[Previously: As Tulio
kneels in front of Imelda, she tells him that she forced her ideas on them without realizing the harm she was
doing. In a way, Tulio was right when he said the family would have been better
off without her. Imelda is very proud of all of her children for forging on
ahead in spite of her. Tulio will always be her son until the day she dies. After
Imelda tells Tulio that he needs her forgiveness and she needs his forgiveness,
she tells him that the only one who is really going to forgive them both is God.]
In the carpentry shop,
Gabriel shows Dave the long-legged spider, one of the first of Dani’s toy collection. When Dave just looks at
it, Dani comes over and asks if he doesn’t like it. Gabriel comments that of
course he likes it since it was made by experts, but Dani knows something is
wrong and assumes that Dave is worried about Julieta…which he confirms. When
Dani assures him that he and his little sibling will be fine, Dave agrees
though everyone else says it won’t be fine…and because when the baby arrives
everyone will forget about him. After Gabriel asks why he thinks that, Dave
explains that the baby will be born from Julieta and he wasn’t…and the baby
won’t have my scars. Dani sits Dave on her lap and tells him that the baby was
not chosen because he was special; the baby was the one that came like in a
raffle. She then tells Dave that he was chosen from among all the children...Robert and Julieta met him and knew he was the best. Dani then shares that she
always felt different from the rest; and Gabriel agrees that is true and yet he
chose her among all the women…because she is the best, even with her crewcut/hair. Gabriel adds that the only thing Dave has to do is allow himself
to be loved. Dani interjects that he also needs to consider that Robert and
Julieta love him; and they will love him for the rest of their lives.
Arriving at Julieta’s
apartment, Catalina tells Julieta that she will be taking good care of her; and
Blanca emphasizes that THEY will take good care of her. When Catalina mentions
that she will make Julieta something delicious to eat, Blanca suggests that
hotdogs are not the ideal meal for Julieta. After Catalina comments that mole
isn’t ideal either, Julieta thanks them both, but what she doesn’t need right
now is an argument between in-laws. Once Julieta rushes into her apartment, the
two ladies follow and try to convince her, but as Julieta tells them that she
appreciates everything they want to do for them, Robert interjects that he and
Julieta will ask for their help when they want it. Julieta agrees and just
wants some space. Catalina then tells Blanca that though she is starting to
like her more, she still finds it strange that Blanca continues to refer to Julieta
as ‘daughter.’ Julieta comments that it appears they heard nothing of what she
said, so Robert reminds them that Julieta needs to have peace and quiet. Blanca
assures Robert that they will cooperate; and Catalina agrees, especially now
that they are ‘friendsies.’ When Robert suggests that he will take Julieta to
lie down, Blanca and Catalina jump to offer to take her; so Julieta wants to
redefine what complete bedrest means. Blanca knows it means to be in bed all
day long, but when Catalina thinks maybe having her use a wheelchair, Blanca
thinks that is a very good idea. When they suggest a motorized wheel chair,
Julieta tells them they should not exaggerate, but it would be a good idea to
have the doctor talk. Robert take the cue and tells them that Julieta will need
to sleep more than 8 hours, rest when her body requires it, be very relaxed,
and do some moderate exercises…carefully. Julieta points out to the ladies that
she will not have to be in bed all day, but Catalina thinks it’s best as a
prevention…and by the way, they will have dinner there today to say farewell to
Bruno. Julie agrees as long as Catalina promises not to engage in her dramas or
fill her house with tears. Catalina then starts to pout as she complains about
how her daughter treats her. When she cries that she wishes there had been a
guide on how to be a mother, Blanca adds that she would have bought one too. Julieta
thinks it’s enough drama and asks Catalina to tell Hugo and Diana about the
dinner. As Robert goes to the basement to tell Dave that they are back, Julieta
starts to go to her bedroom. As the ladies grab her arms to guide her, Julieta
reminds them that she does need care, but she is not a child. Catalina and
Blanca wholeheartedly agree, but when Julieta resumes going to her bedroom, the
ladies continue to hover and grab her arms to guide her.
In the carpentry shop,
Robert assures Dave that Julieta is fine, but they will need to take good care
of her because she can’t over exert herself, lift things, or move too much.
When Dave asks if he can still call them mother and father after the baby is
born, Robert assures him that he can…more than anyone; Dave is their first son
and that is very important. After Dani asks Dave if he knows what costume he
will wear the next day and Gabriel explains that tomorrow will be their bachelor/ette
party, Robert tells them they will definitely be there. Dave wants to know if
he can dress up however he wants; so Gabriel assures him he can…well except as
a rat because he is scared to death of rats. They all laugh as Robert mimics a
rat.
In the Córsega kitchen,
Imelda wonders what costume she could wear, so Frida suggests a hen outfit
because Imelda is always saying she is a hen and always likes to have her
chicks close to her. Imelda laughs and thinks she needs to be more careful with
what she says from now on, but since she is a mother hen, she wants all her
chicks to stay home for the day because she is going to make a special dinner.
Blanca thinks it’s a good idea so they can celebrate that Julieta’s surgery was
a success. After Imelda comments that there will be another Córsega arriving in
the world, Blanca remarks that they all need to cooperate so that Julieta will
be in peace…she asks Linda if she heard. Linda wonders why she is being singled
out so Frida responds, “Gee, I wonder why!” Blanca then advises Linda that
there will be a farewell dinner for Bruno…and she already found out that they
were more than neighbors.
In Julieta’s bedroom,
Catalina caters to Julieta as Dave walks in. After she gets a hug from Dave and
tells him she missed him, he tells her he missed her very much too and that he
fulfilled his promise of being brave and continuing to be together. When he
asks if she is feeling better, Julieta tells him she feels better now that he
is there. Julieta looks at Dave and notices he is upset. When she asks if he is
okay, he quickly tells her he isn’t and runs off. When Julieta comments that
Dave is worried because of the arrival of the baby, Catalina responds that it
is normal...the arrival of a baby brings about jealousies. Julieta tells
Catalina that her comments don’t help, but Catalina insists that it is only the
truth. She shares that Hugo was very jealous when Julieta arrived; he’d make
such faces when Catalina bought Julieta toys…she thought he was going to eat
her alive. When Catalina reminds Julieta about Hugo tearing her dolls’ clothes,
Julieta remembers, but adds that Catalina should be helping her, not worrying
her more. Catalina continues that children will fight…Julieta and her brothers
would fight all around the house. Julieta then tells Catalina that she is going
to count to seven and when she finishes, Catalina needs to change the subject.
Catalina quickly talks as she tries to say as much as possible; and when
Julieta gets to seven, she covers her mouth. Julieta laughs and groans in pain,
so she tells Catalina not to make her laugh anymore.
At
Night—
At the Córsega’s,
everyone sits at the table as Imelda tells them that the special dinner serves
for many purposes. First, Audifaz finished writing his excellent book. Audifaz
is somewhat stunned, but humbled. Eugenio comments how Audifaz had kept it a
secret and congratulates him as they toast. Secondly, Imelda wants to celebrate
the miracle that Julieta is expecting a baby. And third, Imelda asks that they
be understanding because her voice as a mother tells her she is doing the right
thing…she turns and says, “Come in, son.” Everyone watches as Tulio walks in.
As they glare, Imelda continues, “Life is too short and resentments cause much
harm. I implore that you allow Tulio to have dinner with us tonight.” Eugenio
starts to complain, but Imelda reminds him that Tulio is his brother...and he
is truly remorseful. Tulio then speaks, “Blanca, brother, I do not ask that you
accept me. I know I did you much harm and I am truly ashamed about that. You
will decide if, some day, you can forgive me.” When Tulio sees everyone’s uncomfortable
looks, he turns around to leave, but Imelda pulls him back and holds his hand.
She tells the family, “I only ask that you accept him this night. On this
night, his being at the table is very important to me…to have my three sons at
the table eating with me.
At Julieta’s, Robert and
Julieta sit at the table with Dave as Robert promises Dave that nothing will
change. When Robert asks him if he believes in him, Dave doesn’t know; he is
very scared. He knows he isn’t going to be the same as everyone else; and the
baby is going to be brand new and isn’t going to be like me. Robert reminds him
that he is special, but Dave doesn’t want to be special; he wants to be like
all the other children. Robert then tells him to breathe deeply, but Dave
doesn’t want to do that anymore. When he cries and asks why he had to get
burned, Robert reminds him of what he has told him before—accidents can happen
to anyone. Julieta adds that the four of them will be together—to support each
other and love each other…because they are a family. Dave points out that he
has two mothers and two fathers, but the baby will only have them as parents.
Julieta assures him that will not change what they feel for him. When Robert
adds that when the baby is born, Dave will love him very much, Dave gets up to
leave and tells them he doesn’t want any siblings. After he runs off, Robert
and Julieta look at each other in dismay.
At the Córsega’s, Tulio
sits by Imelda as she announces the fourth reason for the dinner: it’s for
Blanca. When Blanca wonders why, Imelda explains that when her mother died, she
gave her (this) ring which was a symbol that Imelda would continue as the head
of the home…her grandmother wore it, as well as her great-grandmother… and on
down the generations. It is an honor to have it. Blanca has been more than a
daughter to Imelda. Blanca has taken care of her, protected her…she has given
Imelda wonderful grandchildren. When Imelda continues that one must know when
to step aside and allow others to take their place, Blanca stands and approaches
Imelda as she tells Imelda that she is irreplaceable. Imelda promised herself
that when she saw her sons follow their own paths, she would step aside.
Audifaz shall continue writing his dream; Tulio must reorganize his life; and
Eugenio is the best baker in all of Oaxaca. Imelda turns to Blanca and tells
her that she is now the head of this house. As she puts the ring on Blanca’s
finger, she tells her that is why she wants to give her the ring as a symbol of
how much she loves her and trusts her. As everyone claps, Blanca cries. After
Audifaz quotes Heráclito de Efeso: Everything changes, nothing is… everyone
raises their glasses and toast.
In Dave’s bedroom, Dave
tells Robert that they will get tired of him. Robert assures him they won’t and
tells Dave never to say that again. They love him and he is now their son.
Catalina then enters and says she heard there was a superhero there who is
crying. She gets on the bed and hugs him telling him to come with his
grandmother. She tells Robert that Hugo, Diana and Bruno will be arriving
shortly so she will stay with Dave to talk to him for a while. After Robert
leaves, Catalina asks the superhero why he cries and caresses his face.
Meanwhile, Robert goes to Julieta who doesn’t like to see Dave like that…especially
for a reason that is not true. Robert tells her they need to be very patient,
loving and understanding of Dave so he won’t feel out of place because of the
baby. As he adds that Julieta needs to be completely calm, Bruno, Hugo and
Diana arrive. When Julieta tells them she isn’t doing well and Robert adds that
there is a problem with Dave, Hugo guesses that Dave is jealous because of the
baby. This surprises Julieta, but Hugo reminds her that he felt the same way
before she was born…and Julieta was even worse when she found out Bruno was
going to be born. When Julieta comments that they aren’t making her feel
better, Diana suggests they change the subject, so Hugo announces that
‘Galletitas Tornado’ (Tornado Cookies) is a complete success and that is why he
is going to pay them all his debt. Julieta and Robert are pleasantly surprised,
so Diana adds that they can now buy their own home.
In the bedroom, Catalina
tells Dave that no one is going to leave him; he shouldn’t be afraid…her
daughter and Robert adopted him because they love him very much. When he asks
if she thinks they will prefer the new baby, Catalina reminds him that he has
already met everyone in her family. She assures him that she doesn’t love one
more than the other since each one has their own personality, but she loves
them all the same. She shares that when Bruno was going to be born, Julieta was
very angry and would lock herself up in her room and listen to music at the
highest volume. Robert opens the door and listens as Catalina continues that
Julieta was afraid of Bruno’s coming, but that when he arrived, she was the
first one to take care of him—she would carry him and give him so many kisses.
Dave quickly interjects. “Like his mother!” Catalina tells him that is exactly
how it was. When she asks Dave who he loves more, Robert or Julieta, Dave
responds that he loves both, so Catalina points out that is how he will love
his little brother or sister. Catalina then asks for a big hug and promises
Dave that no one will abandon him. Robert enters smiling and tells Dave that he
would never lie to him or hurt him. As long as they live, they will be with
him; and he will be the best example for his brother or sister. Robert then
asks for a hug and tells Dave he loves him so much.
At the dinner table,
Diana asks Bruno how he feels taking such a huge step forward; so Bruno relies
that he is nervous. When Robert points out that he will be studying something
he enjoys, Bruno agrees and jokingly adds that neither Hugo nor Julieta will be
breaking his robots. Hugo interjects that Bruno should get over it since it was
so many years ago; and Julieta adds that it wasn’t even a robot; it was a
racing car. Hugo then gets serious and tells Bruno, “I’m going to miss you. I
know I never say these things, but…I love you.” As they hug, Catalina cries,
then gets up and hugs Bruno telling him, “May God grant all you dreams…You have
to call me every day to tell me everything …and send me pictures and videos. I
will keep track of everything you do on ‘Face’. ” Everyone gets up and joins in
a group hug.
The
Next day—
Outside the Córsega
building, Bruno has his luggage put in a taxi as he thanks Linda for accepting
to be the last one to say good-bye to him. Linda tells him that she is in
charge of the “Farewell to Singles” today so she should be able to handle this
farewell. When Bruno tells her he will think of her often, Linda replies, “I
will think of you a lot too, but I don’t want to live with false hopes, Bruno,
You might decide to live your whole life in Europe; and you know I waited for
you a long, but I can’t anymore.” He responds, “Take care of yourself; and
search for that career you dream of…” He starts to walk away, but can’t leave
without one last embrace.
As the taxi drives away,
Linda cries and falls to her knees. Just then, Robert comes out of the building
and sees her in despair, so he kneels behind her and embraces her as she
continues to sob.
Later at the Córsega
living room, Dani and Gabriel leap in to find no one there. After Dani tells
Gabriel that maybe Linda forgot to tell everyone, the families come out from
the kitchen shouting in joy.
Gabriel didn’t think
everyone would dress up; he tells Imelda she looks spectacular! Imelda agrees
that she looks pretty…and that’s because he didn’t see her when she was in her
preteens…she was beautiful and perfect! Everyone in the community was crazy
about her and brought her gifts. After Eugenio comments that Imelda has shared
enough, Augusto suggests they continue with the party. Clarissa then starts
mentioning flowers for the wedding and other details including that the food
shouldn’t be provided by Dani’s family. Blanca interrupts and asks if there is
something wrong with her food. Linda interjects that her mother’s food is the
best in Oaxaca, but when Mari tells them their bakery is the most famous in the
community, Clarissa points out that is the problem—it is only the best in the
‘community’…a wedding should be super-monumental! When Imelda gets frustrated and
threatens to spank Clarissa, Amalia supports her because these little ones (the
Hermonsters) need to be re-educated. Augusto tries to calm Clarissa; and Enzo
and Belén try to stop Amalia, but Amalia thinks these two little girls are
being imprudent. When Audifaz’s family gets into it, Julieta and Robert tell
them they shouldn’t be fighting. They need to remain calm, this should be a
joyous day for everyone. Dani asks they only concentrate on the party, so
Clarissa agrees, but this truce will not last forever.
Robert follows Julieta
who goes to sit at the table. He worries about her, but she tells him she is
fine. Julieta noticed that Robert got nervous and anxious, so Robert tells her
there is so many people, clowns, lions…he is worried and just want to be
cautious. Julieta assures him that she is relaxed and rested…nothing bad will
happen by being at a party.
In the living room,
everyone starts dancing and swaying to the music. When Clarissa shrieks and
complains about the music, Blanca tells her that it is the traditional music of
city. Clarissa and Cassandra starts whining and complaining about the about the
music that will be played at the wedding, so Gabriel goes to them and tells not
to start up again. Gabriel asks Augusto for support since he doesn’t want
arguments. Augusto agrees, but the Hermonsters refuse to dance.
At Catalina’s house, Hugo
tells Diana that things are going well for them. Diana agrees and thinks that
if the business continues to grow, they will have to buy an oven and rent a
place to sell the cookies. When Hugo looks at the time, he thinks the cookies
need their time, but so do they. Hugo wishes his mother won’t return, but Diana
reminds him that they are in her home. She suggests he get to it so they can
look for a place to rent for themselves. Hugo puts the cookies to a side and
goes to grab Diana. He picks her up to the counter and they get to their own personal
cookin’.
At the party, Robert
gives his speech about the wedding couple. He states that right now they are in
disguise, but the truth is that Dani and Gabriel learned to love each other
without any disguises…just like they are. That is when true love comes to be.
His advice is to continue as they are—authentic and without masks, because that
will be the success of their relationship. When Robert continues that after
this day, they should enjoy the days prior to their wedding, Linda interjects, “that
is if they can overcome the stress of the preparations,” as Mari pinches her.
Clarissa then adds that she never thought Linda would understand her, but
Augusto interrupts her and Gabriel asks her not to continue. Cassandra supports
her sister because Linda started it. Linda snaps back and even Frida adds that
the Hermonsters are hateful. Blanca tells them to stop, they shouldn’t be
fighting, so Dani tells Robert to continue. Robert continues that the important
thing is that the whole family is gathered together because they love Dani and
Gabriel and they want them to be very happy. Linda again interrupts and tells
Robert not to forget that there will be games and a prize for the best costume.
After everyone shouts, Dani tells Robert that nothing makes her happier than to
have him there. There was no happiness in their home without him…that is why
Robert’s and her history are so united. Robert thanks her and wants her to be
happy. He knows all that she suffered when he was far away. Dani thanks God for
helping him find his path the led him home. If Robert hadn’t arrived to live
here with Julieta, none of this would be happening. When Julieta adds that it
is destiny, Dani agrees and thanks Julieta for bringing her prize into her
life. Julieta knew they would always make a nice couple…although she does think
Dani is a saint to put up with Gabriel. When Gabriel comments about Julieta’s
statement, everyone chimes in about how ‘special’ Julieta is…they tried to
change her, but they never could. Gabriel then remarks that he and Dani are
also happy to see the family so happy and united…with Dave and two babies on
the way. Robert then announces, “Let the games begin!”
After the games, Robert
announces that it is time to name the winner of best costume; however, whoever
wins must act out a small performance. Robert then announces that there is a
tie between…Frida and Dave! After everyone shouts and claps, Augusto interrupts
and says that the games have been fun, but the purpose of the party is to
celebrate the marriage between his son and Dani…and nothing is ready. Clarissa
adds that is super right! After she rolls out a list of pending activities,
Cassandra points out there are thousands of pending items. When Augusto tells
them that he has dozens of officials, businessmen, politicians and artists
invited to the wedding and he will not allow his name to be ridiculed, Eugenio
stands up and questions how Augusto can think that they would ridicule them.
Augusto denies the assumption and is only asking that his son’s wedding not be turned
into a costume contest. When Augusto continues that the Córsega’s invited
guests are not of the same class as his, Eugenio heatedly declares that is an
even more offensive statement and he will not allow it! Imelda reminds Augusto
that he is in their home and demands respect. Blanca thinks they will never
come to an agreement with Gabriel’s family; and Augusto agrees; so he suggests
to the ‘osos’ that they have two weddings. Dani and Gabriel both look like they
want to hide under a rock!!
Gabriel remarks that they
can’t organize one wedding, and Augusto is thinking of two…they have too many
requests, so Gabriel has a better idea. After he looks at Dani and she nods, he
announces that the wedding will be cancelled! Everyone shrieks and complains,
so Dani adds that they are not thinking of what she and Gabriel want for their
wedding; they are only thinking of what they want. Imelda starts to complain
that everyone has been invited, so Dani insists that they will just have to let
everyone know that it was cancelled. Blanca and Augusto try to plead with Dani
and Gabriel, but they stand their ground because the families have been acting
like that for weeks. The important thing is that he and Dani be together…so on
some sunny day that they choose, they will go to the civil registrar and get
married. Dani stands up and thanks every one for coming to the party…if anyone
would like to attend their civil ceremony, they are cordially invited. As
everyone complains and points fingers, Dani and Gabriel leave. Julieta yells
out, so everyone quiets down as Julieta tells them that Dani and Gabriel have
every reason to do what they did…but she has an idea.
At their apartment,
Robert and Julieta talk to Dani and Gabriel. Julieta understands that getting
along with in-laws is very complicated, but they need to remain calm. Dani
insists that they are like cannons; they won’t be happy with anything. Julieta
knows that tends to happen; that is why she had to remain steadfast with her
own wedding. Gabriel understands, but points out that the two families are
completely opposites. Robert thinks the important thing is that they don’t let
things get to them…or it will affect everything. Julieta emphasizes that the
connection Dani and Gabriel have should not be broken. She knows they said they
would just choose a day and quickly get married, but she would like to know
what they would have liked their wedding to be like. Dani describes that she
would like a beautiful wedding, but simple and without too many people. Gabriel
adds that they had decided on a church ceremony, but not a huge church…more
like a chapel…something intimate. Dani would like good food, but not a grand
banquet with mixtures of exotic foods…and with more casual dress…without a
thousand photographs and hundreds of videos. Gabriel summarizes that they want
a private wedding with just their loved ones.
At
Night—
In bed, Robert worries
that things may be too much for Julieta; she should remain relaxed. Julieta
agrees; that is why she is knitting the biggest blanket in the world; but she
can organize everything from their home and tell Luz, Marisol and Linda to help
her with everything. Robert can’t believe Julieta is going to ask Linda for
help, but Julieta shares that she and Linda tolerate each other better now…and
she knows Linda is going through a hard time because of Bruno’s departure.
Since Robert knows he won’t convince Julieta otherwise, he will also help out.
Julieta is glad; they will plan the first surprise wedding in history. As they
kiss, Dave enters and crawls into bed with them. When he asks if they know if
the baby will be a girl or boy, Robert reminds him that it will be a surprise.
Dave tells them he already has some names and shows them his list. They laugh
as Robert thinks Dave is very good at coming up with suggestions. When Robert
comments that Dave seems to be more like a Córsega, Dave wonders if that is
good or bad. They discuss the names which are not really people’s names, so
Dave has come up with ‘Davida,’ but Julieta suggests he help them prepare for a
secret wedding instead.
Days
Afterwards—
Gabriel enters the
carpentry shop and tells Dani that something suspicious is happening because
the Córsega building seems like a ghostly place now since no one seems to be
around…even the bakery is closed. Just then Robert arrives and tells them that
Julieta wants them to accompany him to a place…the chief, Julieta, is waiting
for them there. When Dani wants to know what place, Robert tells her she can’t
ask questions…plus, Julieta ordered that they go blindfolded. Gabriel wonders
why, so Robert reminds him, “No questions.” Robert puts the blindfolds on them
and leads them out.
Somewhere in front of a
chapel, Dani and Gabriel complain as Robert leads them. Dani asks if Julieta is
there; so Robert tells her she just arrived. They can take off their blindfolds
at the count of three. At ‘three,’ Dani and Gabriel remove their blindfolds to
see Julieta all dressed up and look around. When Dani asks what this is all
about, Julieta welcomes them to their wedding. To say that Dani and Gabriel are
stunned would be putting it mildly…
