Vino el Amor, Lunes 12/26/16 Chapter 39: I Don't Want to Talk to You

David thanked Luciana for coming back to help Bobby. They looked about to kiss when Gracie came in with fake cheer to greet her and thank her for coming to help Bobby. One more gesture of possession and one more mention of “family” later from her and Luciana took her leave. David saw Gracie grin over this as Luciana slipped away. He still didn't seem to get it.

Lillian told Juan she would have a talk with Gracie. He insisted they do it together, aware that they were at cross purposes with her. Juan had threatened to tell David the truth about Josélo and what he was to Gracie, but Lillian put the brakes on that. She didn't want him to make a move rash enough to trash their entire plan.

Gracie asked about what happened with Bobby, pretending concern as usual. David didn't go into detail about the bullying but Gracie asked about the sports shirts (in her usual quest for scoring points over them). David said he gave them out but it didn't help anything. Gracie was hoping that Bobby would trust her more, but no points scored for now.

In the main house kitchen Luciana filled her mother in on why she came back. Marta was upset about this situation for Bobby's sake, wishing that David would allow her to address this with the teachers. Luciana expressed her frustration at not being able to do more, wishing she could deal with those immature brats. Marta said that wasn't the way and that Bobby had a hard time for a while after his mother died. Luciana told her that she understood why she stayed with the Robles family. They hugged and Luciana told her she had to get back to San Francisco and Miguel. Marta asked her whether she was sure she was with him for the right reasons. Luciana told her that she doesn't do things just to do them, that after due consideration she wants to be with Miguel. “Are you sure?” her mother asked. Luciana told her not to worry (which wasn't an answer) and went to the door. Miguel was outside. He had come for her.

David went to Bobby's room, asking him whether he was alright. They boy looked fine except for the black eye and said he was. Luciana made everything alright. David tried to persuade him to confide more in him, but Bobby said he wanted him to be proud of him. He didn't want him to know that the other boys were bullying him. David told him he is always proud of him no matter what, then telling him that he was teased in school as well. The other kids had said he was ugly. [I guess they saw Amigas y Rivales back in the day.] Bobby couldn't quite believe that, but David explained that he just applied himself to studies and exercise to help himself. He told Bobby he was going to talk to the other boys' parents but Bobby didn't like that, saying that this would only make the situation worse. He wasn't sure that Luciana's suggestion would help. “So what advice can I give you to help?” David asked him.

Luciana's knee-jerk reaction was that Miguel didn't trust her to return. He said that it wasn't it; he just felt like a fool waiting for her when he should have brought her. [For those who don't know, Frisco is only about 54 miles away from Sonoma.] He told her she didn't have to do this alone and they should trust each other. Gracie came down the stairs, smug at what she thought she was watching. Luciana said “I see you were having a good time.”
What are you talking about?” she asked.
You know.” She walked out with Miguel.
Bobby told his father that Luciana told him to be brave and not to be afraid. David thought this a good thing, saying that only insecure fools behave like those boys. They hugged on this.

Juan continued working on Perla, saying she had done well with the immigrants. However, she was worried because she knew they had been deported. She was particularly worried about the teen girl because she was particularly sympathetic toward her. Juan didn't seem overly concerned by the situation, saying that eventually this girl would be the same success she was. [Do we feel sorry that Perla doesn't even have a clue what he was really saying there?] Of course he was setting her up to put on the same show, dangling a gift in front of her. A new watch. With promises of more. [And then what?] She put on the watch as he talked about there will be more things like it. She asked if they were going to his place, but he said it would be better to rest. The truth was he saw Gracie approaching. Perla was not pleased to see her, but said nothing as she walked out. He closed the door as Gracie walked in and took the chair in front of the desk. He asked her a leading question about whether she was having a good time with her agent. She countered with a remark about “I didn't know you had such bad taste in women.” [I will not insult cats by describing this as “catty.”]

In the employees' kitchen Luciana and Miguel knew that it was late, too late to go back to San Francisco. He didn't seem upset, saying there will be other opportunities. They had a lot of things to do, a lot of dreams to fulfill on the way to their own vineyard. Susan and Tano came in, so Luciana had to begin explaining their return. Tano suggested they all have a bite to eat and the guys went off to get some wine. When they were out the door Susan asked Luciana how it went. The net of this was that Luciana concluded that the only way she could get David out of her mind would be to leave his estate. Things are too complicated, she said. However, she described seeing Gracie with another man and questioned whether she was truly interested in David. Susan encouraged her to concentrate on being happy with Miguel. They guys came back with wine and distracted them from further discussion of this.

In the main house's kitchen Marta talked with Bobby, assuring him “You have your father, Fernanda, me, and Luciana, and your aunt...” Bobby said he wished things were like they were when his mother was alive. “All my friends have mothers. That's why I want my dad to marry Luciana so she can be my mother.” [Don't worry, kid; I'm sure Hera and Aphrodite are listening to your prayer.] Marta hugged him. He didn't see the concerned look on her face.

Juan got flirtatious with Gracie, who expressed her low opinion of his affair with Perla [the only thing on which we agree with her]. Lillian arrived and jumped right into the interrogation. “What's going on between you and your agent?” she asked.
Nothing,” Gracie said, non-chalantly. However, she did not look Lillian in the eye.
You've said that the only man that matters to you is David,” Lillian said. “..and for him you're prepared to do everything.”
That is true.”
So, therefore, why did you bring your other lover here?”
Josélo isn't my lover.”
Therefore he's something more,” said Juan.
Of course not,” Gracie said.
You're an adult,” said Lillian, “so above all know what you're doing. There could be consequences. You should not have brought him here.”
Josélo won't come back, Mama.”
He better not. Because remember we have a pact. Each of us is to look out for the interests of the others and if you don't you will face the consequences.”

Bobby sensed that Marta was a little weirded out by his wish. She tried to explain to him that one doesn't always get what he wants. “Besides Luciana has a boyfriend.” Of course, the boy was curious and Marta said it was Miguel. He still didn't change his mind. “I know they fight, but I think my dad would be happier with Luciana than without her.”

Miguel was happy to see Tano and Susan back together but told him to be careful because of Mark. Tano said he had a lawyer and not to worry. They had some vino tinto, then Tano and Susan left them alone. Luciana apologized for ruining their weekend. Miguel wasn't angry, but said she had to promise not to allow Bobby or anyone else to come between them. She looked doubtful and he noticed that. When she turned away he asked her. He knew he was an easier choice than David because there was nothing to fight. She told him she would make their relationship a priority.

Gracie realized that her mother and Juan were doubting her. Juan pressed for more information on her relationship with Josélo and she answered that her career depended on that relationship. Lillian wasn't impressed. They asked how much longer she intended to maintain this. She answered that she will get rid of him when he ceases to be useful to her. Juan was slightly alarmed at her tone of voice. Lillian told her she shouldn't think of doing anything foolish. Gracie said easily that she'll merely find other people who are useful to her when the time came. She then feigned boredom and left Juan's office.

Perla showed off her new watch to Carito, saying it was very expensive. [Does she really know that?] She tried to encourage Carito to score some money and run. This sounds like she is trying to involve her in the illegal immigrant scam.

David and César started having their same conversation about Luciana when Gracie entered the office in a dress that did nothing for her. David told her he needed her to accompany him on a business trip for the wine promotion. She was obviously pleased at the prospect, saying she would contact other galleries to repeat the inaugural event. She seemed to be coming on to both of them [I don't think any perversion is past her]. César invited her out to dine with him. She tried to beg off to get her work done, but David encouraged her to go. Trapped, like the rat she is.

Marta saw Luciana and Miguel in the kitchen and was pleased. She wanted them to meet Brian. Luciana was fine with that and Miguel said “It's always good to have friends in the police department. Maybe he can help in the investigation of the ruined wine.”
Luciana raised the issue over the conflict with Lillian about Brian, referring to Lillian as a “witch.” [I think she needs another word that rhymes with that one.] She made it clear that if Lillian gave her any grief she'd deal with it. León came in asking if anyone knew where David bought his clothes. Luciana said she was off to get some work done, Marta went to check up on Bobby, and Miguel was left alone in the kitchen with his coffee mug.

Graciela spoke to Josélo and had to put him off again. He wanted to meet David and she had no wish for that to happen. She asked him whether he'd prefer her to socialize or to paint. “To paint, of course,” he said. That was the answer she was hoping for because it bought her more time. [So she put him off once more, but how many paintings is he expecting?] However, Josélo went on in a way that confirmed he was expecting more from their relationship. Further, he wanted to discuss that in person when he next saw her. He ended the call and she was not happy.

Luciana found a shirtless David breaking some ground and told him she wasn't going back to San Francisco. He was good with that, then told her he was taking a business trip about the wine. Gracie was to accompany him. Luciana was a little bothered by that and David told her he had to maintain distance from her and that was too hard otherwise. “It's too much work to see you with Miguel.” He wasn't sure how long he'd be gone. Luciana was a little put out at the idea that Gracie was of use in this effort, but backed off, saying that she was going back to the house in case she was needed. After she walked off he went back to taking out his frustration on the soil with the pickaxe.

Tano went to the main house to find Fernanda, whom he advised to accept Peter's offer of the trip. One doesn't get those opportunities every day. She told him she intended to go into town and asked if he could take her and they could talk, but he told her he reconciled with Susan and was on his way to see her. She walked off, saying she had already decided to go.

At Juan's apartment he started talking about the next immigrant pep talk and was not happy when Perla asked him if Carito could get involved. He was angry at the possibility she had told her too much, even twisting her arm. She told him she hadn't said anything yet and he calmed down, saying he would think about it.

Gracie was painting in her room, wearing only a man's shirt over her black lace bra and panties. A knock at the door and it was David, wanting to talk about the wine campaign. When he saw she was busy he tried to back off but she led him in, saying she wanted his opinion of her work. He looked somewhat uncomfortable, saying of course he liked her work. He looked at the one that seemed closest to completion, commenting on the color and perspective, then excused himself to leave. Of course, she did her best to get him to stay, but he walked out without divesting himself of any clothes and she hit the palm of her hand with a dry paintbrush.

Fernanda told her two besties she decided to accept Peter's offer. Not that the rest of it mattered, but this was all about making Tano jealous. [I hope one of these girls rats her out.]

Marta came downstairs in the employees' quarters dressed for a date. Luciana and León complimented and encouraged her, telling her that it didn't matter if they liked Brian or not ias long as she was happy when Bobby came in, saying “My aunt is right, you're bad” to Luciana. “You're a liar, you don't want to be my friend,” he said and ran out. Luciana ran out after him. Marta was ready to run out after Luciana but León said “Let's go to the restaurant and enjoy the food. Luciana will fix things with Bobby.”

Gracie was dining with César when Josélo tried calling her. More than once. She became increasingly uncomfortable, especially when César suggested she answer.

Luciana went to the main house to talk to Bobby, who got his attitude from her never having told him she was dating Miguel. He was afraid she would go away and he would be alone because his dad would go back to being depressed again. Bobby was sure that once she married Miguel and had kids she wouldn't have time for him. She told him she wasn't going away. “But my mother did,” he said. “And I don't want to be your friend. Now go because I don't want to talk to you.”
Luciana left him alone without argument. He wasn't crying but didn't look happy.

Marta and León were already at the table when Brian arrived dressed in civilian clothes. They started to talk when his cell began ringing. He tried to ignore it but eventually answered. It was Lillian, with whom he also had a date. She was very peeved.

Where are you? You'd better get here or you can forget everything.”

Oh Wow thank you Urban, so quick and witty as usual.
In the paintingus interruptus scene, I thought it was hilarious the way David kept looking at, Ummm I guess her boobs or maybe tummy in that open shirt. He just had this funny look like this is so wrong...but pretty nice too. Oh the torture.

Bobby is still as adorable as a cute puppy.

Bobby is an adorable kid and thus far the only voice of reason... until he gets manipulated, which he is still not quite old enough to recognize. However, had he been in Gracie's room he probably would have recognized her intent and said something to David. That could be amusing.

Spot on UA and thank you.

"Don't worry, kid; I'm sure Hera and Aphrodite are listening to your prayer."

Perla will pay for her naivete, disproportionately, Carito more so I fear.

Absolutely loved when David told Luciana he was going away, Luciana assumed she would be part of the tour, and David said that position is Graciela's.

I give David some slack. He sees Graciela in panties, bra, waving a paint brush and cooing at him and every time he sees Luciana she is connected by lips to Miguel.

Tano is a joke, I mean this Tano character shouldn't be taken seriously, right?

I don't take Tano seriously either. I think he's looking for a mother figure in Susan and doesn't know it. His parents were divorced when he was a very young child and Ramon doesn't appear to have had a love life since. Not good. At the same time he's too old for FerBrat, who should lose Peter to one of her friends. He's a nice -- and good-looking -- boy and deserves better than FerBrat.

How in bizarro world can Lip Lock Luci be beflubbered when David and Gracie are going on what is for all practical purposes a "platonic" honeymoon? Come on Gracie, you have the looks. Get him away from everyone else in some romantic city, selling (and sampling) his wine. Let there be magic ! If it was good enough for Joselo a few minutes ago, it is good enough for your Bro-in-Low now.

I can't wait for Grrrracie to indelicately let LLLuci know they are not getting seperate rooms, even if it is a lie. Will Luci vent to Charlie Bro..um Miguel about how wrong it seems? Will she go to Susan, who is in her own hell, caught between Karmageddon and Kindergarten?

When NOJuan flew into a rage and grabbed Perla that was her Nth wake up call to Run, Forest Run, and she did not. My little remaining sympathy for her is draining away.

UA: You're awesome!

Kirby: FINALLY Bobby hates Luciana! What took him so long ?

I told y'all that Juan was going to violently rough up Perla, who deserves it!

Tofie: Graciela has big boobs :) Not bad for a psychopath!

Steve re psychopath: Ya wear what you can afford...(to buy)

But I agree it is going to be a living hell for Davied, not tagging that when it is soooo taggable.

Was that Nock-ten your doing, Steve?

Well done, UA. Particularly this sidebar:

"I think [Tano]'s looking for a mother figure in Susan and doesn't know it. His parents were divorced when he was a very young child and Ramon doesn't appear to have had a love life since. Not good. At the same time he's too old for FerBrat, who should lose Peter to one of her friends."

Fernanda's only got one viable character in her age bracket, AFAICT: Peter, her personal Leon. (That said, since she's the only character they've made any kind of point of aging in specifics...wiggle room, show?) And she's the resident ingénue, so she's either got to get someone in the end or become a nun. Tano's more mature than her, but much less than Susan typically is; both relationships are ticking time bombs, and my inner cynic also can't help wondering what happens when Fer turns 18. There's almost zero sex in this show as it is (Perla/Punchable Face, Lilian/Gutierrez)--would they go there with Fer turning in her V-card to someone, most likely an either angsting or drunk Tano?

And it was probably inevitable that Bobby--as precociously involved in his dad's love life as he is, if understandably so--would get to flip out over his current best bud Luciana dating somebody other than his dad. I think I wouldn't mind it as much if it was a little more low-key, but since it's shoved in your face even more than Graciela's boobs in that bra...ouch. Less is more there, IMO.

Perla being manhandled by Juan--again--makes me wonder what her particular Karmageddon will turn out to be. Assuming that at some point Juan and Mark run afoul of El Coyote, will she be collateral damage in some way? Will the show whack Carito (which would figure, since Carito's still on the edge redemption-wise) as a cautionary tale for her?

As for Joselo: I think I speak for us all when I say we're all just waiting for him to either get dumped or get whacked (which would boost Graciela's villainy meter a bit, since Juan and Mark are actively trafficking in people now).

Gracie is keeping Joselo and David apart so that David doesn't know the nature of their relationship and also so that Joselo doesn't seen her intentions regarding David. I give this man points for persistence; this realization on both their parts has to come eventually.

Since David isn't depressed right now and has a best bud to talk to I don't see him getting drunk enough to fall into the trap Gracie is trying to bait for him. As someone else previously pointed out she is too vain to allow herself to get pregnant and has no maternal skills whatsoever. She would certainly have no qualms about faking pregnancy to trick him into marriage.

Thanks for this great recap, Urban. Didn't see the episode, but that screen pic is hilarious. In what universe would anyone think it was ok to have someone (who isn't their significant other) walk around in front of them like that? David is an idiot to not immediately call her out and tell her to put some clothes on. The very least he should have said is that he doesn't think it's ok for her to walk around like that with a young boy, Bobby, in the house.

Graciela isn't stupid. She sees how David reacts to Luciana & Miguel's PDA and it wise not to be in his face.

So Luciana almost cheated on Miguel but for Graciela's ill timed arrival. Luciana is not confused but using the Miguel. I don't think she saw it that way until Bobby pointed out what a relationship with Miguel means.

Thank you, urban. I especially appreciate your detailed recap because I did not see this episode.

Wow, that screencap. Disgracie is certainly proud of her girls. Could she be anymore obvious of trying to seduce DimDave? However, that open shirt is not going to protect that pretty bra and panty from any splashed paint. Did Frieda Kahlo , Mary Cassat, or Georgia OKeefe wear a getup like that to paint?

This whole storyline is getting boring. It just keeps going around and around.

My inner dog says hit it and quit it. Woof !

:-)

Wonder Who the sucker is who bought the girls, as I have seen very few 'girls' stay with their purchaser for long.

David needs to send Gracie packing. Lillian, too. Neither of them bring anything positive with them. Gracie has Black Widow potential and not just because Lillian is a likely one, something we still need to find out about.

I think Luciana is sincerely trying to make a go of it with Miguel. He's has all the right qualities and no baggage. If he has parents in El Salvador they'd love her, Marta and Leon love Miguel, and Marcos would have approved of him. She has no malice in her about this. David has too much baggage: He isn't entirely over Lisa yet, FerBrat has a tantrum at any hint of his feelings for Luciana, Gracie won't leave him alone, and Lillian is hanging out on an upper branch like a vulture.

All of this is helping to distract him from the rest of the damage Juan is planning and doing. He should have had him arrested or thrown off the property as soon as Miguel uncovered the pesticide thing.

Bill C: It's not if Jesolo gets whacked, it is WHEN!

I can't see Carito getting whacked, it would lead Leon being stuck with Sonia or someone else.

I guess you can cheat on your partner without malice intent but it's still betrayal. Luciana has made future relationship and business plans and confirmed them again after nearly hooking up with David. She knows this is fakery, all to get David out of her head. Now I'm not questioning her method but she didn't pick just any ole dupe to dupe. Wonder how Miguel would have reacted had he come upon them in an unchaste embrace?

That's not necessarily a minus, IMHO (or at least not until Leon runs out of booze), but it does at least raise the option of it being reversed--Sonia gets whacked to clear the road back to Carito. Not that she's done anything worth death either, but there has to be some sort of goofy collateral damage death coming at some point since she's one of the few characters who's Super Villain Team-adjacent...right?

" He should have had him arrested or thrown off the property ", I agree Urban Ant.

Not to be a spoilsport, but without his kind of stupidity we would not even have TNs.

:-)

Isn't Joselo bankrolling Grace (and therefor David and the vineyard)?

Yep, Joselo is bankrolling Graciela and she's gone back for more to buy her way into a full partnership with David but he cut her off. He wants more paintings from her in exchange and now a formal relationship.

Urban, thanks for your recap. This show is testing my patience with what seems to me to be dull and boring plot development. Thanks to recaps like this, I can check to see if the actual episode is worth seeing. I remain hopeful this show will start moving forward soon.

Pitch perfect title UA. Engrossing, well written summary as always.

My many favorites included "[I will not insult cats by describing this as “catty.”], "[Don't worry, kid; I'm sure Hera and Aphrodite are listening to your prayer" and "Trapped, like the rat she is". Witty all.

"He told Bobby he was going to talk to the other boys' parents but Bobby didn't like that, saying that this would only make the situation worse. He wasn't sure that Luciana's suggestion would help. “So what advice can I give you to help?” David asked him". Child bullies grow up to be adult bullies. But I do believe some children aren't inclined to be bullies, but that they feel pressured to be part of the clique and do so although their hearts aren't in it. I think David should call their parents. I'd love to hear from Susanlynn from a teacher's perspective and those who may have had children in this situation. How does this get resolved?

"he walked out without divesting himself of any clothes" had me smiling away. I do think David was very unsettled though and is frustratingly clueless about Graciela's intention.

“I know they fight, but I think my dad would be happier with Luciana than without her.” From the mouth of babes...I'm getting impatient now for something to happen that brings David and Luci together. Enough with this way too drawn out plot line. Admittedly, Luci came very close to leaning in for that kiss. "Wonder how Miguel would have reacted had he come upon them in an unchaste embrace?" - I think he would have been angry tofie. And I couldn't blame him a bit. Luci went away with him and he has no idea of the David induced thoughts swirling in her head.

"[So she put him off once more, but how many paintings is he expecting?]" Josélo is too gullible and too patient. Are no bells going off that something is wrong??

UA, this was incredible. thank you.

Diana

Thanks, Urban.

I surfed in and out last night but did catch David's shirtless scene and Graciela's Wonderbra scene. Fine specimens of anatomy, but ho-hum on the action. I give Graciela points for not getting a spec of paint on her shirt or skin though.

Graciela could take a long steamy shower and David accidently walks in her room as she bares it all.

I don't see him falling for that. It's also too cliche.

What I could see, but is unlikely to actually happen: Lillian -- knowing that Gracie is planning to rope David in -- cooperating with that plan with the goal of offing David after the wedding but before he has a chance to write his will. California may be one of those states that would award the estate to a widow/er by default if there is no will in view of it being a community property state and both children are still minors. This is also where Juan would dump Perla like a hot potato to go after Gracie.

Excellent job, as usual, Urban. You always do a wonderful job and just after the holidays, it's so hard to get moving again, but you certainly are dedicated. I think I had missed the part where David entered Gracie's room and she was wearing nothing but a bra and a very opened men's dress shirt, showing all her "wares". We already know why she doesn't mind him seeing her like that, but I was thinking that David had more scruples and intelligence than that.

The other part that got to me was Juan grabbing Perla's arm and physically hurting her. She is so desperate to keep him that she will put up with all this abusive behavior from him just because she thinks he's rescuing her from her situation. Perla is so naive that she allows herself to be manipulated.

Cynthia:

Bold Prediction: Perla will get whacked (either strangled or butchered).

Good recap Urban. " perla showed off her new watch to carita, its very expensive". He
Could have bought a cheap watch, she wouldn't have been able to tell the difference. That Watch I bought from walmart looks like I doled out the big bucks for it, $7.88, and it's
Just as rich lookin as those overpriced ones
Its probably fashioned after. If perla were to
See it she'd think it was "expensive". Poor lil
Airhead. I hope she get some smarts soon. Her life Will depend on it.
sl
Jaun is slimy. I wouldn't put it past him to sell perla into sex slavery to get money. I can
Feel sorry for her, but then she gets her nose
Up in the air when it comes to luciana.

This situation with david, miguel, lucy & graci
Is getting kinda boring. I wish they'd move it farward, or let them get a good kiss in before he leaves. Whatever.

I don't like the gut man, hes actin like a wuss. He Had more fire in him when he was bullyin
Lucy and her dad all those years ago. I think
Hes playin both those ladys just to get in lils
Pants, and hopeing to have marta as a his
Proper lady friend. Whatever to them too.

Miguel has maybe met his distraction from
Lucy. And she seems like a nice girl. We'll see. I don't like her daddy, hes to into lillian. Thats never good.

Thank you Urban.
