Upcoming Telenovelas: Stevey's Notes (Pt. III) – September 7, 2017

PART III – TELENOVELAS FARTHER OFF INTO THE FUTURE

PRODUCTION #9 - Nicandro Diaz, fresh from El Bienamado is apparently going to be doing a remake of famous telenovela from Colombia, Las Juanas, so named because it's a story about four women all named "Juana-(something)" à la Anas in TVA.

PRODUCTION #10 – José Alberto 'El Guero' Castro, who should be ashamed of himself for how little he did with a good story, great cast, and terrific setting in Vino el Amor, is hoping to try his luck with one of my favorite types of stories, that with an 'antagonist-protagonist' (think Teresa or Rubí but more evil).  The three classics he submitted to Lord High Ocampo were, apparently, La Sonrisa del Diablo, La Mujer de Judas, and, my favorite, El Angel Caido.  BUT... apparently she was having none of it, and told him that his last remakes have been, well, porquerias and fracasos and that he'd better find an original story to do, or he's off to the freezer to join Emilio Larrosa. So we'll have to wait and see what he comes up with.

PRODUCTION #11 – Carlos Moreno Laguillo, one of my favorite producers, is laying the foundation for his next production. It's being called Renacer (for now). Mexican “Fake News” seems to have made up its mind that it's going to be a remake of perhaps THE most famous and revered TV Azteca telenovela ever, Mirada de Mujer, which originally aired in 1997. Now, one would normally take such things with a grain of salt, but they all DO appear to be in agreement here, so we'll go with it. Now, the lead protagonista role is considered something of a prize plum for a mature actress, so you can imagine the rumors buzzing around—Adela Noriega! No! Thalia! No! Bibi Gaytan! No! Gaby Spanic! No! Carmen Salinas! (Umm, Hope Not!).  Actually I DO know that Srta. Spanic auditioned for the role, a big step for her considering how long she's been away from the network. However, (and Ouch!), I have it on good authority that Lord High Ocampo has effectively nixed any idea of La Spanic's participation. Anyway, as I write this, I just read that the two lead roles have been offered to Lucero and Carlos Rivera, and now everybody is just waiting to see if they accept the terms and conditions. Stay tuned.

PRODUCTION #12 - Mapat is also tinkering around with making something happen. She submitted something called El Engaño to Lord High Ocampo for approval, but that didn't happen, so apparently she's going to be doing a remake of a Brazilian novela called Entre Plumas e Paetes, about which I know nothing (I think it's about the circus, but I could be wrong). Mexican “Fake News” WAS spreading the word that she was going to be doing a remake of the classic Mariana de la Noche that would star Michelle Renaud as the protagonista and Ana Brenda Contreras in the evil villana role, Marcia, that Angelica Rivera (now First Lady of Mexico) played in the original, but I guess, well, that's why it's called Fake News. Apparently, however, Ana Brenda Contreras HAS been offered two major roles in two productions that she must choose from—the one is whatever this project of Mapat's is going to be, the other is, at this time, unknown to all.

And, last but not least...
PRODUCTION #13 - Roberto Gomez Fernandez, as of yesterday, submitted his idea to remake 1999's Tres Mujeres to Lord High Ocampo. God knows what she's going to say to that! Ok! I'll shut up now, I swear!! :-)

I really hope you guys enjoyed reading this, and found the information contained within interesting. I look forward to reading all of your comments, and hope to hear everybody's two cents!

Thanks again, and as always…my continued best wishes to you all!

Here is the last of Stevey's current list of telenovelas he knows anything about. If interested, he's posted comments on all three of the prior parts. Enjoy.

Stevey, this is just amazing--all of this information!!!! Thank you so much for the enormous amount of time it must have taken to write all of this. You are our deep throat of Televisa!

In terms of new TN's, I'm excited that Elizabeth Alvarez will be in something. I wasn't sure if she would come back after giving birth to twins.

Anything Osvaldo Benavides is in I want to watch. I loved him Robo and think he is quite a good actor.

Sorry to hear AB is out. Interesting that they would recast her role with Mayrin. She is older and a much different type physically too. I can see why casting around the show would now change.

The 5 father show doesn't sound too interesting to me, even with SR's muscles and blue eyes.

I'm kinda blah about a lot of the shows. I'm not a fan of Esmeralda Pimentel. I've only seen her in Ramon--right now. She's okay. Irina Baeva does nothing for me. The girl from Despertar Contigo does nothing for me. I find them straight forward and boring--interchangeable.

Thanks, Stevey, for all the latest on the upcoming tns.

carvivle..yeah, what she said. I will really miss some of these actors and actresses. AB has a lot of sizzle as a bad girl, but she is also convincing as a good girl. I like some of the newer you guns ,but some are just...meh. Where is Lucero? Fernando? BIg Ed? I miss them all.

Thanks for all the info Steve. Tho Im not familiar with these actors and actresses until I see their faces I'll look forward to seeing some of them.

You spent a lot of time gathering this
Imformation and its appreciated.Thanks
Again.

Thank you Stevey. Nicandro Díaz has been trying to do Las Juanas for years now. I'm not sure he is the right person for the job. I saw the version TV Azteca made years ago. (The original is from Colombia) It was cute. In the story a man, Calixto, spends time of his youth having romantic affairs with several women, in spite of being married and having a son. He told them all the same story about his father or grandfather named Juan and unbeknownst to him they all became pregnant by him. All the women had girls and, to honor the man, they gave them the name Juana as the first of their two names.

When the oldest one decides as an adult to look into who her father was this leads to a chain of events that gets all the Juanas together. Calixto is overcome with feelings of guilt at seeing them and asks them to stay in his hometown for a few months so he can get to know them.

So the story is mostly about five different young women, with very different upbringings, jobs and aspirations, meeting each other, learning to live with each other, becoming friends and eventually becoming family. They all have their own love stories (and their love interests were all likeable) but their bond is the main storyline.

What I really liked about the Azteca version was that they felt real, the town looked like a real small town in middle Mexico, the girls all talked like real life people and their interactions made sense. It did have some comedic elements and wacky characters but the acting wasn't exaggerated so they didn't seem that cartoonish. It's not meant to make you laugh like crazy but more like chukle with the charm.

I'm not sure Nicandro could make this without turning some of the interactions too cartoonish and over the top and the town excessively shiny and colourful. The "wacky" characters could become annoying. Also important: The Azteca version changed some things that wouldn't make sense in 2005 since the original was made in the early 90's. Nicandro would probably make the town be lost in some space-continuum loop like El Bienamado, where some characters acted like it was the 1920's.

By the way, speaking of El Bienamado, the actor who played Homero in that novela, Andrés Palacios, played the only son of Calixto in Las Juanas. He was soo handsome (I still think he is) and the character was very likeable.

I just wanted to stop by and thank you for putting all this together for us. It is an effort clearly appreciated.

I'm am an absolute lover of SR but will definitely pass on his new novela. How could he cut those gorgeous locks? It's almost a crime! I could barely watch him and his butch cut in AV.

I don't see Lucero giving up her cushy billionaire boyfriend and children.

I'm posting this late but hope that Stevey is still reading the comments and can answer the question:

Who the hell is left with an Exclusivity Agreement at Televisa?

It seems as if the Dictator booted everyone from the previously untouchable FC, to the beloved SN, to the fantastically versatile AB, and guapísimo SR.

Thank goodness for YouTube.

I now spend my time watching previous novelas I missed at the time of their original airing and that I find worthwhile and, at times, re-watching some of my favorites which never seems to bore me.

Also, I'm sure I'll go back to reading real books--NOT listening to some irritating voice trying to narrate twenty-some odd characters. And thinking along those lines, how I miss the sound and feel of page turning !!

Stevey what a true asset you are to all us Caraymates. !!!!!

You put so much time, energy, and work into all this information for us. The inter-workings at Televisa were so much fun to read and so GREAT & APPRECIATED. !!! Who can guess at your sources to provide such "inside" information ???

Based on all your in-depth information, I'll definitely try to catch:

1) CAER EN TENTACIÓN -- I can't pass up Silvia Navarro and Gabriel Soto. And anything by GG is probably worthwhile.

2) EN TIERRAS SALVAJES. With Diego Olivera, Cristián de la Fuente, Horacio Pancheri -- 3 dudes worth watching!!!

3) EL VUELO DE LA VICTORIA. I'll give Nathalie Lartilleux another try. It may sound mean, but PG's buckteeth bother me. The other actors I don't know much about.

I'll definitely pass on

4) MI MARIDO TIENE FAMILIA
5) PAPÁ A TODA MADRE. -- Sounds like a poor regurgitation of well received “Three Men and a Baby”. And SR will lose one fan with this one.

Again Stevey, thank you for your generosity. I'm too loquacious like you.
Vikki

Stevey, I only found your articles now and have been reading them from top to bottom - this has been hugely interesting and helped me understand some of the articles I read on other news outlets.
I have to admit some of the future tns look interesting. I'm watching Tierra salvaje right now and I find it quite ok.
The one story that I'm most looking forward to is the one about the Juanas.
Jarocha, your summary makes this sound like a great premise, I hope ot does get picked up.
The behind the scenes are a mess- if they kick out Angelique Boyer and Silvia Navarro, the IT protagonistas who are far apart enough in age not to create a rivarly over the same parts then nobody is safe. Some of the new girls are just pretty faces and none had a truly major star making hit. The young men are even worse, I can't even think of one that is a truly good actor.
And what they are doing to their older stars is beyond comment.
That being said, I get that Televisa is no longer willing to pay their stars for doing nothing. I wonder what took them so long seeing how they've been in crisis for a while now.

Oh and once again, thank you, Stevey, you're awesome!

Thanks, Stevey. It's been fun getting the inside scoop from you. I never know which TN will grab ahold of me, but I'm betting Me declaro culpable with Juan Soler and Daniela Castro as villains will be must-see TV.

Oh Boy! Thanks for this work up....... and

"...his last remakes have been, well, porquerias and fracasos and that he'd better find an original story to do, or he's off to the freezer to join Emilio Larrosa. LMAOROTF!!!
============================
Renacer (for now) - Lucero and Carlos Rivera?? Yeah. I'd be in for that one I suppose. CR is a honey.

But ITA totally with Victoria Gomez about 1-3 if and when they arrive.

Glad to see such interest in these "in depth" review-opinion essays from Stevey. The way he describes all, I'm definitely intrigued. There just aren't enough hours in the night to watch all of these. Thank goodness they come to us overlapping.

Here's my line-up from MustWatchTV to I'llJustDropIn.

1. Caer en Tentacion - Must Watch the actors AND the story
2. Me Declaro Culpable - Must Watch the actors AND the story
3. En Tierras Salvajes - Must Watch the actors, don't care about the story (I think)
4. El Vuelo de la Victoria - I'll drop in regularly to see The Perils of Paulina (without Horacio), but not 100% committed.
5. Papa a Toda Madre - I'll just drop in to watch Sergio Mur when he's in a scene.

6. Bella y Bestia - Not interested
7. Sin tu Mirada - Maybe, because updates are sometimes better than the original

Jardinera--I'm with you. Anything by Carlos Moreno Laguillo and icing on the cake would be Lucero and Carlos Rivera. I hope he gets them signed.

I hope you all start thinking about which ones merit recapping. With closed captioning accessible to nearly the whole tv viewing public, do we need to recap all of them? It's a tough slog to get commitments for one night a week for 7+ months. Alfredo can't carry them all alone.

Perhaps we can ask for a vote and the top three get recapped. I don't know. Does anyone have a better suggestion? Of course, everyone's viewing tastes are different, but we can always do what Telemundo does and list the titles and then let loose in the comments section for anyone who wants to give short recaps (or none) and provide room for discussion.

On the business side of Caray, I've tried and tried to get Jane our Blog Mom to respond to requests to make the necessary changes to the side board to reflect the new line-ups without success. I know she is a busy lady with other interests, but, without the links to the episode chart, we are forced to pick the month and scroll through everything. AND, the titles of the tns that are finished don't appear in the alphabetical list.

If there is anyone out there who knows how Blogger works (or who to contact), please let me know and we can give it a whirl. I know there is a way--I just don't want to mess up anything that's already there without knowing what I'm doing.

Stevey: I read your fabulous reviews. I loved them and feel you've missed your true mark.

That aside, whomever it might have been to have thrown over the one Spanish actor supposedly for his remarks, could have done it simply because he seems totally wrong when commparing chemistry in the auditions with the lead actress for the part--I myself wouldn't have picked him for the role on looks-ism alone. The camera simply does not like this poor dude. Now, the other actor they did choose I believe is currently the lead in a popular HBO latin telenovela. He has oodles of charisma on screen and it might be the reason. I should like to add in Spain's defense --my son now having become an expat to Spain's lovely Costa del Sol --Al Andalus-- and I, having majored in history before receiving my M.L.A. (in the last quarter of LAST century)-- would suggest that if one reviews Spanish history and what transpired there during the 800 years it took to throw off the Muslim yoke. One would quickly understand the why and wherefore of the actor's remarks and that he's probably representative of the majority of Spanish thinking currently. If one really wants to know what the actor was getting at and where his head was, I suggest a review of the "Reconquista" --and not out of Wikipedia or off any website. Try a Spanish history book written by a Spaniard. When one realizes that fanatic, militaristic Muslims are just across the Straits of Gibraltar, that they surround Ceuta and Milella, it is much easier to understand that Spanish actor's anger and distrust. IMHO.

Anita,
I vote for the top 3. I'd love to assist. I know that it's rough to do more than 3 at any time on the blog.

As for Jane and the Blogspot, she's got the keys to the kingdom. I have an IT programming friend who might understand Blogger better as he has sites and servers of his own and could probably assist us all and then I might be able to get Jane's ok to change it. (Right now, however, I am struggling with Irma's aftermath. I'm stranded at in-laws in Mobile due to traffic and gas scarcity for the trip back to FTM/Naples, FL. Definitely will follow up with you on blogging options!!

Isn't Carlos Rivera a little young for Lucero?

I’m still in shock over ALL the exclusivity agreements that "La Dictadora" has broken: a good many of these actors have won "Premios" and have starred in many block-buster novelas:. for example, Fernando Colunga has won 3 ACE awards, 5 TVyNovelas awards, and another 7 TVyNovelas nominations. Isn't that the most any telenovela actor has won?
Oh my, Eduardo Yáñez, Jorge Salinas, Fernando Colunga, Sebastián Rulli, Angelique Boyer,.......... Just to name a few. I don't think Televisa will be the same without them.

Oh, gracious, Jar. I hope everything is as you left it. We'll think positive thoughts for you and your loved ones. Thank goodness Mobile didn't get walloped as well. Here in Maryland, we're getting some of the remnants of Irma--which amounts to a little rain.

Yes, let's get together on Google mail later, when you are all settled back and can deal with Caray.

Victoria Deane Gómez-Wright:
"Isn't Carlos Rivera a little young for Lucero?"
ITA!!! I was thinking exactly that and thought maybe I misunderstood the object within the basic premise of the story. However, I remember that some of the middle-aging actresses, like Adela Noriega, played opposite younger actors or, rather played 19-20 somethings once or twice and then hung up their spurs. I figure this might be Lucero's possible situation as well. Dunno. So, Carlos Rivera is a handsome hunk of eye candy and I'll watch if he acts as good as he looks. The age difference will have to be reasonably explained or camouflaged.....

Jar--you must have missed Carlos Rivera in Hotel de los Secretos. We all swooned. He also sings well!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npI4PIO5ij0

Carlos actually sang (IMO not very good) for the Pope during the Pope during the Pope's visit to Mexico.

After EHDLS he said he wasn't going to act anymore so he could dedicate 100% of his time to singing: which he does very well but http as high a level as others IMHO.
