Papá a toda madre Wednesday January 31, 2018 Capítulo 12: Kidnapping, Conspiracy, and Blackmail: Oh, My!

At Jorge’s house, he is asking his daughter Valentina why she has not been going to her religious studies class. Father Cutberto told him that she has not been attending. What has she been up to? She says maybe Father Cutberto doesn’t see very well . . . Jorge wants her to look him in the eye and tell him the truth. She insists she has been going. If he doesn’t believe her he should go talk to her teacher. She cannot believe he has such little trust in her. He ends up apologizing. She is talking about getting ready for the concert and the fact that Toño and Samuel are going to Jorge’s godparent’s 50th anniversary party.

At Mauricio's house, Mauricio has taken on a much more conciliatory tone and is trying to convince a reluctant Anifer that living with her great aunt the nun will be a thousand times better for her. He follows her into their house. Mauricio explains that he is simply not ready to be a father. She insists that she has to live with him because he is her father. She likes him. He wants to know where it says that. He is too young to be a father. She doesn’t think he is so young. Well, he says he is more like an old kid. Maybe some time he will be ready to be a father. Anifer wants to know if she goes with the nun, will he ever come and see her. Of course he will . . . when he can. . . maybe not everyday but he will come to see her. Her next concern is if her mother comes looking for her, will he tell her where she is. Mauricio says of course he will. He asks nicely if she will go with her great aunt.

Jorge has ended up going to the celebration of his godparent's 50th anniversary and is outside of the church after their ceremony talking to them and congratulating them on being an example to follow. His godfather Aurelio tells him how seeing Jorge just makes him think of Jorge’s father. Jorge has no idea how much he misses him. His godmother is looking for Valentina. Jorge explains that she could not make it. Aurelio thanks him for coming and puts his arm around his wife. Thinking back on 50 years, Aurelio explains that it has has been a life filled with obstacles but in the end luckily love triumphs. He kisses his wife. He then asks Jorge why his wife did not come. Jorge looks back at Samuel who is sitting on a bench by himself and admits that he and Dulce are separated. The godparents are shocked. Aurelio says it is just another example of the bad times we are in. Marriages just aren’t like theirs. He puts his arm around his wife again. People get separated and divorced far too easily. Jorge says he could be right. Things aren’t like they were before.

Outside of the nun’s foundation, Mauricio gives Anibel her backpack and includes a tablet for her to take with her. Hey, she earned it; not really but she can have it anyway. Mauricio tries to talk up the place he is leaving her at with all of the trees, the atmosphere . . . She is upset she didn’t get to say goodbye to Renée who also has her plant. Mauricio says not to worry. He will tell her. The nun wants to have a word with him and sends a sad but resigned Anifer off to the side to wait for her. Mauricio asks the nun to be careful about telling Anifer about her mother. She says not to worry. She will do it in the best possible way. Mauricio looks just as upset as Anifer.

Jorge is still with his godparents. His godmother agrees that they had some crises in their marriage but they always ended up coming out ahead so Jorge should not give up. Aurelio says they have got to get going to the banquet hall to celebrate. They will see him there. Aurelio starts looking for his car keys and his godmother has them. She remarks he is always losing them and asks what would men do without their wives. She herself never learned how to drive. Her hubby was always her chauffeur. Jorge is surprised because he could have sworn that he saw her drive once. Aurelio looks worried. She goes on to say it wasn’t her. Aurelio agrees. Jorge has a flashback of his father and Aurelio where Aurelio told his father that if there was no room in his car he could come with them in their new car. He grabbed his father’s hand and caressed it. Jorge’s father said when he got back from his business trip maybe he could have the keys and take it out. The godfather agreed but said he might have to ask his wife for the keys. Jorge then remembers his father and godfather leaving the hotel. Jorge comes back to reality and is confused. His godmother asks if something happened. No, something just came up and he has to leave. Aurelio follows him and tells him to wait. He wants to know why he is leaving. Jorge takes him to the side and tells him what he saw twenty years ago at the Hotel Posada where he saw him and his father leaving. All of this time he thought it was his godmother. His godfather tells him to calm down and let him explain. He calls him “son” which just annoys Jorge further. Aurelio says that things happen even though they might not be right. Those things are not to be talked about. Jorge says that he cannot believe the shame of it all when his godmother comes to see if they are arguing. Jorge says they are not. It is just that he has to go. He will see them sometime in the future. He goes looking for Samuel.

Anifer is still saying goodbye to Mauricio. He tells her she will be much better off with the nuns and pipsqueaks. He tells her that crying is forbidden. She feels really bad. He tells her to deal with it. She can. He tells her to breathe really deeply. They inhale and exhale together. Mauricio finally gets in his car. Anifer is going to miss him a lot. The nun leads her away. He is clearly broken up about leaving Anifer behind. Talking to himself he admits that he is going to miss her, too. Sebastián calls. Mauricio is ready to be distracted and clear his head and heart. He is ready to party! With one last glance at Anifer in his rear view mirror, he drives away.

Now left alone with the nun, Anifer finds they are not going inside but they have to go to another place first. Anifer wants to know where they are going and why she can’t bring her things to her room first. The nun says she need not worry. It is not going to take them too much time at all. The nun gets Anifer in the back seat and they are off.

At the tire shop, Flor has noticed that Nerón has paid attention to what she said and has hired somebody to help. Nerón introduces Pablo to his “wife”. Pablo sees the baby and says that it looks like Flor much to Nerón’s delight.

Jorge gets home with Samuel only to find Valentina all dressed up to go to the concert. He wants to know where she thinks she is going. She is going to the concert. She wonders why they are not at the 50th anniversary celebration of his godparents? Her friends are going to pick her up outside. Jorge tells her she is going nowhere made up like she is and dressed like she is. She has on that dress of Dulce’s that she liked which makes Jorge even more adamant about her not looking like her mother. She has to change if she wants to go. Her cellphone rings. Her friends are coming to pick her up. Jorge grabs the phone. He finds out it is a party with alcohol that she is going to and not a concert. He tells the boy on the other end of the line that his daughter is not going anywhere. Next he talks to Valentina. Since he has caught Valentina in another lie, it probably means that she lied about not going to her religious studies classes. Jorge cannot believe how she has betrayed his trust in her. She has not stopped lying. She asks why would she tell him anything when nothing matters to him anyway. He never lets them know what is going on. Jorge warns her not to talk to him like that because he is not her mother.

Back at the cul-de-sac, Renée stops by Mauricio's to see Anifer and return her plant just to find Mauricio ready to go on vacation. She can keep the plant if she wants. He explains that if she wants to see Anifer and give her her plant she will have to go to the San Martín Foundation. He dropped Anifer off to live with her great aunt who is a nun who lives there. Renée tells him that that is impossible. No nuns live there. It is a civil foundation. She knows the place because she gave a talk there. The San Martín Foundation supports victims of domestic violence. The few children who are there are with their mothers being sheltered. She does not know who he let Anifer go with but there is no Sister Queta at the San Martín Foundation. Mauricio looks upset.

Jorge talks with his daughter Valentina. He is not giving her his permission to go to the party. She now understands her mother. He is just a square. Everything has to be HIS way. Jorge starts to argue that her mother didn’t leave because of that. Valentina tells him he is unbearable. Jorge says well if she wants to know the truth: her mother ran away with some other guy. He asks if it is clear now. Samuel has been listening from the other room and wants it clarified. Valentina leaves. Jorge follows her out.

Mauricio, Renée and the plant go immediately to the San Martín Foundation where Mauricio finds out that Renée was right. The foundation has nothing to do with religion. There are no nuns there. So, who took Anifer? They start looking at the surveillance video.

Valentina is so upset hearing the truth about her mother's departure that she gets into her mom's car and is ready to drive away. Jorge is trying to prevent her from leaving by standing in front of the car. He tells her to get out of the car. She is leaving. Behind the car is Aurelio who followed him home. He is clearly still upset and wants to talk to Jorge. Valentina puts the car into reverse so as to not hit her dad. Not seeing Aurelio behind her car she hits him. Jorge runs to his aid.

Toño and Verónica are out with the family. She is giving him the family’s activity schedule. He is busy surfing on his phone and says he doesn’t need to make notes. He will remember it all. He tells her tomake him a lost instead. She says she will. She asks how his job hunting is going. He “says” he has three or four appointments set up for next week. She wants the dates so she can put them on her master family schedule. As Toño thinks of what he is going to tell her he has a flashback to when he was a teenager. He asks his father for the car. His father, reclined on a sofa, tells him no. He can take the bus. When he asks for money for the bus, his father tells him to get a job. That is what life is like for men. You have to provide for the family. He tells Toño to get going and to tell his mother to bring him a beer. He then remembers telling his father he was getting married. His father was happy that he was marrying a good woman, a homemaker. He tells his father he loves her from the bottom of his heart. His father tells him he needs a woman who will support him unconditionally. He has to be the most important thing to her. He needs to realize that she needs to be his slave. Verónica gets Toño back to reality. She is asking him about the dates of his appointments. Are there three or four?

The nun and Anifer are driving to parts unknown. Anifer wants to know if they are there yet. The nun tells her that they have to pick up somebody else and then they will be going to María. Anifer asks if that is her mom. The nun nods. Anifer is smiling.

Back with Toño and Valentina, they are still discussing how many appointments he has. She is not happy with his attitude lately. He adds that he is still waiting for a confirmation so he doesn’t know if there are three or four. She says okay but it seems like he doesn’t give hoot about what she thinks. He starts sweet talking her and kissing her hand and the kids join them. Everyone is hungry.

Mauricio and Renée are still at the foundation. He is upset since he was not able to tell that the nun was not legitimate. Through the security footage Renée hopes to see the license plate of the car that Anifer left in with the nun. The foundation employee sees the nun on the recording and says she has never been at the foundation. She advises them to go to the Public Ministry to tell them what happened and file charges. The first 24 hours are the most vital. Mauricio just doesn’t know how to do any of it. Renée is taking screen shots of the nun and car with her phone. Renée tells him to calm down and relax. Anifer is going to need him to be the most focused ever. She tells him to breathe in and out. She says the first thing they need to do is make a police report at the Public Ministry.

As they leave, Renée asks Mauricio how much the nun knew already about Anifer when they met. It soon becomes clear that the nun had set him up. The nun carefully elicited the information from him. He basically volunteered the information the nun wanted about Anifer. Renée says that now that is all in the past. The important thing to think about is why the nun picked him.

Jorge is at the emergency room accompanying Aurelio when his godmother arrives in tears with the whole 50th anniversary party. He explains that Aurelio is being admitted to the emergency room and hopefully everything will be fine. She wonders what he was doing at Jorge’s anyway. He explains that Aurelio got hit in his cul-de-sac. It was a regrettable accident, yes, regrettable. His daughter Valentina was moving her mother’s car without looking and hit him by accident, yes, by accident. There is an audible gasp.

Back at Jorge's house, both kids are still there with Valentina praying for Aurelio and wondering why her father is not calling with information. Samuel is obsessing about their mother leaving with another guy and leaving them as if they were nothing. Valentina says she left like she did because they do not matter to her. She preferred to leave with that guy than stay with their square father. Knowing that, Samuel wonders how she could have she left them with him. Valentina tells him to face it. Things are really bad for them. Samuel still doesn’t understand why their mother left.

At the tire shop, Nerón is explaining Pablo’s job to him. Flor is visiting with the baby. She wants to know where Pablo came from since she has not seen him around the neighborhood. Can he be trusted? Nerón lies and says some guy in the neighborhood recommended him. He was his nephew, no his godson. He rambles on. He goes back to supervising Pablo. Flor says in a low voice: "We don’t believe him." and then repeats it.

Mauricio and Renée are back in his car. Mauricio is still questioning himself about not knowing that the nun was not a real nun. Renée tells him not to blame himself. He sees this event, him leaving to party and the whole fever epsiode as proof that he should never be a father. He cannot protect her from danger or even worse from people who want to hurt her. Renée wants to know if he is saying that because of what happened or is there something more. He is saying it because he received a death threat for Anifer.

At the hospital, Jorge’s godmother is unconsolable. Her husband was their support and guide. Jorge is kneeling next to her taking it all in. He tells her to be strong and that they all have faith that things will turn out well. She tells him that he inherited the goodness of his father, may he rest in piece. She starts reminiscing that he and her husband were inseparable. They were like brothers even more than brothers. Jorge agrees and adds that they were a whole lot more. She goes on how they were always so united and supporting each other in everything. When Jorge’s father died, her husband was destroyed. Jorge says he can only imagine. His best friend was gone. She still remembers when the two of them went good and early to climb El Ajuco (volcano outside of Mexico City) They would come home in the afternoon early but very happy. Then there were the business trips to Monterrey. Jorge agrees they made a lot of trips there. She then adds about the trip to Veracruz where they had to stay for several days. She adds what they most shared was their love for their families. That was always the most important for them: their wives and their children. Two exemplary men! Jorge adds they were very much men. The doctor comes out with news and everyone except Jorge runs over to find out what it is. Aurelio is stable and is conscious. They still have to wait for the test results so that they can rule out any serious internal injuries that might complicate the situation. Jorge’s godmother asks if that means that her husband is still in danger. The doctor says he is afraid it does. She nearly faints and Jorge just stands apart.

At Jorge’s house, Valentina has been trying to call him but he is not answering. Samuel tells her that if their father’s godfather dies, it will be because she killed him. She is not hearing it and gets a phone call. It is not from her dad but from her friends. She will be waiting at the door when they come on by. She tells Samuel that she will back soon. She is only going outside. He thinks she is crazy.

Mauricio and Renée arrive at the Public Ministry. Mauricio tries to explain his point of view. It isn’t that he doesn’t want to tell Renée all of the details but after finding out so little about María’s death he realizes that it is all so much more than he could imagine or knows. She finds it unbelievable that in this day and age a person could just disappea. He adds that there are other cases where just nothing is ever known. One is used to saying this doesn’t happen around here or it doesn’t happen to people that you know, but it does happen. Renée says that at least in this case Anifer has him. Mauricio says there is no way he can replace her mother. Renée knows how it hit her as an adult when her mother died. As for Anifer, she doesn’t even want to think of how Anifer will be affected when she finds out about her mother being dead. Mauricio says that at least Renée understands why he doesn’t want to tell her. She says that Anifer has to know that her mother is not coming back.

The Barrientos have just gotten home and greet Valentina who is outside of her house. Toño asks where the party is. She tells them she is not going out. She is just waiting for some friends to come by and visit. The kids tease her about having a novio. She makes it clear that she does not have a novio. Verónica comes over to offer any “womanly” assistance Valentina might need now that her mother is gone. Valentina, who has been continually looking at her phone, makes sure that Verónica knows that her mother is gone for good and that her parents fought terribly. Her clients were more important to her so they are going to get divorced. Toño comes to get Verónica just as Valentina’s friends arrive. She leaves Verónica behind wihout a glance and goes off with her friends.

Mexican episode: Back at the hospital one of the “party” guests criticizes Jorge for not bringing up his daughter right. His godmother approaches him and tells him he is going to have to step up and take responsibility for what his daughter did since he could not control her. Jorge nods and agrees that his daughter made a mistake and he will take care of it but they all have to know that the “so” respectable don Aurelio . . .He is not allowed to complete his sentence because his godmother tells him that Aurelio has asked to see him. It is urgent. Jorge says of course and goes.

Mexican episode: At Toño’s, he is seated at the table on his computer as Verónica is getting lunch ready. Toño gives his opinion on Valentina’s situation saying that she said it all. (Evidently he heard the whole conversation between Valentina and Verónica)When a mother prefers to be at work to being at home, that is the crux of the problem. Just think of spending more time with defendants than with her own family. Verónica tries to explain that she had to see her clients. He insists that the person who makes a family is the mother. If her head is somewhere else, it is all over. Verónica wants to know what he is insinuating. Just that the mother is the mother and the father doesn’t know what to do without his wife. He doesn’t want to argue. He is hungry and she can hurry up with those sandwiches. Verónica keeps making sandwiches as the kids arrive.

Inside the Public Ministry, Mauricio continues explaining his position to Renée as they wait in line to be seen. He knows that she thinks he is a monster but he has been an innocent in all of this. For him, it was like a miracle to find out that Anifer had a relative who could take her away where nobody could find her especially with the death threat. It was Anifer’s salvation. Renée understands all of that but sooner or later Anifer has to know the truth. The conversation is cut short when the same police officer who dealt with Mauricio’s fight with Toño and with the anonymous death threat, sees Mauricio one more time. Mauricio tells him they are there because of the kidnapping of a little girl. The officer says he cannot help because it is coming to the end of his shift and he is going home. The next guy on duty in about 20 minutes can help them. He is like Mr. Efficient. He wishes him luck with the search. Mauricio grabs him by the collar saying he will take care of them because it is his job. He won’t be going anywhere because he is going to help look for his daughter. Does he get it? Another police officer witnesses all of this.

Jorge goes to see his Aurelio. He apologizes for the incident and says he will pay for all of Aurelio's expenses. His godfather lectures him on always having to take care of the family. Because of the family we all have an image to maintain and only God can judge us. He tells Jorge to come over and sit down. Jorge sits on the bed and his godfather grabs him by the tie. If Jorge opens his mouth about his double life with his father, he will see his little princess behind bars. Jorge jumps up and tells him that his daughter is a minor so that will not happen. His godfather does not see that as a problem for her to pay for her crime. Jorge better start thinking about where he wants her to spend her ”happy” quinceañera.

At the Public Ministry, The officer asks Mauricio to calm down and says yes, he will start the report on the rest of his shift that is left. He makes it clear that a little extra money might help speed things up. Mauricio is almost ready to pay when Renée calls it what it is: corruption. The official is going to do his job because that is what he is being paid for. The officer asks her to lower her voice and lets them behind the counter to a desk. The first question that he asks is the name of the girl’s dead mother. Mauricio tells him that he never told him that the girl’s mother was dead. Renée is there as Mauricio’s witness. He never said a word about it. The officer says he heard it the day he stopped by woth the girl. Renée asks Mauricio if that is true. Mauricio does not remember but it could be a possibility. Looking worried, the officer excuses himself saying he has to check some administrative information with his boss. He will be back in a second. Mauricio says he is not going anywhere. The officer says if they want to solve the case they have to let him do his job. He will help them right away. He leaves. The other officer who has been watching comes over to ask if things are going okay. Mauricio says not at all. Mauricio says the personnel there don’t understand the urgency of the situation. Renée echoes the sentiment. The new officer agrees and asks them to calmly explain the situation. He wants all of the details because they are all so important.

Anifer and the nun are parked and the nun is smoking. Anifer is in the front seat and asks where they are going to see her mom. The nun says at her house. Anifer asks if they are going all the way to San Crispín. The nun tells her she is at a hotel. The nun's cellphone rings. She takes of her gimple as she gets out of the car to talk. It is the suspicious officer from the Public Ministry calling the nun to warn her about what is going on.He lets her know that Mauricio is at the police station filing a report. He doesn’t know they are involved but now that busy body officer Rodrigo Conde is involved who knows what is going to happen They agree that they have to sell the brat off ASAP to the couple to get her out of the country or they will be done for. He tells her to take Anifer to the house by the airport. He will get things arranged and see her there. She gets into the car and is talking to a lone pink pom pom on the passenger seat. She looks and Anifer is off running.

Back at the Public Ministry, Renée tells yet another officer that the last time that Anifer was seen was by Mauricio outside of the San Martín Foundation. Mauricio says that the fault lies with him letting her go off with the fake nun but how could he know that she was an impostor? The officer is taking down the information. He is going to add some police codes to Anifer's photo and other identification they gave him. Officer Rodrigo asks him to keep Mauricio informed. Rodrigo is going to take his team back to the foundationa amd start from there trying to identify the car from the security footage. He tells Mauricio he can follow them. Renée asks Mauricio if he wants to go back to the foundation. Mauricio says no, grabs her hand and starts to leave. They are going to go straight to Anifer.

Anífer has managed to escape passing through a group of kids outside with their teacher. The nun tells the teacher that she has lost her niece. The teacher suggests that she call the police. The nun says yes she will do that. She blesses the whole group before calling her police officer accomplice. She tells him that the girl has disappeared. He has to come and help her look for her. He grabs a cab and is off to the airport.

Everyone leaves the Public Ministry in a rush. The police leave with sirens sounding going to the foundation. Mauricio has another plan. He is going to to use the "find my tablet" function on the tablet that he gave Anifer to find her. He had it activated on her tablet when he gave it to her. Renée just wishes they had thought of it before. They could have saved so much time. They find the tablet signal on the phone and are going to go to it.

Back at the hospital, Aurelio is reminding Jorge that as a magistrate he knows all of the fine points of the law. He will not sue his daughter if Jorge agrees to say nothing about his relationship with Jorge’s father. Jorge gives in and agrees. His godfather says that for a family to function “appearances” are essential. His father must have taught him that. It is like the law and lawyers. Sometimes it doesn’t matter if a defendant is guilty. What is important is that the lawyer can make him “appear” innocent before the law.

Officer Rodrigo notices that Mauricio is not following them and calls Mauricio. Mauricio tells Renée not to answer his call. He can do his job as a police officer and he will do his as a father. Renée looks momentarily impressed.

Anifer keeps running as fast as she can. She goes up and down the stairs of a building. She hides but screams when a figure appears.

There sure was a lot of action tonight. More later . . .

Thanks Jarifa. So glad to have a recap of an action packed episode which whizzed by. Thanks

Valentina is wearing that shades of purple geometric bars dress of her former Mom's that Jorge said she could not have. Of course she has a Novio.
And old No-Nookie Miguel from Vino got a job in the Police department. Maybe his nookieluck will change now in that snappy uniform.

Smoking a cigarette, a cell phone, driving a jalopy? Even Anifer called bullshit on the cigarette.

Oooooo has Neuron hired his replacement?

Mauricio, Renée and the plant go immediately....

For some reason that just cracked me up. Ah yes, plant to the rescue! And Mauricio wanting to "clear his head and his heart" by partying was all too true...and all too futile.

The Godparent/Jorge's father story is a sad one. I had three friends who unwittingly married gay men, and there were years of suffering, puzzling rejection and distance, before the eventual divorce. The men were forced into hypocrisy out of shame and fear, their wives bewildered and losing confidence in themselves as women, and of course the children affected by the underlying tension and anger as well. Just a total mess.

In cases like this, nobody wins.

And oh my, the new worker at the tire shop. Certainly a lot of possibility of jealousy on Nerón's part having a young man around the place. Let's hope that Flor is truly in love with our old dude.

Thanks Jarifa, especially appreciate your including the parts from the Mexican telecast. I guess Univision here has more ads to wedge in, and therefore they are cutting scenes. Money talks.

Kirby, as soon as I saw the that young guy was being hired by Nerón, I thought the same thing.

It is too bad that Uni cut those two scenes, because we never know that Jorge was ready to tell all about Aurelio and his father to all if the 50th anniversary guests at the hospital Also, we never know to what extent of a jerk Toño is: making those insinuations to Verónica and telling her to hurry up with the sandwiches because he was hungry. She should have told him what he good do with the sandwiches.

Jarifa, another fantastic title!

The recap was excellent, as always. I love the way you capture the events. "There is an audible gasp" and "She gets into the car and is talking to a lone pink pom pom on the passenger sea" made me smile and stood out especially.

Well we suspected the not so nun was up to no good and so it was. "They agree that they have to sell the brat off ASAP to the couple to get her out of the country or they will be done for". What is all that about!!! I have no idea. And I enjoyed seeing "no-nookie Miguel" Kirby. Perhaps he will have better luck here Kirby.

"Mauricio tells Renée not to answer his call. He can do his job as a police officer and he will do his as a father. Renée looks momentarily impressed". Yes, me too. Let's get Anifer back to safety soon. I love her spunk. I can't stand kidnappings or any trauma to children.

I have to say I was a little surprised Valentina wasn't the least bit sorry for mowing Aurelio down. Didn't skip a beat...Jorge has his hands full. I am liking the actor more every time I see him.

Baby Milady is an angel, isn't she? I don't think she has cried (or even scowled once!).

"Sometimes it doesn’t matter if a defendant is guilty. What is important is that the lawyer can make him “appear” innocent before the law". Sour words that unfortunately do apply in far too many cases.

Excellent recap, amazing avatar. The day is starting out to be a great one.

Thank you Jarifa!

Judy, our comments crossed.

ITA that Flor loves Neuron and I don't think a much younger man is going to turn her head for even a second. I'm thinking she is staunch and loyal.

Diana

Tono is a short, greasy, unshaven, lazy jerk. Did I miss anything?Veronica is a slinky Goddess. Her hair is beautiful even. I'm sure it is not her natural color that we are seeing, but is the most normal looking hair on any woman in a TN this year. They are one of those 'head scratcher' couples we have all seen in real life. You come away thinking 'I'd kill him/her.' Then you have to admit they seem happy and it seems to be working, so who am I to figure it out.

With Pablo and Flor, each of them had that little one or two millisecond too long glance when they first met. There is going to be trouble. When she gives him one of her calendars, all bets are off. When you first see another off limit person, your eyes are supposed to just take an obligatory sip. Not a gulp. You can't help but wonder if Flor is still as much in Luuuuurve now that the retirement windfall has evaporated...just saying

I was shocked they used something as sensible as that find my phone app. That makes as MUCH sense as most of the other things Mau does DON'T. As an aside, why did he leave it ON when he put it in her backpack? Lucky that he did, as it has to be pinging towers along the way for the find my phone app to work. That's why the smart bad guys turn their phones off if they do not want to be found. At least this will hopeofully allow her to be found promptly, rather than lost and running from the None & BadCop for 70 episodes.

So if a two dollar hooker in a habit fooled Mauricio, is there any confusion why as the brain trust at LogaToys he may not have been the best fit?

"When you first see another off limit person, your eyes are supposed to just take an obligatory sip. Not a gulp".

Uh oh. I guess I'm too trusting. I'll be watching closely to see if there is any gratuitous calendar gifting :)

And Kirby, I think Veronica's natural hair color is dark like Maite's. I like her hair here and I like everything about her. Tono's charms are still hidden but I'm giving the character the benefit of the doubt because I like the actor.

Diana

If we look at the big picture, we have Mauricio, a single Dad, Jorge, now single with children, the to be introduced boy couple with an adopted kid I assume. It only makes sense for Flor to run off with Pablo and leave MiLady with Neuron. If veronica has two brain cells she will drop Tono like the bad habit he is and go find a normal guy.

Then we will have the whole ring of Daddys.

I like him OK. He is just forever an unmade bed here. He just looks like he must have BO.

Still back on the subject of Toño's attitude. As I understand it, this is a fairly normal attitude of Latino husbands. And it is prevalent in other cultures as well. A Chinese student of mine once told me her husband would wake her up in the middle of the night to go make him a sandwich. And she told me this without any hint of resentment or anger, only bewilderment that someone would get hungry in the middle of the night. She didn't question that it was her who should make the sandwich and he who should make the demand. We are all influenced by our prevailing culture and the attitude of our parents. And cultural change comes very slowly. Although I have a feeling it will come with a Big Bang in this one!

OT One of my neighbors saw this moon photo and was incredulous, wanting to know what kind of PHONE I have. I explained that I have one of those camera things without a phone built in. "Hmmmm, well, it works pretty good doesn't it?"

Try taking a photo of the moon with a phone. It appears as a blemish in the sky.

kj

Kirby, beautiful moon photo!

JudyB, what really disgusted me was when Toño’s father told him his wife should be his “slave”. Most societies—ours included— have a very long way to go before women are treated as equals in the workplace and at home.

Diana, Valentina is sure on her own wavelength but since I don’t like Jorge either I am enjoying her rebellion. Come to think if it, I always enjoy a good teenage rebellion.

You know, my parents (?) told me a LOTS of things. Except for "Be Nice" and "Wash your hands", a majority of the rest of it I discarded as I became old enough to think for myself. (smart kid)
"No matter what your parents did to you as a kid, it is your responsibility to fix it when you grow up."

Believe me. Tono still has no excuse for being a lazy domineering slug. The only reason Vero is with him is there are not enough non-slugs to go around.

OK Happy Thursday Partioooooooo.

Good Morning everyone.

RIP Leah Labelle, who was in the 3rd Season of "American Idol" from 2004, she was in the Top 12.

good morning, all.

Jarifa, thanks so much for that excellent retelling.

I was happy to see Miguel from Vino. And now we know why that other policeman is always such a jerk.

wow, Judy!! Three friends married to gay men. No experience with that in my circle, but I do have a friend who was married to a guy whom she waited on until he started openly taking his girlfriend out to local events . We all divorced him. jerk. He was like Tono but tall, funny, and handsome...still a jerk.

well, I was wrong about the nun being too quirky to be evil.

I feel the urge to trim Flor's bangs every time I see her.

Valentina is trouble waiting to happen.

Well the patio is on fire today! Jarifa, thanks for the excellent recap of this very action-packed episode.

Kirby, "Valentina is wearing that shades of purple geometric bars dress of her former Mom's" I'm really surprised that Valentina is the same size as her mother...or is that a beanie situation? I knew Valentina was too good to be true...she showing her true colors now and Jorge is going to have a heck of a time dealing with her...poor guy, he is one that is really getting rained on.

JudyB, "And oh my, the new worker at the tire shop. Certainly a lot of possibility of jealousy on Nerón's part having a young man around the place. Let's hope that Flor is truly in love with our old dude." Diana, "ITA that Flor loves Neuron and I don't think a much younger man is going to turn her head for even a second. I'm thinking she is staunch and loyal." I'm going to give Flor my vote of confidence too; I think she truly loves Neron and I don't think she will be swayed by a younger man. If her interest in Neron was his retirement money, she surely wouldn't go for a guy who is working to go make money in the US to send to his family (IMO).

Kirby,"Tono is a short, greasy, unshaven, lazy jerk." Did I miss anything? Nope, not a thing! I've never seen this actor before so maybe I'm being over critical, but the character is a total jerk! Veronica has the patience of a saint; I hope she at least gives him a scare and threatens to leave.

Kirby, "None & Badcop" what a pair of bumbling idiots. You'd think that since the badcop is a cop he'd have come up with a better plan. I was really surprised that Mau actually thought of the app given his history. While his "fatherly" instinct to rescue Anifer was impressive and surprising, why would he not tell the cops about it. Surely the patrolling cops can get there quicker than he can...plus the fact that weapons could be involved.

About Jorge...well, I guess the patio figured out who his father was messing around with before he did...but maybe it was something he just didn't want to consider. Did anyone notice that he stopped stuttering...maybe he should get upset more often!

RGV my thoughts exactly. No matter how many sizes too small Dulce wore her clothes, that dress would have never fit on her. Val and that dress are about a 5, Dulce was prob a 9.

Oh and the coincidences start in this TN...shall we start a count? In such a big city, the "none" decides to use the same foundation where Renee just happened to tour AND fixed the security cameras.

Kirby, I'm impressed, you know your sizes well!

Thanks Jarifa!!!

Anifer looked so sad when Mau was dropping her off. She took it like a trooper though and didn't cry. I can't believe Mau was able to drive away with that sad little face staring at him.

I can't believe the nun and the cop are working together. At least that explains why he is so bad at his job. But to be trafficking children?! These are the lowest of the low. Poor Anifer!!! Thank goodness Renee showed up, with the plant, as soon as she did or Anifer would be lost forever. At least there are 2 decent cops at the station to help.

Jorge is so cold and controlling I feel bad for the kids. Dulce probably tempered him a bit. I would want to runaway if I was them.

Tono is just lazy. I hope he doesn't find a job so he can figure out all that Vero does. Also, the actress playing Vero had Maite's color of hair in Robo. I think that is her natural color. I do like her hair color in this one though the upkeep of color must be annoying.

Hopefully Neron's new worker will be so glad for the job that he'll keep his eyes off of Flor and on the work. I can't help think he is gay though. Something about his haircut.

JudyB, I watch House Hunters often and I can't tell you how many times I've seen hetero couples looking for a place and I felt bad for the woman because I was sure her husband was gay. I do have a friend that was engaged to be married to a woman but luckily came to his senses beforehand and broke it off. He is now happily married to a man and they have a family. He is still good friends with his ex-fiance.

RGV, I can only explain the coincidence because Gladys only gave the nun two options when she visited Logatoys the first time. How did she fix the security cameras? Weren't they working?

RGV I have spent many happy hours outside the dressing rooms at 579 and Petite Sophisticate.

One thing we can be thankful for is the simple greed and dishonesty in this TN. It appears None&BadCop simply wanted to sell a child to a couple who could (probably) not have kids. Anyway, that is what I'm going with.

Compare to CET where you have to memorize twelve levels of deciet, lies and subterfuge to keep it straight who is bad and who is not quite so bad.

" I think that is her natural color. " with the burgundy streaks? :-) Yeah her hair was almost black in Robo and Vino too.
Not that I am a real hair aficionado, but I was just taken with how un-artificial her hair looked last night up close. You look at most of these girl's hair and you wonder if it's protein or polyester.

I thought the same thing about that dress. When val took it out of the closet , it was one size. ...6??? When she had it on it was tight on her teeny, little body...probably a zero. Does val have sewing skills? did she have it taken in?

Carvivlie, good memory on the choices Gladys gave the nun! So maybe no beanie for this one? :-)

I'm not sure what Renee did with the cameras, but when Sonia gave Renee the money for all that she did at the foundation, Sonia made a statement like, "The thing with the cameras was no easy job." so I'm assuming Renee got the cameras working...or maybe she set them up??

Kirby..ha "many hours waiting." gave me a giggle. Hubba does not care what I buy as long as I do not drag him along to the store. I once completely embarrassed him a long time ago when I held up a half slip and asked him if he liked it. He likes red . That's all I know.

Kirby, CET make my head spin most of the time and is tiring to watch. There is nothing good that ever happens to anyone. Heck, the writers even moved Benja to his twisted granny's house. I am going with your interpretation of why nifer is being "sold". It seems to be the most logical since a "couple" was mentioned.

Carvivie, that was a surprise to me that the police officer and the nun were working together. I never saw that coming either.

RgvChick, Interesting point about the stuttering. I didn't notice it but will now have to pay better attention. Yes, the neverending coincidences: twe can add the same police officer always on duty, the same cab driver 2X. Fabian could not find another house for Mauricio but in that particular cul-de-sac. LOL but fun.

Susanlynn, I had one friend whose husband turned out to be gay after 15 years of marriage. Tragic for both of them.

Val's dress didn't bother me because I have dresses from 10 years ago still sitting in my closet. I hang on to them with some vague hope that someday I'll turn into a supermodel and look good in them! ;)

I think that Veronica had the same color hair in Vino...dark brown. I like Maite's hair color and the magenta streaks.

I gave up on CET soon after it started . This winter is depressing enough.

The magenta streaks are pretty sexy
Yikes, the patio is drinking Dr. Pepper this morning. RGV for the record, I was just standing around trying to not get caught looking at the other customers, I wasn't trying on. :-)

Jarifa, that house was the one Mauricio's Dad had owned from way back. All that stuff in there was left by him, as he used it sort of as overflow from Logatoils.

Kirby, do those stores even exist anymore? I remember 579 and Petite Sophisticate from high school. I haven't been in a real mall in a long time.

Thanks, Kirby. Now I remember. One too many shows, one too many details. . .

Carvivlie, I don't think so. They went the way of many specialty stores.
They have been replaced by 11, 13, Honey we need to talk.

Kirby, "RGV for the record, I was just standing around trying to not get caught looking at the other customers, I wasn't trying on. :-)" LOL you know me too well! Actually I thought both things!

Carvivle...like you, I rarely go to the mall anymore. When I do, it is usually the Disney Store, Clark's, or Barnes and Noble. Hubba power walks through the mall ,and we meet upstairs by the escalator in an hour. I buy almost all my clothes online. UPS delivers. I try them on. I send them back if I don't like them. Around here, lots of stores are closing. They keep building malls even though many smaller strip malls always have empty stores. ...crazy. Life has changed in so any ways in the last twenty years. let's talk about those robot calls. We got one at 1.00 a.m.the other night.

Thanks, Jarifa. Great title and recap.

She gets into the car and is talking to a lone pink pom on the passenger seat. She looks and Anifer is off running.

Squee! Best moment of the night. Run Anifer run.

I’m already on team Officer Rodrigo Conde. Finally, some real competition for Mauricio to win over Renee.

Poor godpop and Jorge’s dad living a lie all those years, deceiving their poor wives. Jorge acquired his neuroses naturally growing up in a repressed, appearances-only household. And now he’s doing the same thing to Samuel and Valentina. At first Valentina seemed worried about harming her grand godpop, but next she’s off with her friends to party.

She herself never learned how to drive. Her hubby was always her chauffeur. Jorge is surprised because he could have sworn that he saw her drive once. Aurelio looks worried. She goes on to say it wasn’t her.

Hmmm, here’s hoping Jorge’s godmom found someone to let the good times roll with too.

ITA Flor loves her old husband and won't be turned by his young helper. Have you heard the hit song on Spanish radio, "Mayores" by Becky G?

A mi me gustan mayores

De esos gue llaman señores

De los que te abren la puerta

Y te mandan flores...

Anyway, Becky G is saying old dudes bring old school romance, as well as as skills in la cama. :D

I remember 5-7-9. They would offer your friends a seat, a soft drink, and cookies while you tried on outfits for their opinion. Great customer service.

Susanlynn, the indoor malls in my old home town are going out of business. Outdoor malls seem to be the rage. My mother hates it, "too hot to be walking around outside shopping". Can't blame her. I live in NYC so there are very few malls, primarily in outer boroughs, unless you go to NJ, so all my shopping is walking around outside.

Carvivle, my daughter lived in Manhattan for awhile.

In the last few years, outdoor malls have become popular around here too. They try to make them into gathering places with upscale restaurants, movie theaters , etc. However, they have become teen hangouts just like the old indoor malls . We had a nice little indoor mall, and it was a great bplace to go with our little ones. We could grab a pizza ,hot dogs, ice cream have our portrait taken, buy the girls shoes, shop for gifts, and go to a movie. At Halloween , the kids trick or created there.

Love it when we get off topic. I too order most everything on line. I hate shopping and when something comes via UPS or FedEx, I'm like "oh, somebody sent me a present!" That somebody was me but I still get excited like it's a gift. Weird.

The only time I shopped at a mall was when my daughter was getting married in Mexico (destination wedding). I had that "must have resort wear terror" and hauled off to a store I never frequent and bought a bunch of stuff. By the time I got home MasterCard had already called me saying my card was compromised and they were changing my account. Hah! I understood their confusion. I suddenly went from a couple of tops and a pair of jeans a year to...well, a whole bunch of fancy duds. Which now just hang in my closet...but whatever. It was a grand week at the resort.

Oh and so the sexy new cop is "Miguel from Vino". Good. He has a more interesting vibe than Mauricio who looks rather vanilla in comparison. In terms of attractiveness I'd put Cop first, Mau second and Dr. Lupe a very very distant third.

Jarifa, thanks much for another great recap, you filled in a lot of holes for me. Much as I love this TN, and I do though I have to take a double dose of "willing suspension of disbelief" with some Sleepy Time tea (I don't want to be too alert, it would spoil things), I sometimes really miss those old B&W Mexican movies where people talked slow enough for me to, mostly, understand.

I like what this TN is doing with Jorge. It seems he is on the path to enlightenment, starting as a total jerk and ending with...? We will have to watch to see :-)

Re gay men married to women, it's not real common, but not all that uncommon. Nor totally dysfunctional either. Quite a few gay men become fathers, and I've read that some women actually prefer gay men. And who could blame them? :-)

Some women simply accept it. A famous case was Leonard Bernstein and his wife. What I do think is wrong is being totally untruthful to a spouse. Still, at one time people who wanted a successful career just couldn't come out of the closet.

This TN is a bit like the old movie serials, every episode ends with a cliff hanger :-)

judyb...yes , the last time I actually shopped for clothes at a store was last summer for my friend's son's wedding. I have a favorite dressy dress that I have worn to every wedding and party for about the last ten years . I love it...perfect fit..comfortable...love the colors. I considered wearing it again because I still love it, but I thought that my friends were probably sick of seeing it.

I , too, prefer Miguel to Maur. I like dark hair.

Views on sexuality have changed a lot since I was a kid. I had to take an online class for college and there were a lot of labels I did not recognize....including sexuality fluidity . I am a live and let live kind of person if nobody is being hurt.

Susanlynn, your friends were probably jealous that you could still fit into a 10 years old dress! Anyway, it's nice to have a reason, any reason, for buying something new.

I’m behind in my telenovela-watching and my thank-yous.

Thank you Cynthia Hampton, for your recap of Friday’s episode!

Thank you Rgv Chick, for your recap of Monday’s episode!

and thank you Jarifa, for your recap of last night’s episode! (and I love the title)

”Mauricio, Renée and the plant go immediately....”
What is it with that plant???

Great comments here already, not much to add.

Can’t believe Jorge was going to “out” his padrino at the 50th party. I wonder if Jorge has a single intuitive bone in his body?

I’m convinced that Veronica’s hair is a wig. There is just something about it … like it is too perfect.

yeah, does that plant have a storyline ? And where's that shoebox?

Does anyone think that Rodrigo is going to be competition for Loopy and Maury? In Destilando Amor, Ed Yanez was Rodrigo , and we had a bunch of nicknames for him..like Hot Rod.

Jorge should let it go with his godfather. His dad is gone. Just let it go.

Niecie, I love the song! Great lyrics!

Andy, so true about the cliffhangers and the old serials. This one is just fun.

doris, great to see you on the patio, amiga.

Doris, I'm with you on the wig. Verónica Jaspeado has gorgeous hair, but in this TN I keep checking out the front. I'm wondering if maybe they added a piece cause she's in a play or film production elsewhere with a shorter style and the Papa producers wanted the longer look.

Looking at the credits...I doubt Rodrigo will be any competition for Loopy and Mau.

Doris and Niecie, you have my vote on the wig/hairpiece. There was a scene where I thought I noticed a difference on the forehead hairline and the rest of the long hair.

Thank you jarifer. The Action packed episodes are my favorites.
I love that little anifer is so smart,
That gene must have bypassed Mauricio.
That little girl knew something was
Funky about that none-nun and she got
Those little hips out that car and ran
Like the wind. I Hope that figure is
Her not to smart dad.Hoping the tablet
Led them right to her.

The crooked godfather and mother, that
Figures. Jorge should come clean and tell his son in an age appropriate way
Why momma left them. Val don't seem to
Give a pigs snout.

I don't like crooked cops.That is just
Scunk stinky. I wander if Maria Cruz
Really is anifers mom.And if she isn't
She maybe couldn't stomach what they were Doing and they got rid of her.It could have happened that way, I'm Just guessing.
This show has mysteries.

Maybe if Mauricio stays around Renee
He might get some idea about using his
Brain for good instead of just having
It take up space in his skull, between
His ears. Silly daddy!

Thanks Jarifa.

You are welcome, Nina. ITA about Mauricio and his brain. : )
