We again see Chivis and María José talking. Chivis tells her that she needs to tell AJ the truth about being in love with Vicente. But meanwhile she offers her support. MJ is thrilled. She says she wants to see him again tonight. Chivis isn’t thrilled, but she agrees to take MJ to see Vicente but insists she’ll drop her off and pick her up.
Stella still has on that ghastly top with a combination of leopard print and gold lamé. She tells Dom and Poncho that Manuel is happy she’s there but finds it a bit hard to accept because of the children [??] She crows that they’re going to be back together again very soon. Poncho is disgusted. He says that, when egotists were born, Stella was already there serving coffee! These Three Stooges have on the three ugliest outfits in Florida.
Dom and Poncho both tell Stella they can’t stand to see her hurt again. She says that love hurts, but she’s not going to die with her boots on. [This is what she said, but it doesn’t work very well.] She goes on to say how far she’s come. She’s sleeping beside Manuel, except for the wall. [A light bulb appears to go on over her head.]
Manuel has a talk with Lucha. He admits being deeply in love with Chivis. He says this is the first time since her mother died that he’s felt this way. She’s very sweet about it, asking his pardon for being so difficult about Chivis. She asks if Chivis feels the same way as he does; Manuel says she does.
Andrés gets a letter from the university. Laura follows him into the living room while he opens it. He tells her it’s about a project for which he applied quite a while ago. And he got it. He tells his mother that this will help him get over MJ. He also tells her he has a good female friend who’s helping him feel better.
Lucha tells her father that she thinks she’s had a hard time finding a boyfriend because none of them can compare with her father. When he asks about Andrés, she says that the relationship is “stable” like a terminal patient. Jorge comes home just then and goes straight to his room.
Lupita FF>>>> She calls Pedrito and suggests he have his father bring him over.
Angie is upset that Jorge hasn’t come yet. She’s talking with MJ while MJ is on her new elliptical machine. Just then Jorge sends a text saying something came up with his father and he won’t be coming over.
Manuel drags it out of Jorge about going to see Angie and AJ refusing to let him enter. And saying that he can’t see Angie any more. Manuel: “I thought he was OK about the two of you.” Jorge says that now things are different. He appears ready to give up. He swears he knew it wouldn’t work once she moved away. Manuel: “And you don’t plan to fight for her?”
Jorge tells his father that AJ forbade him to see Angie and that he not tell Angie about his forbidding him. Manuel: “So then you’ll look like a jerk with Angie and her father will be just fine with his daughter.” Manuel goes on to say that AJ came up with the macho thing but needs to be a man and tell his daughter what he did. Jorge tells his father he’s decided to fight for Angie.
Trini at the mansion FF>>>> But she did practically anoint herself with sainthood for having thanked the maid for agreeing to bring her whiskey just the way she likes it.
AJ shows up for dinner with the family, saying he doesn’t like to eat alone at a hotel.
Stella tells Dom that the wall between her bedroom and Manuel’s is very weak.
Chivis tells AJ he needs to tell her when he’s coming. He says he’s not a visitor until she gets a boyfriend. [?] She remarks, before going upstairs, that she hopes he doesn’t have a key to her bedroom. Trini has the gall to wonder why there’s a problem if he has a key and to admonish her daughter. [I envision a trap door in the floor of the mansion and Trini goes down.]
Génesis is at the new Three Stooges digs. Poncho is showing her around. She tells him she wants five kids! Stella interrupts their kissing.
Chivis confronts AJ with his having gone to see Stella. She tells him to stop beating around the bush. He brought her to this house as a surprise the same day that Stella moved into the house next door to Manuel. He blusters on about Stella being hurt and fearing that Manuel had something going on with Chivis. She tells him he told her he wouldn’t interfere in her life. He says something about her admitting that there’s something between she and Manuel.
Chivis drives me nuts once more by refusing to answer him. She says again that he promised not to meddle in her life, and that this would be HER house, and then he arrives with his own set of keys. He tries to move her purse out of the way to sit down and the photo of she and Manuel in Key West falls out of her purse. AJ: “Look at this pair of lovebirds.”
[Let’s see: slim, handsome, honest, funny, sexy Manuel or AJ the fat, controlling crook, what to do?]
AJ gets up in her face about the picture and she tells him to lower his voice. She says Manuel is a friend. He says that the employee [Sara] told him about her not sleeping there one night; and it probably wasn’t the first or the last time.
Stella, sneaky and underhanded as always, says she wants to show Génesis something. She opens up the dog cage and we hear the Psycho violins. The dog runs right to Génesis while the celestial choir sings. The Three Stooges stand there astonished while Génesis calls herself Tía to the dog and calmly puts him back in his cage.
Later Stella is listening on the stairs while Poncho tells Génesis that he used to love someone who didn’t love him back, but that’s all over now and he wants to get married.
The argument with AJ and Chivis gets nasty. AJ tells her that after 20 years of marriage she went to bed with the first man who showed up. Slap! She tells him more than he deserves. That her daughters know she went to Key West with him but that she hasn’t been unfaithful.
Margarita finally seems concerned about how miserable her grandfather is. Her brilliant idea is to invite Sara over. He looks very unhappy.
Poncho tells Dom he’s planning to marry Génesis and move to the old house. Living with Stella is too painful, especially right next door to Manuel. Poncho promises to name his first born after Dom.
A guy shows up looking for Stella. He has a toolbox, and she takes him up to her bedroom. Dom to Poncho: “Maybe he’s an electrician come to re-wire her brain.” They roar with laughter.
Chivis and Majo come down the stairs and the Fat Toad is sitting there. He asks them where they’re going.
Many thanks, novelera, for an excellent recap of a less-than-excellent episode. I think we almost had an admission from Chivis that Manuel was more than just a friend, but just as she was about to tell AJ, Majo barged in. Of course.
I loved your aside "[Let’s see: slim, handsome, honest, funny, sexy Manuel or AJ the fat, controlling crook, what to do?]"
I think that Stella's saying she'll die with her boots on sort of makes sense (as much sense as she ever makes). When someone vows to die with their boots on, they're saying they'll keep on fighting, they won't give up. And that, alas, is what birdbrain Stella is saying about her desire (I refuse to call it love) for Manuel.
I wish Dom were right that the burly workman has come to re-wire Stella's brain, but I suspect Stella has hired him to do something about/to the wall separating Stella's bedroom from Manuel's. Perhaps a peep hole a la Jorge? Or a door? Arrgh.
Saul does jump in to save some fully clothed lady who left her car in the street with the door open, but finding AG who makes it kind-of clear she wasn't trying to kill herself, and their talk bounces back and forth,
not sure of the order of things, she's in Veracruz on business, Margarita's name comes up, how Saul has devoted his life to helping abused women, Saul thinks AG may be one, do I look like a woman that's weak enough for a man to rape, maybe in your past Saul wonders, and on to the tenement that AG wants, and Saul says to forget, not gonna happen, because of your sister right? AG asks, the place is sacred to you, because her husband beat her to death, Saul doesn't want her mentioned, he saw the marks on her but believed her excuses until it was too late... and he sees something in AG, he wants to save her, they kiss, slow and deliberate, she lets it happen, but breaks away, he wants to know the girl behind the hard lady as they are now laying on the sandy beach, he kisses her again, she let's him.... and ends it, she made an oath to a man that she would not love again until things were settled, what man Saul asks.
Regina has made some soup for Felipe, he's thankful, she doesn't want him to throw his career away, he likes to drink to relax, is AG feeding you the liquor, Felipe doesn't care about his career.
Monica has $5 her friends gave her, she is very thankful but it doesn't make much of a dent in the $15,000, where will she get the money, Lidya sees her look, don't even think about selling stolen merchandise with that lady, it starts out simple goes to this and that and pretty soon you're selling drugs and get arrested and... you should ask Saul for help, he has connections.
but Saul is not back yet, and Ximena who is feeling Saul slowly slip away is not in the mood to see miss innocence and let's her know.
AG arrives home, all glamorous again, Isabel wants action on her novio, Felipe wants to talk about their marriage, do I have to solve problems every time I come home, she pulls Regina off for a private talk and we get the real story, that was the beach her and Cesar used to go to, the fun they had, and he would kiss her under the water and as AG was getting wrapped up in the moment, she dove into the water to be met by Cesar, but it was Saul taking his place, wow!
Saul arrives home, no time for Monica, Ximena is still on a roll, and sees the distance in his eyes, she wants answers, he doesn't think this is a good time, but gives in and tells Ximena about AG in Veracruz, they kissed (and yes he was right about it not being a good time) she explodes, packs and leaves but not before telling all what a crummy place this tenement is.
AG calls Braulio, she wants him to take one of the jets in the morning, meet with Miguel in Veracruz, and escort him back to the hacienda as a valued business partner, but don't let anyone see you with him, and he does (she wants the names of all 5 Monkeys)
Ximena gets a room, Saul's mother is with her, she's worried, Ximena spills about Saul kissing AG, but thinks it was more, not a happy mom.
Felipe is drinking again and goes to AG, she'll have a drink with him, he wants sex, she brings up his little problem, no he is really ready (and she is being really sexy), but wait sign these papers first, he wants to read them, it's a house we talked about selling, he wants his reading glasses, she wants to have have sex with him, could he hurry up, he is really drowsy but signs, before he passes out.
Wow, deb, what a terrific recap! You've got an amazing gift for capturing what happens in wonderfully evocative, concise phrases. If I cited all the phrases that stood out for me, I'd be copying most of the recap. I will mention that I laughed out loud at "(and yes he was right about it not being a good time)."
I want to say once again that I'm immensely grateful to you for your doing all these recaps. I miss a lot when I watch this novela, and so in addition to enjoying your style, I'm also filling in some of what I missed. MANY THANKS!
novelera - Thank you for the recrap! I was too sick over the weekend to read the recaps, much less watch this stuff. I'm on the mend and appreciate your labors. AND THE SNARK!!!
"Fat Toad" is perfect.
Stella is probably having a doggy-door installed in the wall for the current-"female dog"-in-residence.
" [I envision a trap door in the floor of the mansion and Trini goes down.]"
Best line of the whole recap. And it brought back memories of the old BugsBunny era cartoons .... either those or the RoadRunner ones had a trap door, no? Beep! Beep!
Eeesh, Chivis, you have money. Go get the locks changed on that house.
Gracias, novelera, for that recap. It filled in some dots I missed, and it reinforced that I'm so damn over Trini and Antonio Jose--particularly here, since Silvana's effective lie of omission gave the DotU (Douchebag of the Universe) a truly undeserved moment of moral superiority. Trini reveling in her queen-bitchery in the guise of "sainthood" and Benito mooning over her, comparatively, was the pebble I can't get out of my shoe. OTOH, Jorge admitting that DotU intimidated him was good--maybe this gets us closer to somebody punching his damn lights out.
And all that said: Genesis calming Francisco Javier 2.0 to Stella's chagrin and Poncho's apparent moving-on speech to Genesis kind of helped save this episode. I'm still not certain Poncho will get his happily-ever-after with her, but after this I'd kind of like to see it just for a change of pace.
Juanita, what confused me, and I listened a couple of times, was that I heard Stella say she would NOT die with her boots on. I interpreted that as a Spanish speaking writer misusing the metaphor. Yes, saying you'd die WITH your boots on fits.
Bill, I like DotU! And I'm with you about someone punching his lights out, and soon.
Doris, we're on the same page, all right. Change the blankety blank locks, Chivis!
You're right, novelera. I just went to the Telemundo website to review that part, and Stella does say "no": "Yo no me voy a morir con las botas puestas." Which, as you rightly point out, makes no sense in the context of what she's been saying. I guess I was so pleased at catching "morir con las botas puestas" that I failed to notice that the statement included a "no." :-)
FWIW, re: Stella's "boots" comment, I FFWDed just enough to get to this scene. The English subtitles had her saying "...or I'll die trying."
(The actors talk entirely too fast for my ears, so in order to follow this show I've got to have the English CCs. Not proud of it, but there it is.)
Thanks very much, doris. You've made my day. If even the English captions can't get what she says right, I don't feel so bad. :-)
I am QUITE curious about what that mechanic is going to do. Span Prof, you may be right about the weakening of the wall. Of course, Stella's stunning gall would probably not preclude her having the mechanic put in a door, á la chain motels so families can move from room to room.
Doris, I like your "doggie door" suggestion. Quite appropriate, actually.
Novelera- I so enjoyed this recap. I watched the show on ffwd, but I did stop to watch the scene with Genesis and Javito. I was so happy for Javito to finally be out of the cage, and to be with someone whose company he seemed to enjoy. Right now, my favorite couple on this show is Genesis-Javito, and I’m really pulling for them to walk off into the sunset together.
Fat toad perfectly describes AJ in that last scene. My beanie is about to fly off watching Chivis let this man treat her like a 12 year old child. It’s none of his damn business where she and her grown daughter are going, and what the hell is he doing sitting in HER kitchen?! Ugh! He makes me want to curse, and Chivis is getting me almost as hot under the collar for allowing his behavior.
With the right seated pose and the right camera angle, AJ makes me think of Jabba the Hutt. 😛
I like Genesis and Poncho better than Poncho and Stella (as long as Ponch quits pressuring Genesis into a physical relationship she doesn't want yet). They're both a little too stupid to be a couple. Genesis, despite her super-ultra-conservatism, seems like a nice person and could be good for the schmuck. She's certainly better for Javito. And Stella might still be pregnant with Steve's baby, so they should end up together and have a hellion of a child because they deserve nothing less for all their lying. They could be giving birth to the next AJ.
Kelly
AG hands Rafael (her PR guy) the papers signed by Felipe, they call for expropriating the land (take possession for public use) and wants him to put together a campaign promoting it.
Monica goes job hunting to the crooked street lady, Deputy is her name, but doesn't allow Lidya to come along, and the more she hears about the work, the less she likes it and changes her mind, but she already knows too much, they grab her (and they manage to get her sick fathers name, Lazaro).
Saul looks like he had a sleepless night, but he's back to business, asks Lidya where monica is, and when she stumbles around he senses something is up and gets her to spill.
the landlord comes for Yesenia's rent money but without Guillermo around she is a little short, is that a crank telephone on her wall, and a tube tv, what year is this?
Braulio is having a hard time convincing Miguel to come to the capital, AG has him hand to phone to him where she says it's just for the day and implies a little more than business will be happening.
Regina wakes Felipe with a glass of water, she won't let him miss another day of work, he looks terrible, what happened?
Ximena pops in on AG to confront her, but Ag works her by the numbers, first with a briefcase full of cash, and an executive position in Madrid with all the benefits, nope, then threatens her to stay away from Saul, nope, then appeals to her, look, go to Madrid if Saul loves you he will follow and you'll be away from the tenement, his parents, etc, nope, oh and there is this other thing, proof that she had Saul's baby aborted, talk about taking a walk down a dark and lonely road, Ximena finds herself with the cash in hand, slowly moving in the direction of the door.
Yesenia comes to see AG and is grabbed by the guards, she makes a fuss and Regina (who is just too good of a person to have anything to do with any of these people) goes to see what's up, and keeps getting dragged into the middle, and when Felipe comes by they go with Yesenia looking for a job as a cook, he thinks that would be ok, and after he leaves Yesenia works her way into the house, she smelled alcohol on Felipe, AG is doing the same thing, right, and she also senses Regina is crazy for this guy, but anyway she is here to talk about AG's daughter, no she won't tell her name, buy Lazaro's liver is going, he's dying, and the scrawny daughter needs help, asks for 30,000 pesos, for the daughter, Regina doesn't trust her, so write me a check Yesenia says.
Azucena is off to see Ximena, she thinks of her as her daughter, wants to help, Jaime asks if she wants him to go along, she does.
Deputy has Monica deliver a pouch of stuff to some guy, and sends along a guy with a gun to make sure she doesn't run off, Saul has found out where they are and overhears them talking, and follows, and when the delivery is made I guess Monica is part of the deal as they throw her in the car, Saul gets the gun from one guy and they are at a standoff, Saul tells them to take the pouch but not Monica, which they reluctantly agree to, Monica is totally shaken and eternally grateful to Saul for saving her life, she takes the gun from him, wipes his prints off it and throws it away (is this a good idea)
(I think it was computer parts)
ok, Monica needs money, but they need a different plan, but for now Saul will help her with the permit, and at city hall the clerk comes running with the permit, what? as Gabino stops by Lidya's corner and spills about shaking down the clerk, oh and could I have Monica's number?
Miguel is impressed with the hacienda, but where are the staff, Braulio lets him know AG sends them away when she wants things private, she is on her way as he calls and warns her, (he can't imagine why she would want to be business partners with this guy), he is expecting sex and looks like he will force himself on her if he doesn't get it, (something Braulio has probably considered himself) but she arrives and dismisses him with a smile, Miguel is looking for an unforgettable night and AG aims to please.
We again see Chivis and Majo about to leave the house when they come upon AJ in the kitchen. "Where are you going?" he asks in his imperial tone. Chivis claims that she's taking Majo to an amiga's house. AJ tells her they still need to talk. "Yes, but not now," replies Chivis. "Right now I'm too upset" (alterada), she says. "We can talk tomorrow. And when I get back, I don't want you to be here."
As soon as Chivis and Majo leave, AJ phones Esteban and tells him he wants him to follow Chivis. He wants to know where she goes, whom she sees, etc. And the more information he can provide, the more money he'll earn. Esteban likes what he hears. But although he tells AJ that "discretion" is his second name, he goes on to ask AJ "If I catch Chivis red-handed (con las manos en la masa), do you want me to tell you, or would you prefer to die deceived?" AJ explodes and Esteban ends the conversation because Chivis' car has just pulled out and he has to follow it. He says to himself, "The poor old guy has more horns than bambi."
Stella says goodbye to the workman who did we-don't-yet-know-what upstairs. She tells Poncho and Dom that eventually they'll see what the workman did. Poncho asks Stella whether she'll lend him her old house now that Génesis and he are getting married. She agrees. He then asks whether he can have it right away. She gets indignant--it's not one of those by-the-hour hotels. But then she relents, except she tells him that he'll have to pay rent, and more rent than he did before. Poncho is disappointed. "I thought we were friends," he says. Stella replies, "friendship is friendship, and business is business." Now Poncho is at the point of tears, not about the money, but about the fact that Stella doesn't seem to care that he's leaving and is going to marry Génesis. "She's not even a little sad, all she cares about is money and material things." Poncho goes on to admit that he is asking for her old house because he can't remain living with them while Stella is once again in hot pursuit of Manuel, and Manuel lives right next door. Stella tells him she wants him to be happy with the big-breasted sister (la hermana pechuga), just as she will be with Manuel.
Poncho receives a phone call from Vicente. He goes into another room and closes the door. Now that Poncho is not present, Dom sighs and says to Stella, "Poor Poncho. He's getting married without being in love." Stella expresses some surprise and asks why Poncho is doing that. Dom explains the obvious: "Poncho is in love with you." Stella says, "What can I do? I'm in love with Manuel." Mentioning Manuel apparently reminds her of the photo she took of Manuel and Chivis kissing in his office. She takes out her phone, finds the photo, and sends it to AJ.
In the Coral Gables mansion, Lupita is proclaiming her delight at everything: the house, her room, the bathroom, etc. She tells Angie that although her mother and Majo have cautioned her about getting her hopes up, she's convinced her parents will get back together. Angie tells her she's not so sure. Lupita accuses her of not wanting them to get back together. Angie says that's not so, she'd be glad if they did so, but she wants them to choose what will make them the most happy. "And," she tells Lupita, "we as their children should support them in whatever decision they make."
Poncho isn't the only despondent one. Don Benito sits on his couch, staring into space. Margarita asks what happened to Sara. "She left," replies Don Benito. "We had nothing to say to each other." Margarita claims to be surprised; she thought Don Benito really liked Sara. "That was in the past," her grandfather tells her. "I'm a one-woman man, and that woman is [he and Margarita say together] Trinidad Altamirano de Rivapalacios." He tells Margarita that he doesn't want to be alone, that some day she [Margarita] will leave, and he'd like a woman at his side. To my astonishment, Margarita tells him that he's convinced her. "If you want Trini, you should go after her. I support you. Go for it. Do the greatest craziness (locura) that you've ever done." A completely revived Don Benito hugs Margarita and agrees: "Yes! I'll do the greatest craziness that I've ever done in my life!"
Chivis drops Majo off at the salsódromo, where she finds Vicente. They dance and laugh. At one point, she says "I don't want you blaming me all my life that I went with two people at the same time." Vicente asks, "Did you say 'all my life'? Does that mean that you want to be with me for all your life? That we'll grow old together, and sit in rocking chairs and wear diapers?" Majo says she'd rather die first. Vicente asks, "You'll leave me all alone?" "No," replies Majo, "you'll be with our children." Vicente then proposes that they find someplace more private than the salsódromo. Majo leads him off the dance floor.
Back in Coral Gables, AJ tries to turn Angie against Jorge. He asks whether Angie is angry that Jorge failed to show up. Angie said no, he called to tell her he wouldn't be able to come. She observes that in the past, it was easier: if there was a problem, she could just go knock on his door. AJ points out that soon school will be over, and it will be harder for them to see each other. And Jorge doesn't even have a car to come see her. He then quotes a saying, "Amor de lejos, Felices los cuatro" (long-distance love affairs make four people happy; in other words, each person will fall in love with someone else closer at hand).
Chivis tells Manuel about AJ's finding the photo. "I told him the truth, that we went to Key West together but nothing happened." She admits that deep down, she didn't want to hide the photo. "I want him to know that I'm in love with you." They have some sweet talk together, and Chivis says she misses the balcony. Manuel tells her that when they live in the same house, he'll build her a balcony. Chivis keeps talking about how hard this situation is for her, that AJ intimidates her [No, really?]. She admits that she lost control during the confrontation with AJ and slapped him.
Meanwhile, AJ's conversation with Angie is winding down and he's about to leave. As he's leaving the room, he stops: "Oh, one more thing. Do you think your mother is in love with another man?" Angie wants no part of this: "What kind of question is that?" she asks. She tells AJ that she's very uncomfortable, and that he and Chivis should discuss the issues between them, that it's not fair of him to involve his daughters. She says that she doesn't want to take sides. AJ insists that she can't abstain from taking sides (tú no puedes abstenerte a tomar partido). Angie assures AJ that he'll always be her father and she'll always love him, but she insists: "Please respect my decision to remain on the sidelines" (mantenerme al margen).
Manuel insists to Chivis that she has to tell AJ the truth. It's best for everyone. Chivis replies that she has always done what AJ said, and that it's very hard for her to confront him. Manuel assures her that now she has him, he's there for her. "My love for you is stronger than any obstacle," he tells her. "Stronger than whatever distance, whatever threat, and certainly stronger than whatever bandido."
Stella catches sight of Esteban in the car outside Manuel's house, spying on Chivis. The two of them talk. He's still interested in her. FF>>
AJ is still talking with Angie. He talks about their values. Angie says that their values have remained intact. AJ replies that "therefore we shouldn't provide bad examples for Lupita, for example. I think your mother has forgotten this." Angie objects that her father is being unfair: "My mother is a great example for us of unconditional love, work, and sacrifice." Just as she is saying this, AJ's phone buzzes: He sees the photo Stella has sent of Chivis and Manuel kissing. He immediately gets up and leaves the room, leaving a puzzled Angie.
Chivis comes looking for Majo at the salsódromo. She doesn't see her. She describes her daughter to someone named Hector, who refers to Majo as Vicente's novia. Chivis says she's not exactly his novia. Hector replies, "It seems you haven't seen them kissing while dancing." He then tells her that Majo and Vicente have left. She looks around, puzzled, and fails to notice Esteban right behind her.
Vicente and Majo are in bed in Stella's old house. Majo is nervous, she doesn't want anyone to know about this. Vicente tries to assure her, but she's afraid that since he got the keys from Poncho, Poncho knows, and he's the biggest gossip in the world. Vicente tells her not to worry, that men don't talk about these things the way women do [Hah!]. The talk becomes more loving, and Vicente confesses that he snores (ronco). A surprised Majo confesses that she does, too. Those sexy confessions lead, of course, to "Te amo and Yo también te amo.
At the salsódromo, Steve receives a call from AJ wanting to know what's happening. Steve tells him that Chivis dropped off her daughter and then went to see her ex-neighbor. AJ wants to know how long she was there. Not all that long, replies Esteban, but "long enough so that everything could have happened,
believe me." He adds that when Chivis returned to the salsódromo, Majo and her novio had already left. "Novio? What novio?" yells AJ. He then wants to know what Majo is doing with that naco. "I don't know," replies Esteban, "but I doubt that she's praying." Mr. Discretion continues in this vein. AJ is furious. The conversation ends, and Esteban decides to join in the dancing.
Chivis texts Majo. Majo answers that she's just saying goodbye to Vicente. Majo appears a minute later. Chivis lights into her--"I covered for you, I lied to your father, I brought you here, and when I came to get you, you had left!" Majo apologizes and says that she and Vicente went someplace to eat and then they fell asleep (nos quedamos dormidos). "What do you mean, you fell asleep?" demands Chivis. Majo does a lot of hemming and hawing and finally admits that she and Vicente were at Stella's old house and that, "the truth is that I'm an adult woman and no, we didn't fall asleep. What happened is...I want to go to a gynecologist, and I want you to come with me." End of episode.
Great review! I'm not even watching it anymore, just following on here. The snail's pace, plus Chivis deferring to AJ (& being a total wimp!) have really put me off. They could have shrunk this show down to a half or a third of the time this has taken without losing anything vital.
Newsflash, MaJo.... adult women go to the gynecologist by themselves!
Does anyone know what Ximena did with the money AG gave her? She was shown scribbling some note after looking at the money in her hotel room. I thought she might have been thinking about donating the money to some needy persons, perhaps the ones that Saul defends in court.
Monica reminds me of a young (and thinner) Mariah Carey.
Perhaps Stella had the workman install a peephole in the wall so that she could spy on Manuel as he slept!
Gobluefan- what I remember is that Ximena took the money back to her room and pulled out some writing paper from the nightstand to... I'm thinking for a goodbye note, but they really haven't shown us yet.
Danna Paola (Monica) is an amazing actress, considering she is only 21.
thanks so much Juanita!
it's nice for me that you put in so much detail since I've been drifting off quite a bit lately, I didn't even remember where Stella got that picture she sent to AJ.
I guess we are supposed to get that Lupita really isn't comfortable with her room because she is afraid to be alone, although she shouts out that she likes it to anyone that she does. I thought AJ was going to pull her out of school, and stick her back in the other one, all by herself, this might be the breaking point for her.
C'mon, Chivis. Rip that bandaid off your feelings of fear and tell the bandito off. It will hurt less in the end.
Juanita - Thank you for the "recrap" and the translations!
I am so ticked off with these characters! Bah!! Humbug!!!
Hopefully, there will be massive anvils for AJ and Stella that will make it worth hanging in there with this story. I want anvils. Serious anvils for those two!!!
Poncho is such an idiot for wanting to marry someone he does not love. My new nickname for him is Scarecrow --- "If I only had a brain..." And in spite of this, Poncho is too good for Stella, who should have to live out her years in a Catholic convent (no men!) as her punishment with a vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience.
I'm also hoping Jorge outs AJ to Angie.
Don Benito is now Scarecrow #2 (Poncho is Scarecrow #1). He needs a brain, too, if he is dumb enough to pine after Trini. Get a dog. A turtle. Anything.
We probably won't see any real action before Ultimas Semanas, as usual. I hope I'm wrong.
Thanks so much, Juanita! Your wonderful, detailed recap was more than this show deserves.
"the truth is that I'm an adult woman...I want to go to a gynecologist, and I want you to come with me." This scene made me laugh so much. Majo doesn't know what it means to be an adult woman.
Chivis is driving me more bonkers than the villains at this point. Why in the heck is she intimidated by AJ? Get a spine, Chivis! Manuel is a saint to put up with this.
Thanks, Juanita! Stellar recap! And you got one where something happened.
AJ, of course, is like all other spurned other-guys-than-the-protagonist. He keeps trying to get the girl (in this case get back the wife) and keeps failing. This actor must have gone to a special, Be Loathsome Telemundo acting school. He was horrible as the serial murderer in Bajo el Mismo Cielo. And he’s quite despicable in this one.
I wonder if Majo is locking the barn door after the horse (i.e. rapid sperm) has left the barn. Of course a pregnancy would improve Vicente’s chances as AJ’s son-in-law.
I’m actually happy Stella sent AJ the photo of Manuel and Chivis kissing. What she feels for Manuel needs to come out. And I, of course, hope the Fat Toad is suffering a bit.
The Steve actor was funny at the salsa club. I think he has a gift for comedy. And I loved the “more horns than Bambi” remark!
I’m a bit worried. Angie got a funny look on her face when Fat Toad said something about a long distance romance making four happy. I’m sure she’s thinking of Margarita. And the nerve of FT grilling his daughter about Chivis’ feelings, even starting out with her being his most truthful child. She handled it beautifully.
The writers are jerking us around with Poncho. I actually felt he was sincere when he told Génesis that the old love was in the past and that he really wanted to marry her. Then the very next night we’re assured that he’s still in love with Stella. I had hoped that Javito’s feelings toward Génesis were a sign!
Many thanks, deb, for another first-rate recap. I didn't comment until now because I didn't have time to see the episode until now. Loved comments such as "(something Braulio has probably considered himself)" and "Miguel is looking for an unforgettable night and AG aims to please." Perfect!
I knew Ximena wasn't "the one" for Saúl, but her having aborted his baby made that crystal clear. I confess it caught me by surprise.
Miguel is such a sleazeball, and normally I like seeing sleazeballs get what's coming to them, but I have a feeling I may find La Doña's revenge a bit hard to take.
Belated but heartfelt thanks to all who commented. I don't know where this day has gone, but I should be in the kitchen making dinner. Arrgh.
Anyway, doris, I loved your "Get a dog. A turtle. Anything." Yes!
I agree with all the people who said that an adult woman doesn't need or want her mother to come with her to the gynecologist. I think novelera may have hit upon the reason for Majo's request. If Majo just wants a prescription for the pill, she probably wouldn't ask her mother to accompany her. But if she's pregnant.... I guess we'll see.
And yes, novelera, I agree, the actor who plays AJ (and Alan in Bajo) does Loathsome very well. He probably took Telemundo's beginner AND advanced Loathsome classes.
I haven't been able to catch up. I'm about a week behind. So I'm not reading what I am sure are excellent recaps by deb. I'm sure I will be catching up at some point and watching this one after Silvana finishes. The Fan looks awful, and I don't see myself watching the Cielos spinoff - El Chema.
Two novelas a night are just too much, especially when I like to watch basketball as well.
Saul's parents find their way into Ximena's room, she's gone, left a note and her phone.
Saul and Monica are on their way back, he calls Ximena but gets gets his dad, they tell him about the note, he rushes to the airport while Monica tries to calm him.
Yesenia pays her rent, 2 months, and asks Guillermo's picture to forgive her, if Lazaro doesn't want the money... (and I want to see more of her place, neat stuff)
AG lets Matamoros and Braulio go, she flirts with Miguel with one of her rifles, he asks if she has a gun fetish, does she like it rough, he is ready to go, she has him take off his shirt, they talk about tattoo, the rape, puts him on his knees, the fear is creeping into him, she wants the names of other Monkeys, he tries to bargain, grabs the other rifle but it's not loaded, then distracts her and runs, she follows and shoots, closer and closer, then the leg, he goes down, then the hand, he says he'll talk when she turns him over to the police, he wants a trial, I'm the judge, next one will be between his legs, Braulio has come back, stops her.
why didn't you tell me about the rape, Braulio says, dying is too good for him, he wants to help, they take him to a basement, unconscious, but he won't stop bleeding, AG will stitch him up (and I think he will be feeling every stitch)
Saul's parents back home agree no one will never replace their daughter Clara, but Azucena still cares for Ximena, how will she get by?
Saul goes nuts at the airport trying to find Ximena, Monica helps, they find her flight, but no more seats left, he buys a ticket for another flight near that gate.
Saul flies through the airport (this guy is really agile, people everywhere and he dodges them all), but Ximena has boarded, tears in her eyes, he is too late.
Monica talks to lidya, she urges her to stick with him.
Felipe flips over AG's rejection, comes to the conclusion she is cheating on him, tears up her room looking for proof.
AG is digging out the bullets and sewing up Miguel who is begging for some kind of pain killer, stop whining she says.
Saul and Monica stop for a few forgetting drinks on the way home, Monica informs him they are leaving when she finishes her beer, alcohol doesn't always deliver, that's how my dad crashed, and what about your mother Saul asks, Monica is not going there.
Miguel asks Braulio for help, as he ties him to a chair, they're both men, you understand, women are just for our pleasure, Braulio slugs him. (which is the bad guy here?)
Monica and Saul talk, if Ximena knew you were so special, why did she leave, Saul spills, he was in love with another women, he tried to deny it but he couldn't stay away from her and it kept growing, (wow he has totally fallen for AG, but he doesn't give a name, does Monica think it's her)
Ag keeps calling Miguel bunny like they called her during the rape, he tries screaming, she laughs, and a black bird flies in, they come at my worst times and at my best times she says as she leaves, him with a glass of water next to his chair, the last he will ever have.
Saul is ready to go, but Monica wants to cheer him up, asks the musicians if she can sing a song and then asks the audience for applause, for Saul who saved her life today, then sings a pretty song.
AG makes it home, glamorous as always, met by Isabela, she has him call her boyfriend Marcos, he hasn't been answering but after a text that AG wants to talk with him, he does, she invites him to dinner, be a gentleman and quit hiding she says, and as he profusely thanks her, AG has hung up and is on to other things.
Felipe is drunk and with a lady recommended by a friend, in her undies, no one must know he tells her, I just need to prove something, of course, she's not wasting any time getting to it.
in their late night talk, Regina is upset AG broke up Saul and Regina, AG wants to keep him distracted, then the conversation goes to Felipe, who was looking through her things and... this all ended strangely, Regina left and AG went to some drawers that were open but was this the entrance to the bat cave.
novelera- I'm really hoping you come over to this one because I am really interested in hearing your comments on this compared to Doña Bárbara, the novela and the book.
Muchas gracias, deb, for another excellent recap. It cleared up some things for me, such as why Felipe was going through AG's dresser drawers. And yes, I think the actress playing Mónica did a terrifc job of showing subtle signs that she thought Saúl was talking about her as the "other woman" he had fallen for.
BTW, I assume that in the last paragraph of the recap's part 2, you meant to say "Saúl and Ximena" rather than "Saúl and Regina." It drives me nuts that the Blogger software glitch prevents us from previewing what we write before we post it. (Or, rather, we can preview, but then it doesn't let us post. Sigh.)
novelera, I'm glad to hear that you'll be watching La Doña after Silvana drags to its conclusion. I've been trying to watch both, and it's really more than I want to handle. At times, I'm falling asleep before it's over. But I hate binge-watching Spanish-language stuff, so I'm reluctantly persevering. I'm enormously grateful to deb for her wonderful recaps.
Majo is afraid to see a gynecologist on her own since she’s never been to the doctor alone before even though she’s totally a grown woman. She admits to Chivis that she’s not a virgin after Chivis reminds her that she was the one who always said she wanted to wait until marriage.
Vicente returns home deliriously happy but Jorge warns him that AJ will probably turn on him too and forbid him from seeing his daughter.
Chivis agrees to go to the gyno with Majo, who is terrified of getting pregnant. She slightly changes the subject to tell Majo she should be more responsible in other parts of her life too. She needs to find out what she wants to do, i.e. study/work. Majo feels like she can’t do anything. Chivis tells her everyone is good at something.
Jorge wishes he could be as optimistic as Vicente. Vicente jokes that he would kidnap Majo if AJ tried to stop them from being together. You can’t fight love. He would even drink Romeo’s poison if he had to because no one can keep them apart. Although, why drink poison when you can just get married? Jorge also likes the idea of getting married. Vicente tells him he’s too young.
Trini is up early because she has invited her friends over for brunch and she wants to make sure everything is perfect. AJ arrives to pick up the girls for school, but he tells Lupita to change into her old uniform because she’s going back to her old school. Both Lupita and Angie are angry. He didn’t even ask or tell Lupita beforehand. Lupita is upset that she won’t see Pedrito anymore.
Angie continues yelling at her classist father for being such a jerk and stomps off. I just can’t with AJ and Trini anymore.
Pedrito wakes Lucha up to tell her that Andrés is downstairs. Pedrito keeps staring at Andrés and is annoyed when Lucha kicks him out to go to school. Andrés takes forever to tell Lucha that he applied to work in the state of Guerrero in Mexico because they need doctors, and he needs to be there in one week. Even though he planned to be a plastic surgeon, after meeting her and seeing the world through her eyes, he wants to do something more socially responsible. Lucha starts out saying it’s unfair to leave his students in the middle of the semester. In reality she is more sad that they won’t have a chance to be together. Andrés explains that he just needs time away from everything, and he really needs her support in this. She will support him.
Angie breaks the bad news about Lupita changing schools to Pedrito.
Stella is Stella with Chivis in the office and I can’t with her anymore either.
Angie tells Jorge about AJ changing Lupita’s school and how he’s acting like his old classist self again. Jorge tells her people don’t really change. He asks why AJ didn’t make her change schools too. When she says it’s because she’s about to graduate so there wasn’t much sense in changing now, he finally breaks down and tells her that he did go to her house the day before, but AJ wouldn’t let him and told him to forget about her. Angie can’t believe how her father is acting and apologizes. Jorge assures her that nothing will keep them apart.
Manuel tries to calm Chivis down after the millionth time Stella annoyed her. He changes the subject to the AJ and Chivis of course still hasn’t dared talk to him because we still have 17 episodes left.
Margarita notices everyone laughing at her at school. Someone [I’m assuming Mr. Suspenders] created a Facebook page about how pathetic she is that her boyfriend left her for someone better than her.
Manuel brings flowers in as a gift for Chivis. Lupita calls to tell her that she’s fine at her old school. Chivis didn’t know either that AJ was going to change her schools. Manuel points out that Stella may be crazy, but AJ is smart and evil which is even worse. She needs to stand up to him because he’s trying to rule her life through her children.
Trini’s friends are of course just as classist as she is. Trini does defend the old barrio, but I still hate her. Especially when Don Benito arrives with flowers and pastries and she treats him like dirt. She makes her friends believe that he’s just a gardener. He pretends to play along but throws down the flowers and box on the table before leaving. Trini actually looks like she regrets treating him that way.
Margarita thinks Angie created the page and shoves her. Angie goes off on her and leaves. Margarita still thinks it was her. Jorge tells her he doesn’t care what she thinks and to stop harassing Angie.
Margarita returns to the bakery. Juanito tries to cheer her up, but mentions Facebook and Jorge, so Margarita gets even more upset. He tells her that her grandfather returned home sad too.
Chivis and AJ fight about him changing Lupita’s school. AJ whips out the photo of her and Manuel kissing and asks if she wants to explain what’s going on.
Manuel goes into his room and is stunned to see a huge passage in the wall between his room and Stella’s, with just a red curtain separating them. He sticks his head through and asks what the hell she has done. She asks if he likes the surprise.
My bad - I think we only have 16 episodes left, not 17. No show on Dec. 23 so the gran final should either be Fri. Jan. 6 or Mon. Jan. 9.
Steve, this show would have been over 50 episodes ago if she would just stand up to him. Not too much longer now, but it is really testing my patience!
J - Thank you for the recap!!! This was a decent watchable episode, if telenovela beanie hats are in place.
I can’t even, anymore, with AJ and Trini. She was just so horrible to Don B. She deserves absolutely NOTHING by the end of this telenovela except a big. fat. anvil.
Why can’t Fat Toad and Trini fall down into one of those famous Florida sinkholes???
Finally, Jorge tells Angie about the Fat Toad’s douchebaggery.
Finally, Angie is starting to see the real person her father is.
Chivis is taking the switching of Lupita’s school much too calmly. That woman needs to go full-on postal with Fat Toad. Hel-lo, Chivis?!?!
It was great to see Angie stand up to – and tell off – Magarita. Magarita definitely needs to go be an antagonista in a narcovela.
SpanProf – I had the same thoughts about Andres going away. Time away will be good for him. Then he can come back and do that whole Officer and a Gentleman final scene with Lucha.
OMG that wall!!! And YES! to the load-bearing wall question. That aside, what contractor would do that without checking with the neighbor first???
Stella = Cray Cray Crazeee
Fat Toad = Evil
Manuel = PapiChulo and awesome father
Chivis = Dimwit at the moment
Re: the monster-size mansion. That thing must be the size of an indoor football arena. A house that echoes from normal conversation is not for moi. Eeeew.
I'll take Chivis' little duplex apartment, anyday, with or without Papichulo next door. That place was warm, inviting, cozy, and felt safe. Well, before the Tanzanian She-Devil moved in this week.
Is there anybody left who can with Trini or the DotU? I'm just saying...
Last night's episode basically pissed me off on three fronts--Benito, albeit perhaps inevitably, being utterly dissed by Trini in public; Andres/Lucia (the only story that kindasorta made sense, but its appearing to torpedo that relationship before it even began all over again...); and best couple Lupita/Pedrito. Silvana still not quite willing to stand up completely to the DotU when for the Lupita thing alone she would have been justified to go completely off on him is just a regular thing at this point. Not even Margarita getting cyberbullied by Benji--c'mon, we all know it's Benji--placed compared to all that, apart from the necessary bit of karma recycling.
That said, if we indeed have only 16 or so episodes left, this has to be the point where things start turning around for folks. Unless they're going full Televisa and saving it all for the last week...
Many thanks, J, for another great recap. I'm so thankful that it was your recap day and not mine. I was so angry at AJ and Trini that I doubt I could have written a coherent sentence. Oh, I so do NOT want Don Benito to wind up with Trini, but I'm almost positive he will. He deserves someone much better than that selfish, self-centerd, bigotted perra. As for AJ, I'm assuming that his fraudulent schemes will eventually cause him to wind up in the carcel. Anything less than that is obscene.
Speaking of selfish and self-centered, that's exactly what I would call Andrés. He seems to give no thought whatsoever to Lucha's wishes or feelings, it's all just me, me, me. She, too, deserves someone MUCH better, but with only 16 episodes to go, someone like that is unlikely to come along.
And then there's Stella. The scene with her and Chivis in the office almost made me throw something at the television. As for the "wall," doris has already pointed out that a contractor wouldn't do such a thing without checking with the neighbor first. But in addition to checking with the neighbor, the contractor would also have had to get permission of the owner. I'm pretty sure neither Chivis nor Manuel owns the house. Indeed, didn't AJ talk to the owner to get permission for Stella to move in?
I too am losing patience with Chivis's inability to deal effectively with either AJ or Stella. And while she may have to overcome 20 years of domination and intimidation to successfully confront AJ, there's no such excuse for her failing to deal with Stella.
ARRGH!
Thanks, J, for another fine, well written recap. You are so right about dragging out Chivis kicking AJ to the curb is about more days to go in the thing.
I’m not wild about Manuel’s behavior toward Stella either. I have a small hope that the hole she had made in his bedroom wall would be the last straw. He needed to completely disengage from her long, long ago, slam the door in her face every time she showed up at his house, grab her by the scruff of the neck and push her out of his office every single time.
And, yes, Trini was HORRIBLE to Don Benito. Just inexcusable behavior. I have an awful suspicion that Trini will end up with that nice man and Stella will end up with Poncho. Neither female deserves anything but a lifetime of loneliness. At least Don B is finally done pursuing Trini, at least as far as I can tell. So I suppose they’re going to go with her having a Road to Damascus epiphany.
And, yes, how in the world does AJ enroll his daughter in a different school without any signature or visit from the child’s mother?
That "hole" in the wall separating Manuel's bedroom from Stella's reminds me of the final scene in that screwball 1940's comedy film "The More the Merrier", where a whole wall is removed, thus uniting the lovebirds. In this case, I hope it will be the final straw and lead Manuel to finally reject Stella.
AJ seems to do whatever he wishes with regards to school choices or duplex leases, because after all, he is a con man and knows how to sweettalk people into going along with him.
Bill C --- is Benji still a thing? Gah..... but I'll bet you're right.
Probably nothing about Chivis will change before the Fat Toad screws with each of his daughters' lives and makes them each so miserable, that all three daughters will be 100% on board with Chivis divorcing and kicking him to the curb. They are his pawns.
Until they reach that point, any one of those girls might still cry for their daddy and their mansion, which guilts Chivis into staying put (and playing into Fat Toad's plans).
Seriously, these people are in Florida. Why can't some random alligator just eat Trini and Fat Toad?!?
Doris, love your alligator idea! I know this is fiction, but I bet we'd have no problem taking up a Caray, Caray collection to buy an alligator.
The hole in the wall makes me think we are in full-blown slapstic, in-decipherable high comedy mode. We're not supposed to ask questions nor dissect it for realism.
Just about everything now makes no sense--except for Majo's dilemma. It seems to me that Vicente, being the mature, respectful, considerate guy he is, would also be careful. He's been around the block with several chavitas--he should know how to play safe. This would be especially true because the first time he and Majo were together he took her to a motel. He had plenty of time to be prepared. OTOH, did he assume Majo had also been around several blocks? Didn't she tell him the first time they "didn't" do it, that she was still a virgin?
Doris--I would be afraid for the alligators. They might get sick.
