Caer en Tentacion #73, 1/31/18: To Pull the Plug or Not...Is There an Alternative?

El Presente
Miriam is not allowed to pull the plug on Damian. Since the doc won't go behind Raq's back, Mim is going to find another way (she tells the doc imperiously). Her other way, as Raq finds out later, is to stop paying for his hospital care. Raquel is in a bind because her insurance has run out.

Santi learns Juan is the real father of Lola's baby. He's furious. How could she do this? She says this was done "to" her.

Mia, Raquel and Fede have a family discussion on Dam's fate. Mia is against disconnecting her dad from life support. It would be like killing him. There's a chance he might wake up. Raq gives her the facts on his prognosis. Fede, hesitantly, would agree to disconnect him. The person in that hospital bed is no longer their father. Mia is not convinced. This convo goes on too long. Cintia is the silent audience. Raquel says she sees both sides, but before she can say anything more Mia charges in shouting that Raq wants her dad disconnected so she can be left with Santiago. That earns her a well-placed slap. Mia stares at her mother, speechless and heads off to her room.

Raq comes to apologize to Mia. She lets her know, with Fede listening, that she had no desire or intention of disconnecting Dam. Fede goes along to get along. Then she gets a phone call from the hospital to tell her what Mim wanted to do. Mia and Fede are shocked. They get ready to go to the hospital.

Rueda, in Alina's office, is pissed that Santi was freed. That's not what they agreed to. Alina says she had no choice. Nico showed up as she was discussing things with Mim and she couldn't let Nico become suspicious of her. Rueda is still pissed--he's lost his fountain of $$$. He's reduced to taking Benji away from Santi and being Mim's lap dog. Alina says there's another way to start the $$$ flowing again. She fills him in on Andres and his money-laundering schemes. Rueda likes the idea of going after Andres.

Vic is on his way home when Miguel and two toughs block his way. They're there to take care of that guy who is pressuring him. Vic says he can take care of it himself, but he's overruled by the 3-against-1 team. Vic protests that since he's so well known in the 'hood, that anything that happens to the guy will come back to him. Mike says he cares little what happens to Vic. He's there to make sure nothing comes back to Andres or the business.

At the police station, Antonio and Skinny cop, Padilla, tell Nando the woman in the security video has been identified (sorry, didn't catch her name). She has priors. She hangs out with a guy name Blas Garrido. (Thanks, TF.) They are certain it will turn out to be the same guy in the video. Nando says their location is in the pueblo where Vic lives. Ant says to Nando, what is he waiting for, get two men and get going to pick them up.

Nico and Santi have an escalating discussion over how Santi overreacted to Lola's news. Santi complains that he's the last one to find out anything that's going on. Nico tries to tell him they kept stuff from him while he was in jail so as not to worry him even more. Santi shuts himself in his room and calls Raquel. She says she can't see him just then, but will call him later.

Flo comes for a visit. She goes to the door of Santi's bedroom. They stare at each other for a second, then he hugs her. Then he finds out why she left their service so suddenly, without any notice. Of course, it was because she knew Caro was cheating on him with Damian. Santi's ire and bile rise together and he chews her out. He's sure if she had told him, today, Caro would be alive and in the house. Flo never gave him the opportunity to rescue his marriage. [Sorry, Santi, I don't think it would have worked out that way, but I'll give you a pass this time.] Nico steps in and calls him on his anger. Flo is not to blame. The mercury drops and Santi's temper(ature) goes down and he apologizes to Flo.

Mike tells Vic it's up to him to figure out a way to finger Garrido. Vic is asking too many questions about Garrido's fate. Mike says they're going to take him for a ride. [Gulp.]

Nacho questions Bebo regarding raising Lola's baby as his own. Bebo's sure he can and wants to do it. He loves Lola; he will love her child. Nacho ends up telling him how proud he is of Bebo.

El Pasado
It's a drunken Vic, harassing Caro shouting and gesticulating about Caro's transgressions, all in front of Flo. She hands Benji off to Flo and tells Vic to go in her bedroom. [Oh, please, who does that? Better to send Flo to the bedroom, but that's just me.] He threatens to tell everybody of the affair unless he gets some money. And what, Caro says, does that get him. She reminds him he's living off his silence. She tries to tell him there will be no more money because the affair is over. He tells her she's stupid; that she must go back to Damian.

He tells her he owes money and if he doesn't pay up they will kill him. Caro supposes correctly that he's been gambling again. He begs. She relents and goes to a drawer where she hides her extra cash. Vic sees the gun case and wonders if she intends to use it on him. When he sees how little cash he's getting, he starts to get violent and starts to storm out shouting that he's going to tell the whole world. Caro grabs the gun out of the case and tells him he's not going to say a word to anyone or she will kill him. He reminds her that she will leave her children motherless (as in hard prison time). Although it gives Caro food for thought, she continues to hold the gun on him and tells him to leave her in peace and never come back. He leaves the room and she puts the gun back. On his way out, he tells Flo that Caro is neither a good mother, wife, nor woman. Caro tells Flo that everything she heard Vic say was a lie.

Mia is demanding of Damian to know what is going on between him and Caro. He steers her into the privacy of his office, but declines to answer. Mia complains that he doesn't pay enough attention to her or the rest of the family. He pays more attention to the Alvarado family. Dam tells her to stop inventing things. It's ridiculous. Just what kind of man does Mia think he is? He continues, that she makes it so hard to approach her, touch her, hug her. She insists that he behaves more lovingly with Lola than with her. [Dam, give it up, you won't win Mia's (ill)logical thinking.] She continues, he's never there for his family. It's like he doesn't care about them. He's changed since that family came into their lives.

Raquel is at the catering/banquet office checking out the business with Ariana, since she and Caro have been absent. Everything is going swell, Ariana is pleased to report. They have many new clients. That pleases Raquel until she finds out that most of them have been referred to them by Andres and they pay in cash. Raq asks her if she thinks the two of them can handle the business without Carolina. Ariana reluctantly says yes, they could, although even when she follows Caro's recipes exactly, they don't turn out like hers.

Santi calls Raq. Raq would like to talk to him at the office. He says he has a few errands, then he'll drop by. Then he checks in with Carolina. He can tell she's upset. When she tells him she was paid a visit by a drunken Vic, he tells her he will come right home. She covers for herself with Flo by telling her that she and Santi tell each other everything and he knows how Vic is. Flo is left thinking over what she's just witnessed. It wasn't pretty--especially when she has more feelings for Santiago than for Carolina.

Patricia and Lola -->>FF We do learn that Patricia is trapped in Miguel's net. He's involved in dirty business and it's spelled N-A-R-C-O-S. She tells Lola if she sees no evil, hears no evil and speaks about it to no one, she'll be ok.

Dam and Mia drop in at the banquet offices. Raq tells Dam she's ready to buy out Caro's part of the business. Mia is really happy with the decision. Dam, not so much. He wonders how they will manage. Raq says the tiff she and Caro had was not just some little tiff. She assures him that she and Ariana will be able to manage just fine. She thinks he's implying she can't manage without Carolina. He back-pedals, but it's too late. Raq says it's her business and she can take charge and tells him to keep his nose out of it. She and Mia go off to see about some new refrigerators. He's left there with his nose still attached.

Flo and Agustin -->> She repeats Vic's declaration that Caro has a lover. Agustin pauses to absorb her statement.

Antonio talks Celia out of pushing her charges against Godoy/Nando forward. He tells her Godoy is one of his best men. He made a mistake, he shouldn't have done what he did (although he's a bit suspicious that it wasn't consensual sex). He assures her she will continue to have protection, though it won't be Godoy. She agrees.

Santi arrives home to find Caro in bed suffering from a headache--yeah, a big one, no doubt. Santi sees the gun case open and asks about it rather forcefully. She sits up and tells him Vic was asking for money. Santi rightly asks what does the money have to do with the gun?

She doesn't answer him in this episode. Must see TV tonight.

Comments:
Miriam is a nasty old piece of work. That is all.

Santiago needs to get a grip on his temper. Maybe people don't tell you things because you fly off the handle. Get a grip. We did see last night how he owned the gun but didn't have prints on the gun.

Ultimas Capitulos already.

Thanks for the discussion page, Anita. I’ll post what I remember but it probably won’t be everything.

PRESENT DAY
•Alina and Rueda have a discussion about Santiago’s release from prison.
• Raquel slaps Mia after Mia accuses her of wanting to disconnect Damian and let him die so she can be with Santiago.
•Santiago is upset that no one told him earlier about Lola’s situation with Juan. Florencia tells Santiago that the reason she quit before was because she knew about Carolina and Damian
•Mike/Miguel and his goons find Vicente. (Maybe someone can provide more details on this particular scene)
•Antonio and Godoy identify the man and woman who stole Damian’s credit card. The man was identified as Blas Garrido (I don’t remember the woman’s name).

PAST
•Carolina gets mad at Vicente for mentioning that Damian is her lover in front of Florencia and gets Santiago’s gun out and threatens him.
•Mia gets upset with Damian that he doesn’t give her the attention she needs from him.
•Patricia warns Lola not to say anything about what happened on their school trip.
*Santiago asks Carolina why his gun is out of its place.

That’s all I got.

Anon 207, yes, Santi's temper (and exactly how fiery) has been discussed and debated here quite a bit.

In the present, it was certainly on display last night.

He first took his frustrations out on (bad memory day), the babysitter who is in love with him (Flor?). I couldn't discern what was said but I think she finally spilled to Santi what had occurred between Caro and Vincente when he showed up and she threatened him with a gun that pivotal day.

However, I could not blame him for his reaction after Lola's news. He could however have waited for verification that Bebo was the father, which of course he isn't. I didn't realize Nico also thought Bebo was the father. I thought Lola had corrected him on that.

Caro was pushed to the limit pulling the gun on Vincente, although I don't think he took her seriously for one minute. I do think Caro wanted out by this point as the floor is crumbling beneath her. I still can't imagine what occurred to make her change her mind and go off with Damian that fateful day.

In the past, Raq and a rather triumphant Mia told Damian that Caro would not be around (business relationship severed I think)?? Damian looked crushed.

Alina and Rueda had a little chat during which I believe Alina tried to weasel out of the fact Santi was released. I don't know what she told him but he smiled like the wicked, fat cat he is.

Sometimes I can't remember if I am remembering scenes from the previous or earlier night. Part of my cognitive deficits.

Looks like cannot miss TV tonight.

Diana

Lola confessed that Juan is the father.

Rueda complained to Alina that he doesn't get enough money out of Miriam. Alina suggested they go after Andres' money laundering business.

Mia even pointed out that Damian doesn't hug or touch her. She asked why and he didn't answer.

The doctor told Miriam that only Raquel has the legal right to make the decision to pull the plug on Damian. She freaked out at him and then decided that she wasn't going to pay the bills to keep Damian alive.

After Carolina held the gun on Vicente she put it back in the drawer.

Thanks for pitching in for others who need a quick view. I'm working on the next parts now.

I will add this new information on the gun to our "database." Now Vic also knows where the gun is stored.

Oh, the doctor also told Screaming Mimi that Damian's children's rights to this decision (if Raquel were unable or unavailable) supercede hers. That's what really peeved her.

Thanks, Anita and Everybody! I fell asleep after the slap so I'm no help. I totally understand Santi going off on Lola about Juan, although it doesn't help the situation. Thankfully, Nico calmed him down.

The issue with pulling the plug on Damian is that he is the key witness to what happened to Carolina when no other suspects are currently in custody and when Antonio and co. haven't yet located the couple on the surveillance footage. They have names but finding the individuals is a different story. But it looks like there'll be a slight break in the case with the fingerprint results. So Damian needs to wake up. Even if he can't talk, someone will have to figure out some way to communicate with him. It's possible he might remember some things or start remembering little by little.

Miriam doesn't have rights over Damian. Obviously she doesn't care about the murder case. She should be angry that her son had an affair regardless of whether or not she likes Raquel.

Thank, TF, for the added lines. Now, back to work.

She also does't care what is legal about this situation.

Thank you Anita this was a perfectly short and to the point recap. So you left out a few things, ok. I watched it for that slap. That very very long awaited slap. It was a good one.OneShe
Should have gotten along time ago.She
Thinks she should be the center of everyone's universe. Not!I still think
He'll wake up. They keep teasing us by
Keeping the Camara on him like hes gonna wake up.I wish they'd stop that.
If theyre gonna kill him off just do it already. I Hope the ending isn't
Going to be a disappointment like that
Other one they were in, soto and the one His character cheated with in this one.Something about "I'll never trust a Man again".That's kindof the English
Translation.Anyway the ending was very
Unsatisfying. They walked away in a
Cemetery. Now what the hell kind of a
Happy ending is that?

Ok going from work, read y'all later.
Thank you Anita.

Nina--You are thinking of Yo No Creo en los Hombres. Giselle is not known for happy endings. La Candidata didn't end happy for the two lovers, but it was a good ending. I think we are learning that to watch a GG production is to expect the unexpected. That's something we are not used to in telenovelaland. I for one, like her complexity of the story (even if it is a refrito, she chose well) and the characters. Added to that is the terrific casting for the production.

Thank you Anita.

I have one question is Blas Garrido the same man that is Vic's loan shark? The same one that Miguel and the goons are going to take for a ride. I thought that's what I heard. And your recap has confirmed it. Same guy?

So how did he get the credit card? did he kill Carol?, is he the same guy that was paid off by Santi in the first episode. I'm beginning to think that Vic has the answers. He sure had a motive since Carol is standing up to him, and Damian hasn't paid at least that's what he is saying. Garrido is going to be taken for a ride so there goes that witness. Oh man I can't wait for this puzzle to start revealing itself....

And yes Anita I am with you about Giselle's productions. LC was not a disappointment, very unexpected and depressing ending but oh man it was an awesome TN. And this one has such depth, somewhat confusing at times but very good characters. Santi sometimes goes over the top with his anger though.

Sandie--
Blas Garrido, so far as Godoy & Co. know, is the man who hangs out with the woman in the video. They are from the same pueblo Vic is from. However, neither the police, nor we, know for sure that Garrido is actually the man in the video--nor that he's the loan shark that's going after Vic. Confused? There's more.

Miguel and his two thugs are planning to take the loan shark for a ride. They don't know what he looks like and have told Vic he needs to point him out.

Either we missed it from several episodes back, or we don't really know if the loan shark is named Garrido. As of the end of the episode it doesn't really matter. The loan shark is going for a ride. Garrido, if he's someone different, is going to be questioned by the police (along with the woman, who HAS been identified in the video) as possibly being the man in the video.

If he's the same person, I sure hope the police find him before Miguel does.

My bet is on Garrido being the loan shark AND the guy in the video. At least I hope so. Maybe we'll find out tonight.

Thank you, Anita. I did not see this last night, so I am all up to date and ready to watch thanks to you!

Sandie--
Here are the answers to the rest of your questions:
1. So how did he get the credit card? BIGLY clue. Just one credit card was stolen out of Dam's wallet. If Vic's involved, then this guy (if the loan shark) got the credit card in exchange for the debt Vic owed. Makes sense? If the guy had been at the scene, wouldn't he have taken more?

2. did he kill Carol? Probably not. Too obvious now.

3. is he the same guy that was paid off by Santi in the first episode. I don't think so. The guy we saw in the first episode was quite stocky and bald. The loan shark has hair. The guy in the video--up for debate.

I'm dying to know the answer one of our Anons brought up. Where is the luggage? Was there any?

Anita, thank you for your thoughtful recap.

Favorite lines included "Fede goes along to get along" and "Santi's ire and bile rise together"...

"How could she do this? She says this was done "to" her". Lola, not Santi should be the focus here.

“He's sure if she had told him, today, Caro would be alive and in the house. Flo never gave him the opportunity to rescue his marriage”. So Santi is still delusional after everything that has occurred. Speechless.

"...Flo is left thinking over what she's just witnessed. It wasn't pretty--especially when she has more feelings for Santiago than for Carolina" stopped me in my tracks. True. So true.

"So Damian needs to wake up. Even if he can't talk, someone will have to figure out some way to communicate with him". TF, you never fail to give fresh food for thought. I also agree this really needs to happen. I can't believe they would have him linger this long without waking up. But I am not familiar with GG, and from the comments, we should expect the unexpected.

My primary focus is Lola and Benji and hoping they survive physically and emotionally.

I want Andres and Mike taken down. And out.

And of course, to find out what really happened that night.

Diana

Amen Diana, Amen!

Good work, Anita. It looks like every episode is critical now.

The slap Raquel delivered to Mia was so overdue. That girl needs a bloody good hiding, so I am not prepared to predict if her behavior will take a turn for the better yet. She is a selfish brat who is also making her own misery and spreading it around. Just like Screaming Mimi.

We don't get many courtroom scenes in novelas, so it would be nice to get one over the situation with Damian. I'd love to see what a judge would make of this. I guess it may also be too much to ask for some medical reality here.

Either way if Laura got hold of this information..... unless Screaming Mimi has also bribed her.

UA: I was smiling when Raquel slapped Nora Gaxiola 2.0! She had it coming.

However, we might see Nora Gaxiola 2.0 go deeper into the deep end even further.

Urban--I agree that Mia is a mess. Whose mess? Family upbringing (not reigning her in, ignoring her, criticizing her) or more serious mental issues? Either way her behavior has been tolerated for most of her years. Based on family HISTORY that we are learning, Mimi and Raquel/Cin have all shown predilections toward mental weaknesses and Damian himself a tendency toward deviant behavior.

Only Fede and Nico know of her darker side--beating up Joaquin for her, bashing the windshield of his dad's car and drugging him to take porn-style photos of him.

What are we to make of this in a modern, upper class family? Once Raquel found out that she was cutting herself that should have been a big red flag for some serious treatment. Given that Mia didn't want help when it was offered and Cin's horrible experience in a treatment facility fresh in Raquel's mind, what else is left to a family? Especially since Mia is now of age to make her own decisions. I think she's doomed.

Diana--"So Santi is still delusional after everything that has occurred." I think Santi is feeling culpable, even though he has acknowledged his love for Raquel and that his feelings are not based on revenge.

He certainly knows he loved Caro and would've, could've done something, had he known ahead of time. She was his wife, mother of his children and they'd been together a long time. I think he alluded one time to the fact that they might not have stayed together, based on the adultery, but she was a human being, dear to his heart. He wouldn't have wanted her dead (well, that's up for debate now).

Interesting how he examines his growing admiration and friendship for Raquel after they met--but that is for discussion on Thursday's episode, so I'll shut up now.

I agree. Mia has been unwilling to talk about any of this with anyone, including a professional. If she offs herself Raquel should not blame herself for it.

I don't see Raquel as an inadequate mother; Federico has issues, but ones normal for his age. Mia has probably always been too needy.

Miriam's problem is her sense of entitlement. She is a narcissist. When she bean accusing Raquel of being a gold digger I'll bet Mimi herself was one back in the day.

OOPS... it was "began." I'm currently prepping a vat of chili for Sunday.

Urban--What kind of beans? I made chili not long ago and ran out of the ones I like, small red ones, so I added a can of black beans. It was really good and nice-looking, too.

Black beans. They're the smallest of the Goya beans in case someone wants to top hot dogs with it.

It's a little mild for my taste because the Potluck Queen can't handle spicy. I will have to remember to pack the cayenne jar.
