MMTF Episode 16, 9/12/2017 Part 1

Julieta is at her mom’s house talking to Diana, her sister-in-law. Julieta thinks it’s time Hugo get a job and pay her as well as Diana…he needs to stop depending on them. She tries to convince Diana that the power women have over men is incredible and she, being a teacher, knows how to teach, so should be use those skills with Hugo, but Diana fears losing him. Julieta assures her that Hugo is still in love with her. She worries that when she leaves to New York, her mother will only make things worse.

Later, Hugo comes in and kisses Diana who is working on some papers. When he makes advances, she gives him the cold shoulder and tells him she loves him, but she wants to get a job so she can admire him and he can be supportive…or they are through. She grabs him by his ear and tells him if he wants kisses, love and her as his woman, he is going to have to earn it. In the living room, Julieta and her mom are arguing. Julieta has given them much of her life and all she has gotten is criticisms and reproaches. Her mother tries to convince her no to leave because her brothers need her, but Julieta already has the tickets and asked for her leave from work. Julieta points out to her mother that she is only hurting her brothers, they don’t mature because she doesn’t let them. Her mother admonishes her for talking like that and wonders what Julieta’s heart is made of…or if she even has one. Just then, Robert calls and Julieta explains that she is at her mother’s to talk to her before they leave for New York. When she tries to tell him how they exploit her, Robert tells her he needs to talk to her and she can tell him the rest then. When Julieta asks him what’s wrong, he tells her he just needs to talk to her and it needs to be in person, so she worries. When Julieta hangs up, she sees her mother crying because she is hurt by the way Julieta treats her and doesn’t know what she is going to do if she leaves. Julieta tries to console her and reminds her she has her pension and she will be with her favorite children. Catalina tries to give Julieta a guilt trip by telling her that she is going to leave her alone like a dog…she is everything to her; and if she leaves, it’ll be like getting the Egyptian plagues. Julieta blames herself for the way her mom and brothers have become …she did so many things for them and she shouldn’t have. Julieta adds that her mother has no idea how much it hurts her that she only cries because she won’t be receiving any more of her money…more than a daughter, she is her cash register.

At the foundation, Robert looks at David, the little boy who was burned and remembers himself banging on the door at the orphanage. While David sleeps, Robert says that if they can’t find his mother, they won’t be able to keep him there.

Robert and Blanca are pensive as theyh walk toward each other near the Córsega. As they get closer, they look at each other endearingly as Blanca asks, “Is it you?” and Robert replies, “Yes, it is me, Mamá.” Blanca gets teary-eyed, as she visualizes her little boy running to her, arms reaching for her, as she hugs him and tells him she loves him. Mother and son hug each other for the first time in 34 years as she drops her bag to hold him closer. They both cry and hold each other as Blanca calls him her baby and he calls her “mother.” Blanca thanks him and kisses him. She pleads with him to let her touch him as she caresses his face.

MMTF Episode 16, 9/12/2017 Part 2

Marisol enters Daniela’s room as Dani completes a resumé so she can look for a job. When Dani sees that Marisol just keeps looking at her, Marisol calmly tells her that Juan Pablo appeared. As Daniela turns pale, Marisol tells her that the most incredible thing is yet to be revealed…he’s the neighbor from across the hall. Dani suddenly realizes why she always felt something every time she saw him. She reveals what this means for her…she always felt guilty because he got lost because of her. Marisol shares that no one from the family has talked to him yet; their mother is worried about how he will react. Dani, still in disbelief, remembers that since the first time she saw him, she felt he was a good person. Marisol agrees, but both their mother and grandmother fear he will not accept them.

Outside, Blanca can’t help crying and touching her son, he is so beautiful. She wonders how she didn’t notice those marvelous eyes. She then confesses that she has felt so guilty for what happened and for his being away from them for so long. She asks for his forgiveness, but Robert assures her that it wasn’t her fault. He was always fine because he found people that took good care of him. Blanca will always be grateful to them. She missed him every second of her life…there was no moment at night or during the day that she didn’t think of him, and she asked God to protect him. Robert dreamed of this and knows she will not lose him. Blanca shares that she lost him at the market and it was horrible…she felt that her soul was torn away. She promises to dedicate the rest of her life to take care of him and asks for another hug which he gladly gives her.

Linda is at work while Bruno and Corny-o scheme to set her up because of all the lies she told Corny-o.

AS they enter the building, Blanca tells Robert how all the family is waiting to see him. His grandmother is very excited, but Robert doesn’t know if he is prepared. Blanca thinks no one is ever prepared for anything, he just needs to meet them to say hello. Blanca then tells Robert he has two aunts, who she hasn’t told yet. Then she names his uncles and thinks Ana will be very happy to see him (viewerville knows better). When Robert excuses himself from meeting the family because Julieta is waiting for him, Blanca gasps, “Julieta, I haven’t even had time to think about her…she doesn’t like us…tell her everything that has happened has been erased.” Blanca reassures Robert that she will try to get along with Julieta, not criticize her, and get to know her better. She then promises to make sure that, from now on, no one will separate them.

At Catalina’s house, Julieta and her mother listen as Diana asks Hugo if he willing to do his part for their relationship. Catalina is dismayed and attempts to intervene, but Julieta tells her to leave them alone. She chides her mother for turning Hugo into a parasite. Diana demands that Hugo needs to look for a job and while he looks, he needs to wash and iron because she is not his mother or his slave. Catalina thinks Diana is being harsh, but Julieta reminds her how she complained about her own mother-in-law who was always meddling. Catalina would like to tell Julieta what she deserves, but she believes in karma and the bad luck might strike her. Julieta thanks all the stars that she doesn’t have a mother-in-law…if she had a mother in-law that was a witch like Diana’s she would die. Catalina is shocked that Julieta called her a witch and pretends to faint, fanning herself.

MMTF Episode 16, 9/12/2017 Part 3

Robert goes in with Blanca as she calls Imelda, but Audifaz, Polita and Aristótles come out. Audifaz hugs him and tells him he always knew he would return. He introduces Polita who tells him his mother cried a fountain of tears for him; her own mother knows where she is, but has never looked for her. Audifaz then introduces Aristótles who notes that there are now two male grandsons. Imelda comes in and tells him he has been missed, She can’t believe he had been in the USA. She recalls things about his childhood—he loved chocolate donuts and would fall asleep in her arms…now he is a handsome, educated, healthy man. She wants to know that he needed them as much as they needed him and asks him to forgive them for all their errors. Marisol and Dani, who have come out to see Robert, watch and cry as their grandmother dotes on Robert. Robert tells them he always missed them…he didn’t know them but he still missed them. He never imagined he had such a big family. When Imelda continues to cry, he worries that she’ll get sick and thanks her for waiting for him. Blanca introduces him to his sisters—first, Marisol who is accompanied by Frida, then Dani who was born the day he got lost. Audifaz tells him that life has been horrible for Dani and Polita comments that they never celebrated her birthday. Robert promises Dani that from now on they will have the best birthday celebrations for her. Blanca tells Dani she doesn’t have to suffer anymore.

At Belén’s store, Amalia wonders why Belén doesn’t order clothes in her size…she is her sister and doesn’t even know how difficult it is to be her. Amalia complains that even the chairs are small…she is tired of going through life half-sitting, half everything. Belén apologizes but Amalia interprets as her feeling sorry for her. She gets angry and chases Belén around the store telling her that this big woman is going to fall on her. When Amalia composes herself, she apologizes and Belén promises to remove her from the dating site.

Roberts sits eating with his family as they stare at him. He thanks them for receiving him with such love, but he needs to leave. There is still someone who doesn’t know they are his family and she is waiting for him. Imelda thanks him for taking time to be with them and for calling her grandmother. As Blanca walks him out, she invites him and Julieta for dinner. She is very willing to like her and change her attitude toward her. There is one more thing she wants to ask…after all this, is he still thinking about going to New York? Robert explains that Julieta has everything prepared, but Blanca would like him to stay there longer to get to know him and give him her love. Robert tells her he has to discuss it with Julieta and thinks that the important thing is that they are there, face-to-face, now getting to know each other.

Back inside, Imelda thinks Robert is marvelous, but Dani’s mood is questionable. Frida likes him too and he knows their special song. As Audifaz wonders what he thinks of them, Blanca tells them she asked him about leaving to New York. Imelda wants him to stay…they need time to get to know him. Everyone agrees. Eugenio tells them Robert has to continue with his life, but Blanca thinks that Robert isn’t that excited about leaving –he is doing it for the girl he lives with. Imelda thinks they should live in peace and follow the divine rules of life, but Marisol wonders whether people should get married if they are happy just living together. Eugenio warns them not them to pressure Robert or meddle in his life, but Imelda won’t take orders from anyone. She will make sure they will help Robert straighten out his life.

MMTF Episode 16, 9/12/2017 Part 4

Robert goes to pick up Julieta. While he waits, Catalina gives him an earful about how much she needs Julieta, so he invites her to go visit them in New York. This makes Catalina very happy, but when Julieta finds out, she is quite perturbed. When Robert asks her to count so she can calm down, Julieta thinks she could count to 70 and it still wouldn’t help.

Back at Blanca’s, Eugenio says that this has been a day full of emotions and thinks they should go rest, but Blanca doesn’t want to sleep because she is afraid to wake up and find that this has all been a dream. When the doorbell rings, Dani goes and opens the door for Ignacio who comes in trying to keep away from Dani who is trying to hit him. Everyone is surprised to see Ignacio, who arrived after all the food was put away, so Imelda tells Marisol to serve her husband.

At a dance club, Linda shakes her bootie as Bruno, who is there as a DJ, watches her and seems to enjoy what he is seeing. After the song finishes, Linda goes up to the musicians and praises them. She requests they play another song. After that song finishes, the group has a contest and they present Linda as the queen who will entice and challenge men to keep their blood pressure below 100. Two young men lose before Bruno appears in the limelight and walks up slowly…he wins the contest and a necklace that he refuses to give to Linda. She is quite shocked…

Blanca calls Ana and tells her she found her son. Ana sounds flabbergasted. Blanca tells her Eugenio found him and it’s the neighbor, Dr. Robert. Ana asks how Eugenio found him and wonders if she has talked to him. Blanca tells her they talked, they cried, but she would rather tell her in person, so Ana agrees to go over. After she congratulates Blanca and hangs up, Ana falls back on her bed and screams in anguish while hitting her head with her hands.

Robert and Julieta are sitting on a park bench as she admires and thanks him for being so patient wither mother. Robert then starts his own speech. For days he has had some suspicions, but didn’t want to say anything until he had the DNA results…he found his real parents. Julieta thinks it’s marvelous and wants to meet them…she wants to know about them and where they are. Robert takes a deep breath and tells her they live in front…they are the Córsegas. Julieta laughs, then asks, “Seriously?” When Robert reminds her that he told her they had lost a son, Julieta asks, “You are their lost son?” Robert replies, “They are my parents.” Julieta looks dazed and is speechless.

Just fabulous! Thank you, Rgvchick.

I liked:

Julieta telling Diana to take control and her mother how it is.

Blanca is starting with a clean slate with Julieta for love of Robert. Now if Julieta can be as patient with her. . .

Belén complaining to Amalia about the sizes of clothing she sells and what it is like being her.

I didn't like:

Having to wait until tonight for Julieta's reaction to the "news."

Observation:

Ana spends a lot of time lying on her bed and wailing, flailing, and crying. This is the second topime we have seen it.

When you read a short story that is complete in all its detail, written with heart and soul, there is little to do but savor the sweetness. Your recap was that for me Rgv Chick.

No need to rewrite anything you wrote. I'll simply comment on but a few of your marvelous lines.

"Blanca gets teary-eyed, as she visualizes her little boy running to her, arms reaching for her, as she hugs him and tells him she loves him". The past and the present blended together beautifully. I can't fathom anyone could have watched that and not have been moved.

"She missed him every second of her life…there was no moment at night or during the day that she didn’t think of him". The joy. "Audifaz tells him that life has been horrible for Dani and Polita comments that they never celebrated her birthday". The agony.

I was beyond dismayed to read that. They never celebrated Dani's birthday? I am shocked she wasn't permanently emotionally scarred. It seems out of character that they didn't at least do another day or simply do anything!

I thought Blanca showed remarkable love and even more restraint when she didn't demand/expect anything from Robert, but simply asked: "...Blanca would like him to stay there longer to get to know him and give him her love". How on earth could he refuse. On the other hand "Imelda won’t take orders from anyone. She will make sure they will help Robert straighten out his life". Wonderful. I'm sure Julieta will be thrilled. The cherry on the sundae.

I don't have any great affection for (and little interest) in Julieta's family thus far. The amazing Olivia Buco is always fun to watch but the character is over the top melodramatic. I find Robert's family far more intriguing.

I wish Amalia had gone about it differently but she has a valid point. Here she is in business with her sister, yet they have no merchandise that will fit her. Perhaps a more inclusive size range might be in order.

The only thing I can fault Osario for is for giving his son Aristótles a role with no part to play. I think the kid has acting talent but he is being relegated to simply standing and nodding for the most part. Give the kid a few lines dad.

Grab that pillow and scream all you want Ana. What's done is done. Better start channeling your fear and rage into hoping your part is never discovered. You will have but a small taste of what Robert's family has endured for years.

Linda/Bruno? Not enough info at this point. Thinking I'm still preferring Gabe and Dani.

Diana Bracho is the new Adela Noriega. Her soft expressions and emotions so pure and clear, you cannot help but melt.

I have a feeling Robert's joy was tempered (just a tad) by the fact he knew he had yet to face Julieta. So, fight or flight? We'll soon find out.

RgvChick, thank you for this incredible summary!

Diana

"Blanca is starting with a clean slate with Julieta for love of Robert. Now if Julieta can be as patient with her. . .

Thank you for reemphasizing that point Jarifa.

Blanca is ready to start over. I am really hoping Julieta might do the same. The truth? I'm a bit concerned.

Diana

Diana, ITA about young Osorio. I have always thought he was talented and am hoping he gets to do more as time goes on.

One more thing, Juan Pablo reappearing just might psychologically free Daniela for the inherent guilt she has carried eventhough she was not responsible for his kidnapping. Might we see a happier Daniela without that albatross around her neck. I am sure hoping so.

Will Robert keep his adoptive name or change it back to his birth name?

Done for now.

One thing that really annoys me and we see it over and over: last night it was Catalina telling Diana that her husband had arrived and to take care of him. Why???? And these women actually do it! Then they wonder why these guys treat them so poorly and have no respect for them. Just had to get that off my chest. Think I am done for today. : )

Just to let you guys know I am working on catching up and will begin commenting when I get there.

Good morning Rgv Chick.

I see that a coupe of days ago I dyslexically referred to you as "Rvg Chick." Sorry. . .

Well, we got another one of your complete, insightful and entertaining recaps. You just keep churning them out. Thank you.

The Spanish closed captions were way out of whack last night, and I depend on them heavily, so your efforts are doubly appreciated.

I have no idea where some of these story lines are going. I guess we are all glad to see Ana writhing in angst.

I don't know what to think of Amalia's complaint about her sister not even ordering clothes in her size. Businesses exist to make a profit, and presumably Belen ordered stuff she could sell profitably. Although, she might be able to carry "plus" sizes, and advertise this, making her store the go to place for that size of clothing.

I hope Dani can now see Robert/JP as her champion and protector instead of the millstone on her shoulders that he has been for her whole life.

Julieta is going to have some soul searching to do. I think if she will step back and compare her own family to Robert's, she will be able to accept them more readily. I think she gave her sister-in-law and her mother some good advice, but heaven knows how that will turn out. Her brother seems quite comfortable living off the hard work of others, or, as OUR Diana said above, "I don't have any great affection for (and little interest) in Julieta's family so far."

Jarifa: "I don't like: Having to wait until tonight for Julieta's reaction to the news." I don't either, but it will cause all of us to be sitting in front of our TV's tonight, won't it? ;)

Thanks again, Rgv Chick.

David

Thanks so much RGV!!!!! I think I cried through almost the whole episode. All of the emotions and such with Rob combined with my tiredness made me a tear fest.

I really didn't care much about Diana, Hugo or Catalina. I just wanted to get to the Rob scenes. I'm sure they and Bruno will be taking on bigger roles.

Diana, I'm sure Emilio has a good character arc coming. He had a good one in MCET.

I'm not banking on Blanca's words that all is forgotten with Juli. She is super happy and forgiving now but I don't expect it to last.

Jarifa, hmmmm. Couldn't agree with you more about Catalina's pushing Julieta to "tend" to Robert. How last century. Also, does she not know her daughter at all??

I'm on the fence here, as I can criticize Eugenio for very little, but I feel I need to say it.

Eugenio also asked Marisol to get her husband a plate. Grrr. Of course this is even more outlandish in view of what Ignacio did to Marisol. Which Eugenio doesn't know.

Still, I thought he was more enlightened.

Poor Dani can now breathe easier. I'm still surprised the family didn't find a way to celebrate her all these years, in some loving fashion.

Diana
Diana

David, yes, the store should definitely carry Womens/Plus sizes.

The idea of a woman selling clothes to others in a size she herself wears is very appealing.

Having a size 18 sales person assisting a customer who actually (gasp) wears a size 18 herself would be a huge draw. I'm sure there are a few potential customers out there if the general population is any indication :)

Urban, glad you will be watching. I thought there might be a few more folks joining now that LC has ended.

Diana

Thank you, Chickie.

Daniel A. Has found his niche playing the sweetest galan ever. Type casting? Wouldn't that be nice to learn that he is as goodhearted and kind in real life as he is in this story.

Sorry that I am not on the patio as much as usual..Outlander season three started last Sunday night.

Urban..Glad that you will be joining us. I have missed you!

David, it would be nice to see a special alliance between Robert and Daniela.

Diana, yes, Eugenio is guilty of the same thing. Just makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. LOL ITA that plus sizes could result in "plus" sales.

Urban, great to hear you will be joining us.

thank you Rgv, like David I also depend on the CC which have been all caps and lagging...

I don't have much to add to all the comments, I just want to be counted as one who appreciates all the observations and thoughts. I am curious how the writer of the series will continue make the family members distinct, fleshing out their relationships with the new family members.

I am team Julieta, I love Blanca but I don't think "all is forgotten". I can imagine her hard eye roll when Eugenio tells her to serve her man...

the Amalia/Belén side story is strong but the Ana one is boring.

anyway, I guess I do have something to say... but especially Thank You to all the recappers and commenters

(please tell me I'm not the only one seeing multiple airings of "CenarSinCelular" commercials... I miss Hulu)

I give Eugenio a pass because he thinks Iggie has been working hard all day and needs to sit and rest, while Marisol has been with them all day. If it was more than that, like Catalina's rants, I'd make a big objection.

Your welcome to everyone!

I agree with everyone about Cat and Eugenio telling the women to take care of their men. Watching Diana go after Hugo was fun though...and her pulling his ear, I gasped. Julieta told us she is a teacher and wanted her to use those skills on Hugo...I sure hope she isn't pulling her students' ears like that...if she were here in the USA, she get fired and be in the news.

Jarifa, I like and agree with your likes/dislike list. Tonight should be really interesting...can't wait to see Julieta's follow-up reaction. I do think Blanca will try to like Juliet, but like Rena stated, " I love Blanca but I don't think "all is forgotten" she may have a few slips and falls before she truly accepts Julieta.

Diana, "Poor Dani can now breathe easier. " and David, "I hope Dani can now see Robert/JP as her champion and protector instead of the millstone on her shoulders that he has been for her whole life." I sure hope so, but the way she looked at the dinner table when Imelda was praising Robert caught my attention. I couldn't pinpoint exactly what it was that made me feel uneasy, maybe someone else noticed and has some thoughts.

Carvivlie, I used several tissues last night too. what a great performance DB and DA gave...I do hope they get the recognition they deserve when award time comes around.

Susy, I have seen as many TNs as most here at Caray, but I agree, DA IS the sweetest galan I have ever seen...I do hope he remains on my pedestal for the entire TN. I don't want to jinx it, but I'm really surprised there has been a rival for Julieta.

Urban, so glad you're joining the patio. I look forward to your comments.

Susy, meant to say I have NOT seen as many TNs...

Hmm..serving the men. I must say that back in the day, I usually got my daddy's coffee and plate ready for him, but he was a farmer and also worked a full-time job as a machinist\ toolmaker, so he deserved a little waiting on.

Thanks, Rgv Chick. Thanks for all the detail.

I am so not interested in Julieta's family. Everything comes to a halt when they're onscreen, but I hope we'll see their purpose soon.

Eugenio is my favorite. I like the way he told the ladies not to pressure Robert about staying, even though we know he wants him to stay as much as they do.

Yay, Blanca is willing to start from scratch with Julieta.

On Cat and Eugenio telling the women to take care of their men, definitely sexist, but I admit it happens sometimes in my own family of very very liberated women. None of us takes it seriously, but when we do fix a plate, say for Thanksgiving, we make a big flourish of it as a gag. In Cat's case, she's simply a fool. In Eugenio's case, maybe he's hanging onto old tradition a bit too much, but we don't see Blanca making his plate. I'm thinking Eugenio was overcompensating because he doesn't like Ignacio and was trying to make the fool feel welcome. One of the reasons Marisol is acting so cagey about the divorce is because the family warned her against Ignacio before she went ahead and married him.

Urban, glad to hear we'll start seeing you here.

Susanlynn, IMHO it's vastly different wanting to serve/wait on someone you love versus being told to do so. Those directives seem often aimed at women, who are on their feet and are just as tired, whether home, in the office or wherever.

From what you've said about your father, he sounds like a wonderful man. If I knew someone like him who took care of every stray that wandered into their home, I'd even offer to cook, do their laundry as well as serve :)

RgvChick, yes, Dani was clearly uncomfortable. I felt she was experiencing a feeling similar to survivor's guilt...while I know her family loved her, she may feel like a constant, hurtful reminder as to why they "lost" him. My heart went out to her.

And was it you who had mentioned Blanca's clothes the other day? Good heavens, that horrible outfit must be ready to walk away. She's had it on for a week! :)

Diana

"In Eugenio's case, maybe he's hanging onto old tradition a bit too much, but we don't see Blanca making his plate".

No. We aure aren't Niecie. Great point.

Doing most anything for those we love never seems to be a chore does it? Well, 99% of the time.

Diana

Diana..Your last sentence. So true. Sometimes we serve to show that we love...however, no reason to love Iggy. Let that cheater get his own food !!

Diana...Blanca's sisters own a women's clothing store!!! Time for a Blanca makeover.

Diana, "I felt she was experiencing a feeling similar to survivor's guilt.." that could very well be, but IMO there is something more, I keep visualizing her expression when Imelda said she didn't Robert should leave on his...it would be absurd for him to leave now. Daniela immediately asked why it would be absurd so Imelda responds that they need time to get to know him. Daniela had this look of worry? ambivalence? Could she fear that Robert would stay? Maybe she fears that any attention she has been getting, although mostly negative, would be reverted to him? Or maybe she fears that he will be one more person who will eventually blame her for being apart from his family?

"In Eugenio's case, maybe he's hanging onto old tradition a bit too much, but we don't see Blanca making his plate"." Very true, but I do remember one scene when they were in the bakery...Eugenio scolded her for something or prohibited her from doing something. It could have been the scene where she gets the call from Robert that Julian was in jail and she had to go give a statement...anyway, Eugenio seemed to talk down to her which gave me the impression that he was hanging on to old traditions.

Oh and on the clothing, yes, I did mention Blanca's clothes and when Dani gave her money and she went shopping; even Belen told her she needed to wear brighter colors.

BTW, have you all noticed Ana's huge necklaces" It's like she's punishing herself and puts on her own "yoke." And last night, when Blanca told her Eugenio had found Robert, she yanked it off...maybe there will soon be no need for the yoke??? ...if she confesses and repents...

RgvChick, I don't believe that Dani wants or craves attention of any kind. So much about her, her manner, her dress, her hair seems to indicate that she is tough and strong, needing nothing. Her demeanor seems to indicate she wishes to be left alone.

I would think your words about Robert being one more person to blame her might be closer to the truth.

From the "I wish I'd said that" corner, "Blanca's sisters own a women's clothing store!!! Time for a Blanca makeover". Absolutely! And there you have it Susanlynn!

Diana

Rgv Chick, yes, the necklaces! Hideous all. And I think she is punishing us far more than herself. After all, we have to look at them (as opposed to her only having to sport them) :)

Ana can confess and repent all she wants. No forgiveness from me. If her family forgives her, God bless.

Diana

Those big necklaces were very popular for awhile , but now they seem to be losing popularity. I have seen them on several actresses in the last few years.

So..what messages are we getting from this telenovela from all these women who seem to outnumber the men (Eugenio, Robert, Odd Audifaz yUcky Iggy Juliet's loser brother, Conceited Gabe) Lots of sisters.

I think Dani does crave love and attention and she hasn't gotten it so she has become closed off and tough. Her abuela didn't want to celebrate her birthday. And we know abuela has admitted to thinking only of JP and not getting to know Ari. I think the same could be said of Dani. The loss of JP and the guilt Dani feels, coupled with the pain her parents feel, the alienation of her abuela have negatively impacted her relationships (or lack thereof). Seeing abuela happy now and trying to get to know JP when she hasn't spent the time on Dani has to be another blow in the face.

Carvivle, I think that Abuela has a little too much power in the family.

Carvivlie, I agree Dani craves love.

I said she doesn't crave attention because I don't think love and attention are necessarily the same thing.

Your "the loss of JP and the guilt Dani feels, coupled with the pain her parents feel, the alienation of her abuela have negatively impacted her relationships (or lack thereof)" was perfect.

Diana

Rgvchick, I remember that scene wihen Eugenio talked down to Blanca. It was not pretty.

It's interesting because Dani closes herself off to men it seems and Linda can't get enough male attention.

Carvivlie, "Seeing abuela happy now and trying to get to know JP when she hasn't spent the time on Dani has to be another blow in the face." That makes so much sense, I just couldn't quite put my finger on it, but you nailed it!! Thanks.

Jarifa, agree, that scene was not pretty at all...Eugenio sounded more like a father than her husband.

I'm late to the party in the patio, but am finally caught up watching the episodes. My thank you's to our recappers (Rgv Chick. Jarifa, and I think there is someone else?). 💕💜💕 I've had to read them and all the comments quickly, and probably missed some important info here and there. I'm not using CCs (closed captions) because most of the time these actors speak clearly enough, unlike many other telenovelas (looking at you, Telemundo)

I'm surprised that Robert and his family are reunited so early in this telenovela. ITA that all those scenes were so beautifully portrayed.

I'm even more surprised the DNA test was not stolen nor falsified! Is this a first in Telenovelaland?

I agree with the observations of the characters. Mostly, I am curious about what Julian has on Ana that he can blackmail her. Maybe I missed that?

I have always thought Dani's tough exterior is a result of her birth/JP going missing. Maybe this news will help. I'm not sensing any real chemistry between the actors of Dani and Gabriel. Don't know if it's me or the casting. Nonetheless, I like him. 😎

Doris, welcome to the patio!

In regards to your question on Julian, anything that he has on Ana is a result of his hunches and Ana's silence when he mentions those hunches. So far he has guessed that Ana has a secret that has to do with Juan Pablo's disappearance. He also guessed that she knew where he is. Her silence and her nervousness when he mentioned those two things to her confirmed his suspicions.

Mi marido tiene familia #17 Wednesday 9/1317 Part 1

Julieta at first thinks it must be a joke. Robert does not know how it all turned out this way either but there was a DNA test and there is no doubt. They are his parents. Julieta remains speechless.

Linda is still at bar flirting with Bruno. He has come back to talk to her. He couldn't give her the necklace because he thought she was vain and superficial, someone out of his league. Oh, no! She says isn't into expensive things as he looks at her handbag. She borrowed it from a friend. He asks if she is spiritual or what? Yes, she recycles the garbage and things like that. She asks his name. He is Bruno. He decides she isn't like all of the others and puts the necklace on around her neck. He adds that it looks very good on her which makes her smile. He ends up getting her in a taxi. The spiritual girl is leaving early. No, he cannot come with her. He has another set. She wants to know when they will see each other again. She adds she is doesn't chase guys. He tells her that she can write him if she wants, if not nothing is happening. She gets in the taxi. He smiles as the taxi pulls away.

All of the Córsegas are having supper which was prepared by Marisol because Ignacio has come to eat with them. Marisol starts listing the things Ignacio is going to miss like his house and his car. He almost chokes on his food. Eugenio wants to know where he is going to work. Ignacio is going to China. Blanca thinks he is such a good son-in-law. In the meantime, Polita is packing up food at the table to take home. It is soooo good. As long as the family is all together, Ignacio wants to ask them for a favor. Would they please take care of his family for him? And if it wouldn't be too much of a bother, he would like Frida and Marisol to move in with them. That is clearly something that was not on Marisol's radar. She grabs Ignacio's wrist and squeezes it hard. Marisol says they already talked about this . . . Ignacio insists because he doesn't want anyone to hurt them if they are left alone. Before you know it Imelda is agreeing with Ignacio as well as Eugenio and Blanca. Marisol can only bite her tongue and smile. After dinner, Marisol physically throws Ignacio into one of the bedrooms to find out what is going on. Begoña has insisted that the apartment be sold. If Marisol does not want her parents to know the truth, she is going to have to agree to certain conditions. He is going to leave her the car and pay her alimony. She hates him and starts beating him with a pillow when there is a knock on the door. It is Blanca. Suddenly they are all lovey dovey in each other's arms. Blanca asks if they are sure that everything is okay between them. Of course! Blanca does not look like she is buying it as she smiles and nods.

Julieta and Robert are walking down the street in silence. She needs to assimilate the news before they talk. Robert understands. He assures her it will all be fine. Nothing is going to change. All Julieta can do is think of the run-ins she has had with Blanca and Robert's sisters.

Blanca is doing the dishes and chatting with Ana who has just dropped by. Of course, Ana wants to know about his past. Blanca explains he had adoptive parents who treated him very well. Ana asks if he remembers Blanca, Imelda or her. Blanca says they haven't spoken about that very much but it does seem that all of his memories from that time were erased. God willling he will start recalling them.

Julieta and Robert reurnnhime. Unbeknownst to them, Imelda has been watching out for their arrival. It so happens she and Blanca have tons of leftovers from supper to bring over to Robert's.

Wednesday Part 2

In the meantime, Julieta is lying on the bed trying to adjust to everything and relax. Robert offers to help with a massage and some kisses. That does not last long because the doorbell rings. Julieta is not up to seeing s family yet. She will wait for him. Well, Robert cannot turn Blanca and Imelda away with all of their food and takes them up on their offer to join him as he eats. He wants their company. Blanca would love to cook him three meals a day. He will have to go to church with them. What kind of a doctor is he? They hang on every word he says and Imelda feeds him as if he were an infant. Robert is enjoying it all. Julieta hears what going on and is getting antsy. Ana calls and they agree to meet for coffee to talk about everything. Julieta tries to sneak out past Robert, Blanca and Imelda but is caught. Julieta is polite and says she needs to get some air because she has a headache. Blanca offers to get her a home remedy. No, Julieta will stop by the drugstore while she is out.

Marisol, Linda and Daniela are talking in the girls' room all about the reunion with their brother. Soon the topic changes to his withchy girlfriend as Daniela puts it. Daniela at first thinks they have to be nicer to her but after Linda rags on and she remembers what looked like a romantic rendezvous between Gabriel and Julieta, she joins Linda's way of thinking. Their brother deserves a good and faithful girl. Marisol warns it is one thing not to like Julieta and something totally different to try to break up,a couple. That falls on deaf ears.

Ana and Julieta are chatting over their coffee. Ana agrees that her sister-in-law and her mother-in-law can be intense and invasive. She adds that Julieta better get used to it because once they are in nothing will get them out. Julieta is feeling fenced in. Why did Robert's famlly have to end up being them of all people. Ana chalks it up to the ironies of life. She cannot live Ike them. They are so conservative and odd. She hopes that they do not come between her and Robert. Ana tells hermthat she has the answer: her move to New York. She can move away from the family before the family moves Robert away from her. Ana can identify with Julieta but she never had the chance to live out her dreams. She has always had to follow her husband's and his family's orders. Ana suggests that this trip can also be a way for Julieta to distance herself from her own family.

Blanca and Imelda are still talking. Imelda does not want him moving to New York. They just found him Her heart cannot take another separation. She does not want to die with Robert so far away. Robert is sorry but that is not possible. He promised Julieta. Imelda won't give it up. What does Julieta think ? Blanca says their plans were made before they found him. Robert cannot back out on Julieta who supported him all these years. Now it is his turn to support her. This is a big opportunity for her. All of their plans are made. Blanca and Imelda are finally resigned to whatever time they have with him. They love him.

Wednesday Part 3

Diana has taken Julieta's advice and is running the household (or at least Hugo ) at Catalina's. Diana comes in and turns off the tv as mother and son are watching and laughing arm in arm on the couch. She ends up telling Hugo to brush his teeth and to remove the trash from the living room before going to bed. He tells a complaining Catalina that Diana is probably right and then does as he was told, Catalina goes off. She gets into Diana's face thinking that she can intimidate her. She tells Diana she should be grateful for the roof covering her head and Diana says that that roof is really costing her. Diana tells her to get off her sopa box. She doesn't want a failed marriage like Catalina's. Diana picks up a rolling pin to help stress her points. She knows her husband can change and she is going to push him. She has invested almost her whole salary in this house and her son spent almost all of her savings. (All Catalina can do is watch the rolling pin) It is the same thing he did to Julieta and they will not let it happen again. She hands the rolling pin to Catalina and says good night.

Julieta comes back to the apartment. Shei is feeling better and just wanted to get out to clear her head. Robert knows things haven't gone very well between his mother and her but she and his grandma want to get to know Julieta better. She agrees that she and his mother will get to know each other better but now is not the time. Right now they just want to be with him. She feels like the odd man out. Robert assure her that eventhough they live close, it won't change their life as a couple. Anyway, Julieta says they won't be living there much longer anyway. Robert tells her how his grandma doesn't want them to go but that he told her and his mother that he was supporting Julieta.Furthermore, tomorrow he is going to go to the hospital and tie up all of his loose ends. Julieta smiles.

As they are getting ready to go to bed, Eugenio tells Blanca that they even have to get up earlier because he is going to plan a party to celebrate the return of their son. They are going to share their special "bean bread" with all of their customers so everyone knows who Juan Pablo Córcega is. Blanca is not as happy as she should be. She is afraid that this is all just a dream. Eugenio reminds her this is a time to celebrate. This is the time to live in the present. He kisses her on the cheek.

The next morning, Julieta is awakened by a parade through the steeet complete with a mariachi band, fireworks and the statue of a saint. She wakes Robert up who is absolutely enthralled by it all. She goes back to bed and covers her head. Belén and Amalia are at the shore and Amalia shows her sister a live transmission of the parade and says it is all part of the "welcome home" party for Juan Pablo. Robert convinces Julieta to get up so she can go down with him. He asks her to promise she will always be by his side. She promises. He starts to drag her to the shower.

In Polita's apartment, she is having a conversation with Aristóteles. It seems that he is is having problems in school and Polita is keeepimg it a secret from Audifaz. Aristóteles is worried about being compared to Juan Pablo. Later, Polita goes to school to meet with Aristóteles' teacher who seems to think that he has attention deficit disorder but she needs BOTH parents present to get Aristóteles the help he needs.

Wednesday Part 4

The party is underway at a banquet hall. Eugenio announces their is free Córsega "bean bread" for everyone! Julieta and Robert arrive and are instantly they are the guests of honor. There are applause and cheers. Linda is taking videos with her phone of the events. Eugenio hugs Robert. When he sees the phone he tells Linda to put it away already. Eugenio grabs a microphone and talks about his son and the joy and happiness he has brought into their lives and how he never wants the party to end. Blanca is next saying how they waited for Juan Pablo (Robert) and prayed so much for his return. God then granted their wish. So, whatever happens, they will always be thankful Blanca and Robert hug. Next, Bkanca wants to talk to Julieta as a mother. She offers her a heartfelt thanks for making her son happy, loving him and never leaving him alone. A very happy Julieta says she did it with great pleasure and adds a "ma'm" at the end. That title does not quite do it for Blanca who wants Julieta to call her "mamá suegra" (mother-in-law). So Julieta is on the not seat as the whole group of party goers led by Amalia chant "mamá suegra" at her until she finally says it. Blanca jumps for joy and applauds and the mariachi band plays. Blanca gives her a big hug. They all end up dancing and hugging each other. Julieta is left standing on the side all by herself breathing a sigh of relief. Linda asks Robert ot say a few words. He thanks everyone for the festivities. Everyone is smiling and they notice. Daniela says he came back to give them peace again. Then Daniela gives Julieta a dirty look. Julieta notices. Suddenly Julieta's and Robert's eyes lock and Juliets is all smiles. Polita announces that it is time to eat!!! Ana arrives. "Cielito lindo" plays and they all get their food buffet style. Ana addresses Robert at the table mentioning what a great family he has now. Robert says he grew up thinking he was abandoned and it turns out that they were always waiting for him and looking for him. Marisol asks what he remembers. When he moved to the apartment, he started remembering bits and pieces. Besides the orphanage, he remembers that a woman left him there. Ana almost chokes on her beverage. Blanca asks "What woman?

El fin

They need to fix those subtitles which were woefully incomplete, annoyingly slow or just pure wrong.

For me, the "mamá suegra" scene said it all: Blanca and Julieta are just two very different people.

More later.

Thank you, Jarifa, for that detailed recap.

bean bread..is that really a thing?

Well, it !ooks though Julieta has had enough with her family, and now Robert's large family is descending on them. There are so many people to deal with, and she wants Robert to herself. Yikes She looks ready to run.

Doris..hi there. We have not watched a telenovela together in a long time.

Jarifa, one of the many reasons I so enjoy your recaps is that is readily apparent when you are enjoying the show. Your words are always the ideal reflection of what transpired, carefully and brilliantly conveyed.

"Diana has taken Julieta's advice and is running the household (or at least Hugo ) at Catalina's" was my favorite line of many.

"Robert understands. He assures her it will all be fine. Nothing is going to change". Oh my. Change? Of course not! Oh Robert, you sweet, blissfully unaware man.

There is little not to like here. I didn't even cringe at the spoon feeding. Daniel Arenas is just so likeable, how could you not smile?

Julieta has handled things well so far. She has given Daniel his space while she sorts it all out. Still, I hope we missed a scene where she hugged him and told him how happy she was that he found his family (although she likely wishes it were another, almost any other family). Daniel is so hopeful and trusting, you can see he years for her approval. If she can't give that, I hope she fills him with love instead.

Misunderstanding Julieta and Gabe's relationship may be the primary cause of Dani's moodiness. I hope that misunderstanding gets cleared up quickly.

I like Diana, Julieta's SIL but the rest of her family (yes, Bruno included) seem to be peripheral characters whose stories just aren't that interesting (at least to me). The usually excellent Olivia has been reduced to playing a one dimensional, shrewish Catalina. She deserves better.

But oh, hasn't primal fear simply enveloped Ana?? But is she retreating? No, she continues to inject her venom into Julieta's Achilles heel with "She can move away from the family before the family moves Robert away from her". I was so happy Robert remembered he was left at the orphanage by someone. A woman. A she devil.

"At the foundation, Robert looks at David, the little boy who was burned and remembers himself banging on the door at the orphanage. While David sleeps, Robert says that if they can’t find his mother, they won’t be able to keep him there".

I hope they don't keep him there. I hope he finds a home. With Robert and Julieta. Who will give him the love and affection similar to what was given to him by his adoptive parents.

doris, so great to see your post again!

Dream show. Dream recap. Thank you Jarifa!

Diana

Hi, Jarifa. Great job, as always, especially your coverage of the goings on at Catalina's home, and at the neighborhood party.

Also, thanks for the comment on CC's. My hearing isn't very good, so I depend on them heavily, and they have been woefully lacking recently.

Well, I guess the battle lines are being drawn. I thought Julieta was making an effort to be congenial last night, but was always being shunted aside by Robert's family. She wore a brave smile, but it faltered from time to time.

What is with Polita? Are they living from hand to mouth or is something else going on? Everyone else shows up to family gatherings with plates and platters laden with food, and she shows up with empty tupperware containers.

So far Diana's project to whip her husband into shape seems to be gaining some traction. Can it last? Can it be successful? I think that after a certain amount of time without a job, it becomes very difficult to assume this vital, necessary function.

Diana, I hadn't thought about Robert and Julieta adopting David, but that would be a neat plot twist, and just might burst the dam of withheld approval for Julieta.

Hi, Susanlynn. If bean bread isn't real, it should be.

Welcome Doris. Nice to see you here!

Thanks again, Jarifa,

David

Jarifa, thank you for this excellent recap!!

I worried when Julieta slipped her hand from Robert, but she seems to be slowly coming around. Robert is just amazing and unbelievably supportive and patient. Although the spoon-feeding scene was sweet, I wondered how Robert could stand it...if it had been me, I think I would have felt very uncomfortable and politely taken the fork to feed myself.

Diana, "she continues to inject her venom into Julieta's Achilles heel with "She can move away from the family before the family moves Robert away from her". Wow, impressive description...this is why I always look forward to your comments!

Linda, I think, is going to be the one to be reckoned with if there is any hope of Julieta accepting the family, She was such a ditz at the beginning that I wouldn't have thought she would be the one to instigate a war against Julieta. Daniela will probably also try something, but once she finds out that she misinterpreted what she saw (which I hope is soon), I think she'll try to accept Julieta.

I do hope David finds his way into Julieta's heart because he is definitely already in Robert's loving radar.

David, "What is with Polita?" OMGoodness, every time I see that woman, I want to slap her hands. Surely, Audifaz makes some good money if has a rental business, but it seems they are both food hoarders. I balked att he scene where Polita holds up 1 egg and asks Aris how he wants it beacsue it is the only one they have...really??

Diana (Hugo's wife) is taking the bull by the horns, but I think she's going a little over the top with the "teacher" strategies, but then Hugo is like a child, so I suppose if it's working, go for it.

Susy, there really is bean bread..there are several recipes I found on the web when I googled "pan de frijol." I also googled "bean bread" and found a some other recipes here from the US, but they're different from what we see on the TN.

Rgv Chick, "I do hope David finds his way into Julieta's heart because he is definitely already in Robert's loving radar:. Tears. Gulp.

"She can move away from the family before the family moves Robert away from her" was Jarifa's. I simply added the very unkind sentiment about the venom :)

David, Polita is a bit different. I was really surprised at her stinginess but I've started to look past it as she seems like a very loving person.

Susanlynn, yes, Julieta does seem to be in flight mode. I think in the end though she will relent and stay. At least for a while. How could she uproot Robert after this? I know I couldn't.

Diana

OMG thanks Jarifa!! It was so hard to understand with the cc's being so slow.

Was it Diana that was Ari's teacher? I thought it was.

I'm starting to think that instead of it being Juli trying to get along with Rob's family that it will now be family v family. Bruno has it out for Linda, if Diana is Ari's teacher then Diana v Audi and Poli, and Juli v. all members of family.

I thought Juli did really well last night. She was visibly moved and happy when Rob hugged his father. She put her best face forward though it looked like she was chewing glass to say "mama suegra".

I liked that Blanca did back up Rob and Juli moving to NY and the kind words Blanca gave Juli. But it is Rob's job to backup and support Juli in regards to his family.

After last night, I will be surprised if Juli and Rob have one moment of time alone together. Abuela will be a handful.

Carvivlie, I am glad the recap could help with the "subtitles" or whatever they were supposed to be. Yes, Diana is Ari's teacher. Another entanglement . . . I, too, thought Julieta really did well. It was to be expected that Robert was going to be the center of attention after his 42 year absence.

Rgvchick, you know there is always something to learn from these novelas. Thanks for doing that "pan de frijol" reasearch. I will have to check out those "pan de frijol" recipes. I'm remember Blanca filling them in the bakery when Eugenio was telling not to talk so her spit wouldn't get on them. Seems like it is their specialty. Seeing all of that food just made me hungry.

David, thanks! Polita is something else. Looks like she is always prepared to whisk that food away.

Diana, thanks! I agree with your idea about Ana being "enveloped by primal fear." She is on the edge. I wonder if she'll slip up in her lies or if Robert will remember her.

Susanlynn, you're welcome. I can only imagine how Julieta feels with all of the inquiring new faces of The new family and dealing with the tedious old faces of her own family. I hope she doesn't run.

I guess that it is true that a person actually marries the family not just the loved one. All families are different, and when you marry, you have to adjust to and accept new family Dynamics. Hubba and I were around each other's families since we were teens, but they were very different. His parents had a very close marriage, but his parents were not very close to the rest of their relatives. MY parents were not very close, but my mother had a huge, close family. Hubba had to get used to all aunts hugging and kissing him at every family occasion.

So..CHickie, are you going to try making some bean bread? We have a huge BImbo factory near us, but I don't think that they make bean bread there.

Susy, the only "bean bread" I will make is a tortilla filled with beans LOL If anyone has eaten empanadas, I would think that "pan de frijol" is similar??

Thank you Jarifa, for covering this episode so well. I truly appreciate your efforts!

Julieta is fast realizing that being with Robert/Juan P is like going into a "My big fat Greek Wedding" situation.

I have never heard of stuffed bean bread. I do know the Salvadorian pupusas are stuffed gordita fried totilla with beans and or meat inside. They are delicious. But I've never seen bread rolls stuffed with beans. I even tried to look up recipes, but there are none like this. There is bean bread, where the beans are part of the dough mixture, but not wrapped inside the dough. This is interesting. I am going to have to try this and see how it comes out. I love experimenting with different foods.

The Spanish closed captioning was horrible last night. It was so out of sync and did not keep up with the conversation. Sometimes I don't understand the words they say very clearly so reading the closed captions helps a lot.

I've never had anyone be so bold as to bring their own plastic containers to take home food from my house. Does Polita not cook or what? It appears they don't keep much food in the house either, as when there was only one egg left the other day. So they pilfer from their relatives. I find it very strange that anyone would be that bold that they felt they could just help themselves. I would never, ever, do that to my family without asking. I have many times, sent food home with my guests. But my guests never request to take home food, I ask them first if they would like to take some home.

Cynthia, you're welcome. I liked your "Fat Greek Wedding" comparison.

I must admit I have run into a "Polita" in real life. : 0

Yes, there are Politas in the real world. I have a not-so-close relative who once came to a family potluck with some store-bought potato salad in what looked like a milk carton. That wasn't the bad part. What she said as she set it on the table (still in the carton, unopened and without a serving spoon) was, "Try not to eat too much of it, because I want to take some back home with me!" Whereupon my aunt, who was the hostess, picked it up, handed it back to her and said, "Here you go, Honey, put it in your car right now so you won't forget it!" Then she immediately put some potatoes to boil and we had the most delicious, homemade potato salad to go with our meal. One of my brothers, who is a troublemaker, said to the "Lolita" relative, "Aunt B, do you want me to open up that carton fir you so you, too, can have some potato salad?"

Polita, not Lolita!

It doesn't look like Polita works outside the home and I guess Audi's real estate business doesn't do too well. They must supplement their income with free food from the relatives. Since they do it with no sense of ill ease I suspect Blanca and Eugenio have been letting them do it for years. The worse part is they do it when the family hasn't stopped eating or left the table.
