Mi marido tiene familia Friday 1/12/18 Gran Final #2 Capitulo 102: Not Quite Happily Ever After . . . To Be Continued

Well, this is my last recap for MMTF and I am going to thank someone I have not ever thanked before: I want to thank Juan Osorio for bringing us such a heartwarming story in such an excellent production. It quickly has become one of my all time favorites. I cannot wait until the next season.

Next, I want to thank you, RgvChick, for joining me in recapping this story along with your EdR recapping. It was a pleasure working with you. We made a good team. I hope to work with you again in the future. :)

I cannot forget to thank Alfredo who got us started by posting discussion pages. His initiative made all the difference.

Finally, I want to thank you, the patio, for giving me a reason to write these recaps at all. Whether you simply read or commented once and a while or were a “regular,” your presence was noticed and valued. I always looked forward to reading the comments, opinions and interpretations expressed at our little oasis. I hope to see you on another patio very soon.

Now, back to the very last chapter in the story . . . I cannot wait to read your comments on this one . . .

After hearing the oompah-pah of the tuba one last time . . .

Julieta shows Luz a page of real estate listings. It is time to move. She feels that she and Robert need to make a life of their own. She would never do anything to stop the kids from seeing their family. Luz agrees that it is healthy to maintain a certain distance from the family. Julieta wants to be able to raise her own children without having the family giving their opinion about everything. Julieta is going to continue seeing properties. If Robert does not want to look for a house, Julieta will give him his part of the money and she will use her part of the money as a down payment. Julieta’s phone rings and it is Catalina. Catalina is upset because ungrateful Hugo and Diana are moving out and abandoning her. Julieta tells her that they have the right to have their own home. Catalina is worried about having no company. She feels worse than when Julieta’s father walked out on her. Julieta tells her she will overcome this and that she is going to grow a lot from this experience. Catalina moans that nobody understands her and hangs up.

Diana has overheard the conversation and tells Catalina not to be like that. Catalina waves her off telling Diana that she always has treated her almost like a daughter and this is how she pays her back. Diana wonders who is going to believe that. Catalina just does not know what she did to deserve a woman who is separating her from her son. Diana explains that she and Hugo are married which means that two people are generally living alone in their own house. Catalina warns her not to start acting like a ”teacher.” Hugo comes out to tell them not to fight. Hugo says the time has come for him and Diana to forge on ahead. Things are just proceeding excellently with his Tornado Cookies and Diana is doing very well with her blog. Catalina wants to hear all about the blog. Diana explains it is like a diary on the internet. It is called “How to Survive My Mother-in-law.” Catalina is curious to see what that is all about.

Julieta talks again with Robert about some properties that she found. Robert has been thinking that just in case that they move one day, it would be to their benefit to be near his family so they could help out with the baby and Dave. He knows his mother would happily do it. Julieta just does not know if she agrees. She does not like the idea of the grandparents turning into child care. He never had the idea of turning his mother into a nanny. Julieta says he sort of said so. They would have to ask her first and not force it upon her. Robert says that she offered already. They are going to come to a time when they are going to need a little help. Julieta does not want either of their mothers giving up their own lives because of them. Robert does not see that they would be giving up their lives. It is nothing that serious. Julieta just does not want her kids to be forced on any woman. They are their children and their responsibility. Robert says they just had their baby and he does not want to fight over something like this. Julieta sees it as just thinking about their children. She asks Robert if he does not think she has given in enough? Does he not think that the time has come to make their own home a priority? She just leaves him thinking all by himself.

Robert brings up the topic with Tavo. Does Tavo see him as the bad guy? His parents are at that age . . . Tavo finishes his thought saying that Robert is afraid of leaving them alone. Tavo continues that Robert is not going to just disappear if he moves out. He is still going to be seeing them. Robert is not his parent’s parent. They have a life of their own and can go on on their own. Robert doesn’t know how his grandmother or parents are going to take it. Tavo just shakes his head.

Robert surprises Julieta at work with the kids. He has come on by so they can go look at the houses she showed him. He has thought about what she said and it is only right that they have their own home. Julieta asks if he is serious. Dave says they are not fooling. They sit down to talk. Eventhough Robert might say she is getting ahead of herself, Julieta would love a house with a garden. Maybe Daniela and Gabriel could help them with furniture. Dave agrees to it all and Robert asks baby Blanquita what she thinks.

Later that day, Julieta and Robert break the news to Blanca, Eugenio and Imelda that they are moving. Imelda only says “Moving?” Julieta explains that her brother has paid them all of the money that he owed them and they were able to buy a house just like they had always dreamed of. Imelda sees it as just happening so quickly. Robert says they just saw the house and they think it is ideal. Imelda just shakes her head. Eugenio says that this day was going to come sooner or later. Julieta says they are just thinking of their children who are going to grow and are each going to need his/her own room. Eugenio asks if the house is far from them. Robert says no and that is what they liked the best about it. It is just a few minutes walk down the street. Eugenio breaks out into a big smile and so does Imelda. Blanca who has been silent until now sees buying their own house as a big accomplishment. Soon Imelda is complaining again asking how Blanca can celebrate an idea that takes Robert and his family away from them. Blanca explains that every couple has its dream. She is happy that Robert and Julieta are able to have their own home. Imelda wants to know how she is ever going to visit them or see them. She reminds them one more time that she only has a few years left. Blanca does not want to hear it. She adds that she can drive Imelda to see them. They were very lucky to have them living for months right across the hall but a married person wants their own house. Imelda is just going to miss them. Blanca agrees that they will all miss them but they cannot have them all of their lives right there with them. Imelda understands. Julieta brings Blanquita over to Blanca so her grandparents don’t feel so bad. Soon they are all smiling.

Gabriel has taken Daniela blindfolded to a surprise location. When he takes off her blindfold she is outside of her own store where she can showcase her toys. The sign says: “Dabriel Educational Toys”. He has her smile so they can take a selfie in front of the sign. From today on her creations are for sale in Oaxaca and very soon he hopes that they can go around the world with Dabriel. Daniela hugs him in joy and he takes her inside to tour the store. She is delighted. She always wanted people to get to see her work. Gabriel tells her that people are going to get to know it, admire it and buy it. He has a distribution network already set up. She tells him he is just extraordinary at this kind of thing. He reiterates that he has always told her that, as he points to himself, he is more than just goodlooking. Now he wants to to know if he deserves a “little loving” in return. She answers that he deserves a whole life full of a “little loving” because even though he is extraordinary in so many things, he is most extraordinary in showing her his love. They kiss.

Some time goes by and Robert has a nostalgic moment at his Córcega apartment as his family is packed up and getting ready to move out to their own home. Julieta walks in on him and asks what is going on. He turns and asks if she has said goodbye to his parents. Yes, she has and she also has invited his parents over for supper at the new house on Sunday. She asks if he is okay. He asks her to be left alone for a few minutes. He is just remembering that in spite of what they were expecting, this place gave them many things. Julieta tells him that a home is made with one’s heart. They may be moving but they are going to be the same as ever. They will create new memories with their children and themselves. Robert agrees and knows that. He thanks Julieta for being by his side. He still wants a few minutes by himself. They do their imán (magnet) thing and she leaves him alone.

Robert talks to Imelda before moving. She hopes he does not forget him. He said he never would and shows her a photo of her he has carrying in his wallet. She promises to get him a prettier one of her. Imelda is going to miss him every day. He will think of her every day. He asks for her blessing and she gives it to him.

Julieta and Robert talk to Dave as they spend their last night at the apartment building. They are all together in bed and all of them are in matching pajamas. Blanquita is in her crib. Julieta says that tomorrow is the start of the second part of their life together. Dave has them do the "imán" thing all together.

As the movers are moving their belongings into the truck, Robert and his family are outside. Robert looks longingly at his initials carved in the tree, touches them and remembers his father saying his name “Juan Pablo.” Blanca comes out followed by Eugenio with a big plate of bread for them to take to their new home. She is crying and Robert tells her that he is also upset. She just cannot stop thinking about the first day when she saw him. Robert says he knew they had an immediate connection just by the special way she looked at him. He tells her not to cry. He kisses her, hugs her and asks her not to cry. Blanca says she will always be his mother. Eugenio smiles and hugs him. He wishes Robert a home full of joy and dreams come true. He has another piece of important advice. As Eugenio glances back at Blanca, he tells Robert that in this life you have to learn how to let go and move on ahead. They both smile and Robert thanks them. Blanca reminds him he and his family will always have a home there with them. The door will always be open for them. Robert hugs them as Julieta and the kids approach. Julieta kisses Eugenio and Blanca goodbye with Blanquita in her arms. Dave gets hugged by his grandma. Robert and his family leave.

Months pass and the baby has grown. Robert has brought her over to the Córcega’s and visit her namesake Blanca. Marisol is there and visits with Robert. She is going to pick up Frida and Blanca should be home soon. Robert asks about how things are going with her and Xavi. Marisol and Xavi are very much in love but she is still having a problem finding a happy medium between being Xavi’s manager and being his girlfriend. Robert says the important thing is that she is happy. She is happy. Robert is very proud of her. Not just anybody could have achieved what she has. She thanks him. It is important for her to hear that from him. He tells her she is a great woman. Marisol says that for her, Robert has turned out to be the brother she always hoped to have. She loves him. He is the best. She is, too. Marisol leaves.

Ignacio comes to see Frida outside school to congratulate her on her good grades. She is overjoyed and runs to hug him. Marisol and Xavi are there clearly together but there is no negative reaction from Ignacio as he is focused on Frida and her achievement.

Blanquita is quite the crawler and explorer and when Robert closes his eyes for a couple of seconds, she disappears. He looks everywhere for her as she keeps snaking around room to room. Julieta arrives and they finally find her in her grandmother’s closet. Robert is almost hysterical. Julieta says it could have happened to anyone and tries to calm him down from his panicked state. She hugs him and Blanquita close to her.

Robert talks to Blanca about how she is the person that he admires the most in the world. She also admires him for all that he has had to overcome but now is not the time to be suffering. Happy endings do exist. He needs to be enjoying his children. Robert explains that he still has to work on being in constant fear of losing those he loves. Blanca reminds him to try not to pay so much attention to that fear because he is not going to lose a thing because love has already found him.

Aristóteles is in the middle of a photo shoot. An assistant tells Julieta that he is ready for the runway and that he also sings. Julieta asks if he can sing at their event and says that the girls are going to be drooling after him. He thanks her and asks if he can leave a little early. Julieta asks why and then we are taken to where Audifaz is having a book signing. He lectures the group about achieving their goals aa a happy Aristóteles and Polita look on. Audifaz introduces them to the group as the inspiration behind his work. Aristóteles tells his father that he is his idol. Everyone applauds.

Ana’s old grifter friend meets with her and thanks her for coming to see him. A smiling happy Ana tells him that their nightmare is now over. He is free and they can live their life. He missed her a lot but he did have plenty of time to plan where they should go. She tells him that she loves him from the bottom of her heart. He finally smiles and they kiss.

Julieta is all ready to get Blanquita ready for her baptism. She thinks back about her miscarriage and all she went through to get to where she is now. Dave asks why she is crying. Julieta explains she is thanking God, Robert, Blanquita and him for the life she has; because she has the best kids in the world. Dave says he has the best parents. Julieta gives him a hug. Julieta proclaims this is going to be the most beautiful day.

Hugo Sr. arrives at Catalina’s place and offers to accompany her to the baptism. After a lot of back and forth and the usual recriminations, Catalina agrees to go ”as friends”.

Blanquita is baptized outside of the church at a baptismal font with a portrait of Our Lady of Guadalupe at the side. A crowd of family and friends accompany Julieta and Robert. It looks like Daniela and Gabriel are the godparents.

Robert announces that it is party time! The celebaration is set up in the same plaza outside of the church.

Before Robert can start his celebration, Tulio approaches him and wants to talk. He says that they both have ended up with what they deserve. Robert is here happy with all of his family and he Tulio is alone. Tulio notes that he never valued what Robert was searching for. Robert says it is never too late. Tulio does not see any possibility of repairing what was broken. Robert suggests doing something to help out the family that he lost. Tulio says that is why he is here. He wants to return the money that Robert paid him to settle the debt for his grandmother. He has a check ready to give him. Tulio wants to show that what he did for his mother he really did from his heart. It is the only thing that he can do to make himself feel a little but better. Robert is reluctant to take the check. Tulio says if Robert does not want the money, then give it to his grandmother or his father for whatever they might need. The money is his. He begs him to take it. Robert says if he does take it it is only to make Tulio feel better and for his family to be calmer. Robert takes the check and starts to walk away. Tulio calls him back and asks if he can hug Robert. Robert lets Tulio give him a hug and excuses himself when he hears Julieta calling him.

Bruno has arrived.

Blanca, Eugenio, Imelda, Robert, Julieta, Dave and Blanquita are all together. Imelda is getting all morose saying now after being all together with her family at this celebration she can go peacefully. They all disagree of course. Robert wants to hear nothing like that. She has to be here to see her grandchildren and her great grandchildren grow and to be able to advise them. Julieta adds and not to scold them. They all laugh and Imelda tells Julieta that she learned to value that her husband does have a family. Julieta answers that all of them are learning to love her. They all laugh.

Bruno sneaks up behind his mother and covers her eyes with his hands. She knows who it is right away. She is overjoyed to see him. Hugo Sr. points out that Catalina knew who it was even with her eyes covered. She has missed hers on so much.

Eugenio talks to Blanca. He is on the morose side, too, (it must run in the family) telling her that if he could ask God for just one thing it would be for more time to enjoy their children, grandchildren and her. Blanca just smiles and suggests that they make a point of enjoying them more from today on. They can have more breakfasts, lunches, and dinners together. They can be together all the time possible. Eugenio adds without being intrusive or busybodies. Blanca insists that she is a different woman now. She loves him, her baker. She cannot see her life without being by his side. He surprises her by saying “I love you, my wife” in English. Blanca laughs but is impressed by his effort. Is he learning English, too? He says he would learn anything for her and kisses her hand. He loves, her more all of the time. She is the reason for him living. She is his everything. They kiss.

Bruno talks to Linda and tells her he has not stopped thinking of her. Well, that is news to Linda. He reminds her it was she who said that she didn’t want a long distance relationship. Linda tells him again that she wants a relationship with him but their relationship cannot grow if they are in two different places. Bruno thought that their love could withstand that and a lot more. Bruno has a big surprise when he hears Linda say she is paying attention to what he told her: she should be independent. Well, she is beginning to find herself and to feel just fine all alone for the first time in her life but she still loves him. He hugs her. Julieta arrives saying she has a list of requirements for Bruno . . . Anyway she has noticed that Linda and Bruno have both matured much more than she had expected and one day when Bruno returns he will have certainly much more to offer her sister-in-law Linda. Bruno hugs Julieta and Linda cuts their hugging short since there is only so much time for hugging while he is there and she wants it.

Aristóteles sings and everyone dances.

Imelda tells Blanca and Eugenio to go dance. They deserve to be happy. She will just sit and watch. She will stay where she is.

Gabriel asks Daniela when she might be ready to have some little bears of their own. She tells him not to bother her. Augusto and his two daughters appear. Augusto tells him to pay attention to Daniela amd reminds him that he made a promise to him . . . The sisters chime in with that he should not be pressuring her. They wander off.

The music (Daniela’s and Gabriel’s theme: Me gustas tú) and dancing continues. We see the Cooper’s are in town.

Xavi proposes to Marisol. She sees them being fine just as they are. He wants to spend more time together with Frida. Well, it is just because of her that Marisol thinks it is better that they wait. She reminds him of his tour through Mexico and South America is coming up and she wants to spend more time on her own as well as find a place to live for Frida and her. He says she doesn’t have to answer him right now. He just wants to make a home for her and Frida. For right now, Marisol thinks that it is better if they are both in their own homes. She asks if she angered him. He smiles and they kiss.

Dave, Frida and Aristóteles are all over Imelda. Julieta and Robert come by and they all hug amd tell each other how much they love each other. Robert amd Julieta take Dave to go dance. Frida and Aristóteles run off to dance, too, leaving Imelda alone.

Julieta tells Robert she never thought she would be so happy with what she never planned. Robert says that sometimes you have to let life surprise you. Robert tells her that he loves her with all of his soul. She insists she loves him more and never wants this happiness that she is feeling to end. The theme song is performed next with the kids and everyone singing along. All of the cast skips around and dances.

Robert amd Julieta want to make a toast to everyone: to Blanquita, Dave and all of Oaxaca (for the love and great affection that they have shown them). Everyone cheers.

Imelda yells to Robert and Julieta doing the “imán” thing. Soon the whole crowd is doing it. Robert and Julieta kiss. Julieta sees Imelda collapse out of the corner of her eye and tells Robert to go to her. Robert is hysterical as he holds Imelda and as Imelda looks at him smiling one last time and then closes her eyes. Sobbing, Robert calls for an ambulance and for help. Everyone is crying as the whole family has gathered around them and as we hear the sirens Of the ambulance arriving.

El fin. The end

*******At the end of the Mexican version it says: To be continued.*******

Thank you so much for all your splendid recaps of this excellent telenovela, Jarifa! This one was especially rewarding as the gran final. Superb as usual! Since ther's going to be a sequel, I wonder if Imelda actually died. It may depend on whether Silvia Pinal wants to be in the sequel or not. Anyway, it was one of the more convincing death scenes I have seen on tv--especially the eyes. I do wonder why Robert, an MD, didn't attempt CPR but just called for an ambulance. Were they just trying to show how upset he was? And btw, Jarifaq, please let us all know where you are going next in Telenovelaland so that we can follow you. Does Padre a toda madre appeal to you? It looks as if it may seem a little silly after a great one like Mi marido tiene familia.

Thank you, thank you, Recap Team! Outstanding job throughout the tn!

That crawling baby was awesome! I was scared she was going to go out the front door, though! What a cutie!

And, of course, it wouldn't be an Osorio project without his kid singing and dancing, but at least it was only once and it was at the end! Not mad at that.

Did Enzo and Amalia break up? He was nowhere to be seen in the finale, very obvious when the whole cast was dancing together at the end.

I did NOT like the fact that after what Ana put the family through for 34 years, she was rewarded with a happily ever after, complete with her thug boyfriend and a younger look. No bueno!

Other than that, great finale! Although I would have liked to have seen homewrecker Begonia eating her heart out at Xavi's and Marisol's success and romance.

Thanks Jarifa!!!! You and RVG have been absolutely amazing. Thank you so much!!!!

If there wasn't a second season coming i would say worst ending to a tn ever! Rob's sobbing face is what we are left with.

Why does Osorio like concerts so much? I hated the one in MCET. Plus, we have seen the group's already perform the songs in the show. I watched the Mexican version today because I thought my dvr had jumped. It hadnt but we missed some nice moments that I would have rather seen than the concerts. Like the family showing up for Audi's book signing and Tulio smiling for the first and only time.

If anyone doubted Osorio wouldn't give his kid a spotlight we know better. Luckily short.

The little girl playing Ana was so cute. She was smiling through the whole "lost" scene.

Beautiful store for Danis toys. Gabi sure does want to get started on the kids because he keeps bringing it up. I hope that is a big part of season 2.

Glad with Xavi and Mari's progress. Not moving super fast but realistic.

Linda and Bruno...meh.

We didn't get to see R and J's house. I wanted to see it.

Oh yeah the whole Anna and Julian story was awful. She admitted way back when, in the hotel, that she didn't really like him so that whole scene made no sense. Unless they plan to bring both back for season 2. She must be off her meds.

** I meant the little girl playing Blanca was super cute

Jarifa, bravo and thank you for such splendid work. And especially on this episode because I had no idea there would be a sequel. At the end, the screen just said "FIN" and I was blown away....having never seen a novella end with the death of one of the most beloved characters and the characters wrecked with sobs And in the midst of such an otherwise-happy occasion!
I too wondered why Juan Pablo/Robert didn't administer basic CPR since he's a doctor! And so frankly was left dumb founded by "FIN". So when will there be a sequel? That's definitely a different twist on the formula. Like so many of you , I too absolutely loved this story, for the most part. Ana and the thug sort of came out of the blue. And I lost the thread in the Begonia/homewrecker story. Justice was not yet served! LOVE jAVI. Hope most of the cast signed up again for the sequel and thank you for letting me know there would be one!

My worry about the second season is that there is no script to follow. This was based off of another version. I hope the writers are strong and keep with the tone off the first season. Don't hire the Ramon writers lol!!

Jarifa, thank you so much for this recap and for all the others you have done! But this one especially as it was so important and critical. AND because I lost the Univision signal last night for long minutes at a time and missed a lot. First time that has happened and it would happen at the show's finale.

For the most part this was a great, really fun episode, though I have been getting a little confused lately at some points wondering exactly how much time was passing. More than once.

I am looking forward to the second season and hoping it is as good, or nearly, as this one. And I agree with Carvivlie, "Don't hire the Ramon writers", but I'll skip the "lol".
:-)

Jarifa - Thank you for this recap, and all the recaps you have written for us!!! Millones de gracias!!! So much work and time given to us, and I appreciate you.

Watching and discussing this at the MMTF table on The Patio has been wonderful. I will miss this group.

When Marisol left Robert's place and left the door open, I feared that baby would crawl right out, and she came close. Good lesson on keeping one's eyes on the baby!

Nice to see that Icknacio is following the court orders for visitation with Frida. Most people want to do the right thing; sometimes they just have to be forced into it.

OMG, I was so shocked when Imelda died. Shocked! I tell you!!! I presume she died. No telenovela I've ever watched had someone die at the end. Especially during a festive occasion! I was going "Whaaaaaat? Where's our HEA???" Estoy alterada por eso and I cannot get it out of my mind.

Ana & Julian just came out of the woodwork for their 2-minute scene and Viewerville probably could have done without that. Eh, so what. I don't care. Though Ana looked great with softer makeup and hairstyle. I almost did not recognize Julian. Was he in jail?

It was good to see Tulio return the money to Robert.

Nice to see the Coopers in the crowd!

I keep wondering why Robert did not administer CPR, too, unless her heart was still beating?
Or maybe he read the telenovela script and knew she was supposed to die? Yeah, I'm not sure she died. I will hang on to this hope.

At least ambulances got called in this telenovela. What a move into the new millennium, instead of the old telenovelaland way where people stand around, wringing their hands, crying, and maybe dumping the person into the back seat of a cab or car.

Thank you Jarifa, that was just great! I have truly enjoyed this TN and all the back and forth with family issues. One thing I have noticed about so many Spanish language TNs is that family is ultimately important, along with a lot of love and faith in God. I noticed Julieta with her hands clasped together in prayer as they were waiting for the ambulance. It doesn't seem like Imelda had a heart attack, I think she must have had a stroke, or something going on in her brain like an aneurysm. She might be alive but needs brain surgery. I just don't think she is dead.

I sure hope they are making a 2nd season of Mi Marido. I just loved it! There is so much more that they could do with it as Robert and Julieta raise their children. I think we need to see a love 2nd time around for Catalina and Hugo Sr. and watch them fall in love all over again, realizing that they never stopped loving one another. (Hey love isn't just for the young!) I want to see more of Linda and Bruno too. We could go on and on...Gabriel's sisters need to find love too.

All in all this one was a lot of fun and I am looking forward to see when a 2nd season comes in.

Jarifa, thank you for your beautiful, vibrant, expressive, insightful words that guided us through what was an amazing story of love, of hope, and of unparalleled forgiveness.

First, it was only as you recommended this did I decide to watch. It saddens me to think how much I would have missed.

"Blanquita is quite the crawler and explorer", "... After a lot of back and forth and the usual recriminations..." and "He is on the morose side, too, (it must run in the family)" were among my favorites.

"Robert looks longingly at his initials carved in the tree, touches them and remembers his father saying his name “Juan Pablo.” In that moment, I was reminded of Robert's pain and the loss of all the years from being a child to a grown man that were lost and can never be recaptured. It was his essence and core of kindness that helped him mature and grow into the wonderful man he is today. He will forever be one of my most loved galans.

"Robert explains that he still has to work on being in constant fear of losing those he loves". His terror when Blanquita "escaped" was terrible but certainly understansable. Wise, calm Julieta was able to assuage his fears. And lovingly.

"Julieta tells Robert she never thought she would be so happy with what she never planned". Sometimes we don't know what we want. We must rely on God, and on others to show us what is not anticipated may be what we most need. I'm not sure we can always truly be happy with what life gives us, but we do have a choice on how we deal with it.

Tulio has lost everything but in the end, he may have regained a bit of conscience. Even Scrooge was able to repent, right? :)

I did not want to see Julien again. However, if he will spirit Ana away never to be seen again...

I don't know if Imelda will be back but I can't think of a better way to die than by being surrounded by your loving family. They will grieve but will remember Imelda with great love and affection. I sense Robert and Ari will be the most devastated.

Will have more to say (as the comments today were marvelous too) but first, thank you Jarifa for all your painstaking care and effort. I am joining SpanProf's plea to advise us when you will be recapping next...

To RgvChick and AAA (Alfredo) thank you for your wonderful recaps. What a team you made!

I'm so grateful.

Diana

I loved this tn and I usually do my darndest (sp?) to avoid Osorio productions, but this grabbed me from the start. I liked that it was not poor vs rich protas (well, not the main ones, we still had a little of that with Dabriel - although they really turned it around to where the "rich" family conformed to the "poorer" family's customs and celebrations instead of the other way around); I liked that the main couple STARTED out together, stayed together, and COMMUNICATED and worked through their problems. At the end, though, I feel the writers, well, didn't drop the ball, exactly, but maybe bobbled it a bit with Robert. He's an experienced, well renowned pediatric plastic surgeon, definitely not a newby. And while I totally got his hilarious panic upon his baby's birth and his freaking out when she went AWOL, I cannot understand why he didn't immediately begin CPR on his Grandmother. I agree with those who've mentioned it here. His professional instinct should've kicked in once he yelled for someone to call an ambulance. I'd hate to think that doctors can't handle medical emergencies when a family member is involved!

SpanProf, thank you for your kind words. I did’t understand about the lack of a CPR response either unless Robert was just in a state of shock himself sort of how he was sort of useless when Julieta went into labor. I am watching MMTF special right now. They did a nice job.
It is always hard watching another novela after one as good as this was but my favorite novelas are the comedies. So, I am open to watching ”Papá a toda madre” and enjoying it on its own merits. I also am a big fan of “silly” and slap-stick. Yes, I have signed up to be on that recapping team.

Anon 2:12, you are welcome. Yes, the crawling baby was the best. Robert probably would have keeled right over if she had gotten through the door.

Anon 2:32, Enzo and Amalia were together in the special playing their parts so I would say they are still together.

DonaFelipa, thank you so much. I sort of had thought that Ana was gone and never expected seeing her running off with her thuggy felon grifter of a lover. At least we know really what happened to her. I have seen no date for the start of season 2 anywhere. This started in Mexico back in June so I guess we will have to keep our eyes open to see what happens.

Carvivlie, you are welcome. It was so much fun recapping this one. Yes, that was Ana’s best look yet. I just hope she is gone for good. ITA that Xavi and Marisol’s story is very realistic. I give her credit for being extra careful because of Frida because in reality not that much time has gone by that she and Xavi are really dating.

Andy, you are welcome. I am so sorry to hear about your Univiion signal. Yesterday, my cable went out and my internet (2 separate companies) earlier in the day. I was lucky they both came back after a short time. You just cannot count on anything these days. As for the passage of time, the novela itself has not been very definite. All we get is stuff like “months later”. It has been pretty vague. I started watching Ramón but dropped it to watch this instead. Sounds like I am happy that I did.

doris, you are welcome and thank you for your kind comments. It sounds like Juiián (thanks for his name because I could not even remember it anymore and was too lazy to look for it. LOL) because Ana mentioned him being “free”. You are so right about the ambulance being called instead of “ dumping the person into the backseat of a cab or car.” I guess only time will tell whether Imelda made it or not.

One thing I have noticed about so many Spanish language TNs is that family is ultimately important, along with a lot of love and faith in God. I noticed Julieta with her hands clasped together in prayer as they were waiting for the ambulance.

Yes, that was a beautiful moment Cynthia. Thank you for mentioning it! Julieta looked almost beatific didn't she?

Diana

Meant to ensure the quote was attributed to you Cynthia.

Oh there is definitely a 2nd season in the works due to start filming in May and plans to air in Mexico in July. I'm so glad. We just cannot end with Imelda's death. She has to still be alive!

http://www.latintimes.com/mi-marido-tiene-familia-2-telenovela-sequel-juan-osorio-confirms-season-2-univision-429479

doris, it sounds like Juián was in jail . . . Reads much better.

Wow! What an episode! Guess this will be the last time I say this for a while.

What really struck me was the lingering effects of Ana’s crime on Robert and how he was still so fearful of losing those he loves and even of moving out of his newly found family home to one of his own. It was a touch of sadness I didn’t see coming

I found this episode very satisfying even with the death (?) of Imelda.

I always enjoy the musical parts of the novelas where we get to see the different songs performed by the artists. The special also had the full versions of many of the different themes we heard throughout the novela. It is nice seeing Emilio Osorio coming into his own.

That is all for now.

Cynthia, you are welcome. You are so right about the family being a major theme of most of these novelas. Thanks for bringing us up to date on the filming and debut schedule for season 2.

Diana, thank you and you are welcome. What was convinced me to watch this was the cast and it’s ratings in Mexico. I am so glad that I did. I so agree that if that was Imelda’s last scene there is no better way for her character to have died. I wonder if Juián will “spirit” Ana away for good. I sure hope so. “Papá a toda madre” starts on Monday and familiar faces along with me will be on that recapping team.

Comment: After watching “Amalia” peform on the special , I have discovered that the actress Regina Orozco who played her is also a singer in her own right.

Anon 4:40, I also liked that the main couple started out together and stayed together. That is something we normally do not see.

Jarifa, I also wanted to mention that in this series, I really enjoyed how each character seemed to grow and change for the better. Blanca matured and learned to be a person in her own right and become more modern. She stopped trying to impose herself on Julieta. Also, Julieta changed from not wanting marriage and family to ultimately loving marriage and her family and realized what gave her true joy. What she thought was wonderful at first did not compare to the growing love she and Robert had together, first by losing their own baby in a miscarriage and then taking in little Dave, giving him the love he so desperately needed. Love is what grows a person into a better person. Even Linda seemed to grow up and turn into a nicer person, getting along better with Julieta. I was very glad to see a repentant Tulio as well. He had been so full of greed, jealously, and hatred of his own family for so long. That kind of thing will eat away at a person's soul until there is nothing left. I am glad he had a change of heart. But it sure would be very hard to forgive the fact that he KNEW about his wife's kidnapping Juan Pablo and did nothing.

Cynthia, that is a very good point which I had not thought about. The novela had a very optimistic feel to it and that was probably a big part of it.

Jarifa, thank you so much for all the work you have put into this TN. Your final recap was excellent as were all the others. I am so glad I got to work with you and learn from you!

The finale did not disappoint...it followed suit with all the other episodes. I too was dismayed at the ending and I certainly hope Imelda doesn't die as it would be such a tragic memory for such a joyous day. It would probably be a repeat of emotions for the day that Juan Pablo was taken and Dani was born.

I completely fell in love with Blanquita as she crawled through the house...what a cutie!!

I was SO looking forward to seeing the Cooper house and was equally taken aback with the Ana/Julian scene as was everyone else who commented on it.

In regards to not hiring the Rmaon writers for the second season--DITTOOOO!!!

Carvivlie, thanks for lettingus know about some of the missed scenes. I would have liked to see the family at Audi'd book signing too!

Doris, just an fyi--I'm going to use your Gran Fin-Por Fin idea on my title for the final recap on Ramon....just wanted to make sure you were aware :-)

I'm really impressed with all the patio peeps here, your comments were a joy to read! Hoping to see you all on the Padre a Toda Madre patio, along with all the other followers/lurkers :-)

CaliA, Paloma and Ana, you joined us a few times, hope to see you too! BTW, haven't seen Jackie in a while, hope all is well with her.

Cynthia, thank you so much for subbing for me when the need arose!

You are welcome, RgvChick. That would be a terrible burden for Blanquita as JP’s disappearance was for Daniela. I had not thought about that. That is reason enough for Imelda to live! So glad that you are on the ”Papá a toda madre” team.

Steve, I think it was a surprise for everyone.

Rgv Chick - LOL! Gran Fin/Por Fin has been worn out by me, over the years. Everyone, please take El Por Fin and use as you like because sometimes it is just sooo appropriate . 😄👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Wonderful, Jarifa! Huge thanks from another of your fans, me!

I really enjoyed this novela – I thought the script was mostly very thought-provoking, except for the cartoonish rich family, and that awful scene where the students insulted Blanca in English class. Otherwise, it tackled lots of interesting problems and points of view. Arguments between characters were very well written. And the cast was terrific! I did appreciate that Julietta wasn’t a weak and weepy and victimized protagonista, but, on the other hand, she did come across as a bit cool, even frosty at times.

My main gripe is that the show was cut so severely. The network is complaining that telenovelas aren’t as popular as they were, but when they chop the shows, the emotional punch of the scenes is deflated, giving us sort of a bullet-point outline of the story. And it seems like they cut the shows the most during the last weeks, and that’s the part we’ve been waiting for. At least with this show, we could tell what was going on. Sometimes they’re cut so severely that story lines are left unfinished, or we’re just bewildered about what the heck is going on. I have a constant feeling of being ripped off.

I’ll give the next show a try, though it looks pretty silly, but what I really have my hopes set on is Jose Jose over on Telemundo. I believe it’s the first showing, which means it wouldn’t be diced and sliced, and I have my fingers crossed that it is as beautifully made as Celia and Mariposa del Barrio.

Reading the comments again.

Carvivlie, thank you for mentioning the beautifully carved toys in Gabi and Dani's new store. It was modern and hip and a place I'd certainly shop at if it existed. I have no idea what I'd do with the carvings, but I'd find something.

doris, yes, appreciate your mentioning the Coopers being there. Robert Sr. was having the time of his life dancing with his granddaughter!

Cynthia, the growth and change of some of our beloved (and not so) was spot on.

Rgv, the finale was wonderful and in keeping with the high caliber we've come to expect.

Maggie (so nice to "see" you), the acting was top notch. I have high regard for Daniel Arenas and Zuria Vega as well as Rene Casados, the veteran and of course the incredible Diana Bracho.

Jarifa, I'd not seen Regina Orozco before but there a few moments where she sang and I was intrigued. I somehow envisioned her and Xavi on tour some day. I would like to see her without her craziness. I wonder if she and Enzo split or if he just wasn't available for the finale. Hoping for a better story for Bielen.

Diana

I too will be watching the BioSeries on my singing idol José José I read his autobiography in which he was very candid about his problems. Already I can tell
from snippets that I have seen that there will be many exaggerations and untruths,
but I am still planning on watching every episode. He is in the hospital in Mexico now
fighting for his life. According to his doctors, his cancer in the pancreas has been removed and has not metastasized. He had surgery in November and then more intensive
treatment. He returned to the hospital a few days ago because his body is not absorbing nutrients and he has lost a little more weight. He now weighs about 100 pounds. He is a great believer in prayer, and his family says that he is in good spirits.

Re this TN, I agree with the comments above. I have read a lot about Silvia Pinal,
and I love that she is still going strong at 86. She did just about everything in her
day: stage, screen, telenovelas, and she had her own TV show with her then husband Enrique Guzman when her children were very young. She was gorgeous!

Would someone please tell me the significance of OPPA. I missed that somewhere along the way. Did Robert and Julieta each call the other by that name?

Loved the triple-matching pajamas.

Does Ana have money on her own? Does the grifter have any money at all or prospects
of a job? I agree; I thought that ending was really weird. Perhaps she will get back
with Tulio in the long run.

Thanks to all Recappers and Commenters. I would enjoy a sequel.

Clara, I don't know what "opa" is supposed to mean but they have been calling each other it from the beginning.

Ana has a ton of money that she brought into her marriage with Tulio. Must be family money she inherited. Julian, the grifter, is just a common thief. No real job prospects. I suspect he'll take Ana go a all she's worth.

I don't think I've seen a TN where the main couple was together at the start of the show. I love how strong the relationship was throughout the entire show. Lots of communication and trust.

I also love that Juli was such a strong woman. Independent, an important job, a strong sense of self... she is the first female lead i could relate to.

Maggie, thank you and welcome to the patio. This novela was quite exceptional. You are so right about the “bullet pint” results of their slicing and dicing. . I just don’t get why they cannot plan better.

Clara Fying, a welcome to the patio to you, too. One thing that I do like about the novelas is that they do include people of all ages. Besides Sílvia Pinal , Eric Del Castillo, another favorite, is also in his eighties. It is nice to see actors being able to have roles at any age and not “aged out”.

Did anyone else watch the MMTF special on Uní yesterday?

Haven't watched it yet Jarifa

Jarifa, I'm sorry to say that I totally missed the special :-(

Thanks one more time to everyone who recapped and commented on this TN. I hadn't planned to watch it, but really enjoyed it. As I mentioned earlier, it was a treat to see Diana Bracho playing nice instead of her usual evil manipulator role.

I've always liked Daniel Arenas, but he's had a mix of good roles/characters and poor roles. It was rewarding to see him as Robert. Seeing most of the characters deal with changes in their lives was another reward of this TN.

I even liked the Osorio kid in this one!

I didn't see the MMTF special Jarifa...Saturday is my Animal Planet night and I lose track of what else might be on.

Welcome Clara! I think it was doris who was wondering if there would be "triple matching pajamas". Too cute! No, Julien has no money and no prospects. I am not sure if he feels anything for Ana or not. I do think he's attracted to her pocketbook.

La Paloma, I really liked Daniel in Teresa (the first time I saw him) but he was great here. Initially, I had hoped Horacio Panchieri was going to be cast, but I don't think anyone could have played it as perfectly as Daniel. Yes, young Osario was really good, I like his voice and he is very personable. I thought he did a great job with his part.

"I don't think I've seen a TN where the main couple was together at the start of the show". You know Carvivlie, that is an excellent point. I've been watching 10 years and I can't think of any other TN where that's happened.

Jarifa, "It is nice to see actors being able to have roles at any age and not “aged out” was perfect. And this TN had every age from one end of the spectrum to the other with everything in between...

Diana

"I also love that Juli was such a strong woman. Independent, an important job, a strong sense of self... she is the first female lead i could relate to."
Carvivlie---you are so right! I cannot recall a telenovela protagonist who had these qualities, either, in 15+ years of watching telenovelas. She did not take any garbage from people, yet was willing to bend, compromise, and give for the sake of maintaining relationships without giving up her own well being. I often wondered how Julieta turned out so strong and wise after being raised by CatDQ, because Hugo and Bruno were more what one could expect from Catalina's parenting. Perhaps she has more of her father's DNA in her?

This is one of the few telenovela I have watched that did not lend itself to snarky recaps nor comments here, either!

HI, everyone! T watched the special yesterday and it was really good. The actual concert can be seen at

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bg3NfC3XdP8

The youtube concert is 1 hr 49 minutes long. The first 9 min are preliminary shots of the audience and some security announcements. The concert on TV included much of the actual concert but since it was only 45 min. long (approximately) a lot was left out, including introductions of the cast that is present at the concert.

Doris, " I often wondered how Julieta turned out so strong and wise after being raised by CatDQ, because Hugo and Bruno were more what one could expect from Catalina's parenting. " I often wondered the same thing! Maybe she had some good teacher(s) that served as a role model :-)

Great to see you, LaPaloma. You are welcome! It was a pleasure recapping this one. I, too, have always liked Daniel Arenas but I think this has been his best role yet.

doris, so true about the recaps and comments. I had not really thought about it.

Diana, the special was just fun. The actors even tried to stay in character. I finally could read the lyrics to the songs. I am not good at catching lyrics in Spanish or English.

I hope to see you all on the “Papá a toda madre” patio.

RgvChick, thanks for the link.

Thanks, Jarifa. Fabulous job. Loved your opening -- After hearing the oompah-pah of the tuba one last time . . . -- and the whole recap. I’m so glad you and Rgv Chick created this oasis for us day after day to enjoy this fine TN. Hurrah to both of you and Alfredo for getting it started! And Cynthia for substituting sometimes!

Robert not doing CPR made me wonder if maybe Silvia Pinal has in her contract that her hair and makeup must not be mussed in a scene.

So Ana is with Julien and can lavish her money on him. He sure is a villain that got a happy ending.

He surprises her by saying “I love you, my wife” in English. Blanca laughs but is impressed by his effort. Is he learning English, too? He says he would learn anything for her and kisses her hand.

Eugenio speaking English for Blanca was too cute.

I watched the MMTF special and the Amalia actress is a superb singer. The woman has got lungs. Love the bloopers of the TN that they played after the closing credits.

This was such a fresh, inventive story. I will miss it.

I too liked DA in Teresa, but after that, I thought he was rather blah, and I wasn't looking forward to seeing him in this role. But, I was extremely impressed with him in this role. He played it perfectly. He deserves an award. Most of the time, his role was to remain calm, but I felt that he had so many nuanced expressions within
that calmness. Unlike most of you, I am not a fan of ZV. Never have been.
She leaves me cold. I also find her more difficult to understand than many of the other actors. The children are adorable and talented with a big bonus at the
end with Super Speedy Crawler, Blanquita.

Over & Out & Adios
Muchísimas gracias!

RGV Chick: Thanks for the link to Youtube. I just finished watching it. I liked Regina Orozco and her singing the old Mexican standards. I was sitting there thinking, "I know these songs". My parents played a lot of Mexican music when I was growing up at home. At that time, I just hated it, I thought my parents were so "uncool" and so embarrassing. But now, I've learned to appreciate some of that music and embrace it. She sounds like some of the old singers that my parents had albums for. I especially enjoyed her singing with the mariachi band. She sure has a strong voice on her!

Thanks, Niecie. This final recap would not have been complete without your comment. Interesting thought on no CPR on Imelda. It would not surprise me. I will miss this, too.

Cynthia, so true about what we thought what was cool or not as kids and our current tastes. : )

Clara Fying, you asked: Would someone please tell me the significance of OPPA. I missed that somewhere along the way. Did Robert and Julieta each call the other by that name?" According to what Julieta explained to Dave when they first brought him home with them, "OPPA" is a term of endearment used for someone you respect, someone you admire who is your friend, your accomplice. She told Dave that she started using it with Robert because it is supposed to be used by a woman to a man, but Robert was a copycat. So, yes, they each called each other that; then Dave started using it for both of them too!

"Does Ana have money on her own?" Yes, she was the that had mucho money. "Does the grifter have any money at all or prospects of a job?." NO, the grifter has no money. He was the one that tried to swindle the family out of money by saying he was the real "Juan Pablo." And he just got out of jail so I doubt he has any prospects for a job.

"Opa/Oppa" was a term of endearment that Rob &Juli used for each other, like many couples have pet names for each other that make no sense to the general public . It always threw me off to hear it because "opa" means grandpa in German.

Awww, Vani Oso! Cute avatar, Doris!

Rgv Chick and Doris,

Thanks for clara fying for me the significance of OPPA. I wonder if anyone else
knows about that word.

I remember the early days of the grifter and his fake leg injury.
Pathetic and yet funny.

Thanks again and Happy Recapping in the future.

Rgv Chick -thnx! 💗 Wish I had changed it sooner.

Clara Fying - I asked my adult student who I tutuor in conversational English about "oppa,". She is from Mexico City, college educated and working on her masters degree, and said she had never heard of it.

On to Papá a Toda Madre tonight! When I asked this same ESL conbpversation student about translating the title PATM, she told me that "Superdad" or "Superpapa" would be pretty close. "A toda madre" is idiomatic and can mean different things in different contexts.

On pet names, I thought this was more common than it seems to be. Many are just made up or something that sounds good for no particular reason. Ours was "Puchi".

I once knew a couple who called each other "George", though neither he nor she had a name that sounded like George. People (we) can be strange :-)

Doris, good call on the German.

As far as I know, "OPA" is Greek and is a celebratory word. It's roots go back to Homer and the Illiad and the Odyssey.

Jarifa - I took a few quarters in beginners German, 18 years ago. That's about all I retained. LOL

Cynthia Hampton - I had forgotten about Opa as a Greek word. Yes, in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, it was what everyone says when toasting.
