Caer en Tentación #36, 12/11/17 Lunes: The Waiting Game

Chapter 36: The Waiting Game

Just the facts tonight, dear readers. Almost the entire episode takes place in the present.

Raquel watched Santiago escort Alina inside his home. She did not see that he brought her there to allow her to meet with Bebo with the goal of helping him. She was outside in her car, thinking of how another rejection was a judgement on her value as a woman and a person.
Bebo wanted to find work and Santiago offered to hire him. They went to talk about it, bith Bebo telling Santiago this would be difficult because of differences between him and his father.
Lola looked at Alina, then at her brother. She suspected that something wasn't right.

Juan went to see Laura to confront her. She told him she didn't want any more photos from him. He was not pleased that she had been investigating him by asking questions about him in his neighborhood. She told him she had spoken with the last people who had seen Patricia Vargas alive. This irritated him and she irritated him further by asking whether he had killed her.
His calculated response was to begin unbuttoning her blouse and say “It's better we let the dead rest.” When he pushed the sides of her blouse aside and tried to kiss her she escaped, buttoned her blouse, and told him not to change the subject. She told him in no uncertain words that he was to stop sending photos or contacting her or she would have to tell her husband. “You won't like having the police come after you.”
His accusations of jealousy followed but Laura was almost unflappable. She accused him of seducing her so that she would “forget” about Patricia's death. As she watched his reaction she let him know that he was very wrong about this. She told him to leave or else, then walked away. It was perhaps foolhardy of her to turn her back on him, but he left.

Raquel went to the hospital to Damián's room. The nurse told her there had been no change, then left her alone. Raquel stared at Damián, then told him something that didn't wake him up.
I bedded Santiago and I didn't do it for revenge. I did it because I'm in love with him. That's the most important thing in my life and ...I don't know. Was it like that for you and Carolina? No. No. It has nothing in common. Love at first sight? No.” She took off her coat. “It's your fault,” she said, ironically. “I'm afraid Santiago doesn't feel the same way. It's too important. He's not like that. He is sincere, he is loyal, and a great friend in return. Unconditional, but much more unconditional than his wife. For his family. Did you think about us? Or only about your desire? I can't let myself feel bad because I never denied you anything. But on the other hand what do I know? What do I do now? [???]
She held back her tears as best she could. There was no reaction from Damián.

While Santiago prepared dinner, Lola asked him about Alina. As he explained he had gone to see her to arrange payment and to bring her to meet Bebo he realized that she was fishing for information about his love life.
Nicolás watched as Alina told Bebo she would help him achieve his dreams. Bebo laughed, saying he had no dreams anymore. Being in jail cured him of that because “in jail it's a luxury to have dreams. All you can do is hope, count the hours until you complete your sentence, and look inside as to how to change your life.”
I do understand you, but you have to have the strength to leave that behind,” Alina said. She then put her hand on his knee. “You know you can count on me for everything you need.”
Nicolás noticed this because she clearly meant him to. Bebo excused himself to go to the bathroom and Nicolás quietly confronted Alina.
What game are you playing?”
What are you talking about?”
You want to tell me? Why did you do that? Did you do that to bother me?”
She laughed.
The world doesn't revolve around you, little boy,” she said. “It's best you learn that quickly.
He stared at her, as though seeing her for the first time.

Fernando and Cinthia were talking about his situation with Laura when her cell rang. Raquel wanted to talk to her. She went into another room to continue the conversation.

Later Bebo and Alina were leaving. She offered to drive him wherever he needed to go. He tried to decline the offer, saying he would get a cab. She told him it was no bother. The Álvarados said good night to their guests and went inside. Alina's cell began ringing. She told Bebo she had to take this call. He stepped away as she did.
What do you want?” she said.
I want to be with you,” said Nicolás.
No.”
You're leaving with Bebo?”
This is the last time you will insinuate anything like this or you have no rights.”
I want you.”
You are my employee. That better be clear.”
She ended the call. Nico looked at his phone as Santiago came down the stairs.
Nico, is everything alright with your boss?”
Nicolás couldn't answer his father.

Cinthia returned to the Becker house to an apologetic Raquel. She spologized in return, took responsibility for making a pass at Damián back in the day, saying it was the drugs that made her do it. She told Raquel she loved her. This seemed to make Raquel happy, but Cinthia did not look sincere. When Raquel backed up so that she could look at her face to face, Cinthia talked about how she was not worthy of any man in comparison to Raquel, she got the predictable answer. Raquel told her this was not true and further, that to live with the love of one's life isn't necessarily going to go as predicted.
She told her she had to value herself.
But you have Santiago.”
Raquel admitted her feelings for Santiago, but also her uncertainty.

Lola went to Legato and Azucena started showing her around. Unfortunately the first person to appear in front of them was Andres. His predatory smile was strictly for Lola's benefit.
Lesson Number Two,” said Azucena. “Stay away from that one.”
Yes, I know.” Lola had turned away. Azucena seemed to know what she meant.

Federico approached Sabrina about studying at her house. She had other ideas, but agreed. He felt like he had somehow messed up.
Mia told Nicolás that her shrink said to ditch him. He shouted at her “Don't you realize I'm in love with you?” This got the attention of the other students and an “I told you so” from Federico.

After talking briefly with Nacho and Augustin at work, Santiago had to face Gabriela, who told him she had told Raquel that he only had eyes for her.

Raquel commented to Cinthia that she (Cin) had never been in love. Cinthia started to say that this was going to change, but when Raquel asked who the lucky man was she couldn't get out of the room fast enough. A sigh later Raquel called Santiago. She was a little ill at ease asking how things went with his lawyer. There was no awkwardness on his part when he said that things had gone well. Finally they agreed to see each other the next day. He seemed not to realize what was on her mind. She was not entirely reassured that Alina was not her competition.

The next morning Santiago confronted Nacho about what he knew about Carolina and why he didn't tell him. Nacho didn't want to upset him merely on the basis of what Augustin said he had overheard. Santiago felt betrayed because Nacho was his best friend.

Rafael was talking on his cell phone when Antonio arrived at the office. He watched him until he saw him go into someone else's office and close the door behind him. He ended the call and went into Antonio's office to look at his computer. An accusation was on the screen and he began reading. He heard Antonio's voice getting louder so he closed out of the document and got up. He claimed to have been waiting for him. Antonio dismissed the other man and closed the door. He demanded the DNA results on Benjamín. Rafael told him that there was a contamination problem. Antonio glanced at his computer screen and saw it was dark. He looked back at Rafael.

Rueda entered Miriam's office. She knew that Raquel had been in Damián's room in the hospital and she was angry. When she demanded to know what happened with the restraining order he gave her the news she didn't want to hear, that the judge could not be bribed. He had said that the only reason for a restraining order would be if Raquel were proven to be mentally ill. The further bad news for Miriam was that she did not have the primary right to remove Damián from the hospital. Raquel had that right and in her absence Damián's children did. Her own was secondary to theirs. She asked about the DNA test.
Give me time; I'm working on it,” he said. “Sooner or later there will be results.”
Good. If justice in this country won't help me, there are other methods.”
What are you thinking about, Señora?”

Fernando arrived at the station where Rafael told him that Antonio was up in arms about the DNA test needing to be repeated. He asked whether he was working on another case.
Yes. Police corruption.”
Rafael looked caught by surprise, but only for a moment. Fernando laughed.
Relax; it was only a joke.”
Both laughed. But Fernando was deadly serious and Rafael knew it. They talked about a drug case but Fernando gave out no information. Rafael said he was going to the lab. Fernando stared after him.

Laura's news broadcast that night was about Patricia's death and the letter received by Lola Álvarado. She started raising doubts about whether this was suicide or something else like police corruption. She said that Patricia had a lover who was very powerful, which hinted at a coverup. She pointed out that this story is because “there are thousands like Patricia in the country, victims of power. And because this is related to the Becker case.”

Juan stalked Lola at Legato and found her talking in a friendly manner with Bebo. He didn't like this and before an argument could break out grabbed Lola by the arm and started leading her away from her second day at work.

The forensic med techs paid another visit to the Álvarado home to take more blood samples. Benjamín started crying, which caused Santiago to say that this was cruel and for them to stop tormenting them. Fernando apologized; he was clearly embarrassed. Santiago told them to find their own way out as he held the boy to comfort him.

Nicolás entered Alina's office without knocking. She didn't look up from her desk as she asked whether her secretary had given him his assignment and that she was too busy. He leaned over her desk and demanded to know whether she had boinked Bebo. She dodged the question and asked whether he would be jealous if she had boinked his father. This made him angry but before he could answer she backed him up against the wall saying that he had better not get jiggy with anyone else or she will make him sorry. This was followed by her forcefully removing his jacket. He obeyed by removing his shirt and this culminated in vertical sex against the wall in the corner.
Neither seemed to be thinking about the fact that it was still working hours and there were windows in the interior wall.

After he had driven her home, Lola argued with Juan about what he had done. Bebo had been a life-long friend, but Juan refused to accept this, demanding that she never see Bebo again. She finally went inside and slammed the gate in his face.
Santiago put Benjamín to bed and spoke with Nacho about Bebo. Lola came inside but did not talk about what had happened. She greeted Nacho, then told them she had a headache and was going to lie down. After this the two men talked about the burned car and the DNA test. Nacho said that he hoped that the test proved that Benjamín was Santiago's son and that he had a good lawyer on his side. Santiago agreed, but had a strange feeling about Alina. This surprised Nacho a little; he commented on Alina's beauty and said he should be careful.

Cinthia told Fernando she wanted to get in good with her sister. He told her that she worked for him now and he needed all the proof she could get him against Rafael, which included recordings. She had to get the necessary proof or she would end up getting arrested. He did not know that Rafael was watching them.

Miriam went into Damián's hospital room and used the IV rack to prevent the sliding door from being opened. She went to the bed and looked at him.
My son, son of my life. You don't deserve this irony. No, no. Nothing in this life is waiting for you. I always wanted the best.” The nurse who had let Raquel in earlier walked by and saw her. “It would be better if you left in peace.” She reached for the breathing tube. The nurse knocked on the window.
Señora, Señora, please open the door!” she said.
Miriam leaned over Damián and kissed his hair. Other hospital personnel came and began yelling to her to open the door. Raquel arrived in time to see Miriam pull out the tube from the mouthpiece and reach for the pillow. Miriam removed the pillow and put it over Damián's face. Another nurse pulled Raquel away from the window.

Wow, what an ending! This was a long recap, thank you!! It’s not on here yet so maybe I’ll understand a bit more tonight with my prior knowledge. ;)
I keep wondering about Azucena. She sure knows a lot and is very loyal to Dam.
CaliA

You're welcome. Mine are usually much longer but I didn't have time to do my usual allotment of dialogue or much in the way of literary touch today.

I never thought Miriam would do this but I'm glad that Raquel was there and that there were so many witnesses. Raquel now has grounds for a restraining order against Miriam, which could call a lot of other things into question.

Including the alleged contamination in the DNA test. Rafael is in Rueda's pocket.

UA: I see the Latina Mrs. Robinson is feeling up on Bebo. However, she continues to rape Nicolas inside the office with Windows in the interior wall.

Of course, she knocked up Beni!

Anon: When did Patricia get whacked & how ?

I don't trust Azucena either. Her body language said it all!

Plus, who's the bouncing baby Lola is holding all the time ?

I thought the Lola/Andres/Azucena scenes were in the past, because I thought Andres had fired Lola in the present?

I also thought the Fede/Sabrina scenes were in the past.

Mia/Therapist/Nico I thought was also in the past because her therapist just told her last week she had to cut off everyone who hurts her (Nico included).

I'm confused on whether it's Bebo working at Legato (since he got offered a job with Santiago) or if it's Lola working at Legato (b/c I'm under the impression Andres fired her).

Laura is playing dangerous games with Juan and Godoy is playing dangerous games with Cintia/Rafael.

In my cold opinion Raquel should let Miriam kill Damian, then have her arrested for Damian's murder so she can keep the money and be rid of Miriam & Damian in one fell swoop.

Benjamin is the bouncing baby Lola is holding all of the time. Benja is Caro's baby with ???

Patricia allegedly committed suicide but Lola got a letter last week sent by Patricia that accuses people (Miguel? Juan? Andres) of coming to get her. Lola gave Laura the letter and now Laura suspects Juan had something to do with Patricia's demise. Laura tried to give the letter to Antonio to investigate Patricia's death but he told her the case was closed & it was a suicide, even after reading Patricia's letter. That's why Laura went on the news and said it was a police cover up.

Azucena is loyal to her paycheck. Damian/Legato is signing her paycheck, not Raquel. Plus everyone knows or should know the administrative assistant is the one who knows all of the secrets and who is actually running things.

I don't think Alina can pull any tricks on Bebo. She very well might sleep with him but he knows what time it is. Nico & the other kid are young, dumb and horny. Especially dumb, which is why she went after them in the first place.

I think the Gabriela scenes are also in the past; we haven't seen Gabriela or Christian in the present.

Urban, never apologize for your recaps. They are always full of detail and you nail the action. (And the writing is so good, too.) Thank you, so much. I won't get to watch this for another few days, so the recaps are invaluable.

Company underfoot, but I can answer you, Anon207, as I did Nina yesterday: Benji's paternity is about to be settled. The judge ordered a DNA test, which Santi didn't want, afraid Benji would be taken away from him if it turned out he was Damian's. It was taken a few episodes back.

What you have been seeing in the tres anos antes episodes is Damian insisting the baby to-be-born is his while Caro tells him they can't be sure since she also had sex with Santi at the family retreat 2.0, around the time she got pregnant.

In the last pregnancy, which ended with Caro's death, the baby was determined to be Santi's.

Now, it seems, the DNA on Benji was "corrupted???" So that's why it was being done again.

P.S. Miriam isn't thinking ahead. If Damian dies (whether by her hand or not), the bulk of his estate will go to Raquel. That is unless she knows whether he even has a will.

Haven't we discussed before that in Mexico, the next of kin gets the estate if someone dies intestate? Wouldn't that be Raquel, as his wife? If not Raquel, then it would have to go to Mia and Fede.....and Benji (!!).

Isn't Rueda trying to get info on both Santi AND Raquel, as per Miriam's orders? Then the two of them had better be careful. Raquel can still be charged with adultery.

Oh, well, WE would all be better off with Damian dead. So, on with the shew!

Well we really won't know Benjamin's paternity because Rueda has dirty Rafael trying to muck up the results, on Miriam's orders. We don't know if she's ordered the DNA to be in Damian's favor or in Santiago's favor. Because Miriam & Rueda have a dirty cop inside the case to tamper with the DNA, I suspect the test will say that Damian is the father...therefore Benjamin's paternity is the motive for Santiago killing Carolina & Damian (so now Santiago & Raquel can go straight to jail).

Damian may actually be Benjamin's father but we'll never know for sure because the police department is corrupt. Damian actually could've been the father of Caro's last pregnancy but we don't know if Antonio was telling Santiago the truth about that paternity or not.

I think if/once Raquel and Santiago discover the police department corrupted Benjamin's paternity tests they will choose not to find out for sure, and to raise him as Raquel & Santiago's child.

Thanks UA!

I don't think Damian will die but this will probably setback his potential recovery. My guess is he will wake up towards the end to say goodbye, ask for forgiveness etc.

I don't fully agree that if Nacho and Agustin had told Santiago what they saw/heard in regards to Caro and Damian that it would've made a difference. Caro would've still stayed with Damian. They were not only willing to abandon their spouses and older children but Benjamin as well. The botched DNA test seemed random to me. Why delay it further? Obviously Santiago was not happy. Poor Benjamin. To me he's the true victim of this story.

Andres and Mike seem the likely suspects of Patricia's death but Juan isn't off the list.

I don't think Bebo is that dumb to fall under Alina's spell. I wanna see more of her former boy toy though so we can get more background on her and her motives.

I don't know if Raq can ever trust Cin, but I think Cin is the only one that won't judge her in regards to her (Raq) feelings for Santiago.

Raquel needs to be free of her sister; drug addicts are bad news and always drag their families down.

I'm sure Rafael screwed up the DNA test and will try again. In other novelas we've seen the behind-the-scenes of this but not sure we will this time.

As for the DNA test, if the test results come back saying Benjamin is Damian's child (whether this is true or not) Miriam could theoretically sue for custody. However, she just jeopardized her chances of succeeding in this with her attempt on Damian's life. There were too many witnesses to her actions.

Santiago is this child's father in every definition that means anything. He loves this child, takes care of him, plays with him, and tucks him into bed at night. When did Damian do any of that?

I know nothing about Mexican inheritance law and since Miriam is the titular CEO of Legato she might end up with the company. We know that Andres only has a small share but we don't know whether Miriam or Damian has the largest share and therefore the controlling interest.

Thanks UA!!!

I am shocked by the ending! This seems completely out of character for Miriam, meaning that if she wanted to kill Damian she would have paid a nurse to do it or someone else. Could this be a dream? If it's not a dream then, whether or not Dam lives, she becomes suspect 1 in the murder of Caro.

Thanks, Urban. You say this recap is "just the facts" but your "just the facts" makes for fine reading.

I too am shocked about Miriam. You'd expect her to be more discreet, but she loves her son so maybe she got overcome by emotion seeing him helpless for so long.

Will Nico use his brains and tell his dad what his boss is up to? Such a shame both Nico and Lola have a perfectly good parent but they won't ask hime for help.

I am coming to the Raquel-Santi table. That poor woman needs some joy and if she can find it with Santi, despite all the baggage, I'm onboard.

Anita: I'm afraid Benjamin is Damian's kid, which means he'll be taken away & sent to the Beckers, where Psychopath Mia is there OMG.

Niecie: I really hope I'm wrong about Benjamin being Damian's....

Urban good recap. The craziness just a
Keeps on comin.

Alina is a piece of work. She's what U
Call twisted sister. I think she needs therapy. That won't happen.

There was a contamination?!?! Really?
Ok lets do it again. Ay these people.
Poor benji.
So the old girl wanted to take out her
Son. Sick ol biddy. Ok that's it for now.
One more thing, I really hope benji is
Not Damian's offspring. That would be
To cruel. Ok bye.
Thanks Urban.

Thanks Urban for the recap.

My reaction to Miriam's attempt at 'mercy killing' of her only son, Damian, was: OK you're toast. Forget about the restraining order. Raquel needs to press charges for attempted murder of her husband and have Miriam arrested even if she's handcuffed to bed in a psych ward. Miriam's lawyer and Andres will try to prevent charges but I hope Raquel plays this card. Of course we have no idea where the writers will take this.

Bebo needs to watch his back with Juan who I think is quite capable of murder.

I agree that Raquel should bring charges against Miriam. Since Raquel knows that Andres is bad news -- despite not knowing about his involvement in underage prostitution -- she should also take over the company. Neither of these women know about Andres' theft of supplies either, which would be more than enough reason to drop-kick him out, change all the locks, and tell security that he is no longer welcome.

I also agree that Bebo needs to watch his back. Juan is perfectly capable of murder and should be in a psych ward right now.
