La Candidata 9/6/17 Chapter 60: One, two, three, four deaths? And the resurrection of a Narco or Cecilia finds that all doors are now closed!
Thank you Urban for allowing me to be part of this recapping team. I feel a little sad that this TN is coming to an end but am completely thrilled with the fact that I got such an amazing episode. Also thank you to everyone who visited us on this patio, and a special thanks to Jarifa, Alfredo, Cynthia, Urban (again) and Anita for your amazing contibutions to this Blog and La Candidata Recaps.
And now on to the recap......
Alonso chiding Emiliano, tells him
“Are you going to
run to tell your mother so she can ruin your life, when it’s just beginning? “
“You have two
options go to mommy or let me help you to get rid of this problem” (referring
to Ximena’s pregnancy)
In his office Escalante sends goons to go get Lorena Sanchez, she is being
held in her apartment.
Mario tries to convince Regina not to turn him in, he uses guilt.
Regina tells him “You think I wanted this situation, you leave me no
options” to which he replies
“let me talk, you
want the truth, then let me talk, you were born in gold crib, but I built that
crib., when you are privileged you are able to talk about morals quite easily, but
not me I was born in the worst of neighborhoods, where pain and violence live
everyday with you, that is how my brother died, he was very sick he could not
get a surgery because of lack of money.
My friends and I were always sick, because there was no potable water,
no food.”
Regina wipes a tear, Mario holds tears back
” I worked hard
without measuring any consequences. Everything was allowed so that I could get
out of all that trash. But the higher I got , the more trash I found, because
everything has a price you move up by stepping on heads, then you lie, betray,
and kill anything in order not to fall”
He continues with his sob story, he wanted to be accepted by the best
families, he did it all for Regina (not to fill his pockets with filthy money,
and for power, no not at all – lying bastard!)
“I wanted you to be
who you are now, and I achieved it, and that’s how you pay me?”
Regina is too smart, she sees right thru him. She says:
“You are trying to
justify your horrors with horrors. You are trying to make me feel guilty? I did
not ask for any of this, dad!”
“Corruption, sexual
exploitation, drugs all of that is what creates poverty. It feeds this world
that you wanted to run away from. I am going to change that dad, and I have to
put you in jail”
“Are you declaring
war on me?”
“I am not declaring
war on you, you lost the war” Goes over to him wipes his tears.
“It’s important dad
that you go to jail, so that you don’t cause any more damage”.
Mario is speechless
Hernan and Cecilia are in bed.
“So if you are Mario
Barcena’s daughter, you are Regina’s sister”
“Yes her half-sister,
what I always wanted was to see Regina and my dad to the eyes and feel that I
belonged”
“You can start a new
life away from all of the trash.”
“I have done things
that have humiliated me, I did everything for my dad. Alonso humiliated me.
Regina is right I am a woman with least amount of dignity that ever existed.”
“I love you,”
“I’m sorry, I’m
sorry.”
Phone rings and Hernan is told that Cecilia’s mother was arrested.
He then tells Cecilia. She looks sick, defeated.
Mario continues trying to convince Regina to understand him.
“I was protecting
you from Alonso, he was with prostitutes so I had to protect you because if he
fell you fell and then you had the brilliant Idea and fell for that idiot”
“While you protected
me you made more money and more money.”
“Please don’t
abandon me I can help you become president”
“Leave and take
advantage because I will chase you until you are in jail, forget you ever had
this daughter”
She walks away and leaves Mario to ponder his next step.
Alonso brings a briefcase full of cash to Tere, tells her to make sure
that the baby is not born. Tere agrees. Ximena overhears the conversation, and
is petrified; Tere calls her and goes looking for her.
Mario tells Mauro that his new identity is set
“No one will know
about you or me but I need your help and your government to take the rest of my
money out of the country we can split 50/50”
“We have to erase
all of the evidence, please make sure Isela spends a long time in jail.”
He then tells Mauro he has to find Marcia, and is informed that
Escalante has Marcia. He also tells him that they have a problem because Alonso
continues to control the police. Mario thinking he still has power says he will
handle.
Tere knocking on the door to get Ximena, while Ximena tries to go out
the window but does not have enough time.
She grabs a bat to defend herself from her mom. She is so horrified, and
hits Tere hard on the head and Teresa falls unconscious.
Lorena is screaming as she is being dragged by three goons.
“Why do you do this
to me?”
“Sorry Lorena but
you are no use to anyone anymore”
“I don’t need you to
ruin Mario and Alonso”……
“You promised to protect
my sister and my nephew”
“I promise I will do
that”
He turns to leave; Lorena gets up to chase after him saying don’t
abandon me. Then one of the goons aims for her head and shoots her. She falls
dead. Escalante tells them to burn the body.
Ximena is crying to Ignacio that she killed her mom. She says Alonso
gave Tere money to force Ximena to have an abortion. Ignacio tries to calm her
down.
Regina, is telling Fernando that she needs Marcia to testify in person.
“I am embarrassed
because it’s my father, if she doesn’t testify he is going to get away with his
crimes, no judge will issue an arrest warrant without evidence and proof”
“If we don’t act my
father will get away with this, and then I will feel guilty”
Gerardo chimes in and says you know we need Marcia to declare
“Ok tell me where
and Marcia will declare tomorrow” Escalante concedes
Mario gives Mauro all of his documents to disappear but Mauro wants to
stay to prevent Alonso from becoming the president. I am doing something for someone other than
me for the first time in my life.
“If you are going to defy Alonso I wish you luck you are going to need
it.” Mario warns.
Cecilia visits Isela in jail.
“You gave your
father everything those videos, those pictures, the documents, those were my life
insurance”
“How could your dad
let you fool again? You picked him again even after all I’ve done for you.
Don’t come back, I feel sorry for you.”
Isela goes back to her cell, Cecilia is left defeated.
Ochoa is at the location where Marcia is being retrieved to go testify.
Alonso gives Ochoa the order to kill Marcia. Ochoa has his sharp shooter take
her out. The goons take off leaving Marcia on the floor dead. (Second death
this episode not liking where this is going)
Ignacio telling Gerardo that he has been looking for Teresa, she is
nowhere to be found. She is probably alive though. (No one cares, especially
Gerardo)
“How is Ximena?”
“I have to tell you something, Ximena is pregnant with Emi’s baby”
Gerardo is shocked, and disappointed.
At a police station Regina is turning her dad in. she says the witness
will be here soon. Not needed now the
detective tells her that with everything she turned in he has enough to proceed
against Mario and Alonso.
“Are you sure you want to continue with this, it is your father?”
Cecilia is quiet.
Mauro is giving a press conference, “we will be transparent, I am
replacing everyone”, Alonso hears this and is not at all happy.
Regina is worried about Marcia not showing up, Escalante tells them
that Marcia was murdered as she was being brought to testify. Escalante is sure
that it was the government.
Gerardo suggests using Isela, she can declare because she knows
everything.
Fernando gets a call that says that the news media is already talking
about Cecilia being Regina’s sister. He suggests going to defend herself in
front of the press.
News conference moves on to Alonso, he does not agree with Mauro
Olvera, and transparency was his idea anyway.
“My priority is not
my campaign, it’s the People”
“I confirm that
Cecilia is Regina’s sisters. Regina and her dad conspired to have me hire Cecilia;
Regina Barcenas has conspired against me.
She has hidden behind the flag of transparency, when in reality she used
her sister to destroy my campaign”…
Isela talking to Gerardo he offers to reduce her sentence if she helps
“Can you guarantee
that Mario goes to jail, and my sentence is lowered? Then I can confess to
everything, about my girls’ deaths everything that Mario and Alonso did, about
the Drug dealers and their relationship to Alonso’s government”
“Deal, start giving
me details”
At the campaign headquarters, Cecilia comes in to tell her that she can
help; if she can talk to her alone she is willing to help.
Mauro tells Ochoa that he has two choices work for Alonso, or work for
the government that pays his salary.
“I work for the
government”
“You understand that
I am the governor, remove Alonso’s security, double my security and bring me
all the info about his bad deeds.”
Cecilia is sitting at campaign headquarters with Regina and says
“I know all the
horrible things my dad did, I am willing to talk, and I am willing to testify”
“Strange you were
always in agreement with him”
“No I was just a pawn
on his chess board”
“You had a chance to
talk to me but you never did why?”
“I was brought up
hating you, my dad kept saying calm down I will recognize you. I dreamt with
the moment that you would find out I am your sister, You would hug me, and
there and then I would forget all the
years of pain, I want to look at your eyes and see that you accept me, do you
understand”
“I want to believe
you”
“Can you forgive me?”
“you had sex with my
son, you did this to the one person I love the most in this world, I understand
and I see that you are a victim of my father, but I can’t, I don’t know maybe
later with time.
(Haunting music in the background, it simply intensifies the pain that
Cecilia feels) Cecilia is so heartbroken, her pain is tangible.
Ignacio and Andres approach Fernando about El Cuervo and his knowledge
of the ties between the narcos (drug dealers), San Roman and Barcenas. Fernando
is now alerted and asks what ties? (this moment was the moment when the most
danger for everyone entered the realm of possibility)
Gerardo tells Regina that the DA…..will go to the end with the
investigation because Marcia’s death affected him; Regina tells him that
Cecilia will testify as well.
Daniela gets a call informing her that Mauro wants to see Regina, the
DA also called and said they can’t find Mario,
“I will go see Mauro, everything will be fine, and you look for Jose to
try to find Mario.”
Alonso tells Ochoa to watch Mauro,
“Sorry but I work for
the government, I can’t take orders from you, I work for the government and the
governor is Mauro Olvera,”
“Are you leaving me
alone?”
“I have to take all
of the official security with me, sorry”
Emi walks with Ximena to a clinic, tries to convince her not to have
the abortion.
“Are you sure, you
said you wanted to help you.”
“I am not going to
have the baby, we were not looking for this, and you don’t love me, and the
truth is that I don’t want to repeat our parents’ story. Leave! It won’t be the
first time you leave”
At Omar’s death bed Alonso talks to him. He tells Omar that they are so
alone and that he won’t get to see him become president, and he wonders if his
destiny will be the same, would Emiliano do the same thing that he is about to
do to Omar.
“I can’t decide
about your life, I hate you I hate what you turned me into. If I do it will you
forgive me? I don’t want my mother to be the one to decide went to take your
life, forgive me for crying I know you don’t like it,”
Doctor walks in “do you need more time”, “no unplug him!” cold as ice,
no feeling, no emotion, sees Omar takes his last breath. Omar moves hand, and
goes to hell!
Gerardo goes to Natalia, asks about Mario since Jose knows where he is.
We need your help, Regina and Justice need you.
Mauro talking to Regina, I have all of the information about Alonso as
long as I don’t go to jail
“You are giving me
Alonso in exchange for your freedom?”
“I am a coward; I
would not be able to be in jail”
“I don’t negotiate
with corrupt people, if you use the evidence against Alonso you need to assume
the consequences”
Jose is driving Mario, when he gets a call that there is an order to
arrest him. Tells Jose to take him home, Jose thinks it’s risky they may be
watching the house. He doesn’t care.
Ignacio and Andres, talk about how El Cuervo is dead. (3rd one)They
talk about it and they figure out that Fernando is with the narcos
Natalia calls Regina tells her that Mario went to his house and is
acting like a maniac, Regina runs out of the office.
Alonso walks in with Escalante, calls him partner
When the resurrection of El Chulo takes place, “did anyone see you?”
“Nope, people think I’m dead” Alonso is shocked.
Gerardo gets to clinic; Emi tells him that Ximena is inside.
At Mario and Noemi’s house, with the sirens of police in the
background, he kicks Noemi on the floor, Regina runs in and tells him “until
when are you going to blame others for the things you do?”
Mario pulls out a gun, “are you going to kill me or my mom?”
“Are you really adding one more murder to your list?”
Sirens continue to get closer.
Screen goes dark and all you hear is a single gunshot. (Holy crap)

Regina reacted to Cecelia exactly as I expected her to. She should not forgive her regarding Emiliano. Alonso was a cheating louse and there was no help for that, but for Cecelia to knowingly seduce her own nephew was beyond the pale. She should burn in hell for that.
Isela's rejection of Cecelia was and wasn't a surprise. She tried to make Cecelia into a younger version of herself but with only partial success.
How the hell did El Chulo fake his death? That explosion was major and awfully close to the guys who set it up. I guess we'll never know.
Most of us expected Lorena and Marcia to die. We all expected Omar to die; it's fitting that Alonso was responsible for that.
How on earth can a cop ask Regina whether she wanted her father arrested? Considering his past deeds how can a cop allow for the possibility of someone like that escaping the law? That blows my mind.

Sandie, thank you for the great recap. I'm so impressed with the actor Rafael Sánchez Navarro, who plays Alonso. The writers gave him a great scene to play after the press got wind of the latest developments. He turned everything against Regina claiming she was part of hiding her father's crimes and knew all along that Cecelia was her sister. Also the acting when he asked for the breathing tube to be removed from Omar was terrific. Cecelia has not been abandoned by her father, mother and Regina cannot forgive her. Steve, your body count is growing - how many more? Ximena went to the clinic for an abortion but do we know if it has actually been performed yet? So when and why did Alonso and Escalante decide to become partners? Was Gerardo getting too close to uncovering his drug dealings? I assume that Regina will survived the gun shot? We'll find out ...

Excellent final recap, Sandie! Things are getting very messy. 2 of the shady women characters (Lorena and Marcia) are now dead. When will the bad GUYS start dropping? Even El Chulo is still alive evidently, although El Cuervo has gotten his. The actor playing Omar did a great authentic-looking dying scene.
Lynette: I've lost count on how many people have died in this TN. If you can, can you tell me the list of people, who've gotten whacked ?
Steve, No I haven't kept track. It seems every time Mario, the former Omar or Escalante or El Chulo had a scene a few people died.

Lynette: lol your assessment about people dying every time the tyrants showed up is funny but pretty accurate. I also agree about Alonso's scenes, spectacular acting. But Silvia Navarro is the queen, her scene with Mario was heart-rending,her unbearable pain was palpable, her crying believable, and her voice so convincing. I can't wait for her next TN which according to Stevey is "Caer En Tentacion"

I wonder if they cut out some scenes between Ximena's clobbering her mother with a baseball bat because she was going to force her to have an abortion and her going to the clinic, escorted by Emiliano (at least up to the dr.'s office) to get an abortion. It seems kind of a leap between those 2 things. I would think that she must have talked to someone about an abortion before she went to get one.

SpanProf, the original series was supposed to be 80 episodes long, I am sure some of the parts of plotlines had to be sacrificed.
The whole El Chulo resurrection seemed choppy to me, we go from having Escalante tell someone on the other end of the phone that El Chulo can't be controlled you know what to do, to an explosion, to here I am. Seems something is missing there too.
There are other plotlines with lose ends as well so far, maybe they will tie them tonight and tomorrow night.

Regarding the part where Cecelia asks Regina's forgiveness, I can't say that I blame Regina. I don't think I could forgive that either, not even with the passage of time. She KNEW she was Emi's aunt, but still committed this act of incest with him.
Has there been time jumps with this story?
Chulo suddenly coming back to life was just strange. The last time we saw him, we thought he had gotten into the SUV that suddenly exploded into smitherines. There is no way he could have survived that with no injuries.
Looks like they are starting to catch on that Escalante is highly involved with the drug lords.

"I raped all those prostitutes for you, sweetheart". Mario should have to rot away in a jail cell with Omar. But Omar had the good fortune to die before things really got bad, and I'm pretty sure Mario will take out himself. He's probably a total coward without the threats his money buys.
