Mi Marido Tiene Familia #89, 12/26/2017 A Mother’s Rights Can Be So Wrong

[Previously, Robert is on the phone with his adoptive parents when Dave’s mother, Yela, appears and tells him she is ready to talk about Dave.] After Robert tells Leonor to go tell the patient he will be there shortly, Robert tells Yela that they kept looking for her, but she never responded. Yela replies that there were too many problems, but Robert emphasizes that there is no excuse…nothing can excuse her for abandoning a son. After Robert wonders if she knows how much David suffered because of her, Yela nods and cries that she knew and asks what she could do if her situation was so complicated. Robert reminds her that he was going to help her and so was the foundation, yet she turned her back on David and left him. Yela admits that Robert has every reason to reproach her; she left because she was a coward. She is there to listen to all he has to say. When Robert asks if she knows what has been happening with David, Yela nods and tells him she just came from the orphanage. She is very happy that her David is with such a good person as Robert. Robert then informs her that he and his wife are about to complete the process to adopt Dave; they waited for her to see if she would contest the termination of parental rights. Yela has no complaint, but she wants to ask a favor—to see David…for just a moment; though she knows she doesn’t have a right to anything.

At the Córsega’s, Imelda and Audi eat together and discuss Ana asking Tulio for a divorce and how Ana is recovering…she has stopped taking pills. Imelda worries that Audi is working for Tulio, but Audi emphasizes that Tulio is his brother…and Tulio is not as bad as he appears; though Audi does see Tulio reacting badly to the divorce. Meanwhile at Ana’s, Ana introduces Mr. Yzaguirre, her attorney, to Tulio and informs him that she just initiated the proceedings for the divorce. Back at the Córsega’s, Imelda confides that she is still very hurt with everything Tulio has done to them, but she still wants Audi to tell Tulio that he still has his mother who continues to be alive; though she doesn’t know for how much longer. She also wants Audi to tell Tulio that he can come see her; she will listen because, like all mothers, she is a good person.

At the school, Dave goes into the restroom followed by the blonde bully who tells Dave he looks like a melted candle.

In front of the TV station, the fans yell as Xavi walks out. Icknacio walks out from the crowd and tells everyone to be quiet. Icknacio shouts tha he doesn’t understand how they can admire a guy like this…he is a cynic and a liar! Icknacio wants the world to know that Xavi Galán destroyed his home…he got his wife involved with him and she cheated on Ick with this failure. The worst thing is that they want to take his daughter from him.

At the school, Dave is locked in a restroom stall as the blonde bully orders him to come out and calls him a melted monster. Dave yells at him to leave him alone but the bully keeps yelling and baning on the door. Meanwhile outside, Frida looks for Dave. When the two other mean kids see her, they run into the restroom and join in taunting Dave and kicking the stall door.

In the English class, Blanca finishes an exercise and the students clap, but the bully yells out telling her, “Very good, Grandma! With luck, you’ll graduate before you’re wake.” Blanca confronts him as she says, “Every time, you seem dumber. I told you not to mess with me. You’d better respect me!” As she pinches his nose, she asks if that was clear to him. After he gets up and tries to get away, she releases him and the bully just looks at the teacher as Blanca goes to sit down.

At the school, the bullies continue to kick the door. After Dave yells out in fear and frustration asking the bullies to leave him alone, Frida walks in and firmly tells the bullies that they will not bother Dave. After the bullies deny doing anything and point out that Frida is in the boy’s bathroom, Frida doesn’t care and reiterates that they will not do anything to Dave. The blonde bully chides Dave for having to be defended by a girl. Frida yells that if Dave was afraid to report them, she will report them. She pushes the blonde bully against the wall and tells him that David is not alone! Just then, Aris walks in and asks what is going on. When Frida tells him that the bullies are bothering Dave, the bullies deny it, but Frida points out that Dave is locked up in the restroom stall. The bullies try to run away, but Aris stops them as Frida tells Dave to come out. After Aris also tells Dave to come out, Dave comes out so Frida hugs him. Aris then starts to take the bullies to the office, but they plead with Aris not to take them. Aris insists that they deserve to be punished for bothering defenseless children. Aris continues to reproach them until Dave approaches and asks him not to report them. Aris warns the bullies that they’d better not bother Dave anymore. If Aris finds out that they bother Dave again, he will take them directly to the director so they can be expelled. After the boys run off, Aris tells Dave that he can’t keep quiet about these things; if someone bothers him, he has to say something. Dave nods in agreement.

As Xavi and Mari walk together, Mari comments that she can’t believe Ick was capable of something like that…he is going crazy. She continues that with what Ick has done, he is only hurting Frida. After Xavi shows Mari that the video has been posted on the web and the comments have started, Mari tells him she will fix things, but Xavi wonders how. When Mari tells him that she viewed a tutorial on managing crises, Xavi chides her for thinking she can handle this crisis based on a tutorial. Mari tells him to calm down; she had nothing to do with what Ick did. Xavi then points out that if he is considered a home wrecker and she is considered as an unfaithful wife, all their concerts will be cancelled. Mari takes offense and reiterates that she will handle it…she is his manager. Mari walks away upset.

As Blanca drives, she practices her English. As she continues to drive, she sees the cop who stopped her and stops. She gets down to show him her license and registration, but the cop points out he didn’t stop her. Blanca reminds him that he stopped her a few days ago and had her car impounded. He also made her feel useless and stupid. When the cop doesn’t remember the incident, Blanca insists that he review all her documents. He then tells her he doesn’t have time right now because he is handing out a citation, but Blanca criticizes him for acting in haste and not hesitating in taking her vehicle. When the cop asks if she is feeling alright or if she took something, Blanca assumes he thinks that she is drunk. She again tells him why she stopped and is glad to see that he stops men too…not just women. After she thanks him and says “Bye” in English, the cop just shakes his head in disbelief.

At the visit with the fortune teller, Linda complains to her “suegris” that she doesn’t like the place; so Cat warns Linda to respect this place. Cat is going to tell Calen to give her a spell to make Linda stop calling her “suegris.” When Linda questions if Cat really believes in all these things, Cat explains that Calen is an illuminator…when he will reveal her destiny she will be surprised. Just then Calen arrives and feels a very negative energy…he approaches them and tells them they hate each other.

Robert arrives at the apartment and tells Julieta he has something very important to tell her—Dave’s mother wants to see him.

At the fortune teller’s place, the fortune teller says his mumbo jumbo and reads the cards. There are many good-byes for Cat. He can’t see faces, but these are good-byes that will help her grow. He points to Linda, but she tells him she is only there to accompany Cat. When he tells her that the best stage in love is coming, her ears perk up and she asks if he can see Bruno. Calen can only see a young man that ties a sock on his door, but they will have to overcome a great obstacle. Linda wonders if there can be a greater obstacle than Cat’s and Julieta’s hate, so Calen assures her there is. He can’t see what it is, but it is much greater.

At their apartment, Robert tells Julieta that they must be very cautious in handling the situation. Dave’s mother told him she just wants to see him for a little while, but Julieta wonders if it’s true. Robert shares that Yela seemed truly regretful and is very appreciative of them…they cannot deny her the right to see Dave. Julieta remarks that Dave has a right to see her, but questions, “Why now?” This will just complicate things and all they needed was some signature to finalize the adoption process. Robert understands, but the only thing Yela wants is to see Dave; he is sure she will do whatever they say and suggests they see each other at the foundation. Julieta wonders how Dave is going to feel upon seeing his mother; he is going to get confused. Robert feels that Yela just wants to see Dave one last time...as if to say good-bye. Julieta knows she is being selfish, but she needs to tell that woman everything she thinks. Robert reminds Julieta that he was once where Dave is now and Dave needs to understand things; he tells Julieta that they should think of Dave. As Julieta hesitantly agrees, Robert hugs her.

Blanca arrives at the bakery with her English book. When she speaks to Eugenio in English, he chides her for always having that book with her, but Blanca needs to always have it so she can refer to it whenever she needs to. After they discuss how Eugenio should ask her what she means, Eugenio scolds her for getting into it with the cop, but Blanca argues that the cop had disrespected her and she wanted to show the cop that a woman like her is capable of doing many things. Eugenio wonders if she will learn to love again, so Blanca assures him she will as she gives him a warm, loving smile. As Eugenio smiles in satisfaction he turns as he carries a tray, but gets a pain and falls to his knees. After Xavi runs in to help pick him up, Eugenio tells him he just needs a little bit of time…it will pass.

At Julieta’s apartment, Linda arrives with a bouquet of flowers for Julieta. When Julieta sighs in disgust, Linda explains that she saw the flowers and thought she would like them. Linda walks right in though Julieta tells her she doesn’t like the flowers. Linda won’t take no for an answer; she had make a double effort to get the flowers and listen to the fortune teller who told her there would be a great obstacle between her and Bruno. Julieta tells Linda that this is not a good time and, besides, she told her from the start, that the universe would not accept a relationship between her and Bruno. Linda then goes to the kitchen to wash dishes because she wants a double checkmark for today, but Julieta tells her she doesn’t have to do it. Julieta doesn’t need Linda to continue with the list; she now knows that Linda loves her brother. Surprised, Linda assures Julieta that she does love Bruno; if not she would never have accepted her orders. Julieta tells her it was a lesson so Linda could realize how badly it feels when people set trials to prove that a person loves another. When Julieta confirms that she will now let Linda continue with Bruno in peace, she also gives Linda advice: don’t allow your life to end, just so you can be accepted. After Julieta asks Linda to forgive her for giving her such a harsh list, Linda is elated that Julieta would ask for her forgiveness; though Julieta assures her it won’t happen again too soon. Linda then admits that she should ask Julieta to forgive her for all the times she made her feel bad. Julieta explains that was the point of the whole thing—that Linda realize she can’t go through life declaring war everywhere, and least of all not obligate people as she obligated Julieta to gain merit points for having the privilege of being her sister-in-law. Linda thinks that they have discussed enough. She now only has to worry about the great obstacle the fortune teller warned her about. Julieta remarks that Linda should believe in those things; she should focus on what she likes…and she and Bruno should motivate each other to grow and prove that they can be together.

At the bakery, Eugenio continues to groan in pain, so Blanca wants to call Juan Pablo, but Eugenio refuses. After Blanca chides Eugenio for not going to all his therapy sessions and gives him some pills, Xavi shares that he has noticed that Eugenio has been suffering for some quite a few days. Xavi talked to one of his friends to ask if they would lend him a wheelchair. Blanca frowns as she knows how Eugenio will react; and Eugenio refuses the offer and tells Xavi he is exaggerating things. Eugenio thinks he just needs some time and to go to this therapy sessions; he is still strong. Blanca goes along with Eugenio and tells Xavi to help her get Eugenio up to their house.

Mari goes to talk to Ick at Begonia’s restaurant. When Begonia tells Mari she is not welcome, Mari snaps back, “Don’t talk to me like that. I’m not the dummy I used to be. Tell Ignacio I have to speak to him urgently.” Begonia smirks and responds that Ick already worked his hours for the day; and she doesn’t know where he is. As Begonia tells Mari that Ick is just another employee and doesn’t want Mari involving her in his problems, Ick approaches; so Begonia rolls her eyes and leaves. When Ick asks Mari what she wants, Mari comments that she now understands why Ick is now so desperate to be involved in their lives. Ick makes it clear that as long as his daughter is alive, he will be part of Mari’s life. He will show her what he is capable of. Mari tells him that she is no longer afraid of him and adds that if does something else like today, she will ask for a restraining order; and he won’t be able to get close to her or her daughter.

In their bedroom, Blanca rubs some cream on Eugenio as he tells her he feels useless. He doesn’t understand what’s happening to him, but he is not the same as he used to be. He is old; and the worst thing is that he refuses to accept it. Blanca assures him that he can count on her, she is at his side. It’s true that they are both entering old-age, but he shouldn’t say he is useless. Eugenio is distraught as he tells Blanca that he doesn’t want to be a burden for her or their children. He is the man of the house and doesn’t want them to be taking care of him…or carrying him around. As he shakes his head in despair, Eugenio reiterates that he doesn’t want that. Blanca tenderly tells him that he will never be a burden for her. She continues that they have overcome so many things together…he is her companion, her other half, and she promised to be with him in good times and in bad.

At Ana’s house, Tulio comments to Audi that he promised to be with Ana is good times and in bad...but look at him now…everything is ending. Audi doesn’t know what to say. Tulio thinks he could say that he and Ana created the hell they now live in. When Audi mentions that he will leave Tulio alone and get back to work, Tulio advises him that, after the divorce, Tulio will probably not be able to continue employing him.

In Blanca’s bedroom, Eugenio comments that he sees Blanca as being so strong, so decisive with so many plans…and every time, she is more beautiful than ever…and he is just deteriorating. Blanca insists that they talk to Juan Pablo, but Eugenio is adamant that he doesn’t want that. And though he may not want, she will drive him to all his therapies and wait there for him. Blanca points out that life is complicated; they are born not knowing how to walk...and they end up like that when they are old. Eugenio doesn’t want her to continue, but Blanca adds that, though they may stop walking, or hearing or seeing, their love will remain intact…that will not change. If they need glasses or a cane—or whatever aid they may need—she will be his feet, his hands, his eyes; she’ll be whatever he needs, but she needs him not to give up and continue at her side. They then tell each other that they love one another and hug as they cry together.

As Robert, Julieta and Dave arrive at the foundation, Dave wonders why they returned to this place. Before Robert explains, he wants Dave to know that they love him very much and whatever happens, they will be there for him for whatever he needs. Robert then tells Dave that there is a person who wants to see him. When Dave asks who it is, Julieta tells him his mother has appeared. She reminds him that he had wanted to see her, and reiterates that whatever happens, they will always be there for him. Just then, Yela appears and says, “David, my son!” as she extends her hand out to him. After Dave seems afraid and steps back to hold hands with Robert and Julieta, his mother tells him she wanted to see him so much. She then tells Robert and Julieta that they have won over heaven with what they have done with her son. When Julieta asks why she has shown up now and Robert points out that she has seen that David is well, Robert reminds Dave that he wanted to see his mother; so Dave nods. Yela then thanks Dave for waiting for her for so long and asks to speak to Dave alone for just a few minutes. Julieta is ambivalent, but when Robert asks Dave is he wants to talk to his mother, Dave affirms that he does. Julieta wants to talk to Yela before they let Dave talk to her so Yela agrees; and Robert takes Dave elsewhere.

At the Mussi mansion, Augusto tells Gabriel that Daniela’s family was very nice…well, the grandmother was quite difficult initially, but they ended up on her good side. Augusto invited Gabriel over to discuss his taking over the businesses again now that he will be getting married. Augusto wants Gabriel to have a good, lawful marriage…and would like five grandchildren…so the Mussi name can be carried on.

At the foundation, Robert asks Dave if he is okay, then conducts some breathing exercises to calm Dave (and himself). When Dave asks what good this does, Robert explains that there will always be situations that arise in his path and breathing helps a lot. Dave wonders is Robert will be upset if he talks to his mother, but Robert assures him that he won’t. It’s just the contrary, because when Robert was a child, he would have given anything to see his parents; so Dave has every right to want to see his mother again. Robert asks for a hug and Dave gladly obliges.

At the Mussi mansion, Gabriel shakes his head and would like to address each point. First, Gabriel points out that one has to learn from their lessons. He appreciates that his father wants to help him, but refuses the offer. Gabriel wants to work on his own, but would like his father to give him the bonds he is entitled to. Augusto agrees since Gabriel is his heir. Augusto thinks that taking over his businesses will not interfere with Gabriel’s goals, but Gabriel argues that he thinks, in this case, they will interfere with his goals…he wants to be Gabriel Mussi. Gabriel concedes that they look and move alike, but he wants to be his own person; Augusto can’t control him. The second point is that…he is just dying to have little bears…of course, he will have them!! BUT, he will have to discuss it with Dani. He can, however, assure Augusto that there will be at least a couple—a boy and a girl. Augusto claps with joy! And they hug…

At the foundation, Julieta tells Yela that Dave has gone through a difficult process; and he is not a toy that you just move from here to there. Dave is a very sensitive child and they need to be careful with his feelings. Yela agrees that Dave is very sensitive…and that she has made mistakes. She admits that what she did was not fair to him. Julieta understands that Yela wants to see Dave, but it’s not right that she plays with his emotions. As she cries, Yela thinks that not even hell will be enough for her; she knows she is a bad mother. Julieta then reminds Yela that she made a decision that Julieta would not agree with—she shouldn’t have abandoned Dave. When Julieta questions if Yela realizes she is confusing Dave, Yela nods and doesn’t know how a child could have ended up with such a bad mother. Yela swears that she has suffered too. Julieta then thinks that Dave deserves to be at peace; so they should conclude this. Yela agrees and adds that she can’t imagine how her son suffered but she has also cried many tears.

Dani works in her shop as the Hermonsters arrive; Dani thinks she will have to lock the door. Clarissa doesn’t want Dani to receive them so badly; they come in good spirits. After Cassandra tells her they need to talk to her, Dani admits she was just kidding. They throw each other some snide remarks until Clarissa finally tells Dani that they are very excited about the wedding since Gabriel is their only brother. They want the wedding to be incredible and chic, so they want to take charge of the preparations. Dani thinks it’s really nice, so the Hermonsters jump with glee until Dani tells them, “Well, no! I don’t like the idea.” She purposely blows some sawdust from a board; and the Hermonsters start coughing as Dani smiles impishly.

At the school, Bruno gives another after school workshop to the students. As he starts his demonstration, Aris comes in and asks if he can stay. Bruno gladly agrees.

At Dani’s shop, Dani tells the Hermonsters to take a good look at her. As they do, she startles them when she blurts out that they can see she is different…she has been that way since she was a child. Cassandra thinks that everything can change for the better; and Clarissa points out the Dani will be entering a different world. Dani makes it clear that she will always be Daniela Córsega; this is her carpentry shop. They will not change her world; and she will not change theirs…every fish in their own tank. They should not worry about her carrying their name because it is not her name. As Dani comments that there is still much time for the wedding and she would like her family to also be involved in the preparations, Cassandra and Clarissa are aghast. Clarissa hopes that Dani isn’t thinking of having a public feast, but Dani doesn’t see anything wrong with it; besides that is something she needs to decide with Gabriel need to discuss…and if they don’t like it, they don’t have to attend.

As Robert and Julieta watch Yela talk to Dave, Julieta comments that she thought she knew herself well; she thought she would be prepared for this, but it is clear that she is not. Robert reminds Julieta that Dave has every right to see his mother whenever he wants. Julieta just wants them to run from there; she thinks Yela is very inconsiderate and a cynic. There is no excuse for her abandoning Dave. Just then, Robert’s adoptive parents call to tell him they have already bought their plane tickets and they will arrive the coming week-end to meet Julieta, Dave and his family. When Mr. Cooper asks about the adoption, Robert shares that Dave wanted to see his mother today. Mr. Cooper thinks that it is normal…Robert always wanted to see his parents too; and Mrs. Cooper adds that Dave needs that. Robert understands, but still fears that something will happen. Meanwhile, Julieta asks if Yela and Dave have finished talking. Yela tells her they have and they have made peace with each other. Julieta extends her hand to Dave as she comments that children sometimes accept things better than adults, but Yela keeps holding Dave. Yela thanks God for allowing Dave to find such good people. She then gets up and tells Dave to say good-bye to Julieta because they have to leave. Julieta is shocked and wants to know what Yela is talking about. Yela replies that she cannot live without her son; so she is going to take him. When Dave says, “Good-bye, Julieta. Thank you for everything,” Julieta tells him he can’t leave as she grabs his hand. Yela then pulls Dave’s hand away and tells Julieta that it’s too bad her husband got busy, but they will come back some other time to say good-bye to him. Yela hopes the heavens will repay her as she takes Dave away.

Julieta runs in gasping to find Robert who worries and wonders what’s happening. Julieta is finally able to blurt out that Yela took Dave. Robert desperately runs after Yela as Tavo comes in. Tavo wonders what’s happening, so Julieta tells him that Yela took Dave as she cries and leans on him.

Outside, Robert catches up and yells to Yela and Dave. Yela gives an expression of annoyance, but turns around and is glad that Robert was able to finish so they can say good-bye. Robert reminds her that they are going through the adoption process; she can’t just take Dave. They have to talk about it and call the orphanage. Yela knows that is what they should do, but she also knows that she arrived in time…they haven’t signed all the documents; so she can still claim her parental rights. Robert reminds her that she abandoned Dave and they looked for her everywhere; they are in the adoption process. Yela responds that Robert can do whatever he wants and asks if he is going to take her son from her. When she asks if he is seeing that she is taking Dave by force, Robert admits that he doesn’t. Yela then remarks that she was told she could take her son back, and that is what she is going to do. Robert understands that she is within her rights, but warns that he will not remain with his arms crossed. Yela tells Dave to say good-bye and offers her address so that Robert can go see Dave whenever he wants. As Robert says his good-bye, he hands Dave his card will all his contact information in case Dave needs him. When Dave asks if Robert is angry, Robert assures him he isn’t and that Dave has every right to go with his mother...if Robert had had the chance, he would have done the same thing. After Dave tells Robert that he loves him and they hug, Yela gives a suspicious look. She then tells Dave they have to go and gives Robert her information.

Inside the foundation, Julieta cries as she shares with Tavo that she never thought something like this would happen. She has never felt such an emptiness. She questions why she never saw this; Robert warned her a million times that she was going to love Dave so much…she doesn’t want to lose Dave. Tavo assures Julieta that this is not the end, but Julieta wonders if Yela will take Dave far away…or if the law will side with her; she is afraid for Dave. If that woman was capable of abandoning him once, she may do it again. Just then, Robert comes back in, so Julieta frantically walks after him and asks him for David. She yells, “I’m talking to you! Where is David?” Robert hesitates before he tells Julieta that the woman is exercising her right as a mother. He will call Carmelo to see what they can do. Julieta yells, “What do you mean what we are going to do? We have to go for David, Robert!” When Robert tells her they won’t do that, Julieta wonders if he is just going to let Dave go. Robert affirms that is what he is going to do, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t going to do anything about it. Julieta wonders how he can say that to her, but Robert asks her to calm down. Julieta chides him for remaining so calm…they just took David! Robert retorts, “Yes! That woman can do it because she is his mother!”

Somewhere on a sidewalk, Yela pulls Dave until he stops and asks her if he will see them again. Yela assures him that he will, then tells him not to be difficult. He should be glad she returned for him. After she looks at his scars and asks if he has something to cover himself, she takes his hand as she comments that the doctor who was supposed to be so good didn’t do anything after all. She pulls Dave with her as he keeps looking back.

Still in tears, Julieta doesn’t think that what is happening is fair. Robert agrees that it isn’t fair for them, but for the child it is. He reminds her that Dave wanted to see his mother; he waited for her ever since she left him at the hospital. Robert points out that Dave left all on his own without anyone forcing him. When Julieta questions if Robert thinks it’s what’s best, Robert doesn’t know, but he is sure of something…when he was a child, he would have given everything to see his parents again. Julieta wonders why...why can’t they be parents? Robert reminds her they have each other. They hug as Julieta recalls her discussions with Robert and special times with Dave…and Robert remembers crying out for his parents as a child.

Comments:
I think Yela was putting on a good show. Some of those looks she gave were cold and suspicious. I'm hopeoing that Dave is somehow returned to Robert and Julieta.

I really enjoyed:

the scenes with Dani and the Hermonsters.
Mari standing up to Begone and Ick

More tomorrow...

Thanks, RGV Chick! This was an excellent recap and a spot-on title. Lots of heart-rending stuff in this episode.
I really enjoy Diana Bracho as Blanca. In all the other roles I’ve seen, she has been an evil and controlling queen bee. It’s refreshing to see what she can do as a warm and sympathetic woman, who wants to grow and achieve her dreams.
Telenovelas are good (most of the time) in paying attention to the emotional lives/loves of older couples. Blanca and Eugenio were quite touching as he expressed his fears of growing older and weaker and she reassured him of her love and support.
Linda and Bruno are still meh to me, but Linda and Catalina are comic gold. Hilarious!
Dave’s tormentors are evil and heartless! Glad Frieda and Ari came to put some fear into them.
I fear for Dave’s future with his mother. I suspect she has some ulterior motive in taking him back. Juli’s pain at this additional loss tore me up.

Rgv Chick, "A Mother's Rights Can Be So Wrong" could not have been a more fitting title.

Incredibly insightful and simply inspiring.

“Xavi then points out that if he is considered a home wrecker and she is considered as an unfaithful wife, all their concerts will be cancelled”. These words were not in tune (so to speak) with Xavi's true feelings that Mari and Frida have undeniably become his world. I was also cheering Mari's standing her ground with the cruel Begonia and her reprehensible ex. Now that his fragile ego has been trampled on by Beg, he takes it out on his family. Hasn't he hurt them enough??

"Blanca points out that life is complicated; they are born not knowing how to walk...and they end up like that when they are old she will be his feet, his hands, his eyes; she’ll be whatever he needs, but she needs him not to give up and continue at her side'. A fire burns, with kindness as the accelerant.

"Augusto invited Gabriel over to discuss his taking over the businesses again now that he will be getting married". I'm glad he has taken these all important steps to maintain his relationship with his son, accepting Dani.

Those bullies made me sick. Small, hateful boys will grow into monstrous men. Who else could save Dave but fierce Frieda? My hero!

La Paloma, I have no doubt Dave's mother is after something. I fear it is money. "After she looks at his scars and asks if he has something to cover himself, she takes his hand as she comments that the doctor who was supposed to be so good didn’t do anything after all" reveals she has no heart. Or conscience. I am fearful for what will come next.

It was heartbreaking watching Robert see himself in Dave, desperately seeking his mother and her love. Of course, this is an entirely different scenario as Robert's mother was ripped from his arms while Dave's mother simply walked away.

Poor Julieta....

Thank you Rgv Chick. This was thought provoking and thoughtful. As always.

Diana

Excellent recap and title! Thank you, RgvChick.

One thing I did like was Robert being able to put himself in Dave’s shoes and telling Julieta he would have done anything to have seen his parents again while at the same time not fully trusting Yela.

Finally, the adults know that Dave is being bullied. That bathroom scene was horrendous. So true , Diana: “Small hateful boys will grow up to be monstrous men”.

Mentioning bullies, what a great nose twist Blanca delivered to that bully in her class.

Luckily for everybody, including Eugenio, Blanca came home from her hiatus totally revitalized. LaPaloma, I agree that those scenes with Eugenio and Blanca were very touching. I never thought about it really but you are right about the novelas tending to include the emotional lives of older couples.

Yay! The Coopers are coming to visit.

I was not happy to hear that Audifaz will most likely be losing his job when Ana and Tulio divorce.

Cannot wait for tonight.

One more thing: so sad that Yela (I always want to call her yema ; ) )wanted Dave to cover her scars and her own guilt, I guess.

“His” scars.

Jarifa: I still do NOT trust Daddy Mussi at all. He's got something up his sleeve in regards to destroying Dani.

Gabriel fell into the trap hook, line & sinker OMG.

Diana: The school bullies UGH!

RVG Chick: Dani held her own with the Buji Mussi Monster Sisters.

"Yela (I always want to call her yema ; ) )wanted Dave to cover her scars and her own guilt, I guess'" was beyond perceptive Jarifa....

Diana

Thank you, La Paloma, Diana, and Jarifa!

This episode truly was a heart-rendering one. Interesting how some of the storylines are on the road to resolution and happiness, yet others still have quite a way to go to be resolved...and we only have 13 episodes to go! Theses last few episodes are going to be jam-packed. I've enjoyed this TN so much that; I'm probably going to get withdrawal symptoms when it concludes.

I agree with everyone, Yela is up to no good. Diana, your thought that she wants money is probably right...at Dave's expense. Jarifa, I agree that Yela asking about Dave covering his scars was very sad and disappointing, but I don't think it is out of guilt. I think she is just as grossed out by them as she was the day he was burned...and she left him behind because of it.

La Paloma, "Blanca and Eugenio were quite touching as he expressed his fears of growing older and weaker and she reassured him of her love and support." Very toughing indeed. There must have been a very intense love for these two to overcome such tragedy and still maintain that love despite all the torment, anger and bitterness. Diana, "A fire burns, with kindness as the accelerant." Beautifully stated!

Jarifa, that nose twist was a hoot! Yet I still question why the instructor still has that bully in her class...he should have been out of there since the first day. That type of bullying is prevalent in elementary and secondary schools, but in adult classes? There must have be some type of rules/guidelines when they first enrolled.

Steve, I really think Daddy Mussi is trying to keep the peace with his son. I hope he doesn't regress to his formed vain, controlling self.

I am still waiting for Tulio's anvil though. Surely a divorce is not enough to make up for all he hass done.

I have a question. Do we know how Dave got burned?

There are only 13 episodes left??? Say it isn't so Rgv Chick!

This is one of my all time favorites. Everyone has been stellar but Daniel Arenas exuded such an aura of kindness, I have no doubt he will be one of the characters I will long remember.

Diana: We'll be seeing a 2nd Season of this TN.

I hope they run it same time next year.

RGV Chickie, great title, great recap, thanks!

I love this TN and I've said so several times, but there are a few things that annoy me. For instance, there are scenes that I would like to see finished, resolved, before cutting away. The dinner scene at the Córcega's is one example. We got to see an interesting dinner with a lot of give and take, but I would have liked to see how people behaved at the end, just how friendly it was all around. Still, this is small potatoes, as are the other thread problems. It's still a great TN.

Yela's taking away Dave was a real bummer, especially for Julieta. I was never quite sure what the resolution of the adoption process was. It didn't seem reasonable that the adoption had been finalized, but I thought it might just be a TN speedup. I was probably wrong about it being finalized, but if not then Yela can't just take Dave away, legally. Um, legally... I suppose the laws of TNlandia would apply.

And Dave seemed awfully passive about it, though it must have been tough for him either way. Much as he might love Rob and Julieta, he has known and loved his biological mom all his life.

And Yela is up to no good here.

Thanks you, Andy!

I was a bit confused about the adoption process. From what I understaood, initially, they had to make attempts to find the parent and after a certain amount of time, if the parent could not be found, they could start the adoption process. Maybe there was a certain period of time required to consider Dave abandoned??? When Yela appeared, all that was needed to finalize the process was some signatures. When Robert went after Yela and Dave, he did tell her that, because they were in the adoption process, she couldn't just take Dave without going to the orphanage and "talk about it." I think Robert allowed Yela to take Dave because, as she pointed out, she was not forcing Dave to go with him. Robert's past influenced him in agreeing to let Yela take Dave, IMO. OTOH, Robert told Julieta that he needed to go talk to Carmelo to see what could be done...and that is mainly what confused me since he had told Yela she couldn't just take Dave. Did I confuse you more? :-)

Thank you RGV Chick! You covered everything so very well.

I can't figure out why Robert allowed that mother to take Dave just like that without consulting the social worker or anything like that. After all she ABANDONED the little boy and from what I understand, a parent who abandons a child cannot just take them back without a court hearing. Of course, this is Mexico and maybe things are different. But it seemed similar to the USA when the social worker arrived unannounced to observe their home to see if it was suitable for Dave. The social worker needs to investigate the mother too. You just don't do a change of custody just because the mother came back and wants her son back after she just walked out on him. It would seem that a change of custody back to the mother should be from a court order.

Anyway, I am sure she (Dave's bio mom) is up to no good.

I can't remember if the dinner scene was last night or the night before, but I thought it was so funny when Imelda asked Gabe's sisters if they had boyfriends and implied the "it figures why you don't have a boyfriend" kind of thing. I just laught so much on that one. She sure got her pokes in there.

RGV Chick, I also loved your screenshots! You captured the moments so well. Thank you.

Thanks, Rgv Chick. Great title and recap.

I had expected to be sympathetic toward Dave’s mom. Maybe her life was already a mess before Dave’s injuries and she couldn’t cope out of her own guilt. Boy, was I wrong. Asking Dave if he had something to cover his scars and scoffing at the results of Robert’s work to heal him – incredible.

Diana, I don’t remember the show covering how Dave got burned. But back when Frida had the accident with a pot of boiling water, Robert said most of the kids’ injuries at the foundation were due to kitchen accidents. So I’m wondering if that is what happened to Dave.

Calen can only see a young man that ties a sock on his door

Calen’s scene with Linda and Catalina cracked me up.

Augusto wants Gabriel to have a good, lawful marriage…and would like five grandchildren…so the Mussi name can be carried on.

Augusto is some piece of work. First, he’s set against Dani, but now that he accepts her, he wants to place an order for five grandkids! :> Bravo to how Gabriel handled his pop. I don’t think Augusto is up to anything sinister, he just has a humongous ego and I do think Gabriel got some of his charm from him.

Rgv Chickie, thank you much. No, you did not confuse me more :-)
I will just have to wait to see how it plays out.

Thanks Niecie. Boiling water from a kitchen accident would seem to be the likely culprit.

At first, I thought Dave's mothers tears were real but seeing that very sly look she gave Robert leads me to believe they were crocodile. And I don't care what she is spewing, I completely believe Dave's physical condition must have improved greatly under Robert's tender care.

Auggie daddy does have a huge ego, doesn't he? But the actor has a perpetual twinkle in his eye so I agree there is definitely charm there.

Andy, the big surprise to me was that Dave seemed very uncertain as to what he should/wanted to do. He had been crying for his mother all along and yet when she appeared, he seemed to shrink back a bit. Children are very intuitive.

Thank you, Cynthia and Niecie!

Cynthia, both Imelda and Linda both can be brutally direct, but sometimes that comes in handy, especially in defending their loved ones.

Niecie, I too was impressed with how Gabriel handled his father--firm, yet not condescending. It's always nice to see that the love people have for each other overpowers any ill-feelings.

Diana, "the actor has a perpetual twinkle in his eye so I agree there is definitely charm there." Yes, he does have that twinkle in his eyes; and when he is caring and understanding with Gabriel, he is quite the charmer.

The timing of the whole adoption process seemed odd to me. It was as if the opportunity for Yela to claim her parental rights was running concurrently with the adoption process. Carmelo told Robert and Julieta that the opportunity for Yela to claim her parental rights was coming to a close soon. It also seemed that that deadline was conciding with the adoption to be finalized. Confusing.

Rgv Chick - thank you for the recap!

Great comments here already and I don't have much else to add.

One has to wonder if Augusto might take a chance at dating Imelda. After all, she had the cojones to disapprove of Dani/Gabri marrying. He might line someone who doesn't kiss up to him. Stranger matches have happened. 😉

You’re welcome, Doris!

OMGoodness! Auggie and Imelda...that would be something! Maybe they can be the protags for season 2! HA!!
