Papa a Toda Madre #13 2.1.18: Labor Law Lessons from a Chipmunk

Or "Like Father, Like Daughter"

Anifer hides in an abandoned building and screams when a shadowy figure appears.

Moments later, Enriqueta drags Anifer outside and warns her to be quiet. She attracts a crowd of people, who ask for her blessing, and Anifer begins to scream for help and bites Enriqueta. Enriqueta quickly explains that Anifer is off her meds and she has to get her home soon.

As the onlookers ask her for blessings, Enriqueta stuffs Anifer in the car and drives away.

Neron closes the shop for the day and congratulates Pablo on being a quick learner. When Flor asks Pablo where he lives, Neron quickly laughs it off and calls women “nosey.” Pablo agrees and Flor notes that his accent is weird but Pablo explains that he lives all around. Neron then gives him some money and Pablo thanks him but quickly tries to speak in “Mexican” Spanish before running off. Flor looks unconvinced.

Valentina is with her friends and the guy offers her drink but Valentina shakes her head. Her girl friend takes a sip and Valentina finally agrees and takes a sip. They encourage her to keep drinking but the lament the fact that Jorge will now be more watchful of her actions.

Outside the shop, Flor wonders what they will do now, since they have no extra money and Neron promises to try to get his retirement check. Flor offers to go talk to the husband, much to Neron’s annoyance, of the woman who owns the banquet hall so they can explain the situation. She also chides Neron for giving Pablo money on his first day and he explains that he is giving the kid a vote a confidence and it wasn’t that much. Flor finally agrees and they go home.

In Mauricio’s car, Renee gets a reading on Anifer’s locating as Mauricio prays that Anifer will be alright, much to Renee’s shock and amazement.

She tells him that Anifer is close and instructs him to drive in the direction she indicated, which is by the airport.

Anifer screams for Enriqueta to let her go as Enriqueta demands she be quiet and calls her partner to ask him to meet her up soon.

Renee and Mauricio try to go in the right direction but they are having some trouble working together. They finally get the hang of it and arrive soon after. Mauricio wonders what they will do if they come face-to-face with Enriqueta and her accomplices, as he is more brains and beauty than brawn, and Renee decides to call Rodrigo to let him know where they are. Mauricio agrees but decides to get some car tools to fight, just in case.

At the station, Rodrigo and his co-workers look at the plates of the car that took Anifer and find out it belongs to their co-worker, Agent Honofres.

Just then, Rodrigo receives a call from Mauricio and informs him that Honofres is Enriqueta’s accomplice. He then asks Mauricio to send him their location, so they can meet them, and Mauricio agrees before hanging up.

Valentina, now dizzy, tells her friends that she doesn’t want to drink anymore, especially because her father will blow a gasket if he notices. She then receives a call from Jorge, who tells her that he is on his way home to tell her about Aurelio, and Valentina hangs up. She then says goodbye to her friends and walks home as her friends go home another way. Turns out that they were hanging out by a small park next to the cul-de-sac and neither of them notice Jorge, who has seen everything, sitting in his car a few feet away.

Honofres arrives at the car and gets in as Enriqueta drags Anifer to their pre-determined location. She then calls Honofres but he can barely talk when Rodrigo arrives and asks him what he is doing there. He also warns him not to try anything as there a reinforcements close. Also, he is dying to know why he is blackmailing people using the information contained in police reports. Rodrigo doesn’t notice that Honofres left the phone on and Enriqueta heard everything.

Enriqueta curses her luck, hangs up, throw Anifer over her shoulder, and keeps walking while demanding the girl be quiet.

Mauricio and Renee arrive then but Enriqueta points a gun (conveniently covered by her habit) at Anifer and warns them to stay back or else.

Jorge arrives home and instructs Samuel to go upstairs as he has to talk to Valentina. He grudgingly leaves as Jorge takes Valentina to the dining room table and tells her that Aurelio is okay but there are more serious problems, namely, the fact that she can be in trouble with the law because of what happened with Aurelio. Valentina shakes her head.

Enriqueta warns Mauricio to stay back or Anifer will get hurt. Mauricio looks at Anifer, who signals at Enriqueta’s feet with her eyes, and Mauricio slightly nods. Anifer steps on Enriqueta’s foot and runs toward Renee as Mauricio tackles Enriqueta to the ground.

He holds her down as Rodrigo arrives to arrest her. They take her away as Anifer runs to Mauricio, who checks her from top to bottom, and hugs him. Renee smiles wide when she sees them.

Valentina begs Jorge to help her, especially because it was an accident, and Jorge promises to help, within the confines of the law. Valentina goes to ask him and begs for help but Jorge smells the alcohol on her breath and asks her to breathe on him. Valentina storms off and chides her for thinking of unimportant things right now.

Rodrigo fills Mauricio in on the investigation against Honofres and worries that people won’t trust the police because of him. Mauricio tells him not to worry, as everyone is different, and Rodrigo explains that the dynamic duo was taking Anifer to the US, to sell her to a wealthy couple. He also asks Mauricio to give him the anonymous letter he received, as is it proof of their crimes, but Mauricio states that it was about Anifer’s mother and asks him for a rain check as Anifer is tired. Rodrigo agrees and asks Mauricio to trust him, as not all police officers are the same, and they shake hands.

A few feet away, Renee asks Anifer to breath deeply as she’s scared but it is all over. Anifer states that she feels better but she was really scared because the nun lied. Renee gives her a big kiss and assures her that she and Mauricio are there for her, especially Mauricio, who did everything he could to find her. She then tells Anifer that she’s brave but Anifer doesn’t think so; Renee explains that she survived her kidnapping and that takes strength. Anifer nods and confesses that she misses her mother so Renee assures her that she can count on her and Samuel for support in the meantime. Anifer smiles and they hug.

Samuel sits on his couch as Jorge comes and asks if he needs the password for the computer to do his homework. Samuel states that he did it already and Jorge nods before, awkwardly, offering to talk about Dulce’s abandonment. Samuel states that he doesn’t need to, as is it very simple: his mother left her for a man and that’s that. He does ask for information on the lover but Jorge shakes his head. Samuel, dejected, asks Jorge not to ask him to talk if he’s not going to say anything.

Mauricio talks with Anifer and apologizes for leaving her with Enriqueta. Anifer tells her that he did nothing wrong but Mauricio confesses that he didn’t take care of her like a father and asks her to forgive him. She does and gives him a big hug as Renee looks on. He then asks Anifer if she’s hurt and Anifer shows him her wrists. Mauricio declares that that woman was a witch and Anifer agrees as she told her they would go see Maria but it was a lie. Anifer then asks Mauricio to call Maria, again, and he promises to call her once her mission is over. He then promises to never let her go again and to give her his last name. Anifer smiles wide, as does Renee.

That night, Mauricio arrives home with Renee and Anifer. He then asks Renee why she’s staring at him and Renee confesses that he has a lot more talent as a father than she thought. Mauricio declares that he does not but Renee reminds him that he handled Anifer’s kidnapping perfectly and didn’t even ask Fabian for help, as he always does. Mauricio nods but doesn’t think he would be a good father. Renee tells him that you learn to be a father when you learn to care and take responsibility for your child. Mauricio asks if her father taught her that but Renee shakes her head and reveals all she knows about her father: he was an employee of Logatoys, he met her mother there, and promptly left her the day she was born. Mauricio laments this but asks if she knows anything about him. Renee doesn’t even know if he’s alive but she doesn’t lose sleep over it because he never gave himself the opportunity to be a father, unlike Mauricio. They look at each other for a second and then Mauricio goes to get Anifer from the backseat as Renee apologizes for the scandal she caused at Logatoys. Just then, Lupe arrives and sees them before calling Renee, who ignores his call. He walks toward then, asks if he is interrupting, and Mauricio shakes his head, grabs Anifer from the backseat and leaves after saying good night.

Once alone, Lupe notes that she is closer than ever to Mauricio before stating that he came to celebrate with wine, because he is a candidate to study abroad, and has news that could help her own studies, but he would rather celebrate later, when she’s not busy. As he walks away, Renee wonders what happened.

Mauricio carries Anifer inside the house but notices she is asleep and they laugh over her sneakiness. He sits her down in bed and asks her about the contents of her book bag, as it’s heavy, before taking out a folder. She explains that she took his toy designs and made them before. Mauricio chides her for drawing over his designs, though Anifer reminds him that it was in pencil and can be erased, but then notices how much better her designs are and smiles.

The next day, over breakfast, Veronica instructs Tono on everything he needs to do before the day is out and asks him to call if he gets stuck. She then screams for the kids to come down but Tono surprises her by merely whispering for the kids to come and they do so, immediately. He then sits them down to eat and they follow his orders to the T as Veronica looks out, shocked.

At Logatoys, Fabian chides Mauricio for not telling him what happened with Anifer. Mauricio tells him that everything happened too quickly and then goes to show him Anifer’s drawing. Fabian is quite surprised by the girl’s talent and Mauricio hopes one of her designs will save the company. Fabian reminds him that they have no money for extra for new designs but asks him to talk to Leopoldo, alone, and see if he accepts.

At the association, Renee fills Sonia on what happened with Anifer and they lament how often children are hurt because of their parent’s choices. Renee then offers to help the association any way she can and Sonia thanks her for her eternal commitment to their cause and to the foundation.

Flor is waiting to be attended at the pharmacy when an older woman in line tells her that Milady is beautiful. Flor thanks her and then the old woman asks about Neron, since he was attacked at the garage, and Flor is shocked to hear such a thing happened as se had no idea.

Veronica calls Tono to ask if the kid’s got to school okay and he tells her yes. He then asks her about the grocery list but Veronica tells him she will take care of it as he barely knows how to do it himself. She asks that he concentrate on the list of errands and reminds him to take Tania to ballet and the boys to swimming. She then asks him to look over Ernesto’s homework but decides against it as it will take him all afternoon. Tono tells her that he can handle it but Veronica is doubtful.

Sometime later, Tono arrives home with the kids and goes to prepare dinner but they trick him into taking them out for hamburgers. Tono agrees but instructs them to get changed for ballet and swimming, respectively, and put all the dirty clothes in the hamper. They agree and go off.

Jorge goes to pick up Valentina and Samuel, as he doesn’t have to go back to work and they don’t have religion classes, but Samuel is missing. As they wait, Valentina asks Jorge if she can go live with relatives elsewhere but Jorge tells her that she must stay and take responsibility for her actions as evading the problem won’t solve anything. He then puts her in the car and goes off to find Samuel but doesn’t notice that he left his phone in the car.

Tono sorts out the whites from the colors with Ernesto and they put an excessive amount of detergent before closing the wash and turning it on. They think it’s easy and leave but, after a few seconds, the washer starting to vibrate and drip soapy water.

Jorge arrives at Samuel’s classroom and finds him fighting another kid. He separates him them and the kid runs off as Jorge demands Samuel tell him what happened.

Mauricio shows Leopoldo Anifer’s designs and explains that the designs could be what they were looking for. Leopoldo is unsure, and looks the designs over, but ultimately, decides to invest more money so they can put out prototypes…on one condition…

Jorge sits Samuel down and confesses that he’s shocked to learn he’s a bully. Samuel tells him that he didn’t want to but he needs to defend himself as he will be bullied otherwise, and that’s not counting the fact that his mother also abandoned him.

Jorge shakes his head and tells him that that is between his mother and him; he then tells Samuel to wait in the car as he has to talk to the priest.

Mauricio wonders why Leopoldo has a new condition, after they agreed to something else before, and Leopoldo reminds him that, if he wants him to invest more money, they need a new deal; the new deal consist of Leopoldo having a say in the creative side as while taking care of the administrative side of Logatoys. Mauricio insists that all he needs from Leopoldo is his money, as he will handle the designs, and Leopoldo is happy to see him be so assertive. He smiles, writes a check and hopes the toys are a success (or else) before handing Mauricio the check.

At the shop, Neron and Pablo talk about how they met when Flor comes in and demands to know how everyone knows he was assaulted except her. Neron explains that nothing happened, and they didn’t want her to worry, and Pablo agrees. Neron then asks Pablo to leave, immediately, and Flor demands to know how she met Pablo. Neron struggles for an answer.

Mauricio tells Fabian that he got the money from Leopoldo but is wary to use it as he seemed to hand it over with bad intention. Fabian asks him not to worry, as nothing was signed or agreed on, and Mauricio promises to focus on the design. Fabian then asks if they should focus on using European designs, which are tried and true, but Mauricio wants new designs. Just then, he gets a call from Gladys, who demands he take Anifer off her hands, and Mauricio asks her to come in.

Gladys comes in moments later and leaves Anifer with him and walks out with Fabian.

After a moment, Mauricio shows Anifer some crayons and asks if she’s ready to work. The little girl looks scared and confused.

Flor chides Neron for trusting everyone but her and then chides him for being so jealous of her all the time. He tries to explain but is saved when a client walks in. He races to attend him as Flor tells Milady that Neron can be insufferable sometimes.

Anifer shows Mauricio an updated design of his original dog but Mauricio declares that it’s untouchable. Anifer tells him that she made the design better but Mauricio tells her that she has not right to change his design.

Anifer threatens to go on strike and Mauricio wonders where she learned that. Anifer tells him that her mother did and the demands to talk to her, not later or tomorrow, but right now! Mauricio wonders how he will get out of this one…

Alfredo, thank you for your most excellent recap. I was in and out last night so I really needed it!

It was sad seeing Nerón being dishonest to Flor. His age may not threaten the relationship but his lying might, Here is hoping that he tells her the truth soon.

I also was happy that the kidnapping was a short event. The rapid turnover of events sure keeps my interest up.

I loved Anifer accusing Mauricio of “child labour” (exploiting her). Her mother taught her a lot.

Yes, Lupe is getting weird. Renée needs to take care of getting rid of him ASAP: a complete break.

Thanks for the detailed recap and all the screen shots Alfredo. And hope your jam-packed week was filled with fun things and not stressful things. Or at least a reasonable mix.

Well, as Mauricio is slowly developing more attractive qualities, his counterpart Dr. Lupe is developing creepy ones. We all know where this is going. (Although I'm still thinking about that hot, righteous detective.)

Nerón's lack of honesty seems to be endemic. Didn't tell sons about Flor, didn't tell Flor he was keeping her a secret from his family, ditto keeping the baby a secret, now this new subterfuge about Pablo. Lack of honesty is one of many factors that erode and degrade a relationship. However, this is a comedy so I assume eventually all with end well with this May/December couple.

The overflowing washing machine shtick has been used a lot, ever since that wonderful movie about a Detroit car exec losing his job and having to run the family for a while. (I'll recall the actual name of the movie at 3 am I guess.) I still remember him draining pasta, (or was it Chinese noodles) through a tennis racket and ironing while listening to soap operas.

Anyway, I digress. Sounds like a fun episode. I'll look forward to watching it later. Thanks AAA and hope that you can catch your breath over the weekend!

Alfredo, this was great - your screen shots were wonderful.

Loved the title!

"Anifer hides in an abandoned building and screams when a shadowy figure appears" is but one example of your ability to convey events clearly and concisely.

Hated every minute of Anifer's abduction. What really disturbed me was the crowd that had gathered as Enriqueta forced a child who was hysterically crying into a car. One woman had her hands over her mouth, clearly sensing something was wrong but doing nothing. In today's world, little is sacred. It is sad but true that just because someone wears a doctor's coat or clerical garb and habit, they may not necessarily be above reproach.

Valentina and Samuel need counseling. Although the children here have much growing up to do, so do the adults who should be tutoring/mentoring them.

Flor seems pretty intuitive and I don't think Neuron will get much past her." His age may not threaten the relationship but his lying might" was spot on Niecie.

Anifer is talented. It would be great to have this father/daughter team save the company. And themselves in the process.

Thank you Alfredo!

Diana

Mister Triple A. Great, great. And the screen shots are the icing on the cake.
The best part of this show thus far was when Anifer ran to her DADDY after he had rescued her.
Though interesting, the rest of the show looked like filler compared to that scene.

Like I said before, is Tono capable of anything above the level of sitting and watching YouTube videos? If he can't master the operation of something with only three knobs on the front,(wash, rinse, and load) how did they ever train him to drive a car? It is too bad he has their children in collusion with him in his deception. It appears the lowly washer may be the one to blow his cover. turd.

Nothing like having your clothing fit well when you have Flor's body. Did her jeans come from a sewing machine or an aerosol can? WOW I'm not complaining. Fasten your seatbelt Neuron, looks like a wild ride.

At least in Mauricio's next calamity he will not have to face BadCop. Using his own car? And it looked like a two dollar junker from the salvage yard? Looks like he needed the money. Hmmmm

Who predicted Anifer's toy designs might become important a few episodes ago? I can't remember but it look like you nailed it.

Morning Alfredo and Kirby...Morning spectacular avatar.

I also wanted to make an apology for a comment I made on Renee's wardrobe early on.

I chided her a bit for wearing leather/pleather jackets one minute and emoji t shirts the next.

On the grammys, the multi talented Cardi Bsported a similar emoji t shirt in one of the shots.

This proves (once again), I know nothing. Any illusion that I might be a bit of a fashionista disappeared the moment I realized I am not in trend, nor in fashion. :)

Diana

Good morning Judy!

I believe the movie you are thinking about was Mr. Mom with Michael Keaton.

Totally agree with you and Alfredo regarding Mauricio and Lupe. Jealousy is rearing it's ugly head quite a bit here although in different forms. For Neuron, it sems from uncertainty. From Lupe, from covetness. And "I'm still thinking about that hot, righteous detective.)". Love it - me too.

Diana

Yesssssss....that's the one Diana! Thanks. Didn't want to have to wait until 3 am to know. What kept coming up in this turgid brain instead was Married to the Mob, and I KNEW that wasn't it! Thanks.

Alfredo – Thank you for your recap! I look forward to watching this one at lunch hour.

I’m so glad our precocious chipmunk was rescued so quickly!

”. . . as he (Mauricio) is more brains and beauty than brawn,”
Well, I question the “brains”, no argument on the beauty, and we know there is no brawn after that LOL bar “fight” the other night.

JudyB – Mr. Mom is the film I’ve been reminded of, too. My favorite scene was a diaper-changing with rubber gloves, tongs, and safety goggles.

Toño probably will make a mess of all his household tasks, therefore undermining Veronica’s job away from the house, and hoping she will “have to” quit. And be his slave again. Classic passive-aggressive behavior. He just does not give a darn. Jerk.

Lupe is slowly crossing over into scary stalker territory. This actor also played a somewhat creepy character (El Supremo) in Reina de Corazones.

”… (Neron’s) age may not threaten the relationship but his lying might,”
So true, Jarifa! Give him enough rope and he will hang himself.

Thank you, Alfredo. Great screenshots.

What is it with Lupe always showing up uninvited? The right way would be to call the woman and set up a date. So annoying.

When Jorge told Valentina that she could end up in juvenile detention center I was wondering if he was just scaring her so he could have more control over her. I hope he doesn't abuse this situation.

This show is about fathers messing up. What will they mess up today?

I think the turning point in the show last night was when Mauricio finally felt like a Daddy deep down inside and realized that he actually does NOT want Anifer gone. And maybe we can dispense with that 'get rid of the kid' story line.

What was good was that Renee saw it too. I thought for a moment she was coming into heat right there in the car, but she was strong. Just as well, with Loopy sitting on her doormat scratching fleas.

Which BTW, she needs to return Loopy before the Pound grace period runs out. Tell them he shit on the carpet, bit the mailman, and shredded a roll of toilet paper, Sorry, but he's not working out. Thanks, bye. Vroooom

Kirby: I enjoyed the recap.

"Well, I question the “brains”, no argument on the beauty, and we know there is no brawn after that LOL bar “fight” the other night". Still chuckling, doris.

"What is it with Lupe always showing up uninvited?". I think he is crossing over into stalker territory Lucio.

"Loopy sitting on her doormat scratching fleas" - :)

Diana

Lucio, I think Jorge was just scaring her because that is where his godfather was threatening to send her if Jorge opened his mouth about his double life. It seems that that threat is the only thing he has to try to keep her out of trouble. She isn’t even 15.

Good Morning, Everyone!

MR. AAA, what a great recap and the screenshots were amazing, thank you!

Jarifa, “I loved Anifer accusing Mauricio of “child labour” (exploiting her). Her mother taught her a lot.” That was such a great scene; I cheered for Anifer!

JudyB, “Nerón's lack of honesty seems to be endemic. Didn't tell sons about Flor, didn't tell Flor he was keeping her a secret from his family, ditto keeping the baby a secret, now this new subterfuge about Pablo. Lack of honesty is one of many factors that erode and degrade a relationship.” Wise words to live by! And I agree with you, if anything is going to destroy this relationships it’s dishonesty…and Neron’s jealousy.

Diana, “Hated every minute of Anifer's abduction. What really disturbed me was the crowd that had gathered as Enriqueta forced a child who was hysterically crying into a car.” That was painful to see; I wish someone would have had the nerve to call the police. I have witnesses really bad tantrums, but when a child keeps yelling for help, there’s got to be something wrong.

Kirby, “The best part of this show thus far was when Anifer ran to her DADDY after he had rescued her.” and “I think the turning point in the show last night was when Mauricio finally felt like a Daddy deep down inside and realized that he actually does NOT want Anifer gone.” ITA, finally, Mau gets the full daddy instinct. I just luuurve watching Mau and Anifer together, whether they are bickering or having a tender moment.

Doris, “Toño probably will make a mess of all his household tasks, therefore undermining Veronica’s job away from the house, and hoping she will “have to” quit. And be his slave again. Classic passive-aggressive behavior. He just does not give a darn. Jerk.” No need to say anything more…

Lucio, “When Jorge told Valentina that she could end up in juvenile detention center I was wondering if he was just scaring her so he could have more control over her.” I think part of it was that he was scaring her, but could it also be that Jorge hasn’t fully decided that he will oust his godfather? I was also wondering why Jorge didn’t call her on that lie she told about being at home.

Alfredo, in the episode previous to this one, when Honofres called Queta (and she took off her head covering), Honofres was explaining that he didn’t think Mau would turn out to be so astute since Mau sounded so dumb when he brought in the anonymous note they sent him; so it seems that the threatening letter was from Honofres and Queta.

Oh, shoot shoot shoot, good observation Sherlockia. I missed that about None&BC sending the note.

Whew ! So we can stop worrying about that and put it to rest. I thoroughly enjoy how this show starts a dilema/story/trainwreck/anything, and ties it up expeditiously and puts it to bed rather than dragging it out for three months, or maybe NEVER (plot phone, plot pistol, ) puts it away.

Well I fact checked myself and was wrong about which actor plays Lupe. It's the actor who plays our Jorge that was also in Reina. And, well, Jorge creeps me out sufficiently, too.

Except for friggin Loopy. My only hopeo there is distemper or heart worms.

And while I have plot earrings, plot phones, and plot pistols on my mind, is there such a thing as plot stupidity? I just can't pay attention when I see a grown-ass man who can not operate a washing machine. This dumb son of a bench would NEVER get a Ryobi weedeater started, and chainsaws? Forget it without an ambulance and BayFlight and assuredly a prosthesis later on.

Ummmmm Ummmmmm Ummmmm breathe KJ

Good morning everyone! Alfredo, thanks for a great recap and screenshots! Nice job!

I did not enjoy the laundry scene with Toño making a mess of the laundry, it was just too unbelievable. An engineer can't figure out how to use a washing machine and loads it with so much the cover can't be closed? And then the machine starts anyway? Nope, I don't believe it, though I get the idea.

I do love Flor! In addition to being great eye candy she is a hoot. The faces she makes when she learns Néron has hidden something from her again are just great. I always think "Uh, oh. You're in for it now, buddy."

But why did she mutter to herself at the pharmacy, "Don't call me señora" when the clerk or pharmacist told her to wait just a bit? What else would he have called her? She, obviously not a child, was standing there with her young baby, so... Was this something about not being married?

Anyway, Néron has at least two offenses to answer for in this episode. Dog house for sure.

Thanks Alfredo!!! Lots of great comments today

I wanted to kill Queta when I saw those bruises on Anifer's arm.

Mau thinking he had more brains than brawn was hilarious. That chiseled chest must be just for the ladies.

Jorge always seems overwhelmed. If he was strict and controlling but showed the kids some love I would be easier on him. But he acts like the kids are a job that he has to get through.

Tono is clueless, lazy and looks for the short way around any topic. Poor Vero is going to have to clean up his mess. Let's see if he apologizes or comes up with more lame excuses.

Ah Lupe. I liked you on day 1 but you have lost me now.

Cop was hot. Hope we see more of him.

Milady is so so cute. All of the kids are adorable in this one.

Andy, I think Flor is upset that she is not yet a "senora;" so when people call her "senora" it aggravates her more because it is just a reminder that she hasn't gotten Neron to make that commitment.

Kirby, we still have that plot box that Renee has. It seems to have gone to the land of the lost.

Carvivlie,"I wanted to kill Queta when I saw those bruises on Anifer's arm." What a horrid monster...I'm hopeoing that in prison, they find out she hurt a child...it will not fare well with the other inmates.

RgvChick, thanks for reminding us about the shoe box. There must be a reason they showed it to us and Renée’s reaction to it.

Senora/Senorita
Or maybe it reminds her that she has an illegitimate child. Glamorous as it seems in TNs, it is still not the best idea.

just sayin......................

I might be the only one or in the minority if anyone else agrees and is unsure to say anything but i like Lupe. I don't find him creepy i find him affectionate. He is the only person trying to help Renee with what she actually cares about. He is a family friend and has always had a crush on her. He has given her her space and never pressured her with anything. His jealousy is completely understandable since he is in love with her and is afraid to lose her. He is not abusive towards her and last night he noticed it wasn't a good time and left. I fail to see this stalker status everyone is giving him and the "dog puns are getting immature and a bit disrespectful". Just my opinion.

Forgot the shoe box. And yeah I have always heard that child molesters, abusers, etc. are not held in high esteem by the prison populations whose endeavors are more honorable, rape, robbery, murder, you know. :-)

WOOF.

Are you related or something?

Ana, part of this is-- as Ferro says at the top of the CarayCaray title page "We love to mock here. Don't mistake it for real hate."

I agree that Lupe's jealousy and hurt feelings last night were certainly normal for a guy who's been carrying a serious torch for years and years. And suddenly a good looking fella with a past as a ne'er do well seems to be moving in on his territory.

The dog puns are all in fun, but you're perfectly okay in sticking up for Lupe. Someone has to.

And speaking of minority opinions, my initial thought when Flor bristled at being called "Señora" was because it sounds "old" whereas Flor is clearly a young, hot babe. I'm way beyond young, hot, babe age but I still hate it when some clerk calls me "Ma'am". And yet I'm clearly not a "Miss"!...not for decades!

Humans are funny. I remember when my older sister didn't want to buy a warm sweater she needed because it made her look "grandmotherly". But you ARE a grandmother! I answered. What's wrong with looking like one? And so she did get it. And wore it constantly as I recall.

Oh and Alfredo, forgot to say that I loved your title. I often rush right through the title to get to the meat of the recap and forget to notice it and appreciate it. A former recapper, Paula Polvorones, used to say coming up with a good title was the hardest part of the job. And some recappers do just skip it and give the episode number and the date. So thanks not only for one title but two!

Ana, you feel free to stick up for Lupe. We see what he doesn't--that Renee isn't that into him--so we feel for her when he keeps coming around.

JudyB, I thought the same thing about Flor---not old enough to be a Senora. I bristle when someone calls me ma'am. When are you officially old enough not to be a Miss? 30?

Carvivlie and JudyB, I remember being shocked when my best friend and I were it at a restaurant and they addressed us as “ladies” rather than “girls”. It was like a knife in the heart! LOL

Hah Carvivlie!...I'm 78, so I'm saying you get to be a "Miss" until AT LEAST 80! Like I said, people are weird. And I'm definitely hanging out on the fringe.

Oh yeah, Jarifa..."ladies"..that bugs me too. Sounds like you're going to order herbal tea rather than a Margarita. Another "knife in the heart" is when the doc says to you, "well...for a woman YOUR AGE..." followed by one of those "what do you expect pieces of bad news". Growing older sure takes a sense of humor. And humility.

I still blush about an article I wrote decades ago, where I referred to some elderly fellow as an "old man". (I was 30 at the time) And he called the paper and asked me "Did you have to call me that?" Lord have mercy, I'm sure he was younger than I am right now, and I'm sure I'd be hurt if some reporter called me an old woman. Even though that is exactly what I am. More Life Lessons. Dang! they're painful.

JudyB - down here in the South, "ma'am" is standard etiquette. However, sometimes it bothers me, too. LOVE the story of your sister and the sweater!!! I still am coming to grips the fact of my age (Medicare is now here) and grandmotherhood. Ooooh, spellcheck is freaking out over grandmotherhood. lol Well get over it, I am too. 😎 As the tee shirt says ---If I'd known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself. But my fave tee is the one that says --- Inside every old person is a young person wondering WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?!? Someday I am going to buy that one and wear it. With attitude. And probably a cane. 😉

Okay,,, now to fire up the TV and DVR. Wheee! 📺

Ana, one of the problems with Lupe is that Renée hasn’t had the guts to tell him she is really not attracted to him. It is like she is trying to talk herself into it and she keeps throwing him crumbs that he sees as more than what they are.

Wow! This is interesting about "Ma'am". I had no idea that some women did not like it. It is the female equivalent of "sir", and is not necessarily connected with age at all. In the military it is how a service member would address a female superior officer, or an adult female civilian.

And some women, especially younger women, tend to go ballistic when addressed too informally. They feel slighted or put down if not shown the respect due them for their professional standing or simply because they are customers. I have been told that smart waitresses, in other than fancy restaurants, can maximize their tips by calling men "Hon" but not ever with women.

I accept "ma'am" more readily when I'm in the South or I know the person is military or even older than me. It is when someone younger than me calls me "ma'am" that i bristle. It is a reminder that I don't look as young as I think I do! I need that "what the hell happened" t-shirt. When someone asks my age I can barely blurt out 44--it just sound wrong.

Ah Andy Banda...there are so many land mines when it comes to addressing women these days. Hell's Bell's, even just looking at them can get you in trouble. There was a dental assistant in the practice I went to who was ex-military. She "Sir'ed and Ma'amed people every other word. It was exhausting. I don't know how she ever got a full sentence out.

But yes, in the South the rules are different. My mom was from Kentucky which she says is a Border State, NOT the south. But you had to answer her with a "Yes, ma'am". If you just said "Whaaaat?" retaliation was swift and sure.

Doris, Carvivlie...I like the tee-shirt. And again, my mama always said to me that she still felt young inside. And I was thinking, but how could you given how old you look!!!??? Fortunately I knew to keep my mouth shut.

Thanks, Alfredo. Terrific recap and pics. Good times.

Ana, last night I felt bad for Lupe for the first time. He showed up with a bottle to celebrate being closer to university in the states and there was Renee happy and content with Mauricio. I thought Lupe would have a tantrum and I was ready to get ticked off at him, but nope he hung his head low and left. ITA with all that Renee needs to set him straight. There will be no more kisses, she's not into him that way.

So Anifer has the sketching talent of Mauricio, so this means she really is his kin, right?

Poor Jorge. He's trying to do right by his kids but hasn't a clue. And his priest counselor? What can I say? He's not the right priest for the job. Jorge needs that with it priest from Amor Bravio.

Ma'am? I'm 62 and I like it when kids I don't know call me ma'am as a sign of respect. But goodness, once a coworker who looks to be 30 something called me "ma'am" and I wanted to throttle her.

Alfredo, thanks for another amazing recap. It has been a busy day for me, and I am just now able to get here to read the recap and comments.

Ana,you can champion Lupe. Everybody is allowed an opinion! The actor playing ROdrigo was a guy named Miguel carrying a torch since childhood for the leading lady in Vino. everybody at CAray hated him , but I liked him. Different strokes for different folks!!!

My students usually called me Miss. They often seemed confused about the differences between Miss, Mrs. And Ms.

I do not like to be called "Hon" or whatever by waitresses. I always want to call them "Sweetie pie" or "Lovey" in return.

Alfredo, As my favorite singer Michael MacDonald sings "WHat a fool believes, he sees. " Some people think that if they just hang in there long enough, they can win over a reluctant person. It's like Frank and LAoghaire in OUtlander. Claire and Jamie only have eyes for each other no matter who desires them. For Jamie, it is a long list...four women and three men at my last count. Everybody wants him. However, you cannot always get what (whom) you want.

Good points Alfredo. While we are analyzing Lupe and Renee, let me put this in perspective. I have first hand experience in this area, of having the valet parking guys hide my car in employee parking. Of starting down my street with groceries and driving around until frozen food was not frozen because 'The Car' was in my drive. I had a rule that you don't DROP IN. If you want to visit, you call. If I have free time, I will tell you and you can come over. You do not drop by with a bottle of wine, new car, broken leg, anything. My time is mine and it is an invasion to just have people drop in without notice. And that is on good terms, if the person has a childish crush, it is ten times worse.

So there you have it. Lupe inconveniently dropping in ALL THE TIME is no good. The last thing you want when you need to be alone or where three is a crowd, is to not be able to even go HOME.

Renee's dad will probably end up being Falcón.....just my 2cents....

Alfredo, yes, Frank got a bad deal, but Jamie and Claire are mystically connected soulmates who were destined to be together.

Kirby..I agree. I do not like when people just drop by. I like my privacy. However, when our girls were teens and had friends who drove, we always had their friends dropping by. When I was growing up on the farm , friends of my parents and relatives were always dropping by unannounced...often at dinnertime and my mother always fed them. Everyone loved the farm.

SusanLynn I remember farm life. Your memories of dropins at dinner time sounds familiar. On farms you usually have such an abundance of food, as you grow/raise most of it. and feeding others won't send you into bankruptcy.

Renee's Dad Falcon: Holy Cow. Actually, I would not be surprised, this is a TN you know. They must be planning something fun, they do not usually bring attention to a subject for nothing. Last night Maur was asking about dear old Pop. right?

Kirby...even without dropins, my mother cooked dinners every weekend for my sister and her hubby and four kids, hubba and me and our two kids, and often my paternal grandparents and my mother's sister and her husband...and , of course, Daddy. She was a good country cook , and my dad grew acres of sweet corn and potatoes, and we had a huge garden with tomatoes, peas, onions, string beans, cucumbers, turnips , etc.

Your mom sounds like a peach Susanlynn. An abundance of love, energy and caring expressed through her cooking. Feeding body, heart and soul.

Kirby, ignore the comment i made about Renee's dad is probably Falcón......Renee did say her dad worked at Logatoys...or that's where her parents met....so Falcón would be excluded....
