Caer en Tentacion #70, 1/25/18: The Investigation Heats Up (Really?) Yes, a Stolen Credit Card

Or, Dam(n) I'm Breaking Up With You Because All You Want From Me is Sex.

Folks, what luck. A CSI episode that goes nowhere fast just dropped in my lap. The recap, however, will go somewhere. Some scenes are combined.

After Antonio tells Santi about the one stolen credit card from Dam's billfold getting used (see prior episode) he quickly goes over the facts they have:
1. A rock hit the windshield. It could have been an accident, but it could also have been deliberate, to make them stop.
2. After the wreck, Dam was hit on the head with a shovel and Caro's body appears elsewhere.
3. They believe Caro was likely shot once at the scene of the accident with Santi's father's gun.
4. One credit card was stolen, although now they aren't sure if anything else was taken.

He promises they are going to follow up. Santi swears he didn't do it. Tonio says the judge will have to let him go--as long as he doesn't do anything else stupid.

Mia convinces Nico of Alina's lies about Andres' charges, which were never even filed. That and her treachery with Granny and Rueda relating to Benji's custody. He leaves Alina's den of iniquity with Mia.

Raquel has met with Alina to review her statement regarding the partnership between Santi and Damian. They have a very strained heart-to-heart conversation about their private lives. Yes, says Raquel, she's in love with Santiago, even though hubby is alive. Yes, says Alina, it seems they are both in love with men who are not right for them (Barf Bag, Please).

En el Pasado
Laura passes on to Nando what Celia told her about her police guard taking advantage of her, sexually. Nando says the woman is craycray. Laura says Celia is scared. Nando wonders if she'll make any accusations. Laura isn't sure. Nando says it would harm an officer's career (ya think, big boy?) Laura theorizes Celia seduced the officers so they couldn't stop guarding her--like Nando maybe? If it is, she states, Nando stands to lose his job and his marriage.

Raq comes in to talk to a very hostile Mia. Mia had said ealier (in the last episode) that if a friend of hers had treated her the way Caro treated Raq, she would have reacted the same way. She told her mother that Caro isn't worth fighting over with her father. In this conversation, Mia says Caro wants everything Raq has, comprende? If Raq doesn't want to open her eyes about Caro, that's her problem.  Mia leaves her own room while Raq is still standing there. Raq immediately goes to Dam to ask if he would cheat on her.

En el Presente
Bebo knows what kind of reaction Santi would have if he learns the baby is Juan's, so why doesn't Lola go along with his proposal and agree the baby is his. He loves her. Lola, incredulous, melts and they start kissing (I guess that means yes). They are interrupted by a call from a very jittery Miriam. She's inviting them to visit Benji any time. No sooner than they get the address, Nico shows up. He's still steaming mad because of Alina's lies. Nico sees the bruise on Lola's cheek. Lola is sure Alina lied because she's sold out to the Beckers. They're surrounded by traitors. Bebo, not knowing any different, steps in to defend Alina. She got him out of his problems. Nico tells Lola he's going after Juan. He won't ever touch her again.

Miriam's phone call was one she didn't initiate. She's following Rueda's advice. He tells her not to worry about Raquel and whatever it is she might say about Miriam. They'll simply charge her with defamation. Rueda is worried about her emotional state. He's never seen her like this before. She won't discuss it.

Nando goes to the cell block to see Santi. They have words, or mainly Santi does charging that Nando has always thought he was guilty. Nando says that it often happens the guilty party is the one closest to the victim. It's nothing personal. He's an officer and he'll investigate until they get to the truth.

Skinny police officer tells Tonio that none of the merchandise purchased with the credit card was sent to a home address. All were purchased at the stores. He gives Tonio the list. So far, no videos are available from that date. Tonio will get an order ready for a judge.

Luz runs into Fede in the Legato office hallway. She's sorry for what happened with his sister in her presence. Now, she'd like to invite him out for a drink.

Raquel has arrived at the Alvarado house from Alina's office to find Nico there. He tells her what happened. Raq says she did speak to Miriam, but not to Andres. She doesn't know who persuaded him not to press charges. Nico tells her how Alina is working with Rueda--news to Raquel. Alina is the one who turned Benji over to Grammy. Raq is confused as to why she would do that. Nico thinks it was money. Raq says she doesn't need money.

Raquel sees Lola's bruise. Nico tells her it was Juan. Lola will tell Santi after he's been freed. Raq tells them about the credit card being used. She cautions that Santi might not be freed, but he might be let out on bail. Antonio calls Raq about the images of the person using the credit card.

Sadly, the skinny police officer (Padilla?) tells Godoy that so far they've had no luck with the security cameras, but they still have a few to go. Happily, the two later go to Antonio to tell him they have one photo from one shop.

Lola tells Raquel all about the pregnancy. Raq is happy for her and will be there for her. Then she gives her/us a PSA announcement on domestic violence. Lola tells her she wants to keep the baby. They end up hugging each other.

En el Pasado
Damian has clearly learned the standard telenovela trope language: To a compromising question, you never answer yes or no, you answer with another question: How could she think something like that of him, and what about her? For Raq, the answer is easy. It's NO, she would never cheat on him because she loves him--not like him, jumping around the question to avoid giving her a yes or a no.

Cornered, like the rat he is, he answers NO, he wouldn't cheat on her. (Where is that cagy devil when you need him? Flames should be shooting out of Dam's ears and he should be growing horns.) Raq says he has little credibility. (Maybe an angel whispered a truth in her ear.) They begin to argue. Raq charges that he is distant, never asks how she is, how she feels and when it comes to making love, he doesn't, it's just sex, mechanically. She continues, he's been this way ever since he temporarily left the house and he hasn't tried it again for fear she'll lose it and go crazy.

Dam seems sincere when he says he doesn't want to separate. He tells her he doesn't know how to love her, how to catch her, she's so strong, complex, she shines, makes everyone laugh. (Way to go Dam, lay it on so thick I'll need another Barf Bag). He tells her he's always thought she was better than he was, she's too much woman for him. They hug, but his look over her shoulder says, yay, she bought it.

Next day after breakfast, after everyone leaves, Raquel shares with Jovita what Dam said the night before. Raq always felt small and inconsequential around him, so she still can't believe he's the one that feels insecure. Jovita says, believe it, you are a precious diamond. Yeah, says Raq, half joking, a diamond in the rough.

Santi and Caro are still discussing the break-up between herself and Raquel. Santi is convinced there was something more to it than just the Benji incident. She walks off. He follows and demands an answer. Caro blames it on Raquel--she's not well, she's a little unbalanced right then. Caro takes some of the responsibility for what happened, but Santi doesn't think the reaction was normal. Caro says, well, that's the way it always is with him, she's the one who does things wrong, she's the bad one. It's fortunate that now he has Florencia who is so pretty, so nice, so engaging, he even tried out her own gift on her.

Santi tries to let Nico know that everything is going to be ok. He realizes he had to change with the times (and give up his macho ways). Caro wanted to work, they have more money. Nico points out that when they had less money, they had fewer problems and were more united. He'd like it to be like it was before. Santi reassures him all will be well. Lola gets home and they have a group hug.

Celia seduces Godoy -- again  -->> FF Only something bad can come of this.

Fede comes to Mia's bedroom. They talk. She wants to be friends again. Have things the way they used to be, before the Alvarado's came into their lives. He tells her it's not the Alvarados fault, it's hers. She gets out of control. What does she want him for, to destroy another SUV, to do some other mischief? He doesn't know who he is; he just wants her to accept him as he is. But, he continues, she can't; she judges, she's bothersome. He loves her, but she can't love anybody. He leaves her, crying, and alone.

Damian and Carolina have a very public break-up. Or, a break-up in a very public place so it won't end up in a kiss, a clinch and a quickie up against a wall. Caro fears that Raq suspects there is something between them. Dam says it's possible. He says she questioned him last night, but he calmed her down. It's always been difficult to make Raq happy. She's very complex. Caro interrupts -- is that why he sought her out? Because she's easy? No, he says, with her it is different, he fell in love with her. Caro finally voices what she's come to realize--she'll never be anything but "the other woman" and when she thinks of that, she wishes she'd never met him.

The most important thing now, Caro says, is for Raq to never find out about them. He agrees. She ends the conversation with she's only his lover, but she's Santi's wife, so she's sure he'll agree this is the time to end it.

(Not sure he will agree, though.)

Thanks, Anita. Great recap!

Ha! Miriam is on the hot seat. How long before we know “how” she abused Damián?

Damián is the biggest rat around except for Juan. Yes, a “barf bag” was needed. Too bad Carolina was never strong enough to give him the heave-ho. Ironic that he is not dead yet but she is.

Oh, “great”! Lola is keeping the baby. At least everyone knows about Juan.

I had to FF through Mia scenes. I don’t know why anyone even bothers to talk to her anymore.

I love that you infused your wry humor throughout this Anita. Fantastic.

"Alina's den of iniquity" and "Yes, says Alina, it seems they are both in love with men who are not right for them (Barf Bag, Please) were a few of the many highlights for me.

It appears to me that the relationship between Caro and Raquel disintegrated rather quickly. From trusted confidante to rival. I can't help but feel Caro got tired of the deception and that subconsciously her actions (jumping down Raq's throat due to her proactive treatment of Benji) was just part of her feeling trapped and defeated. She is finally realizing she is (or should be) a wife, not a side piece. Raquel finally turned her good instincts where they needed to be - seeing what is right before her eyes. Damian's discontent was too large a clue to ignore. Add menacing Mia's "If Raq doesn't want to open her eyes about Caro, that's her problem" and the awareness was inevitable.

"Ironic that he is not dead yet but she is" said it all Jarifa.

"*Note: Has Antonio forgotten the coroner's report of one shot to the lung and one to the heart (see episode #1)?" Perhaps. I wish I could forget. Caro's acted badly but the memory of how this poor woman died is the one thing that has stayed with me.
If Raq doesn't want to open her eyes about Caro, that's her problem.

Little Lola. God bless her.

I can't tell what "side" Alina is on. I only know I'm not on hers.

I wonder whose image we will see in the photo.

Anita, thank you, thank you.

Diana

Gracias, Anita.

Now that the door has been opened on Miriam's darkest secret to date (we always need that qualifier here) they need to shine the light on it. I can understand Raquel's silence for Damian's sake for the past 20 years but now is the time. Based on what he's going through now Rueda would drop Screaming Mimi's business like a hot potato if he knew.

I know that's not the popular opinion here but I think Lola is making a huge mistake for all previously stated reasons. Unless Juan ends up dead she will be stuck with him permanently. I hope someone can keep Nicolas from beating the crap out of him because Nico doesn't deserve the consequences of that. Bebo needs to be chewed out big time for spilling the frijoles. Since he and Nico will both protect Lola to the degree possible they are vulnerable themselves. Neither of them needs trouble with the law.

Good for Federico that he and Luz have made up their misunderstanding. They may not become lovers but at least there is no friction that anyone can fan into a conflagration.

Celia is another predator. Fernando is a total fool in that situation. What he's done here is a major ethics violation and could cost him his career.

Urban, it would have been great for Bebo to have realized what a problem he caused. Maybe Juan will just run into the wrong guys some night . . .

Thanks Anita for the quick recap.

I went back to find the medical examiner's report (which I think was in episode 9): "The medical examiner has finished and is recording his findings. The 38-year-old woman died instantly from two bullets from a 9mm. gun, one shot in the heart and one in the lungs. She also had contusions on her extremities and her head and was approximately 8 weeks pregnant."

Either the writers are sloppy in this episode (having Chief Antonio recount the wrong facts stated above) or the writers are making a case that the chief and his sidekick Godoy are sloppy investigators and loose with the facts or have very poor memories. I am inclined to think the writers didn't forget the medical examiner's findings but are making Antonio and Fernando (Tonio and Nando) do so. (But if the writers messed up shame on them). Of course there is a way to reconcile Episode 9 with this ' statement of facts': it was a magic bullet which went through the heart and lungs. But how many bullets did they recover that caused Carolina's wounds? Besides confusion on how the gun that allegedly killed Carolina was found in the bushes by some children and not in Santi's possession we now are treated to the confusion about how many bullets entered Carolina!

I noticed that the number of comments has steadily decreased since episode 1. It could be Viewerville has just given up the difficulty of following past and present of the lives of so many dark and tortured characters. But for those who have stuck with the narratives, we all want to know who killed Carolina. I would not rule out Santiago given his volatile nature evident in the very early episodes. But we have many suitable suspects: Vincente, Andres et al.

Hope we get more information on Miriam's sins. And I hope Raquel goes public so Miriam does not get to keep Benjamin.

Thanks Anita!!!

At least the murder story is moving again. Now we know a rock was thrown on the windshield. If this was planned, who would have known Dam and Caro's route? Someone who knew they were going away together, knew what time they were leaving and knew the route. If someone was following them in the car (that Caro quickly checked out at the toll) they wouldn't have been able to pull it off. Unless they were working with someone else and called in the coordinates. Or, Dam and Caro stopped for gas and the person drove on to set up? Seems a bit unlikely. It could just be that the rock on windshield was a happy accident for the person following in the car who wanted to do them harm.

I really don't care about Fede and his former workmates but the fact that they keep lingering around makes me think they will become more involved in the story. Or the writers just want to give Fede some screen time because he is the least involved of all the kids.

Urban, very interesting point about Rueda dropping Mimi once the truth comes out.

Seeing Mimi literally coming apart, he must realize that the secret is catastrophic. He has no scruples so will see if his disgust trumps his desire for money.

Anon, I might guess that Raquel will not go public. Despite her feelings about Damian, I think she would hesitate to say anything given the fact he is still alive. With everything her children have to face, that would just be adding another lurid tidbit for the world.

I readily admit I have not been able to follow the complicated plot lines here, but our small but astute group has done a remarkable job of doing so. Like you, I need to see who killed Caro. In so inhuman a manner. I would have stopped watching long ago because it is too dark and brutal. But, my curiosity won't be satisfied until I see the (likely) gruesome end.

I give the recappers here so much credit. Going back and reviewing early episode to give us the real facts goes far above and beyond.

Diana

ITA Diana! Our recappers are rocking this one! No filler here, so much more work.

Anon: In other words, some sicko shot a pregnant woman (Carolina) to death like an animal & then buried her too SMH.

The more I hear about the details, the more disgusted & angrier I'm getting because whoever did this (my $$$ is still on Andres as the #1 Suspect) is a demon for killing a pregnant woman like this!

Steve, Caro wasn't showing and Santi didn't even know she was pregnant. I don't think Caro did either. I mean still awful to kill Caro like they did. Basically she was hunted as she ran away from the car. Miriam is my number 1 and Mia number 2.

Well, I'm awake and functioning again. I can't help thinking and re-thinking all the investigations and possible motives.

Thanks, Anon@10:21. I'd forgotten which episode the coroner's report came out. Your speculations are right on. One bullet piercing both heart and lung.

That still doesn't clear up how the gun got back and forth from Santi's drawer to the scene of the crime on the night of the killing, back to Santi's drawer for Raquel to find, and finally back to the crime scene to be recovered by the boys.

Is it one gun or two? One bullet or two? AND, we still don't know whose fingerprint was on the gun the boys found. Shame on their lab--it's taking too long. Calleigh Duquesne or Delko would have had it back in no time.

The business of the credit card. Is it a red herring, like the bracelet? Could one of the first responders have filched it and gone on a shopping spree?

About the black car--It was seen speeding away from the toll booth ahead of Dam & Caro's car. The police did note that the driver kept the window up and his face shielded. The camera on the toll booth side apparently wasn't working, so they have no idea who might have been driving it. Now that we know both Fede and Mia know how to drive, they are back on my suspect list. Do we know where THEY were at the time of the accident? Hmmmm. Raquel doesn't deserve this, so I don't think we will be going there.

OTOH, Mimi certainly does deserve anything that brings her down. I'm not even considering her redeemable as a character. She can say sorry a million times, but if it's incestuous sexual abuse, she can go to prison and do hard time. It's hard to see how Mia could have avoided mental issues with both her father's side and her mother's side handing down faulty genes.

Anon, again--commenting on this telenovela is difficult because it is so dark, disturbing and unrelenting, but readership (according to the stats on our blog administrators page) is on a par with most of the other telenovelas on Univision over the last few months.

P.S. The recap wasn't all that quick, but once I got started, there was just no place to break it into two parts and write the second part this morning. I settled in and had a late night of it. Labor of love.

P.P.S. Anon--have you thought about recapping? Maybe as a guest? You can put the recap in the comment section and someone will post it, or send it to one of us in an e-mail. You have a good eye, comprehension, and writing.

Thanks Anita!

I've never been fully convinced that Damian is truly in love with Carolina. I'm wondering why and what made them eventually decide to leave, especially after three years. Carolina is technically coming to all the right conclusions but her actions prove otherwise. She knows what her role is in Damian's life but doesn't stay away.

I'm glad to see the mother-daughter relationship developing between Raquel and Lola. What a difference between Carolina and Raquel that Raquel actually takes the time to listen to Lola and give her comfort and advice while the one time we saw Lola try to talk to Carolina about something Carolina didn't even bother to listen and instead went to be with Damian.

Godoy seems to have a weird definition of "innocent until proven guilty". It's almost like he wants Santiago to be the murderer. I'm guessing his affair has something to do with Laura's accident but the question is how are these two things connected?

The thing I've learned about Mia is that while there is some truth behind the things she says in regards to Carolina and Alina etc, no one is gonna believe a word she says. She's too unpredictable and untrustworthy.

As far as Laura's accident is concerned, we're not there yet in the Pasado scenes, but I'm guessing it's coming up soon.

As to the most likely murder suspect, my money is first on Andres (who failed in the rape attempt), then Mia (who blames Carolina for her own woes). Miriam may or may not be Andres' accomplice. She would not want Damian dead, but Andres would, since he wants to inherit the factory.

What started bugging me this morning is why Lola got pregnant in the first place, since she did go to a doctor for contraception. Carolina went with her.

Anita muchas gracias, excellent recap.

I only have two comments, the first one is in the past when Carol is complaining about how Raquel's reaction was over the top, and maybe it's because she is not well. Girl your reaction was over the top, you freaked out when Raquel was just taking care of Benji. Raquel did the right thing, she called a doctor and then you jump down her throat for doing so. Your son is alive because of Raquel. So no, Raquel did what I would have done and shut you out of my life. With friends like you who needs enemies....done.

Second comment has to do with how annoyed I am with Godoy. There is evidence pointing to other suspects, but he is hell bent on making Santi the murderer. For example Mr. Godoy, the shovel did not have Santi's finger prints, the black car was owned by legato, how would Santi get into that car. I do think that the car at the toll booth is not a red herring. too much coincidence Carol seeing it there and it belonging to the company. Anyway Godoy irks me to the nth degree, not very likeable.

Something else just occurred to me... if a company car has GPS can the company monitor its position? If so can the police demand the records of the cars' movements?

Good idea, Urban! It makes sense in this day and age.

Thank Anita. Good recap.Damian's a sly

Sandie--In an earlier episode, the reason Nacho was picked up on the shovel deal, came the information from Andres that the two Legato cars were always available for anyone to use. The keys were left on the windshield for the next user. Raquel admitted to Tonio (or Godoy) that Nacho actually used the car once that she knew of to bring a worker to her house. Personally, I couldn't see Nacho doing anything like that, he would have called Santi or called a taxi, but juarever.

Urban, in this day and age, a company car would definitely have been fitted with a GPS, whether the employees knew it or not. With all the misuse that went on, many city governments have done it. This is a private enterprise, but they would be even more interested in having their cars tracked. Too bad it was burned beyond recognition, but the data should still be there, unless Andres or someone else disabled it.

I hated the way he cold-blooded offered to get rid of Patricia for Mike without leaving a trace and though he declined the offer, she showed up dead a short while later.

Anita: I forgot about Patricia and Andre's offer. Andres is still my number 1 suspect, but it may be too obvious. My number two is Mia but the person pulling Carolina's body is a man.

CONFESSION TIME
Thanks to Anon@10:21, who nudged me to take another look at Episode #9. I’d forgotten it was one I recapped. In the interests of due dilligence, I re-watched the episode.

Here’s the last word on the autopsy:
“….muerta por impacto de bala en el corazon y el pulmon…” Instant death. He used the singular—one bullet.

I guess when I heard the two places the bullet hit, I assumed it had to be two separate bullets.

I apologize, sincerely. Am I redeemed? I’ll go back and change that in the recap, but it won’t clear up any of the comments based on that piece of misinformation.

Antonio is cleared of disseminating misleading or incorrect information.

Anita: Thank you for taking a look back at that episode, and for all the other leg work you do for this patio. Appreciated.

Yes thank you Anita. You'd be a show on NCIS.
Now tell me this the cop that's married Laura? Is his name Antonio or
Nando, godoy? Now nando might be the one
With the beard.

Nina--Laura's detective husband is named Fernando Godoy. We've shortened it or changed it, but it's the same guy. Nando or Godoy, yes, he's the one with the dark beard.

Antonio is the lead detective, a friend of Santi's father. He's older than Godoy and has a grey beard.

"You'd be a shoe-in on NCIS" IS WHAT I was trying yo say.

Thank you Ms Anita : )

For posterity, all references to two bullets have been corrected (epi #9 & #70).

"...the person pulling Carolina's body is a man".

Sandie, I'm not sure if we saw that in an actual episode that's already aired or if it was in one of the quick "previews" or "teasers".

Initially, I thought that was sort of a spoiler. It definitely is a man but that doesn't mean there wasn't someone else there (Mia??)

Diana

Confession Anita?

If it weren't for your careful attention to getting the details right, I would be even more confused than I am now. I'm very grateful - thank you.

I am dreading, and I mean dreading seeing what actually happened to Caro in her final minutes.

Diana

Thank you Anita for this all the recaps you have penned. Also a big thank you to all the recappers who have provided time and talent. I am sure there are many out there, who like me read diligently or as time permits. Just when I think I have this novela straight, something happens and confusion sets in. The past and future style, even with different hairstyles is the culprit. I am riveted. I guess I am the odd one that looks forward to what will tumble out of Mia's mouth. Hasn't it been said that unbalanced folks blurt out truths with no filter whatsoever. Yes, she has serious issues and evil revenge streak, not guilty of being boring. I really like Lola, but she is kinda bland with lots of airtime. Alina, another insane cold-blooded vampires. Sucks the life right out of victims. I remember the convo between Sammy and Nico asking how anyone can live without Alina once they had her. That no other woman could give what she gave. I suppose it was her being skilled lover combined w hot and cold games. The more she claims she cannot be possessed, the more they want her. Whatever, please. She is possessed, by the Devil!!

Damien plays Raq like a fiddle. Raq is trusting to a fault. Caro is a big liar and I roll my eyes all the times she tries to break up w Damien. I believe that is her appeal to him, makes him feel like King Kong each times he breaks her resolve with hot sex.

Did I thank the commenters? Your contributions are ALL insightful and funny.
