Chapter
76: Lies and Assignations
Carolina
lied to Santiago, telling him that she had been speaking to Lisa, who
sent kisses and wishes to Benjamín on his happy occasion. Santiago
was feeling amorous enough to get close and begin a kissing session
with her despite the party going on in the living room. He had just
kissed her when Florencia walked in to check on whether she needed
any help. Carolina told her she didn't and told her to go back out
and enjoy herself. Just as Santiago left with the beers meant
Carolina's cell rang. She looked down and lied.
“It's
my sister-in-law,” she told Florencia.
“I'll
check on Benjamín,” said Florencia.
“Thanks.”
As soon as Florencia was out of the kitchen she answered the phone.
“Damián, I can't talk right now. My house is full of people,
understand that.” She then ended the call before he could say
anything.
Damián
didn't have time to feel sorry for himself. Raquel arrived and
entered his office.
“Hello,
love.”
“What
are you doing here?”
“I
was just passing by... no, not really. I miss you.” She walked
in. “It occurred to me to surprise you and take you to dinner.
Just you and me in a really nice place... what do you think?”
Damián
did not look happy at the prospect, but when she turned around he
blanded out his expression.
“Is
everything alright?”
“Just
the usual work things, nothing more.”
“And
what have you been you doing?”
“Nothing,
I was just here in the office. Why?”
“You
were here in the office?”
“Yes.”
He knew somehow that something wasn't right.
“All
morning?”
“Yes.”
Raquel
took something out of her purse.
“Well,
someone sent me a photo and I came to learn about it.” She showed
a photo on her mobile device. “It's from Benjamín's baptism
ceremony.”
It
was the photo of him with Santiago and Carolina.
“Why
did you lie to me? Or is it better that I don't know about it?”
Santiago,
Nacho, and Augustin were enjoying their drinks and conversation as
Nicolás and Lola talked about Mia. Lola was aware that Mia was not
happy about her working at Legato. Nicolás told her not to worry
about it. Santiago tripped on something on his way through, but his
Florencia helped catch him before he fell. Carolina told her that
he was very drunk and to help him upstairs. However, when she helped
him to the bed so he wouldn't fall again he mistook her for Carolina
and pulled her down for a kiss. Carolina came in and Florencia heard
her barely in time to stand up straight.
“Caro,
I'm sorry. But he seems very sick.”
“No,
don't worry, Florencia. Thanks. I'll take over from here.”
She
shifted Santiago over to his side of the bed. She may or may not
have seen anything suspicious.
“The
truth is I bought a little gift for Benjamín and brought it over.
That's all.”
“That's
not the point. The point is that you hide things from me, Damián.”
“I
thought it would bother you.”
“Did
you consider that it would bother me more if I discover the lie?”
She got up.
“Look,
Raquel, don't act like this. I wanted to bring a gift to Benjamín
and I have a parthership with Santiago that you helped with. I just
wanted to give the gift, stay a little, and leave.”
Raquel
studied his face for a moment.
“Well,
I also bought a gift and send it with Mia and Fer.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
“Well,
then what's wrong?”
“I
understand the affection you have for Benjamín because I have it,
too. I love him, I miss him, because I love his family.”
“You
are a great woman. Do you know that?”
She
looked up at him. He got the feeling she didn't quite believe him.
“I'm
sorry I didn't tell you about the visit.”
“Well,
then forgive me that I didn't tell you I bought a gift for the baby.
So, you want to go outo to dinner?”
“Yes.
I like your dress.”
She
suggested a place to go and he suggested they go now because he had
to work the next day. She told him she would have to meet with
Carolina the next day about the catering business. She started out.
He did not look happy because he knew that this was to spell the end
of his affair with Carolina.
Santiago
woke with a hangover. He teased Carolina about having kissed him in
a way to take advantage of him. She said he must have dreamt it
because she did no such thing. He took this to mean that this was
impossible and he was unreasonable to expect this. She told him not
to be upset; she just was having a bad day. It was because she had
to go to see Raquel about the catering business. This led to her
commenting on how the end of her involvement in that would mean she
would be home all day and would she continue to need Florencia.
Santiago's cell rang and he said Nacho was calling. It was actually
Raquel. He did not answer, saying he would call him later.
Raquel
was in her kitchen at this time. She ended the call as Damián
entered the room, asking him if he would take the kids to school
She said she was going to the foundation, kissed him goodbye, and
left.
Carolina
was making a fuss over Benjamín before handing him over to
Florencia. She asked her about the older kids and Florencia told her
they went out. She asked about Santiago and Florencia said he also
went out. This was curious to Carolina, as he hadn't told her he was
going anywhere. Nacho arrived before they got any further, asking
for Santiago. Carolina was confused, as she thought Santiago would
be with him. Nacho realized that something was not quite right, then
said, “Oh, I was confused,” then asked about the ladder.
Carolina told him it was in the van. She then asked him where
Santiago was. He did not know.
Wherever
he was he was calling Raquel, who told him she was on the way to the
foundation office. However, he wanted to see her and she agreed to
meet with him right away.
The
doctor called Raquel at home and was told by Jovita that she was not
there. Damián heard this and was curious as to why he was calling
if Raquel was supposed to be at the foundation. “Maybe she hasn't
gotten there yet,” Jovita said. Damián looked suspicious and/or
concerned. He looked at his watch as his children came downstairs
and he followed them out to the car.
Santiago
arrived at the catering hall where Raquel waited for him. She told
him she had spoken with Damián about the dissolution of her
partnership with Carolina and that Damián was talking about how one
should not mix friendship and business. She wasn't sure what to do
because she had come not to trust Carolina. Santiago actually agreed
with Damián, saying that being friends is not necessary to be in
business together. They could still make it work. Raquel then asked
him about the baptism, photos, videos, etc.
Carolina
called Damián, who was confused as to why she called him when she
told him she didn't want to talk. He wanted to see her and Benjamín.
She asked him why Santiago would like about meeting with Nacho. He
was wondering whether Raquel was lying about going to the foundation.
He wanted to see her but she thought it too dangerous. She was
working on getting him out of her head. It was as though he did not
hear her. He still insisted that they see each other.
Nicolás
and Mia sat together in a cafe and he asked her why she didn't want
his sister working for Legato. She told him he was a fool for not
noticing “what is happening between her and my father.”
Raquel
and Santiago's conversation was concluding with the idea of him
talking to Carolina to encourage her to talk to Raquel about the
business. Raquel seemed to think she could still remain friends with
Santiago despite this, but before she could explain how Damián and
Carolina arrived. Together.
Bebo
arrived at the Álvarado house and walked in; the gate and the door
had not been locked. Lola was sitting in the study, crying. She
would not tell him what this was about because she didn't want to
involve him further. She did say that she was not the person he
thought she was. Despite that he told her he loved her she told him
to leave and never return.
Nicolás
was in Alina's office where she told him he had to decide either to
continue to work for her or leave if he didn't trust her. She told
him she had spoken to his father, even telling him she was in love
with him [Nico]. He was surprised, but she told him that she was
jealous and couldn't see him with another woman. He said that he was
there to see if there was work to be done, no other reason. He had
no wish to fail and make a fool of himself. Where he had once
declared love for her and been rejected in favor of sex only, their
roles now appeared reversed. She slowly removed his jacket, saying
that they could solve the mystery of who killed his mother. “We
can do great things together.”
Nicolás
proved that he was still easy.
Rueda
went to see Andres to talk about the fingerprint test results.
“They're
Damián's.”
“The
police think that Damián killed Carolina?” Andres asked. There
was a subtle hint of triumph in his eyes.
“It's
only a hypothesis, but if your cousin doesn't talk nobody will know
what happened that night.”
“If
his fingerprints are on the gun that's pretty definite, isn't it?”
“It's
only a theory of the moment.” [???]
“Now
what?”
“One
problem. Your friend, Miguel, complicates everything. He was with
Teo in a cantina. There was cops there and one followed him. He
knew it was Godoy.”
“Godoy
was investigating him?”
“Yes,
and he saw him with Vicente. Take my advice: Wash your hands of him
and anything associated with him.”
“Miguel
is the least of this. He's not a problem.”
“No?
I don't care what you have going on with him. What he's up to will
implicate you. Understand? Drop his hand or you will go down with
him.”
Mia
arrived at the hospital to find her brother looking into their
father's room.
“What
are the doctors saying?” she asked.
“Nothing.
They're waiting for Mother.”
“Mother?
Mother is hiding with Santiago – ”
“You
don't know that. Calm down, calm down. The doctors want to do [some
tests], something to test the brain. I don't know. I talked to
Mother and she said she would talk to the doctors.”
“She's
with Santiago.”
“I
don't know. That's not important.”
“Does
Grandmother know?” She looked over to her right. Miriam was
sitting on a couch, looking as though she had a headache.
“She's
said very little. She doesn't feel well.”
“She's
a cynic. How can she visit Father when she wants to disconnect him?
You were at her house. Does she know?”
“Yes,
I was at her house. I talked to her. We'll talk about this later.”
“Okay.
You're right, Fede. If Father wakes up be can be a family again.”
Federico
controlled his frustration at this and took a breath.
“Mia,
we don't know how Father is. You're talking about solutions we can't
see because we don't know.”
Elsewhere
in the hospital Cinthia came out of Fernando's room only to have to
confront Laura, who had just arrived. As usual, it was sarcastic and
unpleasant. It ended with Laura suggesting that she visit her
cousin, who had just awakened, since she made a habit of visiting
married men.
Nicolás
and Alina were about to desecrate her desk; she was removing his
shirt when there was a knock on the door. It was Lola, who needed to
talk to her. Alina said “Just a minute” as she and Nicolás
quickly adjusted his clothing. He didn't know why Lola was there.
He put on his jacket and opened the door while Alina sat at her desk.
“Why
are you here?” he asked Lola. [Note production continuity issue
here]
“I'm
here to talk to Alina about something. May I?”
“Of
course you can. Come in,” Alina said to her. She then told
Nicolás to close the door on his way out.
He
did but he stuck around to eavesdrop as Lola told Alina about
Patricia Vargas' death, telling her that it was recorded as a suicide
but was more likely to be a murder by drug traffickers associated
with the man Patricia was involved with. She wants to testify but
doesn't know how to go about this and not be killed herself.
Raquel
arrived at the hospital to an interrogation from her truly disturbed
daughter. She ignored this.
“What
did the doctor say?”
“He
wants to talk to you. If my father wakes up what happens with
Santiago?”
Raquel
could only stare.
Nacho
and Santiago were going over photos of their completed or
near-completed houses. Nacho was excited about the profits they
would realize when they began selling the properties. Santiago was
looking at his cell phone. Santiago looked pensive and worried.
When Nacho asked what was wrong he explained that he was thinking of
Raquel. He was afraid of losing her because Damián had awakened
earlier that day and Raquel was at the hospital. There was a knock
at the door. It was the bald man.
Santiago
thought back to when he last saw him and told him that he never
wanted to see him again. He was accompanied by a younger,
dark-haired man with a mustache, beard, and a black suit. He looked
like a latter-day incarnation of Sparafucile from Rigoletto.
Raquel
started to tell Mia off when the doctor appeared. She called the
others over and asked the doctor what was happening. He explained
that they had done various tests and that there was cerebral
activity. There were lesions on the brain but Damián's latest
reactions were not reflexes. He was not initiating movement, but was
awake and it would be a slow process. He then excused himself.
Miriam said she hoped he would not be a vegetable for the rest of his
life, which earned her dirty looks both from Raquel and Mia.
“You
can't come in here,” Santiago told the men. “This is not your
house.”
“It's
open,” said the boss.
“That
doesn't matter. Tell Saldiviar that I paid and we stay.”
“We
know you've been arrested. I hope you will live up to our
agreement.”
“Everything
is alright. Go; I got it.”
They
left. Santiago closed the door and saw that Nacho was standing
nearby.
“Why
that face, Santi? Who are those guys?”
“Just
a couple of guys looking for work,” Santiago lied. “But there
isn't any now.”
“Is
everything alright?”
“Yes.
It's alright. I'm just worried about Raquel... and Damián.”
“If
Damián woke up, we'll find out what happened to Carolina.”
“Yes.
Maybe at last we'll find out what happened.”
Nacho
looked as though something was rotten in DF.
Lola
told Alina she had always suspected that Patricia's death was not a
suicide. She revealed Miguel Villegas' name to her and that he had
been with them during the graduation trip. That he had a thing for
much younger girls and that he was an associate of Andres Becker.
Finally that he had business with drug traffickers. Alina asked if
she was sure of these things, most of which she had found out during
the graduation trip and had been told to keep her mouth shut about.
Alina told her to tell her everything that happened on that trip.
Lola told her she had to keep that to herself and not tell her father
because her life was in danger. Alina nodded.
Laura
walked into Fernando's room. He anticipated the worst. She told him
she loved him and wanted to get back together with him. He didn't
believe her. He had no desire to go through any more of what the
previous few years had been. “Are you saying you don't love me?”
she asked.
Antonio's
arrival saved him having to answer this. Laura apologized to Antonio
for what she had said on the news about the department and him,
claiming she was pressured into this. He ignored this, telling her
he needed to talk to Fernando alone. She left the room and Antonio
told Fernando that he needed more information on the men who shot
him.
Andres
sat in Miguel's car. They argued. Andres told him he needed to get
out of their arrangement because the accounts were being
investigated. Santiago's lawyer was involved and the police would be
all over them. Miguel was not willing to let him off the hook. He
demanded the lawyer's name. Andres demanded other names first.
Andres then got out of the car.
Vicente
sneaked into Lisa's house and grabbed her from behind, demanding a
drink. She got away from him and told him to leave. This escalated
into an argument in which he said he would be there until Damián
paid him the money he owed him. Lisa demanded to know what that was
about. He grabbed her, pushed her through the rooms, and out the
front door, which he closed behind himself.
Mia
sat at Damián's right side holding his hand. He no longer had a
ventilator. The nurse told her and Federico that he would recover
little by little. Federico took his left hand; both said they felt
him grip their hands back. He appeared to be breathing normally.
Mia said that this meant they would be a family again.
Miriam
went to the doctor asking what was going on with her son and what she
needed to do. “Will he move? Will he talk?”
“We
don't know yet. We have to be optimistic.”
“How
much time?” Raquel asked.
“We
don't know definitively. At this moment Damián is in a state of
minimal consciousness.”
“But
he will advance?” Raquel asked.
“Yes.
Also, his extremeties are respsonding, his eyes open, but he isn't
focusing on anything yet. We have to be patient. It's a beginning.”
“I
understand,” Raquel said.
“You
will need to go to reception to resolve the bills and insure Damián's
recuperation.”
“Of
course, Doctor,” Miriam said. “I'll pay whatever it takes.”
“Excuse
me.”
“Thank
you, Doctor,” Raquel said as he left.
“What's
important now is that my son recovers and tells us the whole truth.”
“Yes,”
said Raquel.
“At
last we will know who did all this.”
“Yes.
I also want to know the entire truth. He'll also be interested in
all the pain you caused his children and now Benjamín.”
“And
he will also be told you're having sex with Santiago.”
“I
will be in charge of this family.”
“We'll
see now their real father is awake.”
Chapter
77: Family Feud
Alina
told Lola not to do anything other than to stay away from Miguel and
Andres. They needed proof. Lola told her about the letter she had
received from Patricia, which Alina told her would be proof.
However, that letter is in Laura's hands. Alina told her that she
would speak to the appropriate offical and that their conversation
was confidential and she was not to worry.
Nicolás
was just outside and heard what Lola told Alina. They started to
argue, then Lola left. Alina told Nicolás to say nothing about this
because of how Santiago was likely to react. He needed to protect
his father. She sent him back to work, then made a call saying she
had a proposition.
Antonio
and Fernando discussed the case. Garrido (the guy who stole the
credit card) is connected to the drug traffickers. Antonio was sure
that he would end up dead to insure his silence and somehow this was
connected to Carolina's murder. Antonio told Fernando that Damián
woke up and that he was hoping that Damián knew who killed Carolina.
Fernando was ready to get up and leave, but fell back in pain.
Antonio reminded him that the company's finances were being
investigated and that they needed to take action before the narcos
did.
Alina
met with Rueda, telling him that the two of them could benefit from
this situation. Rueda told her “Not so fast” and that he was to
deal with Andres personally. He also clearly wasn't sure whether he
could trust her or not.
Santiago
and Nacho wrapped up what they had been doing. Santiago missed
little Benjamín and told him so. He also wondered why Carolina had
been so deceitful and cruel through all that. Nacho told him that
everything would soon be alright before he left.
Santiago
called Raquel who told him what the doctor said about Damián. She
barely finished telling him about the lesions when Mia came out
thgouth the doors. Raquel ended the call, saying she would talk
later. Mia realized whom Raquel was talking to and hounded her to
leave Santiago or Damián. [The little bitch is due for another
slap or two.]
Miriam
took a pill while waiting for Andres to meet her in an outdoor cafe.
When he arrived she told him that Raquel was out of their control.
She was going to have more power now that Damián has awakened.
Meanwhile she still had Benjamín and couldn't take this situation
anymore. She feared ultimately losing control of the company now
that Federico was against her. Andres told her that he could control
Federico. He claimed that Federico didn't know about all the money
involved in the situation. It appears that Miriam knew about the
money Andres stole but knows nothing of theh money laundering.
Andres then told her that he was taking over and what he says goes..
Raquel
went into Damián's room and sat by his bedside. He moved his left
hand without her touching it. She then touched it and said he didn't
love her so it was all over between them. What was going to happen
now?
She
remembered the conversation following Damián and Carolina's arrival
at the catering hall. It was confrontational about the lies told
about where and with whom each was going to be. Damián claimed to
be there to facilitate a business reconciliation, as Santiago had
done. Raquel was the least trustful of the four.
Nicolás
demanded that Mia tell him what had allegedly happened between Lola
and Damián. She said she had seen an affectionate interaction in
the office. Nicolás was outraged at her constant accusations of
others and she answered by asking him whether he realized that Lola
liked older men. Nico got fed up and left just as Fede arrived to
see or hear the tail end of this. She told him what she had told
Nico. He looked shocked.
Antonio
and Fernando talked about Laura's accusations that Fernando wrecked
her career. Fernando said that Laura was sick. Antonio knew that
the bullet wound was not Fernando's fault but didn't know what to do.
Fernando took off his badge and offered his resignation.
Nico
went home to talk to Lola. Florencia told him she was upstairs in
her room.
A
three-way argument took place between Damián, Raquel, and Santiago
about the real purpose of the meeting at the catering hall. Carolina
watched, almost looking amused at the myriad accusations regarding
lies and motives. Santiago tried to get everyone to agree to
postpone the original discussion until they were all calm. He got
Carolina to leave with him, then Raquel and Damián's part of the
argument continued. She accused him of trying to “put me in my
place” in front of the others. He had accused her of lying when
she told him she was going to the foundation because he found her
with Santiago and then assumed that this was not the first time.
On
the way to the car Santiago tried to talk to Carolina, to find out
what was really going on. She counter-accused him regarding his
meeting with Raquel. The phrase “compromising situation with
another woman” came into this. She actually accused him of having
an affair with Raquel.
Nicolás
confronted Lola over what Mia told him. She told him that she and
Damián had only been talking. She further said that Mia was a sick
chick who was now infecting him with her sick accusations. She
reminded him of Mia's false accusations against Nacho. He got angry
and walked out, with Lola following him. Florencia watched the
latter part of this.
Santiago
told Carolina that he was talking with Raquel to save their
partnership because it was good for her (Carolina). He did that
because running a business was good for her and made her happy. That
he was incapable of cheating on her. Finally he opened the car door
and she got inside.
Damián
and Raquel had argued and she decided she had had enough. However,
it didn't end because she emphasized that she had not lied to Damián.
It continued into another territory, which was that she resented his
interference in her business affairs. He tried counter-accusing
against Santiago, but Raquel closed the argument and walked away.
Andres
got off the phone at the office and told Miriam it was time to
celebrate because an employee told him that “The slut and the
construction worker are fighting with Raquel and Damián.” She was
amused, as though the two of them had stage-managed the situation.
He told her that this was worse and she asked whether it was about
the adultery. He wasn't told any details but said that the bomb had
finally exploded. Miriam was satisfied.
Lola
went over to the Becker house to confront Mia about her nasty
accusations. This exploded into a catfight. Nico and Fede ran in
and broke up the fight, each holding off his own sister. Mia accused
Lola of “destroying my family” with more name-calling.
Santiago
and Carolina got home to Florencia's report of Lola running out and
Nicolás running after her in an argument about Mia. Santiago tried
calling Nico's cell phone and got his voice mail.
Raquel
arrived home to Jovita telling her there had been a fight. She went
upstairs to investigate. The argument restarted with the young men
keeping the two girls from killing each other. Raquel entered and
demanded to know what was going on.
“Your
daughter is sick!”
“Lola,
why did you say that?”
“Because
your daughter accused me of having sex with her father.”
Raquel
looked at Mia, who looked a combination of stubborn and guilty.
Antonio
went to the hospital to talk to Damián's doctors. He told Raquel
and her children that from this point Damián is in police custody
because he handled the gun used to kill Carolina. Mia said that her
father didn't do it, but Antonio said that while this didn't prove
that he discharged the gun, it was the only information they had.
Damián would need to make a statement. Raquel pointed out that he
had just awakened, Federico said this was absurd, and Mia demanded to
know why the police don't leave them alone. Antonio apologized to
Raquel, saying that a policeman will be on duty in the hospital for
the duration and that he wanted to talk to the doctors now and to her
the next day in his office. This was about irregularities in the
accounts of the catering business.
Laura
was being made up to go in front of the camera when Claudia Olmos,
Patricia's mother, approached her. She dismissed the makeup staff to
talk to her. Claudia told her she had spoken with Lola, then
Miguel's name, and asked her help. She didn't trust the police and
thought that the press would be the only people willing to help her.
Laura listened with a poker face but said nothing.
Miriam
was on the phone when Santiago arrived insisting upon seeing
Benjamín. She hung up the phone when she heard his voice and
demanded to know what he was doing there. He said he was there to
see Benjamín and she threatened to call the police. She had her
phone in hand as Santiago ran past her into the next room where the
nanny and Benjamín were. He picked up the child who was happy to
see him. Miriam called the police but gave no detail. She covered
the mouthpiece and warned Santiago that this was his last chance. He
reluctantly handed the child back to the nanny, telling him he will
get him out of there, then left. Miriam told the operator that there
had been a mistake, and watched Santiago walk away.
Andres
went to see the narco Miguel identified. He was searched when he
arrived. When he identified himself as the launderer he told him
that Miguel had given him his name. He was invited to sit down
whereupon he told the man [whose name was not given to us] that
Miguel had become a nuisance to both of them. This narco was not
very trusting, thinking that Andres might be looking to eliminate him
so why would he be interested in helping him. Andres told him that
he would lose all his money because he himself was the only one with
access to it. The investigating police need a guilty man and he
proposed that Miguel be the nominee.
Nicolás
tried to get Lola to tell him more about the situation but she wasn't
willing to, repeating that Miguel Villegas was dangerous due to his
involvement with drug traffickers. Nico reminded her that since
Miguel was connected to Andres they could also be responsible for
their mother's death and for what happened to Damián.
Rueda
took coffee with Miriam at her fancy dining table as she told him
that Andres would be managing things from that point on. He knew
that there were things going on prior to Damián's accident and told
Miriam that she had been Andres' accomplice. He asked about foreign
bank accounts and she told him that those contained money that came
out of the business. He informed her that this constitutes
embezzlement if the money had been concealed from Damián. Miriam
claimed to have been hiding the money from Raquel but Ruedas told her
that she had to denounce Andres. She also had to stop seeing Raquel
as the enemy and to gain Federico's confidence. If she failed to do
that there would be very serious problems. She nodded reluctantly.
Laura
went on the air talking about the fingerprint report. She also
talked about how Patricia's death was not a suicide. Her co-anchor
brought Lola's name into the story as a potential witness and Miguel
Villegas' name as a suspect. Of course, Lola salivated over the
connexion between the cases.
At
home Raquel explained to her children that she had to see the police
regarding the financial records from the business. Mia went on about
only wanting her father to wake up and put a stop to all of this,
which irritated Raquel further. Mia lstarted to leave the room,
saying she was hungry. Raquel got a call from or about Santiago.
She said she would be right there. Mia stood in her way as she
turned toward the door, asking where she was going.
The
narco poured Andres a drink and sat down, saying he admired his
courage at approaching him. Andres told him that Miguel put his
business at risk and that he had the solution. The narc asked where
his money was and Andres told him that if nothing happens to himself
he will get his money. Miguel was a liability to both of them. This
ended with the two downing tequila shots under the eyes of the narc's
bodyguard.
Santiago
was in Damián's hospital room.
“Are
you asleep because you can't face me? Why did you steal my wife?
Did you know she was pregnant by me when the accident happened?”
He walked over to the bedside. “You killed my child. You
abandoned Benjamín. I will fight for him until the end. With my
life if necessary. I love Raquel and I will defend her from you
always. I would like you to wake up and open your eyes and look at
me well. I want to kill you with my own hands.”
Damián
opened his eyes and looked at Santiago. They locked eyes without a
word.
