Mi marido tiene familia Friday 10/27/17 Capítulo 48: Mourning What Might Have Been

Evening at the hospital is where the story picks up. Robert reminds the doctor he will tell Julieta about her condition when he thinks the time is right. Robert tells Luz that Julieta is in recovery and Luz tells him that Catalina is in the waiting room.

Linda meets with Bruno just like in her daydream. He is seated on a park bench with five red shopping bags. He confronts her by saying that she really knows how to take advantage of gifts as he looks at her shoes. She goes to take them off but he doesn't want them. He also doesn't need all of the clothing she gave him so he is returning it. He places the shopping bags in front of her. If she doesn't take them, somebody else will. Linda asks if he does not know that he is hurting her feelings. He says he is not thinking of her feelings. Bruno then asks if she ever thought of the feelings of all the guys that she deceived and left behind. From the very beginning, he knew she was a hypocrite and a user. That was why he went out with her. Does she remember Cornelio? He was the guy who bought her a very expensive handbag. Well, he is his best friend and that is why he decided to take revenge on her and gave her a lesson. She didn't care how all of those guys felt. For her information, Cornelio cried every night about her while she was out with that handbag laughing at him. Cornelio is still paying for that handbag for a total of 48 months with interest on top of it. Linda wants to know who he thinks he is to give her "life lessons". He answers that now she is feeling just what all of those guys were feeling because of her. He is just showing her that she does not have the right to make fun out of anybody. Linda slaps him. Bruno suggests that rather than slapping him, she should think about what she did. He gets up and leaves. Linda is left crying with the five red shopping bags.

Xavi is moaning to Marisol that he has been given a gig at a restaurant but he won't be making anything even though he knows he is performing there to promote himself. Nobody said how much he would be paid. Marisol sees him having the same problem as she has: being afraid to ask for things and in this case asking what the conditions of the job are. She adds that he is a great artist but if he does not believe in himself, nobody else will. He doesn't feel like he is in any kind of position to set the conditions. Marisol adds that nobody works for nothing. She tells him to get rid of his fear because his fear will do nothing for him. She tells him to smile and he does.

Daniela is designing furniture and her phone rings. She thinks it is Gabriel and answers in exasperation. No, it is Benjamín who has called to tell her that he needs her. América and Benjamín have decided to postpone their wedding. She tells him not to come looking for her.

In the kitchen, Blanca is all over Marisol for being friendly with that man from the roof apartment. She has no business associating with him. She hardly knows him. Marisol tells her she is wrong. She has known him almost her whole life. Frida tells Blanca that Xavi is her piano teacher. Blanca says that is nice. She sends Frida to do her homework. Blanca does not want Marisol to get into a mess because of the great responsibility she has with Frida. Marisol asks her not to be so hard.

Catalina appears at the hospital and insists on seeing Julieta. Robert would rather that Catalina go home and come back to see her tomorrow. No, she is staying. She wants to know how the miscarriage happened. Robert said it was due to an abnormality in Julieta's uterus. Catalina can't believe this happened just when Julieta had gotten used to the idea of being a mother. Catalina goes to call home but Robert stops her and asks that she let Julieta tell her brothers. Catalina agrees and also thanks him for not hounding Hugo about the money . He will pay Robert back someday. For Robert, that is the least important thing now. Catalina talks about her astrologer telling her that she would reflect on herself and look inward. Catalina does not like what she sees. She has caused a great deal of hurt to her daughter and thinks she is part of the stress that caused the miscarriage. Robert calms her down and reminds her that Julieta needs them to be strong.

Blanca of course has overheard Daniela's phone call and drags her into the kitchen, Daniela makes it clear she does not want to talk about boyfriends. Blanca only wants Daniela to find a good husband. Does her mother think that having a husband is happiness? She points out that Blanca hardly smiles and always seems upset trying to please everybody especially Eugenio. She has never seen him give her a kiss. Daniela is sure that her dad loves her mother but it is a strange sort of love. Blanca states that her children are her happiness. Daniela continues: take away being their mother, who is Blanca Gómez?

Linda comes home and tells her mother and sisters that Bruno humiliated her and lied to her. It is the worst thing that has happened to her. She really is stupid. Linda just doesn't know what is happening to her. She is fed up. She refuses to see the good in her life as Blanca suggests. She grabs her red shopping bags and storms off into her room. Blanca turns the focus to herself. She is a nothing, not even a good mother.

Daniela talks to Linda. No sermons from Daniela but she has always wanted Linda to pay attention to how she acts. Linda says that Bruno called her a bad person that just plays with other people's' feelings. Daniela asks if maybe he is right to a certain degree. Linda is a complicated person, the world does not deserve her, everybody has to play by her rules . . .Linda has to listen and learn. You get what you give. They warned her not to play those guys. She needs to take responsibility for what happens to her.

Blanca is looking out for Robert and Julieta through the peep hole in the door when Eugenio startles her. Blanca has had it with him saying that she is "sniffing out" the neighbors. What an ugly way to put it! She is looking for her son and daughter-in-law because she has not seen them. He suggest that they must be busy not like some people . . . Blanca tells him he is getting more white haired and hateful everyday. He tells her to not bother them. Well, if they don't say she is bothering them, who is he to say that she is? He is just a busy body or worse.

Blanca is having a bad feeling and wants to call Robert since she has heard nothing from him or Julieta for a while. Blanca goes asking Imelda for the computer to make a video call. Imelda has hidden it. She finally gives it to her.

The next thing we see is the whole family at a baptism ceremony where they are all arguing about a name for Julieta's new son. Julieta says Pablo. Robert and his family want Juan Pablo. Then it is Canuto and Ceferino. The priest is trying to combine them all. The arguing continues. Julieta tells them all to be quiet. He is her son. Robert reminds her that they are his family. Julieta goes off with the baby to raise him in peace and suddenly the scene turns into a surreal nightmare as all of the family pursues her looking like zombies. She cannot escape and then there is daylight and Julieta is standing all alone looking into the baptismal font. She wanders the church crying. Just at that moment, Julieta awakens from her nightmare to see Catalina crying at her bedside. Julieta tells her she feels bad. She never could have imagined feeling that empty. Catalina tells her she is the strongest of the family. Catalina realizes she was not the best mother but she admires Julieta so much. She really loves her. She is the best daughter of all. Catalina asks her to forgive her and to help her to change. Julieta needs her mother more than ever. Catalina also needs her daughter.

Robert is alone in his office crying with his little stuffed bunny. He answers his phone and it is Blanca nd Imelda ready for a video chat. Nlanca notices that he looks upset. Robert says it has been a hard day because a patient took a turn for the worse. Robert can barely finish the conversation without crying. Blanca suspects there is something going with Robert.

Robert stops by to see Julieta. Julieta asks Robert what the doctor said. Robert avoids the truth and says that everything is fine and that she needs to stay calm. Robert says he loves her more than yesterday. He loves her a lot.

The next morning, Julieta is upset thinking how she is going to tell Blanca and Eugenio they are not going to be grandparents. Robert says they will tell them when the time is right. She needn't worry about how they take the news. He has enough with it just being him and her. She is being discharged today.

As they are working in the bakery, Blanca tells Eugenio that Robert and Julieta never came home. How does she know? Well, she was watching for them. It is her right as a mother to worry about her son. Roberto looked sad last night. Eugenio reminds her that they are adults. He makes fun of the "sacred right" of mothers. She asks him how he can make "sweet bread" (pan dulce) when he is so sour. He reminds her that her spit is getting on the bread with her talking. She suggests that maybe that is why it is such a success. He suggests it might be why sales are down. Blanca asks him if he ever gets tired of blaming her for everything. She tells him it is one thing to be her husband and something totally different to be her father. Eugenio tells her she is going to make Robert and Julieta sick and tired of them and they will be moving just to get away and live in peace.

Imelda is on the case of her grandaughters and their love life one more time. Daniela tries to get her to change topics but it never does. Imelda was just giving them good, no excellent advice!

Tulio walks into his bedroom and wants to know why Ana is still in bed. Because she feels like it. Julián is texting her at the same time and she is not answering. Tulio wants to know why she is not answering her texts. Because she does not want to be bothered. They must be from beauty salon or something like that. He finally leaves. Ana is upset.

Marisol and Xavi see Frida off to the school bus. Xavi and Marisol thank each other for being each other's friend. Marisol has some ideas for Xavi's performance at the restaurant. He says she doesn't have to bother. Marisol asks if he has talked to his manager about getting paid for his performance. No he hasn't. She sees his avoiding things over and over again as being a little dishonest. If he asked for some money, at least he would know where he stands. Now, she wants him to focus on the show for the restaurant and practice with her. He just smiles.

Julieta and Robert are leaving the hospital and run into Daphne who expresses her sympathy to Julieta and offers her support as a psychologist if Julieta ever needs her. Julieta says "no, thank you" and moves on quickly. Julieta is clearly annoyed. Catalina looks Daphne up and down.

Belén is with Amalia when Belén thinks she sees her ex Aurelio. Amalia does all she can to keep Belén from going to see if it is him.

Ana is still at home but is now up and dressed and thinking about this "almost" kiss with Julián. She seems confused and upset.
At the same time, Julián is is outside of Ana's house talking to Ana's driver Lázaro. He is upset that Ana is not answering his texts. Later, Lázaro tells Ana that Julián was there and if she did not snswer his texts, she was going to have problems.

On their way home from the hospital, Robert and Julieta (with Catalina in tow) run into Blanca at the dumpster in front of the apartment building. Robert tries to make up a lie but Julieta insists on telling the truth to Blanca: she had a miscarriage. All Blanca does is ask: "You lost my grandchild?" Julieta just closes her eyes and holds her tongue. Catalina asks Blanca if she has any idea of what Julieta is going through. Of course Blanca does but she is hurting, too. Julieta says she does not have the energy to talk and goes inside with Catalina. Blanca says she is so sorry to Robert and tells him that he can count on her 24/7 as she hugs him. Robert does not look impressed. Catalina complains about Blanca being the worst mother-in-law ever. Julieta says now is not the time. Julieta starts to go into the baby's room and asks Catalina to leave her alone. She looks at everything and cries.

Robert chats with Blanca in the bakery. One more time, he is explaining how important Julieta is to him. He tells her he doesn't want the miscarriage to turn into a big family drama. He wants it kept quiet until Juliet decides to tell it. Blanca agrees. Blanca says the same thing happened to his aunt Ana and it ruined her life forever. They will make sure the same does not happen to Julieta.

Enzo calls Amalia. He wants to see her before class because he has some important things to discuss with her. Amalia is all excited thinking he is interested in dating her.

Benjamín has arrived outside the restaurant to tell Daniela that he is not going to marry América. Daniela does not care and insists it is all over between them. He tells her she is different because she is the only woman he knows who doesn't know how attractive she is. He agrees to not contact her but will leave it up to her. If he does not hear from her, he will know her answer. Gabriel has been watching and wants to know if she is having a problem when he sees Benjamín. "No" is he answer. Later, Daniela fills Gabriel in on what Benjamín said. She does not know what to do. She takes the wedding cancelation as maybe proof that she is important to Benjamín. Gabriel tries to talk her out of anything Benjamín is selling. Daniela tells Gabriel that Benjamín is the only guy she has ever felt something for. Gabriel asks "the only one?" Yes, but since Gabriel is strange and has never been in love, he has no right to judge her. For Daniela it is pure chaos. Gabriel is left wondering why he feels sad when Daniela talks about Benjamín being the only guy she has ever felt something for.

Catalina puts Julieta to bed. She insists on making Julieta soup (whether she wats it or not.) Catalina tells her how worried Robert is about her. Julieta tells Catalina how guilty she feels about the miscarriage. Guilt has always been present in her life. She remembers Catalina always saying that her father abandoned them because of her. Catalina quickly tells her not to remember those things from the past. Now the most important thing for Julieta is that Robert be happy. She does not want him suffering from all of this.

Robert thinks about what his mother said about Ana having had the same thing happen to her and how it ruined her life forever. When he throws out some garbage, he finds one of the stained wedding invitations. He opens it and looks worried.

Of course, Blanca cannot keep a secret and has to tell Imelda about Julieta. She makes Imelda swear she won't tell.

Blanca was at her absolute worst tonight. She never even asked Julieta how she was. It was all about her and her feelings.

More tomorrow.

Thank you for the recap, Jarifa! I look forward to watching this one later today.

I agree, Blanca hit a new low. "You lost my grandchild?" Ummm..... self-centered much? She really needs to get a life.

I don't trust CatDQ's concern for Julieta. The skeptic in me thinks Cat doesn't want to lose her cash cow. Cata needs to get a life. And a job. And I sound like a broken record. 😜

Linda could be president of Narcissists 'R' Us.

Right now Bruno is a better person than not-so-Linda.

Telegram, telephone, tell a Blanca. "Radio Bemba"!

Jarifa, thank you for such a wonderfully written recap. Your vivid details retold the drama perfectly.

"Blanca was at her absolute worst tonight. Yes, she was! I could not believe she basically ignored Julieta...no hug, no sympathy...only for Robert. I do hope Robert did realize how selfish she was and calls her on it. How he could trust her to keep a secret is beyond belief; did he not learn the first time? Crying while cooking was all about her and she had to spill the beans to her heartless, selfish shrew.

Doris, "I don't trust CatDQ's concern for Julieta." I don't either, but I do believe CatDQ was sincere; it may not last very long, but at least she is there trying to help and comfort Julieta when she needs her most.

I don't like Bruno, but last night he gained some points when he was completely honest with Linda, though I don't think it will phase her at all.

I feel for Daniela. She is struggling trying to be strong and the nags keep jabbing at her...why have these girls not found an apartment of their own and moved out. Gabi remains the sweetest...so concerned. I felt bad for him when Dani told him that Ben was the only man she had felt something for...which based on her previous discussions with Marisol and Linda is not true. She just doesn't want to accept her feelings for Gabi, nor does he want to accept what he truly feels for her.

Thanks Jarifa!!

Agree about Blanca's reaction to the loss. Juli shouldn't have to deal with that. Rob should let Blanca tell the whole family so that the two of them don't have to deal with their responses. I hope Imelda knowing gives her time to come up with a suitable response.

I'm glad Linda got her comeuppance and Bruno told her the truth. A bit rich of him to tell her to think of other people when he's been stealing his sister's money for school for how many semesters?

So Dani called out Ben for being a coward last time. Now it is time for Dani to not be a coward and call him. She has to finally open herself up to her feelings and take a chance.

Poor Gabi. But he can't force it with Dani. She isn't ready to handle her emotions and will only push him away, like she is still doing to Ben. Step up girl!

The way Amalia was keeping Belen from following that man makes me wonder if she knows it was her husband, and has known where he has been, and has been keeping it a secret.

I wonder what Enzo is going to tell Amalia. Ban her from class?

Great recap, Jarifa! I figured that's what would happen with Bruno and Linda. I agree with Carvivlie that he's as bad in his own way. People in glass houses and pots and kettles come to mind.

I know this is too modern for a TN but Julis eggs are good she just can't carry. They could use a surrogate.

What a touchingly beautiful title Jarifa. I loved your recap.

I don't know if the pain Julieta feels will ever go away. I would imagine time might dull the pain somewhat eventually, but our memories sometimes keep the deepest hurts nearby, ready to be all too rapidly and vividly recalled. Robert is there to comfort her, but this ache is beyond his practitioner healing skills.

The nursery. I expected it would be a magnetic force and sure enough, Julieta was drawn it as soon as she returned home. The sweet mobile must have crushed her heart.

In the midst of agony, there was a tiny ray of hope. "Catalina does not like what she sees. She has caused a great deal of hurt to her daughter and thinks she is part of the stress that caused the miscarriage". I believe in redemption and I fervently hope this is true in Cat's case.

"Catalina looks Daphne up and down" made me smile when I saw it and seeing it here.

Carvivlie, thank you for your surrogate idea! That never crossed my mind. I do see children in their future. I still think the doctor's words conveyed pregnancy was totally impossible. And I'm with doris in still hopeful David will be part of the family.

I have a question for the patio. I thought Robert should have quietly spoken to his family, Eugenio and Blanca, and told them what happened. Had he done so, they might have been able to process the situation and (hopefully) handle the situation with the sensitivity it deserved. Perhaps Blanca's honest but incredibly selfish reaction would have been different. And of course your "Crying while cooking was all about her and she had to spill the beans to her heartless, selfish shrew" said it all RgvChick! Blanca isn't "good" when she's had time to assimilate, she is horrid when surprised.

I think he should tell the rest of the family, quickly. People don't handle bad news well, especially when they aren't expecting it. God knows what Linda will say and I don't want to know. I know there might not have been time for Robert to do so before but there is now. Am I wrong???

Gabi and Dani were circling each other, trying to decide (and accept) if they have something romantic. Ben has disturbed the dance. I hope Dani decides to figure out once and for all if there is anything to be had with Ben. If not, she will always wonder. Gabi needs to step back and let that happen. I think she will miss him once he's not hiding behind a potted plant or dancing around the restaurant.

I don't know what Enzo is going to tell Amalia either. Call me skeptical but I don't think it will be "I love you". She has been so obnoxious, I doubt it will be a dinner invitation.

I guess Bruno thought Linda crying and pouring her heart out wasn't enough punishment. Pure and utter annihilation - mission accomplished. I don't like Linda but now detest Bruno.

Sounds like Julian won't take no for an answer. I can only hope these two despicable individuals would just go away before they do more harm.

Xavi and Mari are adorable.

Jarifa, you presented us with a silver lined summary. Thank you!

Diana

I still think the doctor's words conveyed pregnancy was NOT totally impossible

Diana

Diana: I'm almost certain the doctor said Julieta PROBABLY couldn't get pregnant again--which leaves the writers with an out in case they decided that she would. I suppose a surrogate would be a possibility too--but would the Catholicism of the characters interfere with that? Given that adoption has already been an important theme and Robert is very bonded with David, I strongly suspect that that is the direction the plot will go.

Diana, "I thought Robert should have quietly spoken to his family, Eugenio and Blanca..." ITA, he should have at least told Eugenio and Blanca together. THe rests of the family can wait until Julieta ispresetn to tell them, but EUgenio coudl have made sure Blanca would keep her mouth closed...and she would have had someone to share her sorrow with...not Imelda.

Diana and SpanProf, you are correct, the doctor's exact words were "altamente probable" which means it is "highly probable" that Julieta will not be able to get pregnant again...so, there is hope.

Wow,so many typos...that's what I get for being rushed, but I'm sure you all get what I meant to say.

Diana -- ". I hope Dani decides to figure out once and for all if there is anything to be had with Ben. If not, she will always wonder. Gabi needs to step back and let that happen."
I agree! Your comment reminds me of a poster that was popular, many decades ago, STTE of ' If you love someone, let them go. If they are yours, they will come back to you. If they don't they were never yours.'

I agree, it would have been best if Roberto had quietly told Eugenio and Blanca first. He, himself, is probably still in shock and on that theory, I can forgive him because E and B have not been major figures in his life for 30+ years. I think he did call and tell his adoptive parents, those to whom he is emotionally connected and feels closest.

Thank you SpanProf and RgvChick!

I have known of instances where women have been told they wouldn't have children and lo and behold...

I agree that David's adoption is likely and for that, I am very happy. If that occurs and if Julieta does get pregnant, that would be wonderful too.

doris, thank you for reminding us that Robert called his adoptive parents "those to whom he is emotionally connected and feels closest". From their attitude, it is obvious they are secure in the love they share with Robert something that of course Blanca is desperate to achieve.

And Robert is still pretty much perfect in my book. The man does not have a mean bone or unkind thought.

Diana

Thanks, all, for stopping on by the patio, your kind comments and commentary.

doris, RgvChick, I don't trust Catalina yet either. It would be wonderful is she has changed completely but I will have to see her over a good number of episodes in this new repentant state to actually believe it.

Diana, you do have a way with words! I loved your description of "Dani and Gabi circling each other. . . . Ben has disturbed the dance". To me, Gabriel not knowing why he felt sad when he finds out that Benjamín is the only man Daniela has ever felt anything for, just means that they both have a long way to go in realizing their feelings for each other. It should be an interesting trip with these two. : )

SpanProf, yes, I think we will be going down that adoption plot road but do not rule out a surprise pregnancy for Julieta either.

Robert and Julieta needed to have a talk before they told Blanca on how to handle news of the miscarriage, but like in real life sometimes people don't think that far ahead. Now, it looks like it could get out of control which is just going to alienate Julieta more from the Córcega clan.

I can't wait for the next episode.

Also, did I say how much I disike Amalia and want to ff through any scene she is in, how I was very happy Linda got her long overdue comeuppance, how Bruno needs a comeuppance of equal intensity? Well, I am saying so,now. Ha! Ha! : )

Thanks Jarifa! I missed the beginning but it looks like it was just Linda stuff.

I agree with everyones comments on here! Looks like you are all thinking some interesting stuff!

Question: Did anyone catch what Marisol said to Dani when Blanca sits here down in the kitchen but Dani refuses to talk about boyfriends. Did she call Dani the older sister? Woah. I thought Marisol was the oldest. She kind of looks older.

-Jackie

Thanks, Jarifa. Great job.

Blanca turns the focus to herself. She is a nothing, not even a good mother.

Blanca keeps moaning about this, but every chance she gets to do better she blows it. ITA Robert should tell all the family, otherwise they'll keep asking Julieta about the baby and worsening her pain. Let's see who among this crew will rise to the occasion and be a comfort to her. So far, I think Cat is doing well.

I love Bruno socking it to Linda with the truth. She's wah-wah! about herself but not remorseful for what she did to those guys. Thanks to her, they all now have trust issues and dumb Cornelio is in debt and she could care less.

Jackie - Marisol is most def the oldest kid of the bunch. Here's the order: Marisol, Robert, Dani, Linda. Maybe Marisol was teasing Dani about "acting" like the oldest?

Jackie, when Dani asked Marisol to help her out, Marisol got up and told her this was a discussion between mother and daughter. Then she said something like, "The older one, no" then she pointed to Dani and said, "the younger one."

Niecie, "dumb Cornelio is in debt " thanks for bringing that up. I wonder how much that purse was worth for him to still be paying for it...wow!

Jarifa: I watched a Father Brown rerun Saturday night that had a similar plotline (a woman lost a baby at birth, was told she couldn't have more children but the last scene was her telling her husband the duke that her doctor had told her she was 4 months pregnant--of course in the meantime her husband had kidnapped a supposed foundling at the maternity hospital and tried to pass it off as theirs--but it all worked out thanks to Father Brown).

Niecie, thanks! I wonder how long it will take, if ever, for Linda will "get it" and turn into a nicer person.

SpanProf, I have never seen "Father Brown" (thanks for mentioning it so I could research it--I love finding out about any shows or movies out there) but that plot sure seems to be where this one could be headed.
