Enamorandome de Ramon #17 8.30.17: False Testimonies and Love Confessions
Porfirio goes to dinner with Margarita, who is chugging down a glass of wine. He orders another round and she comments on how drunk they will be if they keep drinking. Porfirio doesn’t mind as he’s in the mood to celebrate, especially now that they have rid themselves of Hortensia, who has decided to get another lawyer to represent her. Porfirio gets serious and asks Margarita about their relationship. He wants to know if there are more than friends and asks if she’s ever thought about them as a couple. Margarita thinks they make a great couple at work and grabs his arm. Porfirio smiles and tells her she’s the best partner at work and goes in to kiss her but Margarita turns away. She begs him not to ruin their friendship over a night of heavy drinking. Porfirio smiles, sadly.
Dalia arrives home and finds no one. Just then, she receives a call from Luisa on the home phone and finds out that Ramon is at the police station. Luisa tried to call her earlier but Dalia’s phone had run out of battery.
Porfirio understands and apologizes for trying to kiss Margarita, who reminds him that a kiss between them will have serious repercussions in their professional lives. Porfirio wonders if they can be more than just co-workers but Margarita would rather have him as a friend her whole life than as a boyfriend for a while. She reiterates that she loves him too much to lose him and, either way, she likes someone else and hopes to be in a relationship with them. Porfirio asks why she never told him sooner and Margarita reminds him that it’s not a topic they have talked about before. Porfirio thinks though, since Margarita doesn’t have a boyfriend, that there may still be hope for them.
Hortensia explains that Ramon is the son of the maid, Juana, that works at her deceased son’s home and Juana acts like she owns the place and everything has been a disaster since her son died, mostly because of Juana. She tells the detective that she only let Juana work in the house because she’s too old to do the housework and her granddaughters needed the help but, when the problems started, she asked Juana to resign and she was going to pay her accordingly. She then tells him that Ramon attacked her when she was talking to Juana and called her an abusive, old fart, and pushed her. The only reason she’s alive was because she put her hands in front of herself and broke her fall. She points at her wound and explains that she may also have hearing damage because of the fall, on top of the ugly scar the wound will leave. She shakes her head, unable to comprehend while Ramon reacted so violently when she was only talking to Juana.
Julio tells Juana that he understands Ramon didn’t want to hurt Hortensia but he must be on his mother’s side. Juana and Fabiola reiterate that Ramon did nothing to Hortensia; Fabiola then stomps her foot, frustrated that Hortensia continues to ruin their lives after she already made them lose the insurance money. Julio hopes everything will be resolved, in the end, and Pedro hopes so too. Julio then apologizes to Juana again for the situation and leaves as Luisa arrives. She asks them what happened and Juana cries because Ramon may receive several years in jail. Luisa hopes Hortensia doesn’t win because it will be unfair. Juana nods and asks Luisa to go with her to get something to drink. Fabiola then asks Pedro why Hortensia is taking so long, since she must testify as well, and suggests they call Andrea and Jorge so they can come and testify. Pedro assures her that they will call them, if necessary, but for now, only she and Juana will testify.
Jorge worries that no one has called them and Andrea suggests they go to the station. Jorge nods and they go to leave but find Francisco at the door, looking for Fabiola. Jorge thought he was working but Francisco asked a co-worker to cover him for a few hours. Jorge nods and explains that Fabiola is at the police station with Juana because Hortensia stormed into the apartment to throw Juana out but Ramon intervened and now Hortensia is accusing Ramon of hitting her.
Outside the station, Juana and Luisa talk about the situation. Juana is stressing the fact that Ramon is in jail but is happy that Pedro is helping her out. Luisa then asks about Julio, who left in a hurry, and Juana laments that he is in a difficult situation with her and Hortensia. Luisa wonders if he’s being distant now because she won’t receive the insurance money but Juana is unsure though she can only think of Ramon right now.
Francisco demands to know why Ramon was in the apartment cooking dinner in the first place or even why she’s at the station. Jorge explains that she went to help Ramon and Francisco asks for the station’s address. Jorge gives it to him and Francisco storms out. Andrea shrugs and wonders what happened but Jorge is sure Francisco was jealous.
Hortensia is escorted out of the interrogation room as Fabiola and Pedro look at her. Once alone, Pedro admits that he is disappointed in Hortensia as she is going to play the “little old lady victim” card just to ensure she wins the case. Fabiola agrees and asks Pedro if she could see Ramon for a moment. Pedro goes to talk to the policeman on duty to see if she can.
Juana laments the fact that Ramon came to visit her from Tijuana, she wishes he would’ve stayed where he was. Hortensia then comes out with the policeman and they see her. Luisa blames Hortensia for all they are going through but Juana doesn’t care if Ramon is set free. Julio then comes and takes Hortensia home as Juana looks on, dejected.
Fabiola goes to see Ramon and promises that she will do whatever she can to make sure he’s realized. She assures him that she is on his side, no matter what. Ramon thanks her and asks about Juana. Fabiola admits that she’s inconsolable but Pedro is helping her get him out of jail. He asks her how everything is going and Fabiola explains that Hortensia insists he attacked her and she’s an elderly person so that makes things worse; they may give him up to three years. A guard walks in then and announces that her visit is over. She reassures him that they are going to do everything in their power to help him and leaves.
Pedro goes to talk to the detective at the station and asks why he hasn’t called Fabiola or Juana to testify. He tells him he will, soon, and Pedro then asks about the charges against Pedro. The detective explains that the charges are senior abuse and assault, on top of negligence since no one helped her when she first hit her head. Pedro is sure that Fabiola’s and Juana’s testimony will clear up any doubts and the detective reminds him that, despite everything, Ramon will in jail until a judge looks at the case.
On the way home, Hortensia is sure Ramon will not be released, especially after all she told the detective. She can’t wait to see Juana’s face when she hears the news. Julio, surprised at her words, asks if she lied to make sure Ramon stayed in jail but Hortensia denies it, she just told the exaggerated version of the truth. Julio warns her that say may get in trouble, as Fabiola, Juana, Jorge, and Andrea may say testify against her but Hortensia doesn’t care as the law is on her side since she is an elderly person who was a victim of abuse. Julio shakes his head, quietly.
Dalia arrives at the station and inquiries about Ramon. Juana and Luisa explain the situation and tell her that Hortensia is saying that Ramon hit her so he may get three years. Pedro comes and tells her that the detective is ready for her testimony but he will call Andrea and Jorge and Fabiola too, if things come to that, as Hortensia insists on saying that Ramon hit her. Fabiola comes and Juana tells her the news. Pedro nods and explains that the case will go before a judge and then the legal process against Ramon will begin. Fabiola is shocked at her grandmother’s lies are more powerful than the truth but Pedro is confident that they will win the trial, when they get there. Fabiola begs Pedro to help Ramon, as she promised to get him out, but he can’t answer as Francisco comes and demands to know why she’s promising Ramon anything.
Osvaldo and Susana arrive at his apartment building but he parks a few feet away. Susan asks him why they are parked so far, as he doesn’t want her to meet his family, but Osvaldo tells her that he is very tired and just lost his car so he will call her tomorrow. Either way, he doesn’t think now is the best time for her to meet anyone and storms off.
Fabiola tells Francisco that he is overacting as she only wants to help Ramon because her grandmother is lying. Francisco is happy that they are helping Ramon but he thinks she should stay out of it as he already has others who can help him. Fabiola demands to know why and he argues that they are all in this mess because Ramon is after her, romantically. Fabiola thinks he’s being ridiculous but they can’t continue their argument as Pedro tells them that they must testify now. Juana thinks it would be pointless especially now that the whole thing may go to trial but Pedro reminds her that they can still win. Juana begins to cry and begs him to tell her what to do because Ramon doesn’t deserve to be in jail. He promises to see but first he needs her to go testify. They go off and Francisco then tells Fabiola that he has nothing to do there anymore and leaves but Fabiola doesn’t chase him.
Osvaldo arrives home and Virginia is surprised to see him there as she thought he was staying the whole weekend. Osvaldo tells her that he didn’t feel like, especially after what happened with his car, but Virginia asks him to calm down as Julio hasn’t had the best day: first the robbery, then the sisters lost the insurance money and now Ramon is in jail for attacking Hortensia. She sits him down and tells him the whole story.
Hortensia arrives home with Julio and announces that she will have the best sleep in months. Julio looks at her, surprised, and tells her that he is shocked and scared at her recent actions but Hortensia explains that she was just trying to unmask Juana and Ramon as the lying thieves they are, and she did. Julio nods and goes to leave but Hortensia would like him to stay and celebrate. Julio doesn’t think there is anything to celebrate and leaves.
Virginia finishes her story but Osvaldo could care less; he prefers to concentrate his efforts on finding his care. Virginia chides him for being so insensitive, especially because his father was robbed and could’ve died, but Osvaldo shrugs. Julio then comes and Osvaldo asks about his car and what they plan to do. Julio explains that there is nothing he can do as the insurance had expired. Osvaldo thought it was next month but Julio shakes his head. Osvaldo argues that if Julio hadn’t borrowed the car then it wouldn’t have been robbed but Julio reminds him that he had business to take care of and wasn’t on a joy ride. He chides Osvaldo for only thinking of himself but Osvaldo is tired of his reprimands. He reminds Julio that he was supposed to keep his grades up, to get the car, and he has so he must keep up his end of the bargain. Julio shakes his head and explains that he doesn’t have money, right now, to buy him a car so he can take the bus or ride with Jorge. Osvaldo would like a used one at least but Julio refuses to give him a car after his recent behavior. Virginia asks them both to calm down but Osvaldo demands she mind her own business. Julio grabs him and orders him to control himself but Osvaldo asks if he’s going to hit him. Julio lets him go and orders him to go to his room. Osvaldo storms off as Julio looks at Virginia with a “that’s your son” face.
Porfirio takes Margarita home and she asks if he’s mad at her. He shrugs but Margarita knows he’s been quiet and pensive since she told him she liked someone else. Porfirio reminds her they are just friends and can do with their lives whatever they want. Margarita nods, gives him a kiss on the cheek, and leaves. Inside the car, Porfirio looks after her and curses himself for being an idiot for thinking he could be more than a friend to Margarita.
Susana arrives home and Emilia asks her why she’s there. Susana explains that they stole Osvaldo’s car and they had to come back; Emilia asks if she’s mad about that because she would be the same way. Susana is not mad about that though, she’s mad because Osvaldo refused to introduce her to his family. Emilia thinks that’s best because a commitment right now would be a determent. She then announces that she’s leaving but Susana barely bothers to ask her where she’s going. Emilia gives her a kiss goodbye and goes.
Roxana, now with a new cell phone, tries to get in touch with Diego to no avail. Augustin wonders if she’s calling Diego or Antonio but Roxana explains that she must call Antonio to get in touch with Diego. She then tries again and Antonio answers, though he chides her for her recent actions and hangs up without another word. Roxana pretends to keep calling to Antonio and Augustin leaves, visibly bothered. Once alone, she hangs up the phone, frustrated.
In his apartment, Antonio whispers that Roxana is a liar and a cheat. Just then, Margarita knocks on the door and asks Antonio if they can talk. He lets her inside.
Jorge and Andrea wonder if no one has called them because they only have bad news; she argues that, since her parents died, there has only been bad news: they lost the million dollars, she lost her voice and now Ramon is in jail. Jorge nods but reminds her that he will always be by her side, to help her. He then leans in close and gives her a kiss on the lips. Andrea gives into the kiss for a moment but pulls away. Jorge, surprised at his own actions, explains that he meant to give her a kiss on the cheek but missed. Andrea thinks he did it on purpose but Jorge argues that he didn’t but he asks if it was good. Andrea laughs and nods; Jorge begins to laugh as well.
Margarita and Antonio discuss what happened last night. Antonio apologizes for taking advantage of her, especially because he can’t offer her anything right now, after Roxana, but Margarita admits that she really enjoyed their time together. Antonio admits that he did too but he is full of disappointment and anger. Margarita proposes they be friends with benefits because she has always liked him and wants to see where their relationship goes. Antonio asks if she’s sure and Margarita hasn’t been so sure of anything before. She kisses him, deeply, and Antonio kisses her back.
Virginia serves Julio some tea and tells him that he shouldn’t worry as they will get Osvaldo a new car, soon. Julio is not worried about that, at all, but rather the fact that they lost the million dollars. He argues that if Juana would’ve received the money, he could’ve managed it and they all could’ve benefited from the money. He reminds her that he has been buttering up Juana for this very reason but Virginia doubts Juana would’ve given them the money. Either way, they lost the money and now they will never know. Julio nods.
Dalia asks the officer on duty if she can see Ramon. The officer tells her to go speak to the guard at the entrance of the cell block and see if she can see him. Dalia nods and smiles at Luisa, ecstatic.
Margarita arrives home and sees Hortensia. She is shocked and asks her what happened. Hortensia chides her for disappearing all day and not checking up on her, especially after Ramon attacked her. Margarita asks if she provoked him but Hortensia explains that she simply went to talk to Juana and Ramon assaulted her. Margarita is quiet as Hortensia vows to make sure he goes to jail. Margarita asks why she didn’t call her but Hortensia reminds her that she never answers, either way, she defended herself and found a patrol car to help. Margarita thinks that it looks like she hit herself with something instead of Ramon hitting her but Hortensia reiterates that Ramon hit her, on purpose, and she doesn’t care if she believes her. She vows to make Ramon and Juana miserable while she can. Margarita reminds her that, if she’s lying, things can get worse and Hortensia stops short. Margarita suggests they talk things over.
Dalia goes to see Ramon and tells him that she feels horrible for what is happening to him. She wishes Hortensia would die but Ramon tells her she shouldn’t wish death upon anyone. Dalia agrees but reminds him that Hortensia has done nothing but ruin their lives. Ramon is sure that Juana’s and Fabiola’s testimony will save him though Dalia thinks Fabiola will ultimately side with her family. Ramon disagrees, especially because Fabiola has offered her unconditional support, but Dalia tells him that Fabiola doesn’t care about him like he thinks she does. Ramon is sure Fabiola is not being disingenuous but Dalia thinks he and Juana care too much about the Medina sisters, especially Juana who seems to love them more than Ramon. Ramon asks her to calm down as Juana’s love is not on trial, he knows what she feels for them. Dalia is unsure as Juana continues to help the sisters, even though they called her a liar and a fraud, but Ramon reiterates that he is sure the sisters love him and Juana. Dalia is sure Fabiola only helped him so Juana wouldn’t leave them alone; she reminds him that the help will never be part of the family.
Margarita explains to Hortensia that a trial will be long and grueling, especially if everyone is against her, but Hortensia reminds her that she is protected because she’s a senior citizen and has a wound on her head. Margarita argues that none of it will matter if a judge finds out she’s lying; Pedro may even demand sue her for lying. She suggests Hortensia make a deal, before the case gets to trial, but Hortensia wants to see Ramon pay for hitting her. Margarita wonders if she’s overreacting, as he will go to jail for a long time, but Hortensia doesn’t care if they lock him up forever. Margarita shakes her head, shocked, and then goes to answer the door, as someone knocked. It’s Juana, who begs Hortensia to tell her what she must do so she can let Ramon out of jail. Hortensia doesn’t want anything, she just wants her and Ramon to pay, but Juana demands to know what she did to earn Hortensia’s hate. She argues that Ramon only tried to help her but Hortensia argues that he pushed her, on purpose. Juana reminds her that things didn’t happen like that but Hortensia asks if she’s calling her a liar. Juana thinks she misinterpreted the situation but Hortensia is done: she doesn’t care how many years they give Ramon if he pays for what he did.
In their apartment, Fabiola, and Andrea stress about the fact that Juana went to see Hortensia alone. Jorge offers to go and check but Pedro advises them to stay calm and let Hortensia think she’s won the battle against Juana. He reminds her that they can’t show up and defend Juana or Hortensia won’t listen to reason and then they will be back where they started.
Dalia thinks that Fabiola is a liar. She and her family are heartless monsters who will do nothing to help him. Ramon asks if she came to remind him that his situation is hopeless but she argues that she is only there to remind him that the Medinas won’t help him, only Pedro, and his mother, who went to go beg Hortensia to drop the charges. Ramon is shocked to hear that Juana went to humiliate herself but he can’t say more as the guard comes and tells them that their time is up. Dalia tells him that he needs to open his eyes about the Medinas and leaves.
Fabiola is unsure that Juana will be able to convince Hortensia. Andrea asks if there is an alternative but Pedro tells them that they must wait for Hortensia’s heart to soften. Jorge thinks it’s impossible but Pedro confesses that there was a time when Hortensia wasn’t so harsh but that was before their grandfather left her for Fanny, the maid at her house. Jorge realizes that this is why she hates Juana but Fabiola doesn’t think that is an excuse. Either way, Hortensia is classist and crazy and bitter and she loves only herself. Jorge asks Pedro if there is a way to release Ramon if the case goes to trial. Pedro explains that he can present proof, including their testimonies, to prove Ramon did nothing but the trial may take at least 2 months. During that time, Ramon will be in jail and there is also the possibility that Ramon may be declared guilty at the trial. They all stress about the infinite possibilities.
Dalia tells Luisa that Ramon is dumb because he thinks Fabiola will help him get out jail and Juana is even worse because she went to go beg Hortensia to drop the charges. Luisa asks her to calm down and stop talking bad about Fabiola, who has been nothing but helpful. She knows why Dalia’s being so bitter: she’s jealous that Ramon cares for Fabiola. Dalia thinks she’s being ridiculous and tells her that she will be the one to get Ramon out of jail. In fact, she will go talk to a lawyer right now and storms off. Luisa doesn’t follow her because she knows things must run their course.
Juana tries to reason with Hortensia and reminds her that they are both mothers but Hortensia warns her not to blackmail her, especially after what Ramon did to her. Juana begins to cry and tells her that she is begging her to drop the charges as she’s been apart from Ramon for years and her heart aches to have him close. She demands to know why Hortensia hates her so and reminds her that she knows what it feels like to lose a child. Hortensia demands she not compare her lowlife son to hers, especially because hers will never come back to life. Juana tells her that, just because Hortensia lost her son, doesn’t give her the right to take hers away…

'The best night's sleep in months.'? Puuuleeeze. I would give her the permanent kind of sleep, the old dirt nap. Beeech ! Hateful old shriveled up shrew. She gives us old people a bad name.
What is maddening about the Hornet situation, and prevalent in TNs in general, is that we are to believe that her whole orbit are brainless and nutless as regards what she is doing. In any normal family there is at least ONE 'leader' for lack of a better word, who would put a quick and judicious halt to her craziness right from the get go. In ours that has always been me. Margie is a full blown attorney, where is her professional compass pointed? I know, an attorney does not normally have one but for the sake of the TN she should have one.
As noted yesterday by Ms RGV Chik the legal system in Mex is vastly different from ours, notwithstanding the widespread corruption, so Ramon's predicament is believable. I still say, we need some guns and shooting. DaniLow, are you busy?
What I would like to see is Hortensia be proven a liar, charges being brought against her, and as a punishment she gets community service to work as a maid for some cranky, abusive old lady.
Credit goes to AAA for this excellent recap :-) I do recaps on Mondays only.
Lucio, you have my vote too for Hort's anvil. And Kirby, "we are to believe that her whole orbit are brainless and nutless as regards what she is doing" ITA, Horterrible is completely unbelievable...maybe they should get her checked into a psycho facility because she is totally incoherent and delusional. And the fact that she turned into the cold-hearted, demented witch after her husband left her for the maid is preposterous...couldn't the writer's think of something more believable?
I'm really glad Fabiola is seeing the true Francisquack. He definitely wees the writing on the wall. I'm just afraid of what he'll do to make sure Ramon is out of the way.
The other thing that's been getting to me is how the "children" address their parents (or elders). If I had dared to raise my voice to my mom, she would have bitch-slapped me into orbit. I'm not saying they have to agree or accept what the parents/elders say, but there are more respectful ways to dealing with unreasonable family members.
I'm totally at table Porfirio. He seems like such a nice guy and he and Margarita make each other laugh. I hope he wins out in the end. Sure, Antonio is super hot in those 2 sizes too small shirts but Porfirio is a gem.
So, HorTENSE's tense husband left her for Fanny, the maid. Big surprise this guy ran for the hills. What a bitter pill she is. If Pedro is waiting for her frozen heart to melt, I think that he is in for a looong wait.
We have two women intent on getting the object of their affections.... Dalia and Marg. Good luck with that , ladies. And Marg is perfectly willing to be a friend getting benefits. Life has changed, no?
Hmmm...most people do not kiss their cousins on the lips.
Watching that interaction between father and son, I thought ...apple>>>>tree.
Kirby, the eagle looks fierce! A few of my hens get like that when I get close to their nests.
Yes now we know why Hortence is a monster, she ircks me, everytime she's on the screen I want to throw a shoe at her, nightmare of a grandmother. And yes someone needs to put a stop to her. The way she keeps pointing at the bandage and restating she is an elderly woman, oh man drives me nuts. She will end up losing all her family.
Hortence is annoying, but Julio is a low life, now that there is no money he forgets Juana, I hope Juana is smart enough to never pay attention to him. It seems she does have a little crush on him. It may just be me, but it seems like she does. Hey it would be great if Julio falls for Juana just so that Hortence can suffer, but I do not want Julio and Juana to end up together, he is a loser, she deserves wayyyyy better.
Hor is horrible. She will, indeed, drive her whole family away if she keeps up her absurd vindictiveness. What is the matter with her? Her attitude and behavior does not seem normal.
I think Hortensia is as awful and disagreeable as the character of "Lilian" from Vino El Amor. Now it seems they have something in common. In this case, the reason Hortensia hates the help so much is because she sees them all as "Fanny" whom her husband ran away with.
I am having a hard time with Jorge and Andrea's relationship. I know some are questioning if they are truly related by blood, because this seems awfully strange to have romance between first cousins.
I'd bet we have all run into one at some time, the person who is just miserable, and bound and determined to stay that way no matter what. And they are all too happy to share their misery with everyone they come into contact with.
Sometimes an unfortunate event triggers their start down the road to gloom, but some just appear to be born that way, either way, you can die trying to make them happy to no avail.
I have run into more in another loosely defined group I call Hillbillies, but it has nothing to do with financial standing or geographics. They live their lives seemingly one bout of gloom away from suicide, and it is ALWAYS someone else's FAULT.
Believe me, there is nothing you can do. It is like putting out a fire with gasoline.
