Caer En Tentacion #47, 12/26/17: And The Winner Is.....

The happy family, the worrisome threesome, makes a great Kodak moment in Telenovelaland.   Again, Damian insists that this child is his against Carolina's slight protests. He asks her to promise she'll let the child remain close by and let him be a part of the boy's life somehow and he'd like her to name the boy Benjamin.  They kiss and coo till Raquel's call crashes the family party.  Raq (late to this party) is excited that Santiago has told her that Caro's baby is near to dropping and can they please reconsider hanging with the Alvarado's.   Dam plays dumb ("--Ya don't say!!")  and then lies that he's in a bidnes meeting and cannot talk.  "--Later, Love."  There's more cooing and then Nico calls and Caro explains she's at a different  hospital since things happened so fast she didn't have time to get to her own.  Santi (sadly, even later to this party) heads for the other hospital.   Dam takes his tearful leave of his new loved ones and hides behind a pillar as the supplanted Santi and Nico head for the front entrance and to the maternity ward.

At the hospital, as Miriam watches, Mia The Moody sits down next to Dam's bed and tells him that Mom and Santi are a definite duo now and if he doesn't wake up ASAP, he will lose her forever.  (What doesn't Mia get about that train has left the station?)  Andres walks up to join Tia Mimi and says he's heard they are about to let the son of Ignacio go, since it was Raq's sister who tried heisting some of Dam's jewelry.  Mimi is very upset that the situation is leaning that way. She insists she wants Raq's lover to be implicated.

Alina and Nico are at the jail to see about Bebo.  She tells Bebo he's being released because Raq's not pressing charges, but if he ever gets involved in a mess/jam like this again, she won't be there to defend him.  Bebo has remembered something about the night Caro was killed that should work for his and his dad's alibi.  They went out to eat together.  Outside in the hallways, Alina explains perhaps somebody saw the two of them at the restaurant.  Nico's attitude is more like, ok, but NOW can we go to your house and do the naughty?   She reminds him she's there to do a job (and to stop thinking about SEX, SEX, SEX all the time).  He's jealous of her time and she refuses to give him an explanation for every time she leaves the fricking room!

At the police station, Godoy give Antonio the official results of the DNA test.  Tonio wants to delivery them himself.

When Santi and Raq arrive at her house, Jovita is all upset due to Mia's moving out.  Mia tells her that she's going to live with Gramma as she's too stuck on Santiago to pay attention to the wishes of her children.   Mia is stopped by Santi on the way out.  He tries to make her see reason.  He tells her they've all been victimized by Caro and Dam's relationship.  She replies that despite that, neither his kids nor she and her brother will ever accept this relationship between Santi and her Mom.  Period.

Laura comes to plague her husband at the station.  She jealously accuses him of being soft on damsels in distress, and showing off for Cinthia instead of sticking to the job at hand of finding Carolina Alvarado's murderer. It's just a part of the job, but she refuses his tempered explanations.  Godoy says he simply is fed up over the fact Laura can't let sleeping dogs lie when it comes to their relationship.  She says, well, what happened between us will follow him the rest of his life, even if he shares his life with somebody else.  He insists she's not his lover and he isn't sleeping with SinCin.

Raq whimpers that she's going to lose Mia once and for all.  Santi takes the long view and says give her daughter time and eventually she'll come around.   We all need a second chance at life.  "--Well, how do I explain not giving her father, my husband, that second chance." (Easy, you gave him that after he moved back in, duh!)

Nico arrives home and is selfishly stuck in his own world.  Lola just wants a bit of information on Bebo.  He gets snitty.  Lola reacts.  Nix the maditude, buster.   "--I'm stuck at home taking care of the house and their kid brother.  I'm not your servant!"  (10 bonus points for her!)  So don't treat her like one.  Just then Antonio arrives with the DNA test results.  Santi is on the way home.  He'll wait to speak to him personally.

Mia arrives at Mimi's and moves in.  Aha!  Viewerville notes that she's brought her trusty rusty razor along as well.

Back at los Alvarado, Santi arrives home and reads the test results:  Benjamin is NOT his son!  (Duh-duh-duh-duhhhhhhhn!!)

SinCin and Raq discuss Mia's leaving.  Fede arrives home and is brought into the know.  She's so afraid that Mimi will say all sorts of trash about her (as if she hasn't all these years up to now???  Give it a rest, Raq, baby.  You've lost this battle.)   He calls Mia and tries talking sense into her.   He hands the phone over to Raq who begs Mia to give her a chance to explain things.  Mia tells her to blow it out her ditty bag.  If Mama thinks they and Santi are going to live in the house like one big happy family she's got another think coming!  Raq made her choice and she's now made her own.  She's staying with Gramma.  Click!

Back at los Alvarado, Tonio explains that yes, the Beckers have more rights over the boy than he does.  (Psychological damage of the current family who'll be torn apart be damned!)   "-- Best get a lawyer."

Speaking of lawyers, Alina is on her way out when there's a knock at the door.  Why it's simpering Sammi, The Spurned.  He refuses to take NO for an answer and pulls a gun.  Sammi The Spurned Spoil Sport then shoots said pistol at point blank range......

Godoy gets the report on Bebo's beat down in the joint.  He tells the other detective to get word to Rafael that he's not to lay a hand on Bebo again or there'll be hell to pay.  (He suspects it was Rafe who sent out the word for this.  I think.)   Later, Godoy calls SinCin.  I think the conversation deals with her needing to move back in now with her sister so Godoy can live in his own bachelor pad without improprieties.) Now that Rafe is in jail she can breathe easier and no problems going back home, right?

Raq and Fede have word now that Caro's baby was born.  Raq calls Dam who again plays dumb.  He says he cannot get away but will send his regards later.  She promises to text him a picture of the baby.

Lola is on her school trip and Santi calls her.  She races over to Pati's to celebrate the news.   Caro  tells Santi to tell Raq she's too tired for visitors right now.  He calls Raq.

Dam then gets an unexpected return visit from Tio Vicente who is now upping the amount of money he wants monthly to keep his mouth shut.

Back in Caro's hospital room, the doctor arrives and asks about the father's sudden disappearance.  Santi looks at Caro in confusion.....

Comments:
Carolina will probably claim that Vicente was in the delivery room with her & since he actually is in town, she'll get away with it.

Mia is an adult now and free to make her own decisions & choices. If she chooses to live with Miriam because she can't manipulate Raquel into leaving Santiago, so be it.

It's good that Nico & Lola were there during the paternity reveal. They need to understand that it was Carolina who destroyed their family, not Santiago being with Raquel. CAROLINA is the one who deceived them for YEARS, passing another man's baby off as their father's. All the times Carolina was "gone to Lisa's" instead of being home with them. Even her last act, running away with Damian while leaving Lola in charge of taking care of Benjamin. Santiago renouncing Raquel forever will not change that.

Laura is upset because she knows Godoy has a bit of a savior complex and that's probably why he's still with her. But now he has a new puppy to save in Cinthia so there's no more need for Laura. Both of them need to get clear on what they want out of life. If Laura cannot find it in her heart to forgive Godoy & give him another chance, then she needs to leave. And its ok for her not to forgive Godoy because he's the one who betrayed her.

If Godoy is tired of being a punching bag for Laura he needs to do whatever it takes, including turning himself in for whatever it is he did, to be free of her.

Also, I don't think Sammy killed Alina, he probably just shot the wall. But if he did kill Alina, Nico will probably come in later, discover the body and get arrested for killing her.

That would be tragic, indeed. Sammy was a disaster waiting to become a catastrophe. However, I don't think that will be the case.

Vicente's blackmail shows exactly who he is and perhaps always was. He can't suffer enough when this is all over.

Thank you, Jardinera. Somehow I missed the last scene. I was wondering if something lihe that was going to happen. Too funny.

Mia like her auntie Cintia is a lost cause. Raquel needs to let her go and stew in her hatred with Miriam.

Gracias, Jardinera.

Andres can't stick it any more ways can he? To let Mia go because Cinthia stole Damian's watches? How much sense doesn't that make? Miahas no track record as a thief.

Most parents of children like Mia -- and while she is legally an adult emotionally she is a nasty, disturbed child -- almost never listen to advice that says to give up on them. They will always hope that their little misfit will turn around and be normal and thus the parents almost never do they get their wish. In Mia's case she has refused reasonable communication with both parents and she is now also alienating her brother.

Raquel and Cinthia have never spoken if their parents but un their own way they must have been as dysfunctional as Miriam.

Santiago told Raquel the kids will come around and Raquel replied "Do you KNOW my daughter?"

In other words, Mia will never come around and Raquel knows it.

So the decision for Raquel must be, should she center her life around Mia's likes and dislikes to the exclusion of her own, or does she set some boundaries and let the chips fall where they may.

What if Mia decides that no one should eat meat anymore? Or that women over 40 should cut their hair short and dress frumpy? Or that Raquel should never date anyone ever again? Will Raquel say, "to keep Mia happy and keep her from cutting herself I will do whatever she wants?"

What if Mia tells Raquel she is going to kill herself if she ever dates again (ANYONE)? Should Raquel stay a celibrate nun for the rest of her life to please Mia?

Raquel needs to set boundaries and let Mia know that Mia doesn't run her life. At the same time, Mia is a young adult now and Raquel doesn't run MIA's life. So although we all know Mia + Miriam = disaster, Raquel needs to let Mia go. She's done all she can do and she can't control things with Mia (just like she can't control things with Cinthia).

Both Mia & Cinthia need to deal with the consequences of their actions and neither one of them has ever been held accountable for their bad behavior, for fear of holding them accountable will lead to them cutting and drugging themselves.

Thanks Jardinera!

Tough blow for Santiago but we all knew it was coming. Although Damian was noticeably jealous that Carolina told him to leave before Santiago arrived at the hospital. In the time between Benjamin’s birth and the accident he was probably mad that Santiago got to play father to his child.

Mia was pretty rude to her mother and Santiago but Raquel had a point when she noted that Santiago doesn’t know what Mia is capable of.

I too don’t think Sammy kills Alina. He probably just wants to scare her.

Thanks, Jardinera. Sammi The Spurned Spoil Sport then shoots - betcha can't say that fast three times!

Raquel can't let Mia rule her life -- doing so wouldn't help Mia anyway -- but her daughter is sick and she needs to keep trying to get her to leave Miriam (and get into a good psychiatric clinic). Mia can't stand to be left alone and unattended. She wanted Miriam to stay and talk, but abuela's too busy plotting against Raquel to fathom how messed up her granddaughter is.

Poor Santi. Don't know how it works in Mexico, but in the USA any child born in a marriage is automatically legally the husband's (along with the wife). I remember a court case a while back where the cuckolded husband sued to not be responsible for still paying child support years after the divorce.

If Mia is a legal adult, there may not be anything Raquel can do to compel her to get help unless Raquel can prove she's a danger to herself or others. Raquel & Damian tried to compel Mia to get help when she was a minor and the girl refused, so there's not much Raquel can do now that Mia is an adult. Mia doesn't want to listen to Raquel unless she gets her own way and now with Miriam in the mix, Mia's REALLY not going to listen to Raquel. Unfortunately there's nothing at this point Raquel can do except protect herself & Fede.

Miriam will indulge Mia & Mia will likely get her way with Miriam, just to get back at Raquel. In the event Miriam notices Mia is one messed up person, she will blame Raquel and not hold Mia accountable for her actions.

Yes, here in the US if you're born in the marriage or listed on the birth certificate you have to pay until that kid finishes college (if they attend). Doesn't matter if DNA tests show some other guy is the father, US courts don't care and if your name is on the certificate you WILL pay.

Gracias, Jar--complete and un-adulterated. It's always a pleasure to read one of your recaps. I'm so glad you are covering this tn.

I thought it was pure arrogance for Dam to ask Caro minutes after this child is born to name him Benjamin. I'm sorry I didn't catch the reason he wanted that name, but it was something about being meaningful to both families. If someone else can clarify, I'd be grateful.

Niece--You said exactly what I thought when I heard Antonio says that the Beckers have more right to Benjamin than Santi. In the old days, before DNA, yes, the child would legally belong to the father that's named on the birth certificate, even if the postman had flaming red hair and sky blue eyes and so did the unexpected little tyke and the rest of the family were brunettes. I have no idea how DNA changes that. Suppose Miriam and Andres don't want him, will the law MAKE them take Benji? We know Raq would, in a heart beat, to keep him out of Miriam's hands and let Santi continue to be his rightful (though not legal) father.

So Mia thought Abuela was not only going to open her house and heart to her, but also devote 100% of her time to Mia, just Mia and only Mia. The look on her face as Mimi swept out of the house was complete confusion, with a dash of anger thrown in.

Alina just can't leave the scene that easily. I think ex-Sammie meant to shoot her dead. We'll see how that went tonight.

Thanks to Sandie and Urban for their holiday duty on Caer nights. I couldn't believe Uni broadcast them all. Unfortunately, I couldn't get Uni where I was staying--some hotels must not believe Spanish-speaking people also stay in hotels.

Jardinera thanks for this recap, you
Bring it in living color, well blue
Anyway.
Man that Damian is a piece of work. He
Made a mess of his life, and Raquel's,
Santiago's, and the kids. All cuz he's
A selfish jerk. And Mia is just like
Him. That man has single handedly with
The help of carosyrup, destroyed two
Family's. And the life of an innocent
Precious little boy at risk of being
Placed in The hands of snakes(Miriam & Mia). He should stay with the only man that He knows as daddy "SANTIAGO".

This whole situation is becoming so
Sad. I hope they don't take benji away
From santi.That wouldbe the laststraw.
And just down right wrong.

I don't give a flyin fig if Mia went to stay with the wicked witch of the
South. She can stay there. I hope raq
And santi live happily ever after and
The kids come around. And Nick need to
Get a clue and stay away from that succubus, or he'll turn out like that
Weird lookin guy that shot at or shot
The succubus. He probably missed.

They need some happiness.I would like
To see santi and Raquel together and
Little benji.I just hope he don't grow
Up to look like Damian. What a slap in
The face that would be. But y'all know
What?"Love covers a multitude of sin".
They could love that little boy and he would be theirs, not Damian's and caro.

Ok I'm into happiness these days no matter what. It could happen.

THANK you Jardinera.

They say the name "Benjamin" is often used for the youngest son or a son much younger than his siblings...and all of Benjamin's siblings are at least 15/16 years older than him.

Benjamin can also be a Hebrew name ...I wonder if the Beckers are of Jewish origin, especially since Raquel's last name is "Cohen".

Thank you Jardinera, great episode some things finally got clarified.

I do have one comment though. Bebo was on the phone with Nacho and Nacho was going to order food, so they discussed what Nacho wanted. Bebo was not in town otherwise Bebo would be the alibi right? The alibi will be the restaurant that Nacho ordered food from. At least that is how I understood Bebo's recollection.

Anon207, I've also been thinking that. Miriam is a more common name among Jews than among Christians. She mentioned her husband's name once and it was Elias, which makes me think that the Beckers and the Cohens both may have started out as Reform and are now secular.

Or is this series based on a story from another country? Mujeres de Negro was based on a Finnish novel.

Miriam has no clue what is eating Mia but she will get suspicious eventually. The big question is whether she will care.

Excellent Jardinera.

Nix the maditude, buster" and "simpering Sammi, The Spurned" were my hands down favorites.

"Psychological damage of the current family who'll be torn apart be damned" said it all,

Yes, we all (rightly) suspected what the test results would be but it was hard not to have your heart ache for Santiago. I have always considered him buttoned up and rather unemotional. Not last night. I also felt for the children particularly Lola who has been Benjamin's mother for all intents and purposes. She has now been nursemaid for her mother's child with another man. Too much for a young girl to process (along with the other heartaches/Juan in her life).

I don't think Alina is dead. Unfortunately :)

Without immediate and intense therapy, Mia will not be saved. It doesn't matter if Raq renounces Santi. Whatever she does, Mia will find something/anything to threaten with. Raquel cannot win.

I hope what happened between Godoy and Laura is revealed. Did she become so cold and controlled after or was she always that way?

Jardinera, thank you. This was great.

Diana

Urban--This story is based on an Argentinian tn titled Amar Despues de Amar. Their original names were Raq=Raquel Levin; Dam=Damián Kaplan; Caro=Carolina Fazzio; Santi=Santiago Alvarado and Miriam=Myriam Cohen de Kaplan.

So GG changed their last names, but not their first names. Argentina, especially around Buenos Aires (and also Montevideo, Uruguay) has a large Jewish population, well integrated into mainstream Latin American society, so it's not unusual for them to end up with what we would identify as Jewish names here in the States.

OT--I went to school in Montevideo with a girl named Pola Kaplan and didn't know until after I got to the States that it was more common to be Jewish with that name. Here I went to school with a girl named Mariana Weiss who was born in Argentina but whose family then came to the States. More OT, the U.S. blogger David Pakman was also born in Argentina and moved here as a child. He identifies his roots as Jewish. So, no big deal!

Sandie--I believe that is correct about Nacho telling Bebo what he wanted to eat. Apparently Bebo was talking to him still from jail, or at least not in Mexico City. But we also learned that Nacho was *supposed* to be out of town taking care of family business, but really he was back in D.F. and never got in touch with Santi. We still don't know why.
And we still don't have the connection of that thuggy looking guy getting paid off by Santi in epi. 1.

BTW--It's safe to check Wikipedia for Amar Despues de Amar. Take a look at the photo of the four leads. They certainly don't look anything like ours in CET. Maybe I'm used to ours, but I think they were very well cast.

Rambling on--ADdeA was only 70 sixty minute episodes long. GG had to have added a lot of filler. I wonder where. ADdeA has their own Vicente, Juan, Godoy, Antonio, Andres, Cynthia and Alina.

Now the Alvarado children probably don't want their dad with Raquel because That would remind them that their mom Was a cheat and a liar. Passing their Little brother off as their dad's child.
And now they really don't want them together, but papa's in love with a
Woman that's been hurt just like their
Dad,and by the same 2 people. They'll
Heal better together than apart. Yeah
Well ya might saythat little boy is a reminder, well they have each other as
Reminders too. And hurt don't last always. I'm just tryin to find a happy ending for this mess. And O boy what a mess. Santi was already hurt when he
Found out the woman cheated on him but
Then to find out the little boy his heart is in was from a cheap affair.
Yeah it was cheap. I don't care how much they were inLove there was way to much destruction for it to have been right. And she couldn't stick around to face the music, she got murdered and he Layin up in The bed in la la land. Not fair. Why'd the writers do it
Like that?
Santi you better not be the one that
Killed her. Who The hell was he payin off and why? Ok rant over. For now.

Considering Santiago's current financial situation he could have been paying off a loan shark.

Nina: Santiago is still a suspect & paying off the dude in the 1st episode is raising red flags.
