Chapter
61: Obstacles
Just
the facts tonight due to time constraints and playback issues.
Cinthia
called Santiago about Mia while he looked for Raquel. He did not
tell her that Raquel was missing while she told him little about Mia,
only that she was worried about her and that Mia needed Raquel.
Raquel's
female captor gave her tea and offered her something to eat while
Raquel frantically looked for her cell phone so she could call
Santiago. The phone was not in her purse and was most likely in the
hands of her captors. Raquel wanted to get outside to get some fresh
air but the woman stopped her, telling her it was too dangerous for
her to go out. She tried to tell her that she would take care of her
while her husband was trying to contact her friends.
Bebo
went over to the Álvarado house and Mia asked him to accompany her
to the doctor's office. She had an appointment for an abortion. He
asked whether she was sure that this is was what she wanted to do and
she told him it was. She would not allow him to try to talk her out
of it. The neighbor came over to babysit Benjamín and the two left.
Neither noticed that Juan was just outside in his car, staring at
them as they went to Lola's car. His blood was boiling when he saw
Bebo stroke Lola's arm and the two of them walking toward the car
with their arms around each other's waists.
Rueda
told Miriam that enlisting Laura's help was a bad idea. She told him
she was doing the job he should have been doing regarding getting
information about the enemy. He told her that he had already met
with Santiago's lawyer and made a deal with her, money in exchange
for losing the case. Miriam's tone of voice said didn't quite
believe this, but Rueda told her that he had her agreement provided
that he pay her in cash in advance. She was still not convinced and
insisted upon meeting Alina in person. Rueda didn't think this was a
good idea, but Miriam told him to describe her as very distrusting
and wanting assurances that this arrangement will work as described
to her. Her comment also pointed to her lack of perfect trust in
Rueda himself, that she thought that he and Alina would try to
swindle her.
Danny
argued with Federico about Fede's concealment of his identity as the
Boss's Son. He was very put out by this, accusing him of spying on
the workers. Federico told him that this was specifically so that he
would not get “special treatment” (even brown-nosing) for that.
He also reminded Danny that he wasn't ratting him out on having Luz
punch his time card for him or for the pasta he stole. All he was
looking for was a normal life and no special privileges for having
been born the Boss's Son or being judged for his sexual preferences.
Danny asked for another chance, but Federico started to shut him
down. Someone called him over and he left. Luz then told Danny –
and not for the first time – to forget about Federico. “I'm
trying,” he said.
Nicolás
brought some papers in to Alina's office. She appeared to ignore him
until he asked if there was anything she needed him to do. She told
him she was preparing the case for Lola to assume custody of
Benjamín. She asked whether he trusted her and he said he did. She
told him to make sure Lola had all the right answers to the
questions, then dismissed him. He left for the day. Whether she or
not she has any conscience about this remains to be seen.
Santiago
and Carolina put Benjamín to bed and talked, then argued, about
Santiago making Nacho godfather of Benjamín. The issue came up
about choosing Damián por interès. Carolina said it was
logiical that Nacho expected to be asked because he was godfather to
Nicolás. Santiago was offended. He accused Carolina of having no
confidence in him and having to work harder for her attention. He
wanted to be around people who had confidence in him. He walked out
of the bedroom.
Raquel's
doctor paid a house call to Damián about Raquel's recent
disassociative episode. He did not expect it to get worse, but said
that Raquel needed rest. Damián thanked him and saw him to the
door.
Santiago
went over bills and invoices. Carolina came into the office to
apologise to him. He was worried about whether the houses he was
building would sell and Carolina told him they would. She had total
confidence in him. He got up and said he had to stop by the Becker
house. Augustin arrived just as he was leaving. Augustin was
concerned at the possibility that once Santiago's ship came in that
he and Carolina would only want to be on the lido deck rather than in
the hold. Santiago told him that was nonsense.
Nicolás
visited Federico, who was upset at the turmoil in his house. He was
worried about Raquel and also certain that Damián was not telling
him the entire truth. He didn't really want to talk about it except
to say – in response to Nico's question – that this was not why
Mia was out of it.
Carolina
went to the Legato offices and had her first encounter with Miriam.
“Finally
we see each other in the flesh,” Miriam said, showing clear
displeasure
“It's
a pleasure, Ma'am,” said Carolina, not wanting a fight
“How
do you have the gall to come here?"
“Because
Damián asked me to; we have to talk.”
“You
have no dignity. You lost that when you got into bed with my son.
Or before, I don't know.”
“I
don't have to tolerate you talking to me like this.”
“What
if your husband found out you were here?”
“Then
he doesn't know you are Damián's lover. How easy is it to be
anonymous.”
“Say
what you want.”
“What
I want is for you to leave Damián alone. Forget about him.” She
looked at the infant Benjamín. “I'd rather see him dead than
with you.”
She
walked away, knowing that her last words frightened Carolina. Damián
appeared, kissed her on the cheek and indicated to her to enter his
office. He closed the door and commentted on the baby's size.
Carolina asked him why he had sent Azucena to her home and he told
her he wanted to make sure that Benjamín was provided for, as were
his other children. She told him that was not necessary and asked
who else knew about this. He had her sit down, then began explaining
Raquel's condition to her. Carolina then told him that she had just
encountered his mother who had every intention of telling Santiago.
Santiago
was at the Becker house where Jovita told him that Raquel was in her
room and unlikely to want to see anyone.
Laura
was preparing to go on the air when she had severe abdominal pain.
She got her assistant to hand her purse to her so she could take her
pills. She said she would be ready in two minutes. Her boss [whose
name we all seem to have forgotten] was being his usual dictatorial
self.
Carolina
told Damián about Miriam's comments and attitude. Damián told her
he would handle his mother. There was also Raquel to think about and
again he told Carolina not to worry about it. But that wasn't going
to stop her worrying. He was also unwilling for them to stop seeing
each other. This was not the only reason he wanted to talk to her
because there was the issue of the catering business. Raquel was not
in any condition to be in charge and she was not either. Since the
business could not run itself without the two of them Damián
suggested they sell it. It was doing well and he thought they could
get a good price for it. She wasn't sure what to do. He suggested
that it was a good excuse for them to remain in contact.
Santiago
went up to see Raquel, who told him she felt trapped.
The
downside of selling the catering business was that it was also
important to Raquel. Carolina was not sure she would be able to do
it alone in view of her family responsibilities. Damián told her
she wouldn't have to spend all her time at work; they could work
something out. Jovita called, telling Damián that Raquel was not
well. He told her he would be right home.
Antonio
produced a search warrant for the Álvarado house. Fernando looked
resigned to duty.
Lola
didn't have enough money for the procedure. Bebo gave her what he
had on him but it seems that she didn't have the abortion yet. She
told him she had to get some papers in order and they left together.
Juan was right behind them. They should have sensed his presence.
Azucena
entered Andres' office to tell him there was a man on line three who
insisted upon speaking with him, but would not identify himself.
Only that he had information about Raquel. Andres told her to put
him through. The man identified himself as “Omar” and said he
had Raquel.
The
police arrived at the Álvarado house with the warrant to search for
the pistol that allegedly had belonged to Santiago's father. The case
in which it had been kept was empty. This meant that Santiago is now
suspected of having killed Carolina.
Santiago
ran around the neighborhood near the hotel shouting Raquel's name.
Lola
began to panic. The police left. She handed Benjamín to Beto and
called Nicolás. He told her to call their father while he told
Alina about this. Nacho arrived during this conversation. When Lola
ended the call she demanded that Nacho tell her where her father was.
Omar
gave directions to Andres where to meet him with the ransom money.
Andres told him he would be there and warned him that if he was near
a certain person he was to be extremely careful “because he is very
dangerous.” They ended the call and Andres yelled to Azucena to
locate Santiago. When she went to do so he called Cinthia and asked
to speak to Raquel. Cinthia told him that Raquel was asleep in her
room and that the doctor said she was not to be disturbed. He told
her that Raquel was to call him when she woke up; it was very
important. He yelled for Azucena who told him she could not reach
Santiago, as he did not answer his cell phone. She called his house
and was told that he was on a business trip. Andres concluded that
Santiago and Raquel were together. He asked how much money was in
the safe; he needed twenty thousand pesos ($1,062.32 US, as of
today).
Santiago
was showing a photo of Raquel to people in the area and a young man
told him he had seen her in the company of a local man. He didn't
know the man's name but knew where he lived. They went off in
pursuit.
Nacho
and Cinthia spoke on the phone. When Cinthia asked why he was at the
Álvarado house he said it was about work. Bebo was unable to reach
Santiago. Nacho went out to look again.
Raquel
wanted to leave, telling her captors she felt alright and wanted to
go home. They did not allow her to leave. Omar told her he had
spoken with her family and that they would come for her. She wanted
to go get some fresh air after being cooped up in an unfamiliar
place. When they would not let her out she got suspicious.
Somehow
Rueda heard about the search and the gun and told Andres. This
situation suited them perfectly because of their anticipated outcome.
Santiago
and the young man arrived at Omar's front door. Raquel looked as
though she would collapse. Omar's wife brought the pills out of
Raquel's handbag. Santiago was knocking on the door, saying he was
looking for someone who had gotten lost.

Miriam’s comment to Carolina about rather seeing Damian dead than with her on the suspect list. However, hypothetically speaking if she is the culprit she couldn’t have done it alone and why did whoever killed Carolina not kill Damian with the gun as well? Why the shovel?
I was surprised to see Alina act indifferent and uninterested towards Nico. Usually she is the one wanting to roll in hay and Nico seemed like he was waiting for her to initiate it.
Raquel’s breakdown in the past almost seems to prove why Mia is the way she is. Mental illness runs in the family.
Unfortunately it looks like Santiago is headed to jail and essentially taking Nacho’s place. I hate Andres.

Miriam has made this "I'd rather see him dead than..." statement before. She also tried to kill Damian in the hospital and there were many witnesses to that. I agree that she wouldn't have acted alone. While she is sufficiently intelligent to be a mastermind she would not risk the physical aspects of taking such action. Andres is her most likely accomplice and that is only because he is intelligent enough to have initially hidden his theft and embezzlement which he now attributes to Damian spending lavishly on Carolina.
Which Damian didn't really do except for those red FM shoes and the love nest, which doesn't look all that large. No diamonds, no designer wardrobe, no European vacations, no cars. After running the pasta factory successfully for 20 years he's had time to accumulate enough money for that.
Damian can't contradict Andres because he's in a coma so Miriam believes him.
Where is the nearest forensic accountant?
I wasn't prepared to predict whether Lola would have the abortion or not. However, the plot will thicken if she doesn't before Juan finds out she is pregnant, which is probably why it didn't happen. When he finds out Lola's life will be a living hell. Only death will rid her of him because his mother can't control him and unless she reports him the law can't touch him.... not that it wants to. Bebo should also have him arrested for the attempted murder. I expect there will be a repeat performance of that tonight.
Either way when the wrong people find out this will be exactly the kind of dirt Miriam needs to take Benjamin away from Santiago.

UA: I'm not surprised the Latina Mrs. Robinson ignored Nico at all. It's like their escapades never even happened.
I'm NOT shocked Andres is still upping the ante in manipulating Raquel by causing her to get a mental breakdown from other people.

The whole Raquel kidnapping thing has thrown the show off the rails for me. It seems too implausible. I mean these people would suddenly say "let's ransom off this woman because she's been on the news"? Maybe not quite a "jump the shark" moment but a little close.

Urban--Nicely covered. Thank you. I've been out all day and just got home. I was surprised to see Jardinera's recap up and saw it was a duplicate. I messed it up trying to fix it and hope we can get her to repost it. It was fun to have two versions, but not twice the work.
Does anyone know where I might stream CET commercial free. I can't deal with all the commercials on Unimas/Uninovelas/Univision Now. I thought it would be On Demand via AT&T U-Verse, but no such luck.
Even though there doesn't seem to be a lot of people posting, I've read that it is well worth watching.
