Vino el Amor 11/3/16 Chapter 8: Missing

Bullet points (some combined):

  • Marta said she would apologize to David. Luciana called Lillian out on not having changed a bit, saying she was the same bitter crone as before. Lillian said she and David don't want her kind there and she will be made to leave the way she came. She walked out. Luciana said she wasn't trying to create problems but just came to put the family back together again.

  • Sonia rolled her eyes at the sight of Bobby's game room before trying to get Bobby to invite her to join him in the game. He kept his eyes on the screen and almost ignored her. It was clear that she was trying to inch in on Marta's territory. “I love you very much,” she said. He looked at her suspiciously and said “But I don't.” The look on her face was not of sadness but of frustration.
  • Marta told her children she would talk to David about Marcos' ashes. She headed toward the door with the box. Luciana told her to please not cause any more problems. Marta put the box on the Virgen's altar and persuaded Luciana to accompany her. They left León and Miguel to their grief.
  • Lillian interrupted Juan's tryst with Erika, who leaves quickly. After closing the door Lillian insults Juan's taste in women, then tells him there is big trouble because Luciana is back and even more difficult than when she was a child. Marcos is dead and Lillian hopes that David will throw Luciana out. Lillian wanted Marta and her children off the estate ASAP but Juan did not think this will be easy now with Luciana there.
  • Marta and Luciana entered the main house and Marta lead with an apology on Luciana's behalf. David didn't even look up from his reading in reply, saying that he doesn't want anyone entering the house because it is disrespectful. Luciana promised she will never enter the house like that again. He looked up at the tone of her voice, then at Marta. “Anything else?” Marta told him of Marcos' death and got a flat answer “I'm very sorry, but that's life.” Marta asked permission to scatter her husband's ashes in the vineyard because he had loved those lands. When David didn't answer Luciana called him out on this, saying they might as well be talking to the wall. Marta tried apologising for this, but Luciana wouldn't let her finish. She shouted about how it would be wrong to refuse this because nobody loved those vineyards more than her father did. David finally rose from the chair, looked at her and said “I told you years ago you could put his ashes there. Your father was a great man and he meant a lot to me. It is a pity that life was so cruel.” Marta and Luciana thanked him and started to leave, but Luciana turned back. She was carrying the birthday present she had bought for him before her father died. Their hands touched as he accepted it. It was an oval belt buckle. He put the entire box into another box on the table. Luciana forcefully told him “Well, you know where we are when you're ready to say goodbye to my father.” She walked out, leaving David to return to wallowing in his bitterness.
  • Erika and Carito were also not celebrating Luciana's arrival. [Someone needs to tell them that trash-talking another girl does not score points with guys.]
  • Marta was telling Luciana she was hoping she'd conduct herself a bit differently. Before Luciana could answer Fernanda came looking for her, wearing her new crop top. She was whining about something and Marta talked her down about her new dress. Fernanda then looked at Luciana and asked who she was. “That's my daughter, Luciana.” Luciana put out her hand “Pleasure to meet you.” Fernanda took it no-heartedly with a “Mutual I'm sure” said about as sincerely as Lillian might. Luciana didn't miss that. Marta was not pleased with Fernanda, but the girl ignored her. Marta talked her into going back to the house to wait for her. She snubbed Luciana as she passed her and made a lame excuse for her behavior. Luciana was angry that her mother failed in teaching this girl manners although she noted that Lillian was probably the main one responsible. She said she regretted coming back.
  • Miguel returned to the employees' dining hall and Carito got on his case for smiling at Luciana's arrival. Erika left them alone to talk. Carito hoped that Luciana would only be staying a few days while Miguel is hoping she will stay. Her jealousy is too obvious. León returned, still not quite believing his father is dead. Miguel told him it will take time and he's got everyone there to help. Carito also promised this. Miguel left and she got around to asking León whether Luciana will be staying. He said he hoped so but it might depend on whether she can get a job. Carito looked like she wanted to see to it that there would be no work for Luciana. [Another junior vitch.]
  • Marta and Luciana made up and Marta told her daughter she was proud of her courage. She asked her to wait for her at the employees' dining hall and she would join her and León there.
  • Juan entered David's study with some reports and said they had to talk. He handed him some documents, naming them, and saying these need to be resolved. David told him to do it and he said it wasn't that simple. Finally, he said that the best solution would be to sell the vineyard. “David, this place is full of sad memories. Why not sell it and get a fresh start?”
  • Luciana and León hugged when she told him about being able to scatter their father's ashes. Erika came down the stairs and asked Luciana how long she was going to be around. At her reply that she might stay Carito deliberately dropped the breakable she was holding. Erika gave her a look and got verbally condescending. Miguel wasn't having it and Luciana thanked him. He walked out with her, leaving the two little vitches to pout in front of León.
  • Are you nuts?” David told Juan, who reminded him that he had taken no interest in anything in the past two years. He cited a few examples and then handed him a buy offer for his review. David refused, ordered him to find the solution, and sent him out. Lillian came in hoping to hear that he had banished Luciana. He disappointed her by saying that Luciana can stay there with her family in honor of her father. At her protests about Luciana's behavior he answered that she had just lost her father. He wouldn't do this to her. She tried to tell him that permitting this behavior will foment disrespect among the other workers. He told her not to interfere in his decisions. She tried hiding behind her grandchildren, saying they were her only family and she was looking to protect them and “nobody helps me”. [Where is the vomitorium when we need one?] David shut her down and told her to leave him alone. She gave up and left.
  • Miguel and Luciana were in the wine cellar remembering their childhood. She's happy to see him again and he makes it very clear he feels the same.
  • Gutiérrez and Lillian talked on the phone. She let him know she didn't like the way he looked at Marta. “You misunderstood. There is no one more beautiful than you,” he answered. “You better know I don't like betrayal,” she told him. He seemed to roll his eyes when he ended the call.
  • Marta lit another candle in front of the Virgen and took the ashes from the shelf. Ramón arrived to pay his respects to the family.
  • Lillian and Juan talked about David rejecting the offer for the vineyards. Lillian said this was serious because of Luciana's presence. He was to invent an available job but not give it to her.
  • Cesar came to see David and ran into Susan again. She had two bottles of wine in hand and they walked off as Carlos arrived, saw Fernanda, and started following her.
  • In the vineyard Luciana spoke to her father's spirit, then León, then Marta. David was some distance behind them, listening to their words and their tears and watching as the wind carried Marcos' ashes across the immediate area of the vineyard. Luciana looked back and saw him. He left a few moments later while Luciana talked about getting work.
  • Fernanda flirted with Carlos, but also looked like she was trying to play games. [He needs a better haircut.]
  • Later Luciana walked by the river's edge, then stripped to her underwear.
  • When Cesar arrived at the house Juan tried to persuade him to convince David to sell. Cesar did not think David would be any happier anywhere else. Juan gave his reasons and Cesar promised to talk to David. Susan arrived, saying she needed to talk to David. Juan said “He went out but I don't know when.” She said she'd be back later and left with the two bottles of wine and the glasses.
  • David was out by the same river. He was holding something that he angrily pitched into the water, then saw Luciana floating on her back. He flashed back to finding Lisa, then jumped into the water after Luciana. She started protesting and he said “I won't let what happened to Lisa happen to you.” She said “It won't because I've been swimming since I was a child.” “Anyway, it's very dangerous!” he answered. He got up out of the water, saying that swimming in the river is forbidden. She retorted about the air, the sun, and the trees and he stopped to look at her in her pink lingerie. They argued. She remembered him as a good guy and now he's bitter. He said that's who he is now. He had pulled her out to save her life. She held up her clothes and said that she'll get dressed if he turns around. He sneaked a peek as she put on her blouse and let her catch him. [Is the iceberg finally melting?]
  • Cesar and Juan were sitting in the parlor when Lillian entered, also looking for David. She feigned started to panic, then called for Sonia. She told her to get Miguel to look for David. At the two men's expressions she said that this was how it went with Lisa.
  • David tried to get a stubborn Luciana to let him drive her back. She refused, started to run, then stumbled on a rock and nearly fell. At the next refusal he picked her up caveman-style and put her in the car. [I personally would hate him forever over this loss of dignity.] He draped his jacket over her and ordered her to fasten the seat belt.
  • Bobby was still in front of his video game screen with the remote when Marta entered asking if he had seen his sister. He hadn't and she became concerned. Lillian entered with the same question and then told Marta to call Fernanda. [Really, Lillian, you couldn't have done that yourself?] She left and Bobby asked Marta why his grandmother was so worried. Marta said she didn't know but maybe she was exaggerating as she did most of the time. Fernanda didn't answer her cell.
  • Susan was taste-testing the wine as Carlos came in for casks. She said that there were none to take out [didn't catch the detail; if anyone did I'll fix this later]. He went outside as Marta was asking Ramón and other workers whether they had seen Fernanda. She told him he had better tell her if he knew or Lillian would sack him. He said nothing but there was guilt all over his face.
  • Miguel came running back from the vineyard to tell Lillian he couldn't find David. She feigned started to panic and Miguel turned around in time to see David and Luciana walk toward them. She had David's leather jacket wrapped around her shoulders. “David, where were you and what were you doing with this?” She gestured at Luciana. He gave her a searching look and asked “What's the problem?” “We were all worried. And what were you doing with that?” Luciana said “I'm going,” She looked at David and thanked him. “Don't be stubborn; you injured your leg.” “I told you I can make it alone.” Miguel ran to her and led her away. Juan noticed that both were wet and David told him they were down by the river. He walked back into the house without another word. “I don't like this at all,” Lillian said. [Too bad, Vitch!]
  • Carlos told Marta he hadn't seen Fernanda, Ramón hadn't seen David. Marta left the two of them together and Ramón asked Carlos for the truth. Carlos told him he hadn't seen her but as soon as Ramón left Carlos called Fernanda to find out where she was and tell her to get home She was with two female friends at an ice cream parlor and didn't come home for hours. He was waiting near the gate when her friend drove up and she got out of the car. He reproached her for this, reminding her he could be fired. She flirted with him again and kissed him on her way inside. [Carlos needs to go to the library and check out a copy of Strindberg's Miss Julie.]
  • David came down the stairs in fresh clothes and told Cesar that when he saw Luciana in the river he relived what happened to Lisa. He told her that anyone would have reacted as he did.
  • Miguel asked Luciana if her leg was alright. She said it was and he demanded to know what she was doing in the river with the boss.

Thank you Urban. I enjoyed tonight's episode because this is the first sign of life we have seen in David since Lisa died. Luciana is a spitfire and just what he needs to liven him up. And I guess she really got his attention at the river. Everyone's been tiptoeing around David as he wallows in his depression but Luciana will have none of it!

You're right; Luciana will not take this. She will probably haul him up short over neglecting the children. She has no fear of any consequences for this.

Which is exactly what Lillian and Juan don't want.

She is also unlikely to take any crap from any of the vitches she will encounter and that's almost too many.

Thank you UA.

"Where is the vomitorium when we need one?"

Carlos was being snippy with Susan about speaking with Davids friend Cesar

How did such a strong personality come from the loins of Marcos and Marta?

Stupid the owner of the place cannot disappear for an hour or two without the staff working themselves into a tizzy, dispite Lillian fanning the flames.

I didn't like the caveman move either but guess it is set up for the battle of will between an independent young woman and an older man that believes his role traditional and the protector. I loved it when Luciana told him she didn't need saving.

David knows, despite the legitimate reason for going in the water for Luciana, returning together wet, can be misinterpreted and the one harmed would be Luciana.

Urban, It was refreshing to see Luciana, an amazing, strong woman fearlessly plunge back into her former life in a straightforward, honest, pleasantries be damned way. Your sensational recap mirrored that perfectly.

It was your wry comments that were my favorites today: "[Another junior vitch]", " [Where is the vomitorium when we need one?]" and "[Is the iceberg finally melting?]". Excellent.

"At the next refusal he picked her up caveman-style and put her in the car". OK, yes, I realize that was wrong. But to be honest, I am glad that something made him leave his resentful, angry little world, if only for a moment.

And, yes, that pink underwear might have been the first warm water to melt the shards around his heart. "Spitfire" is right Cynthia. No censoring of words or actions for this proactive woman.

“He looked at her suspiciously and said “But I don't.” Loved Bobby’s rejection of Sonia! He delivered it simply and sincerely – no condescension, no snootiness. Just the truth.

I love to loathe venomous villains that ooze evil with glee, having maniacal mannerisms that match. Lili may be a bit too cool - I much prefer explosive outbursts and evil cackling. That doesn't make her less terrible, but not quite as much fun to watch.

Felt last night was a turning point and that things will be heating up. This is going to be fun!

Thanks again Urban!

Diana

Thanks, Urban.

I'm not sold on David and Luciana, but I'll take anything that wakes up Rip Van Winkle. Knowing that David's wife drowned, Luciana seemed too cheeky to me telling him it wouldn't happen to her because she been swimming all her life. In fact, folks who swim well can drown (sudden cramp, overconfidence, etc. -- though we know Lisa got clunked on the head with a rock) and no one should swim alone. As others have pointed out, that water is muddy and rocky and not tempting for a swim. Considering the muddy water though, Luciana's pink undies came out sparkling clean.

Loved Bobby’s rejection of Sonia! Diana, that was my favorite scene.

Thank You Urban
Stripping down to your Victoria's Secrets and hopping in the nearest mud puddle has not caught on here in Florida yet. Gringo chicks take note.

Thank you UA!

I liked this show a little better last night - felt like we got some minimal hints at future romance. I'm not sold on David and Luciana though. LOL I'm more into Tano and Fernanda. And I like Miguel, so I appreciated he showed a little jealousy about the river thing.

I am so confused between who is Erika and who is Perla and I think our captions guy in DC is too.

Bratty Bobby scored a point in the game last night when he ignored Sonia. Sonia is one to watch for the crazy.

Oh, note to self. Always make sure my bra and panties match. You never know.

Niecie, I should have thought about the condition of her underwear after she was in that river. Why would anyone go swimming there?

I don't recall seeing Erika in the prologue episodes so I don't know who she is either. She must be the child of another worker but I wish someone had identified her parents or something.

Why the hell are some people addressing Carlos as "Tano"? According to the site I just looked at it's a vulgarism equivalent to "wop."

I am wondering too ..who is Perla and also Carito? And Erika wasnt in any scenes yet right..?

Perla was the child who developed a crush on Juan in the prologue. Her parents haven't been identified. Erika and Carito must also be children of other workers, but their parents haven't been identified either.

I've been following this page since teresa. Never left a comment till now, just have to say I was confused on the new characters, if I recall Perla is jauns lover the one LIllin made a comment about. Even when they were asking if luciana was staying and made a remark then Miguel called her perla. Then we we have carito who has a crush on miguel. I did a lot of googling. Lol (I may still be wrong)

Cruz I agree. Juan's young lover is Perla and had a crush on him from childhood but have no idea to whom she belongs.

Carito is the one that baffles me though I know she wants Miguel and Leon is kinda sweet on her.

Thank you very much for the recap UA.

Tofie: I warned y'all that Fernanda was going to turn into Aranza 2.0 & her hostility towards Luciana (who's Isabel 2.0) is just the beginning.

Cruz: Perla is BAD NEWS. That girl is going to be causing problems for the good guys.

Dy77: This is slowly becoming "Por Siempre Mi Amor 2.0".

Thanks, Urban. I agree with you about the caveman-style carry. Not cool. It was also ridiculous that he peeked at her when she was putting her clothes on.

What was it that David threw into the river? Was it the belt buckle, or just a rock?

The tiny, unimportant missing detail about Susan and the casks was that David hadn't tasted them yet, I think. Thus no need to carry them out just now. (And then, as Tofie reported, Carlos giving her the cold shoulder over her friendly-looking relationship with Cesar.)

And I see I'm not the only one who's confused as to why is Carlos sometimes called Tano? Is it short for some other nickname, like Gitano? Is it his last name? It was nice of him to warn Fernanda, but he shouldn't have done that. He's going to let her get him into big trouble.

There was way too much melodrama in this episode. David claiming that he had saved Luciana's life, give me a break. And all the hysteria about David being "missing." He's a grown man for Pete's sake, can't he have an hour or two to himself? I suppose there's reason to worry he might be blowing his head off, but if he didn't do it two years ago he probably won't do it today.

Luciana was out of line telling David that the river "belongs to everyone." If it's on his property, then it's totally within his right to forbid swimming in it. (I wouldn't swim in it anyway; it looks muddy.) The air and the sun belong to everyone, yes, but the trees and the river not so much.

Tofie: "How did such a strong personality come from the loins of Marcos and Marta?" No kidding, right!? Maybe it was a sort of reverse psychology: She saw that being mild of manner can only get you so far, and hasn't yet learned the complementary truth that shooting your mouth off is just as likely to cut your trip short.

UA, the Cox DC captions guy is putting Tano for Carlos so I honestly thought that was his name! I have been wondering who Carlos is! LOL. I suspect captions staff everywhere are confusing all these younger characters.

Steve, I never saw that one and now I'm not sure I want to ;)

I couldn't see what he threw into the river, so I didn't try to identify it. We'll see if he wears the belt buckle in the next half-dozen episodes.

Carlos is a fool. Fernanda is a mini-Graciela and she's going to get worse. As to David being "missing" I think Lillian is going to get obsessed about keeping him apart from Luciana because his depression has thus far worked to her advantage.

I thought I actually heard someone refer to Carlos as Tano at one point, so I don't think it's a captioning error.

Thank you, Urban, for bulletpoints which were for me far superior to the episode itself. I do not like any of the characters of any importance. David is just tedious and Luciana is just a loudmouth. Looks like I will be leaving this one. Have fun, guys!

Oh Jarifa, I will be so sorry to see you go!

I have to admit that I'm having a difficult time with this as I can't even figure out who some of the characters are :)

I like Gabe and he and Cynthia are keeping me here for the present.

You will be missed...hope you are back soon. Look forward to "seeing" you then.

Diana

Que lastima, Jarifa! We will miss you terribly.

Julie, you didn't hear incorrectly. He's been called both.

Thanks, guys!

UA: If I'm Carlos, I'd be better off moving on & get far away from Fernanda, who is Aranza 2.0
