Everyone is welcome to join in the conversation.  Since discussions of all the Telemundo novelas share the same page, please remember to put the name of the telenovela you're referring to at the top of your post, so readers can easily find the conversations they're looking for.

By common agreement, this group DOES NOT discuss previews, trailers, or any other plot information not found in a current or past episode of the current production. El Señor

Steve, LXV is quite right. In the future, please do not discuss anything that hasn't already been shown during the regular broadcast. That includes not talking about the previews.

Thanks.

Juanita: All I did was bring up my opinion on Thursday's episode.

Geez!

LXV: Sinu ka nga! Tanga ka Rin ???

El Señor

Steve, it wasn't your expression of your opinion that is at issue. The problem is that in the first message on this page you said, "the previews for tonight showing Aurelio throwing a dagger at her when she tried to shoot him." The Telemundo pages have a policy (one that pre-dates LXV and me) that prohibits all spoilers, including mentioning what happens in previews. That's the policy, and LXV and I are expected to uphold it. So please, just be careful about not including spoilers in your future postings. Muchas gracias.

El Señor de los Cielos:

We're nine episodes in and you already kind of need a playbook to keep track of everything. So, for those joining us late...

- Aurelio wants to retire, but wants to leave the business in some sort of honorable state and wants to remove the biggest threat to that state: his nephew, Victor. He's also in the process of hunting down his now ex-fiancée, Emiliana, for betraying him.

- Victor is branching out into prostitution for no obvious good reason, barring him going full Heidi Fleiss to accumulate secrets on Mexico City's elite. (OTOH, this apparently has gotten him a new girlfriend in the form of a blonde girl he kidnapped who perpetually looks like a zombie.) At the same time, he still at least wants to take out President Bizarro Pena Nieto and track down his wife--AFAIK, they're still legally married--Monica, but apparently has to deal with a separate threat: an unidentified Russian cartel (they took out some of his street dealers a couple of eps back). Flip side, Victor has also picked up a fairly badass new henchwoman named La Niña (Baby Girl, thanks to CC3) and I'm just sort of waiting for her to bang him--or Aurelio, since...well...

- Monica, in an attempt to wash both her exes out of her pretty hair, has retreated to her home in Mexico City and is trying to reform the Robles cartel out of nothing. (Discounting Ramon, the nicest and possibly most capable henchman in the entire series at this point.)

- Super Javi, Victor's former lieutenant, severed ties with him over the plan to take out Aurelio at Victor and Monica's wedding and bailed for Colombia, where he's quietly doing his own thing. Monica's reached out to him for support, as of last Friday's episode.

- Emiliana Contreras is on the run from Aurelio's wrath, since he discovered her and her mother/aunt/whatever Lourdes's plan to kill him (even as Emi admitted she absolutely didn't want to go through with it after falling for him). Problem is, Aurelio's IT department (and here I pause to laugh a bit, since three of Telemundo's current narconovelas all feature criminals with B-movie-level IT setups of increasing complexity) was able to track her down in Colombia.

Lourdes, meanwhile, was so utterly committed to the plan she basically sacrificed herself so Emi could escape in the first place--and got relatively close to actually taking Aurelio out before she got a knife in the chest for her trouble. Unfortunately, this also removed one of the best actresses so far in this season of ESDLC.

- Alba, back from her years-long exile in a convent, has basically gone full Elvira Venegas (El Chema): as much as she loves her firstborn son, he's a blazing hot mess and surrounded by death and violence and she's walking around nearly 24/7 with a WTF face. Most recently, she bailed with Aurelio's daughter Rutila (who is apparently running some sort of legitimate business of her own) and Aurelio and Monica's son Isidro.

- Rutila is sortakinda dating an artist, Sebastian. Sebastian is, reluctantly, acting as an informant for the DEA via Jorge Salazar to help track down Aurelio.

- Salazar has tracked down and reunited with his ex, Esperanza--right before his boss forced her to basically turn states' evidence on Aurelio and somehow snag all the money she's laundered for him before going into witness protection. We've also seen Esperanza's mother, who at this point is an older snobbier Tuti and screw that.

El Señor de los Cielos: (2)

- La Felina, after a botched escape attempt in Mexico, got extradited to Colombia and is in prison with a couple of acquaintances and a druggie inmate who she seems to be fascinated by for some unidentified reason.

- We still don't know what happened to Tijeras after he was arrested. (Since Tommy Vazquez went off and did La Piloto, though, I think the cockroach of the narcoverse may actually remain off-canvas for a while.)

- BPN, when he's not fiending for Rutila, is having to deal with low approval ratings and the increasingly overt resistance from Rodrigo Rivero, who's probably moving slowly from Standard Action Hero to Jack Ryan territory. One good scandal or bomb attack and he's President...and I'm strangely okay with that. Conversely, BPN has also made a new friend in the form of one Jaime Rosales, a faintly sleazy industrialist's son.

- And Evelyn Garcia is still in prison in Mexico for, in theory, Monica's "attempted murder" (as mandated, apparently, by BPN).

The thing with this show, perhaps more so than any of the other narcoverse shows, is that--particularly last season and so far in this one--the protagonist is, somehow, coming off as even more sociopathic than usual. I mean, hey, it's Rafael Amaya, but still--Aurelio really has been a hot mess in just nine episodes. I'm basically rooting for Alba, Salazar and Esperanza (even though by narcoverse rules one of them is utterly doomed if they become a couple again), and particularly Rivero--the lone good guy in the Mexican government.
