Caer En Tentacion #57, 1/9/18: Hard Truths

Lola tearfully admits to Raquel that she's preggars with Juan's baby; that he was a big mistake, has aggression problems and has beaten and abused her throughout; that it was just a physical attraction and he's the only guy she's ever been with so yeah, she knows it's his demon seed.  He showed up at her mom's funeral; he was supposed to get help and promised that he'd changed but he hadn't.  They'd done the deed this last time and she'd foolishly not taken any kind of protection.  Now there's a burnt bun in the oven that she wants shed of.  AND. no, Papi can't ever know!!

Santiago is at Alina's law office laying the law down to her for abusing a minor.  She tries to divert, but Santi's no fool.  He sees through her kind of beauty and as much as tells her so.  She's a grown, accomplished and beautiful women who could have it all.   What's her game, anyway?  "--But what if I told you there was a mutual attraction?"  Fageddabowdit, says Santi.  Nobody messes with his son and hurts him.  Got it?  She offers to introduce him to another lawyer.  He refuses, saying she's a great attorney and he/they need her help with Benji's custody.  So, it's her decision to do it or not.  (Viewerville figures, she's going to keep her clothes on from now on where Nicolas is concerned, if she doesn't want professional problems, let alone to be thrown in the clink herself.)

In Valle Godoy is questioning Vicente again.  This time it's over his many overnights in jail for beating up on his wife and all that drunk and disorderly stuff; he throws in Vice's long dead daddy for good measure.  "--The prosecutor's office determined it was suicide, right?  Why don't you tell me about that?"  Vice clams up and says he died ages ago.  He was a drunk, he fell into the river and he died.  Why bring that up now?  Leave it alone."  Godoy again asks if Vice new about Carolina's getting preggars with Becker's baby.  He says nope.  "--But you knew something when you found them together in that cabin, right?"  Godoy loses his cool for a moment and says he's certain Vice ain't tellin' him all he knows.  "--Yeah?  Well that's why you're the cop and that's why you are the one who's supposed to investigate.  So, investigate."  He adds that there's a huge amount of money missing from the Beckers' business accounts and perhaps it was going to him all this time?  Vice says yeah, nice if it had been but ain't no money around here.  Yeah, but if he finds out, then he could accuse him of extortion.  Vice should know he'll keep the investigation over those funds going and he'd do well to do the right thing before it is too late.  "--I don't think you'd appreciate much having to spend the rest of your life in jail.  --Or would you?  Think about it."

Raq promises to help Lola and to keep her secret.  Just then the doctor comes out and tells her that Mia's ready to go home.  She's been released from the hospital.  [dar de alta]

At Legato, Mike shows up with some sort of investment scheme for Andres to wash their ill gotten gains with: a national franchise of catering companies (I think) like that one Raquel started.  Millions to be made. Hmmmmm.
Raq plans a congratulations/welcome the baby dinner for that night.  She calls Damian to let him know.  Also she wants Dam to have a father-son chat with Federico about his being accepted no matter which gender he tends to be attracted to.  And, when Dam gets home early that evening, he does just that.  (FF>>)
Agustin kids with Nacho about finding another lady-love and then they're both glad to note that the backing of the building project by the Becker's went through.  Santi's depositing the check as they speak.  Nacho's still supposed to be the godfather to the new baby.
At Legato, Azucena's about to leave for home, but Andres won't let her leave until she finds all the financials on the catering business.  She calls Dam afterward to let him know what Andres forced her to do.  He thanks her for the info.
At los Becker that evening, dinner preparations are going on.  Raq's got a special glow.  It's because she thinks she's preggars now.  She sends Jovita to the store for a test kit which Jovita puts in Raq's bathroom for later.  Dam tells Raq about the "we support you" chat with Fede.
A bit later, los Alvarado arrive.  Santi surprises Viewerville with a first: he's actually wearing a sports jacket!!   Lola and Fede go upstairs to his room while Nico and Mia sneak off to her room before din-din for a little party of their own.  Santi thanks Dam for backing the new business, little guessing the real reason Dam's doing all of this, i.e., for Benji's benefit, not Santi's.
Upstairs, Mia asks Nico if he's ever done "it" before.  They make out and she admits she's still "pure".  He eventually does as well.  Just when they're about to do the deed they hear noises out in the hall like adults talking or something.   Unbeknownst to them, Dam has followed Caro on her way to the restroom for a stolen smooch.
Just as Nico and Mia and Dam and Caro are all getting to first base, Raq comes upstairs and into the hallway to tell everyone that dinner's on the table.  (Nico's hiding in the bathroom putting his shirt back on. )  Fede covers for Nico when Dam bursts into Mia's bedroom, and once his father's gone back downstairs, Fede calls Nico out of his bathroom hidy-hole and gives Mia a disgusted/disappointed stare before going down with Lola to eat.
Caro tells Santi how much trust she has in him that this project will prosper.  She also mentions making the Becker's godparents (I think?).
Raq has a surprise for the families after dinner.  She finds her test and building up her courage.  She is ready to get the results.
The pizza delivery guy identifies Nacho as the man who save him from a beating the night Caro was killed.  Nacho is ultimately free to go.
At los Alvarado, Nico asks Santi how it went with Alina.  So-so.  He doesn't know if he can really trust the woman to do her best now, though.  Nico believes she'll remain professional.   There's a double entendre thrown out about handling "it" the supposed sexual relationship/or suppressing of same.  Nico promises he's going to get over her and will only work till the case with the Becker's is over.
Godoy pays a visit to Legato and asks Azucena for financial information: in particular, if Vice and Caro were there extorting money from the company.  Andres notes from the hallway that Godoy's back questioning Azu about things.  He quickly dials Rueda on his cell and, mucho aggravated, asks him just what's going on.
At the hospital, Lola's helping Raq take Mia home.  Mia wants to know why Mama slapped the snot out o' Grandma Miriam.  Raq says she finally lost it with Screamin' Mimi.  Lola rolls Mia out of the hospital and Raq stays behind to call up a doctor about something (?) for Santi's daughter.
Back at the business, Godoy tells Azu that the auditors [perritos] found money missing without being accounted for, and it goes back as much as two years worth.  He asks if she knew that either about(?) Andres or Vice doing something with extortion and if Dam was diverting funds.  She tells Godoy she never told (Andres? Godoy?) that that man ever came to extort funds from Damian.   "Ah, so then he did used to come around?" "--Yes, he came around.  But I never was aware of what transgression he was about."  Godoy offers her a chance to learn what was going on with Dam (and/or Vice) during all this time.  Doesn't she care to know?  Sure, she says.  Of course she does.....  "--Well, then, let's start at the beginning.  When did the affair between Damian Becker and Carolina Rivas begin?"
Caro walks in on Raq in her bedroom when going up to change Benji's diaper.  Raq has her quickly close the door to the bedroom.  Caro is shown the pregnancy test in Raq's hand.  Raq says she's a bit late with her period and she's anxious about it all.  Caro was too.  Well, why not see once and for all?  (I think.)

Gracias, Jardinera.

Andres is clearly looking to get into money-laundering. Slimy Miguel said that they could be millionaires in six months. He may try to do this through Raquel's catering business and not wait to start his own so she will be up to her ears in this before too long.

It would also not surprise me if he were to plan on murdering Fede and Mia so there would be no one else to inherit Legato but himself.

I fail to understand why Raquel is so hot to have a baby now. Federico has sexual identity issues and Mia has more issues than The New York Times. If she were to have a baby now that would be one more thing that gets more attention than Mia (in Mia's head) and since Fede and Mia are so much older that baby would not have real siblings in them.

I've known several people with significantly older siblings and they all said that they didn't feel like they grew up in the same family. One said that the older of her brothers -- as in 15 years older -- went away to college and she had no recollection of him living under the same roof. Another said that the younger of his two sisters -- eight years younger -- resented him for displacing her as the baby of the family. They are no longer speaking.

More Later.

Thanks Jardinera!

Lola needs a mother figure in her life. If Carolina was alive she may not have been as sympathetic as Raquel regarding Lola’s pregnancy. She didn’t even care about Benjamin.

I think the fact that Raq is getting her hopes up about a possible pregnancy is her thinking everything is fine in her marriage. And even though the test will likely be negative, Carolina will still have a hissy fit.

I still don’t think it’s wise that there were people like Nacho and Azucena who were unwilling to rat out Damian and Carolina and therefore left Santiago and Raquel in the dark.

Jardinera, I highly doubt the actual episode was as engrossing and engaging as your excellent recap.

Your description was so vivid, I could actually see in my mind's eye what transpired with Raq pulling Caro in to see the pregnancy results. Like you TF, I'm assuming they were negative.

"Mike shows up with some sort of investment scheme for Andres to wash their ill gotten gains" was my favorite.

My heart just broke for Lola. How much more will happen to this poor young girl? Thank God Raquel will help her, whatever she chooses to do. the unfortunate thing is now Raq knows and Santi does not. This will surely drive a wedge between the two. I am not convinced Santi has changed all that much and think he is still a controller.

I was glad Santi effectively shut down Alina. And icy too I might add. All business.

If I knew for a certainty that Santi had nothing to do with the accident/murder, I would feel more kindly for him overall.

So Mia is now free to cause more mayhem. "Mia has more issues than The New York Times" was spot on Urban!

Good for Godoy for going after Vincente. Good luck trying to get him to open up or admit anything. I wonder if there is anything that will be found to link him to his father's death. From what we know, Vincente saved Caro so he deserves no punishment for that act.

Thanks so much Jardinera.

Diana

Thanks, Jardinera. Loved the tone of your recap,

Diana, so true about Lola’s secret now being a possible wedge between Raquel and Santiago.

The problem with being the Nacho or Azucena in this situation is that you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Every advice columnist in creation says that this is NOYB so therefore don't say anything. Both were looking to protect their jobs and Nacho to protect his relationship with Santiago and his family. The most either could say to their respective transgressors would have been to fess up to their spouses and let the chips fall where they may.

OOPS; in my earlier post about sibling age differences I mis-stated the 8-year difference. My friend is the baby of that family and the younger of his two sisters is eight years older. I should never post before a double dose of caffeine.

Azucena should also be more forthcoming with Fernando. She had to have known that Vicente was blackmailing Damian. And while I would give Vicente a pass for the outcome of his defending Carolina back in the day any punishment he receives now will be for his verbal abuse of her, his blackmailing Damian, and the effect that had on Carolina. The other issue is... were those his fingerprints on the pistol found at the crime scene?

Yes, any secret Lola shares with Raquel could drive a wedge between Raquel and Santiago now. It's terribly ironic that Lola could suffer a similar fate as her mother if she goes through with a pregnancy now. This could derail her career ambitions big time, but it would also trap her with a controlling and violent man who has no business doing what he does for a living and who would only become more abusive.

Thanks, Jardinera.

At least Lola knows the right person to go to for help. Ordinarily, I'd say Raq should convince Lola that she needs to tell her dad too. But I think Santi (unintentionally) would make things worse. If Caro were alive I think she'd be understanding like Raq and keep Santi in the dark too.

My guess is three years ago Raq wanted to be pregnant to recapture the excitement of the early years of her marriage. She was way too hyper, planning a dinner for Caro and Santi. Most parents of a newborn just want to rest, not dinner dates with other couples.

Urban, I also do not think Azucena should have said anything. Damian is her employer. Her loyalty is to him (as has been oft stated here).

Nacho's situation was a bit trickier. I wonder if he liked Caro initially and it was just finding out she was cheating with Damien that changed his mind or if it was something else to add to the pile.

Niecie, your comments about Raq planning the dinner was spot on. Sadly, how different all of their lives might have been had she found another couple to befriend.

Diana

Hi, all. Tks! My bet is Raq will be pregnant and lose the baby or will have a reason that she may have gotten an abortion herself?

Agree with Diana, that the recap was far better than the episode. It just moved the story ahead by minutes rather than by days. Thank you for taking one on the chin for us, Jar.

I know Azucena knows something about everything, but we can't be sure she DID know that Vic was actually extorting Dam. She disliked his visits, appearance and even more that Damian would actually be willing to see him. He just wasn't the sort of businessman that normally came to see Damian.

Since Santi was so tender and understanding with Lola about her starting to have sexual relations, this news might just be another hurdle he has to deal with BUT he absolutely cannot tolerate Juan sniffing around her and he's thrown Juan out of the house a couple of times. To learn that his daughter is pregnant by this phony teacher and violent stalker-predator (although he doesn't know this part) will be devastating.

Of course, Lola and Raq won't be able to keep this secret (I mean, what could go wrong, eh?). I also see this as an unsurmountable divide between Santi and Raq. I'm sad because I was beginning to see them as a team working to keep Santi's family together.

Hormones are funny. It hits some women earlier than others. After I knew two children were enough for us to manage, around age 3 of my youngest, I began to fantasize on what it would be like to have another baby. Fortunately it was only a fantasy, because babies aren't babies for very long.

Do we have to go through episodes of Andres and Mike setting up a money-laundering business? Please, let's get back to Nando and the investigation. We need to have the gun and the fingerprints identified, stat.

Jar--Raq already had one miscarriage, so this is a definite possibility. I don't see any way she would have agreed to an abortion--once Raq makes up her mind about something, as Dam has said, she won't stop until she achieves her goal.

However, if your scenario is correct, maybe it was Raquel that Damian took to the midwife in Lisa's village. We never saw that scene where Caro and Dam went and supposedly she changed her mind about it. It seems to me that was a very important factoid we never heard anything more about--Caro making up her mind to have the baby--Benji. Or, *wait a minute,* maybe it was the second pregnancy she and Dam went to see the midwife for an abortion. TIME WILL TELL.

Jardinera654,thanks for the recap.Well
I had hoped they were done with that back and forth. But they haven't yet reached the half way mark yet? But its
Almost about to catch up to that time
When santi is payin for something, and
The wifey ends up in a muddy shallow
Grave.
I think we may have to sit through the
Custody case, and watch mimi's face get even more stinkier(stonier)than it is.
Now I typed..........^but auto correct
Replaced it with"stinkier"I vote both.
Santi looks good holding a baby.

Who thinks santi will feel betrayed
When and if he finds out that his Lola
Is with child and Raquel didn't tell
Him? Glad he got in the succubus face
About his son, maybe she'll go sit on
A block of ice and cool it.

So if Raquel would have been preggers
What would Caro have done? She was standing there holding benji thinking
"Don't be preggers-don't be preggers".
I'm glad she wasn't.She didnt need to
Have no more beckers, there's enough
Sickness in her world that she had yet
To find out about in her crumbling surroundings.
Ok enough of this,I want To enjoy my dinner.

Thank you Jardinera654:-)

Jardinera thank you for the very spot on Recap. I am depending more on more on recaps these days in order to keep up.

I feel sorry for Raquel, here she is very excited about the possibility of having a baby and what does Damian do, he sneaks off to try to get it on with Carol. Many people in this Patty feel bad for Carolina. I don't she betrayed her family, her "friend" and she did it with a "mosquita muerta" face, the meaning gets lost in translation but basically did it pretending to be a goody goody. And I agree Raquel's biggest mistake was to befriend the Alvarado's. I pause when I write this because maybe her biggest mistake was marrying a two-timing loser.

auto correct made my Patio into a Patty.

Sandie--While I agree with your characterization of Caro, when Raquel and Dam got married, he was no two-timing loser. He came with a good pedigree, handsome, charming, money in the family, interested and attracted to her, how could she refuse his advances? She dumped Andres for Dam, something Andres will never forgive nor forget.

Wait a sec; Raquel herself said that when she and Damian got together he inherited a bankrupt business and rebuilt it. So Andres can't claim she dumped him for a guy with more money. She dumped Andres for a guy with more personality, ambition, and drive.

The business was bankrupt, but that didn't mean there wasn't money in the family. They probably lived in a house much like the one Miriam still lives in, good clothes, vacations, luxury cars, etc. They were also making sure Dam got a good education. Bankruptcy (as we have seen recently) doesn't mean you go immediately to the poor house.

But you are right when you say he had more personality, ambition and drive!

UA: Psychopath Andres wanting to have Fede & Mia whacked wouldn't be surprising at all either.

I wouldn't be shocked if he eventually whacks Raquel.

Anita: Nico & Mia got frisky eh ?
