LA FAN #13 2/2/17 Thursday

Lucas has recovered from his fall however the romance is cut short when Vale gets a call from Eloísa that Tomás is sick with a fever. She decides to go home and Lucas takes her. When they get there, Lucas decides to stay while they wait for the doctor. Lucas sees Lucía's photo in Tomás' room. She explains she is Tomás' mother. The doctor comes and Tomás will be okay.

Diego is posing as Felicitas sketches him. When they finish, she is all over him. She likes him a lot and not just as a model. If he needs money, she Is generous.. He does not want what she is offering but is willing to model. She says she'll see.

Pablo is upset that Adriana is interested in an employee of the company. She should be with someone who is good enough for her: at her level. He wants Adriana to distance herself from and fire Diego because of of how he maligned Benicio's character. She refuses.

Gabriel is all nervous and confused with the news of his paternity and needs to talk to somebody. He goes to talk to Salma (of all people). He tells her all about Vale and Lucía and how she ended up with Tomás. It is just too much for her to take: Gabriel being the father of the fan's child. She reminds him his son is going to be around Lucas. He does not like that. He won't be telling Lucas because Lucas never knew he was the other man in Lucía's life. He says he is not going to tell Vale he is the father yet. He is worried about her reaction. He tells Salma not to say anything to Vale. Isn't he worried that Lucas will find a place in his son's affection before he does?hter

Lucas goes to see Gabriel to tell him about Lucía being Tomás' mother. He needs closure with Lucía. He needs to know who she left him for. Gabriel says he will help him find out everything.

At work the next day, Benicio threatens the guy with the ring he hired to beat up Diego. He got him in a mess by telling Diego the truth. He needs to fix the situation or he is fired. Diego drags the same guy into Adriana's office and tries, to force him to confess that Benicio did hire him so he Diego does not look like a liar. The guy refuses. He does not wear rings. Adriana is left wondering why Diego accused Benicio. Later Diego makes sure she knows he is not interested in her money. He is interested in her.

Vale decides to stay at home with Tomás and Lucas quickly realizes how much he depends on her.

Rodrigo walks in on Salma all over Lucas in his dressing room. They try to explain it away and ask him to not say anything.

Eloísa saves Carlos from committing suicide. Her "Carlos López" shows up at the café looking for Diego. They are both shocked to see each other again,

Gabriel stops by to see how Tomás is doing. He plays games with him on his phone. Tomás spills a glass of something on his pants. Vale offers to clean them for him. Lucas comes over to tell Vale that nothing in his life works without her. Surprise! She has a pair of pants on her arm and Gabriel is peering out from the bathroom.

LA FAN

Wow!
Gabriel is going to help Lucas find out who Lucía left him for.? Hmmm. . . Too funny.
Poor Rodrigo walking in on Salma and Lucas and then being given such lame excuses and being asked to not say anything. . . Sure.
Eloísa now has TWO Carlos Lopez's to deal with.

I felt sorry for Vale so insecure about her own attractiveness as a lover.

LA FAN

I seemed to want to call Carlos (Adriana's dad) Pablo in paragraph 3 of the recap. If we could just go back and edit in this comment format.

LA DONA:

BREAKING NEWS: The Colonel has escaped from the Torture Chamber!

La Fan

Thanks Jarifa! Lucas getting jealous of Gabe for spending time with Vale is going to be fun to watch.

La Fan. Excellent recap, Jarifa! Gabe is bonding so nicely with Tomás that it's too bad he's not the father. In fact, that was a sweet family scene with Vale preparing a snack for everyone and Gabe and Tomás playing video games. I thought it was hilarious that Vale is such a great personal assistant that Lucas can't cope for even a day without her. He has come to rely on that healthy fresh-fruit breakfast and the periodic cups of good coffee. It was also funny that no one else wanted to do anything beyond what their work contracts specified. The plot thickens! Lucas and Lucía's picture. Carlos Duarte and Eloísa. And of course this will get really sticky for Carlos, since, if he's read that old letter from Eloísa, he knows that one of her sons is his. What if it's Diego? Oh oh! And there's so much deception now. Salma of Gabe, Gabe of Lucas. It's getting really juicy. I love it!

LA FAN:

Thanks so much, Jarifa. I love the growing jealousy that Gabe and Lucas are feeling for Vale. What lie will Gabe come up with about who the "other man" was in Lucia's life? It would be hilarious if Lucas secretly took a sample of Tomas' dna for a paternity test, like Gabe did, and of course it comes out positive. Then both guys would be competing to be a father to Tomas, and of course for Vale's affections too.

SpanProf- I don't think Carlos ever received that letter from Eloisa. I think Felicitas intercepted it and hung on to it.

La Fan

I also think Felicitas hid the letter from Carlos. She mentioned something about taking care of his problems, without him even knowing, so I assumed she was referring to keeping Eloisa's son a secret. It had better be Miguel. Carlos could be Diego's father and NOT Adriana's, but I hope they don't go down that path...

La Fan

thanks so much Jarifa !!

hmm, so Eloisa's old flame was Carlos Lopez, who now goes by Carlos Zubizarreta, whose brother is Lucas Duarte.

this show is rich with details.

Jessica, who looked fairly normal today except for the tequila sunrise hair, did a good job keeping Salma off of Lucas.

I guess Felicitas is still living at home, but has a separate place for her studio, (so as not to upset Adriana with her models), as Carlos talks about her janitor boyfriend.

LA DONA:

Deb: AG plotting something sinister against Monica. Regina, as usual, does nothing but sit on her expletive!

LA FAN

Jarifa - Thank you for another great recap!!!

ITA with other comments already posted by The Patio.

I loved the cheesy 1960s movie-type incidental (theme?) music that played in the background in every Elo & Carlos Zubi- Duarte. scenes.
I kept thinking we would hear the theme from "A Summer Place" next. ;-)

Carlos Z/D is either Miguel's father, or father of Diego and someone else as Adriana's dad. Telenovela rules and all that.

Telenovela beanie hat time --- when do doctors make house calls to middle-class homes in the USA?

Jessica was great! in her scene with Salma. This actress is doing a great job as Jessi.

Carlos Milquetoast ... er ... "Lopez" is just pitiful and, bless her heart, Elo had to become such a bossy woman (just like his mother!!! QEPD) to talk him off the bridge. Ack.

For having kids in a telenovela, Rodrigo and Tomas are the best (and the least annoying) kids I've ever seen. After Lupita in Silvana, though . . . almost anything is better.

LA FAN:

Doris- Yeah, the Jessi-Salma scene was my fave from this episode. "Sal! Sal!" Get out/salt! I love how Jessi was protecting her friend's interests.

La Fan. Great catch on the background music, Doris!

LA DONA:

Of course, AG now believes that Monica has always been trying to jump Saul's bones and is stabbing her in the back. The whole episode AG basically had a tantrum, making everything about her. It's not always all about you, AG! Now she has it out for Monica and is having Brau dig into Monica's life and past, including info on her dad...Regina warns Yesenia.

Karen points out that Brau arrived awfully quick to the crime scene, and it really didn't seem like AG had time to call him-- at least none of them saw her make a call. Loved seeing Saul confront Brau, turn the tables on him, knock him down, and turn his own gun on him. Brau was ticked, but still isn't giving up the truth. He's placing all the blame on AG for Jaime's death. Of course, Ximena called him to give him a heads up that Saul was coming for him. I hate her more each episode.

Felipe helped Yesenia find a posh pad for her, Laz and Monica. They give Monica a flimsy story of one of her clients winning the lottery because of a tip Yesenia gave him, and sharing the wealth with her. Uh, huh. Sure...

And of course, the BIG development of the night, when Matamoros takes Cespedes to the bathroom (what kind of high class torture is this?), Cespedes gets his hands on the needle full of drugs, injects Matamoros and knocks him down the torture basement stairs. Cespedes is free and out for blood!

LA DONA:

Oh yeah. And Valeria is likely pregnant, but doesn't know if it's a baby from her sweet loving-making sessions with Lopez, or a result of the brutal rapes of her husband.

Doris, I so agree about Diego having to have different parentage than Adriana. They may taunt and tease us with "yuck" incest but I cannot see them actually going there. I would love to see Tomás not being either Lucas' or Gabriel's son but Carlos'. .

The last comment was for: LA FAN.

La Fan. Jarifa: Love it! Then he would be the half brother of one of Eloísa's sons, who are kind of like unofficial uncles to him now.

LA FAN

Jarifa - if Tomas is Carlos Z-D's son, that would mean Lucía was doing three guys at the same time. Um, ew. It's doubtful the show would go there with that, it being family viewing. 😮

La Fan. Doris: Though it could have been sequential--just a very short sequence. :)

LA DOÑA Thanks Vivi for filling in the details from last night. I agree about Ximena. She's just so weak. As my mother used to say, "If you don't stand for something, you'll go for anything." And she's made her bed now. Bad choices every step of the way. Boy the noose is starting to tighten in Monkee-landia. Wonder how long they'll string us along before the Francisco reveal. Is he off on business half way around the world, or is he right under our noses without anyone the wiser. But the coronel is on the loose (in his underpants) after having given up Daniel. Not liking AG after her rough treatment of Moni. I'm guessing the mother-daughter reveal will come quite late in the game after some irrevocable, unforgivable event.

LA FAN

Wow! Another fun episode tonight! The recap will be up some time tomorrow morning. : )

SpanProf - I can accept "sequential." LOL

Gabriel comes out wrapped in a "Lucas Duarte" photo towel. Why is he there? Gabriel says he is just doing what Lucas asked: to find out who Tomás' father is. Lucas says he'd rather do it himself. For the rest of the episode Lucas and Gabriel end up in a full fledged competition to win the affections of Vale and Tomás. Lucas brings sushi for dinner. Tomás who has told his mother he does not like Lucas reacts with a: Yuck! Raw fish! Gabriel brings burgers and fries which is something else he can bond with Tomás over as well as video games and soccer. Neither wants to be the first to leave allowing the other more time with Vale. Gabriel ends up telling Lucas that he is really interested in Vale because of the wonderful person and mother she is. He does not want Lucas sleeping with her. Lucas complains that she is his novia after all. Gabriel reminds him that that is just pretend. Lucas says If he does not have a physical relationship with her she is gong to be suspicious. Does Lucas like Vale, too? Is Lucas jealous? Gabriel will be there when the novela is over to console Vale. Lucas reminds him it was all his idea.

Eloísa and her Carlos go for a walk. It has been 25 years since they as each other. It was by chance he walked into the café. She says she sent him a letter telling him what was going on and where she was. He never got the letter. She reconciled with her husband and they raised her two sons. Carlos has no intention of losing her again.

The guy with the ring that beat up Diego pays off one of his partners in the beating. His name is José and he in turn is willing to sell the truth to Adriana about the beating deal. She writes him a check. Yes, Benicio ordered it. Up to this point, Diego has been trying to convince Adriana that he is interested in her for herself and not her money. Now that she apologizes to him for not believing him he tells her they are from different worlds and to take care of herself and that worm Benicio. Adriana tells Benicio off. Adriana and Diego do some more bickering over who exactly Jessica is since Adriana ran into her at her house and Jessica referred to herself as Diego's friend soon to become his novia. Adriana tells Diego she does not want to end up disillusioned.

Eloísa fills Vale in on her Carlos. He was the love of her life and Miguel's father. Miguel does not know. Her deceased husband give him his name and loved him as his own. Carlos never knew because the letter she sent him never got to him. On the other side of the issue, Carlos brother Ignacio is in town so they can talk about finding Eloísa.

Rodrigo confronts his mother about what he saw with her all over and kissing Lucas. She explains that she and Lucas are really still together and that the thing with the fan is just for publicity. He asks if Vale knows that. No she doesn't. He is upset with her and Lucas.
He tells them both that he is going to tell Vale the truth. Lucas is upset that Salma told Rodrigo. She is confident she can buy him off. Well, it turns out she can't. Rodrigo calls Tomás and tells him they have to talk the next day. They meet and Rodrigo says he has something to tell him about Vale and Lucas.

Salma is so happy to hear that Gabriel is interested in Vale. (Her plan is working!).

Carlos is surprised when he sees Jessica at his house: she is there to do Fe-LÍ-citas' makeup for an interview about her new exhibition.

Eloísa gets a call about the other Carlos. He had a heart attack. She leaves to go see him at the hospital.

Lucas tells Vale the reason that Gabriel did not want to leave her house was because he LIKES her!

Sorry, I left the title off of the previous post. LA FAN # 14 2/3/17 Friday

LA FAN:

Thanks, Jarifa! It was fun watching Gabe and Lucas compete for Vale and Tomas' affections and attention. I think Vale was enjoying it too.

Glad the writers answered our question and now we know for sure Miguel is Carlos' son. That's on less complication Diego and Adriana have to worry about. Now, they just share a sibling in common, like so many telenovela couples do. :)

Is Ignacio Carlos' brother? That would make him Lucas' brother too. I just thought he was Carlos' friend.

I really enjoy the scenes between Carlos and Nati. I laughed when she had HIM prepare her coffee, and then sat back to hang out and chat with him on the couch.

LA FAN

Vivi, I wondered about Ignacio, too. Carlos did address him as "hermano" but that could have been just a friendly greeting. Have we seen Ignacio or heard about him before?

Lucas is soooo pathetic. He has it sooo bad for Vale and it is sooooo evident but he is such a schmuck he cannot declare himself. At least Gabriel has a backbone; will Lucas grow one?

Miguel was quite suspicious about "Carlos". Was he a friend of his father and mother. No just his mother. Then Eloísa correctly tells Miguel he was the son of the love of her life. This could get messy.

La Fan. I agree that it's just as well there was hardly any suspense about which of Eloisa's sons was fathered by Carlos. Thank goodness it was Miguel. It serves Benicio right for stiffing his thug on Diego's beating that the thug then betrayed him. Snobby and cheap! What a catch! I will say that this tn doesn't seem to indulge in cheap endless suspense situations. I loved how Lucas just couldn't resist taking a long look at his image on the towel. Gabe has made it clear that he's not so much romantically interested in Vale but values her friendship and can't stand the idea of her getting hurt. I hope they're not going to have Carlos Lopez die just to get him out of the way. I too wonder who Ignacio is.

La Fan

Thanks Jarifa! Another fun (and funny) episode! I love that most things aren't being kept secret for more than an episode. I wish more TNs had pacing like this one.

Glad I wasn't the only one who was wondering about Ignacio. I know I've seen the actor before, just wasn't sure if he was in a previous episode and I forgot or if I was thinking about a different TN.

La Fan. And btw, Jarifa, your recaps just keep getting better and better.

La Doña 49

some interesting developments last night, what do I remember,

AG shuts down Braulio once again, explaining their relationship is that he is her right hand man.

Braulio stops by the Foundation to offer Daniel a tempting donation and an invitation to a charity event so AG can size him up and customize a new torture routine just for him, but wait Saul is there, so he ducks behind a corner till he leaves, but wait, while he is making the offer Monica shows up and rats him out, ah, and they come to the conclusion AG is doing this to get back with Saul, Daniel turns it down (for now until he can run it by Saul), Saul is much more important to the Foundation than the money.

Monica takes the job at the foundation but as Daniel points out, the pay won't be much.

Regina pleads with AG to NOT harm Monica, what do you care is AG's stance, (is this where Regina reveals that Monica is her daughter, nope) and disses Regina in that she will never know real love and never understand why AG will fight to keep Saul.

Regina runs to Felipe, this IS a gran amor, they gently move it to the bedroom (why do I get the feeling the AG juggernaut will roll right over these two)

Leticia hands Valeria a pregnancy test, (I don't think Valeria can even look at it) do it now Leticia prompts, you may have an important decision to make and the sooner you know the better, Vale does the test, but hands it to Leticia for the results, positive.

Gabino is stalking Monica, tries to clear his name by offering the bribe money from Rafael, Monica tells him to give it to Lydia himself, later from afar he sees Monica give Jorge a hug, (this guy gives off more steam than an old locomotive) and approaches Jorge after Monica leaves, Jorge doesn't want anything to do with him either, but does accept the money for Lydia.

Braulio checks in with AG with the bad news on Daniel, they click that Saul's investigation into Miguel has led him there, throwing uncertainty into her plans, she sends him to check on Matamoros who has not been answering her calls.

Yesenia works on Monica to go to the new apartment, but Lydia is being released the next day and Monica wants to be there for her, later we learn that Yesenia and Laz did make the move.

Colonel Cespedes is on the loose, a bit wobbly, goes for Matamoros' phone, calls his kids but they don't answer, but notices Rafael's number on the phone, aHHa, he works for AG, and set him up (not true) and is confirmed by Rafael who walks right in, Cespedes shoots, but there is no one there, not even the black bird, Matamoros cringes, as Cepedes makes his second conclusion, he would rather his kids remember him as a corrupt military Colonel than a member of the Monkeys, who raped and killed defenseless girls, and the only way to do that is to shut up AG by killing her.

Cespedes has rounded up all the hand guns at the ranch and forces Matamoros to drive him to AG's mansion, conks him on the head and slithers up to the house, in and up the stairs, where AG is getting ready for bed.

Monica is also alone, sees her locked door knob being tested, Gabino is on the other side and has pulled a ski mask over his face.

LA DOÑA Thank you so much deb! Like mother like daughter seems to be the theme! I knew when Yes & Laz went away there would be trouble for Monica. Is AG alone in her house? Maids I suppose, but no henchmen or bodyguards. Interesting that Cespedes & Gabino are "men in uniform". Thanks for explaining that bit about the colonel's motivation for going after AG (that he was concerned about his legacy with his kids). Is this meant to humanize him in some way? Matamoros doesn't look so sinister now that he's literally under the gun. And what's with Leticia? Do people always carry around pregnancy kits in their handbag? just in case? That seemed a bit of a stretch, but perhaps just choppy editing.

LA DONA:

Thanks so much, deb! I dread to see how the next episode turns out. I'm so worried for Monica.

LXV- Leticia and Valeria bought the pregnancy test in between the time she concluded Val was pregnant when they were at the restaurant, and when they arrived at Leticia's house so that Val could take the test.

It will be interesting to see bow AG continues to try to pull Daniel into her web.

LA DONA:

Vivi: Valeria better pray that Braulio is the father of the baby. Because if Lopez is the father, both Valeria & Lopez are DEAD!

I'm also interested to know what AG has planned for Daniel too.

LA FAN

Thank you for the recap, Jarifa!

Bless his heart, Lucas is not the brightest bulb on the string, but he is fun to watch, so far. Vale's bath towel with his face shot was too funny.

It's hard to imagine Benicio being so stupid that he did not pay the thugs he hired.

There are so many Diego/Adri scenes that I started to wonder if either of them ever gets any work done.
The **** will hit the fan when Adri learns that Diego is one of Felicitas' models.

LA FAN

J, I really appreciate these mysteries being solved in a timely manner, also. It sure keeps my interest up.

Thanks, SpanProf. I am used to writing very long recaps so my challenge with this novela is to get the most important events in a single comment post of 4, 00? characters or less. :)

doris, it is fun to watch Lucas. When I see him I feel like he is constantly weighing the Vale situation and the Salma situation so he can put off making a decision as long as possible. I think he would be happy never having to make a decision. He is cute but in a weasel kind of way. How long before he is pushed into pure panic mode?

LA DONA:

LXV: What does AG have planned for Monica ?

A.) Tortured by Braulio

B.) Hired sniper

C.) Rafael kills her

La Fan. Jarifa: Not long, I would suspect. :)
