Mi marido tiene familia Monday 12/25/17 Capítulo 88: Imelda the Matriarch--OR--Amalia the Eternal Virgin

Yay! Only ONE episode tonight!!!

Dave insists he will keep wearing his suit. It covers him up and stops them from making fun of him. Julieta tells him he can never let anyone make fun out of him. Robert tells him he doesn’t have to take off his suit now if he does not want to. Next, Dave doesn’t want to go to the supper with the family. He wants to stay behind and watch tv. Robert and Julieta do not agree on what to do.

Amalia tells Belén and Hugo Jr. she is leaving the shop to go have supper with Enzo at his place. Belén reminds her to make sure she demands respect. Amalia says after fifty year of demanding respect maybe it is time to lose a little of it or a lot. Hugo Jr. sees Amalia as “daring”. Belén just laughs.

Audifaz thanks Aristóteles and is proud of him for organizing the get together with Polita and her mother. Today he knows that parents should never force their children to do what they want. Aristóteles says he is also proud of him. His new brother will have the best parents on the world.

Linda helps Imelda get ready for the supper and warns her about Gabriel’s sisters. They agree that the Mussi sisters should be paid back in kind if they start anything. Imelda knows exactly how to put them in their place if they make Dani feel bad. Frida arrives to tell them that Gabriel's family is about to arrive.

The Mussi’s arrive and as they walk to the apartment inside the building they have plenty of obnoxious comments about where the Córcega’s live. The sisters talk about how low class the Córcega’s are and Augusto is just afraid that the building is going to fall on them. He wants them to just eat fast and get out ASAP. They need to be kind for the well-being of their brother. Clarissa makes the point that there is a big difference between not driving Gabriel away and making friends with the common people.

Julieta and Robert discuss the Dave issue. Julieta sees Dave as manipulating Robert but Robert does not see a problem in not forcing him to go. Julieta sees socialization as a means for Dave to get comfortable with himself. Robert sees it as being too soon to force Dave since he is just getting used to his new life with them. They then discuss who is going to stay back with him. Robert will get Dave to sleep and come later. Julieta sees this as a sign that Robert is going to be a pushover with Dave. Robert's facial expression shows that he is surprised by her frankness.

The Mussi's have arrived and are wide eyed looking all over the Córcega apartment until Imelda asks if they have lost a fly. Gabriel makes an excuse for his sisters saying they are very observant. Gabriel introduces everyone. Imelda is introduced as the matriarch of the family. Augusto says they could have had the supper at the Mussi home and they would have been much more comfortable. Imelda asks if he has a problem with their apartment. All that Augusto can say is that the Córcega home is “picturesque.” Imelda says although the home may be small it fulfills their needs. Drinks? Augusto is having the mezcal and the sisters water with four drops of lemon juice due to their diet. Gabriel and Daniela go to get the drinks for everyone. Imelda tells Augusto he has a charming son. Augusto says he got it from his father. They all politely laugh. Clarissa says that Daniela is very fortunate to have Gabriel. Eugenio adds that Gabriel is also very fortunate to have her. Imelda agrees.

Bruno comes home. Julieta was trying to call him. They tell him about their “Dave “predicament and he agrees to stay behind with Dave. No, Julieta will not be paying him. He is happy to help out and get to know Dave better.

Daniela does not know why Gabriel had to have this supper. He insists that the families have to get to know each other. Daniela just wants it all over quickly. Blanca comes into the kitchen and says that she finds the Córcega’s strange like they are planning something.

Eugenio is keeping up the conversation with the Mussi’s. He says that only Juan Pablo and Julieta are missing. Imelda mentions that she does have another son who was not invited. Hearing that, Clarissa and Cassandra refer to the Corcega’s as being medium low class. Linda hears the slight and asks them to repeat it. Augusto tells his daughters to please behave. The sisters say that their sense of humor is just different like their social class, rather limited. Both Marisol and Frida are shocked with that comment. Bother Imelda and Eugenio are peeved. Augusto says that his daughters are a little strange some times. Finally Gabriel and Daniela come in with the drinks.

Bruno and Dave have a good talk. Dave will call him “Uncle Bruno”. He explains to Dave that soon he will able to call Julieta and Robert “mom and dad “ since they are in the process of adopting him. Dave is happy.

Enzo and Amalia are enjoying food, drink and dance at his place. Soon they are all over each other.

A the Córcega’s, supper continues with lots of delicious food and more contentious talk. Augusto mentions that Julieta was Gabriel’s teacher. Julieta says yes, she was and it would have been really good if she could have also taught his daughters to have educated them better than they are. Clarissa finds it surprising that a woman like Julieta would have ended up "here." Linda asks them to clarify what they meant by that comment. Augusto makes nice and tries to get his daughters to not fight. Robert introduces himself. Augusto sees his profession as being admirable. When Julieta refers to Blanca as her “mamá suegra”, the sisters have more comments to make. Jukieta says that is how she refers to her mother-in-law and asks if they have a problem. Blanca asks how they liked the food. The best that Augusto can come up with is that it is first class Oaxacn cuisine. He would give it three stars and five “pieces of cutlery”. The Córcega’s do not understand what that means. Gabriel finally takes over to make his announcement. Eugenio gets bent out of shape over Gabriel calling Daniela “oso” as he is making his “announcement.” Eugenio is ready to cut his hair one more time. Right as Gabriel is starting his “announcement” again, Audifaz and family arrive. Blanca wants Gabriel to be able to finish. Gabriel is there to ask for Daniela’s hand in marriage. Imelda disagrees.

Amalia and Enzo end up in his bedroom but they have a mishap when she falls on top of him and breaks the bed.

Imelda goes on to tell off the Mussi. Robert and Julieta try to quiet her down but she will be heard. She tells the truth about how Gabriel’s family has acted. She has seen the looks, behavior and the criticisms of Gabriel’s sisters and his father. Augusto says that his behavior measured up. Imelda accuses him of just pretending. Imelda thinks that Gabriel is just lovely but his family does not deserve someone as good as Daniela in their family.

Dave cannot sleep with Hugo’s snoring and ends up in Julieta’s and Robert’s bed.

Imelda goes on saying that people like the Mussi’s never are able to see beyond appearances. Finally, Augusto gets up and admits that they did not always treat Daniela well but that is the reason they have come. They are sorry. Cassandra adds that they are just “super different” but they are a lovely family. Clarissa adds it is just that they are from different zip codes. Gabriel tells them to just cut it so they don’t start something again. Augusto talks about Daniel, no, Daniel”A” being an extraordinary woman and how she and Gabriel really love each other. Imelda makes it clear that as long as she is alive she will be fierce in defending her family. Eugenio gets up and says he is also there to defend his daughters who are honorable, hard-working and of good will. That is how he wants to see them valued. Blanca cuts him off and says that if Gabriel and Daniela are going to join their lives it is important that they respect each other and that they be happy. Gabriel breathes a sigh of relief.

Enzo tells Amalia the bed is just old. She gets a phone call from Belén who thinks she has food poisoning. She is in pain. Destiny is interrupting them again. Amalia has to see see about Belén and leaves.

Later, Gabriel asks Julieta and Robert to be their godparents for the wedding. They accept.Eugenio pops up to talk to Gabriel. Eugenio is having a hard time letting Daniela go. Gabriel will take care of her 24/7. Eugenio has always feared the day when some guy would come by and take a daughter away from him. He asks Gabriel to make her happy.

Linda thinks it is just wonderful what is happening with Daniela but what is going to happen to her? Marisol says maybe she has given too much importance to seeking attention from guys and that can end up with a feeling of horrible emptiness. Linda does not know what she is doing wrong. Marisol brings up Linda making Bruno a priority and going along with “conditions” in order to be with him. What is Linda doing for herself? She has to be her own priority, her only priority.

Belén talks to Amalia. It turns out that Belén is afraid of being abandoned by Amalia. She is so afraid of losing her. Amalia says she will always always always, etc. Take care of her. She would never do what Belén did to her when her ex arrived. Bekén needs her to forgive her. Of course, Amalia forgives her.

Robert and Julieta find Dave in their bed. Julieta guesses it was Bruno and his snoring. They decide he can stay for the night. Julieta says he just need to feel protected.

The next day, Dave appears without his ”super hero” uniform Ready to go to school. He wants to be brave like Robert told him to be. Robert tells him that he already was brave and that little by little he will feel better by not hiding himself.

It is all set up for Dave to ride the bus with Frida. Dave says “goodbye, mamá and papá” and there is not a dry eye at the bus stop.

Julieta and Robert talk about how cruel children can be. Robert tells Julieta that no other surgery will help Dave. He will always have his scars. They need to treat Dave like any other child: without pity. By pitying him they would only be hurting him. They talk about doing the best that they can as parents and that they are just learning. Julieta and Robert are going to make a good team eventhough Robert admits he will be sort of the permissive one.

At school, the same brats take a photo of Dave’s face and say he looks like a doll. A couple of other kids ask him why his skin is like it is. He explains that he has his scars and that they no longer hurt. One of the brats comes up to Dave to tell him that he knew Dave looked like he was melted. They then want to harass him by seeing who in their little group will dare to touch Dave. The bell rings and they go to their seats. One of the brats tells another it is better to not touch Dave so they don’t catch anything.

Blanca goes to get the car keys from Eugenio. Eugenio is all upset over Blanca driving again. She does not care and is soon driving off to class humming and speaking English to herself as she goes.

Xavi’s fans have gathered to see him. He is then interviewed for a local tv show. The interviewer asks if he and Marisol are novios. Yes, they are and he did once upon a time kiss another fan. He remembers the kiss with Marisol.Back then it was uncomfortable for him. The interviewer warns his fans there will be no kisses for anyone because Xavi now has a novia. Marisol’s ex Ignacio is in the crowd of fans.

Catalina is complaining to Hugo Jr. about being by herself all day. The doorbell rings. Linda has arrived at Catalin’s House with her “bad vibes” according to Catalina. Hugo leaves for work telling Catalina that she was complaining about having no company . . . Linda is there to take Catalina to her psychic.

Gabriel has great ideas for the carpentry business. Daniela has a surprise for Gabriel. She made him a desk. It is the piece of furniture she promised him. He is overwhelmed. It comes with a ribbon and all sorts of treasures in the drawers. She loves him and wants to love him for the rest of his life. He thanks her. He is an “oso dichoso” (happy bear). They kiss.

At work, Catalina confronts Julieta about Linda taking her to her psychic. Linda says she is just fulfilling what Julieta told her to do. Julieta gives Catalina the good news about the adoption and Dave. Catalina could see it coming with what her psychic told her. She also adds that the psychic mentioned that the child would bring many tears and suffering. Julieta does not believe in such things.

Robert is at work on the phone trying to schedule his adoptive parents’ trip to visit him when Dave’s mom appears. She is ready to talk about Dave.

So nice

to be back to single episodes.
that Blanca gave Daniela and Gabriel such good advice.
Marisol gave Linda some sound advice.

Back later . . .

I am so thankful for your wonderful comments, Jarifa! Last night for the first time on our vacation we had a hotel without Univision. This way I can keep up, though it feels as if I missed an excellent, unchopped episode. SpanProf

Jarifa, you did masterful justice to this pivotal episode. Sweet, savvy and smart.

Julieta sees this as a sign that Robert is going to be a pushover with Dave. Robert's facial expression shows that he is surprised by her frankness. I was surprised but pleased to see this realistic difference of opinion. I agree with Robert in that it is just too soon to force Dave to interact with others. He has had mere minutes to adjust to life with his new parents.

From the thoughtful to the thoughtless: “The sisters say that their sense of humor is just different like their social class, rather limited”. What can you say? My favorite moment was Linda AND Marisol making the mocking sour faces in rebuttal to the silly sister’s words. Go girls!

Dani's family banded together to fight prejudice and snobbery. Imelda's sharp tongue let nothing lie.

Amalia and Enzo are Not comic relief. There is nothing funny – either let them have a real romance that doesn’t poke fun or let it lie. Blech.

I loved Dani's gift to Gabi and his delight and happiness with her, I hope it is smooth sailing ahead.

I felt ill at seeing Dave's mother. Between the other children's taunting and his mother's reappearance, how much more will this sweet child be forced to endure??

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

Jarifa, this was marvelous. Thank you!

Diana

Thanks, Diana. I, like you, was “pleased to see this realistic difference of opinion.” This novela has a knack for making even dealing with the “small stuff” interesting and, in this case, true to life.

Diana: I enjoyed watching Dani's family banding together & putting the Buji Mussi family in their place!

However, we know the Buji Mussi family always have a backup plan in upping the ante. Especially Daddy Mussi.

Jarifa: How was your Christmas ?

Steve, it was great. How was yours?
Yes, the Mussi’s were put in their place . . . for now . . .

Jarifa: Celebrated Christmas in Paranaque, Philippines with my wife & our 3 boys visiting with my older sister & her family.

Also visited the In-laws (The Dela Cruz's: my wife's family).

Jarifa, great recap and your insight is noteworthy. Thank you!! I ditto your "so nice" statements." And only one episode was a very nice surprise!

Diana, "I was surprised but pleased to see this realistic difference of opinion. I agree with Robert in that it is just too soon to force Dave to interact with others. He has had mere minutes to adjust to life with his new parents." Very insightful and well stated!

I especially liked watching Laura V and her expressions at the different situations...such a talented actress.

Diana, "Amalia and Enzo are Not comic relief. There is nothing funny – either let them have a real romance that doesn’t poke fun or let it lie. Blech." I am in total agreement!

Though the Mussis were rightfully put in their place, I do have to give Augusto credit for putting his vanity and need for control aside in order to keep his son in his life.

Thanks, Jarifa. Yay, I'm so glad the cutting is over.

Imelda knows exactly how to put them in their place if they make Dani feel bad.

That awkward dinner of the two families was so realistic. Imelda, you go girl, give it to ‘em straight! Rgv Chick, I give Augusto credit too. And at least he tried to be polite [Daniel, oops Daniela].

But those two sisters are simply tone deaf when it comes to people of a “lower” social class -- insulting people right IN THEIR OWN HOME. They are nuts. I was surprised Eugenio stayed as calm as he did, but I think in the end how Gabriel treats Dani is his focus and he could care less about the rest of the family.

So Xavi remembers a fan (Marisol, unbeknownst to him) kissing him at a public appearance and his feeling uncomfortable about it. I couldn’t tell what Marisol was feeling hearing Xavi recall that incident. Is she worried that some of his fans will hit on him? [Yes, they will.] Or does she simply feel foolish for overstepping in the past?

I had a lump in my throat when Dave walked in that classroom without his burn suit. Will some kids please befriend him for real? I remember bullies, but also some good kids, who hopefully won't fall for that “don't touch him, you might catch something.”

Normally I can get with slapstick humor, but Diana and Rgv Chick, ITA Amalia and Enzo's shtick is just not funny.

What was fun: Blanca paying Eugenio no mind as she took off in the car, with him standing there yelling “clutch, clutch, clutch!!!”

Merry Christmas, all! Jarifa, muchas gracias for gifting us with a recap amidst your celebration.

Jarifa, thank you very much, this recap was a great Christmas present!

I very much enjoyed this "chapter".

Augusto makes nice and tries to get his daughters to not fight.

Am I being taken in by Daddy Musi? I agree with Rgv Chickie that he deserves some "credit for putting his vanity and need for control aside in order to keep his son in his life." He wasn't totally comfortable, and he might prefer that Gaby had found someone else more "suitable", but he is dealing with it as best he can. I think. We'll see.

I see what they are doing with Enzo and Amalia, but the next time should be them in bed and a clearly exhausted Enzo saying "Amalia, please, you can't make up for the last 30 years in one night!"

I think Xavi put his foot in his mouth, not once, but twice. Marisol did not look a happy camper.

Jarifa - Thank you for your recap!

Great comments here already.

"Julieta and Robert discuss the Dave issue. " Ah, yes, the challenge of co-parenting and differing opinions and points of view. So very realistic! Brings back memories of raising our offspring.

I saw nothing funny about the implied fact that Amalia's weight broke the bed, but classic telenovela coitus interruptus nonetheless. And what was with Belen calling Amalia, in deathly pain? Really?? I thought she had eaten rat poison, but no,,, just an acute attack of co-dependency. Sheesh! Well, after the separation anxiety/jealousy that Amalia had when Belen's ex showed up, they're even now. All square. Even steven. Payback bites.

For once, I cheered Imelda when she gave Augusto & Co. a piece of her mind. And, yeah, Audifaz came on a bit strong to the dinner guests. lol

The scene with Dave calling Juli "mom" and Rob "papa" almost had me in tears, it was so touching and sweet. When did I turn into such a softy? LOL

The return of Dave's bio-mom does not bode well. I hope this is not a red herring.

Blanca just driving off, leaving Eugenio steaming and fuming, was awesooooome. She is staying the course. Yay!

Andy: Daddy Mussi is likely go the Daddy Peralta route soon.

I thought that the Córcega family might have been a little harsh with Daddy Musi, unless I'm being completely fooled by him. He seemed to me to be trying hard. Not so with his daughters, who were quite offensive. That's OK too. They are spoiled brats (even Daddy calls them his "consentidas"), but even they are coming around. I can't remember which is which, but the shorter one is always coming up against the fact that she has no novio and has to think about it.

Julieta is certainly no "yes woman" and she will keep Rob/JP on his toes :-)

Blanca has blossomed quite a bit and still driving. I was a little disappointed in Eugenio, he could have been nicer to Blanca. After being scared to death that he would lose her, he has almost reverted to his old bad ways. It's easy to do, whereas making a long term change is hard, but he could at least use a term of affection, call her "mi amor" or whatever, once in a while. But not "Opa" or "Oso", they're taken.

Speaking of Oso, I'm happy he has been promoted from Vani oso to Oso dichoso :-)

Yay! Only ONE episode tonight!!!

Jarifa, it just occurred to me: this was LooneyVision's Christmas gift to us!

In other words, let's not get too used to it :-(

Thank you, Jarifa.

"Julieta sees this as a sign that Robert is going to be a pushover with Dave." I would say Julieta is not far behind. When they found Dave sleeping in their bed, and Robert suggested they let him stay "one more night," Julieta agreed sooner than Robert was able to finish the sentence.

It was nice for Bruno to recommend to Dave to call Julieta and Robert mamá and papá. It certainly hit the bull's-eye in their hearts. Saying it for the first time to Julieta, back then, tilted her to adopt him. This second time felt so good to her, confirmation that her love and care is accepted and returned.

Thanks Jarifa!!!

Daddy Augie was indeed trying and the sisters too, in their limited way.

Dani and Gabi looked happy at the end so that's all that counts. Is Gabi back in his apartment?

Thank you, everyone for finding the time to stop by the patio during this busy time of year.

ITA RgvChick, Niecie, and Andy that Augusto did try to do what was necessary to support Gabriel.

doris, “acute attack of codependency” said it all. Perfect!

Lucio, that first “Mamá” sure melted Julieta’s heart and, as you so rightly pointed out, was the impetus for Julieta and Robert taking action on the adoption.

Carvivlie, I don’t know if Gabriel is back in his apartment but I would hope that Augusto would have reinstalled him in his own place.,

Jarifa: Don't count out Daddy Mussi upping the ante against Dani yet because he's going to be plotting & scheming.
