Vino el Amor 11/28/16 Chapter 21: Bad Girls Just Want to Have Fun

Lillian announced the theft of Lisa's earrings and that all employees' possessions would be searched. As she did so she and the younger vitches all stared at Luciana while Marta and Susan looked around in disbelief.
Graciela was congratulating Fernanda, who wasn't entirely alright with this. She got up to go to tell her father the truth. Graciela stopped her before she could leave the room. Fernanda was concerned at how this would hurt Marta, whom she loved. [Does this girl have redeeming qualities after all? ¡Que sorpresa!] Graciela said “Sometimes we have to do things that aren't so good. When you have an objective everything is worth it. What we want is for Luciana to get out of here. Yes or no?.”

Well, yes, but...”

Sonia started issuing orders for the employees to present coats, purses, bags, and everything else to be searched. Even access to rooms and “If necessary, the entire vineyard.”
No, Sonia. I won't permit anything like this,” said Luciana.
Oh, you're worried about what we'll find, eh?” said Lillian.
What worries me is your lack of trust in us,” she said. “And the lack of respect by this action.”
Oh, so you're afraid because you have something to hide?”
Of course not. What bothers me is the way you are treating us. We are not thieves.”
It has to be one of you!” Lillian continued.
I'd put my hand in the fire for anyone here,” Luciana said.
Are you sure? You're going to get burned.”
I'm sure that nobody here would do anything like that. You don't know these people well and they could say the same about you. How odd, isn't it? You just get here and something like this happens.”
The nasty young vitches were gloating behind Luciana's back.

Graciela knocked before entering David's room where he was looking at a photo of Lisa. Her fleshs and fingernails looked as though they had ceded all the pigmentation to her overly red lips. She mentioned what was going on and David was ill at ease. He trusted his employees. Graciela sat on the bed and started caressing his face, saying she was there for him. “I'm family and the only people you can trust are your family,” she said. He quickly rose, saying he had something important to do, put down the photo, and walked out.

Sonia had been going through the various items on the table and thus far had found nothing. Ramón objected to this as abuse, then did Luciana. She picked up her own bag as Sonia was about to open it. Marta told her not to interfere, but Luciana repeated that just as their boss wouldn't want anyone in his things this was equally disrespectful and she would not submit to this.
Just as David entered.
Why aren't you allowing the search, Luciana?” he said.

The shouting must have been very loud because it was heard in the main house. Bobby went into Fernanda's room to see if she knew anything about it.
It's a problem with Luciana, and very ugly.”
That's not true! She's good!”
No. She stole our mother's earrings.”
That's not true. You're a liar. You're saying this because you hate Luciana. She isn't like that. She is good!”
Fernanda did not know what to say to her little brother.

Why aren't you allowing the search, Luciana?”
Because I don't agree with what's being done here. It's unfair. Aren't you a good boss?” She turned to the others, then back to David. “Haven't you all worked here for years? How could it occur to you think anyone here could do anything so bad?”
If you're so angry it's because surely you have something to hide,” said Lillian.
I have nothing to hide. What's more, keep looking if you want to. And you'll be sorry you did this.”
Sonia went through Luciana's backpack, pulled out the earring box, and did the big reveal. She must have thought she was Miss Marple. There were shocked expressions on the expected faces.
No. This is not true. Someone put them there.”
I don't believe this, Luciana,” said David.

Bobby, don't be a fool. She is deceiving all of us.”
No, no, no, no, no. This is not true!”
Bobby, you're too young to understand. Luciana is only here to get her claws into our dad.”
You're lying! She's my friend and she loves me more than you!”
Bobby, how can you say this? You're my brother and I will always love you.”
Oh, yeah? When I told you they were bullying me in school you said it was not your problem.”
Because I'm in high school and you have to learn how to defend yourself.”
You're my older sister. You have to help or at least [hacer mi caso]. Play with me. Teach me how.”
I'm sorry, Bobby. I promise I'll do as I used to.”
That's not true. And I don't want Luciana or Marta to leave. They're the only ones who love me.”
He walked out and closed the door before Fernanda could stop him.

I can't believe that you think me capable of doing anything like this.”
I swear this I don't want to believe this. Explain why you ran out of the house in a hurry a little while ago?” Graciela sneaked in during this.
Because I was looking for my mother.”
In the bedrooms?” asked Sonia.
What was the big emergency with your mother, eh?” asked Lillian.
Because they told me she was with an immigration agent.”
Stop lying!” Lillian said. Perla gloated.

Juan was busy cooking the books in his office, erasing entries on speadsheets and destroying hard copies. He grinned to himself with satisfaction.

David insisted on speaking to Luciana in private. Susan and Marta both came to Luciana's defense. David insisted again and the others left the room. Sonia, looking much to fussy in her crime scene gloves and the two junior vitches smirking over their shoulders as they were the last to exit.
I didn't do anything. This is a set-up.”
You know how important Lisa's things are to me,” he said.
I repeat I didn't do anything. I don't know how they came to be in my things.”
I can't believe you'd do a thing like this.”
Well, don't worry. This isn't going to happen again. Because this is the last time you will see me.”

Bobby ran over wanting to see Luciana. Lillian told him to go back to his room. Marta also told him to go back. He refused. Marta asked Carlos to escort Bobby back home and he snapped to it. Carito and Perla began gloating. Ramón told Marta not to worry, that this would be resolved.
Well, I don't think so,” said Perla. “She doesn't conduct herself like us.”
She has no respect for the rules,” Carito said.
My daughter is no thief,” Marta said.
Well, everyone is accusing her,” Lillian said. “And I'll take charge of bringing the charges against her.”
Luciana is innocent and we will prove it,” said Marta.
You don't say. Your daughter is not only a traitor she's a thief.”
Marta tried to rush her but Ramón held her back. Graciela stepped in between, telling them to calm down.

I swear on all the affection I have for you I didn't steal those earrings.”
Then why did you have them? Explain it to me! Do you have any idea how much this deception hurts me?”
Well, if you are capable of thinking I'm a thief, you have deceived me far more.”
She left him in the room alone. Lillian came in and asked if he wanted her to call Gutiérrez. He siad that was not necessary and told her and Graciela to stop bothering him. He called the others inside. He apologized to the employees for this disagreeable incident.
Luciana was out on the porch crying. Bobby ran back to tell her he came to defend her. She urged him to go back home before anyone got angry with him. Miguel returned from grocery shopping and Bobby told him about this incident before Luciana could stop him. He was incensed that anyone could think this of her. Luciana tried to get Bobby to go home and to promise that he wouldn't annoy his father about this. Miguel was determined to risk his employment in her defense but Luciana wouldn't allow him to. They both escorted Bobby back to the house.
David returned home asking himself how Luciana could have done such a thing. Graciela entered his room without knocking pretending to commiserate with him. “Maybe she did it to annoy Fernanda because she can't accept submission. Fernanda told me she had told her how important those were to you.” She tried to change the subject but he told her to leave.
Fernanda texted Carlos she couldn't sleep; she needed to talk to him. He was also having trouble. Apparently they had also only seen each other for five minutes earlier that day. They agreed to talk the next day.
Luciana, Miguel, and Bobby entered the house just as David came back down the stairs. David told him it was late and he needed to go upstairs. Luciana kissed the boy and he went upstairs without complaint. Miguel made his position clear and David told him not to get involved with this. All the evidence was against Luciana. But Miguel insisted that he needed to investigate who was trying to frame her for the crime. He didn't stop until Luciana asked him to wait for her outside. When he left David asked “Why, Luciana?”
Ask yourself why I would break your heart.”
What do you know of my feelings?”
It doesn't matter,” she said. She left. Like the vulture, Sonia was waiting in the wings and thus she entered.
Señor David, I'm so sorry about what is happening. You don't deserve anyone that untrustworthy, but you're not alone. You have your children and ...others who are almost like family.” The breathy tone should have given away her intentions.
Thank you, Sonia,” he said without looking at her.
Well, I just wanted you to know.” She turned to leave.
Sonia, are you absolutely sure you saw her coming out of the bedroom?”
She stumbled for a second then said “I saw her coming down the stairs but isn't she in the habit of entering the house as though she were the lady of it? Haven't you been coming after me about it? That girl never follows the rules for anything. Señor David, excuse me.”
She left him alone. He looked confused.

Fernanda was mooning over the photos of Carlos on her cell phone. [Dream on, little brat.]

Luciana was tired of always being accused of things. She decided to leave and she told Miguel. He told Marta.

David went to Bobby's room. The boy was still concerned. They had a talk about it that caused David to look thoughtful.

Miguel's faith in Luciana is blind, as everyone would know, especially Marta. Neither believed that Luciana had done the crime but there was no way to prove it. Luciana herself came out of the employees' quarters with her bag and told them she was leaving.

Gabriela was singing this victory to Juan, telling him that he had to make sure Luciana could never return.

Miguel and Marta could not convince her to stay. She kissed her mother and hugged Miguel, telling him was a great fellow.

Fernanda's jealousy went up another notch the following morning when she saw Carlos and Susan kissing. She was angry that he couldn't meet with her the night before and not pleased at hearing that he was dating Susan. She was determined to end that by telling her father. [You're in high school, child and Carlos doesn't want to be arrested for statutory rape.]

Juan went to the employee quarters to pretend to sympathize with Luciana. She told him that David didn't dismiss her; she had quit. She wanted nothing from him either. She refused his offer to make a few calls to see if he could help her find another job. In fact, she found this about-face rather odd. He handed her a business card anyway just in case. [Could it be the olive grower? Hmmmm....] As she looked around the dining area Miguel arrived and told her he was going with her.

Cesar was with David, having heard about what happened. He didn't believe that Luciana had done it and was certain there was another explanation. It wouldn't make sense that a woman who had brought life back to him would betray him this way. Cesar urged him to think about it.

Luciana tried persuading Miguel to stay. He hadn't worked at anything else and had been sending money back to his mother in San Salvador. She wasn't going to let him make this sacrifice for her. She was going to Santa Barbara alone. León and Marta tried to stop her as well. When she would not change her mind they decided to leave with her.

Carito and Perla talked about Carito's cousin, whose problems were worse. [No details, but why does this matter?]

David and Cesar continued their conversation. Cesar was certain that Luciana deserved to be heard and that David was throwing away a chance at happiness. There had to be another explanation for what happened and David was acting impulsively. Neither knew that Graciela was just outside the study taking in every word.

Fernanda was with her two friends who were asking whether she wouldn't give Peter another chance. They realized she was interested in someone else but she would not reveal his identity. They were at one of the other girls' homes and her parents were on a trip. Therefore they hit the bottle and began getting wasted.

Graciela waited until Cesar began again about giving Luciana another chance and pounced by entering unannounced and flirting with him. She got him to agree to take a walk with her while pretending to apologize to David for taking him away from the conversation. Right after they left Marta, Miguel, and León arrived to give David their resignation. He was incredulous, but they stood on their loyalty to Luciana and their certainty that she was innocent of the theft.

Ramón tried to persuade Carlos to go to night school so he could advance himself.

This had to have been the first time, but Lillian went into town and undercover... with Gutiérrez, who had never expected this. She didn't want him to see Marta again. He asked her again why she hates her but she told him it was none of his business. He told her that such a demand also demanded that he know the reason. [As corrupt as he is, he's still hot.  He could do so much better than Lillian.] She still wouldn't tell him, saying “You'll never have anyone like me.” [She's probably right but not for the reason she thinks.] “So you'd better behave and do as you're told.”
Then you better not tell anyone that I deported Marta's family.”
Why not?”
Because the case could be reopened and it could get me in real trouble.”
Well, if you do everything I want you have my word your secret is safe with me.”
I can't risk my new promotion to Captain.”
Captain? Well, that depends on you, Captain.”

We will now leave this scene as taste, decorum, and the censor dictate. [At least we got a reward for watching the rest of this episode.]

Excellent UA and thank you

"Her fleshs and fingernails looked as though they had ceded all the pigmentation to her overly red lips" Graciela is a perfect foil.

At first blush the set up is believable but there are holes you can drive a tractor through. Thank you Cesar but you waste your breath on an idiot. David deserves every bad thing coming.

Glad to see there is a world outside the Vineyard and an ice cream shop even if it's the inside of a teen girls bedroom.

Gutierrez must really want that promotion.

I was shocked Luciana started crying. I wasn't shocked she is still at the Vineyard.

Tofie: Gutierrez is scared of his secrets being exposed ? We know Luciana is going to figure this out quickly.

Mean Girls still unstoppable & untouchable! Can somebody get a good girl for Leon, who cares about him ?

The conspiracy against Luciana is downright disgusting! I hope Karma bites Carito, Perla, Fernanda & Co., very soon!

Inspired UA.

"Her fleshs and fingernails looked as though they had ceded all the pigmentation to her overly red lips" and "We will now leave this scene as taste, decorum, and the censor dictate" were simply outstanding.

Your taking the time to include vocabulary is greatly appreciated. If you hadn't, I would have missed so much. This, in particular, struck me: "Oh, yeah? When I told you they were bullying me in school you said it was not your problem.” “Because I'm in high school and you have to learn how to defend yourself.” “You're my older sister. You have to help or at least [hacer mi caso]. Play with me. Teach me how.” How sad that Luci has formed a stronger, more caring bond with Bobby than his sister. Luci has known him for such a short time yet their affection for each other clearly transcends that of his sibling.

Fernanda is feeling guilty, and that is a (somewhat) positive sign. I hope that had she been present at the shakedown, she would have spoken up and told the truth. I am hoping she doesn't realize the severe repercussions her act will have. That will remain to be seen.

The entire episode was rather disquieting for me. I was uncomfortable watching this group of adults being subjected to such childish, accusatory behavior.

David's stony façade has returned. Disappointed he was also duped and did not believe Luci. tofie, I was also surprised to see Luci cry. She must really have been cut to the quick.

As for Lili and her lover - I simply don't care.

Gutierrez better keep his distance. As soon as Luci sees him, his promotion is so over.

UA, thank you so much.

Diana

Great point, Diana. Gutierrez could lose his promotion and maybe his job over what he did to Marcos and Luciana. He will certainly lose Marta's attention as well and would be subject to disciplinary action from the department.

He has to have some ulterior motive for boinking Lillian. He can certainly do better. She gives herself airs but has no class. The British in her English is inconsistent and her hair is very declasse. She got smashed on David's birthday. She treats most people like garbage.

And she has no friends. I wonder why.... not.

Did anybody else notice that Ferbrat told Bobby that Luci had done it BEFORE the earrings were found in Luici's things? And when she was telling Bobby this she had, supposedly, no way of knowing it was Luci. She was not in the gathering inquest. I waited a while for Bobby to spill the beans then when he went to bed I turned it off.

Thanks, Urban. “You'll never have anyone like me.” [She's probably right but not for the reason she thinks.] Love the recap and the snark. Thanks for the shot of shirtless Gutierrez, but too bad Lillian kept getting in the way.

Seeing David fold so easily is tough to watch. Dang, I sure hope they bring in somebody good for Miguel. Love that he, Marta, and León are willing to stand up for Luciana with their feet.

My guess is Gutierrez is buying Lillian's illusion that she is high class. Maybe that British accent on her American self is supposed to signify the length she'll go to appear hoity-toity.

There's hope for Fernanda. So far she's just a brat egged on by Graciela, not evil -- yet. A teen girl being too self-involved to pay attention to a younger sibling is sad but not so unusual. Now that she's blitzed on margaritas, maybe Fernanda will blab about what she did to Luciana.

Gutierrez is using both Marta and Lilian to cover his tracks. Their loathing for each other works in Gutierrez favor. I'm surprised Marta is willing to leave for Luciana but we'll see who she supports when it's discovered Gutierrez mistreated her husband and daughter.

Thanks, Urban. "She must have thought she was Miss Marple." LOL, Miss Marple is offended. So sorry I missed Sonia's "breathy tone"!

I caught only the end of this last night, and was both disappointed and grateful that I missed the big earring scene. David's gullibility is maddening. What would be Luci's motive for stealing Lisa's earrings?

"I'm family and the only people you can trust are your family," how strange for Graciela to play the family card in her quest for David's love.

I'm guessing that Carito's much-vaunted cousin is being kept alive in our minds so that we won't say "wait, who's this?" when said cousin suddenly shows up and throws a monkey wrench into the plot.

I'm surprised Gutierrez is still in fear of having his case reopened. Isn't there a statute of limitations? It's been more than ten years, right?

Anon: "Did anybody else notice that Ferbrat told Bobby that Luci had done it BEFORE the earrings were found in Luici's things?" I didn't see it last night, but it was clear in the recap. Bobby could actually be the one to clear this thing up.

So is Fernanda going to have a noticeable hangover when she comes home? That'll be awesome. I hope this is the day they shampoo the carpets. That's a great sound for a splitting headache.

Ferbrat. Good one!

I don't know if there is a statute of limitations when a cop is accused of anything. If not, it's because they have to be held to a higher standard. What we need to is that we don't go too much longer before Luciana sees him. He hasn't changed since deporting her and no way would she have forgotten his face!

Every comment on Luciana's non-motive was right; she would have no motive to steal Lisa's earrings or anything belonging to her. She shows no evidence of greed or envy of such things. We haven't even seen her in a dress and she doesn't always wear cosmetics. No motive. In fact I was starting to wonder whether David was preparing to give them to Ferbrat on a future birthday.

Before I "Read More," I'm going to yell in disbelief....What. The. Heck! Mine Eyes Doth Deceive Me....Gut and Lil did the nasty? Of course, I didn't expect it to be Marta--she's too godly. Gutierrez sure waited a loooooonnngggg time for this to happen.

Ah well, Urban--you deserve a medal for this one. More after I digest your epic-proportioned recap.

P.S. Oh, and looking at Gut's face, it was worth the wait.

Thank You Urban. Far better than the actual show. As usual.

Oh shit! excuse me Oh shoot! ! ! I just realized that screenshot is Lil and Gutter. YIKES any port in a storm, I guess. Musta been a Cat 5, or 11.

toa

Urban--A formidable rendering of a sorry, but not unexpected episode. Thank you. Seeing David slide down the inevitable slope into dumbness was painful, yet no surprise. (Under TN rules, the leads have to be kept apart for awhile, so the tension grows). Poor Luciana never had a chance, with the likes of most of the women against her. She really only has her mother and Susan on her side.

I second the kudos for: She must have thought she was Miss Marple...and...Sonia, looking much to fussy in her crime scene gloves...and The breathy tone should have given away her intentions.

Really enjoyed everything Sonia said, how she said it, how she looked when she talked and how you described it. I'm beginning to enjoy her character more now, an unusual blend of Miss Marple and Mrs. Danvers.

Juan was busy cooking the books in his office. Cute, I got this image of him bending over a Coleman single-burner camp stove stirring the pot.

Best lines of the episode between Luci and David
“Then why did you have them? Explain it to me! Do you have any idea how much this deception hurts me?”
“Well, if you are capable of thinking I'm a thief, you have deceived me far more.”

Second best line from Luci to David
“Ask yourself why I would break your heart.”

Diana-Hacer me caso has the meaning listen to me, or pay attention to me, or notice me, depending on the circumstances.

Niece--I'm still laughing over your, "Thanks for the shot of shirtless Gutierrez, but too bad Lillian kept getting in the way."

As for Gutierrez and the deportation. I think he did everything by the TN book. He was part of an immigration squad. His only deviation was that this particular "round-up" was targeted, thanks to Lilian. I think most of us were surprised they were deported within 24 hours with no opportunity to have a hearing. As we recall, they were just two in a sea of deportees. Obvio, Gutierrez was doing a top-notch job.

So sad. Big Dummy David. Flunked the IQ test with flying colors.

Lila

Whose wait was worth it, ours or his?

As far as "by the book" goes, there was paperwork pending. If the documents had been filed, was it legal to deport? I wouldn't think so.

Anita, Madeleine Albright said that “There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help each other.” It is perfectly applicable here.

Luci has been vilified and shunned since she arrived. I know her mother loves her but she failed to protect her from the cruel barbs for far too long. Her long face did nothing to deter the taunts. While relieved she has rallied to Luci's defense recently, she was quiet for far too long. Luci's staunchest defenders, aside from Susan have been the stalwart Miguel and of course, the devoted Bobby.

On a happier note, I am so glad you are enjoying Sonia! She is one of my favorites and I hope you have the opportunity to see her in other roles where she really shines.

Lia, "Big Dummy David". Yes. There you have it. Sigh.

Diana

Where's my manners! Thanks, Urban! Your beautiful style makes even an infuriating episode more than palatable!

Hey, Diana, where have I seen "Sonia" before? I can't place her but I know I've seen her!

Lila--"Sonia" was none other than the rich Ugly Duckling "Josefina Valverde" in Lo Que La Vida Me Robo. She was the marriage-bait for Dimitri, who needed money asap.

Thanks, everyone. I didn't quite go all the way on the dialogue because that would have taken much more time than I had for this. Not to mention the frustration with this particular plot point.

Sonia is such a puppet of Lillian's but her obsession with David could be useful in future when she comes to blows with Graciela over him. Both will end up losers and Luciana should have the last laugh. Unless Graciela pulls that old trick of climbing into David's bed when he's drunk over something else.... oh, let's not go there.

Oh, yes! Thank you, Diana! I watched the first few episodes of that but was unable to finish. I knew I'd seen her somewhere! :)

thank you, Urban. I was watching The Voice last night, and I forgot to surf into Vino during the commercials. I have been battling a cold and have been feeling tired and a little out of it.

I am not unhappy about missing the visual of Gut and Liliana doing the wild thing. Your screen cap was enough. Uff.

With LUCI gone, Graciela will be all over Dim Dave. Yuck.

I wonder how Mystery Cousin will fit into this tale. Maybe he will be the next to fall for Luci.

I forgot who mentioned the possibility the Juan is touting the Santa Barbara vineyard in order to cause more harm to Luci. She can be accused of disloyalty--working for the enemy. That would hurt David even more. Does she even know the name of EOOG? Was he the owner of Santa Barbara?

I can't see the action moving forward as easily if she's at a different vineyard. I opt that David says something to make her stay--maybe guilt that Miguel and her family are all quitting on her account. Maybe tonight will tell.

DimDumDavid--Great new moniker!

I don't recall ever hearing the olive grower's name. The actor's name is Roberto Malta, but the character's name isn't in the listings.

True, nothing much would happen if Luciana ended up somewhere else.

Anita: "I opt that David says something to make her stay--maybe guilt that Miguel and her family are all quitting on her account."

If he wants to make her stay, he'd better open with "I was wrong and I'm sorry." Not a guilt trip. Miguel and her family aren't quitting because of her. They're quitting because of HIM. David pulled exactly this kind of nonsense on Miguel just a few weeks ago when the wine went bad. He is quick to suspect employees when something goes wrong. He is squandering their loyalty.

Eeewwww Gramma you were banging that cop? And I am s'posed to keep my lips off that hot grape picker? How the flip is this supposed to be fair?

Oh Fernanadbrat, sometimes you just gotta do what a girl's gotta do.

Ha Ja Ja

Just saw the episode on Hulu. Couldn't believe that Juan actually smiled to himself and rubbed his hands together as he was "cooking the books". Somewhat amateurish acting on his part.

Diana: when Marta finds out what Fernanda did to frame Luciana, will she go beast mode on Aranza-Brat 2.0 ?

I hope Luciana finds out about Gutierrez soon!

Thanks UA. I have only to comment that "Frankly my dear, I dont give a damn" on those bullies mean girls , Carito and Perla. Why waste scenes about these girls. They're not even good actresses. I would rather the writer expands on the love triangle of Susan, Tano and Fer. Who gives a s**** about Carito's kin!!

UA, Thanks. David is as dumb as a box of rocks. I hope he smartens up soon, cuz he Is being robbed, lied to, slithered on (gracie) yuck! And breathed on heavily by sonia, shes probably the comic relief in the show. Lets see what the next episode brings us.

Thanks UA.

Nina. Exactly. Pretty package, but the box is empty.

Thanks UA, finally got an opportunity to read this through. I loved all your little sidebar comments, they were so funny and made reading your recap so fun!

As for Gutierrez and Lillian, I want to just erase that scene from my head because it hurts too much to think about it. I am so grossed out by her being with Gutierrez. This is one of those things I just wish I could "unsee" and get out of my brain. Lillian's comments about "you'd better behave" made me think of her being a dominatrix or whatever...gross...
