Vino el Amor 10/26/16 Chapter 2: More Snakes in the Grass
Bullet points (some combined)
- Lisa tried to comfort Marta. She knew that Lillian has bothered her.
- Juan arrived at La Migra to tell Gutierrez that Marcos' papers are pending. They go into an office to discuss this. Gutierrez didn't give a damn, saying that this is trumped by Marcos hitting him. Juan started backing off and got a call from David. When David got there Juan said to leave it all to him. However, he caved on the issue and Gutierrez laughed. Later at home David explained that Marcos was defending his daughter. He then told Juan he needs a lawyer who specializes in these cases. Lillian must have been silently gloating, as she was in the room.
Perla knew that Lillian is enjoying all this and said so in front of Marta and the boys. Ramon, the father of the littlest boy, tried to comfort Marta.
- Marcos and Luciana arrived in Tijuana. They called Marta to assure her they were alright and both talked to her and to León. However the call was cut off before Marcos could talk to Marta again.
- Graciela arrived home in San Diego. She apparently has a sugar daddy named Jose. He arrived and they started getting busy.
- Marcos went looking for help in getting back and they end up in a pool hall to meet with El Coyote. This guy looks like very bad news and he wanted $15K US, which Marcos doesn't have. He asked how old Luciana is because she could be worth mucho dinero. [Scumbag.] When Marcos and Luciana tried to leave El Coyote's goons surrounded them. Luciana got angry and started telling them off. El Coyote laughed.
- Lillian made light of David's concern at losing Marcos' expertise. Lisa got on her case about her trash-talking other people, especially Lillian's cruelty to Marta. This lead to a standard toxic mother question “What are you trying to say? That you prefer Marta to me?” [Vitch!] Lisa got nothing positive out of this from a snob who thinks that workers are lower than dirt and can't be trusted. There was a leading statement about Lisa's father that he lost a lot of money and was unfaithful. Lisa demanded to know with whom, but Lillian didn't want to talk any more about it. [So what else is new?]
- The bar owner told off El Coyote about the disturbance. El Coyote told Marcos they will talk the next day. After Marcos and Luciana left he told his goons that they will sell the girl. They all gloated. [They will all end in the ninth circle of hell.]
- Marcos told Luciana she has to be careful. They went to the Hotel Juarez to get some sleep so he can look for work in the morning. One of the goons followed them and reported back to his boss.
- David talked to someone specializing in human rights violations. Lisa is weary of fighting with Lillian.
- Marcos woke up in the middle of the night and noticed that Luciana fell asleep against the door holding a broomstick. She had been on guard duty, she said. He put her in the bed and told her to get some real sleep.
- Graciela, who had earlier torn a photo in half to keep the half with David, called Lisa just for show.
- David explained to Marta that the legal process to get Marcos and Luciana back could take five years. He later told her that he would understand if she wanted to go to Mexico instead.
- Lillian had a coffee date with Gutierrez, who thanked her. She give him the “just doing my duty as a citizen” BS while flipping her fan and grinning. He actually indicated an interest in dating her, but she said she didn't date her late husband's friends. No explanation. He doesn't get it as they have prejudices in common. He even told her she was pretty. She flipped her fan open, told him she was going to San Diego for a while, “...and when I get back, we'll see.” [He may be a major patán, but he can certainly do better.]
- Marcos tried to call the main house later but Lillian answered the phone. She told him Marta wasn't there...right in front of her. She ended the call and lied to Marta about someone calling for David. This was followed by Marcos having no luck finding work.
- David leaned on Juan to get some results on Marcos' case. Juan asked him if he couldn't just hire someone else and he answered that he could but Marcos was the best. His absence could have a domino effect on everything leading up to the wine production he is planning. In fact, he wanted all the workers' documentation in order ASAP. He pays good wages and wants to keep these people.
- Luciana pleaded with her father to let her find work. He refused, saying she belonged in school.
- Ramon collected money from the other workers to help Marcos. Marta told him she didn't know where to send it. Marcos called but neither he nor Luciana saw El Coyote's goons watching them. Marta told him she decided that she and León will return to Mexico.
- Juan was in his office talking to an unidentified person, saying that he is in no hurry to process the immigration papers. The net of this conversation is that he is going to betray David. Lillian heard some of this from the doorway. [She will either blackmail him or make an accomplice of him.]
- The goons reported back to El Coyote with a sense of urgency. He told them they were going to grab the girl and if they had to get rid of the father, so be it. [Where are the pitchforks?]

I am not happy at all with the dark places this may be going with Luciana and Marcos. That might be the deal breaker.
BTW, all I could think of when Luciana and Marcos were in their hotel room was: CLOSE THE DRAPES. Do they really want people watching them/being able to see them when they sleep or when Luciana is "sitting guard" at the door? That was a real "Duh" moment.
How long before David finds out that Juan cannot be trusted?
Trivia: I just thought: the last time I saw Alejandro Ávila (Marcos) and Victoria Jaspeado (yet to be seen character) together was in LQLVMR. There was another group from the same novela in TVA with Sebastián Rulli, Angelique Boyer and Ana Bettha Espín.
Time to make coffee!
"[He may be a major patán, but he can certainly do better.]" Well my question from yesterday answered. Now I know why Gutierrez took extra care in manhandling Marcos and Luciana but yuck.
Did Perla seem a bit snippy when Luciana was mentioned?
Marla, take this number, its the trac phone I got at Walmart and can you ask David to book us at the Holiday Inn near the airport for a couple days till we sort this out? Oh, don't be silly, no way I would take Luciana into some seedy bar looking for a Coyote, you think I'm stupid?
Juan cannot hide a sneer is David blind?
Don't think I would have picked the same spot as Lisa to swim in the river.
Why the hell was Lisa swimming there? Is it that hot in Sonoma?
Tofie- Yes, Perla seems like a little witch in training and was flippant about Luci and Marcos never coming back, and teasing Miguel about his crush on Luci.
Urban- The other thing Juan was saying on the phone is that he's going to steal from David by inflating all of the invoices a bit, and skimming off the top. I'm sure Lil will want a piece of that action, in addition to approving his plan to drag his feet on helping all the workers get legal status.
Graciela's guy in San Diego mentioned something about getting her art in some gallery. So it seems she's an artist of some sort.
"After Marcos and Luciana left he told his goons that they will sell the girl. They all gloated. They will all end in the ninth circle of hell" was perfectly stated.
"Graciela, who had earlier torn a photo in half to keep the half with David". Hmmm, a similar scene was in El Color. Is lust for their sister’s hubbies the newest TN trend?
Gutierrez “[He may be a major patán, but he can certainly do better.]”. Amen to that Urban!!
"BTW, all I could think of when Luciana and Marcos were in their hotel room was: CLOSE THE DRAPES". I know Jarifa! Did no one tell them hiding in plain sight is not a good idea?? Ever??
tofie, "Don't think I would have picked the same spot as Lisa to swim in the river" made me smile. I wouldn't have either...
"The goons reported back to El Coyote with a sense of urgency. He told them they were going to grab the girl and if they had to get rid of the father, so be it. [Where are the pitchforks?]". Disgusting and despicable.
I think this will get further along once the time switch happens.
UA, thank you again!!
Diana
Thank you for the information that Juan is a double crosser by not only thwarting the legalization, he is also stealing.
Lili seems to be omnipresent and eavesdropping her greatest skill. No heart. No conscience.
The question that is nagging me the most is why did Lili go to such evil extremes to brak up Marcos and his family? Was is just pure jealousy or is there something else I've missed??
Diana
Ugh, coyotes circling a young girl to sell her while a very guileless boss back in the states trusts the wrong people. I'm trying to hang in there at least till the time jump.
So the evil mother-in-law is Australian?
The little tyke seems so attached to Cynthia. I know she had a child (not sure how long ago), I wondered if she was her daughter (?) Just a thought.
I like Lisa and am sad that tragedy is going to strike...
Appreciate it...
Diana
Lisa never has to be dependent on her vitch of a mother; David has enough money to have two nannies for Fernanda. Also, Lisa knows her mother has major attitude about the wrong things. Lillian needs a hobby.
If her husband was unfaithful it must have been with a "wetback" but it certainly wasn't Marta, who truly loves her husband. Now I am wondering how Lillian's husband died and it would not surprise me if she took out an insurance policy on him and offed him herself.
BTW, I'm referring to our new villain as El Coyote because we have no other name for him yet (I don't recall seeing this actor before so I couldn't identify him in IMDB). I'm wondering whether there will be more like him in this tale.
When the time jump happens Gabriel Soto will have his first experience playing the father of a young adult. He's only 40 so this is coming early in his career.
I do not like the direction this novela is taking. I hope that those creepy guys do not get their hands on Luci or hurt Marcos.
Diana, I noticed that in the first episode, the little girl was reaching for someone off camera when Lisa was holding her. She reached for Cynthia in the house when Lisa was holding her. Perhaps she is Cynthia's daughter.
The young actors should be speaking English. The younger you are when you come to the U.S..., the faster you learn ENglish and sound like a native speaker. MY students always complain to me that when they speak to their children in their native language, they respond in English.
Jarifa, I totally agree with you! Hiding in plain sight in situations when a (insert word of choice) coyote wants to sell your daughter was a bad choice for Marcos, but I understand why he did it. I just hope that after the next few capítulos we never see the coyote again. Oddly, he reminds me of Pote from LRDS. Don't ask why.
As for Lisa, I have a bad feeling that soon something's going to happen to her. It wouldn't surprise me if Graciela was behind it.
And Lillian... I think you all have covered already how despicable she is, so I'm just going to leave that can of worms closed for now. It was a nice little tidbit finding out the actress is Brit-Mex. I give her credit for trying with the accent.
What did surprise me is Juan speaking English so well. Christian has to be close to fluent if he isn't already.
As for it being on Hulu, yep! It is. (By the way, just in case anyone wants to know, Mexico is already on episode 59.)
And just one personal thing, feel free to call me Madi. All of my friends do.
It's sad but true Jarifa. I'm okay with a few narconovelas but honestly the narco plot is getting old for me. Sadly it's what's popular right now.
So from the first episode, we have already found the character that we love to hate!
The actors seem to be very good too and being relatively new to the world of telenovelas, (since Hotel) I think we are in for some very fine acting.
1.) Lillian is Deborah Sanders 2.0
2.)The corrupt Border Patrol officers are involved with drug-trafficking syndicates.
3.) Marcos & Luciana are still in danger.
4.) We all better prepare ourselves for Elisa's likely demise because it's going to be the catalyst of what comes next down the road.
Gutierrez is doing a fine job of making himself look bad.
This TN does a really good job of distinguishing the good characters from the bad. I like it so far.
I watched maybe 15 minutes of this last night. I found it very unpleasant because:
- Lillian is such a harpy. Like, over the top mean.
- David is so clueless. I hate clueless galans.
- I can't wait till the Coyote is out of the story, ick.
- I didn't enjoy coffee with Gutierrez, either. I think Lilian should give him a chance, because although maybe he can do better, I'm not so sure that she could.
I didn't see much of Luciana, but I liked her spirit, valiantly guarding the door (asleep) while daddy slept.
Anyway... I'll try again tonight, but so far, I'm finding the recaps much more palatable.
Love it and I totally agree.
Diane
If Marcos is really that irreplaceable it seems like David should have got his immigration status worked out before this, and by someone other than Juan who keeps whining about how its so ha-aard to do and whining is the only thing he seems to do, despite Grace thinking he's working too much for someone who barely graduated and only has his job b/c his bestie owns the co. Though I have to give David credit for wanting to get all his workers papers worked out if only so he himself won't get in trouble for employing the undocumented.
Vivi thanks for the info about Juan's planned embezzlement and Grace's artist thing, those were two things I just caught the edge of but didn't really understand.
