Papa a Toda Madre, Capítulo 24, Friday February 16, 2018: Anifer will not accept Kika or "I am your father!"

We open with Kika on her pink phone (looks like a toy) telling whoever she is talking to that she hopes that (I assume Mauricio) will suffer and end up in the dog poo. Flashback to the past, when Mauricio was in high school. He helps a young Kika with the books she dropped on the stairwell. They become friends. Later he confronts her about some of his friends telling him that she is in love with him. She says that they are just friends and do a fist bump and declare their forever friendship. But Maur asks her, “But is it really true that you are in love with me?” Back to the present, Kika continues talking on that phone and says, “I will not forgive or forget” and hangs up then leaves.

At the baptism party Toño asks Jorge what happened on his trip because he looks like someone died. (Well yeah…) Even Renée chimes in and says he looks a lot more serious than he usually does. Jorge says it’s just a lot of work, but otherwise, everything is fine.

At Logatoys, Falcon conducts a meeting then asks Kika when she is going to be ready to release her capital for investment. She tells them it’s going to be a few more days because she is in talks with her lawyers about the investment. Falcon is not satisfied with this and presses her on WHEN she will be ready with the funding. Kika, already visibly irritated says she takes this investment very seriously. She and Falcon go back and forth and he accuses her of trying to delay the investment and pretending she was the savior to Logatoys. Finally, he tells her she has no business in their meeting.

After the meeting, Kika goes to the ladies room while Fabian asks Mauricio what he thinks of what happened during the meeting and of Falcon. “Well” says Mauricio, “Falcon is a necessary evil.” Fabian says that he does not trust Kika, does not believe what she says, nor does he believe she has all this money she talks about. Maur is sure that she does, he saw her office in Miami and everything. (Well it could still be a scam.) Fabian says that he too comes out in all the magazines but calls him “poor” and Maur resigns and says, “I guess I am. But she is rich!” Fabian says, “Maybe, but what if she is not as clean as you think she is. Maybe she just wants to use Logatoys to launder money through here?” Maur tells him he has been watching too many movies. (Newsflash Maur! It happens a lot there!) Fabian tells Maur he is way too trusting. “All I’m saying is that you need to notice where you are stepping. And what’s this that she knew you in high school?” Just then Kika comes out and tells them how handsome they both look. Gladys is in the background, is mocking her. That doesn’t sit too well with Kika, Maur or Fab.

At the baptism celebration, Jorge tells his own children that “marriage is only for one man and one woman. Anything else is not a real marriage and that is the truth.” Obviously Renée disagrees with how Jorge decides to counsel his own children and butts into his conversation to scold him. Then Rodrigo, already irritated explains they have a civil marriage. Rodrigo and Rafa decide not to argue but Renée keeps it up by saying, “don’t you think that God is love? Well then why don’t you preach it?” Jorge responds saying that in his beliefs, these are the morals he lives by. He does not believe that the “marriage” that Rafa and Rodrigo have is a real marriage religiously in the eyes of God and believes this to be a sin. He asks Nerón for his opinion and Nerón backs away. Renée takes over and makes a toast.

At Logatoys, Kika asks Maur why he is so serious. He says he is just thinking of the future of Logatoys and if she is serious about her investment. She holds up her and swears that she gives him her word in the name of Kika Braun. She wants to know if he does not trust her because a good business relationship must be based on absolute trust. “No, it’s not you, it’s me,” says Maur. I was thinking about a time when this supposed nun was scamming me.” Kika says, “And what does that have to do with me? Don’t compare me with some crook nun.” “No” says Mauricio. “It’s not that. Because of that incident, it left me suspicious because she was going to steal my daughter. One day I’ll tell you the story and the rest of the details.” Of course Kika says, “Oh yes, one day.” (Doesn’t she look really interested in the story?) Then she tells him to not worry that she will demonstrate that she is absolutely worth trusting in. “Now kiss me!” But Maur is saved by the bell. His phone rings and it’s Anifer asking him to come home. Kika makes some snide remarks about Anifer and he tells her that his blessing has a name: Anifer.

Baldo and Lili are unpacking their things. It appears that Jorge put them in an apartment. They say they miss their mother and if things don’t work out, they will return to Tijuana.

Falcon is having a meeting with someone and talks about Kika’s investments possibly causing a problem with their plans. We don’t know who he is talking to because all we see is the back of a gray haired man. Falcon says, “So what are we going to do with her?”

Maur and Kika arrive at the party. Outside the gates, Maur is reminiscing about his world travels and how much he misses them. Kika tells him once he regains his wealth, that he can send “that little blessing (Anifer) off to an international boarding school. He winces at the idea while she relishes in it. They finally walk in and Kika says, “Aren’t you going to introduce me to everyone?” But Valentina gets all “fan girl” with Kika as she instantly recognizes her. Kika then introduces herself as Maur’s girlfriend.

Baldo and Lili continue to talk and he mentions the trust their mother left for them. Lili says that they have a year left before they can get it because they have to be 18 to receive it. Lili says they need to have some patience.

Back at the party, it’s interesting the phrase that Kika uses to say she is very glad to meet everyone. “Es una hemorragia de placer conocerlos a todos.” (It’s a bloody pleasure to meet you all!) The rest don’t seem too excited to meet her except for Valentina. Kika tries to come and pinch Ani’s check but Ani turns away. Val says she knows all of Kika’s tutorials from YouTube. Jorge asks what YouTube is. (Where on Earth has he been????) Flor explains that it’s something on the internet. Toño asks next if Maur and Kika are going to get married. Renée says too that things are moving quite fast, they just met and now they are novios and congratulates them. Kika says that things are moving fast but they could end up at the alter, who knows? Flor says she has a very nice dress to wear to a wedding too. Everyone goes to sit down again and Maur is surprised at Kika and wants to know, “Since when are we novios?” Maur says he is uncomfortable and it’s better that they leave. He calls out to Anifer. Maur walks by Jorge, calling him Jacinto and asks him how his trip went. Sam tells Jorge he needs to go inside and study, so Jorge takes him inside.

Looks like Samuel is getting on an internet site that asks if he wants to turn into a “real man.”

Jorge is on the phone with Lili and she tells him they have no food and very little money. Jorge says he will drive over there with some food.

Outside, Renée, Maur, and the Barrientos talk about the children’s school and how that one might work out for Anifer. Kika becomes insulting and says, “But this is for your daughter, not for some whatever neighbor. Why don’t you take her to the best school in Mexico City?” Maur responds saying he is unable to pay for that. Kika says, “Well there are ways to pay.” Then all of a sudden Anifer runs up and Ernesto says that she pushed him. Toño wants to know what he did that caused her to push him. But Anifer admits to pushing him and says she did it to just play, that’s all. “No” says Neto. “It was very hard, now I know why no one wants you living her in “La Privada”. Veronica wants to know why he said that, but Neto says it’s because he hears the adults saying that very thing. He claims his mother Veronica says that he was only here because he had some very bad luck (literally: had earned a black scorpion.) Kika laughs and says, “Looks like they have a lot of affection for you here in the slums.” The adults are start to argue, then Anifer calls for SILENCE! Finally Anifer does admit to pushing Neto. Veronica then says they need to go back in the house because Fidelito is about to wake up.

Then Maur tells Anifer they are going to the movies, but Renée reminds him he needs to do a little education on Anifer’s behavior and shouldn’t be rewarding her with going to the movies. So then he tells Anifer “Bad girl. We are not going to the movies.” Anifer runs off and then Renée tells Maur that it didn’t appear that Anifer was very sincere in her confession and should be spoken to about it. Kika interrupts and says, “Are you going to let this cachifa tell you how to raise your daughter?” Renée has had it with Kika and says, “Don’t you call me Cachifa. Mauricio, please tell her something!” Rafa sees the trouble brewing and runs over to escort Kika out of the line of fire to offer her some tequila.

Inside, Veronica is angry with Toño and wants to know how he could argue with the neighbor like that. “Is that the example you want to show your children?” Veronica is quite embarrassed over all that but Toño tries to change the subject. He wants to know how things went with Briceño. She tells him they are going to give the position to someone else. “I’m sorry, but they are not going to hire you.” Toño is sure it is because of the epic failure at dinner, but Veronica says it’s because they found someone more qualified for the position. He wants her to do something about it, but she says it is out of her hands.

Outside, Renée and Maur keep discussing about Anifer. Maur says Anifer should stay there with Renée because she was a troublemaker and he will go to the movies with Kika. “No” says Renée. He has to stay home because he is Ani’s father and she has something important she has to do. It’s an urgent project she has to do for her masters degree.

Jorge arrives with lots of groceries for Lili and Baldo. Lili and Baldo want to go back to Tijuana. They get to arguing and Lili accuses Jorge of being ashamed of them. They do not want to go to lower class school there. Baldo says he plans to get a job. But Jorge says no, he (Jorge) is the one who will be working. He wants both of them in school and not to abandon preparing for college. He sternly tells them to not have a tantrum! He asks them to have patience and things are going to be the way he says they will be because they are both his children. “And one more thing. I am not Jorge, I am not George, I am not nothing, I AM YOUR FATHER!”

Mauricio finally has a talk with Ani about her behavior. Ani say, “So if we are not going to the movies, why is SHE still here?’ Ani gives Kika a dirty look and Kika returns the dirty look. Maur tells Ani, “Have some respect for Kika.” Ani says, “But why? I think she is fat!” Kika is not thinking this is funny at all! Kika decides to leave. Maur wants Ani to apologize, but Ani refuses. Instead, she decides to put up her “dukes”. Maur escorts Kika to the door.

After he shuts the door, Maur tells Ani that Kika is his novia and she can’t be saying such ugly things. “Why not?” says Ani. “I don't like her at all. (She actually said, "me cai gorda" which is a colloquial way of showing antipathy about another person. But it sounds like she is calling Kika "fat".)  Why isn’t Renée your novia? I like her for you.” Maur says, “What is the matter with you? Me with Renée? Naaahhhh…” Then Ani starts talking about Renée’s ex telling Maur that her “ex” is demanding a lot of money from her because she owes him. Mauricio is shocked!

Next day at the Logatoys office, Maur and Kika talk and she asks about Ani. Maur explains that she is not always like that, sometimes she is even worse. Kika asks about Ani’s mother, but then Fabian knocks on the door, comes in and tells Kika that the financial analysis is going to take longer than what they first thought. She offers to go to Miami to see what the hold up is. But Maur tells her that won’t be necessary. She says her investment will be even more than he expected. “How much more?” says Maur. Kika gives him a nasty look but he says he is joking.

Jorge goes to his priest because he want to go through the sacrament of confession. Jorge says he has committed mortal sins. (For non-Catholics, a mortal sin is a very serious sin and one that leads to separation of God’s grace and eternal damnation if there is no repentance.) Jorge confesses that before his wedding, he had children. The priest is shocked. Jorge just wants advice on what to do. The priest gives him his penance, to recite the rosary 3 times a day for a month. Plus he must have a normal family. (Whatever that means.)

Nerón wants to talk to the man who shut down his business, but he is no longer than there. He is told that he must pay a large fine. Nerón starts to get angry and lose his temper before Pablo starts to take him away.

Renée brings Ani to the foundation with her. She goes in to talk to Sonia. She is having trouble finding care for her son who is autistic.

Mauricio shows up at the hospital where Lupe works. He wants to know how much money Renée owes him because he wants to pay it.

"At the baptism party Toño asks Jorge what happened on his trip because he looks like someone died. (Well yeah…)"

Lots of funny asides in this one, Cynthia, as well as your always wonderful screen caps, including Darth Vader! Wow.

Jorge is a classic example of someone who is unable to live up to the morals preached by his church, and so reverts to truly scummy behavior to hide his sins. Not as drastic as King David's story in the Old Testament, but pretty bad. And stashing bereaved children in an apartment in a strange city and leaving them is just incomprehensible. Of course it's also incomprehensible that there wouldn't have been any friends or relatives in Tijuana that would have been involved. But I get it, necessary to the plot.

Sounds like Anifer did a lot of "acting out" in this one. Will look forward to watching it later today.

Thanks as always Cynthia for the work you do. The patio is now open! Happy Saturday.

Thank you Cynthia. I could not half follow what was going on at the Baptism dinner until I read your recap.

I have to admit I am losing interest in this show. To little plot and too much message. Case in point. Our little darling Renee needs to butt out of Jorge and his children. Whether it fits the shows gay message or not, if Jorge is teaching his children something which is embraced by mainstream populations and most major religions, and it does not involve 'killing infidels', or something of the sort, it is none of her business. Abrasive and closed minded as Jorge and his closet skeletons are, he has the right to teach his children what he believes without interference. And like it or not, if the whole world were gay, humanity would die off the planet in a generation.

And believe me, I have no issues with homosexuality. My personal belief is that if it were so great it would be more popular, like look at ice cream, for example. Who doesn't like ice cream?. But like many fringe issues, the proponents attempt to paint anyone who views them with a jaundiced eye as closed minded haters. That is misleading and dishonest, and has become far too accepted.

It is not that big a deal, and I am just tired of hearing about it. What are we supposed to do? I'm not taking one for the team to prove that I'm OK with it. Live and let live. Like I care less what kind of music you listen to. But don't drive by my house with it rattling my windows. Then it IS my business.

There, that was nice wasn't it?

Sooo which side is Fabian on?
How dumb can Mauricio be?
Has he never bedded a fake, plastic bimbo before? He sure acts like it. This should be old hat by now.
Where DID Renee get that ?Dress? I'd be in a pissy mood too if I had to wear it on TV.
Is Mau planning on getting Renee's LoopyLoan Dinero form Kikky? Good Luck with that one.

A tidbit last night....the kids have a trust fund or some such? Another TN beanie moment like family moves which require only one copier paper box. Urie didn't tap into that in the treatment of her illness?

I'm glad Vero didn't sacrifice her job in defense of Tonto. Their kids look about the right age for Vero to get that seven year itch and find a boyfriend or replacement. Maybe Dulce's man has a friend?

Flor really should run off with Pablo. Let Neuron stay home with his turtle boots.

Happy Saturday.

Judy, good point. Yurry had no sisters or brothers or friends or coworkers?
" And stashing bereaved children in an apartment in a strange city and leaving them is just incomprehensible. "
Agree. I am astonished the children went along with it. I am also mystified at the transient lives all these TN people supposedly have. Just pick up and move to a new town in an hour and a car ride? No friends to say goodbye to, schools to get out of, term papers to turn in?

I know I "root' more easily than an avocado, but when I have moved it took weeks of planning and logistics, and something more than a backpack and a Toyota Corolla.

And Jorge and his screaming about calling him Dad. I guarantee they are calling him Jorge Shitforbrains behind his back. Being a Daddy is not something like a light switch, up--light, down--dark. You become a Daddy, in cases like Jorge's. They're a lot of things to dislike about Jorge.

Thank you, Cynthia. I really enjoyed the excellent recap and with Darth Vader even!

So now it turns out the Mauricio was a real user in high school. Poor Kika was all too willing to help him with his work. I wonder how far he will get snookered down the rabbit hole before he realizes that maybe Kika does not have his best interest at heart. There still is hope for him, though, because he wants to pay off Renée’s debt.

Kika was surprised when she was told she had no vote until her money is actually transferred and the company has it in their account.

JudyB, I must admit that I found Anifer on the bratty side today, They need to find some happy medium for her behavior where she is assertive but not bratty.

As for Jorge, if he felt so strongly about Rafael and Rodrigo, he never should have come to the baptism dinner. He was a hypocrite again being offensive to the people whose food he was eating.

As for Jorge, again, telling Lili and Baldo that he was their father and not “Jorge” or whatever, was a good thing. He may be a jerk who should take them home to live but he is doing the best he can for them in his own head, not mistreating them and not kicking them to the curb. They must be at least sixteen and would be on their own up in Tijuana anyway. He can offer them more here. In telenovelaland, it will all play out.

Yes, Kirby, I was also happy that Verónica did not cave to Toño and put her position on the line for him. It must be only a matter of time before she gives him the boot. She looks tired.

I loved Flor trying to drop the hint to clueless Nerón that she wants to get married.

On to the next Capítulo!

Jarifa: Kika's got ulterior motives here. It seems she wants to destroy Mauricio even further.

Kirby: Fabian is still upping the ante.

Judy B: Mauricio is STUPID.

Jarifa, "surprised she had no say until the money arrives". Duh...yeah Kicky, just show up, announce that you want to pour some money into a flushing toilet, vote with the board, then flit off to somewhere. News flash...you need to sleep with the entire board, Hon. Then it will still only work if they don't find out about each other.

There is a fine line between cute and obnoxious. How independent and self aware does a six year old need to be?

"She looks tired" yes. more exasperated than anything. Like "hmmm...what have I done?"

Decided to watch this while doing laundry and was shocked at the priest's advice. Before imposing the 3 Rosary penance, he stated very firmly that Jorge should do nothing to besmirch his reputation as an exemplary "padre de familia". In other words, don't tell his younger kids about the twins. Keep the two families apart. Keep everything hidden.

I don't know what an actual priest would advise someone in this case, but I hope it would not be that. Part of the message that I find grating here is that the Church as a whole is BAD and foments organized hypocrisy. I understand that is how many people view organized religion today. And it's certainly true in some cases. But I don't think in all.

Just one other thing. I don't think Anifer told Kika she was fat. She said "Me caes gordo" which means "I don't like you". Rude and inappropriate thing to say. But not as rude as telling someone they are fat.

Thanks Cynthia!

I'm with Kirby. I understand Renee is speaking up for her friends but she needs to calm it a little. Not every get together has to be a war. Sometimes she comes across as really self righteous.

I'm with Baldo and Lily. Jorge is treating them poorly. But yet it is keeping with how he treats Sam and Val. No interest in their likes, wants or opinions. Just a job to get thru.

So Kika Is getting revenge for highschool. Sounds about right. Fab have Mau some good advice but Mau doesn't seem to care to listen. Still confused by Fab myself.

Cynthia, this was excellent.

"He winces at the idea while she relishes in it" and "Valentina gets all “fan girl” with Kika as she instantly recognizes her" were among many favorites.

The screen shots, especially of Darth were great. The one good thing Jorge did was tell his children to address him as their father. Although he does not deserve it, that is the truth.

"They get to arguing and Lili accuses Jorge of being ashamed of them". I think Jorge is ashamed of himself. As she should be. At this point, he is an utter failure of a father and a human being. By putting the children in a hotel rooom, alone with their gried was truly horrifying. Further, "if he felt so strongly about Rafael and Rodrigo, he never should have come to the baptism dinner" was right on Jarifa. Hypocritical and prejudiced.

Carvivlie, appreciate your noting he treats all of his children the same. Sadly.

Way too much Kika. She is all right as a peripheral caracter but the "I'll ruin you for ruining ny high scholl life" is getting tiresome. I agree with you Kirby about not enough plot. While I think there is potential for some interesting storylines but Jorge and Kika (and heaven help us Lupe) aren't it.

Judy, no priest I've ever known would ever tell a father to deny his children's existence. Absolutely ludicrous. "Part of the message that I find grating here is that the Church as a whole is BAD and foments organized hypocrisy" stated it perfectly. I tried to take it in stride as to how the clergy was portrayed initially, now I'm getting annoyed.

It's just a TN, right? Sigh.

Cynthia, thank you!

Diana

Yes, Diana, I also agree with Carvivlie when she said he treats all of his children poorly. Sadly he is incapable of doing anything else right now. I wonder what will be the event that turns him into the father he should be if it’s isn’t Yuriria dying and now being responsible for Lili and Bardo. I expect we will have four exemplary fathers at the end of this all given the title.

For a little bit of perspective on this whole preaching passing as a TN: Two very good friends of mine who live diagonally across the street are gay. I've been friends with 'The Boys' as they are affectionately called by all of their neighbors for going on twenty years. Our subdivision is a mixture of older people (it is Florida) and young families.

The fact that the boys are gay is acknowledged in the neighborhood, but that is about it too.

Out of what I see as respect, not shame by any stretch, they are not in your face with it, and do not show affection in front of children in the neighborhood who might be too young to understand. They are great neighbors and all of us who I know well never even think about that aspect of their personal lives. Their yard is always immaculate, they are good neighbors.

This is why I take exception to this show's portrayal of gay people and non-gay people's attitudes to them. Maybe in Mexico, it is different, but that is not what you see here in the US.

Good day to All! and a big THANK YOU to Cynthia for this wonderfully written recap...and the screen shots...what can I say....amazing as ever!

JudyB and Diana I echo your sentiments about the priest. Can we just "CUT"berto out of this TN? I dread seeing scenes with him because it just upsets me even more. Every word that comes out of his mouth is absolutely irritating.

I also agree that Anifer is a brat who needs to be taught manners and discipline. Her mother taught her so many good things; I just can't believe Anifer is behaving the way she is, but OTOH. a psychologist would probably say that she is acting out because of separation anxiety or some such condition...they always seem to find some medical/psychological excuse for bad behavior.

Carvivlie, "I understand Renee is speaking up for her friends but she needs to calm it a little. Not every get together has to be a war. Sometimes she comes across as really self righteous." Totally agree!

Kirby, "How dumb can Mauricio be? Has he never bedded a fake, plastic bimbo before? He sure acts like it." It seems to me that Mau is a male version of a fake bimbo...but he should be able to know one when he sees one, right?

I don't even know what to say about Jorge anymore. Instead of dumping and hiding his kids in an apartment, he should get to know them and allow them time to get to know him before demanding that they call him "Dad." Common sense should tell him what the right thing to do is, but instead he runs to the fossilized priest probably knowing that the priest will justify and endorse what he has been doing all along...denying his sins and wanting to be absolved of any responsibility for those sins.

Kirby, "I'm glad Vero didn't sacrifice her job in defense of Tonto. Their kids look about the right age for Vero to get that seven year itch and find a boyfriend or replacement. Maybe Dulce's man has a friend? I really hope she gets that itch soon.

Thank you, Cynthia.

Calling Jorge father? He is not. He is a stranger that paid their mother child support. If she went to the court I think he would have paid even more. In New York State, child support for two children is 25% of the income. Legally, Jorge has no rights over Lili and Baldo. He doesn't have custody. They should go to child services and turn themselves in. If Jorge wants to be their father, he will get the custody and all the obligations that come with it. One would be not to have the children stashed in a secret house, asking him for food.

Kirby, "This is why I take exception to this show's portrayal of gay people and non-gay people's attitudes to them." ITA with your perspective. It seems that this TN is taking some serious issues and trying to turn them into comedy...not funny...not cool!

Lucio, "Calling Jorge father? He is not. He is a stranger that paid their mother child support...If Jorge wants to be their father, he will get the custody and all the obligations that come with it. One would be not to have the children stashed in a secret house, asking him for food." Very well stated!

Thanks, Cynthia. A vivid, entertaining recap. I haven't watched it yet but feel like I was right there. Darth Vader is a hoot.

I give Jorge an "E" for effort. He did confess and seek counsel. Unbelievable that any clergy he confessed to wouldn't suggest Jorge bring kids who just lost their mother to the church for comfort and support.

Thank you , Cynthia. I was at a concert last night, so I really appreciated your recap and the photos. At first , I thought that Kika was talking into a pink flipflop. Shades of Get Smart.

I agree that this tn has too many heavy handed PSAs. Someone definitely seems to have it in for organized religion. One of my many cousins is a Chaplin in a nursing home and is a very good guy who presided over the funerals of both of my parents. Talk about prejudice. There seems to be some folks prejudiced against formal Religion.

I thought that this tn was supposed to be a comedy !

Anyhoo, lets hope that things lighten up and we can start making fun of people.

What was up with that dress Renee was wearing?

Cynthia, thank you so much for this great recap and the screenshots, especially Darth Vader, very appropriate and funny! It's wonderful that we have all our recappers who do the recaps and also comment here to help, especially, those of us who struggle with Spanish better enjoy these TNs.

I am enjoying this TN a lot. I only hope that the writers have thought everything through and know exactly where they are going and what they want to visit on the trip there. Many a novel or TN has been ruined by a lame ending.

Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I give them credit for the TN's title, Papá a toda madre, which can be complimentary or derogatory, depending, as someone pointed out quite early. Sorry, I don't remember who.

Anyway, it looks like we have a story of several fathers who are just awful as fathers at the beginning, or even worse than that. But hopefully there is redemption for them, and Mau has already started and is making progress, helped along by precocious Anifer and feisty "good woman" Renee.

And I think we may have seen the start of redemption for Jorge, the worst of the lot. He is in a tough situation but is trying his best, pitiful as that is. But he went to his spiritual advisor, Father Cutthroat, and received advice to maintain appearances at all cost, first and foremost. Much like his own father and his godfather gave him.

I don't think that sat too well with Jorge. After confession the priest twice offered his hand to be kissed, a very old custom and a sign of submission, and Jorge instead shook the hand.

That brings up one more thing I hope for in this TN, some redemption for the Church itself, or at least some explanation for the one-sided portrayal. I would hate to see what they would do to Pope Francis in this TN :-)

And I still love Kika. She just isn't evil enough, definitely not up to "Dragon Lady" standards. Well, hopefully she will become a lot more diabolical.
:-)

Carvivilie: " Not every get together has to be a war. Sometimes she comes across as really self righteous."

Yup ReKnee-jerk and her understudy Any need to not take life so seriously.

And I agree about Kika. She's a bad girl and needs to be spanked.
I mean, how long ago was High School? Unless she didn't get out till she was 28 it had to be fifteen or twenty years ago.

What is the English translation of the title?

And yes I saw that glimmer of hopeo when Kika made some disparaging remark about Any and Mau set her straight that "IT' has a name, BTW.

Susy, it appears to be (from) Daddy to complete Mother

Susanlynn, I think "Papá a toda madre" means something like "totally awesome dad." Well, no totally awesome dads in this TN as yet, not even the fathers of the current fathers, nor the priests. We'll see how they fare by the end of the TN.

BTW, this TN must be doing OK with the audience to judge by the number of paid commercials LooneyVision managed to squeeze in last night.

i don't have any problem with the priest portrayal or school nun. It explains why Jorge is so uptight. Not every person in a habit or clergy outfit is a good person. Yeah it may be a little heavy handed here but their portrayals in other tn's more than makes up for it.

I didnt think Rod and Raf were overly affectionate or pushing it down people's throats. They were like any happy, affectionate couple. But I'm a new Yorker so I'm used to such displays.

Thank you Kirby and Andy. I recognized the words for father, mother, and all ,but I could not figure out the meaning.

I hope this "comedy" lightens up soon. I am starting to miss lovable Ramoon and slightly dim Fab. No heavy messages in that one accept beware of demon gambling, do unit wear pigtails if you are over eight, and try not to be an awful old person.

A few of the many reasons I love the comments:

1. "...don't think that sat too well with Jorge. After confession the priest twice offered his hand to be kissed, a very old custom and a sign of submission, and Jorge instead shook the hand". Andy, thank you - I completely missed that.

2. "Common sense should tell him what the right thing to do is, but instead he runs to the fossilized priest probably knowing that the priest will justify and endorse what he has been doing all along...denying his sins and wanting to be absolved of any responsibility for those sins". Hear, hear RgvChick.

3. "I wonder what will be the event that turns him into the father he should be if it’s isn’t Yuriria dying and now being responsible for Lili and Bar". I do too Jarifa!

4. "And yes I saw that glimmer of hopeo when Kika made some disparaging remark about Any and Mau set her straight that "IT' has a name, BTW". I was glad for that too Kirby.

5. "If Jorge wants to be their father, he will get the custody and all the obligations that come with it. One would be not to have the children stashed in a secret house, asking him for food". Spot on Lucio

Finally, Susanlynn, I am also thinking this isn't hitting the right comedic notes. I'm sort of missing Ramoon myself :)

Diana

Diana, this is no MMTF either. LOL.

What ever happened to the second season of Doble Vida?
And that shoobocks?

Thank you everyone. I have made a correction in my recap where Anifer said "me cai gorda". I had no idea what she meant at first as I thought Ani was calling Kika "fat". But that really didn't make sense because Kika is definitely not fat. But my line of thinking was that a lot of girls will call another girl fat just as an insult because of not liking her, so I thought that was what was going on. I consulted with my son-in-law who speaks Spanish fluently and asked him about the meaning behind it. He was born in the USA, but his family is from Guadalajara, so he gave me the scoop on this colloquialism that I was unaware of. I re-watch the show late at night on Univision's online channel and a lot of times I'm tired and not sure what something means, but I do my very best. Thank you Judy for bringing that to my attention.

RGV Chick: The other day you responded to my comments regarding Jorge about the scenario I had come up with. No, I didn't mean that I thought that Jorge had left Yuri at the alter and not married her, it was merely a fantasy scenario I had dreamed up as a "what if". I am glad we finally got the "rest of the story" and found that he got together with Yuri the night before his wedding and that's how Baldo and Lili were conceived. He didn't know Yuri got pregnant and so he went quite a while before he even knew. It's good to know that he contributed to their support. But he sure got himself between a rock and a hard place! No wonder he is always so uptight, he is carrying around a lot of guilt.

Jorge going to his priest was an interesting thing because this priest seems to have no love and no mercy. Jorge wanted to confess and make himself right with God, but the priest was more intent on criticizing him.

Like Joseph Campbell said: Modern Computers are like Old Testament Gods: A thousand rules, and no mercy.
I think of that every time we see Father Cuthroat.

I certainly don't miss Ramoon, but I do or would miss Birdbrain Fabiola if only she would just walk around a while in one of her spray-on dresses and keep her mouth shut.

I very much miss Miss Ada and her hills and valleys and beautiful eyes.

For anybody interested there is a Cantinflas movie, El barrendero, on Unimas 8 - 10 pm.

Cynthia, "me cae gordo" is such a weird expression. I have no idea how it came to mean what it does. And yet I was writing to a friend today to say I was depressed about another friend with cancer and I said I was feeling "a little down in the mouth" and though, Lord, that must seem like such an odd saying to someone trying to learn English! Language is fascinating that way.

You are a fabulous recapper and screen saver and I would never have understood that phrase about a black scorpion if you hadn't explained it.

So once again thanks for all you do. None of us will ever forget how you flew out of state to help care for your ailing mother and then came back and completed a recap for us all. You are my hero.

How is it that Mau does not remember Kika? In Kika's flashback Mau uses her name, Chiquinquira, or whatever it is. How can he fail to remember that name and then the girl who went with it?

Cynthia, "this priest seems to have no love and no mercy". That is it exactly.

Jarifa, I definitely miss MMTF. Looking forward to part 2.

Kirby, I don't know about DV. Is Amar Sin Ley still filming?

Diana

Wow..Kika really can carry a grudge for a long time. We will all have to remember that when we go to the next class reunion.

You mean like when an elevator is out of order?

Anon @ 10:06 PM EST: We recappers try to get as much in as we can, but it is impossible to cover every single thing, otherwise the recap would go over 3000 words. As it already was, I had over 2400 words already This is supposed to be recap, not a word for word retelling of the show to repeat the dialogue. I usually pick and choose what I think are the most important scenes and the most relevant to the story. Plus, I do combine some things so I don't have to go back and forth so much. And yes, sometimes I leave out what I think is not that important to write about. Sorry the recap didn't meet your standards.

Anon, I “ditto” what Cynthia said. We recappers VOLUNTEER to write recaps for the Caray community. Nobody is paid. Everyone has their own style. With the limited number of recappers we have, we are lucky that some of us still choose to write them.

Cynthia, your time and effort in providing us with as much detail (with added screen shots) is greatly appreciated. As it is, it takes HOURS to write a recap and I know you have a very busy schedule with your work as well as your family. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU for your dedication and all that you do for us!

In regards to the saying "me caes gordo"...I'm sure you all know how it feels when you eat too much and you feel full and heavy and "fat." Well, (IMO) I think that is where this saying originated. It can be interpreted as "I can't stand you." "You make me want to puke." "I don't like you" etc. etc. etc....

...and yes, I DITTO what Cynthia said too!

Thank you Jarifa. Most of us recappers are very busy people otherwise. We have full time jobs, families, some also go to college, and the list goes on and on. We are volunteers who take time out of our already busy schedules to write a recap. I stay up late at night on a Friday night and do the best I can. The other recappers do the best they can too as volunteers, setting aside time in their busy schedules. I think we all do the best we can and if someone does not like it, they can go elsewhere and start their own blog. I'm grateful to be working/volunteering with the team we have. Thank you to Alfredo, RGV Chick, and Jarifa for all their hard work as unpaid volunteers.

Thank you RGV Chick. And you know how it takes several hours to do this and sometimes it's not easy because we may be already tired. Thank you for your dedication as well. My recap may not be the same as what yours may turn out to be, but I know we both to our very best.

RGV Chick, hey I learn something every day. When Judy alerted me about the "me caes gordo" statement, I hurried and consulted with my son in law who explained. So that is why I edited the recap to reflect what the term actually meant. So we keep on learning...I'm always glad to learn something new. And sometimes we have to learn from our mistakes. :)

To Anon or anyone else, you may want to read the top post in the left hand column of the home page. It is an oldie but a goodie called "The Care and Feeding of Recappers". It was true when it was written as it still is today.

Anon 10:06, these great recaps are gifts to us who are not fluent in Spanish, and they are recaps, not verbatim transcripts with additional descriptions. I was overjoyed when I found this site, it has been a HUGE help to my enjoyment of these telenovelas.

Before I found this site I would watch a TN episode and record it, then play it a second time with closed captioning on and try to read in Spanish what I didn't get the first time through. I still didn't understand half as much as I do now when I can read a recap.

I'm sure you didn't mean it that way but your comment came across as very critical. If you have questions you should just ask them. I have found people here, both recappers and others, to be extremely helpful and nice. Nice is good.

Cynthia, let me thank you again for this recap and all the others that you have done. I know you have had a lot on your plate lately, it is really great of you to carry on. I hope you continue, but don't kill yourself doing recaps. Most especially for a Friday episode since we have all weekend to read the recap, watch the show if we haven't already, and then make fun of Kika or whoever we want.

Thanks again.

Thank you Andy! You are just so very kind. I do have fun writing the recap. Sometimes it's a good diversion at the week's end. I have fun with the screenshots too and try to pick out pictures that I think that you all would find amusing. Oh and it's so fun to make snarky comments about the characters too. I am glad that 99.9% of everyone here is enjoying this patio and our recaps.

I was surprised to read the comment by Anonymous 10:06. Regardless of how it was meant,it came across as critical and I would even say "entitled". This is a Community. Of Friends, not Critics. And we greatly appreciate the time and effort, unpaid!, that these recappers put in.

It is up to each recapper to include what they want, and of course to write in their own personal, distinctive style. When Melinama first started this blog, she wrote ONE recap for a WHOLE WEEK of episodes. You can bet not every conversation was included, nor was there a set order of one scene after another.

Cynthia, thanks again, as I said earlier, you are my hero because I know how busy you are with both your work and your personal life and you stay up until a very late hour indeed to bring us these timely recaps. And if you're like me, the adrenaline that goes into that work will continue to keep you up for many hours more. So thanks from the bottom of my heart. (hmmm.."bottom of my heart"...another weird expression)

And thanks Rgv Chick for your theory on how "me caes gordo" came to be. Etymology of alang is fascinating.

slang not alang

((((Cynthia)))) I appreciate you taking the time and effort to provide us with a recap . Thank you so much. I am grateful to you for fitting a recap into your busy life. I hope that your mother is doing better.

P.s. I am looking out the window at about five inches of snow.

Have a good Sunday everyone.

Judy...yes, when you think about it, English has a lot of peculiar expressions. (Apple of my eye, pretty as a picture) It would be interesting to trace where they came from. I used to do proverbs in class and ask the students to share proverbs from their countries..very interesting .

Andy....you said it exactly right. These recaps are "gifts" provided by good folks who freely give their time and talent with no reward except the gratitude of those of us lucky enough to receive those gifts.

Which makes me think of another English expression..."don't look a gift horse in the mouth!"

Susanlynn, so sorry that you got so much snow! We lucked out with only about an inch. Hopefully you get the warmer temps the next couple of days.

Chickie ..thanks for explaining the expression. Perhaps it is similar to us saying "I am sick of you" or "I have had enough of you." I always found it interesting that my female Spanish speakers did not mind their husbands calling them "gordita!"

Wow...five inches Susanlynn! We had snow flurries here and it was lovely coming down. But it didn't stick. However Winter is not over. Jarifa and I will be getting more snow shoveling weather soon, I'm sure.

On my soapbox: Comment on “Caer gordo”or any vocabulary. Twenty one countries have Spanish as their official language. Each country has its own “dialect” complete with specific vocabulary/structure and pronunciation idiosyncrasies. Within those countries, you will find regional differences as well. With Uni, we are usually exposed to a variety of Mexican dialects. Try something produced in another country and it is a whole different story. Basic vocabulary and grammar may be the same but the local influence that gives the language its “flavor” sometimes takes some research. There is no way that anyone is ever going to know every single word/expression in the “Spanish language” native speaker or not.

Well said Jarifa. And this telenovela seems to have an abundance of new slang. Nerón's conversational style is certainly unique, same for Flor. Not to mention the different vocabulary that Pablo has. Even with Spanish subtitles, you have to guess a lot just from context.

Jarifa and JudyB, ITA with you regarding the vocabulary and the research it takes to try to decifer what is meant in particular situations. More reason to be appreciative of the recappers because they don't just give us a synopsis of an episode with a plethora of details, they also research vocabulary and other pertinent information related to the events...it could be historical data, explanations of holidays, events and popular figures...the list goes on and on.

Jarifa, I still remember that you gave us so much additional information on MMTF...about the aledrijes (colorful fantastical creatures) and the holidays. Thank you for that and so much more!

Definitely. Pablo is supposedly from Guatemala and then there is Kika is in all of her Venezuelan splendor. ; )

RgvChick, you are welcome.

Chickie..I had a student from Venezuela who told my that she used a very common word in Puerto Rico and people giggled because it had an alternate naughty meaning.

Judy...sun's out and I am watching the snow melt.

Hola Partio Pals. Ya can't fix stupid, so I (almost) kept my muzzle shut....................

I am actually surprised, the way LooneyVision is with product placement, that they don't have Rafa and Rodrigo drinking Dr. Pepper. Just Sayin......................

Susy, yes so many words can have different meanings in different contexts and different places...even within families. I remember my mom would always call us "Toñito" whenever we didn't want to share food. Why? Because she had some distant cousin who was very stingy!

Susanlynn, glad the sun is out.

And Rgv Chick, thanks for mentioning alebrijes. I didn't follow Mi Marido Tiene Familia and so missed Jarifa's information on it, but I decided to look it up and found it very interesting.

Sure do enjoy all the info I can find on the internet and on this blog. Thanks everybody.

I know one thing. Caliente doesn't mean the same HOT in Spanglish as it does in Anglish.

So..what do you think Falcone plans to do with cheeky Kika?

Susanlynn, I have no idea what Falcone plans to do with Kika, but I think I know what Mauricio's plans are. But maybe not. He is developing a real interest in Renee and, considering the dress she was wearing, that can only mean true love.
:-)

And Kika really is cheeky, isn't she?

Really late today.

Good afternoon patio! Who's table are we at tonight???

I have a suggestion. Let's form one huge table, one in honor of our Cynthia and other marvelous recappers. Those who work tirelessly at the cost of time away from friends and family to give us these treasured gifts. Those who never have but the kindest, most supportive words and encouragement for all. Those who nurture us, and empathize and sympathize when road blocks and heartaches arise in our personal lives.

To all the recapper and to the kind commenters, I raise a glass and toast you! Thank you, for all that do. For all that you are. For who you are!

Diana

I think Kika caught the Falcon by surprise, not expecting a Horny HAWK to be flying through his territory. I think he just wants her OUT OF HIS WAY.

Diana...and the kindest of all...you !!! Your comments always restore my faith in human nature.

Andy, yes,I agree. If Maury can see past that dress, it must be true love !!

Diana, I'll join you in that toast to our recappers, and I think you said it all very well.

Andy

Ha! I can't believe all the discussion about Renee's dress. I didn't even notice it on the first go-around. After Rgv Chickie said something about it I took a better look at it and realized that it was a bit unusual, even odd. But not such a big deal.

I think this is a woman thing. I remember in MMTF when Julieta and Robert got married there was afterwards a big discussion here about Diana's dress, how pretty it was.

Back to the DVR... yep, she was wearing a dress, and it was a very pretty dress. But she was onscreen for maybe a few seconds or so. Not something I would have felt a need to comment on, or even notice.

I do learn a lot here.

:-)

Andy..it is called "the female gaze."

Happy President's Day. I trust the haters will refuse to take the day off.

I noticed the dress right off the bat. Then the second night, at the celebration of gay luuuurve it was shown much more, and it is hideous. I have seen a lot of dresses, and I have never seen anything like that on or off anyone.

It gave Renee a strange baby doll look. Maybe it was supposed to scream "wholesome" as opposed to Kika's skankiness.

Good Morning JudyB, maybe so. I sometimes wonder if producers and set decorators, etc. assume viewers will not notice things because, in the past, on TV, you could not really tell. For instance having a window painted on a wall of a scene looking out onto a green backyard. If that were the case, Renee's dress was a FAIL.

Renee is showing herself to have that one trait almost all engineers have, wholesomeness to a fault. I can't count how many of my coworker engineers I have seen whose wives left them or at least cheated on them with car salesmen and bartenders. Most of us mistakenly believe the ability to repair the microwave with a paper clip and duct tape is more attractive than a good line of bull and being genuinely funny. It is not.

I am still hoping for a war between Kika and Falcon. Her not so secret weapons might not work on old numbnuts Falcon. She sure is spending a lot of effort, and you would think money, to extract revenge for a junior high or high school transgression. It is not like Mauricio killed her parents or left her with a couple of twins or something. He probably bedded her then let it out that she needed more practice. Probably true. You can't learn it in a book, Honey.

And what in tarnation is Sammy about to get into with the shark site? Buying Flintstones Viagra .?

Ayi yaii yaii

Weekend bird.

Love the new picture,Kirby.

But am going to disagree a bit about the engineers. A good sense of humor is great, but a solid guy who can repair things around the house, and does so, is pure gold.

Dating someone with a good line of bull can be great fun. Marriage and children would be much better done with a wholesome, faithful engineer. IMO of course.

Thanks. That is something you discover with years.
Judy, you know that as do I. But when I was fresh out of college, and maybe ten years after, I saw that a lot.

Thanks. That bird made me stand out in the sun for--ever to simply get a shot of a fly-by. You can't really stand in the shade, cause the same thing which provides shade blocks your view of anything in flight too. Not to be a doodoohead, but it is already HOT (86 degrees) here. Even our normally cornfused weather forecasters are scratching their heads and talking about records.

I feel for the girls who get back from the gym or some high school function for the kids and finally notice that they are married to a fellow who is boring, has no hair, looks pregnant, and can do nothing. Then we engineers start looking better. :-)

Kirby: Kika's involved in the sinister conspiracy to destroy Mauricio I know it.

Good Morning, Patio Pals. A very Happy President's Day to you too, Judy B and everyone else!

Kirby, "Renee's dress was a FAIL." YES it was! All that was needed was for Renee to be sporting ponytails, lots of red rouge, and super long lashes. Juby B, "strange baby doll look"...definitely!

Kirby, if you're a doodoohead, then so am I...it is HOT here too and our weather guys are also scratching their heads and talking records; PLUS it's SUPER windy so allergies are going "hay"wire.

Awesome pic, Kirby, thanks!!

Are all old enough to remember "baby doll pj's"? Now those were rather sexy. But NOT THAT DRESS!

JudyB, I remember those pj’s. Renée's dress was like 1955 gone bad . . .

Weird weather here, too. We are hitting upper 50’s today and tomorrow. Rain is washing all the snow away. Flood watch.

Great photo, Kirby.

Thanks

For Andy. Double Trouble.

Thanks Kirby
:-)

Hey more to 'hate'. :-)
Hoppy Monday

Ah yes, Baby Doll pajamas...The epitome of cuteness. Bring those back.

Liked Weekend Bird..free and soaring.

Oveecast and misty here . Springlike temps.

Presidents' Day to do list....watch "Office " marathon on Comedy channel. Cleaning. Laundry. Go grocery shopping. Check online for Baby Doll pajamas. Life in the fast lane.

Good morning your majesty. Of course, I'm addressing the incredible eagle.

Happy Presidents day all. I would have loved to have been off today but my company took this (and several other holidays) away so they could close at Christmas. I won't comment further :)

Yes, the dress was strange. I kept trying to determine if the blue bow was 3D or not. Of course, I've commented on Renee's outfits before and seen celebrities wearing similar styles, so I know nothing.

Judy, it was a baby doll look! And yes, I remember baby dolls. Never wore them but remember them :)

RgvChick, rouge and pigtails would have made it Raggedy Ann indeed. RgvChick. Great call.

Jarifa, we got snow too but mild temps yesterday got rid of most it it. 70's here on Wednesday?!

Andy, yes we did discuss fashion a lot on MMTF, but we had Julieta who never had a bad hair day and who never looked less than a million dollars. Lots of clothes to love there.

Diana

Diana, so true about Julieta!

Global ..............HEATING?

Re Kika: See Google's avayar was originally designed to allow you to put a face with your Googleness, silly them. So it has always been assumed that something approximately square would suffice for almost all faces and hairdos.

So when I put birds up, I choose photos which can be trimmed to about square without loss of a wing or head.
But to put up Ms. Grudge Forever that would have meant losing either the top half (not acceptable) or bottom half (even less woofable).

So I just copied it and made a jpg two wide. VIOLA !

Yes, I tried to lure Andy into service in the male fashion police on Fabian, but soon realized that was far below his pay grade and gave up.

On the lookout for a flying Red Lobster to go.

"Ms. Grudge Forever" made me smile Kirby. I'm glad you were able to concoct something "woofable".

Now your eagle was truly amazing. And, I might suspect, all natural...

I will leave it at that :)

Diana

Kirby: Me as a member of the male fashion police! I don't think you have any idea just how laughable that is!
:-)

Susanlynn: Thanks for the info. I had laundry to do today also, but I had no idea that was part of life in the fast lane.
I think I was expecting something a little more glamorous...

When you think that years ago we had to scrub our clothes on rocks by the river (and some people still do it that way) doing laundry with our modern machines is pretty darn glamorous indeed.

At the risk of sounding like a little Goody Two Shoes (where is my pop-out dress?) I give thanks every night for hot showers. Somehow those WWII movies about the miserable shower arrangements soldiers had to concoct made a BIG impression on me. As did my grandparents wood-burning stove, washtub in the kitchen and scary daddy long legs hideout outhouse.

#indoorlaundryroomsrock

Amen, Judy. #notafanofoutdoorprivies Rocks by the Rio takes on a whole different meaning if you watched "Vino."

Love showers. We only had a clawfoot tub at the farm.

Outdoor makedo showers make me think of my fav Broadway show.."South Pacific."

#countingblessings

Exactly! South Pacific made a lasting impression on me too! JudyB

Wow, you all have been chatty on this patio! Looking forward to tonight's episode. Will Mauricio see through Kika? Is Fabian falling in love with her? Can someone please put a muzzle on Anifer? Will Renee leave town and go pursue her Masters degree in Maryland? Can Tono make a good househusband without being so embarrassing? And will Jorge decide to have "one big happy family?" Will Rodrigo arrest the bad guys that are bringing down Logatoys? Will Rafa participate in training Carola? Tune in today and find out.

Alright, enough drama from me. Thanks for all your comments and for all your support.

Wow! Chatty is right Cynthia, over a hundred comments.

I am definitely looking forward to tonight's episode.

And all of the episodes to come since I want to see just how they tie up all the loose ends and explain the oddities. I'm expecting redemption for the fathers of children at some point, and perhaps for the Church as well. The writers and producers must know that many people will be upset at the portrayal of the clergy in this TN. Even the priest at Milady's baptism wasn't great. He didn't like the name Milady, and then he wanted to hurry things along since he had a wedding to do.

But that resolution or redemption, if there is one, is still a long way off. Tonight I hope to see some further evil machinations of our nasty, cheeky, villainous, fun Kika. And some better clothes for Renee.

Looking at the news I see that Oaxaca has had yet another earthquake, though not a severe one.

It's been a rough time for Oaxaca.

Look what's on. I don't know if I can watch Papa tonight! ! !

Oh, boy, Kirby! This is going to e a dilemma for me, too!
