La Doble Vida de Estela Carrillo (LDVDEC) #19 6.1.17: If He Drugs You...He Doesn't Love You
Memories are in italics.
• Laustela doesn’t care about Ryan and Morgana’s kiss. In fact, she came to ask him for help regarding Chavalin’s situation.
• Ryan asks Joe to help Chavalin out. Joe will do what he can but he notes that falsifying IDs is a serious offense. Ryan then asks about Liz and Joe notes that they are thinking about splitting up.
• Laustela asks Genesis if she can give Leticia asylum at her apartment for a few days and Genesis accepts.
• Danilo tries to get Laustela to celebrate with him that the album is complete as does Morgana, who is still pissed at all the attention she is Danilo gives Laustela.
• Laustela and Rosario discuss the Ryan and Danilo situation to death. Laustela notes it’s temporary and she was clear with Danilo about her feelings. Danilo doesn’t seem to care and skips the celebration to eat lunch with them and Paloma at the house.
• The next day, Danilo discusses the money laundering scheme with “El Dorado.” ED notes that he will soon replace him as it usually the rule of life. Danilo smiles at the thought.
• Several days later, the showcase is about to commence and Danilo gets handsy with Laustela backstage, though she chides him immediately. Danilo then goes to Morgana’s dressing room, offers her a drink, and suggests she use her other ASSets since she has less than ideal singing skills. She tries to throw him out but her vision gets blurry and she faints on the couch.
• Ryan notes that Laustela has been more than cheerful lately; he assumes it’s because he’s doing what she loves. Laustela is bothered by his comment and leaves, before another fight ensues.
• Later, Danilo asks Laustela to replace Morgana, who he says is drunk off her mind in the dressing room, but she doesn’t want to. Danilo suggests they send everyone home but Laustela accepts on one condition: her name won’t be mentioned in the press and Danilo will take care of press. He accepts.
• Laustela begins to sing Morgana’s part and Ryan immediately goes to find Morgana, who tells him that Laustela and Danilo drugged her so she could replace her in the showcase. Ryan doesn’t believe it but Morgana reminds him that there is a lot he doesn’t know about.
• Laustela begins to sing another song as Mercy, Joe, Asdrubal and a roll of reporters watch from the audience. Laustela looks at the audience and notices Fausto, watching silently by the entrance. She hands the microphone to Danilo and runs offstage as Fausto smiles and leaves.
• Laustela chugs a bottle of water backstage as Danilo continues the song and then tells the press that they will be open for questions soon.
• Morgana wants to start a scandal at the press conference but Ryan reminds her that she would only look like a drunk while running the band’s reputation. She agrees to keep quiet and Ryan goes to find out what happened.
• Danilo finds Laustela backstage and offers to take her home despite her protections.
• Moments later, Ryan runs into Mercy backstage, who demands to know what happened, as Genesis comes and explains that both Laustela and Danilo have disappeared. Ryan goes to find them.
• Back in her room, Laustela remembers her sordid history with Fausto: how she met him in her hometown at church while she sang in the choir; how his shy smile made her happy and his promises to form a family and travel the world warmed her soul; how her aunt was against the relationship because he didn’t seem trustworthy; how he promised to make her a star and asked her to leave with him to meet a big shot producer while her aunt was away; how he told her they had no money to pay a hotel when they arrived and took her to Tona’s brothel; how Mr. Blake and Osiel got handsy with her but wanted to talk business first; her fear and horror at the situation as Fausto suggested she pay their stay and slapped her when she complained. Laustela shakes her head and cries.
• Chavalin calls Leticia and apologizes for all that happened. Leticia tells him that Laustela was able to help her and she is staying at Genesis’ house. She asks if his crime is serious and he tells her it is. Either way, he was thinking of a change in career anyway.
• Danilo offers Laustela a drink and she chugs it down and then asks him to leave her be because she doesn’t want to talk to anyone. He apologizes for making her take Morgana’s place on such short notice, but it had to be done for the good of the band, and leaves.
• That night, Ryan chides Laustela for drugging Morgana but Laustela tells Ryan that Danilo told her she was drunk. He thinks it’s funny that he believes everything Danilo tells her but Laustela notes that all he cares about is defending Morgana so he can get another kiss. Ryan thinks all she cares about is being a star and fulfilling the dream she and in her hometown.
• Danilo celebrates with the band members (sans Morgana) in the tour bus but Calao is not in a celebrating mood. Danilo is surprised that ED didn’t see the showcase, only Asdrubal, and Calao agrees since Danilo talks to him so often. Danilo wonders if he will tell Asdrubal about his talks with ED but Calao reminds him that he’s grateful with those who are good to him. Danilo then suggests they bring a private show to ED and asks the band members to get ready.
• Laustela asks Ryan if he’s jealous of Danilo but Ryan reminds her that he is the owner and promoter of Danilo’s band and thinks she planned to replace Morgana at the showcase from the very beginning. Laustela doesn’t care what he thinks because she is only pretending to be with him until someone recognizes her as Laura and the whole situation blows up in their face. Ryan hopes it’s soon, though he feels bad for Paloma, but Laustela promptly tells him to go to hell.
• Later, Mercy comes and asks if Laustela left him again. Ryan reveals that, this time, he left her, because she apparently found someone else to seduce under the same roof. Mercy assumes it’s Danilo though she will find another way to obtain the 20%.
• Laustela tells Rosario about the showcase and Fausto. Rosario assumes he found out that she is Ryan’s woman and may extort her. Laustela isn’t sure though she hopes it was all a hallucination brought on by nerves. Rosario nods and tells her that flowers and a card came for her earlier.
• Mercy tells Ryan that Danilo was very smart. If he seduces Laustela, she breaks up with Ryan and then he can impregnate her and win the 20%. Ryan doesn’t care about the money, especially because Laustela’s relationship with Danilo isn’t even confirmed, but Mercy reminds him that rumors sometimes are based on truths.
• The flowers are revealed to be from Fausto, who tells her that her mouth and voice are unforgiveable, despite all she did to try and hide them. He asks for $100, 000 in exchange for his silence.
• Danilo arrives at ED’s restaurant as one of the employees asks him to come inside sans Calao as ED is waiting for him. Danilo arrives at the kitchen but only finds Asdrubal, who is pissed to know that he has been meeting with ED alone. Asdrubal then orders Talisman to drag Danilo downstairs for a torture session.
• Laustela tells Rosario about the note. Laustela will have to pay him to keep quiet though she will ask Danilo, and not Ryan, for the money. Either way, she asks Rosario to promise to keep Paloma safe, no matter what.
• Despite Danilo’s complains, Talisman drags him downstairs as Asdrubal takes out his collection of knifes. Talisman holds Danilo down as Asdrubal grabs a knife and cuts Danilo right about his jugular vein, as a warning. Danilo screams that he understands and Asdrubal hopes he does or the next thing he will take is his tongue. He then warns Danilo to forget he ever met ED and makes him promise to only follow his orders. Danilo agrees and they release him.
• Outside the restaurant, Danilo tells Calao what happened with Asdrubal. Calao thinks it is weird that Asdrubal would be so protective of ED, especially after ED himself asked Danilo to meet with him but Danilo thinks it’s all because he doesn’t want him to prosper. He tells Calao that he will talk to ED about starting his own money laundering scheme but Calao notes that he needs clients and will ED’s direct competition. Danilo thinks it’s all part of the American way of life though Calao thinks he misunderstood ED’s suggestion. Danilo thinks he didn’t and asks Calao to get him in touch with some potential clients. Though Calao is skeptical, Danilo will find a way to compensate him and even make him a partner. Calao nods and then explains that he will talk to Soto at Furia tomorrow, just to make sure their current scheme is going good.
• Sometime later, Danilo arrives home to find Ryan waiting for him. Ryan demands to know where he went with Laustela and Danilo explains that she didn’t feel well so he took her home. Ryan asks if she felt bad about drugging Morgana but ultimately wants to know if he and Laustela are together because a little bird told him they were. Danilo tells him that’s a lie, all he did was try and comfort Laustela, but Ryan demands to know what exactly is going on between them…

Moronga (with the dark lipstick that I didn’t care for, but fits well with her new name) was quick to blame Laustela for drugging her…even drugged she’s a conniving witch. Yay, for Ryan for continuing to push her away, but I think he was more upset about Laustela leaving with DaniLowBlow..
Ryan hadn’t disappointed me in a while, but he did in this episode. First he takes the word of the likes of Moronga; then he goes and chastises Laustela for something he didn’t even bother to confirm (including throwing her dream of becoming a star in her face—I hate to think what he will say/do when he finds out about her past)…and then he goes and tells all to Mommy Dearest. He lost a few points with me there…
How disturbing that Laura’s flashback was only the beginning of her hellish ordeal. She only knew Fauxpas one month! He sure did sweep her off her feet…right into an abysmal snakepit. So we now know that Osiel and La Toña worked together and Blake was a client. Laura and Blake did look a lot younger, so I think Laura’s horrid experience may have lasted several years.
Was I seeing things or was Devilbun making goo-goo eyes at Laustela? yuck, yuck!
Devilbun went easy on LowIQ, The guy is unbelievably STUPID. He needed more than a small cut to get through that hard head of his. He actually thinks tat “ED” was serious when he hinted the idea of Danilow starting his own laundering business…what an idiot!
Poor Chavalin…still thinking of Leticia first, but she just doesn’t seem as fond of him as he does of her. I hope she doesn’t break his kind heart. I felt so bad for him when he said he needed to find another means of earning money so no one would have to worry about him.

When Morgana was running down Laustela, Ryan did protest, saying something like, "she's not like that." I guess his jealousy got the best of him.
From Morgana's point of view (it's horrible in these shoes and how do I keep this microskirt from riding up when I sit!), I can see why'd she blame Laustela instead of Danilo. Laustela walked up the other day and simply took over the song when Danilo asked her to, without even a sympathetic word/nod to her. Understudies are supposed to be cool and pretend they really don't want to take your place.
Poor Laustela. That was horrible, from an innocent girl singing in church to sold into sex trafficking by her "first true love." Ariadne did a good job. I get why she doesn't tell Ryan. SHAME, even though it's not her fault -- and her leaving led to her elderly tia's lonely heartbreak. And what stupid advice from Chayo, whom I normally like. Stop trying to talk the girl into jumping to Ryan's brother. Made me wonder if even Chayo doesn't know the whole story.

RC..Oh no, I hope that Laura was not kept prisoner in that dreadful place for years .If so, I cannot believe that she is not more damaged than she is. Horrible. The superhero chavilin is now in jail. Laura is in danger.

I realize we have a no gossip rule here but I don't think it would hurt anything or anyone if I say I believe the 2 actors were an item although quite a few years ago.

SusanLynn, in Laura's flashback, the man standing next to La Toña is Osiel. I am assuming he is the owner of the bordella. There is no Oselia.
I think Chayo knows at least some of what happened to Laura. And, Niecie, ITA, not cool the way Chayo is trying to push Laustela toward Danilow.

Kirby..I think that in young Laura's mind, Fausto was her boyfriend. I hope that karma comes fast and hard for all those awful abusers. The fact that this scenario plays out in real life with young girls is despicable. You would think that Laura would be much more cautious about guys now after her horrible experience.

Yes Sue, I spoke about that yesterday or the day before. What was missing in Laura's case was a drug addiction. It is rampant here in rich-assed FloriDuh.

Alfredo, I thought that was a very detailed recap, and I learned so much that I missed. I thank you for coming to our rescue.
So, Oselio is that creepy guy that had his hands all over poor Laura. It was horrible the way those people absolutely surrounded her! How frightening and degrading.
Lestala now has to deal with the bordello baddies along with Dan trying to seduce her. She must feel like a piece of meat.
I thought that Mercyme was going to start singing during that conversation with Ry. Her voice kept going up and up. The actress sounds so different than she usually does.
I hope that this turns into a strong woman themed show with Lestela outwitting all the folks trying to use and harm her. Gird your loins, girl, bring those villains down. I don't think that I have ever seen a that with so many evil people.

RC..Cal might be having some very bad feelings about Badbun right about now due to that whole barbeque thing. Dan and Cal as allies might be interesting. I do not imagine that either has won a lot of merit scholarships.

Niecie in MD "Adriadna did a good job. I Get why she didn't tell ryan, SHAME but it Wasn't her fault". Not to kick her when she's down but it kinda was her fault. she made a dumb decision she went against her tia's warnings she tried to tell her and she wouldn't listen. she got herself into that mess but if she plays her cards right she will get out of it but right now she's taking that bad advice that chayo gave her.she's been doing dumb things for a while now.When is she going to smarten up? I think with BarB'QBun and ED, it is just the old chain of command thing. Nobody wants a subordinate doing an end around and running to his boss, taking him out of the loop.

Nina, Kirby, SusanLynn, I agree with each of your comments. If you think about it, Laustela did take responsibility (going up against the Bordello group, protecting Paloma, and crossing over to the States), so I give her credit for that. After the Riverside incident and she made the news, the snowball started rolling. She is making some questionable decisions and placing trust in those she shouldn't so I am disappointed that she didn't learn from her experiences and is not more cautious. Ryan should be the one she should turn to, but with the type of people they are dealing with they are going to need much more help. I'm surprised that there aren't any cops in this TN where criminal activity abounds... and they didn't even replace "the prosecutor" with someone who could continue the murder investigation.

Thank you to all who corrected me when I wrote Ryan drugged Morgana. I actually did realize it was Dan but I noted the wrong name.
I'm dreading seeing the rest of Laura's tale. It was beyond depressing. I also thought she loved Fausto and he repaid her by the cruelest betrayal one person could do to another.
I really like Laura. I respect that she isn't bitter and still has a bit of trust which is admirable considering what she has gone through. She is a good mother and staunch, loyal friend. She doesn't quite have Danilo's number but she knows enough not to get involved.

Yeah, Sue, LauStela is in over her head now,through no fault of her own, and could benefit from Ryan's help.

Lest we forget, Calao is a cold blooded murder twice that we have seen. Very early he popped a bullet into (I believe) Danilow's predecessor's head, and recently the fellow DaniLow etc. saw him leading away at the party.

I have not actually noticed whether Morgana is a good singer or not. I haven't heard anything that makes my ears bleed (other than the tuba-laden banda music in the opening credits), so I don't think she's terrible?
Usually when I look at Ryan I think "Ryan" but during this episode, I kept thinking "Ramiro." He was questioning everyone about what happened to Morgana and trying to reconcile the conflicting stories or figure out who was lying. That was Ramiro's whole life in TVA. It would have been so much easier if he had taken into account which of the people in his life were LIARS.
What is the deal with Calao? Was he hired directly by Danilo, or is he El D's (or BunMan's) employee assigned to babysit Danilo?
BunMan's bun reminds me of a samurai topknot. Sometimes, in certain lighting, he looks like a Japanese ghost warrior. (Deliberately?) The fact that he doesn't want Danilo talking to ED, when ED likes to deal directly with Danilo, says something about BunMan's relationship with El D. I just can't figure out WHAT it says.
"Mercy reminds him that rumors sometimes are based on truths." Well, true, but sometimes they aren't. A rumor is useful if it alerts you to a possibility that you hadn't previously considered, but unless you have a way to check it out, it's just noise to screw with your head and should probably be ignored, IMO.
Laura is a fool to pay Fausto. He will just keep coming back for more.
But I don't think Laura is a fool to be more careful with Ryan than with Danilo. Ryan used her to get out of prison and then he proposed marriage to her without telling her about the extra 20% she was worth to him. Danilo doesn't (as far as Laura knows) have a track record of using her and lying to her.

Susanlynn, I did see Wonder Woman last night. I hope she'll show up during one of the bordello flashbacks and kick everybody's ass. I would like to say a lot more about the WW movie, accolades and gripes, but it's way OT so I won't. I'll just point out that we've had multiple live-action Spider-men, Batmen, Supermen, Hulks, etc. ever since the live-action WW TV show went off the air. This film was seriously overdue. But if a long wait was the price we had to pay for this movie, it was worth it. She was perfect. The plot wasn't perfect, but Diana was.

She was pregnant at the end of filming , had the baby a few months ago, and looks fantastic. Hey, maybe she really iss Wonder Woman!!

You're welcome, Julie. Milton is the reporter that stalked and threw pictures of Laustela at the beginning of the tn after the Everwood shootout. Fausto later saw him on the TV giving the reporter on Estela Carrillos connections with Furia and Regional Music's connection to organized crime.

When Asdu showed up at the showcase, I watched him watching Laustela. He definitely has an interest in her, whether her voice, or HER. I wonder if there is some biological connection we haven't suspected. He looks, or makes us think he looks like he's old enough to be her father. He could have just been an associate of Pedro Carrillo's, but then he would have known what Realstela looked like.
Could the bordello have been in his string of "businesses" and knew about her there? We don't know yet how long she lasted at that place, so it's pure speculation.
I agree with everybody here that ED is suspect as the head of a big crime syndicate--he's too openly moving around in his restaurant and kitchen. He would need security, bodyguards, big office. I'm voting it's either Asdrubal himself or Mystery Woman.

I agree with everybody here that ED is suspect as the head of a big crime syndicate--he's too openly moving around in his restaurant and kitchen. He would need security, bodyguards, big office. I'm voting it's either Asdrubal himself or Mystery Woman.

Anita..your "Asdu" is my Badbun. I am verra disappointed that he is not an undercover cop. Ihe actor has a verra expressive face, and like you,i thought that he was watching Lestela verra intently. Had he ever seen her before at Furia? I dont think so. I , too, thought that he might recognize her from the brothel. I don't think that she has ever met Badbun , and she did not seem to notice him in the audience. Was it significant that he sat next to Little Joe?

ED and Asdrubal weren't but mystery woman was. Danilo officially met Asdrubal later in the basement of ED's carnita's restaurant. Danilo met Talisman, Calao and Asdrubal unofficially when they berating his band at venue they were singing at because he forgot the works and Morgana was all legs and no voice.

My mother used to make banana splits. She even had special banana split glass bowls. She would set out all the sauces, vanilla ice cream, bananas, and whipped cream on our big dining room table , and we all made our own. Nice memory !

I think I've died and gone to Banana Split Hopeos heaven. I never liked banana ice cream or banana bread, but I've recently gotten into the healthy habit of frozen bananas. I cut them in thirds, freeze them and it's like eating some really tasty banana ice cream-pudding.
Ya know... that lady sitting in the Middle of the party could be ed the mob boss. But I never thought of her being realestela. But it would make sence if lady under the canapy was ed the bosslady.
Ok, now I gotta find a good saturday night movie to watch.
