Telemundo has announced that the new season of El Señor de los Cielos will debut on Tuesday, June 20, in the 10 pm (EDT) time slot.

Everyone is welcome to join in the conversation.  Since discussions of all the Telemundo novelas share the same page, please remember to put the name of the telenovela you're referring to at the top of your post, so readers can easily find the conversations they're looking for.

By common agreement, this group DOES NOT discuss previews, trailers, or any other plot information not found in a current or past episode of the current production. Spoilers WILL be removed by the admin. This includes reference to earlier productions of the story, and even the original novel. Thanks for your cooperation

LXV: Is "Gonul" a Brazilian TN ?

Steve, I have no idea. I'm out of town on business this week so I'm not watching anything. I just post whatever they tell me.

Steve, as far as I know it is Turkish.

Yes, Gonul is a Turksh series.

Volver Amar started today replacing Gonul.

Also, I heard that Guerra De Idolos has been cancelled.

I just wanted to say that I've been working on learning Spanish. I am in the hearing comprehension part. These recaps have really helped. I have followed Amor Bravio on Univision and am currently watching Mi Adorable Maldicion and the replacement for Amor Bravio is Lo Que La Vida Me Robo. The first one I watched, when I couldn't understand but one word every minute or so was Amores Verdaderos - I loved this Novela.

The hearing comprehension is difficult, but so much better. I'm amazed with how much I get. My vocabulary is slowly increasing. Now, if only the people on the talk shows could SLOW DOWN!! Novelas are not as fast in their speech. THANK YOU EVERYONE for your awesom recaps. I look forward to watching more and am looking for someone that I can practice my speech with - that's another thing. Anyhow, I am THANKFUL for FINDING this site. Hasta la vista!

GENERAL

Hola a todos! I haven't been watching any telenovelas since Silvana Sin Lana. Anyone have any idea what new ones are coming up that would be good for beginner/ low intermediate Spanish learner like myself? I'm itching to get back into the swing of watching one.

Wish they'd repeat my fav of all time, the hilarious and over-the-top Reina de Corazones!

Hola, Jude. Since Telemundo now seems to be all narconovelas all the time, I have been watching La candidata and El bienamado on Unimás. La candidata is pretty serious, with themes a little like our House of Cards or Scandal, while El bienamado is a mostly fun farcical comedy. Its only problem is that the main character, don Odorico, doesn't seem to have a single redeeming feature, which imho is unusual for what is otherwise a fairly light comedy. I love Mark Tacher, though, in the role of the unhappy but basically kind doctor Serrano.

Skyview: The wonderful recapper and site commentator novelera attended something called "The Forever Spanish Class" at her local community college. They read modern Latin American novels and met one evening a week to discuss them and chat. You might look into whether there's anything like that where you live.

Talk about serendipity! I just logged on to drop a line saying how much I miss you all. And then to see you, SpanProf, mentioning my Spanish class. A small correction. The class is taught by a fabulous teacher with a PhD in Romance Languages from Berkeley, whose mother was from Guadalajara, Mexico and whose father from California. But it's not a college course. The class is offered in what they call the Adult School of a local high school, nearly all night classes. They have amazing offerings of language courses, crafts, cooking, computer software, etc. I took Low Intermediate Spanish, then High Intermediate, and for about 15 years have been in a class entitled Advanced Spanish Conversation and Literature. We have about 12 students usually at the start of the quarter. Some drop out and we get down to about 8 or 9. Having so few students is a real benefit in terms of more participation. The first hour is chat - 100% Spanish - with one of the students having prepared a topic: a book or movie review; their latest bird watching adventure, a synopsis of a fascinating article they've read about paleo-anthropology, etc. When they finish, the rest of us ask questions. It’s really good for one’s fluency.

The second hour we read aloud and discuss a novel; or, rarely, a drama. Each person reads a page aloud, then, still in Spanish, synthesizes what they just read. The instructor then asks random people questions about what was just read. So we don't exactly race through books. But the critical analysis is great! We are currently reading Gringo Viejo by Carlos Fuentes. They made a movie of it in the 80s with Gregory Peck, Jimmy Smits and Jane Fonda. The book is waaaay more symbolic and deep than the movie, although I did enjoy it when I saw it many years ago.

I really, really miss recapping and commenting here. But the current novelas are just not my kind of programming. I was going to watch La Candidata upon the recommendation of my compañera de trabajo but the offerings for UniMás appear to be only streaming on my DirecTV channel lineup. My internet is not terrible, but downloading episodes just doesn’t work that well. So I’m not watching anything in Spanish right now.
