Pardon me for jumping the gun, but...are your frigging kidding me?!! Did Chivis just spend a good chunk of this episode arguing AGAINST getting a divorce with AJ, who's the one who suggested it?! I'm speechless. I need someone to explain her thought process to me.
Vivi, I don't think we have any psychiatrists among the Silvana watchers here on CarayCaray. I doubt anyone else would be able to explain Chivis' behavior. :-)
Hi I speak no spanish but I am hooked to this telenovela and have been relying on the recaps on this blog. Thank you so much to everyone for the recaps.
I was wondering if there is anyway to watch the TN with eng sub. The one posted on the Telemundo channel is only the first 1/3 of the whole episode. I dont have an actual TV (college student) but I have an xfinityoncampus account and hulu but neither offer the eng subtitles.
Thanks again for the recaps.
This will be brief. I had book club tonight. Please add lots! I thought this was a very enjoyable episode and wish I had time to do it justice.
Chivis and Manuel both remember the hotel in Key West where they slept together, but only slept.
The boys wish their sister goodbye as she gets ready to leave for the airport.
The Stooges get ready to leave for Las Vegas. Nevada will never be the same!
A week later…
It seems Vicente did well in something in school. Couldn’t really understand what…too vague.
We are treated to the very best Three Stooges scene of the whole novela. Vicente and Manuel are watching a YouTube they sent from a wedding chapel. They are lip synching (I think) a do-wop song. Stella has on a blonde wig and a Marilyn white dress. Poncho has on a Brando leather jacket and, I think, a D-A hairdo. [Some of you will remember D-A boys hair style, I believe.] Dom has on the full Elvis: black wig, sideburns, and the white satin, sequined jumpsuit.
Angie arrives at Casa Gallardo. Apparently everyone’s test results are online. Angie got the highest score in the state. She tells Jorge she wants to be a teacher.
Rocío is still in Miami. She still hasn’t met Trini, lucky woman. DB wants her to get her husband to come and have them work in the business. She says she’s separated. Margarita got a very good test score and wants to study engineering.
Angie comes home and her family has a cake and a celebration. When Angie speaks of being a teacher, Trini faints…twice! AJ shows up with flowers and says he’s SO proud of Angie.
Manuel is depressed. He decides he wants to stay home and apapachar (spoil, indulge) his children. He does talk with Vicente about his misery over losing Chivis.
The Stooges return to the terminal with gifts for all, metal buckets with Las Vegas pictures on them. Stella has worn a wedding gown and veil to work. She can’t stand the smell of fish and is probably pregnant.
As a sign of his partial redemption, AJ has a different haircut or part in his hair, not sure which. He says he’s got his house ready for the girls to visit and he’s bought Lupita a cat, even though he’s allergic. He tells Chivis he wants them to get a divorce. He says over and over that he wants her to be happy with Manuel. It’s a really good scene. But she keeps resisting!
At a celebration of Angie’s best score in the state, she gets a celebration from the Superintendent of Schools. She’s photographed like she just won an Oscar. She makes a heart warming speech about the value of teachers.
Thanks so much, novelera. Yes, it was nice seeing all the youngsters celebrating their good grades (Vicente) and SAT scores. And the Gallardo family is always fun to watch when they're all together. Loved that Manuel wanted to spend a day just apapachando with his boys. Apapachar is one of my favorite Spanish verbs/words. :)
I'm just going to pretend that Angie, Jorge and Marg are high school juniors so that the SAT scores at the end of the school year makes sense. If the writers could shave two years off Majo's age, then I can shave a year off everyone else. Two episodes to go and Majo is still a lazy freeloader with no ambition. Well, I guess Vicente knows exactly what he's getting.
And again, I just don't understand Chivis and why she was giving AJ pushback on the divorce. I can't believe that after all this, HE'S going to be the one to file for divorce. This just makes Chivis look pathetic. Passive right until the bitter end.
Many thanks, novelera, for putting together a very fine recap even though you had your book club meeting the same night. That's more effort and devotion than this novela merits, I think.
I agree that the Las Vegas scene was the Three Stooges' best ever. Indeed, I probably enjoyed it more than any anyone else's scene in this episode. Trini disgusts me. With two episodes to go, there's no way I can see justification for her being redeemed and having a Happily Ever After ending. Indeed, the more I think about it, the more convinced I am that wittingly or unwittingly, she drove her husband to an early death. If I have to see much more of her, my health might be affected as well. :-)
I don't understand the business with the SAT scores, i that's what they are. For one thing, since Angie and Jorge are in their senior year of high school, they should have taken that test at the end of their junior year and/or at the beginning of their senior year, not when they're about to graduate. They should also have applied to colleges long before now and have received notice of their acceptance or rejection. Moreover, it looked as if the test scores were not only online, but in an open site that anyone could access. Um, whatever happened to privacy??
I was surprised to see that Angie was one of a number of students who received a certificate at the ceremony. So all these students received the highest score? If so, why was she the only one to speak at the ceremony? Oh well, Telemundo knows nothing about the American legal system, so why should I expect that they know how the schools work?
The scene between Chivis and AJ didn't work for me. Neither one of them seemed believable. I could perhaps imagine that after many months of gradual recognition, AJ would come to the position he expressed last night. But after months of ugly intransigence, all it took was a brief talk with el pescadero and BOOM! AJ sees the light. Frankly, I think it's far more likely that he knows he's about to go to prison, and he cares enough for Chivis to recognize that under those circumstances, he shouldn't stand in her way. I expect/hope we'll see him heading off to prison before the novela ends.
As for Chivis' resistance to divorcing AJ...I can only quote Vivi's eloquent comment at the start: "are you frigging kidding me?!!"
Again, why is AJ doing things like renting an expensive apartment and buying a cat? Did he cancel the Dubai trip? What about his legal problems? How does he support himself? All that gets glossed over, and only two more episodes to explain it all.
Perhaps Chivis will have her epiphany 30 seconds before we see the words "El Fin" on Monday.
In the scene in the auditorium where Angie was being recognized and AJ was in the rear of the audience and behind a glass window, I fully expected to see him being led away by police in handcuffs. But that didn't happen. Are the Silvana writers setting him up for a personality rehab?
Gobluefan: I'm with you on AJ: he sure loves renting expensive apartments, etc.,
Chivis better GET OFF her expletive & admit her feelings to Manuel.
Juanita: We're finally at the end of this nightmare TN :)
LA DONA
Tatiana: The cover-up conspiracy continues in regards to Lidya's accident.
Yesenia is very brave standing up to AG. She should know because she's the one, who created the monster in the first place!
La Doña:
AG, who’s been having her henchman follow Yesenia and knows Yesenia just got evicted because she can’t pay the rent, offers Yesenia a deal. A fat check, in exchange for Lazaro’s location. Yesenia’s obviously tempted, but says she doesn’t want the money for herself—she’s there for Lazaro. AG plays along, and writes a big check, in Lazaro’s name. While she’s there, Yesenia hears Isabel arguing with Regina about the accident, and now she knows it was the teens who were behind it. She rightly points out to AG that she’s creating her own band of Monkeys with the teens (including her niece)- turning them in callous people who don’t care about taking other people’s lives. AG refuses to accept this.
AG has her henchman follow Yesenia, knowing she’s going to Lazaro. She tells the henchie to eliminate them both once he’s found them. He follows her all the way to Laz’s door, and eavesdrops on Yesenia talking to Monica. He reports to AG on where they are, but she only wants to hear back when he’s located/seen/heard/eliminated Lazaro. Monica insists that Yesenia come stay with them—more room now since Lydia will be in the hospital for a while. Yesenia resists, but Monica tells her to think about.
Monica leaves to sell sandwiches. Yesenia goes into the bedroom to sleeping Lazaro, and seems to have come up with a solution that works for both her selfish needs and helps Laz. She comes on to Laz, and pretends she has more than friendly feelings for him and wants to make a family with him and Monica. She kisses him. He’s taken aback, and accuses her rightly of trying to seduce him in order to get a cut of the money he’s expecting from AG. She plays that she’s offended, and says she’ll go right now to AG to get his money (she already has it tucked away), and leaves.
Henchie stops the young guy who lives in the vecinidad (forgot his name), trying to pump him for info on whether there’s an invalid who lives there. Jaime shows up, knows the guy is AG’s man, and calls for all the neighbors to help scare the guy off. Henchie pulls his gun on them, but once he sees he’s way outnumbered, he runs away.
In other news:
-Young guy from vecinidad tells Gabino to give it up, since Moncia doesn’t feel the same way about him.
-Rafael, Leticia and Brau take Emiliano to the police station to make his statement. They request Gabino specifically-- they know he’ll be easy to buy off, since he never made an official report about the accident. They’re right. Gabino accepts the fat wad of cash in exchange for testifying Emi didn’t run a red light, and it was all Lydia’s fault for jaywalking. They assure him the other witness, Diego, will say the same. What about Saul? He’ll be the only one telling the true version of the story and won’t be believed. (Aren’t they forgetting about Margarita?)
-Saul goes to AG, loaded for bear about her helping her friends hide their crime. She says they are at the police station right now, Emi is turning himself in, and SHE’S the one who advised them to do so. She makes Saul feel guilty about mistrusting her again. He falls for it. Heavy breathing, caresses, and kisses, but AG sends him away.
thanks so much Vivi!
the guy from the tenements is Jorge, who is in and out of those scenes, not quite sure what his place is in this story but he's already blown it with Margarita by hitting on her.
the henchman is Matamoros, AG's driver and body guard, I thought for sure he would reveal to AG that Monica was the one possibly living with Laz.
Yesenia sure showed her true colors, trying to be noble and do the right thing but the amount of that check seemed to have put her back on track to living a life of luxury, (but wait, didn't she get a check from Regina made out to Laz where she kept the money or did Regina back down and give her cash), of course AG's plan is that neither lives to spend it, and her discussion with AG reminded us that Yesenia knows all about the Monkeys, and good point she made that AG is creating a whole new generation of them.
Rafael sure had Gabino pegged right, catching that he didn't file a report, and had no problem taking over the police station (he even left Leticia alone to keep the police chief occupied), and once again we see Gabino's street savvy in hedging on the deal till he could see all the angles.
AG is a master at manipulating men, she hides her feelings for Saul even from herself sometimes.
ah and dr. Adolfo gave Monica a soft version of Lydia to get her to go home and rest, truth is Lydia is on death's doorstep, (and what happened to that wad of cash Monica is walking around with)
welcome Tatiana!
I think there are quite a few people that would like to see Telemundo restore the english captions to their website.
You might want to voice your concerns here,
Captioning@telemundo.com
Deb- I'm holding out hope that Lydia will recover. It would just be so unfair for her to die.
Vivi- I'm really liking how Diego is hovering about and watching over Lydia, this may tip the scales.
Many thanks, Vivi, for the helpful recap and to deb, for all the added information. I confess that I was somewhat disappointed when Yesenia came on to Lázaro. Her mercenary motives were so clear that even Lázaro saw what she was up to. I've been a fan of Yesenia from pretty early on, and I loved her telling AG that by helping Emiiliano et al. get away with the car "accident" AG was creating a new set of callous Monkeys. But Yesenia's behavior with Lázaro makes me wonder whether I should cancel my fan club membership. I guess I'll wait and see how she handles the check.
I'm wondering how Mónica will respond to AG's job offer. Mónica alluded to the possibility of a new job when talking to Yesenia, I think, but she made it seem wholly hypothetical. If Mónica turns AG's offer down, I don't think AG will take her refusal kindly, to put it mildly.
I'm expecting to recap one episode of La Doña per week now that Silvana is ending. Normally, I'd like to do Tuesdays, but I won't be able to recap this coming Tuesday, since I won't be home that evening. So for next week, I'd like to recap Wednesday's episode (though other days are possible), and then go back to Tuesdays.
I think it would be great if we could arrange a recap schedule that would cover each of the five days. Except for next week, I could do Tuesdays. Who else is willing to volunteer, and for what day(s)?
Thanks Ms. ViVi,
Awesome summery, oh yes ! Saul can't think beyond his jawn!
La dona is playing everybody ,and that was a cool dopefiend move , with Yesinia.
But I am still team Auntie Yesinia, because despite the play for Lararo,
[ he is ready for a play] she still is the coolest character in this story, without her this show is boring!! she keep sh*t jumping!!!
the General mentions Francisco??! who dat! another monkee!!
love this site!!
Juanita- I'm so glad you'll be recapping this show! I'm not sure if I'm ready to commit since I'm the captain of the El Color de la Pasion recapping team-- recapping on Mondays and pinch-hitting whenever a team member needs a sub. Fridays are slow at the office, so the last two weeks I've found myself just whipping out a brief recap from memory of the Thurs episode of La Dona. Definitely, if I keep recapping this show, it would be the Thurs or Friday episode, in much the style of the one today.
Juanita- Seemed to me that Monica is leaning towards accepting AG's job offer because, as she said, they'll need more money for Lydia. But Lazaro would NEVER accept that, so I don't know how she's going to get around him.
Vivi: I'm betting Monica accepts the job offer.
Halimacandy: You're right about Francisco being the 5th Monkey, but what's his profession: Medical doctor, law enforcement officer, powerful politico, etc., ?
I believe everyone on here knows Lydia is likely a goner at this point. I'm wondering how long before Diego opens his big mouth to any of her friends ?
Vivi: I'm predicting that Magarita will NOT be among the living either since AG & her cronies will come after her.
Saul: This guy needs to watch his back because AG's cronies are going after Saul's parents again.
Question: when the henchman saw Monica when he followed Lydia, did he mention her to AG?
Thanks.
Tatiana- No, Matamoros didn't get the chance to tell AG who the girl was who was with Yesenia.
Tatiana- I believe Matamoros told AG it was a young lady he heard talking to Yesenia but he didn't get a look at her.
ahh the Colonel, I didn't get this till the end, but the truck stopped mid way in that field where they put that box on when he wasn't around, and he thought they were smuggling rosewood, an endangered species, and just like AG said, drugs were his vice and she would use drugs to bring him down, and she wanted the look on his face when he figured it out.
Lots of filler and flashbacks so this will be brief. Feel free to add more if I missed anything important. I was barely paying attention to this episode because I was so bored with the flashbacks.
Poncho and Dom wait anxiously for Stella to take a pregnancy test. It’s positive. Poncho holds the test a little too close to his face, prompting Dom to tell him the part Stella peed on is almost touching him. LOL
The Three Stooges take the Virgencita statue and put it on a boat and go around the harbor.
Trini meets Rocio. Don Benito says he has a surprise for Trini. He’s renamed the bakery Trini & Benito’s Panadería. Trini seems a bit disappointed. She finally relents and says she likes it. Don Benito wants to steal a kiss. She makes Rocio and Margarita turn around and gives him a huge kiss that makes him faint.
The Three Stooges talk about what names they will choose for the baby. Stella thinks she should be the one to decide. She wants to name the baby Estellita Jr or Pepino.
Manuel is on the balcony at night. He remembers the first time Chivis called him mi amor and other times they were embracing in the office. Suddenly Chivis appears on the other balcony. Buenas noches, Manuel, she says smiling at him.
Long balcony scenes where they reminisce and flirt. Chivis finally asks Manuel to be her boyfriend again. They both go inside and meet in his room (the hole and curtain are still there). They kiss.
AJ remembers his conversations with Chivis in way too many flashbacks and takes off his wedding ring. Lupita calls him. He seems slightly cheered up.
Chivis finally comes home to a worried Angie and Majo, who hadn’t heard from her since she went to talk to their dad in the morning. She asks them and Trini to sit down so they can talk. Chivis announces that she and AJ are getting a divorce and it was AJ’s idea.
At the same time, Manuel is at the dinner table with his three boys. Both Chivis and Manuel tell their kids (minus Lupita and Lucha) that they are novios again. Everyone is happy, even Trini and Majo.
Thanks so much, J. This recap was perfect. I was right there with you complaining about all the LONG flashbacks. Ya, basta! Penultimate episode should not be filled with filler and flashbacks.
It was lovely seeing Chivis and Manuel together again, and really the two have great chemistry. I just couldn't help but be mad that the writers were so stingy with these moments between our main couple throughout the series, and that they are now only together because her lout of a husband finally decided that HE is ok with her moving on. What is the message to the women in the audience stuck in awful marriages with awful men? Stick to it, until HE tells you it's ok to move on? Blech!
I was happy that Trini got on with Rocio so well, even wanting to call her the old fashioned nickname, Chio (Marg pointed out that Ro is much more modern). But she nearly messed it all up with her stuck up reaction to Benito adding her name to the bakery. A HUGE gesture for a woman who'll barely let him kiss her.
I don't have high hopes for the finale, other than filler with all the happy couples. That's nice and all, but are they just going to let AJ walk? What a letdown.
Helen
Thanks again to all the recappers who have endured this snooze-fest of a telenovela for all these weeks (months? ...Years?!)
What a let down it has been.
We again see Rafael thanks Gabino for saving Emiliano from having to pay for an immature error. Gabino sucks up to Rafael et al. Gabino's boss comes in and also makes nice to everyone. Rafael recommends that the boss give Gabino a promotion. The boss says he's been thinking about doing so.
Saúl comes along just as everyone is smiling and shaking hands as they leave the police station. "What's the celebration?" Saúl wants to know. Rafael says his son came to take responsibility. "So why is he still on the street?" asks Saúl. Saúl looks at Gabino and asks why he hasn't arrested Emiliano.
Regina and AG are arguing. AG tells her not to warn Yesenia that AG knows she was in the neighborhood. AG reminds Regina of all that she (AG) has done for her. Regina says she knows, and she's grateful, but she can no longer live here with AG.
Saúl continues to argue. Braulio tells him Emiliano is free for lack of proof. Saúl says angrily that because of Emiliano, a young woman may die in the hospital at any moment, and you let him go free?
Diego enters the hospital room where Lydia is lying in a coma. He says he doesn't know if she is listening or if she remembers him, but he asks her forgiveness for what happened. He says he didn't run her over, but he had to lie to save his friend. "But who is saving you?" he asks. Now he understands why people say that the rich have power over the poor, but he's not like them. "If one day you recover, I swear I'll show you who I am." He says he wants to see her eyes again. Lydia lies there not moving.
Margarita and Mónica talk on the street. Margarita observes that even though Saúl is not in love with Mónica, it's obvious that Mónica adores him.
Saúl is still arguing outside the police station. He tells Rafael et al. that anyone can have an accident, but to leave a wounded woman abandoned on the street is a crime. Threats are exchanged, and Rafael and his group leave. Saúl turns to Gabino and his boss and accuses them of letting a criminal escape. He demands as Lydia's lawyer that they show him Emiliano's declaration. Gabino's boss tells Gabino to let Saúl see the declaration.
Braulio receives a call letting him know that the Colonel (Céspedes) is handing over the money. We see him give the money to someone who is standing with others by the side of a large red truck. Braulio tells the caller to take photos of the exchange and be sure they show the Colonel's face, so there's no doubt about who is doing dirty business with the head of the mafia. We see the guy take lots of photos.
Saúl reads the declaration and tells Gabino that it's all a lie. Gabino denies this and maintains that Lydia was responsible for the accident; she was distracted and didn't realize that the cars had a green light. Saúl finally asks Gabino how much he was paid to lie. He tells Gabino that what he's doing is a crime, and he'll pay.
Mónica tells Margarita that Yesenia had warned her about Gabino, that the cards had told her he wasn't to be trusted. Mónica said that at first she thought Gabino was a good person. "But then you saw his dark side, right?" asks Margarita. "Yes," says Mónica, [PSA alert] "he's one of those people who don't understand that no means no." [end of alert] Mónica also admits that she has tried to block her feelings for Saúl, but she can't. She says he's the perfect man. She lists all his wonderful qualities and admits that she's in love with him.
Saúl continues arguing with Gabino and finally tells him that like it or not, Gabino now has to take Saúl's declaration.
More photos of the Colonel, this time waving goodbye to the truck.
Felipe meets with Gustavo, a journalist he feels is honest. Gustavo says that Felipe must really be desperate if he's seeking his help. Felipe says he'd like Gustavo to help him reveal a secret of AG that he discovered recently. About 20 or so years ago, AG was married to Lázaro Hernandez; she robbed him of his business, stripped him of everything, and left him in ruins.
Yesenia tells her neighbor (who I think is storing Yesenia's belonging) that if the neighbor sees anything she'd like to keep, just say so. Yesenia tells her that soon she is going to have enough money to buy all new things.
Diego comes to see Isabela. He tells her he has seen Lydia but he doesn't know whether she will recover. He says he's concerned for Isabela, that if Lydia dies, Isabela will wind up paying for it. She hugs him. He looks uncomfortable.
Regina comes to see Felipe. She says she feels he's the only person she can talk to. He senses that her problems are with her sister. She replies, "She's not a sister, she's a dictator. She wants to rule my life, Isabela's life, everyone around us." He makes an affectionate move, but she says not now. She wants him to help her understand what she has done wrong with Isabela, who has changed a lot. "How did I fail as a mother?"
The flunky whom AG sent to follow Yesenia [Matamora?] tells AG that Saúl's father recognized him, and so he couldn't carry out his assignment (to find someone in a wheelchair). AG tells him that he shouldn't have let Jaime see him. Jaime and his people will again be against her. She asks Matamora if he learned anything before Jaime came along. He tells her he overheard Yesenia talking to a young woman, but he doesn't know who. AG thinks Jaime will again start a war against her. She says she doesn't want a war, but if one comes, they'll have to deal with her.
We see the red truck stop. The Colonel is not present. Several men quickly load three large cartons into the back, and the truck departs.
Felipe assures Regina that she's a great mother. She replies, "A great mother instills values into her daughter." She tells Felipe that Isabela was involved in an accident, and she did nothing to help the person who was hurt. Instead, she left her in the street and escaped with the driver.
Mónica and Margarita come upon Saúl, Azucena, and a neighbor [Magdalena?] talking in the hospital about what Gabino did. Saúl tells Mónica that Gabino sold out to the Cabrals. Gabino said that Lydia was responsible for the accident. Margarita tells Saúl about Mónica's encounter with Gabino where she had to defend herself with a broken bottle. While they're talking, Azucena gets another phone call from Ximena. She leaves the room and tells Ximena that Saúl and AG are no longer together, but if Ximena doesn't come back very soon, there's someone else who can take Saúl from her [Mónica].
Yesenia comes to see Lázaro. She gives him AG's check in his name. He's surprised and delighted. Yesenia plays him and succeeds in getting him to ask her not to leave. He's clearly falling for her. I think she's still toying with him, hoping to get some of the money for herself.
The red truck draws up to where the Colonel and his men are waiting. Watching from a distance, Braulio is reporting back to AG: "We have Céspedes just where we want him."
Yesenia continues to use her wiles on Lázaro. Indeed, scenes between the two of them are interspersed with just about every other scene mentioned from now on. I'll omit most of them.
Braulio asks AG what happens if things go bad and Céspedes rats them out. AG assures Braulio that Céspedes won't do this, he has kept too many secrets in his life. Moreover, he's a strategist, and he knows that things will go better for him if he says nothing. She asks Braulio to keep her informed about every detail in the Colonel's face when things go down.
Felipe tells Regina he never felt for AG what he feels for her. Regina tells him she's not ready for a relationship with him, and she's worried about Isabela. Felipe tells her he understands her worry about Isabela. He advises her to take control of Isabela's life and not let AG continue to be an influence, she sets a bad example.
Still at the hospital, Saúl tells Mónica and the others that Gabino sold out and dared to say so to Saúl's face. Saúl insists that AG should not be blamed for what has happened.
We see several scenes with AG down in her witch's cellar performing various creepy rites, asking her dead parents and novio to help her get justice today.
Céspedes gets a call from Braulio telling him that AG wants him--not his subordinates--to check the contents of the truck. That's why she's paying him the big bucks. Céspedes assures her that he'll take care of it himself.
More with Yesenia and Lázaro. I find these scenes too painful to describe in detail. He does ask one more time whether she's making nice to him to get the money AG gave him. She denies it. She expresses her concern for Mónica. I'd like to believe that at least part of what she says is sincere.
Felipe continues to make a play for Regina. He tells her he's not after sex, he wants her to live with him. Regina says she doesn't want the war between him and AG to continue. He asks that they no longer mention AG.
An army vehicle drives up to where the Colonel and his men are about to unload (?) the goods from the truck. A Capitan Vargas tells the Colonel that he, Vargas, is in charge. Céspedes points out that he's Vargas' superior. Yes, says Vargas, but the orders came from higher up. "We've been following the truck all day, and you gave the order to permit it to pass with illegal merchandise." Vargas orders his men to inspect the merchandise, and they discover a huge quantity of drugs.
Braulio reports that Céspedes is pale and seemingly unable to speak. AG tells him that the Colonel knows that if he says a single word, it will be much worse for him.
Capitan Vargas orders Céspedes arrested. Someone holds what looks like a miniature recorder while Vargas asks the Colonel, "Since when have you been dealing with the mafia? What cartel do you belong to?"
Yes, well, clearly I've lost my mind. I had no intention of writing a recap. I was out last night and didn't see the episode until very late. I was surprised at how much I understood. This morning, since no one had posted a recap, I thought I'd give it a shot. I expected it to be very short, but I found once again that it's harder to be concise.
Thanks so much, Juanita! This was fabulous. I agree that those scenes between Laz and Yesenia were painful. But they were also funny, as Yesenia tried to find multiple excuses to NOT have sex with Laz, finally citing that he didn't get an ok from the doctors to engage in such activities. He facial expressions were a hoot.
Hard for me to really feel sympathy for Diego as he spoke to unconscious Lydia, since he's lied to police placing the blame of the accident on her. How does he think he can make up for that, if she survives?
Thanks very much, J, for this and all your other wonderful recaps. I haven't commented until now because I didn't get to see the episode until just a few minutes ago. I strongly agree that there was way too much filler, especially since so many threads have been left unresolved, such as AJ's legal situation and what's happened with Génesis. To be honest, not only could I have done without any of the needless flashbacks, I also could have done with fewer loving kisses between Chivis and Manuel. Maybe I'm just getting old, but as happy as I was at first, after a while it seemed rather repetitive and boring (not to them, but to me).
I also was struck by (and strongly agree with) Vivi's comment: "What is the message to the women in the audience stuck in awful marriages with awful men? Stick to it, until HE tells you it's ok to move on? Blech!" Amen!
Helen, I agree with you about Trini. She's far too despicable a character to have a happily ever after ending. Feh!
Like SpanProf and Vivi, I'll be really unhappy if AJ's swindling goes unpunished (or inadequately punished).
Thanks so much, J. I totally agree that a long recap isn’t required when there’s 30 minutes of flashbacks!
It was, I thought, clever the way the writers reunited Chivis and Manuel. After Jorge said a couple of episodes ago that he thought she’d show up at the front door like Majo in her wedding dress, I was sort of expecting that, and a lengthy apology for making Manuel miserable. But after weeks of balcony brooding, having her appear that way was a nice touch. I agree that the kissing went on a bit too long. Maybe the writers had gotten some feedback from romance-starved viewers and laid it on thick.
I can’t even guess where they’re going with any sort of punishment for AJ. He certainly doesn’t seem to have any worries about it. He managed to not only purchase (or rent) the house the girls grew up in, but to also completely set up a fancy house for himself. And all this without a sign of any honest work. At this point I wouldn’t put it past the writers to just let him go without any resolution of his legal problems.
I thought the alternate scenes of Chivis and Manuel in their separate houses with their separate sets of children talking about being “novios” was kind of cute.
So I can’t say I regret having watched and recapped a share of the episodes. It was sort of like a sorbet between courses. I loved Bajo el Mismo Cielo but it had its share of violence. Other than Génesis’ father showing off a pistol and banging on Stella’s door, I wasn’t exposed to any violence.
And, yes, I also did not like Trini’s reaction to Don Benito putting her name on the bakery sign. She came across as her usual snobby self. DB fainting after the kiss was kind of cute.
Thanks very much, Vivi, for your kind response to the recap. I agree that the scenes between Yesenia and Lázaro were also at times amusing. My problem is that I felt too disappointed in Yesenia and too sympathetic to Lázaro to be able to enjoy those scenes. I had really liked Yesenia and thus hated to see her try to take advantage of him AND seriously hurt his feelings.
You make a good point about Diego. I was heartened, though, by what he said about rich and poor, his feeling bad about lying, and his being upset when Isabela didn't seem to show any interest in how Lydia was doing. I think there's hope for him, as unlikely as that may seem given his parents.
BTW, responding to what you said a day or so ago, I can certainly understand your reluctance to commit to a regular recap, given what you're already doing. But anytime you find yourself able to do one, please don't hesitate. One like the recap you did the other day would be great.
Juanita- Definitely of the rich teenagers, I like Diego the most. I think it's interesting that Isabela seems to have the most callous reaction, even over Emiliano.
I meant to comment on Regina's conversation with Felipe when she mentioned how Isabela's father disappeared on her, even though she thought he was a good guy. She and AG also had a brief convo about him. Anyone else think that AG was the one responsible for making him disappear? Just like she did to Isabela's nice boyfriend, so that she'd start to lose faith in men.
I liked the Manuel/chivis scenes in Friday's episode, you could see the relief on chivis's face when she was showering manuel with kisses. I was also shocked majo didn't throw a tantrum when chivis told them of her relationship with Manuel but i think the cutest part of the episode was when chivis told her family that she felt like an adolescent cuz she was in love with Manuel it was a really cute moment
Olise
wow, what a wonderful recap Juanita! You really put a lot into your recaps and I can really appreciate the time and effort.
I'm liking Diego (who's hair reminds me of Victorino if anyone saw that one) from the day he met Lydia, but he has a real big hill to climb, called Mt. Braulio, I think he has taken up the challenge, I don't fault him for helping his friends, fessing up won't undo what happened to Lydia.
whoa Vivi, I think you nailed it with Regina husband's disappearance, ok, lets make a list of everything good about AG... anyone?
Felipe, who lost everything, seems like he is hitting on Regina, the next in line, I'm not really comfortable with this, but she loves him.
it seems like the Colonel is getting off easy, I don't think AG is done with him yet, at the very least she will make sure that he knows she is that girl he raped.
ah when a car load of cops show up in the middle of the street vendors to shake them down, nice that Monica has a permit and, is exempt ??
they didn't show it very well but Leticia's part was to capture the head cops attention, she was also instrumental in getting everyone out of there before something stupid happened, will she still be a team player when she finds out Rafael was part of a gang that raped and killed.
ah yes, Yesenia, she masterminded Laz's downfall expecting to be on the gravytrain with AG, do we forgive her for that, will we do it a second time, does she even love Monica?
Saul spends his time stepping on toes, I think AG's protection is the only thing keeping him alive, do we really want to see Ximena again?
I think Monica has spent her whole life taking care of her dad, she probably has never had a boyfriend, I think how the english captions put it, she pushes Saul out of her life, but then he does something, that shows her once again, he is the perfect man.
Thank you for such an awesome recap.
I should be already be used to being morally conflicted from watching several telenovelas, but here I am again, morally conflicted cuz I am still rooting for AG. If she really did make Regina's husband disappear just to make her sister stop believing in men....oh god...
Also, I know this is a remake based on Dona Barbara, but from what I read, Barbara was a really really horrible mother to her daughter even on TN standards. Do we know if the writers are trying to change that with AG? They have shown time and time again how "protective" she is of Isabela.
Tatiana: I'm also wondering what happened to Regina's hubby too. Did AG have him whacked ?
Surprised the Colonel was busted very quickly!
Thanks very much, deb and Tatiana, for your appreciative remarks and very interesting comments. deb, I too think Vivi may be on to something re AG's possible role in the disappearance of Regina's husband. And I loved the roaring silence that followed your "ok, lets make a list of everything good about AG... anyone?" Right now, I think I'm taking a more favorable stand than you on Felipe. Yes, I suppose one could say he was trying to hit on Regina, but my feeling is that he's genuinely very fond of her, perhaps because she has always been so supportive of him, and, unlike AG, she's a good person. He convinced me (at least for now) that he's not just hitting on her. As for Yesenia, you've asked the same things I've been thinking, but for now, I'm holding out a tiny bit of hope that she's not just playing Lázaro for the money (though my fear that that's exactly what she's doing made it hard for me to watch the scenes between them). I think she genuinely does like and care about Mónica.
Tatiana, this novela sure does create morally ambiguous characters and situations. I think of my mixed responses to Felipe, Vesenia, and Diego. But I must confess that I don't feel conflicted about AG. She turned me off when she had Guillermo killed, and cruelly killed. I don't need to know more, though there is more. I think she told Matamoros to follow Yesenia until she leads him to Lázaro and then kill both of them. I can understand her passion for vengeance on the Monkeys, but Guillermo? Lázaro? Yesenia? No, in my book, AG is just plain evil.
Juanita- And don't forgot that poor prostitute and Felipe's assistant too. She thinks nothing of taking innocent people's lives, yet, tries to say she's different than the Monkeys. She would have had Isabela's poor boyfriend thrown in jail for drug dealing, had he not finally given in and dumped Isa and left the city. No, I don't feel conflicted about AG either. I'm fine with her taking out the Monkeys. They deserve it. But I also wouldn't shed any tears if any of the people AG has hurt/killed or their family members went after HER to get revenge too.
Vivi, you're right, I'd forgotten about the prostitute and Felipe's assistant. Though somewhere in the back of what's left of my mind, I have a vague recollection of AG's being unhappy that they were killed, that perhaps she only wanted Felipe morally compromised rather than having people killed. Am I remembering incorrectly? [That's more than likely :-) ]
Juanita: Don't forget that AG & her cronies are likely to go after Monica, Margarita, Saul's parents, Saul, etc.,
Let's not forget that if Ximena sets foot back in Mexico, she's going to be in danger too.
Lazaro & Yesenia need to watch their backs!
THANK YOU for summeries,

anyone remember "Pasión prohibida", Rebecca Jones (Yesenia here but Flavia there) was Mónica Spear's (Bianca) mother who convinced her to marry the old guy so they could be comforted by his money.
actually I will always remember Rebecca as the quack plastic surgeon in Senora Acero doing a breast implant with small beach balls.
