Mi Marido Tiene Familia #91, 12/28/2017: From the Depths of a Mother’s Heart

[Previously: Julieta worries that Dave’s mother might sell or hurt him to get money; she would never forgive herself if something happened to Dave. Robert asks Julieta to calm down, but Julieta refuses to do so—she is not going to just cross her arms; she will not have a moment of peace knowing that he is in the hands of a woman who doesn’t want him. If she has to send his mother to jail, she will do it.]

At Paraíso Oaxaqueño (the same two-bit, rat-infested motel where Gabriel stayed), Dave wonders if he will be able to go see Robert and Julieta. Yela remarks, “It they want, they can do something.” When Dave asks her if she loves him, Yela replies that it’s not that she doesn’t love him; life has been very hard on her. Dave’s father left her and she had to care for Dave by herself. Dave asks if his father was bad, but Yela doesn’t even want Dave to talk about him; his father didn’t even show up when their house burned down. After Dave reproaches that she left him because he was burned, Yela prefers to watch her TV program.

At Julieta’s, Julieta insists that Dave is just a child; they have to fight for him. Robert thinks that they need to think things through. He wonders what will happen to Dave if they send Yela to jail and keep Dave. Julieta reminds him that they have already agreed that selling a child is a crime. Robert understands, but points out that Dave went with her voluntarily; Yela is his mother. He then asks Julieta to put herself in Dave’s shoes—what would she think if her adoptive parents sent her mother to jail? Julieta retorts that it’s what’s best for Dave; Yela is not thinking of her son. Yela just wants to take advantage of Dave and the situation. Robert argues that Dave will not see it like that and wonders what would happen if they do send Yela to jail. Julieta quickly responds that Dave will come back to live with them. Robert thinks that Dave will want to continue looking for his mother. Robert also wants what is best for Dave; and he wants them to be a family.

At the motel, Yela looks at the want ads for a job as Dave asks her to help him take a bath, but Yela thinks he is too old to need help. When Dave adds that Robert would help him because of his burns…then Robert would put some creams on him, Yela gets annoyed and asks Dave where he expects her to get the creams. She adds that the doctor is not at all good; supposedly Dave should have already healed. Yela prefers that Dave help her find a job for him and for her. Dave doesn’t think he should work and wonders about school since Robert and Julieta told him school is very important. Yela explains that they have no food so they have to work; they just need to put something on his face. When Dave asks why, Yela tells him that those crusts look horrible; she pauses as she rethinks it, then adds that maybe his scars might help them.

At the carpentry shop, Gabriel concludes a Mussi spiritual massage that will help Dani. Dani tells him not to change the subject. She questions how he expects them to marry within days; it’s too quick. Gabriel explains that since both families have accepted their relationship, the sooner they get married, the better…before they change their minds. Dani thinks that learning how to be his girlfriend is one thing, but being his wife is totally different…and so is living together. When Gabriel asks if she thinks they won’t get through it, Dani explains that everything is going too fast; it scares her. Gabriel pushes on a pressure point on her foot, so Dani yells out and hits him. Gabriel then asks her when she thinks they should get married, so Dani suggests…two years? Gabriel snickers and wonders if maybe they should just wait for the next solar eclipse. When Gabriel suggests they marry in one month, Dani becomes quite uneasy, so Gabriel suggests they set up a challenge. If she wins they will marry in two years, but if he wins they will marry in one month.

In his apartment, Xavi hears someone knocking and hopes it’s Mari, but it’s Imelda who wants to talk to him. She comments that Blanca may allow him to live here because of her new ideas regarding cohabiting, but Imelda is there to look out for her granddaughter and great-granddaughter. When Imelda tells him that she heard about the scandal, Xavi clarifies that Icknacio was the one that initiated it, but Imelda doesn’t want Mari to have man problems again because the ones that will be affected are Frida and Mari. She points out that since Xavi is an artist, he has the luxury of being able to have scandals, but wonders where that’s going to leave Mari and Frida. When Xavi assures Imelda that he can distinguish the personal from the professional, Imelda reminds him that Mari and Frida are not used to a life of fame and everything that goes with it. Imelda then asks Xavi to distance himself from them. Xavi shakes his head and argues that he is not Icknacio. Imelda thinks that when the fame gets to his head, things will be different; and Frida is an innocent child who doesn’t deserve to be tarnished. Imelda wants him to think about it. She may be old, but it is clear to her that without Mari, he would not have moved forward. Xavi thinks he deserves respect. When he starts to say that he has shown he cares…Imelda interrupts and appreciates what he has done, but, still, she doesn’t think it’s suitable that he live there. Her family doesn’t deserve to be involved in a scandal. When Xavi asks if she is throwing him out, Imelda justifies that a roof apartment is not a place for a famous artist. When she wonders if he thinks that it is right for Mari and Frida to go visit him there, Xavi sighs. Imelda continues that he needs his own space; and they need theirs. When she pleads with him to look for another place to live, Xavi nods, but is perturbed.

At the school, Bruno walks up to Aris and tells him that he already read the manuscript. When Bruno asks who wrote it, Aris wonders if he didn’t like it, but Bruno tells him he loved it…it was very good. Aris admits that it was his father and suggests that if Bruno tells Audi that he liked it, Audi might be convinced to publish it.

Imelda goes to visit Audi and tells him she was up on the roof…there are so many problems. When Audi asks her in and tells her he was writing, Imelda comments that Polita has mentioned that he spends much of his day writing and remembers that his dream was to be a writer. Audi is reminded that, as a child, Imelda would always tell him that no one made a living by writing. When Imelda regrets not having supported him in his talent. Audi wonders why Imelda would say that now, so Imelda explains that Aris is very proud of him…and she is too. She then asks him a favor—not to let her die without having read his first book. Audi smiles in wonderment and kisses Imelda’s hand.

In the carpentry shop, Gabriel kisses Dani’s bandaged foot. Dani tells him they can’t decide on a wedding date based on a challenge, they have to prepare so many things. Gabriel points out that he has many helpers; so all they need to do is decide on a church and a date. As Gabriel puts her shoe back on, Dani assures him that her family will want a church wedding, but a wedding organized by his family will not be the same as a wedding organized by her family—her parents will want something very traditional while the Mussis will want something sophisticated. Gabriel thinks that instead of worrying what the families want, they do the planning themselves since it is their wedding. Dani gets pensive and shares that when she was a child, she saw a bride coming out of the St. Domingo Church. The bride looked so happy that Dani dreamed of feeling the same way, but as the years passed, she gave up on that dream and convinced herself that she didn’t deserve to be happy. Gabriel declares that his duty will be to prove that she deserves all the happiness in the world…because he loves her…insanely; though she is probably going to be a terribly cantankerous old woman who will be hitting him all the time. After Dani growls and pulls his ear, Gabriel gets serious and tells her they shouldn’t waste time, they need to decide on a wedding date…and they can play rock-paper-scissors to make the determination.

In his apartment, Xavi expresses to Mari that the last thing he wants to do is hurt her or Frida…Imelda went to see him and asked him to leave. Mari can’t believe that Imelda dared to do that. Xavi continues that is was very difficult for him to admit, but deep down, he thinks Imelda made some sense. Mari sits beside him and confesses that there have been things that have been happening that she doesn’t like. Being his manager and his girlfriend at the same time is becoming difficult for her. She didn’t want to cause him any problems because of the situation with Icknacio. Though she is working as his manager, it is affecting his career. As his girlfriend, there are things that are hurting her. Xavi stands and looks at her questioningly and asks what is going on.

Mari can’t help but be jealous of his fans; it’s silly, but it’s what she feels. She continues that in his interview, he stated that he didn’t like the kiss a fan have given at all…and that fan…was her.

In the carpentry shop, Dani thinks Gabriel is crazy to base such an important decision on a rock-paper-scissors game, but Gabriel thinks it’s easy and direct…just like life should be. They will have one opportunity and the winner will decide on the wedding date. Dani relents; so they have their game which takes three tries before Gabriel is the winner…they will marry in a month!

Dani looks quite nervous; she is afraid and wonders how they will make all the preparations. All Gabriel knows is that he has one month to fulfill her dream; she will be like the bride she saw. He asks her not to be afraid. The one that she has awaited has arrived…her man has arrived. Gabriel is elated so he picks her up and swirls her around the room. When he puts her down, they look into each other’s eyes and kiss tenderly.

In Xavi’s apartment, Xavi apologizes; he had no idea it was her...it was so many years ago. When he wonders how she can be so affected with something that happened so long ago, Mari explains that it was something that was very important to her…she kissed him and he saw it as nothing. Xavi admits that is how it was for him; the kiss was not important. When that happened, he had no idea who she was…she was just a fan. When he tells her she should be more professional, Mari retorts that is why she is sharing what is bothering her. She then wonders if he has ever considered that he was in a rut because he lacks talent! Xavi is taken aback and had no idea she thought of him that way. Mari remarks that she, too, can be objective. Mari tries to leave, but Xavi stops her and tells her that if she can’t deal with being his manager and his girlfriend, it’s because she fell in love with Xavi Galán—the one that couldn’t get ahead; she fell in love with a failure. Mari cries as she tells him that she has a daughter that she needs to take care of; so she needs the manager job to get ahead and to help him with his career. After she tells him that for Frida’s, Xavi’s and her own good, they cannot continue as a couple, Mari runs out.

In the carpentry shop, Dani jests that they can tell their grandchildren that they decided on a wedding date based on a game of rock-paper-scissors. Gabriel thinks they should—it is the most original idea in the world. What Gabriel likes best is that Dani is already thinking of grandchildren. After assuring that Dani wants to marry him in a church, Gabriel tells her they need to decide on a date…and it can’t take a year because that is too long. Dani admits that she really doesn’t want to wait a whole year either, so when she suggests two months, they both agree and seal it with a kiss.

Mari is back at Xavi’s apartment as Xavi tells her that they can’t end like this, especially when they can make things right. Mari thinks they can’t fix things right now; Frida is very confused and so is her family. Xavi reminds her that they have made many plans; he can talk to the media, with Frida and her family…and even with Icknacio, if necessary. Mari shares that those are not the only problem—it’s her too. She doesn’t know if she can live with the fame and their relationship. Xavi assures her they can and asks that she forgive him for saying she was not professional. Mari thinks he wasn’t mistaken; it’s best that she concentrate on her job. They have to face it, he will be famous; things are working out for Xavi. When Xavi asks if she isn’t going to change her mind, he adds that he will not be able to see her as just his manager. Mari then thinks she should quit the job, but Xavi reminds her that she has worked too hard for this and she was the only one that didn’t turn her back on him…he couldn’t stand not seeing her. Xavi tries to kiss her, but Mari stops him and walks out.

In Julieta’s apartment, Julieta tells Robert she doesn’t agree with his idea. Robert argues once again that they cannot take Dave’s right to want to be with his mother from him. He wants Dave to have the best life; and they can make sure that Yela has everything so Dave will be okay. Julieta thinks the world can’t be fixed with just talking. Robert agrees, but thinks he can talk Yela into being reasonable. If he can’t do it, then they will do it Julieta’s way. After he asks her to trust him, Julieta concedes, but wants them to act quickly; she is afraid.

At the school, Bruno conducts one of his workshops. After Briana places the robot on the white line, Dorian, the blonde bully, makes a rude remark about Briana and calls her dumb; so Bruno brings it to his attention. When Dorian refuses to apologize, Bruno takes him to the office (Yay, Bruno!).

Blanca goes in to Mari’s bedroom to talk to Mari since she saw her crying. Mari confides that she broke up with Xavi. Blanca comments that life has not been easy for Mari and wonders why she did it…she concludes it was a mother’s sacrifice. Mari cries that she thought she was going to have a second chance, but it hurts to know that life is showing her that is not the path for her. Blanca emphasizes that she is doing it for Frida so it should make her proud. When Mari wonders why life has to be so complicated, Blanca comments that is how life is—a constant struggle. After Mari asks Blanca if she knew that Imelda had asked Xavi to leave, Blanca remains quiet.

At Xavi’s , Robert wonders if Xavi will be able to be close to Mari and just see her as a manager because Robert can’t imagine being close to Julieta and just seeing her as a friend. When Xavi points out that Robert probably wouldn’t be able to be without seeing Julieta, Robert agrees and thinks Xavi has a serious dilemma. Xavi is sure that he loves Mari, but she is the one that wants to end things. If Mari chooses to be only his manager, he has to accept it. Robert tells Xavi that he should understand Mari…what she is going through is not easy. Robert then suggests that Xavi and he go talk to Icknacio to clear things up, but Xavi refuses; he doesn’t want to cause more problems for Mari and Frida. Xavi thinks Icknacio may accuse him of being violent. Robert remarks that there is only one thing left to do—Xavi needs to decide what he prefers…his career or the love he has for Mari.

As Blanca holds Mari, Blanca tells her that if Xavi stays there, Mari will just be more confused. Mari wonders if she is doing the wrong thing, but Blanca thinks it’s her decision; she just wants Mari to be happy. What Blanca does know is that Xavi brought out the best in Mari. She asks Mari what she thinks would be best for Frida…to be with Xavi and live her life amidst interviews, or live peacefully. The life of an artist is not like theirs.

At the school, Bruno tells Diana that he gave Dorian an opportunity to apologize, but he refused. Dorian insists that he was not lying—Briana is not smart. Diana points out that this is not the first time Dorian has been accused of bothering his classmates. Diana will call Dorian’s parents and suspend him for three days. If there is another incident, he will be expelled for bullying. After Bruno goes back to his workshop, he sees Linda who has written “I love you” on the chalkboard. When he asks what she is doing there, Linda replies that she wanted to see the best teacher and asks if she can stay. Bruno agrees after the children chant that she stay.

At Ana’s, Imelda goes to visit because she didn’t want to have regrets about not going to see Ana, especially now that she is completely alone. Ana shares that the divorce is moving along and she is slowly getting off the anti-depressants; she is recovering. When Ana mentions all the times they spent together shopping, Imelda comments that she never knew Ana was only doing it out of guilt. Ana wishes she could turn back time and not do what she did to Juan Pablo, but Imelda responds that time cannot be turned back. When Imelda suggests that Ana should concentrate on what she will do, Ana shares that she would like to take control of her mind and emotions, but she will not be at peace until she has Blanca’s forgiveness. Meanwhile, Blanca is in her English practicing her English phrases…even with Ezra!

At Sam’s apartment, Sam doesn’t know why Gabriel has to give his name to Dani when he and Dani can just go off to the beach and enjoy nature. Gabriel thinks she is going to the opposite extreme (from the families’ opinions). He has already decided to marry Dani and that is what he is going to do. Gabriel’s concern is how they will plan the wedding and satisfy the two families, so Sam suggests they marry in secret, but Gabriel feels the need to have a big wedding…that everyone attend. What he wants to avoid is that the family get too involved.

In his apartment, Xavi goes through a collection of notes and letters he had received from fans. He comes across a letter Mari had written him wherein she tells him that he encouraged her to follow her dreams. He smiles as he reads that she loves him and hopes that someday he will love her.

At Paraíso Oaxaqueño, Yela tells Dave that she will stand him at a corner to see how much money they can get, but Dave cries that he doesn’t want to do that. She insists that they have no option, then tells him he will stay there until she returns. Dave panics and cries asking her not to leave him alone, but Yela yells in frustration and asks why he is having a tantrum. Dave yells that the last time she left him alone he got burned. Dave recalls being wheeled into the hospital, Robert caring for him, and his mother yelling out that she left him alone. Yela gets a bout of guilt and goes to hug Dave as she cries. She doesn’t know what to do; she can’t handle this on her own.

Frida goes up to Xavi’s apartment and asks if he, too, will leave them. Xavi assures her that he will only move elsewhere and promises that they will continue seeing each other. Frida cries that when her father left, he promised the same thing and he didn’t keep his promise. Xavi tells her that he wouldn’t be able to distance himself from her, but Frida continues that being here on the roof, she could come visit him and have her lessons. If he moves elsewhere, she won’t be able to do that. Xavi insists that he has to leave, but they will continue to see each other; he loves her as a daughter. When Frida pleads that he not leave, Xavi gives her his guitar that is like his own life. He tells her that she can keep it and he will come see and practice with her. Frida continues to cry as she hugs him telling him she will miss him and pleading that he not leave.

At the motel, Dave tells his mother that he is drawing…Julieta taught him how to draw and told him they would go to the beach one day. Just then, Robert knocks on the door. After Yela answers and Dave follows and is excited about seeing Robert, Yela holds Dave back. Yela wonders if Robert is there to discuss the offer she made Julieta. Robert affirms that he wants to discuss that and some other things, but wants them to do it in private. Before Robert goes to talk to Yela in the hallway, he gives Dave a hug and tells him he loves him.

At Belén’s store, Hugo gives Belén a cookie that she enjoys very much. Diana arrives so he gives her a cookie too. Diana likes the cookie very much and wonders where Hugo got it. After Hugo tells her he made it, he adds that he wants her to be proud of him…he knows what he has to do now.

At the motel, Robert tells Yela that he has brought Dave some of his things—clothes, creams, toys, medicines…and Baxter. Yela wants to know what she is supposed to do with all of that; what she needs is money. When Robert assures Yela that all he and Julieta want is what’s best for Dave and asks her not to hurt him anymore, Yela retorts that Dave is already hurt…he is burned. Robert thinks she is mistaken. Dave is much better and Robert will make sure he continues to get better. After Robert mentions that, with them, Dave will have everything he needs, Yela wonders if Robert is trying to buy Dave, but Robert clarifies that he isn’t; he is only wanting to take care of the child he wants as a son. Yela asks why Robert is doing this, so he explains that he was an abandoned child too; and he doesn’t want Dave to grow up with resentments and fears. She needs to understand that they will always consider her Dave’s mother. Yela thinks it would just be best if they bought Dave from her. Robert points out that what she is asking is a crime; and if she hurts Dave in any way, they will not rest until she receives a punishment. Robert adds that he and Julieta love Dave with all their hearts. Yela cries that she doesn’t want to hurt Dave, but she is desperate. She thought that when her son would return, he would be better. Robert emphasizes that they can give Dave a good life with all the attention and care that he needs and asks that she think of him. Yela cries that she can’t take care of Dave on her own; she didn’t know what she had to do or that it would be so difficult. When Robert suggests that they find a solution together, Yela remarks that she only wants what’s best for her son.

Frida cries as she runs into Mari’s bedroom and asks her not to let Xavi leave. Mari assures her that Xavi will be out of the building, but not out of their lives. Mari will continue working with him and Frida can continue helping with his choreography. Frida insists that Mari not allow him to leave; she loves him like a second father. When Frida thinks cries that it’s her fault he is leaving, Mari assures her she has no fault in this as Blanca observes from the hallway. After Mari assures Frida she will keep seeing Xavi, Mari hugs Frida; and Blanca comes in to join them in their hug.

At the motel, Yela asks Dave to forgive her for leaving him…and for what she is about to do. When Dave wonders what she means, Yela asks if he loves Robert and Julieta. After Robert assures Dave that everything is well and he should say what he feels, Dave admits that he does love them. Yela knows that they love Dave too; and they will take better care of him than she can. Dave wonders if his mother is going to leave him again, but Yela assures him that Robert and Julieta guaranteed her that she could see him whenever she wants. Robert confirms what Yela stated and asks Dave if he would like to live with them.

In their bedroom Mari cries on Dani’s shoulder and tells her she ended things with Xavi, but she can’t control what’s happening with Frida. She made this decision thinking of Frida, but now thinks she is causing her more harm. Dani wonders what sort of sacrifice Mari is making by leaving Xavi if Frida tells Mari that she loves Xavi like a father. Mari points out that Xavi’s life will be different from hers and Frida’s lives; she wants Frida to have a normal, tranquil life. Dani thinks Mari is confusing things and suggests that Mari think it through.

At Night—

Eugenio clamors as he and Blanca are in bed—his shoulder and arm are hurting. When he apologizes for bothering Blanca, she assures him he isn’t and offers to give him a massage with the ointment Robert gave them. Blanca jests that after kneading so much bread, she is a great masseuse. He agrees, so she proceeds to massage his shoulder.

At Julieta’s, Bruno encourages Julieta to eat, but she is worried because Robert is taking too long and won’t answer his phone. When Bruno suggests Julieta trust Robert, Julieta assures him she does, but she fears that things won’t work out as Robert wants. Bruno tries to be supportive so he reminds Julieta that he loves her very much and will be there for her in whatever she needs. Julieta then wonders if Yela will sell Dave to someone else. She can’t stand it anymore, so she goes to call the police. Meanwhile, Robert enters quietly with Dave following behind him. As Julieta is about to talk to someone, she turns around when she hears Robert call out to her. She then sees Dave as Robert tells her that he brought her their son. Julieta quickly goes to Dave and embraces him with much love and relief…

They did it again. They made out Yela to be this evil, heartless witch just to have her make a 180 and leave me with my mouth open...and a bout of whiplash. Does anyone else have a problem with the change? Dr. Jekyl and Mrs. Hyde Syndrome?

Rgv Chick, what a heartbreaking episode you were tasked with. Yet, you gave great care and consideration and tinged your words with wisdom and compassion.

“Yela tells him that those crusts look horrible; she pauses as she rethinks it, then adds that maybe his scars might help them”. Could anything be equally as loathsome? Yes. "Yela tells Dave that she will stand him at a corner to see how much money they can get". As a lump forms in my throat, such bitter bile can barely be fathomed.

"From the Depths of a Mother's Heart". Rgv Chick, I share your confusion and readily admit I have no idea what is in Yela's heart. Is she confused? Frightened? Heartless? Pure evil personified? All of the above? A monster with a shred of conscious is the best theory I can put forward.

I readily admit I understood little of the dialog. Tonight, I consider that a blessing.

"Audi smiles in wonderment" was a light, sweet moment.

"Gabriel declares that his duty will be to prove that she deserves all the happiness in the world…because he loves her…insanely; though she is probably going to be a terribly cantankerous old woman who will be hitting him all the time" made me smile. I have no doubt that this couple will fight fiercely. To be together. To stay together.

I had thought Xavi and Marisol were going to have relatively smooth sailing. Not to be. I still think Mari is smart and will carve out her own niche. Perhaps representing him is not the best idea. I'm saddened though that Icky is derailing Mari's life further and just want him to be out of the picture.

I liked Bruno putting the little bully in his place. Good for him!

"Julieta quickly goes to Dave and embraces him with much love and relief…". I'm hoping that Robert and Julieta will be the safe haven Dave so richly deserves. My heart drops every time I see his little, tear stained face. Basta!

It's always pure pleasure reading your recaps Rgv Chick. This was lovingly done...Thank you.

Diana

Thank you, RgvChick, for yet another excellent recap.

RgvChick, I don’t understand Yela either. I am going to opt for Yela being mentally unstable which would explains her contradictory behavior. It looks like she is homeless since the fire considering where she is living.

Great way to decide a wedding date: I loved the rock, paper, scissors.

Diana, Bruno putting the brat in his place was the best. Finally he has some consequences.

So, Hugo is now a baker. . .

Rgv Chick, thank you for this quick and wonderful recap, it was a great help to me.

Like Diana, I don't know what to make of Yela. At times she seems so heartless, other times she acts like she really does care about her son. She might be guilt tripping, but then why the offer to "sell" Dave? And she keeps coming back to this idea. I suppose time will tell.

Marisol is very conflicted and confused ever since that interview, and perhaps before. I hope she gets things straight in her mind at some point.

Has eating all those cookies and such over the years finally paid off for Hugo? Maybe help out the Córcega bakery too.

As usual, my favorites are Gaby (wait, wasn't he yet another "Don't call me..."?) and Dani. But Dani should ban him from the workshop before he seriously injures her or burns down the building.

Can somebody kill off Yela the BITCH please ?

Diana, Jarifa, and Andy, you are quite welcome and thank you for the insightful comments.

Diana, " I still think Mari is smart and will carve out her own niche." ITA, I don't blame her at all for trying to protect Frida, but the main problem is her insecurities. Andy, "Marisol is very conflicted and confused ever since that interview," I can understand her feeling badly about Xavi's statement regarding the kiss she gave him so long ago, but to obsess on it is a bit much. As Xavi pointed it out it was many years ago...and she was just another fan that pretty much attacked him with that kiss.

Jarifa, I thought the rock, paper, scissors game was a great idea! I just luuurve those scenes with Dani and Gabi. I didn't see the purpose for the scene with Sam though...other than to make her out to be a ditsy nature freak.

Andy, I was wondering about Hugo too. He just started helping out with household chores...and now he's a baker? He does eat a lot of cookies, but this is just out of left field. And I'm at your table regarding Dani and Gabi...they are so awesome together. Maybe Laura V and Juan P should consider a comedy series...I would definitely watch.

Steve, I would be happy if Yela just went away.

If you think about it. Linda, Marisol and Daniela are all insecure in their own way and looking to find a path for themselves. Thank goodness for Julieta and the new and improved Blanca.

Thanks RGV!

I'm very excited about the upcoming wedding! Is it too much to hope that Dani wears a dress?

So Yela has a little heart after all. At least she was looking for a job. I guess desperation for money can blind the best of people and she isn't close to being the best. Glad Dave is back with R and J.

Hugo and cookies, who knew? Anyone else worried about Bruno's business deal with dad? Hugo was supposed to be a part of a deal too. We haven't seen daddy dearest in awhile.

I must say if Xavi gives up his career for Mari i won't believe it. As much pain as it will cause, I think they are all better off if he goes away.

You're welcome, Carvivlie!

We haven't seen Hugo Sr. in a while, but he did call Bruno in the episode previous to this one. During the call Bruno mentioned that he had already started his robotic workshops. After that Hugo Sr. asked him something (we didn't get to hear), and Bruno, sounding excited, told him he would be sending "them" to him. I'm assuming Bruno will be sending information regarding his workshops to his father...maybe Hugo Sr. will invest in some sort of robotics business for Bruno? It does seem that both of Julieta's brothers are finally spreading their wings.

Excellent recap as usual, Rgv Chick! Back home and ready to comment! I'm glad the separation from Dave didn't drag on too long. Yela is complex, and not unlike birth mothers in other adoptive situations, like infant adoptions. It's becoming more and more common to give the birth mother a role in an adopted child's life. Yela is complex--in an impossible situation and no hero. Boy! Gabi really knows both families. I trust that Xavi and Marisol will get back together--even if Xavi has to give up his career. I bet he chooses Marisol over it. Imelda just can't stop being a metiche. The best thing for Frida would be to have Xavi as a stepdad, as she herself realizes. Such a sensible child! I too loved how Bruno handled the little bully. A born teacher! Though he should have left a responsible older student, like Aris, or another teacher, in charge if he had to be out of the room. Btw, Blanca's mistakes in English seem to me to be very authentic language-learner mistakes.

SpanProf, I agree about Xavi. It was Marisol who had to push him back into reiviving his musical career. He seemed just fine and happy working in the bakery.

Thanks, Rgv Chick.

At Paraíso Oaxaqueño (the same two-bit, rat-infested motel where Gabriel stayed),

Rgv Chick, what eagle eyes you have! I had not picked up on that at all.

Robert then suggests that Xavi and he go talk to Icknacio to clear things up,

What a bad idea. Has Robert never talked to Icknacio before? Ick is a moron.

When Frida pleads that he not leave, Xavi gives her his guitar that is like his own life. He tells her that she can keep it and he will come see and practice with her.

Almost my favorite scene. Xavi is a keeper. Marisol should actually be pleased that the kiss she stole from him in a crowd of fan years ago meant nothing to him and was unwanted (ahem, sexual harassment). To me, that means Xavi's not the type to seize the opportunity and have a quickie with a fan.

Of course, my favorite scene was Daniela and Gabriel's rock, paper, scissors wedding date. As adorable as they are though, I can't help wondering what they're going to do for income since she hasn't sold a piece yet, he hasn't landed in a new business yet, and he doesn't want to live off his dad. They've got a lot to do in two months besides plan a wedding.

Rgv Chick, I want Yela to get out of Dodge. Permanently. She can do nothing but confuse Dave as she is very unstable and troubled. I will change my mind if she agrees to extensive counseling which I am confident Robert can provide. She frightens me.

Carvivlie, I really, really hope Dani goes with a beautiful dress for her wedding. The casual clothes are fine for her workshop but I want to see her all glammed up too!

Totally agree SpanProf and Jarifa. Xavi never failed to wear a smile in the bakery. He was enjoying it and was seamlessly blending into the family.

I also do think they will end up together. Jarifa, Marisol definitely was the wind beneath his wings. His motivation hardly registered and he seems happier with a quieter life. I think becoming famous again was Marisol's dream for Xavi. Not Xavi's dreamfor himself. :)

Our comments crossed Niecie.

"Xavi is a keeper". For certain!

"Marisol should actually be pleased that the kiss she stole from him in a crowd of fan years ago meant nothing to him" makes such sense! I only wish you could point that out to her.

I am rooting for this couple all the way...

Yes, Diana, it was almost as if Xavi was going along with Marisol’s “Manager” role as a way of giving her a chance to prove what she was capable of doing. Would it not be funny if Xavi and Hugo both ended up at the bakery? Hugo would have a professional kitchen where he could bake his cookies . . . So many possibilities for a second season. . . .

And Xavi could have more piano students than just Frida.

RGv Chick - thank you for your recap. I've been babysitting our grandchild all day and may not get to watch this episode. Maybe this weekend. Nonetheless, I am relieved that Yela seems willing to do an open adoption. It can be win-win for everyone when done right.

Thank you, everyone for stopping by! Your comments are thought-provoking and insightful as ever.

SpanProf, " The best thing for Frida would be to have Xavi as a stepdad, as she herself realizes. Such a sensible child!" you are right about that! Marisol doesn't give Frida enough credit.

Niecie, "Xavi is a keeper. Marisol should actually be pleased that the kiss she stole from him in a crowd of fan years ago meant nothing to him and was unwanted (ahem, sexual harassment). To me, that means Xavi's not the type to seize the opportunity and have a quickie with a fan." I hadn't thought about it that way, but yes, thanks for pointing that out.

Diana, "I want Yela to get out of Dodge. Permanently. She can do nothing but confuse Dave as she is very unstable and troubled. " ITA! As long as she is around, there will always be that threat that she could want Dave back...Robert and Julieta don't need that hanging over their heads.

Jarifa, "Would it not be funny if Xavi and Hugo both ended up at the bakery?" Now that would be something! Or instead of working at the Corsega bakery, they could open up their own pastry shop...or a second Corsega bakery!

Doris, what a blessing to have grandchildren! I know it can be tiresome, but what joy...and the memories you are making! ...and that goes for all the other grandmas too! :-)

Yela has had a sad life, but ITA even as a non-custodial mother who sometimes visits Dave, she is no good. Most folks would be uplifted by a sweet little boy like Dave, but she is not. Maybe she can get help from the foundation for herself, but I don't think it will hurt her heart to be without Dave, and it would sure hurt Dave's spirit to be around an authority-mother figure as negative as she is.
