Vino el Amor 11/21/16 Episode 17 Out of the Mouths of Babes

This episode is by Sonia, who did this one by accident, so I get this week off.

Family outing time!! But Fernanda isn’t going if Luciana is. Luciana graciously offers not to go so that David can spend with time with his kids. But then David isn’t having that.

Meanwhile, Carito is dreading going on a date with Leon. Perla encourages her to have. “Let him buy you something nice. The whole point is that Miguel sees you having fun”. So as soon as Miguel walks into the room, Carito gets her head in the game. And off they go!

David scolds Fernanda for being rude to Luciana. She’ll go if she has to but that doesn’t mean she’s going to enjoy it.

Back at Juan’s office, Lillian has hit the panic button. Juan says it’s every man for himself right now. Gutierrez arrives to pick Marta up for their date. Lillian is spying on them behind them. Wow, Lillian’s day just keeps getting worse and worse.

Okay Leon is so sweet. He offers to buy Carito anything that she wants.

Marta and Gutierrez’s date seems to be going okay. Turns out he’s a second generation Mexican but 100% American. He’s also never connected with his Mexican roots but for Marta he will.

Over at the Robles family outing, everyone is having a good time except for Fernanda. She tells her dad she wants to hang with her friends instead. They’ll meet up for lunch

Leon tries so hard to show Carito a good time. He does some silly dance moves. Its cute.

Perla mocks Miguel for not having anyone to go to Napa with. Where is your precious Luciana? Speaking of her, Miguel warns Perla to leave Luciana alone.

David looks on as Luciana and Bobby bond. This man is falling hard.

Juan and his luscious lips look sad. Perla comes into his office wanting to know what the next steps are. She wants to become his secretary. She tries to touch him but he gets violent and tells her to back off. What a douche.

A cute montage of all the couples + Fernanda in Napa having a grand ole’ time. Even with her friends Fernanda doesn’t seem to be having a good time, even with her friends. Carito at the very least seems to have warmed up to Leon a little bit.

Once they get home and the kids go off to bed, David thanks Luciana for the day. “Hopefully we can do it again soon” and then leans in to kiss her. Luciana thanks him and bids him a good night.

Leon and Carito return to the house. Carito thanks him for the gift obviously trying hard to make Miguel jealous but he’s too busy looking at papers to even notice/care. Leon goes on and on about how Carito is the best woman in the entire world. Sure, he spent all his money, but to him it was totally worth it. Marta walks in and she wants a word with her son. She doesn’t think it’s right for Leon to date a woman who treats his sister badly. Leon looks conflicted.

Next morning, Bobby is telling Sonia about yesterday. “I don’t know why he’s treating her this way. She’s only a simple employee” Sonia says. “ So are you.” Dammmnn, Bobby. Good one!
Sonia insists that she’s not just an employee, she’s Lillian’s right hand woman. Fernanda still doesn’t get what her dad sees in Luciana. “You are becoming just as bitter as our grandmother” Bobby tells her.

Carito is moping outside of the house. Perla has great news! She’s going to be Juan’s secretary! Dreams do come true! But it turns out that Carito isn’t upset about Miguel. This time it's because her cousin, the one that's going to join her in California, was cheated out of his money by a coyote who promised to cross him over. Now he’s stuck in Tijuana with no money and hiding from those men. Perla’s tells her that it’s not her responsibility. He’s a grown man, he knew what he was doing. Carito has a better idea. She’s going to send him her savings.

Lillian is with her bff. The new mystery buyer is ruining their plans. This is all Luciana’s fault, Lillian claims.

Miguel runs into Luciana en el campo. He found out that she went to Napa with el Patron. He begs her not to give people something to talk about. He already spoke to Perla, he’s not going to let them bother her. Miguel wants to know what is wrong. Luciana doesn’t know what she wants and she doesn’t want to hurt him. Miguel insists that that is his decision. He’s going to keep insisting until she is absolutely certain. All she’s sure of is that she cares for him. Miguel tells her, “Your heart is here with me”. Swoon.

Sonia tries to tell David that the children told her about the outing with Luciana, but David isn’t hearing it. He’s focused on the buyer who is set to be there any minute. The “buyer” comes. Juan’s too late. He asks for a word with David outside. “Are you absolutely certain that you don’t want to sell the vineyard?” he asks David. “I don’t have another choice. Stop making me doubt” and with that David signs the contract with the “buyer”. But wait, the buyer has an associate that he wants David to meet. And again just like that, Graciela swaggers into the room and back into David’s life.
Juan asks how she has money to buy the large amount of wine that is going to save David’s vineyard. He wants to know why she didn’t just contact him. She claims that she isn’t doing it for him but for her sister’s children. We all know the truth.

Marta finds Luciana outside of the house and confronts her about the trip to Napa with David. She basically repeats everything that Miguel said. She doesn’t want Luciana to get her hopes up. Marta encourages her daughter to set her sights on someone who is like her, someone like Miguel. She’s talking from experience. This is referring to Lillian’s husband. I want to know more of this story because something big must have happened for Lillian to hate Marta the way she does.

Sonia lets Lillian know that Luciana had the audacity to go on an outing with David and his children. They are interrupted by Juan who is still reeling at the fact that Graciela is back. Lillian is worried. Lilian is furious but Juan tells her to cut the bull. She’s never been able to control Graciela and she knows it. These bffs can’t believe their luck.

Graciela is sooo fake when talking to David. She tells him that she only wanted to help him and her biggest mistake was leaving after her sister dies, but you know murdering her isn’t a regret.
She wants David to know that she is a different person and she wants him to confide in her. I’m sorry, but I really like Graciela and I think it’s mostly because of the way that she’s one of the few people who Lillian can’t manipulate.

While talking to Susan, Luciana gets the brilliant idea of cross referencing the vendors to the acid to people that they might know. On a more important note, Luciana tells Susan about the kiss that she shared with David. But Luci doesn’t know what she feels for David or Miguel. Susan advises her to come clean with David. It’s the only way of finding out how she feels. And so, Luciana pens a letter that is reminiscent of the ones that you read in grade school or junior high.

Lillian finds Graciela toasting in the courtyard. She embraces her and tells her that shes so happy to hear that she’s back. Graciela smiles at Mommy Dearest and hugs her. She whispers in her ear, “You are such a hypocrite” and Lillian counters with “you don’t know what’s waiting for you”. They both pull away from the hug continuing their little facade for David’s sake. This was by far my favorite scene.

What did you guys think about the episode? Who else is excited that Graciela is back?

Great recap Sonia and thank you.

"Dammmnn, Bobby. Good one!"

I knew Graciela would return and had the funds to help so why was I taken by surprise she was behind the reserve wine purchase? Gawd I'm stupid but happy stupid.

Agree Sonia the scene with Graciela and Lilian was best. Love it Lilian cannot manipulate her so why does she think Graciela needs her or Juan?

Marta is horrible and don't understand why Luciana even bothers. Marta had a funny manipulative look after her conversation with Lucina, will she try to kill the relationship before it grows?

Carito seemed to relax a bit and enjoy herself with Leon.

So, wonder if we get to see the nasty coyote again with Carito's cousin hiding in Tijuana.

Luciana's schoolgirl crush letter is a reminder the girl never had a bf and how unsettling this all must be trying to sort it out. David on the other hand I think is already a gonner.

Weird for me is Susan acts more and more like a teen except for her work.

Fantastic recap Sonia!

"David looks on as Luciana and Bobby bond. This man is falling hard", "Juan and his luscious lips look sad" and "And again just like that, Graciela swaggers into the room and back into David’s life" were a few of many favorites.

I can’t make up my mind about how Marta really feels about Gutierrez. I’d say it’s a bit like having your cake and eating it too. Having the cake is her putting their date right in front of Lili’s sour countenance. But he IS easy on the eyes. Marta is not only having her senses delighted by the rich, tempting frosting but her going on the town with him is getting to savor and experience the actual taste.

Leon is a sad sack. “Sure, he spent all his money, but to him it was totally worth it” (ummm, really??)… “Marta…doesn’t think it’s right for Leon to date a woman who treats his sister badly”. Amen. “Leon looks conflicted” – ummm really?? Heavy sighing on my part.

Miguel tells her, “Your heart is here with me”. Is it just me, but I think the heart knows what it wants without much prompting? Luci is smitten with David but to be fair to her, this is probably her first real romance. She understandably wants to hold back for many reasons. I hope she realizes that Miguel is and will always be in the “friend zone” and tells him soon.

I'm with you Sonia. Graciela is a force to be reckoned with - no fear whatsoever. While Luci can stand up to her peers and even the monstrous Lili, Graciela might be a far more formidable opponent. Graciela will soon be poisoning Fernanda's ears with more vitrol.

tofie, I never saw Graciela as the buyer either. Like you, I'm scratching my head at Susan. Her interpersonal relationships don't mirror her work persona at all.

Thanks Sonia!

Diana

Gracias, Sonia. Your enthusiasm gave me a night off and your recap is excellent.

Graciela will cause all sorts of problems with Lillian as well, which is what I'm looking forward to. She will figure out what Lillian is up to and Lillian will shake in her shoes at the prospect that Graciela will rat her out. Juan is interested in Graciela and will probably pursue her and she will exploit that in some way until it no longer suits her. Lisa knew that Graciela was after David and it won't take Luciana long to see this.

Leon is becoming pathetic. I would like him to see Carito for what she really is. I'd say he has less relationship experience than his sister does.

No matter what happens I don't want to see Carito rewarded by getting Miguel when he realizes that Luciana isn't going to love him as he wants her to. Carito doesn't deserve him or any other man on this property.

Neither does Perla. Juan will use her up and toss her aside. Don't forget that near choke-hold he had on her face in this episode.

Tofie, thanks for the reminder that we might encounter that same coyote again. He was serious bad news and he might get ideas about selling Carito if he sees her. For which we should thank him.

Gracias, Sonia! Yes, I'm glad Graciela is back, too. I think she'll improve the quality of the vitchery that we have to endure. She won't rely on cheap shots and bitter threats like Lillian does. Now we can see some high-quality manipulation.

On Gutierrez: "He’s also never connected with his Mexican roots but for Marta he will." Hmm... any chance she can turn him around? He seems irredeemable, but it would be a nice twist for him to fall for Marta for real, and have a change of heart. (Although, this would have to happen before Luciana tells Marta who he is, unless Marta's already figured that out and is doing this for more reason than just to annoy Lili.)

Regarding Carito, yes Leon and Miguel are both too good for her, but in her defense I'll say I don't think she's evil like Perla. Carito strikes me as an impressionable dimwit who is under the influence of a rotten friend. If she were under the influence of a sweet friend, she'd probably be as nice as pie.

Thanks, Sonia. David’s "falling" and Juan’s "luscious" were my favorite lines too.

Julie, I agree with you about both Gutierrez and Carito. Gutierrez is willing to try Marta’s authentic Mexican tacos, so there’s hope for him. Marta and Gutierrez looked so cute sitting in that gigantic chair. Can't figure out Marta's choice of dress for her date though. It reminded me of Heidi.

I’m thinking Marta did have a thing with her old patrón but he married Lillian due to social class. Lillian’s kids are older than Marta’s kids, so I’m guessing only later did Marta hook up with Luciana’s dad.

Graciela being the buyer shocked me too. Didn’t expect her to get a financial stake in David’s business. Now he’ll have to put up with her. I too loved the way she handled Lillian.

Pretty good episode last night. Hope they keep it up.

I thought Marta's choice of dress for her date said something like "If you think it might happen this year or next, forget it big boy." IE: Gramma's birth control, holding an Aspirin between your knees.

I didn't actually see this, so I didn't get to see Marta's hot date dress. Now I'm sad.

Ok, just have to say this before i read the recap or even finish watching this episode; WTH with that dress Marta wore? All it was missing were braids and bobby socks. How old are you?

Julie, Marta reminded me of Lily Tomlin's character where she portrayed a kid, sitting in the "big chair" swinging her legs... She looked like a milk maid.

Diana

Thanks so much, Sonia! I was only watching this with one eye while doing other things, and missed a lot, so I really appreciate it.

I did see Graciela's surprise return, and think that was rather clever of her. Now, David CAN'T get rid of her. Does anyone else think she looks like a vampire, with that too pale skin (makeup), hair the same color, and bright red lipstick?

Not sure why Luci is telling Miguel that she's confused. She knows she doesn't feel butterflies for him like she does for David. Even if she and David don't work out for the many valid reasons out there (age difference, family drama), if should be clear to her that poor Miguel is firmly in the friend zone.

Thank you, SOnia, for the recap.

Well, The vicked vitch of the vineyard, junior version is back. Watching mother and daughter together makes me feel itchy. Ugh..those two.

I noticed that LUci is back in uniform....jeans and a tight blouse. So far, we have seen her in the same, fitted blouse....aqua, purple, and last night's cobalt blue. The wardrobe department certain!y knows which colors look good on her and compliment her blue eyes. Here comes blonde porcelain doll faced GRacie to rock the boat on the budding live between MAy and December. Such a pretty container for the stone cold heart of a remorseless killer.

Lisa was on to her sister's desire for David. Now, is our galan going to be at Gracie's mercy without his wife present to block Gracie's bold advances???...please...no. I hate dim galans who let the evil girls smarm all over them. No..just no.

Looked to me Luciana also put on a little makeup. Before she was all natural so maybe she did to look grown up for David

Sonia--Very enjoyable recap. I too, enjoyed the "falling hard" and "luscious lips," but I also loved "So are you.” Dammmnn, Bobby. Good one!"

No, Fernanda didn't seem like she was having a very good time with her friends. The boy was pretty cute, too. She was probably sorry she hadn't gone with David, just to ruin his afternoon.

I was surprised by Fernanda's entrance as Miss Moneybags. I didn't know painting pictures paid that well. Also, it just confirms my opinion that she is an alcoholic. She probably plans to drink all that wine.

Niece--Thanks for mentioning Marta's dress. I didn't know in what context to be able to mention it, but it looked too young for her and of the late 1950's high school (which I probably was wearing at the time) fashion. In flat black shoes, it just didn't look right. You nailed it--Heidi.

Julie--It was sky blue, long-sleeved, cinched waist, shirt-dress with soft pleats so it was full around the hem. All she needed was 3 crinolines under it and voila--a bobby-soxer.

Thank you Sonia, and thank you Anita for Friday's recap. I've missed the past few days of this with things going on. Should make it fun to recap tonight! These recaps will help me get up to speed!

Interesting twist, having Gracie be part of the buyers.

P.S. Of course I meant Graciela's entrance. And what was it that she was wearing anyway? She goes from a man's shirt to paint in--and giving us the impression she was wearing nothing underneath, to this, whatever it was with see-through parts running up and down. Her red lipstick doesn't make her look sophisticated or sexy. It just makes me want to wipe most of it off, it's so thick.

Thanks, everyone, for describing the dress. *shiver* Urban likes to talk about crimes of fashion... this show hasn't been bad at all, but Marta's hot date dress might compete with Ana Laura's engagement party dress on TVA for the "trying not to be sexy" award.

Oh and Anita: "it just confirms my opinion that she is an alcoholic. She probably plans to drink all that wine." Good point. She's not a wine distributor! Unless she was planning to serve this wine at her exhibits. And it sounds like Graciela's outfit was another type of crime of fashion too.

Julie--Marta's dress was just a dress. She looked more like she was going grocery shopping in the city. She wore no jewelry, no scarves. I don't even think she had earrings on; most of her hair was down her back. Maybe Officer Gutierrez goes for the simple.

Julie and ANita...I think that GRacie will mostly be distributing that vino to her own glass.

The "date " dress seemed a tad youthful for Marta. It definitely looked a bit like a little girl's dress.

My name is Edith Ann and I'm five years old...

Yeah, that's the Lily Tomlin character, alright.

That dress definitely is a fashion felony and I will have to search out a photo. Some would also say the length of Marta's hair is inappropriate for a woman her age; thus far I'm only sure that it's impractical for her to wear it that way at work.

We know what Graciela wants and we know that Lillian doesn't care about her. It's ironic that she favored the daughter who wasn't anything like her. So we will have three generations of vitches from here on and I hope that there is at least some variety in their actions. I'm sick of the Mean Girl crap.

There is something odd about the reference to Lillian's husband. Just when were Marta and Marcos married? I, for one, can't see anything having happened between her and Fernando and think that Lillian is inventing something. Or are these writers backpedaling? I really hate that.

...and that's the truth. [razzing]

Thank you Sonia, great job, especially having never done a recap before, we would never have known.

I don't understand what Lilian would get out of the selling of the vineyard? Surely she isn't in line to inherit anything or is she an investor?

So Carita has a great time with León, but will still pine for Miguel. I've actually seen this in real life, so it doesn't surprise me.

Yes, the coyote was the same guy who was out to get Mario and Luciana when they wanted to sneak back into the country, so we know he's a very bad and dangerous man.

Cathyx, Lilian and Juan are scheming with the evil olive oil guy to get a special financial bonus from him (off the record) if they can convince David to sell. And the reason Lillian is getting a piece of this is because she's been blackmailing Juan all this time for embezzling from David.

Urban, it seems way too early in the story for the writers to need to backpedal. I think they're just being mischievous and injecting some doubt about Marta's character. Whatever went on between Marta and Fernando, if anything, I'll bet it was innocuous and if anything bad ever came of it, it was entire Lillian's fault.

(I remember Edith Ann!)

Great job Sonia! I tuned in a little late last night because I drove to Sacramento yesterday so I saw most of it. I saw Aunt Gracie's dress and boy all that see through material. Doesn't anyone there think she dresses like a slut? She seems to have come into a lot of money. Not sure how she as an artist had enough money to buy the reserve. We didn't seem to get any information about how she is a rich and famous artist now.

Thank you, Sonia! Excellent episode! Enjoyable read! Nope. Didn't see Gracie coming and while I also like that she's not afraid of Lillian and can't be manipulated by her, I have a special loathing for her for lusting after her own sister's husband and that she murdered her seals my contempt. Her cool, calm, and collected calculating on how to get under David. . .'s skin (did you notice those downward sweeping glances she was washing over him?) is in sharp contrast to Luci's precious little letter, flushed cheeks and sparkling eyes when she thinks about him. I'm with Susanlynn, puh-lease don't let Grace get her cold-hearted hands and lips on David, pleeeease!

Let's see, Luci is around 22 or so, (high school plus college degree) and Marco was her bio Dad so M&M were married over 22 or so years ago or more.

Lillian has high school grand children (Fer) so she and Hub-a-dud should have been married 10 to 20 years before M&M.

So before M&M, Mar could have been single and fooling with Lil's hubby. As an aside, his search for ANYBODY BUT LIL, if it did indeed happen with Marta, is the most sane believable thing yet on this show.

toa

Urban “My name is Edith Ann and I'm five years old” and “that's the truth. [razzing]”...Thank you! I couldn't remember Lily Tomlin's character for the life of me! What a memory you have.

I appreciate it!

Diana

Hi everyone! This is my first time commenting, but I've been following (and loving!) the recaps and the comments for several novelas now. Vino is the first one I am watching as it airs, so I figured it was about time I pitched in!

I agree with the Marta analysis so far (and yeah, what was that dress?!), and I think she's shrouded in mystery: Lilian's husband, staying separated from her husband and daughter (i'm not really buying the "I had to pay for your college" excuse), putting up with so much abuse instead of leaving, and now dating Gutierrez. I thought that comment she made to Ramon (about having to do things because you have to and not because you want to) was super suggestive. I think she knows who Gutierrez is and is playing him in order to get revenge for what he did. That's why she is telling Ramon this in the hope that one day, when he is probably mad at her for ditching him all the time or something, he'll remember she told him this was something she just had to do. Just a thought...

Welcome Ana!

Very perceptive comments. You and others have voiced suspicions that Marta knows full well who Gutierrez is. I'm not convinced but I've been wrong about so much, I likely am here as well.

I can't make up my mind about Marta because I just don't know who she is. Not sure if what we see is real or if there are multi layers that need to be revealed.

Diana

UA,Sonia, good recap. Im not glad shes back.
Reason being: theres going to be a lot of pretending on lucy's part because marta told her to stick with her on kind. Thats very annoying. I don't like the insinuation of thinking that you have to stay with somebody that's in your same class and don't cross the line, that's bordering on something ugly to me. Like saying you're not good enough for him, cuz Hes wealthy and you work for him. I hate that. But I suppose they were raised to think That way. Some even in this country. That Stinks in any country. Thank God some choose to rise above that way of thinking. Lucy will, as
She fights for her love for david. And a bloody fight it will be. Cuz the murderer Is back. And that little airhead fernanda, her tia
Is going to use her to come between lucy & david. That wont be a hard thing for her to do since evil granny has already started the
"I hate luciana, get rid of her, so she wont try to take your mothers place in davids heart" club.
What a happy family reunion its already turning out to be. The bitch fight begins between mother and her evil spawn.(Lillian &
Graciboo).
What can I say about sonia.......I don't know, shes a character.

Thanks Sonia, UA. Good recap Sonia you're good at this.
