Enamorándome de Ramon, Capítulo 14, Friday, August 25, 2017: Hortensia finds out about the engagement

Repeated scene: Antonio calls Roxana on Agustín’s phone and tells her he never wants to see her again. She gets on the plane with him in tears.

Fabiola gets to her office and with Francisco and Hortensia is waiting for her. Hortensia is all over her about working in a dirty awful place. But Francisco interrupts to tell her the “good” news: They are engaged. Fabiola shows off her little diamond and doesn’t look all that thrilled herself. She jerks her hand away from her grandmother.

Antonio laments to Margarita how it is that he has lived all these years not really knowing Roxanna. All this time he has thought about getting back together with her and having a 2nd chance at happiness with her. He now feels stupid. Margarita advises to just let her go and that this is his new reality.

Hortensia wants to discuss the wedding plans but Fabiola says she wants a simple wedding. “Nothing doing,” says Hortensia. But Fabi explains that since there is no money yet to do a nice wedding, it will have to be simple. She lets Grandma know that if SHE hadn’t held up the life insurance proceeds, the money would be available. Francisco leaves and Fabi asks Grandma what she is really doing there. Hortensia says she just came to visit, she has not seen neither Fabi nor her sister for a long time. Of course, these financial matters of a million dollars shouldn’t separate us, right? Fabi rightfully tells her that she sure wasn’t thinking when she decided to challenge the life insurance signature and lets her know if the judge rules against then no one gets the money.

Luisa leaves to do an errand, and Julio arrives home in a very bad mood. Virginia wants to know what is wrong but he retreats to their bedroom going through some files.

Jorge calls Juana and offers to take her and Andrea to the doctor’s office. Juana is on a bus going over to see Fabiola.

Antonio goes to pick up Diego at school with Margarita. She needs to go to work and Antonio offers to give her a ride.

Hortensia continues to reprimand Fabiola about working at the auto shop and Fabiola rightfully defends herself saying that if it was good enough for her father, it’s good for her too. Hortensia asks for the son of the servant girl; Fabi reminds her that she has a name, Juana. Of course when Hortensia first arrived, she did not know she was talking to Ramón and now she is very angry. She goes out to rebuke him. Juana arrives just in time and they both start arguing. But Ramón has an ace up his sleeve. Hortensia already told him (not knowing that HE was Ramón) that she thought Juana and Ramón were both scammers.

Again, Juana has to tearfully defend her position. Then Antonio arrives and the subject changes to Fabi’s wedding. Hortensia leaves and Antonio wants to discuss it in his office.

While Julio and Virginia are having dinner, he asks where Osvaldo is. Virginia explains he’s out at a friend’s house and yes he took the car. Julio angrily calls Osvaldo and tells him he shouldn’t have taken the car. Osvaldo can’t understand what has gotten into his father because Julio bought the car for him. Julio tells Osvaldo he “needs” that car. (Me thinks he’s wanting to sell it to pay his gambling debt, right?) Julio tells Virginia he “needs” the car because he needs to take it in for service. (Yeah right!)

At the university, Sara is asking Andrea why she won’t help her land her cousin, after all they are best friends. Jorge arrives and says he talked to Juana and will take her to her appointment.

In the office, Antonio advises Fabio not to get married so soon and wants her work for some time first before stepping into marriage. Fabi is frustrated and can’t understand why no one is happy about her upcoming nuptials except her grandmother. He tells her that maybe everyone else is seeing something that she can’t see yet. Since he can’t convince her to wait, he wishes her happiness and leaves because Juana is waiting to speak to her.

Juana comes in and Fabi starts telling Juana about her Grandma’s bad behavior and how Grandma wants her to quit her job there because it’s no place for a young woman of her stature. Fabi let her grandmother know that she was not going to quit and she was very happy working there. Then Fabi asks what Juana is doing there. “Well I’m here to talk about your wedding”, says Juana. Oh boy, everyone is asking about the wedding. But Juana knows something is amiss with Fabi and wants her to look her in the eye and tell her she really wants this marriage to Francisco.

At Porfirio’s office, Margarita is conducting a meeting of two clients and with an agreement that they both sign concerning some properties. The clients leave and Porfirio congratulates her and wants to celebrate tonight. She says no, she has plans with Antonio and Diego. Margarita goes on to describe that she told Antonio that she saw her and her lover kissing outside a restaurant and the whole story about going to the airport and the phone in the trash thing. But Porfirio tells her she shouldn’t have gotten involved. “But he’s my friend!” says Margarita. “He deserved to know!” But Porfirio tells her that if she hadn’t told Antonio what she saw, none of this would have happened. He sarcastically says, “Well done, Margarita!” He makes a snide remark about what she’s doing tonight. “Is the plan tonight a bucket of tears or is the plan to put more spikes in the problem?” She gets angry and tells him that he is unbearable to be with when he’s like this, turns around and walks out. (The truth hurts, doesn’t it?)

Fabi claims to Juana that of course she loves Francisco and he’s the love of her life, after all he gave her this ring. Juana notices that Fabi talks what he feels for her, but nothing about what she feels for him. Of course Juana says she will support her in whatever she wants to do. Juana asks Fabi what she is going to do about her grandmother and Fabi shares she is very angry with her grandma. Juana advises to make up with her.

Julio is on the phone in his office putting Osvaldo’s car up for sale.

Diego is at the shop and comes to Ramón and he shares with Ramón that he’s afraid that his mother will die in a plane crash too like his aunt and uncle. Ramón tells him he needs to talk to his father about all this since this scare is on his mind.

Luisa sees Benito outside and ask where he has been. He says “here and there, oh I’ve been attending to a neighbor”. So Luisa pulls out one of his chest hairs!  She wants to know if he has told his mother yet about their relationship and he hasn’t. Luisa is angry and leaves.

Rulo comes into the office and tells Antonio he needs the money for a part. Dalia takes out the petty cash. Rulo says he will bring change.

Juana questions her son why he did what he did, fooling Hortensia. He asked if she convinced Fabi not to get get married as he too, thinks it’s a mistake. Juana runs to catch her bus, but Ramón thinks to himself about his illusions concerning Fabiola and talks himself out of it.

Hortnesia is back at Porfirio’s office and this time she wants to make sure Juana gets arrested. He tells her that there is no evidence that Juana committed fraud with that signature. He gives her a piece of advice: To stop being in a fight against her granddaughters. Hortensia angrily leaves.

Jorge and Andrea are at school and he asks why she has been so distant. He tells her that he loves her a lot. She signs “like a cousin”. He says, “Of course like a cousin” and they hug.

Margarita is having a cup of coffee and shedding some tears over what happened with Porfirio. He calls her and leaves her a message regarding her mother just being in his office.

Diego comes to Antonio and tells him his fears about his mother regarding getting on a plane and how Ramón calmed him and told him to talk it over with his father. So Antonio approaches Ramón later and thanks him. Ramón says that children are a gift from God.

Andrea arrives at Dr. Linares’s office for her hypnosis session. He explains how it will happen and she will be in an alpha state. He rings a bell saying something about how this will bring her into the hypnotic state. He does a guided imagery thing with her for her to recall what happened right before her parents left for Europe. She asked them to get her a gift while in Paris. It had to do with a famous architect from the 1800s and she wanted a book of the architecture. Andrea kiddingly told them, “If you can’t go there and get this for me, don’t bother coming back home.” She skyped with them over the phone and they hadn’t been able to get over there and she was angry. There was a scene where Fabi walks in with Francisco and Fabi tells her that their parents were trying to call her and she wasn’t picking up. She was angry so she hid the phone under her thigh. She claimed to Fabi, she left the phone in her room somewhere and can’t find it. But the real truth was she was avoiding them since she was angry. Then Fabi told her that their parents wanted to tell Andrea that they were able to get to that place in Paris and find that book she was asking for. The next scene in her mind was when they found out about the plane crash. She sees her parents in her vision and wakes up with tears. She tells the doctor she cannot remember anything. He thinks it was a good session because she reacted so much.

As Juana and Jorge wait in the doctor’s office, Don Pedro (the lawyer) calls Juana to let her know that tomorrow the judge will advise if the signature is valid.

My My Ms Hampton, I trust you are sleeping, as you were up till three doing this recap for your fans. Thank You sooo much. We are not getting CCs here in For-I-Duh, so the recaps sure fill in the blanks. Thanks again.

So what is it we like about this show?

A cantankerous old biddy making everybody miserable? Nope try again
A beautiful naive young girl about to marry a money hungry cheater? Nah..I'll pass
A spoiled brat who wished her parents dead if she didn't get the trinket she wanted...
Cheater running away and leaving her little bundle of joy? Yikes this is getting worse.

An unassuming household helper being left the majority of the family's wealth? NOW we are getting somewhere.
Let's give her a gun and a bodyguard...Oops. OK give her son a gun to go with those cereal box tattoos.

And since no one in this show is sleeping with the ones they want to or are supposed to, let's just suspend the rules for a few episodes and let the whole kaboodle act like the barnyard in springtime and get it out of their systems.

Hoppy Saturday :-)

Thank you, Cynthia.

Fabi has a mischievous streak. How she teased the grandma about Ramon: "you said he was well-mannered, even good looking." And a few episodes back, how she riled Dalia about Ramon healing her.

Jorge hasn't defined for himself his relationship with Andrea. He didn't get the meaning of Andrea's question "As cousin?" Is he really thinking of her only as a cousin? I don't think so. His answer, though, put Andrea a little more at ease, and let her stop putting the distance between them.

Cynthia, thank you for the excellent recap!

Kirby, you have everyone pretty much pegged. I'm assuming the spoiled brat is Andrea/CuteMute? At least we now know why she was so affected by her parent's death--she blames herself because they took a later flight just to get her the book.

Lucio, it surprises me that Jorge hasn't figured out that what he feels is more than a "cousin" relationship...surely he would be able to discern his feelings are much more than that...would he be that naive?

Kirby, love the ducks! Are they looking out toward Texas and praying for their little Texan buddies?

They are looking toward Texas thinking "Too much of a Good Thing?" Quack !

BTW, is Hortencia the noun form of the adjective 'Horrible' ?

"more than a "cousin" relationship" Yeah, it seems that many times you can't really get these relationships sorted out without Tequila. :-)

Thanks , Cynthia. I missed the show, so I especially appreciate your recap.

Re:Cousins. My cousin's son and I had a little mutual crush when we were teens. Never came to anything but a crush, but neither of us ever liked the people the other dated. I think that it will turn out that either Andrea or Jorge was adopted, but..hey..in Doble we had siblings as a couple. Yikes.

In a TN..."Incest is Best".
I had a crush on several of my girl cousins.

But then I had a crush on anything that didn't wear a bell.

Woof..and tsk tsk

I had a student from Brazil named Hortensia. She told me that her name meant Hydrangea , the flower.

I like the "horrible" definition better :-) #patiodefinitionsrule

Cynthia, thank you for another superlative recap.

"Fabiola shows off her little diamond and doesn’t look all that thrilled herself" was perfect! An engagement ring purchased with love is precious. The size of the stone is unimportant. But BadFran, riddled in debt, did not pick out a ring commensurate with a doctor's salary. When I saw it, I thought it was tiny and wondered if it would even show on her hand. It unintentionally reflects how much he thinks of her - very little.

"He tells her that maybe everyone else is seeing something that she can’t see yet
Porfirio". Good, non self serving advice. Fabiola, if no one (especially Juana) is happy for you, I might rethink things.

It seemed apparent several characters are saying the right things, but not for the right reasons. "Margarita advises to just let her go and that this is his new reality". Had Margarita had not seemed rather self righteous and a bit self serving when she told Antonio, I would feel comforted by those words. And in a bit of karma coming back to bite, there was Porfirio's “Is the plan tonight a bucket of tears or is the plan to put more spikes in the problem?” It was as though he was privy to exactly what happened in crystal clear clarity. We've seen little of this character but enough to know he is captivated by Margarita. Were the words said with the well intentioned advice of a friend, or were they tinged with his frustration seeing how she feels?

Lucio, Fabi does have a playful, mischievous streak. Great observation. I think she can be fun and sweet and hope we see more of that.

Rgv Chick, Andrea's flashback certainly explained why she was so traumatized. I was a bit surprised, she did not strike me as bratty at all. She paid a high price for a few momentary bad decisions.

I agree in that Jorge didn't understand the importance of answering the "cousin" question. I've been focusing on the fact Jorge must be adopted. However Susanlynn, you just posed something that had not occurred to me. Andrea. Could she be the adopted one?? Very interesting.

Most here are flawed, interestingly the one that seems more "normal" than anyone is Ramon. "An unassuming household helper being left the majority of the family's wealth? NOW we are getting somewhere". Great Kirby! Love the ducks.

Cynthia, simply great. I enjoyed every single word. Thank you!

Diana

The "he tells her" quote I cited above was said by Antonio. I cut and pasted Porfirio's name there in error.

Diana

Thanks Cynthia!!!

Andrea is in architecture school so shouldn't she be in her mid twenties? Her actions and attitude are like that of a teenager!!

I can't tell if Hortensia is just a bitter, mean person or if there is some history with Juana's family we don't know about yet. Her actions are not grounded in anything.

Diana..yeah, here we go again , riding the telenovela wave of angst, troubles, and desires. Porfirio wants Marg, but Marg wants Antonio, but Antonio wants Roxy, but Roxy doesn't knowcwhat she wants..Antonio or Auggie. That last one would be an easy decision for me to make..Antonio. I need Julio to shape up and become a good guy. Will Virginia die to clear the way for Julio and Juana to end up together so that Juana's goodness can transform him into a good guy?

Hornet is a bitter , nasty person. Why? ..what happened to make her so horrible and money hungry? I am always amazed in telenovelas when older characters decide to live out their twilight years being miserable and nasty. Nice legacy to leave those you leave behind. Much better to die with those around you remembering your kindness and love.

Carvivle..yes, Andrea is presumably in her 20s , but she is acting like a lovesick teen around Jorge. QTH?

Susanlynn, the way she acted so petulantly with her parents was unnerving too. I guess we are to believe both girls are very sheltered.

Carvivle..yes, two spoiled girls, and the parents probably realized that and left Juana in charge of the money . Smart parents.

It's interesting that the 2 girls are spoiled and so is Osvaldo (to a much higher degree). The only one that is humble is Jorge.

I was thinking about why Hortensia is so bitter toward Juana. Could it be that Ricardo, Fabiola's dad, had a better, more nurturing, relationship with Juana...he definitely trusted her more than his own mother. It could be that Hortensia has always been jealous of that?

CHickie..good guess about why Hornet dislikes Juana so much besides her obviously being elitist.

Carvivlie,"sheltered" was a kind and sensitive description of Fabiola and Andrea. They were overly indulged but have good hearts and spirits to compensate.

Good point Rgv Chick. I might offer that Juana likely has a better relationship than Hortensia with just about everyone! :)

Hortensia is bitter, unpleasant and a snob. But, she loved Ricardo, which was evident when she was in her office. If she only had a kind thought once in a while she would be far more tolerable.

"Hornet" - hee, hee Susanlynn.

Diana

Diana....it is sad to be so bitter and unkind. It must be a terrible way to live.We see so many of these characters portrayed in telenovelas.

Juana is the same age as Host's kids. I wonder if Hort may have known Juana's father and had a relationship? I'm grasping at straws for why she dislikes her so much.

Hmmmmm. Interesting idea, Carvivle. Or perhaps Juana's mother had a relationship with Hornet's husband. Or maybe Hor is just a greedy, materialistic, snobbish crankypants who wants that money to stay in her family. At any rate, she is not a very nice person, and I am glad that she is not in my personal orbit. We are a suspicious bunch here on the patio, no?

Susanlynn: So you're saying Juana's Mommy has a dirty little secret eh ?

I think Hornet is just an old bitter biddy who has a stone cold heart. She's probably jealous of anyone who she perceives is a threat to the attention and love that she believes she is entitled. Everyone defends and thinks highly of Juana and she is terribly jealous of that.

Carvivlie and Susy, I had thought something along the same line. We also don't know anything about Ramon's father...he could have been much older than Juana...maybe closer to Hornet's age...or maybe Hornet was a cougar before she became a Hornet?

Thank you everyone for your comments. No Kirby, I wasn't up till 3:00 a.m. on Saturday morning writing the recap. I was only up till midnight since I am on California time. :) I didn't really get a chance to read all your comments till now because of a very busy weekend.

I am really liking the chemistry between the characters of Fabiola and Ramon. But boy, oh boy, Hortensia sure is an awful person. I am sure we will find out the reason that Ricardo and Katy left the insurance to Juana and I'm banking that it's a very, very, good reason. She is probably the only person they feel they can trust with the money. They can't trust Hortensia, or Julio and probably felt that even Antonio might not be trustworthy, not because of himself but because of Roxana maybe wanting to get her grubby paws on the cash. I'm sure they also felt that their daughters were too immature to inherit all that money at once. (I think a smarter thing to do would have been to set up a trust, but this is a TN, so it has to have this drama.)

Looking forward to tonight!
