Vino el Amor – Episode #53 – Friday 1/13/2017: The Amazing Race—Televisa Style

We revisit Miguel trying to put David in his place regarding Luciana. David imposes his position of superiority telling Miguel that what happens to Luci will always matter to him—as Marta’s daughter and part of the family. He felt guilty for not staying on top of her visa paperwork. Miguel reasserts his position by noting that David’s a little late. Tano and Marta hold him back. Marta assures David they will try again to reach Luciana in the morning. David leaves and Marta gives Miguel a look that would be enough to send a small child to stand in a corner.

Carita and Perla are in the shelter holding all the illegals, arguing in vain with Juan about the sick workers and the need for medical care. They can’t go on dispensing aspirin. He tells them it’ll take a few days to get one here. Meanwhile, they should calm the workers down by telling them a doctor will be coming soon. The girls say it’s a lie and Juan says, yeah, but it buys them time. Carita is worried that one might die on them. Perla and Juan jump on her. Carito asks if there’s any news on the girl that got away. Juan guesses she’s already in the hands of immigration. If she is, Perla thinks it won’t be long before they are all discovered.

Susan and Cesar talk and drink the night away. She’s feeling much better, having a friend to talk to. She’s poured out her troubles regarding Mark and Tano, but she won’t take Cesar’s advice to get a new lawyer for Tano and file charges against Mark for extortion. She then draws Cesar out and he tells Susan about THE KISS during David and Gracie’s wine tour. (Geesh, for heaven’s sakes, they’d been drinking, it was one kiss in a restaurant and no one got any tongue action.) Cesar admits he and Grr-racy didn’t really have anything going on, but he’s hurt and feels deceived by both David and Grr-racy. They discuss the possible reasons for THE KISS, especially when Susan wonders whatever on earth (as she screws up her face) he sees in her, especially when it was known that David had eyes for Luci. Cesar says of course he did-does-did-does-did. Cesar has two theories, either it happened because he was trying to forget Luci or he finally realized he’s had a thing for Grr-racy for a long time. Susan reasons that being on the trip brought them closer together, but still, she thinks it’s strange. Neither believe Cesar and David’s estrangement will last forever. They agree they get along swell and promise to seek each other out if either of them needs anything, anything at all. They give each other a big friendly hug.

Mexico City, D.F. – While the drama in Sonoma continues unabated, Luci and Leo are having the time of their lives. Shopping has worn them out so they are in a bar, having a beer. Luci realizes her cell phone battery is dead and wants to use Leo’s phone to call Miguel and find out if there is any news from Brian. Leo’s battery has run out of juice, too. (Hold on a minute. Neither of them have made any calls all day. Cheap batteries, maybe?) So they turn to conversation. Luci teases Leo about dating Sonia while he doth protest too much that she is only a friend. Luci won’t let up, but finally relents and promises to support him in whatever he decides regarding Sonia. They drink to siblinghood.

DisGraced returns home from elsewhere. She gets a call from Joselo wondering where the heck are the 10 new paintings she promised him. He needs to see something, even if it’s photos. If she doesn’t come through with at least photos, he’ll have to come speak to her in person. She manages to blow him off. She can’t work under pressure, trust her, bye. She throws down the brush she was cleaning in frustration.

Mexico City, D.F. – By Dawn’s Early Light, the sibs still seem to be sightseeing, as surely they weren’t intending to go to church, although that’s where they are when they decide to check their phones. They are loaded with voice mails from home. Luci calls Marta and finds out the appointment at the embassy is in one hour, on the other side of the city. She doesn’t have her documents with her and they have to return to Soledad’s to pick them up first.

Thus begins The Amazing Race Against Time, pt. 1
Luci wants to take a taxi but Leo convinces her to take public transportation

Lilian is enjoying the peace and quiet without Marta’s daughter around. But she scolds Gracie for hanging around with her and not taking advantage of Luciana’s absence to get closer to David and the children. Gracie says David is making it difficult. It’s always about Luciana. They’ve even gotten her an appointment at the embassy. Hmmm, Lilian wonders how that could have happened, although of course she already knows. Lil is having none of this.

The same morning, Carito and Perla are still worrying about the sick workers. Carita is also worried about her cousin. The whole family is worried since he was the most responsible of the lot. Perla says to pray for him. Carito asks Perla to accompany her to check on the workers that night. Perla agrees, as long as Juan doesn’t find out what they are doing.

David is out on the patio enjoying the early morning sunshine looking at something on his tablet when Marta approaches. Everything is fine South of the Border. David tells her the interview is a no-brainer, but Marta is worried because she might get there late and they won’t see her. David has faith she’ll get there. David will make it his business to see that nothing happens to her before her return to her mother’s side. Marta probes a little. He’s doing all this because Luci is her daughter, right? David says yes, and for many other things—things she’s done for him and his family.

Lilian is in a “meeting” with Gutsie in his office. She’s pissed he’s helping Marta with the Luci thing, and sarcastically notes, all for a plate of beans. He swears he’s doing it for David. She doesn’t believe him. His protestations meet deaf ears. (Since the rest of this conversation was in English and we’ve heard it all before, I’ll skip to the part where Lil walks out on him and their relationship.) She says, “I’m tired of dating two-timing Latinos like you,” which was translated as, “No vuelvo a salir con latinos maleducados [crude, ill-bred] como tú.” (I laughed when they translated the Spanish classic, “No soy tu plato de segunda mesa,” as “I’m not your second best.”)

            The Amazing Race, Pt. 2
            They run for a bus

Gutsie doesn’t realize he’s far better off without Lil but he calls his campaign manager and says they may be in trouble with campaign finances.

The Amazing Race, Pt. 3
They run for the right Metro

Susan is dying to tell Luci about something important—THE KISS. She starts over several times then decides to wait. She puts the phone down on the desk.

            The Amazing Race, Pt. 4
They run through a park and catch another bus with only 10 minutes left

Gracie runs into David outside, gets an update on Luci’s progress and reports on the excitement the buyers in Buenos Aires have over the wine. David is pleased. It means they will soon have recovered financially. Gracie wants to know if they can schedule the trip to NYC. David says it will have to be after the harvest. He starts to leave, but Grrr-ace-y calls him back. She wonders if his more serious attitude toward her has anything to do with what she revealed to him. If it makes him uncomfortable, she continues, she doesn’t have to go along on the next trip. David assures her they can both be adults about this. He doesn’t have a problem with doing the trip together.

            The Amazing Race, Pt. 5
They run toward their destination on foot, only 5 minutes late

Lilian is visibly distraught over her breakup and working her way through a bunch of tissues with her tears. Sonia comes in to bring Lil some tea and cookies. She finds her drowning her sorrows over her lost loves. Lil doesn’t want to talk about it. She wants to be a-l-o-n-e. Sonia won’t hear of it. She breaks down Lil’s resistance to talk and draws her out. Bottom line—Lil says she hates it when things get beyond her control. All the men she’s ever been interested in are, wait for it, Latino men, and they all end up falling for Marta. Sonia gets an earful of the sorry story of Lil’s love life.

Sonia assures her that not all Latino men are like that. Lil can’t be convinced. Sonia adds that she shouldn’t be suffering over a man—love can’t be controlled. What Lil can’t stand is stupidity. Can’t Gutsie see she’s much better than Marta---isn’t she? Sonia, the soul of diplomacy tells her she shouldn’t be making comparisons. Lil asks for the cookies, then she asks for wine. Sonia begins to analyze the situation and suggests the problem is not Marta or the men, but—she strings it out carefully—Lilian. She’s the common denominator. Lilian ends the conversation abruptly saying that Marta is going to suffer much more than she is.

Marta and Miguel walk around outside and discuss The Amazing Race. She’s pretty sure they are making a run for it and asks Miguel to hold off making a phone call. While they are at it, Marta asks Miguel to tone it down in his confrontations with David when it’s about Luciana. Miguel says he can’t help it. He gets jealous when he sees them together. Marta reassures him that Luci is with him and cares for him.

            The Amazing Race, Pt. 6
They run the last leg, then Leo lets Luci go in alone while he waits at some distance away

Juan checks on Gracie. He wants to know how it’s going with David. She admits he’s very distant. She wants Juan to think of something that will work in her favor. Juan has his own agenda and doesn’t want to be bothered with hers. While David and Cesar are on the outs, he’ll take the opportunity to get closer to David.

Over at the neighboring vineyard, Santa Barbara (S.B. for short), Erika is working in the office when a staff member comes to tell her about some fellow named Felipe who is very sick. He showed up on his own, not part of the group they have, but he helped out. They leave to see about him.

Carito sees Miguel busy doing wine things inside the bodega and asks if she can bring him something to drink. He declines. She tries again, how about ice cream in town? He declines. She knows he’s missing Luci, but she’s asking as just a friend. Carito isn’t ready to let it go, but Erika interrupts. There’s big trouble at S.B. A worker died. Can he help?

            The Amazing Race, Pt. 7
It’s finished. Luci won the interview. She’ll have to wait 5 days for them to review her case. Her deportation as a child had no effect. Leo is hungry.

Erika doesn’t want to call 911 because the guy was undocumented. Miguel is ready to go with her when Juan shows up to talk wine stuff. He outs Erika as the daughter of the owner of the competition, S.B. vineyards. Miguel is a bit taken aback, but she promises to explain why she didn’t mention it before. They push by Juan and leave for S.B.

Bobby greets his aunt who is out on the terrace painting some landscape that has a big blotch of green on it. Bobby dabs his finger in her green paint and as he swatches the canvas, his whole hand lands on the green. That brings the wrath of a Wicked Witch of the West down on Bobby’s head. Bobby is thunderstruck by her fury. Gracie realizes her faux pas and tones it down and adds sugar and honey to her voice and her words.

Miguel follows Erika into her office. She’s panicked at the thought of the police getting involved because of all the undocumented workers. Mig tells her she needs to be calm. The worker who died wasn’t even an employee, so she shouldn’t worry. They agree to call 911. At the most inopportune time, Luci calls Mig and finds out he’s busy—with Erika. She throws a fit. Mig says he’ll call her later. Luci tells Leo it gets her in a twist because he has to help everybody.

Luci calls Marta to tell her everything went ok at the embassy interview but they have to stay 5 more days.

Erika and Miguel wait for the first responders and a police officer who is also coming. She’s upset with her father who contracted these folks and hadn’t done anything to get them proper papers. Pappi Adolfo walks in just then and father and daughter get into a rather heated argument over the workers and the incident. Adolfo has the last word—she has to learn who is top dog in their vineyard.

Back at El Amor, Carito and Perla discuss Miguel running out to help Erika. Perla learns it was because one of their workers died. Perla wonders if he was one of theirs. Carito tells her to shut up.

Pappi Adolfo and Erika have toned it down a bit and speaking more calmly. Yes, they’ve called 911. Pappi will get his lawyer on it so there won’t be any additional trouble. He urges Erika not to make such major decisions on her own, for her own sake. She promises not to. Adolfo thanks Mig for helping and hopes he won’t get into trouble with David.

Mig offers to call the fellow’s next of kin for Erika. His name was Felipe Gonzalez. He tells Erika he was happy to help her, but now he wants to know why she never identified herself as Don Adolfo’s daughter. Erika is saved by the …police. She’ll talk to Mig later.

Juan follows David into the office with general vineyard chatter, but what he really wants to do is rat on Miguel dealing with the competition. David isn’t having any of it. Miguel is their most loyal employee. Juan persists, planting seeds of doubt in David. Juan doesn’t think Miguel is all that trustworthy. What if he’s mixed up in something shady? David wants to know, like what? Juan can’t answer that one, just juarever. Juan makes sure David knows he’s there to watch David’s back—as always.

I see that TN cell phone batteries are from the same product line as TN bullets, wherein a small handgun typically holds 500 bullets until you really for sure Oh My God need it and then ...Oops..outta bullets.

Thanks, Anita. Great job. The Amazing Race it was. I've never been in Mexico City, but since it's so populous I was expecting more people in the background when Luciana and Leon were running around.

I like Erika, but I'm confused why she went to Miguel for help. What special powers would he have to help with a worker's death? And calling 911 AFTER the death instead of during the illness? Beanie time I guess.

So Juan will somehow set up Miguel for a fall? Will David take the bait?

Yay, Bobby got a taste of the real Graciela. Little boy, hold that memory. Your daddy may need your help to unmask her one day.

On Lillian calling Gut "maleducado," in this context its like "crude" or "ill-bred" since she was trying to slam his roots. I've seen it used to mean simply "rude" too.

I get a kick everytime Carito gets deflated about Miguel. I laughed when he left with Erika and Carito realized she's got yet another rival for him.

Great recap Anita, thanks

"We revisit Miguel trying to put David in his place regarding Luciana"
So what is new and I think David has been more than patient and accepting though he wants Luciana. I keep expecting Miguel to punch him. Now, I have no problem with Miguel standing his ground or defending himself but he see red when David utters Luciana. David, who took him in as a child from El Salvador, taught him everything, fed him, clothed him, educated him, employed him and paid to get his citizenship.

"Cesar says of course he did-does-did-does-did"
You mean the kiss is the most important thing in Susan's messed up life right now? Oh boy, and when she tells Luciana it will be much more damning than Luciana and Miguel's heavy petting that David gets to witness daily.

Erika goes for what she wants, I just don't understand why she wants Miguel.

I wonder if the dead immigrant is Carito's cousin and made it to the wrong vineyard? Thought Carito mentioned it a few times and it wasn't Felipe, was it?

Watching Lilian piled up in bed crying over Brian was so funny.

Gracias, Anita. Good job and good theme for the episode.

I was also wondering whether Felipe was Carito's cousin. That he walked into Adolfo's vineyard on his own and wasn't part of the group of illegals was probably the giveaway.

Luciana being in DF for the next five days is just enough time for major crap to happen back in Sonoma.

What is so special about DisGracie's paintings, anyway? Bobby could paint something far more interesting than the canvas he touched.

Thank you Anita! Very smart using the Amazing Race for a theme. Luci and Leon would be the first team eliminated if it was the real show! I kept thinking, it's good they aren't in DC, we aren't as nice to clueless tourists who run amok, get in the way and don't stand to the right (although we are good about giving directions).

I couldn't figure out at all why previously smart Erika would go to the rival vineyard guy for help (but of course it's Vino el Amor, so it's just their usual plot device). Her dad was actually right, she needed to inform him first.

Susan/Cesar were boring, but in a refreshingly grown-up and adult way - they seem like a good fit.

Carito's face during that whole Erika/Miguel thing was pretty darn funny.

Anita, really good recap. I couldn't help but notice that you posted it at 3:34 am. You must be a night owl. Thanks for making it a really fun read. It was the perfect accompaniment to my morning cup of coffee. I especially enjoyed the amazing race theme. It made the reading more suspenseful by identifying the events as Part 1 et cetera.
Miguel and David flexing muscles over Lucí - wash, rinse, repeat. As for Lillian's funk over breaking up with Brian, there is no chemistry between them thus that whole relationship falls flat as far as I'm concerned so FF>>>

Hi, Anita, and thanks.

I have never been to Mexico City, but my daughter lived in NYC and later in Toronto. When she lived in NYC, Hubba and I used to follow her around tge streets like country mice. Her advice was always to "not look lost or gaze around like a tourist." Yikes. Toronto was very different. If you even appear to be a bit lost, someone asks you if you need directions.

Well, Miguel is accumulating quite a following. Surely, he will end up with Erika and a vineyard. Carito should have appreciated Leon.

I notice that DIsgracie has taken to painting outdoors with her nice clothes on...full makeup...every hair in place.

I don't know if I have ever encountered as bitter and sour woman as Lilian. Who would want to be with her?

Thank you to Anita and all the other recappers. I really enjoy reading the recaps and comments.

I laughed and howled at Soosan's business attire as she was texting Luci about the kiss. Now we know she really must have an interesting closet full of something, or maybe we don't want to know.

Lurking Linda

I don't know if I have ever encountered as bitter and sour woman as Lilian. Who would want to be with her?
Not even her shadow.

Been to Mexico City bunches over decades and the place is huge, like 20+ million huge and the traffic brutal. As with any metropolitan area there are quiet neighborhoods but getting from one end to the other depends on the time of day. Guess it's possible to do it in an hour but only if you knew where you were going, already know what combination of taxi, bus, subway and foot or a driver that knows the way.

One of the wildest dashes I've ever taken as a last resort was an hour on the back of a motorbike, in Bangkok, during a rainy season downpour. I buried my face into the motorbike taxi driver's back and never looked up.

Tofie...Yikes. ..I bet that motorbike ride will be a memory that never dies for you !!!

Is Mexico CIty the biggest metropolitan area in the world ?

Welcome, Lurking LInda !!

Good day, all. I'm refreshed after pulling another almost all-nighter. I was happy the episode had no Mark in it nor another Tano-Susan cry fest. All in all, a good race. RinFL--I'm actually RinMD, so as long as I can sleep it off the next day, I'm fine. Since I watch and recap in real time, I'd rather finish the recap and sleep peacefully than having it hang over my head.

Niecie--Thanks for the correct usage of maleducado. I translated it literally. If you don't mind, I'll change it. It gave me a chuckle, thinking the Spanish toned it down for their audiences, while CC's in English usually tone it down for us, sensitive English-speaking watchers up north.

Susanlynn--Mexico City, as I mentioned, is the 20th largest metropolitan area in the world (well, according to the chart I looked at). Using the World Atlas on line, it is much nearer the top. Mexico City (20,063,000) and NYC (20,630,000). All the cities that are larger are in Asia (Japan, China, Indonesia, India, Philippines, Pakistan, South Korea). Sao Paulo edges out Mexico City by about 300,000.

Lurking Linda--Welcome to our Vineyard patio. Wine is no longer enough to keep us interested in this telenovela, but new voices do. Please keep commenting.

Yes, Gracie always overdresses to fit the occasion. So does Susan. Why not poor Marta. Is she supposed to look frumpy all the time? Lordy, leaving personalities aside, put Lilian and Marta next to each other and ask Shallow Bachelor Gut to choose one, I think he would choose Lilian. Besides, nowadays who wears dresses to work in a kitchen all day, nanny duties included.

Of course, without even blinking twice, Felipe is going to be Carito's cousin. Why else would his name have been mentioned twice in the same episode. Not even the runaway girl had a name. Felipe arrived alone, nobody should have known who he was, but the overseer knew his name. Ach, it's a telenovela. I don't feel like going back to find where Carita mentioned his name to Perla, but it was a long time ago. I think the two of them were walking and talking outside.

As for Erika waiting until he died to go get Miguel. Another twist on the Friday night Light Beanie. I think he was sick and by the time the overseer (or whatever he was) and Erika got to him, he probably died. Then, the normally cool Erika panicked over the other undocumented workers she had. All we can assume is she was also scared to go to Pappi Adolfo. So who else but the strapping, handsome, nearly shirtless dude she met, what twice, could she go to. Certainly not her overseer. How else to get the two of them together in the same place at the same time and start the balls rolling in their direction. I'm good with that.

a decade ago it was close but asia has the largest urban areas now. Tokyo-Yokohama urban area 37 million number one.

Susanlynn, I was sitting side saddle on the back of the motorbike and would occasionally look down at my feet inches away from cars, trucks, vans, buses, people, food carts and other motorbikes as he darted between them at a high speed. I think we came to a full stop once. Soon as I shakily got off and paid him someone else had already hopped on and he sped off.

Most terror filled ride though was a mountainous death spiral decent on a chicken bus, standing room only with locals, in Guatemala. This was really like an old school bus with holes in the floor the exhaust billowed through as the driver accelerated then back off briefly then accelerate again DOWN the mountain, a shear drop on one side and smacking his side mirror on anything coming up the mountain. If he had brakes he didn't use them and it appeared I was the only one frightened.

Note to self: never go to any mountain in or anywhere near Guatemala...

Thanks for the recap, Anita (especially since I came in 1/4 through--but right at the good part, Lilian weeping into her cleavage about Gutierrez and Sonia playing counselor for her). I'm glad I missed the beanie-weakening moment of Luciana and Leon both going "Our cellphones need to be charged...pfft, we'll worry about it later", but the ol' beanie flew the hell off the minute Erika ran to Miguel over the PD about the poor (offscreen?) schmo that died at the S.B. vineyard. That actually made negative sense, in that sledgehammery plot-mandated way.

And I think I'm going to sit at the Felipe-is-Carito's-cousin table with tofie and UA. AFAIK, Carito's cousin has never been named in-show; he's just been "my cousin." And--last I knew, anyway--this is literally the first or second throwaway character this show's actually given a name to. At the very least he has to be connected to someone, even if it's just El Coyote.

Tofie..Yikes..You have had some interesting transportation experiences. Mine have mostly been scary rides in NYC taxis.

I found this quote from SEneca and hope that it applies to LUci : " Travel and change of place impart new vigor to the mind." As I think we all can agree, Luci's mind could use some vigor.

Re Marta's wardrobe, TPTB evidently feel that viewers need a constant reminder via wardrobe of which characters are rich and powerful and which are poor and powerless. Okay, I am going to put on my cocktail dress and paint some pictures , and then, change into an old frock to do the laundry.

I missed some of the dialouge but why would Luci let Leon tell het 2 take public transportation to such an important meeting instead of a cab. He wouldnt know the city. And shouldnt Luci know the city....is that where she and her dad went after deportation?

Nette

I don't think they were in DF, at least not most of the time. Tijuana was the first stop.

As to public transport vs cab, cab drivers are likely to rip people off who don't know where they're going. In NYC the subway is faster than anything else 95% of the time, as buses are just as likely as cabs to get stuck in traffic.

Susanlynn-You always make hay for us even while the sun is down. I can just see you changing frocks depending on who you might run into. And hair, nails and above all gobs of red lipstick. Definitely don't forget the lipstick. Oh, and the high heels. You can still wear those to do laundry, just in case FC or Jamie walk in and want to sweep you off your feet and bed you.

OT...Anita...Wow..Thanks for that mental image..If I get a vote, I choose Red Jamie...Fifty shades of plaid, aye? Re Outlander, they have filmed the print shop scene and will be finishing filming Voyager in South Africa.

I have been watching reruns of Black Sails on STarz in between painting pictures and folding laundry. Have you watched it? the new season starts the end of this month. The guy playing Long JOhn Silver is quite handsome. susanlynn, looking out the window and wondering if Jamie will show up despite the snow ...And how I will explain him to hubba

Thank you Anita! I sure did love your references to "The Amazing Race", you did that so well and you made it sound so interesting and fun. I missed watching pieces of Vino last night, I was busy cooking my dinner, then someone called..etc..

I'm joining the group who suspects that this Felipe who died is actually Carito's cousin. I don't think she has ever said the name of her cousin before, but it sure would fit right in..

Oh I loved how you recapped the part about Lilian crying about the men in her life and Sonia counseling her. "All the men she’s ever been interested in are, wait for it, Latino men, and they all end up falling for Marta." I was laughing at her eating one cookie after another and then going for the wine. Now that was very entertaining.

I found it kind of silly that both Luciana and Leon didn't check their phones when they first got up in the morning. Instead they were out of the house and then finally checked their phones. Seems to be me that Luciana would want to keep up with messages from home and make sure her phone is completely charged.

Oh Anita, this was splendid.

"They drink to siblinghood" and "DisGraced" were my favorites of many and like other friends here have noted, the Amazing Race theme was inspired.

I kept wondering if the time spent shadowing Luci and Leon on their frantic trip might have been better served showing us what actually transpired at the appointment? But Leon is always fun and I don't believe we have ever seen Luci smile as much as when she is with her brother.

I loved the Sonia/Lili scene. Lili is so alone (understandably of course). All Sonia needed to do to coax Lili to spill all was to be her gentle, encouraging self.
Sonia begins to analyze the situation and suggests the problem is not Marta or the men, but—she strings it out carefully—Lilian". Exactly.

"They agree they get along swell and promise to seek each other out if either of them needs anything, anything at all". I'm happy to see Susan and Cesar are bonding as friends. They both need a comforting, empathetic supporting ear.

Niecie your advice to Bobby to "Little boy, hold that memory" was spot on. Bobby is very sensitive but smart. Let's hope his antenna is up and that he resists Gracie's syrupy, not from the heart apology.

Susanlynn, I was born in Jersey and as many times I've been to NYC in my life, I still feel a bit intimidated. You are not alone.

tofie, I get the feeling you are living a very exciting life. Have you ever thought about writing a book? I sense you have many fascinating stores to tell.

Anita, thank you for your thoughtful, wonderful summary.

Diana

Diana, I always love to read your comments. Your lovely spirit akways comes shining through them. My mother's family all lived in New JErsey, so I spent a lot of time there when I was a kid...Summit, Westfield, Fanwood, HIllside, Martinsville, Springfield. Now, they are scattered throughout the states. My older daughter lived in Hoboken before moving to Manhatten, so we often visited there.

So, do you think that Dr.Cesar and Soosan will end up together?

Lilian seems to resort to vino and cookies as her comfort food.

Ahh Susanlynn. No wonder we are so much in sync. I was born in Newark but grew up in Hillside. I know Summit, Westfield, Springfield and Fanwood well!

I thought Cesar and Susan might end up together initially, but I'm not sure now. It's possible and would be nice - they are good people that deserve to be happy.

I never thought I'd have anything in common with Lili (heaven forbid), but cookies always make me happy too so I can identify.

Thank you for your uncanny ability to know when I/we need a boost to lift our spirits. Your kind remark did that for me tonight.

Hugs.

Diana

So I see that Juan cooking up a sinister plan to frame Miguel!

Diana: I hope you're right about No-Game Cesar & Susan ending up together. OJ Mark won't take no for an answer!

Susanlynn: Lillian has a soft spot for cookies ? Hoping somebody poison them!

Kirby: Luciana & Leon enjoying time off the hog in DF.

Cynthia: You're thinking Felipe could be Carito's cousin ?

Yoohoo, Jerseyites--I'm a Coopie that went to Douglass and married a Rutgers man.
Go Scarlet Knights!!!

Thank you Anita, I've taken to reading the recaps instead of watching lately. I wasn't able tell what episode I had just seen because they have become so repetitive. For now I will just read in order to keep up. If it picks up, I will start to watch it again.

Yes, this show is quite silly. I can't imagine why it was extended in Mexico, I hope it gets better.

Another Jersey girl heard from!

Amazing sisterhood here.

Brothers live in Ocean and Cranford so I still try and go back when I can...

Steve, Mark can't control his jealousy when he and Susan are merely having a conversation. Susan can't control her fear or loathing during same. Mark is a boastful brute and I think Susan is wise to be fearful. He is the villain I fear most.

Diana

Diana: Both of us hoping Susan is among the living when this TN ends.

On FerBrat: Karma is going to get her very soon when the truth about Lisa's death is revealed.

OT..Anita..I don't know what a Coopie is, but my favorite cousin DRew went to RUtgers.

Susanlynn--Our dining hall was in Cooper Hall, at the corner of Nichol Ave. and George Street. Since it was a women's college in those days, the students were already called Coopies when I arrived (the term used somewhat derogatorily--so I suspect it came from across town at Rutgers--but became more endearing). I don't think the building is there any longer. And, of course, Douglass has long been co-ed.

I think Susan will live, but it will take a near death experience before she'll be willing to denounce him. From what I have read and learned here on Caray, it's that domestic violence is like hypertension--the silent killer. Untreated, people can't tell you are sick or dying from how you look. Domestic violence victims are very good at masking beatings--or the aggressor knows where to land punches. I don't want to mention any names we might recognize (but it rhymes with Tarry), but I have heard that some aggressors WANT people to know how well they control their partners by actually beating them where it shows. The victim feels too ashamed and guilty to acknowledge the violence and the cycle is perpetuated.

Many times it does end in death--or we wouldn't have story after story on the news, soon turned into a TV program on Dateline or 48-Hours.

Fer will certainly feel deceived, but I have a feeling that particular crime of Gracie's will be a long time coming before it's revealed. I think Grace will continue to slip up, as she did with Bobby. The two kids will put their heads together on Grace.

Meanwhile, Fer's bigger problem is going to be what Peter will do when he gets back and find out he's been led on and replaced by a vineyard worker. Will he and Tano get into a fight and Tano land in jail -- again?

I dearly hope not, Anita.

Tano needs to learn to curb his temper. He's only 20 or 21, but that's old enough to know that letting one's anger loose doesn't fly in the US. However, the idea of him getting arrested for merely throwing a punch is ridiculous in the extreme.

Not to mention that we all know FerBrat isn't worth it and David wouldn't like this situation. For which I wouldn't blame him. Tano is not a bad guy but he is not up to the level of someone whom David would want his daughter to be with.

Thank you, Anita! Always love your recaps: they are delicious and thought-provoking and generate such delightful comments as I have read on this post! You guys covered it all. We'll see what today brings!

Thanks!

(P.S. Anita, hope you see that spam ad above and remove it! Thanks!)

" arrested for merely throwing a punch is ridiculous in "

The only thing this TN is missing is flyng Pigs.

That spam is on all the recaps from this Friday's episodes.

Tonight's might be a little late. I have to go out this afternoon and I'm also not feeling well.

Sorry, Urban. Please don't worry about it. Take care of yourself!

Hi Anita. "The great race"recap. There probably wouldn't be one if these two
Numnuts had remembered to bring their
Chargers and find somewhere to plug them in. That annoyed me, them runnin around, folks tryin to call them and no Power on the phones. Everyone's tryin to help her and she almost missed her chance. And why does she get upset cuz The mig was helpin erica? People going out of their way to help her, where does she get off with that attitude?
Her stubborn butt would be Stayin in Mexico or wherever if people didn"t go
Out of their way to help her. I like
Her, but sometimes baby girl is full of herself.

That's the rage that came up in grr'racy when she murdered her sister.
It'll come up again.
Lil is a selfish uptight b....witch.I
Think the gut-man dodged a bullet. Lil you ain't all dat.

Ok thanks Anita. Later.
