's advice and is letting Jorge know that she forgives him.

The scene shifts to Andrés' house, where his mother tells him they have to talk. To his astonishment, she tells him that he has to suspend the wedding. He's angry. He tells her if she's saying this because of what Majo's father has done, forget it. "I know what he did is serious and that he did bad things to many people, but he still may be able to prove his innocence." She replies that he will not be able to prove his innocence: "He defrauded your father. He cheated him out of a large sum of money" (Antonio José engañó a tu papá. Le estafó con una fuerte suma de dinero). Andrés is very upset. He accuses his parents of not wanting him to marry Majo because of what her father did, but it doesn't matter. "It's my decision, not yours," he tells her. She says that she feels warmly toward Majo, but "what her father did to us is unforgiveable." She then tells him that his father's lawyers have already formally sued AJ (Ya los abogados de tu papá demandaron formalmente a Antonio José).

Stella comes home, finds that Francisco Javier is still in his cage, and tries to reason with him. She talks to the dog as if he were her teen-aged son. [Perhaps this is only natural, given that Stella is a perra.]

SILVANA SIN LANA - MARTES - Parte 3 de 3

Poncho is at the fish terminal in his jacket and tie. He has a loudspeaker and tries to make a speech. Dom grabs the loudspeaker and tells him to stop, what he's doing is embarrassing. Poncho tries again. This time Vicente stops him. He tells Poncho that his father is trying to negotiate with the landlord. The noise Poncho is making is going to ruin the negotiation (se va a echar a perder la negociación). Poncho tells Vicente that Manuel is not the same effective leader that he used to be. He, Poncho, wants to be the new leader. Vicente laughs and says that based on Poncho's attempt the day before, Poncho would have the landlord raising them 10% and more. Poncho is unhappy.

Stella spots Chivis sitting by herself outside the terminal. She comes over to talk with her and eventually tells her that she's pregnant. Chivis congratulates her. Then Stella tells her that Manuel is the father. Chivis tells her to stop inventing things. Stella tells Chivis that when she sees her belly grow, she'll know that she's not inventing. Chivis is unhappy.

Manuel arrives at the fish terminal and happily announces that they've negotiated for three years. They're only going to raise the rent 5%, and that won't apply until the next year. Everyone cheers. Everyone but Poncho, who is crestfallen, and Chivis, who sits at her table glaring at Manuel. Dom comes over to Poncho and says that Manuel is a true leader, not like Poncho. Poncho replies, "There's something fishy going on" (Aquí hay gato encerrado).

Manuel, still happy, comes over to Chivis and tells her that he took her advice and all went well. She says very coldly, "I'm happy." Manuel asks her what's wrong. Nothing, she replies. I'm happy. She says she knew things would go well and so she brought some bottles of champagne. She walks off. He asks, "Aren't you going to celebrate?" No, she says, I'm going to your office to work. He asks whether he did something to her. She walks off without replying.

Lucha is home studying when there's a knock at the door. It's a jubilant Marco. He kisses her and tells her he has a proposal for her. He tells her that he was at the university, and the committee wants her to run as a candidate for president of the medical students association.

Back at the fish terminal, Poncho proposes a toast to Manuel, who "after so many years of leadership, leaves the way paved for his natural successors. Because perhaps this will be the last year in his term of office."

Dom sees Stella drinking champagne and tells her it's bad for the baby. She dismisses this, saying the baby will be healthy like its father. She then gloats about how unhappy she has made Chivis. Dom tells her to stop being so nasty. The venom is bad for the baby.

After making his toast, Poncho says he'd like to talk to Manuel for a few minutes. He starts by asking Manuel not to call him "Ponchito." He can use "Poncho" or "Alfonso." Manuel smiles and replies that if Poncho would like, he'll call him "Don Poncho" or "Don Alfonso." Poncho asks to see the contract with Don Ezequiel. When Manuel is puzzled by this request, Poncho explains that he wants to be the leader. Manuel makes light of this, but Poncho tells him not to laugh at him. As the leader, Manuel should instruct him, not make fun of him. Poncho says he should take what he says seriously, because in the next elections, "I'm going to be your rival" (voy a ser tu contrincante). Manuel doesn't take him seriously, and leaves to go to his office, muttering under his breath, "A leader! Who's he kidding?" Poncho calls after him, "I hope this doesn't affect our friendship!" (¡Espero que esto no afecte nuestra amistad!) We hear the music "Hail to the Chief" as the episode ends.

Silvana
Actually, the man in the newspaper article is a younger picture of actor Roberto Escobar.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0260348/?ref_=tt_cl_t18

I'm so glad that the whole Margarita/Benji plot was exposed. There's no way now that Jorge will EVER get back with her like she wants.

Silvana. Excellent and very complete recap, Juanita. Loved your analysis to Stella's talking to FJ II as if he were her teenage son--"perhaps this is only natural, given that Stella is a perra". I also liked "the first honest thing she has said in a while." Jorge is so sweet. Of course he's never hit anyone before; he's too nice a guy. The groom in the picture doesn't look much like AJ, but at least he's younger and better looking. Those weren't just chocolates that Manuel gave Chivis, but chocolate-covered strawberries, I think. YUM. (though somewhat symbolic?) Majo's advice to Angie is funny--but some of it is sensible. How convenient for the plot that Andrés's father is one of Antonio José's swindling victims, and also one of the people suing AJ! Stella has finally gone too far with her lie to Chivis about being pregnant by Manuel. That is just downright cruel!

Silvana

OMG! Roberto Escobar played the evil rich guy in Bajo el mismo cielo! I'd never have guessed the guy in the photo was the same "orange whale" (to quote novelera) that we see in Silvana sin lana nor, for that matter, Evil Allan in Bajo. Thanks VERY much, britishcomedyfan, for recognizing that the guy in the wedding photo is indeed a much younger AJ.

Silvana

Thanks very much, SpanProf. I must have missed the fact that the chocolates were indeed chocolate-covered strawberries, but as you point out, that makes symbolic sense. Sweetness surrounding the fresas. Great point!

Silvana:

Juanita: I didn't know that Roberto Escobar was in "Bajo El Mismo Cielo"

SILVANA:

Thank you, Juanita! The balcony scene with the strawberries was the best. Left me smiling. Not happy that Chivis fell for Stella's lies, and then didn't even tell Manuel why she was acting so salty.

Is there anyone in their circle that AJ didn't swindle? Not surprised Andres' father was another victim. But why don't we ever see him? And why does Andres still think he and MJ are getting married in a month? Did they make up from their last fight, and we just didn't see it?

Mauro is so adorable. I really want him to be Lucha's end-game novio. Forget Andres!

Silvana. Juanita: Not to mention that my mouth has been watering ever since that chocolate-covered strawberry scene. :)

GENERAL/SIN SENOS:

Jude Gray- Since I'm not sure how often the folks watching Sin Senos, Si Hay Paraiso are checking in, I'll attempt to answer your questions from my limited knowledge. The three people in the promos are father, mother and daughter. The parents are desperately trying to protect their daughter (the heroine) from the life of narcos, crime, and sexual exploitation that killed the girl's namesake and older sister in the prequel to this tn-- Sin Senos/Tetas No Hay Paraiso (Without Tits, There is No Paradise). In the prequel, the heroine was the girlfriend of the guy who's the father of the heroine in the current tn. He hooked up with his girlfriend's mother in the previous tn, and now in this one they are married and the parents of the heroine, and super paranoid/over-protective of their daughter, trying to keep her from the evils that did in her big sister/namesake.

Silvana. I liked how Chivis' advice seems to be what was responsible for Manuel's bargaining success with don Ezequiel. He gave in a little so that Ezequiel would give in a lot. Also, wonder where the plotline planted in the last episode about Lupita's going to try to see her father in jail will play out.

SILVANA:

SpanProf- Thanks for the reminder. I meant to say that Lupita likely tore out the article because it said which prison her father is in. I bet she is going to go to the prison now that she knows exactly where he i.

Silvana

Super busy today so very late in commenting. Juanita, thanks so much for another splendid recap, complete with snarky asides.

Britishcomedyfan, thanks for identifying that the guy in the wedding picture is a younger version of the whale. Pretty funny.

Margarita was so evil and now she’s too cowardly to go to school and face the music. She’s fortunate indeed that the person she tried to make miserable is probably too nice to broadcast what Margarita did to the whole school.

I was very disappointed in Chivis. She SAID she didn’t believe Stella, but it appears she did, based on the way she treated Manuel. I hate it when telenovela characters do this…hear a lie and immediately blame the person they love without outright asking if it’s true or not.

I can’t imagine what Stella is thinking. If she believes Chivis and Manuel ARE an item, then she should realize that Chivis might very well tell him what she said. Is she planning an old telenovela trick I saw a few times, padding her stomach and planning to steal someone else’s baby at the last minute? Surely not in a comedy novela. Plus, Dom has told her flat out Manuel won’t fall for it without some proof. Or are they going with the doctor trying to chase Stella at the clinic meaning somehow she really IS pregnant.

Poncho is making a complete ass of himself all the time. So I’m not so sorry for him if he indeed ends up with Stella. They deserve each other.

Yep, that was great that Silvana’s advice about negotiating the rate increase resulted so well. They have a whole year to plan for the increase of only 5%, not 10%.

So…another reason for the Andrés and Majo wedding not happening anytime soon. I can’t wait to see Majo’s face when Andrés tells her that Daddy Dearest swindled her almost in-laws.

novelera & J
Thank you for your recaps of Monday and Tuesday's episodes. Hopefully I'll get caught up tomorrow on watching my recordings.

I'm so glad Margarita's plot has been made known to all involved. That girl needs to grow up and learn that it's not all about her. We'll probably see her again in future telenovelas as a "baddie."

Enough with the three stooges/musketeers. At this rate, it will be fine with me if they wrap this thing up in November. What more can happen to our main storyline? (oops..... never ask that about a telenovela .....)

Silvana

I'll put up some kind of a recap Thursday, length depending the subsequent variables of this formula:

a = energy level of aging recapper
b = percentage of episode involving one or all of the Stooges

Actually that's an odd formula since both those values COULD be negative.

Gah, proofread, novelera. Length depending ON the...

Viví in DC~ thanks! I thought the title of the tn must be wrong, that it must mean something else. Without tits there is paradise..?! What on earth?

SENOS:

Jude Gray- It refers to the popularity of getting breast implants among poor girls in narco infested areas (especially in Columbia) to make them more appealing to Narcos who then makes these girls their lovers and shower them with gifts and wealth. It's like a way for a girl to get out of poverty. Thing is, they usually have to do not so great things to be able to afford the implants (drug mule, prostitution, etc.). The original title in Columbia uses the word Tetas (tits), but for the US audience, they change the word to Senos (breasts).

Viví in DC - gracias! Learn something new every day :)

SILVANA-

Our DVR did not record an episode last night (Wednesday). Was it preempted for the debate?

Silvana

Yes, doris, all three evening novelas were preempted by the debate and related programming. There was an announcement on the Telemundo y Más cover page. I also posted an announcement about this here on Tuesday.

Juanita - thank you. I failed to read your comment about the show preemption.

GENERAL

Hi guys! I just stumbled across this piece in today's New York Times and thought you might enjoy it:

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/21/us/telenovela-soap-operas.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=second-column-region&region=top-news&WT.nav=top-news

It's about the plight of Miami-based Telemundo actors who aren't exactly living large on what they are paid by the network. The story focuses on Pablo Azar, a popular and familiar actor to us Telemundies, who drives for Uber to make ends meet. Check it out!

¡Besos!

Hola, NovelaMaven. Great to hear from you! And thanks for the link to the fascinating and troubling article about Telemundo's treatment of many of its actors. They need an activist like Carlos from Bajo el mismo cielo or Manuel from Silvana sin lana to fight for their rights. I mean, these guys did it in the novelas, how hard could it be to transfer those skills to Real Life? :-) (Actually, the actors playing Carlos and Manuel, namely Gabriel Porras and Carlos Ponce, probably already have very nice contracts from Telemundo, but still, surely they've learned something from the roles they played. :-) )

Hope to see more of you here. You've been missed.

Hola, Juanita! That's very sweet of you. I've missed you too. One of these days, a Telemundo novela is going to catch my attention again. (BTW, I noticed that Netflix is running CELIA these days, in case anyone missed it and wants to catch up. I watched it on TV and thought it was both amazing and horrible... oh but the music, the music...)

Anyway, I'm glad you found the article interesting. Yes, I suppose the alpha males are well-paid as are the Queen Bees. But it's Telemundo who is making out like a bandit. Sad.

Hi, NovelaMaven. What a coinkidink! I just read the article about Pablo Azar and commented in the comments area, replying especially to some guy who basically said: Why does Pablo need to be an actor and complain about the wages? My reply was that, having been born in Mexico City, he's likely not eligible for regular 9-5 jobs that require a green card. Maybe he does have one; who knows? Anyway, what a stupid thing for him to say. He thinks Pablo needs to give up what he loves and go to work as a CPA or something.

And it does leave a sour taste in my mouth that Telemundo is raking in the dough and not paying actors who are not leads fairly. Maybe the article will cause a fuss that would make them re-think things.

And, yes, I miss you too. Are you recapping something on Univisión? I don't think I've noticed anything by you. But I do scroll down rather quickly to the Telemundo area.

GENERAL

Hi Novelera! Good for you! I'm glad you spoke up. (Many of the reader comments are surprisingly dyspeptic.)

No, I'm not recapping anything at the moment but I'm sure I'll be dumb enough to raise my hand at some point and then spend the next eight months or so regretting the impulse. Good to "see" you, amiga. :)
