Vino el Amor #18, November 22, 2016: Vino El Party Poopers

Repeated scenes:
  • Juan & Perla continue to slime with each other.
  • Tano asks Susan to hang out later at a surprise dance party he is working up for her.
  • Lucia is lost in thought, reading  a letter she has written to explain to David that she's confused.
  • Gracie and David discuss their new partnership and Liliana and Gracie "greet" each other.
This episode (some scenes combined):
  • Susan makes some phone calls to the place that sold the evil acid that infected the vineyard crop, to try and learn who the buyer was. The evil acid place stonewalls her, citing confidentiality of its clients.
  • Fer is so happy to see Gracie is home. Bobby and Liliana? Not so much. Gracie says she is staying in a hotel, but David insists that she stay at his house, saying our home is your home. Gracie is pleased. Liliana is most certainly not.
  • Tano asks Miguel to help him with the dance party he is whipping up. He encourages Miguel to bring Luciana to the party. Miguel says he will help with the party.
  • Gracie entertains the family (especially Bobby) with tales of befriending soccer star Cristiano (Ronaldo?) in Europe at a restaurant. Gracie senses the chance to win over Bobby and tells him she will get Cristiano to autograph a ball. Bobby runs over and hugs his aunt.
  • Susan and Miguel suspect Juan of being the evil acid buyer. Now they just need proof.
  • Gracie asks David for a tour of the vineyard. And off they go! Liliana is not happy.
  • David goes to check on the cava and leaves Gracie alone for a few seconds. Juan walks in on her and starts to threaten her that he knows her secret (she killed Lisa). She reminds him that she knows his and Liliana's secret too (they robbed the vineyard). It's a standoff. David interrupts and Juan covers and excuses himself.
  • Next up on the vineyard tour: An awkward encounter with Luciana and her letter!  Or the famous Luciana as Gracie refers to her. Luciana introduces herself as "supervisor of the pisca." (Not sure what that is.) Gracie knows what it is though and lets Luciana know that she will be working with Gracie, now that she's in a partnership with David. She also lets Luciana know that David and she have always been close. Luciana gets in a dig about how she is also invested in David and his vineyard and how she is trying to help solve things that money can't solve. Gracie asks what the paper in Luciana's hand is and she tells her it's "work-related." Gracie wants to see it.
  • Sonia has prepared Gracie's room and asks if Liliana needs anything else special for Miss Grace. Oh she does. She wants Sonia to shadow Gracie and report everything she does and says to Liliana.
  • Luciana casually rips up her letter when David asks to see it too. She plays it off as just a little suggestion to improve production that's obviously not needed now that Gracie is here.
  • Stupid Perla busts into Juan's office to ask him about Gracie. Does he like her? He tells her to bug off basically and do her secretarial job properly.
  • Luciana sits on the porch stewing about David. Marta notices she is upset and Luciana confides in her about her general boy troubles without naming names. Marta tries to comfort her. Like me, Marta is Team Miguel.
  • Gracie notes to David that Luciana seems to be a special favorite. David says she is special and mentions that her father was Marcos.
  • As the tour continues, Gracie and David stop to overlook the land.  It really is pretty. David is reminded of Lisa. Liliana spies on this scene.
  • Susan is working. Luciana, who honestly never seems to be actually working, interrupts Susan. She mentions the letter and the encounter with Gracie and Susan immediately comments that Luciana is jealous of Gracie. Susan is a really good friend, listens to her, and counsels her to discuss her confused feelings privately with David.
  • Marta and the children are outside and Gracie joins them. Marta offers her a beverage, but all Gracie wants is Aunt time with the kids. She kind of makes Marta feel left out at the same time she invites her to join them. Marta leaves Gracie to play doting aunt.
  • Liliana approaches Gracie and tells her it's time to tell her the truth. Why did Gracie bail out David? Gracie replies that she couldn't let her family lose everything. Liliana replies that the family did need her back. Gracie asks her why she is pretending and why she didn't keep in touch. Liliana says that she feared rejection. Liliana then goes on to suggest that it would have been better for Gracie to have checked out the situation before she bought out the vineyard, as there was a pending sale to EEVOOG. Gracie asks how that would have helped. Liliana says she could have offered moral support, and Gracie replies, oh like you give me. She promises to secure David once and for all, and excuses herself. (I had trouble understanding this conversation so please correct if needed.)
  • David finds Luciana sitting up high amongst the wine vats (not working as usual). He knows she wants to talk. She just says that she had thought one thing, but now she's met his new partner, and realizes he needs nothing from her. David is confused and asks if he has done something to upset her. She says no and says to let her know if he or his new partner need anything from her. She gets up and walks away.
  • Tano and Leon are setting up the big surprise dance party for Susan. Carito walks in on this, and Leon says it was supposed to be a surprise for all the ladies. Leon invites her, Sue will be Tano's date and Miguel will invite Luciana! Carito is just so thrilled at that news (not), but covers and helps them set up.
  • Susan is surprised by her party and Tano promises her "the most fun night of her life!" The dancing commences!
  • Meanwhile, Fer is telling Gracie about her crush on Tano. Gracie is kind of appalled when she realizes Tano is one of the workers and tells Fer to seek a boyfriend who is "someone like you" - i.e., not a vineyard worker. Fer doesn't care about that.
  • Perla gets all snobby and declines Leon's invitation to join the party. Miguel asks Luciana to dance. It takes a little convincing, but soon they are dancing.
  • Gracie tells Fer that she met Luciana and she would like to join the official I Hate Luciana Soooooooo Much Club! Fer is thrilled her aunt agrees with her dislike for Luciana, because her dad is way too into her. Gracie tells Fer she will work on stopping that, and gives tons of evil life advice - "Stay closer to your enemies." "Sometimes you have to do unpleasant things to get what you want." "Always be one step ahead on others to gain control."
  • Miguel tells Luciana he wants to help her smile again and cheer her up tonight. Susan and Tano flirt up a storm. Everyone dances. Ramon is ready to party! Perla wants them to turn it down. Ramon tells Perla to shut up and dance!
  • Liliana interrupts the Gracie/Fer counseling session to tell Fer to go to bed. Liliana tells Gracie to tell her if there's anything she wants.
  • As my notes put it, Wine and Girl Talk Time with David and Cesar. David is happy that Gracie bailed him out financially, but he's soooooo confused! Like he and Luciana kissed for real! Cesar says he should talk it out with Luciana. Like he tried and everything!!!!
  • Dance Party: Party-pooper #1 Perla has succumbed to dancing. Marta doesn't want to dance, but Ramon gets her moving. Here comes party-pooper #3 - Sonia! She's going to write them all up! Tano saves the day and the party by using his hotness to pull Sonia into a dance.
  • Wine/Girl Talk Time: Cesar says ZOMG David, like if you kissed her, you can, like, talk to her! Gracie comes in and flirts like mad with Cesar. Hands all over him! Girls, you know? He is like YAASSSSS, let's have dinner. Unfortunately, Cesar has no game and is a little bit nerdy in this exchange. Gracie flirts her way back out of the room. Then she stops outside and rolls her eyes as Cesar and David discuss how Cesar should go for it with Gracie since Susan is not into him.
  • Dance Party continues:
  • Gracie visits Juan in his office. She asks for his help in getting David and reminds him that she knows about his pillaging of the coffers and his plans to sell to EVOOG. Since they know each others' secrets, they should be able to help each other! She does this awesome snapping of his staple remover to illustrate her points and asks if they have a deal.
  • Ooh slow dancing! Sonia is feeling it!
  • Miguel is going for it with Luciana as they slow dance. He tells her she's beautiful and that while she may be confused, he's not. He's more sure than ever that he loves her. Awww. Go Team Miguel!!!
  • David comes up on the slow dancing scene and is Not. Amused. He barks out, "Luciana!" The party literally comes to a halt like a scratch on a record player and Leon cuts the music. Drunken Sonia stumbles to her boss and says, "they made me do it." He is Not. Amused. and continues staring at the actual person he is not amused with - Luciana!
To be continued tonight! By the way, there was some confusion on my Twitter timeline last night so I looked it up. VeA is on tonight and Friday night (I'll be recapping that; switched with Anita who will do next Tuesday's show). It will not air this Thursday night.

Thank You so much dy77. You know I just DO. NOT. GET. the David/Lucid age difference everyone talks about. He is, What? 13 and she is 12. They are about right for each other.

Ha ha anonymous at 10:17am - honestly freshly falling in love will cause anyone to regress a little, but yup!

This was a fun episode to recap, especially once the party got underway. I always enjoy a good soap opera party episode.

Susan is easily my favorite character on this show. She actually does her job, she's fresh and flirty, and she's a good friend with good advice.

Also, while Gracie is awful, she's perked this show up with her evil ways and her takeover of the family.

Gracia, dy77. Good stuff.

Sonia was clearly at her most pathetic in this episode. Does she think she's running a borstal? She certainly behaves she does. Unfortunately since David is going to be distracted by Luciana dancing with Miguel he won't be getting on her case tonight for trying to stop something that was none of her business. She needs to lose her job, but at least she will be thoroughly humiliated tonight when she realizes that she got wasted and "danced" even worse than Elaine on Seinfeld.

Off-camera Gabriel Soto is 40 and I think Irina Baeva is about 24. I David is meant to be younger than 40 they should have given him a little Botox and a younger look (like losing the beard, although it is attractive on him). However, he is still in fine shape.

The biggest age difference I can recall in a protagonist couple was the 18 years between Jorge Salinas and Ana Brenda Contreras in LQNPA. I had no problem with that because their relationship was like Maxim de Winter and his second wife in Rebecca.

dy77- This recap was a hoot! You finally got a fun episode to recap.

Veronica J. (Sonia) is such a funny/quirky actress, and this role really hasn't allowed her to tap into that until this episode.

Urban- I think our galan and heroine are playing their true chronological ages, but Anon 10:17 got their mental ages right. How is David going to cover/excuse yelling out Luci's name like that and staring daggers at her and Miguel? He's not her daddy, and he's not her boyfriend, as far as anyone else knows. So, WTF?

I also think David will be shocked at his own behavior in that situation. He needs to get a grip or Lillian will try to think of a way to have him declared mentally incompetent to manage his own..... finances.

More later. Need to go to the supermarket. My cats need their dry food.

dy, this was crisp, clear and refreshing. I so enjoy your recaps! The screen shots were wonderful and really added to your fun summary.

"Wine and Girl Talk Time with David and Cesar" had me grinning ear to ear...

Regarding Juan's vs. Graciela's secrets...Doesn't murder trump stealing?? While David would not take kindly to being swindled, knowing Gracie killed her sister, HIS WIFE would be catastrophic. I would think Juan had the winning hand here, but Gracie obviously thinks otherwise and his backing down was a bit of a surprise.

Because I am such a fan of Veronica, I enjoyed Sonia's scenes tremendously. She didn't need much encouragement did she? It was fun to see her cut loose in her own, incredibly nerdy yet haughty way. I am hopeful there might be a change of attitude and heart for her down the road. UA, was she actually dancing?? I thought she was just swigging down shots and moving awkwardly. If her dancing was worse than Elaine's, I am truly sorry I missed it.

I see no issue with the David/Luci age difference. At all. He has good intentions and although his jealousy seeing Luci with Miguel was a red flag, think they have chemistry. Luci was obviously put off by Graciela. While I don't think it was necessarily jealousy, she felt left out as she thought she had a special place carved out in David's business plan (and elsewhere). She and David both love the land and I feel they are a good match. Miguel is a nice guy but destined to be just a friend...

None of the dancing couples were actually couples. There was some wishful thinking and wistfulness, but that was it.

dy, thank you!

Diana

Vivi, our comments crossed.

We were on the same wavelength. "Veronica J. (Sonia) is such a funny/quirky actress, and this role really hasn't allowed her to tap into that until this episode".

Exactly! I hope she has more scenes to make her shine.

Diana

Thank you dy. Nuther great one

"Luciana, who honestly never seems to be actually working"

Two things turn me off, begging and barking. Miguel practically begging Luciana thinking he knows whats best for her and David barking to mold her into what's best for him.

I see Sonia I see PeeWee Herman.

Poor Cesar has no game but at least he's an adult.

Susan works, she's smart, she's offering good advise to Luciana and she handled turning Cesar down tactfully, they do not belong together. I just cannot understand this Carlos thing.

They definitely need a party planner.

Thanks, dy77! I love how you let the picture do the talking for Sonia at the party!!

(Yes, Diana, she was dancing. Your confusion is understandable, though.)

Anon: "You know I just DO. NOT. GET. the David/Lucid age difference everyone talks about. He is, What? 13 and she is 12. They are about right for each other." You are right. They both have some serious maturity issues. Actually, he's the one with the maturity issues; she's just inexperienced. But it still works out okay because neither of them seems to know what they're doing.

I was noticing last night that the winery is a perfect place for someone to have a fatal (or at least very serious) fall.

And I agree about the actress who plays Sonia. I don't think I've seen her in anything before, but she's a scene-stealer and the character is one of the few reasons I still watch the show. She's hilariously drunk with power (when not just plain drunk).

"I see Sonia I see PeeWee Herman" and "She's hilariously drunk with power (when not just plain drunk)" made me laugh out loud.

Thanks tofie and Julie...

Diana (finding it hard to get through this workday with so much to do at home. Ack.)

Perhaps is Sonia pursued David in the way Veronica's character Ximena stalked and pursued her crush in Un Gancho al Corazon, she'd have better luck. She'd certainly have more fun. :)

Thanks, dy77. I was unable to watch last night, but I am watching the episode right now. I am looking forward to the dance.

I have seen about ten minutes of the show , and I really do not like Gracie's hands all over our galan. Geez..do these guys not realize when they are being pawed over by a vitchy vitch? Dave just smiles blankly and let's His sister inlaw get all handsy with him. Dumbbunny.

Julie,Our amigo Carlos is a big fan of the actress playing Sonia.

Is it just me, or does the actor playing JUan have a limited number of facial expressions...like Juan..I mean one.

Susanlynn, I haven't been noticing Juan's facial expressions because I'm fascinated by his body language/posture. He seems to think he's a rooster, or maybe a peacock. I can almost see the tail feathers.

Ugh ! That Gracie, the murdering little Ho. With that blonde hair, see through clothing, alabaster skin and those pornographic red lips. If someone will pour a bottle or two of that wine down her I will take one for the team and lick all that paint off her.

:-) toa

Julie...hmmm...I have not noticed the rooster quality, but I am fascinated that this guy never smiles and only has one expression...which shows all the feels.. A to...well..just A.

The girl talk sessions between Dave and his bff Cesar are something out of middle school gym class..or health class, maybe. Gracie is a man-eater who flirts with any male. HEr dress is..interesting. is it denim with sheer panels?

Wow..DANCE PAR TAY !! Miguel can really kick up his heels in those work boots. Susan sure seemed thrilled with ber surprise dance party, and she sure seemed to be full out flirting with TAno. I think that his haircut makes him look young and green.Remembering our teen school dances, we realize that dancing wuas just an excuse for guys to legally get their hands on girls .

When I record an episode, I am always amazed at how many commercials are in these telenovelas.

SEnding out a dedication "Dance with ME " and thinking of our dear caraycaray recapper Madeline.

Thanks, dy77! Gosh, who knew bullet points could be such fun! The pictures really rounded it out and covered the action! Uuuuf! David, tell Gracie to keep her hands to herself! Looks like we're going to do the clueless galan thing: So David was confused as to why Luciana wouldn't share her letter with him and why she was upset? As predicted, Luci sees clearly that Gracie's got the hots for him and David KNOWS Gracie does and always has. . .c'mon Dave, Jeeesh!

Cant wait to see how David's going to follow up the barking of Luci's name: he really put himself on front street!

Thanks again, DY!

Gracie is wearing blue harem pants, no panties, matching blue bra under the sheerest most adorable floor length mullet dress. Very artsy and So Cal.

If you have already wacked your own sister and left her kids forever without a Mother there is hardly any point in trying to look chaste.

Thank you DY 77! That was excellent and so enjoyed about Sonia. She is becoming my new favorite character because she's kind of annoying, but only annoying in a humorous way. I think all of us have met someone in our past that is a little bit like her. I used to have a supervisor at work who was kind of like her. She thinks she is going by a check off list and straight by the book.

I was watching the show with my daughter and son in law, when he says, "Those are the cleanest looking vineyard workers I have ever seen. I don't think they are really working." :)

dy--thank you, late, but a constant watcher and reader. Thank goodness you have one day "off" before hitting the DVR on Friday. Thanks for switching.

Loved all the comments about Sonia. She still annoys me, but it's been fun to read the descriptions of her antics. They are all so over the wall of convention. More vino power to her. I'll try to like her a little more now.

How will Miguel, Marta and Luciana react to David's interrupting their party to call her out in such a commanding manner. Can't wait to see.

Thanks, dy. Great job. Your commentary made me realize we've never actually seen Luciana doing her job. I still don't know what it is.

David sure doesn't have Juan's skills in keeping a secret sweetie under wraps. Juan and Perla have been at it forever, and nobody knows. I have warmed to Luciana with David, but I cringe when she calls him patrón in front of everyone. If you're kissing me, I'm not calling you patrón. Well, maybe in roleplay. :>

ITA about Sonia. She was a delight. If she finds redemption, maybe she'd be good for Ramón.

'Is it just me, or does the actor playing JUan have a limited number of facial expressions...like Juan..I mean one.'

I have been noticing this too. He didn't have the same limited expressions in Tierra De Reyes, maybe he just isn't suited to be the bad guy. He seems to be 'looking angry' in every scene. Maybe they will do more with the character as the show continues. I realize he's probably just the nonredeemable bad guy headed for jail or death but maybe he can smile or something first, lol.

Bad as they are, I feel a little compassion for Juan and for Perla, simply because they are too people entirely left to their own devices with no one actually caring about them. Especially Perla - she supposedly grew up with her grandma but we haven't seen this gma once. She grew up on that vineyard obsessed with Juan from the time she was what, like 10? With no one to stop her or correct her, no friends, no supervision......yes, she's a brat but she had to figure it out for herself and she got it wrong, someone should have been helping that girl out. Taking her far away from the handsome no good lawyer and giving her some guidance and affection. I really hope she can somehow be redeemed, although I doubt it. I did notice and I thought it was kind of oddly ironic that back when she was a little girl the only times anyone tried to say something to her, it was Juan, and he wasn't nice about it, but still he did tell her she shouldn't be in his office.

As for Juan, yes, he has been robbing his 'bestfriend' blind for who knows how many years, but I can't help but think, does he really have a bestfriend? I mean despite his own actions. David pays like no attention to his 'bestfriend' and what he is doing. Like comments have said since the beginning no one pays attention or notices anything Juan does. You better believe if my bestfriend took up embezzlement as a hobby I would notice it. I would also notice that she was having an affair in her office if we worked in the same building. And Lisa's death doesn't account for it either because this little vilian was being ignored long before Lisa's death. Not that it excuses being a criminal or anything, lol; but I just wonder would he be doing it if someone, like say his 'bestfriend' was actually paying attention and there to smack him upside the head and ask him wth he is thinking?

It's kind of the same with Carito, absentee cousin, bad friend, no affection from anyone else.

As for Gracie's garish makeup, I can only think they are trying to make the actress look older? It isn't attractive, at all; but the actress is Luci and Miguel's age and that of course doesn't work for the character who was that age when the others were kids.

What Graciela did was brilliant. She's in a perfect position to slowly come on to David who wont be able to easily blow her off because he is now indebted to her. I also like that the writers have created a villanes who has her own money and really wants the galan just because she actually wants him. and not for his dinero.

I can't wait for Fer to pick up the fact that her tia adorada is also after her dad. I hope it happens sooner than later because Graciela's advice will turn Fer into an even bigger brat!

Thank you everyone!
