Papá a toda madre Wednesday 2/14/18 Capítulo 22: The Legendary Bad Penny Always Turns Up

Officials from the city visit Nerón and close his business down. Nerón first begs them not to but is told that he can either comply or end up in jail. He is then incensed. He knows that they want a bribe but he isn't going to give them one. He is an honorable man. There is no reason for them to close down his tire business. They tell him that he better take his complaint to the Public Ministry as they put up huge “closed” signs sealing the doorways of his business. Pablo tries to calm Nerón down and asks if he wants him to go with him to contest the action. Nerón says sure but only up to the door so they don’t get wind of him being here illegally and send him back to Guatemala.

Back at the school, Renée asks the priest to clarify what a normal and traditional family is. No problem there: it is one that is created by the Church in holy matrimony consisting of a father, a mother and children. She then asks what he thinks about single mothers and the kind of family she had with her mother and herself. Would he not consider that a family? The priest and the nun answer in unison and the answer is “NO”. The nun makes it clear that there is only one kind of family and Father Cutberto described it. Renée finds it unbelievable that they would expel a little girl for just asking questions that are age appropriate. She does not live in a bubble and realizes that there is so much more out there beyond what they are telling her. Mauricio agrees and adds that his daughter is quick and witty. She got her intelligence from him, of course. Renée tells the priest that it is they rather that don’t “fit” the needs of Anifer. The school is way too limiting for her. Mauricio likes that. The priest comes back with maybe it is not limiting enough since the child seems to have inherited her rebelliousness from her mother. The nun seconds that. Mauricio grabs Renée and pulls her close to him saying that Renée is defending their daughter like the mother that she is. She is completely right. This school is not at Anifer’s level. They won’t be expelling Anifer because he and Renée are leaving and taking Anifer with them.

At the hospital, Jorge tries to talk to Lila and Baldo and tell them the truth about him and their mother. If they do not want to talk to him, at least they can listen to him. He needs them to know the whole truth. He met their mother at the university and because of destiny, he got involved with a third person who was a friend of their mother’s. Things got complicated when his mother had to go live outside of Zthe city. He looked for her but could not find her. So, he decided to continue his relationship with Dulce. In a short time they got engaged. The day before the wedding, he ran into their mother and that is when they were conceived. Lila wants to know how he could have left their mother when she was pregnant. Jorge says he didn’t know. He married Dulce. Years later, Yuriria informed him that she was a mother and that her children were his. Dulce was expecting their first child at that time so as soon as he found out he wanted to assume his responsibility as a father and help them economically in every way. For that reason they never lacked for anything because he was always there for them. Baldo responds saying first, that it was not really "help" because it was his duty to do so. Second, he gave them money but that was like Santa Claus. Third, he never had the courage to tell them that they were his children. Jorge says he is only asking for their understanding. It was very difficult for him. Lili asks if they are to understand that he preferred his wife to their mother or what?

Nerón goes to the Public Ministry to plead his case only to find out it is not going to be easy to see who he needs to see. The guy at the front desk says he will have to see another guy in another office. Nerón gets in a line that seems to go on forever and that moves at a snail's pace.

Mauricio and Renée bring Anifer home and tell her she will not be going back to that particular school. He tells the truth is that that school was not at her level. She needs a place with a more “flower power” vibe where is it is more open, modern and up to date. That is why they took her out of that school they didn’t get run her out of there. Anifer then asks if it is okay to say what she is thinking. The nun didn’t seem to like it. Renée tells her it is exactly what she should be doing. She hopes that all adults would think the same way. Mauricio says sometimes you have to have a bit of a filter. You cannot just be argumentative. Renée adds that that if she is in doubt about something or thinks that something is not fair, the right thing for her to do is ask about it. She also adds that she has to make sure that she does not hurt anybody. Renée tells her to never hide what she has in her heart. She never should stop being who she is. Renée kisses her on the head. Anifer tells her that her mother used to say the same thing to her. A phone call to Mauricio interrupts the conversation. As he goes off to another room to talk, Renée tells Anifer not to worry about school because they do not deserve her. She is better educated than they. Mauricio has to go back to the office. Yes, Renée will stay with Anifer.

Finally, Nerón gets to see the official that he needs to see. Surprise! It the same guy he knocked on his butt. His shop will not be opened again until he apologizes to him in front of the whole Public Ministry. Nerón states he will not be apologizing to any fool who made such a wisecrack about his wife. He is the one who should be apologizing to Nerón and his wife, he is such a son of a something or other. . . Nerón leaves in a huff. The official is left laughing.

Jorge continues talking to Lila and Baldo. He tries to get them to understand that he did what he could so they were never wanting for anything. The truth of the matter is that he does not know how to make miracles happen. Lili now knows why her mother would never give them “Uncle” Jorge’s phone number. The nurse interrupts the conversation telling them that Yuriria woke up and that she wants to see Jorge first, then her children.

On his way back from the Public Ministry, Nerón tells Pablo that he has no idea how he will be able to reopen his business. Pablo tells him not to get angry. It is better that he go home and rest. Nerón asks him not to mention anything in front of Flor. He will tell her later. They sit on the curb in front of the closed shop.

On her deathbed, Yuriria says that she has never asked Jorge for anything but now she is asking him to be a father to her children. He promises her that he will.

When Toño comes home with the kids, he discovers that their dog Carola has torn up the house. What really hurts is that the dog shredded Toño’s favorite woolen blanket. What to do? The kids will help clean the place up while he warms the food. He doesn’t want to see that “animal” in the house. Tania reminds him that the dog is not just some ”animal”, she is Carola. Toño is left to clean up on his own as the kids run off to their rooms with Carola.

Verónica meets with her boss. It is possible that her husband will get her old engineer’s position. He does not doubt her husband’s preparation or his capacity. The problem is that since Verónica recommended him, he will expect him to be as good at his job as Verónica. Since the company is expanding so rapidly they will be able to hire more people with her husband‘s specialty on a permanent basis. Right now it would be a discretionary appointment (a job with no rights, security or benefits) that could improve. Verónica thanks her boss for everything saying that working at his company is truly a dream come true for her and her husband. Her family is the most important thing to her. Her boss thinks the same way and would like their families to get to know each other. She invites him and his family over to her house tomorrow. Her boss is pleased and accepts the invitation for him and his family.

Jorge leaves Yuriria and reflects on his life in the hospital hallway as he walks back to the waiting area. He sees his present situation as a divine punishment for all of his lies. He swears that all he ever wanted to do was to live a moral life as God and the holy mother church command. He stops to kiss his rosary and is in tears. He decides to check on the kids at home and activates the live stream video on his cellphone. He sees Samuel allowing Rafael to come into the house. He hears Rafael saying he stopped by to talk to Samuel’s mom or dad. Right at that moment, he is interrupted by a nurse who tells him that Yuriria has fallen into a coma. He heads back to her room.

At Jorge’s house, Rafael has come over to invite Jorge and his family to a dinner that he and Rodrigo are going to organize so that they can get to know everyone in the neighborhood. Samuel says that neither his father or mother are at home. Rafael asks if he and his sister have been left alone. When Samuel says yes, Rafael is surprised and tells him if he needs anything just to let them know. He and Rodrigo can take care of whatever. Just at that moment, Nerón comes in having heard the last bit of the conversation. He tells Rafael he needn’t worry because Jorge left him in charge of taking care of his kids. Rafael nods and says he is glad to see Nerón because he was just going to go looking for him. He and his husband want to invite Nerón and his family to . . . Nerón cuts him off thanking him but telling him they are real busy and dealing with a bunch of problems. Rafael laughs and remarks that Nerón didn’t even let him finish. Nerón says that is just the way he is. Rafael repeats “just the way he is." He says goodbye to Samuel, tells him to behave himself and leaves. Nerón immediately asks if Samuel is okay which annoys Samuel. Samuel does not understand why there would be so much of worry and scandal when Rafael came over only to invite them to a dinner.

As Jorge, Lila and Baldo are with Yuriria in her room, the doctor tells them it is just a matter of time. Jorge tells Lila and Baldo to be strong. If God wants to take their mother with him, they have to accept His will and remember her like she was: an extraordinary woman. She was loving, smiling and full of joy. The most important thing is that she always defended what she loved the most: her children. He hugs Lila and Baldo as they all cry.

Rafael and Rodrigo are in their new home discussing what to put where. Rodrigo says he put up a picture of Jalisco so Rafael won’t miss it. Rafael says he will then put up his rainbow flag in the window. Rodrigo says "Nah." Rodrigo asks Rafael if he knows the real reason why Nerón didn’t let him finish. It is because he is homophobic. Rafael does not want to believe that and thinks there must be something else that is bothering him. Rodrigo says that is just because he sees the best in people and that he knows that he has a sixth sense for these things and can tell. Rafael tells him ”Quieta, Julieta”. (Quiet, Juliet) ( hey, it rhymes in both Spanish and English) Rafael says he still has confidence in humanity. Rodrigo warns him that that is a a bad thing. Someone knocks at the door. They joke about who it could be. Rodrigo answers the door and it is Lupe who is shocked as he almost walked in when the door was opened. He asks for Renée.

Mauricio and Falcón are having an unpleasant discussion at work. Falcón says that Mauricio’s solution is to threaten him and tell him how he is going to get him to leave the company but while waiting for that to happen, Mauricio has to tell him about the results he got from going to the International Toy Show. Yes, they are going to listen to Mauricio and yes, please, they are going to talk seriously. He asks Mauricio to have a seat. Mauricio says he has always been talking seriously to them from the start and his answer is not going to change. He had an incredible time. His chicken triumphed and they loved the papá-mamá doll. He starts talking about the delicious crab he had. Falcón does not want to hear about the food. His contacts at the show have informed him that Logatoys was a total failure. Mauricio asks really? And who told him? Fabián comes in. Falcón tells Mauricio to just go on with his jokes. Maybe he will find what he is going to tell him funny. Because of Mauricio’s lies, he and the board have decided that they are not going to manufacture the papá-mamá doll or his chicken either. Mauricio asks not his chicken either? He reminds him that they authorized it. Falcón explains that they cannot trust him. Maybe the best thing for him to do would be to buy one of those cheap foreign licenses for toys and then manufacture them here in Mexico. Mauricio sees his company as an innovator not just some pirate manufacturer. He is disrespecting his business. Falcón reminds him it is not “his” business but “their “ business. He is sorry but it since seems that Mauricio only values threats and forceful measures. Mauricio warns him he will not get the better of him. A female voice adds “Me either”. Kika Braun has arrived on the scene. She introduces herself. She has come to claim her spot the meeting. Falcón doesn’t know why. She is not a part of the company. She agrees but what if she wants to invest in some new products at Logatoys? What then? Mauricio and Fabián just smile.

Renée and Anifer hear some loud banging on their door. It is Lupe who just barges in and says that this just proves that he was right all along. Renée has no idea what he is talking about. He cannot believe she is so stupid that she doesn’t understand. Well, she doesn’t. He isn’t going to leave until he tells her she is a hypocrite. She said she did not like Mauricio and look at her now. She likes him so much that is living with him.

At the meeting, Falcón asks Kika to tell them her name again. She is Chiquinquira Braun now known as Kika. She is a Venezuelans and American empresario. She further introduces herself through a video that they find online after googling her. She is an internationally recognized entrepreneur and linked with the most renowned brands in the world through her own brand known as “CHBK”. Her focus is clothing, accessories and beauty products. According to the magazine “Amazing Business Woman”, she is in the top ten. She is the number one influence in fashion, clothing and lifestyle with 14 million subscribers, more than one million views on her video channel, five million followers on Instagram, nine million on Twitter and six million on Facebook. In 2016, she broke all records at kika.com earning 100 million dollars.

Back at Renée’s, she is finally telling Lupe that nobody has any reason to criticize or blame her fo anything especially him. She does not have to explain to him why she is living there even though it is not for the reason he thinks. Lupe starts in again saying that she is only living there because she is Mauricio’s. . . She tells him to shut up and get out. She will not allow him to offend her nor allow him to continue shouting in front of Anifer because it is her home. She is demanding that he respect that. If he came looking for his money, she is reminding him that the payment ia not due yet according to the payment schedule that he himself gave her. At least he can respect his own word. He insists that he didn’t come about the money, but since she brought it up, he needs his money a week earlier than what they agreed to. Next, he shows her this turquoise gift bag he has been carrying around. It is a little gift for her. He brought it today because tomorrow is her birthday and he will be on call. He decides that she doesn’t deserve the gift after all and takes it with him as he leaves. Renée goes to fix supper. Anifer asks her if it is true that her birthday is tomorrow. Renée answers yes. Anifer asks her if she will be celebrating with a cake and everything. No, Renée answers, she is not used to celebrating her birthday.

At the office, Kika tells them what she can do for them. She is interested in getting into toy making to expand her business. She met Mauricio and they really liked each other a lot. She said to herself that she needed to get the permission of the board since she already had the owner’s. Falcón explains that there are certain rules to follow. She says okay, they don’t want her dollars then. Falcón says that capital will always be welcome at Logatoys. He is just saying that any decision that might affect the company positively or negatively have to be run by by the board. Kika is okay with following the rules in that case but that is not going to get in the way of her decision or her goal to become an investor in Logatoys. Falcón politely asks what quantity of money is she talking about. She beckons him to come closer. She whispers a number in his ear. We hear what sounds like squirrel gibberish but Falcón is impressed. Mauricio happily swings her on her swing and she just loves it!

Back at the hospital, Jorge and the kids are still with Yuriria. He is telling them to have faith. Baldo believes in medicine not in miracles. Lila hopes the doctors can do something for her mother. Jorge tells Lila that he wishes she did believe in God because it would help her. Baldo has no interest in Jorge’s sermons. He is just going to end up leaving them to be with his other family. Jorge says he will be with them until the end. Lila wants to know what reason he will give his other wife and kids for being gone. Will he tell them he had to spend more time with his niece and nephew in Tijuana . . . ?

Still at the meeting, Kika is wondering why it is so quiet. Didn’t they like her offer or what? Falcón laughs and says not at all. It is a very reasonable amount especially for a company that is not in the best condition. Mauricio tells Falcón that with associates like him, he doesn’t need any enemies. Falcón makes it clear that he just wants to make sure that Kika knows all about the company. She assures him that she knows all about the company. If she has any questions, she will ask Mauricio. As soon as the board okays her investment, she will give the order to move the capital. Since the money is foreign, it will most likely take a few days. Falcón wants to know why she is in such a rush. Is she interested in the company or in its owner? She makes it clear that she is interested in both. She is hiding nothing. She is as interested in Logatoys as in Mauricio. Mauricio is supposing that with such a large investment that Kika will have considerable participation in the company. Falcón says, well. . . Mauricio finishes it for him: Well, yes!

Nerón and Pablo are at Nerón's house lying to Flor about why neither of them are not at work. She smells a rat. Nerón has to finally tell her that the city closed down the tire shop. Flor is very upset and goes after Nerón who takes off running into another room..

Fabián tries to bring the whole investment process back down to earth filling in Mauricio and Kika on what she needs to do next and warning Mauricio that anything can happen in the meantime. Mauricio calls him a killjoy. Doesn’t he see how Kika convinced the board and Falcón? Their strategy is brilliant. He shouldn’t doubt it. Fabián says he doesn’t doubt it but he just doesn’t want to count his chickens before they are hatched, that’s all. Kika, on the contrary, thinks that this calls for a celebration. Falcón suggests that they make a reservation at a restaurant or a bar. Whoopsie! That is not what Kika has in mind. She was thinking of a more intimate celebration with just her beautiful Mauricio. She tells Fabián “sorry”. Mauricio suggests that he and Fabián and he have their own celebration some time but Fabián has lost interest and leaves. Kika is all over Mauricio when his phones rings. It is Anifer who has called Mauricio to come home right away. She has to talk to him in person. Kika decides to come along. She is just dying to meet his daughter.

At home, Anifer tells Mauricio that Renée's birthday is tomorrow. Mauricio cannot believe that it was so urgent for her to tell him that but he thanks her. He then tells her that he also has a surprise for her. She asks if he has found a new school for her. No, there is somebody important who wants to meet her. Kika comes in and is so happy to meet Anifer as she pinches her cheek so hard that Anifer has to remove her hand. Anifer asks Mauricio who this "one" is. Kika introduces herself. She is Kika Braun. Renée comes in and adds that she is certainly a little friend of her father’s. Anifer wants to know how long has Kika known her father. Kika answers that has known him for many many years. They went together to the same high school in the USA. Mauricio clearly does not remember that and asks “We did?” He thinks that is a good joke. No, it is no joke. Kika insists that they went to the same high school together. Renée says that Mauricio suffers from selective memory. Anifer agrees saying that he didn’t even remember her mother. Mauricio wonders if he has an enemy in his own house. Renée says that he said it, not her. She adds that there seems to be an enemy in the house as she smiles at Kika. Kika is still calling Renée “cachifa” (the maid).

Still at the hospital, Jorge calls home and lies to Valentina saying he is still at work and is limited to the conference room and the hotel. He asks to talk to Samuel. When Valentina gives Samuel her cell phone, he closes his laptop really quickly. Jorge asks Samuel if he has been in contact with the new neighbors. He says yes. The guy who is the vet came over to invite them all to a dinner that they are having for the cul-de-sac to get to know everybody better. Jorge wants to know what he answered. Samuel says he told them that Jorge wasn’t home. Jorge tells him that he did the right thing and that he should not be mixing with those two. He warns him to be very careful. He will call them later. Valentina takes her phone and leaves. Samuel opens the laptop and is at the “Blue Shark” website where he has just been asked if he accepts the Blue Shark’s 50 step challenge.

At Mauricio's, Kika is still talking about knowing Mauricio from high school. He is still finding it hard to believe that they were at the same high school together. She remembers him well. Mauricio says he always socialized in large groups and it was a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away. Kika admits that she doesn’t remember everybody either. No worries. The important thing is to live in the present. Soon they are in their own little world as Anifer realizes and reminds them that she and Renée are still there. The topic has turned back to Anifer and school. Anifer wants Mauricio to find her a new one. Kika interjects herself into the conversation by saying what a lovely thing it is that she is changing schools. Anifer says, no. They threw her out because she angered a nun. Does she believe it? Kika lightly applauds and tells her "Bravo." One must always show what she is made of. She hopes that Mauricio can find right school for his "little dream." Kika is going to leave them now because she has to go. Mauricio promises to have dinner with her later with that champagne and lobster. Kika says she hopes they can go out as a family some day. She makes it clear that the family includes her, Mauricio and Anifer. Renée is not part of the group. Maybe she could have a day just for Anifer and her. As she goes to pinch Anifer’s cheek again, Anifer slaps her. Kika says goodbye to all and leaves. Mauricio is left smiling and sighing. He asks Anifer and Renée if they do not find Kika to be the most enchanting woman on the planet. Anifer breaks the spell by saying he must be blind, right?

Later while working on the Logatoys blue prints, Renée thinks about what Anifer said about her birthday and her response. She picks up her mother’s photo and tells her that this is the first time her mother is not going to be with her on her birthday. They never celebrated either of their birthdays but the best gift would be to have her here. She kisses the photo.

As Mauricio is putting Anifer to bed, she asks him if he is going to marry Kika. Mauricio tells her that he barely knows her and she isn’t even his girlfriend yet. Anifer wants to know why he doesn’t know her from whatever school it was. Mauricio explains that he went to a lot of schools. He was at a boarding school in the USA until he was sixteen. So that is why he talks English remarks Anifer. Did he live by himself? He lived with other boys. Later, they expelled him and he went to a regular school with boys and girls. That must be where Kika remembers him from. Well, Anifer does not like her at all. Mauricio says that she has to get to know her. It is too early to say that yet. Anifer motions him closer and asks him in a whisper what they are planning on doing for Renée’s birthday. That conversation goes no where because Renée comes into the room. She says she wants to thank them but it isn’t necessary for them to do anything. It is a day like any other. Mauricio insists that she should celebrate. Anifer agrees. It isn’t everyday that you have a birthday. He also wants to know if she is going to tell him that she doesn’t like Kika either because if looks could kill.. . He pretends he has a machine gun. Renée is taken aback that he would think that she would have an opinion of Kika when eventhough Kika called her “the maid”, he said nothing. . . Mauricio quickly reminds her of Anifer being there and hearing it all. On his way out, Mauricio announces that he is right when he said that Renée does not like Kika and what is more Renée seems to be jealous.

Oh Jeezo, Thanks Jarifa. "sounds like squirrel gibberish" had me hee hawing. That's just friggin funnnnny.
I have to finish your recap
Thanks

Jarifa, I smiled my way through this. So much to soak in and savor. Your level of detail and ability not to miss a single thing is incredible.

"Anifer asks Mauricio who this "one" is". My, you would almost think Ani doesn't care for Kika...

"Renée tells Anifer not to worry about school because they do not deserve her. She is better educated than they". And there you have it. I don't doubt for a second what happened to Anifer hasn't happened to many, many other chidren. Those who dismiss and diminsh any group considered not the approved, traditional two parent family and children are dismissed by me in return. To me, the clergy are people. Just people. Some good, some not. I went through 16 years of Cathoic schools, taught by nuns and priests. I attend mass and belonged to different parishes throughout my life. Some were kind, loving, dedicated and inspired great confidence. It is these folks that I prefer to keep uppermost in my mind. To me, the clergy are people. Just people. Some good, some not.

Rafael and Rodrigo. Is there any doubt this is the happiest couple on the block??

"Jorge tells Lila and Baldo to be strong. If God wants to take their mother with him, they have to accept His will and remember her like she was: an extraordinary woman. She was loving, smiling and full of joy". Finally some real comfort and genuine tears are shed.

I think Neron is going to have to enlist Flor's help if he is to have any chance to get his shop back. I don't think his hot temper will be of much help here. Not that I blame him, the guy is a sleeze.

"Rafael says he still has confidence in humanity". And we in you.

I honestly have no idea who Kika really is or what she really wants. "five million followers on Instagram"? Harrumph. She has nothing on Selena Gomez who has over 69 million Instagram followers. Take that Barbie...

I was so happy this was posted early as I won't be able to comment again until later tomorrow.

A wonderful recap to read before bed and a beautiful visual to boot (thanks Kirby).

Thank you so much Jarifa. You are the best...

Diana

Prayers for Parkland.

America, What have you done to your children?

Thank you , Jarifa, for that excellent recap.

Squirrel gibberish, indeed. Chee Chee Chee

Kirby..yes, what is happening ? Prayers.

Diana, I was baptized and confirmed a Protestant, but I so agree that clergy are people. When our baby son died, our minister was immediately there when I came home from the hospital and was kind, sympathetic, and supportive. He later baptized both of our daughters. His successor was another good soul. However, he was followed by a younger guy who made me feel uncomfortable. He had drug problems and bizarrely was killed by police in a shootout. Just people with flaws like the rest of us.

Thanks so much Jarifa. Reading the recaps is my morning breakfast treat before I head off on my day. There was one highlight for me...when you wrote that Mauricio pulled Renee close to him (YES!!!) and defended her point of view. Baby steps, baby steps. However I'm sure there will be many months of Kika, and perhaps also Lupe, before our two protagonists get together.

Veronica inviting her boss and his wife to dinner at home has DISASTER written all over it.

Interesting discussion on clergy, human flaws and all. I remember one of our pastors pointing out that Protestant clergy divorce at the same as the general population. In other words, "faith" doesn't make you "better" than anybody else.

Good morning to all. Hope your day goes well. And many thanks Jarifa. Are there still mounds and mounds of snow turning black in the Chicago parking lots today? Always troubling to realize how dirty our air really is when we see the carbon emissions on our lovely snow.

And the Florida school shooting is just so depressing. We are letting everybody arm themselves with assault weapons. And then wonder why this is happening.

Does anyone else see that 'The Matrix' is almost here? Our money is not real, is is just paper, and if we didn't believe (in error) that it is backed by gold (it is not) it would be worth the same as bathroom tissue. XX million followers on Instwityoufartboink is not real. It is not like walking down the street and saying hi to your actual human friends.

Blahbaddity blah friends on Farceboink is not real, try borrowing a screwdriver from 99 percent of them.

There were just as many guns a hundred years ago and not one of them chose to march into a school and murder kids. The anti gun media is drooling over this latest tragedy as another tool in their campaign. It's not the guns Judy, it is what we, and mostly the media and big business,, has done to our children.

Kirby, yes, definitely prayers for Parkland. Hopefully someday we won’t need to send prayers anywhere.

Diana, you impressed me with your Selena Gómez Instagram stats! Yes, Kika is quite the mystery woman so far. She is just so intense and focused. I loved Anifer slapping her hand away when she went to squeeze her cheek again.

Susanlynn, the bizarre out-of-place sound effects are always the best.

I was really surprised to see Lupe suddenly popping up with a birthday gift. He really did not get the message as he was trying to wheedle his way back into Renée’s life, Then he had the nerve to act offended. Screw loose. If it were a drama, I would be telling Renée to move and leave no forwarding address.

RgvChick, called it yesterday about the guy responsible for closing Nerón’s business being the guy he socked. Maybe Flor will have to handle it as Diana suggested.

Another fun episode and I learned a new regional word for “maid”: cachifa. You got to give it to Kika for doing her homework.

I cannot wait for Jorge to bring Lila and Baldo home and for Valentina and Samuel to find out they have a half-sister and half-brother.

I wonder what that “Blue Shark” website that Samuel is into is about.

JudyB, yes the dinner does have “disaster” written all over it. I hope we get to see it. Maybe Carola will help make it more interesting. The snow is not too bad looking yet and it is starting to melt. Yesterday, they were hauling it away off the main streets in trucks. When you go to the shopping malls there are huge piles that looks like mountains. : )

My pick of the best moment last night was when Kika started to grab Anifer's cheek the second time and like a cat swatting a moth she batted it away. That little girl just continues to amaze me.

Yes I spoke too soon, Loopy came out of hiding. What is with these Mexicans just flinging open the door? And of course Loopy barges in like a Raging Bull, well, maybe raging steer. Renee needs a front door camera, (talk to Jorge, girl) and a can of Mace or pepper spray.

I am as mystified as everyone with Kika. I think she is as insincere as our government, but I have no clue why. If half of what she says is true, she does not need the money, none of which Logatoys or Mauricio have anyway. It appears she should not be desperate for a man to sleep with, and Mau is pretty hot, but like many of those, broke and dumber than a box of rocks. I could almost put up with her for her squirrel gibberish, having been a Mama squirrel for a time once.

Judy, disaster? Understatement. What is Vero thinking? Is she planning on hiring a babysitter, dog sitter, maid, and caterer? Is she even planning on having them over to her HOME, or give them the address to some place she rented?

I must have missed something. Did Inova-Car hire Tonto or not? He made such a fool of himself I thought they passed on him, but this dinner party comes up now.

Kirby, your guess is as good as mine about Toño being hired or not. I watched the scene more than once (with the boss and Verónica) and it sounded like it was still up in the air. Maybe we both missed something. I sort of got the feeling that the boss was more interested in Verónica and that was the real reason he wanted their families to get together. Just “flinging open the door without knowing who is on the other side” is one of my pet peeves in novelas especially the dramas where real danger is lurking. It is one of my current rants on CET.

And while I'm at it, Kika's "presentation" about what else, KIKA BRAUN, was Junior Highish with the Zing Pow Batman and Robin graphics.

Jarifa, I thought the boss was sort of thinking of coming on to Vero, I had my fingers crossed, sending him positive vibes, but it didn't work.

'Flinging the door open' gets me. I worked on some projects having to do with the delivery of nuclear weapons years ago, and to actually get to my desk I had to go through one door into a small room with an armed guard, then when the STEEL door behind me closed and locked the second door would open and allow me to go in. Maybe that is overkill for Renee, but do these people ever learn? And whoever is outside the door, are they there in starting blocks?

Maybe Carola will help make it more interesting. An energetic mischievous dog can wreak havoc if it decides to.

Kirby, interesting working conditions. What really gets me is that these people might be living in a cul-de-sac but really live in Mexico CITY or it’s URBAN environs somewhere. I am a city dweller with one eye open all the time. The lack of common sense makes my head tired.

I hope that Verónica manages to shed Toño somewhere along the line if he doesn’t smarten up. Love can only take you so far when the rest of the package is an embarrassment. I wonder if he will become cringeworthy at some point as Verónica advances. The dinner should be good. We will have Toño and Carola to watch for entertainment.

Jarifa.."when the rest of the package is an embarrassment."..You nailed it. Perhaps if TOno sees someone else (her boss)is attracted to Vero, he will wake up and realize that he has to get his act together. (Or as a learned on the Outlander forum "pull up his socks" as they say in the UK.)

Kirby, when our older daughter graduated from college she was offered a job by a big company that keeps our satellites in space. She would have needed to get security clearances, but she decided to turn the job down...too stressful.

Good Morning, All! Jarifa, thanks for this amazingly detailed recap...it is truly appreciated!

Diana, “Those who dismiss and diminish any group considered not the approved, traditional two parent family and children are dismissed by me in return.” I need to vent some more. Father Cutberto’s and the nun’s attitude continue to bother me, especially regarding family. What are the writer’s trying to pull? Do they really think they can pass this off as good comedy? I have NEVER known the church or any priest to be that critical of the constitution of “family.” I am SO glad Renée and Mau agreed to take Anifer out of there. I do hope they follow up on finding a good school for her. Though I laughed at Anifer slapping Kika’s hand, I was somewhat perturbed that Renée or Mau didn’t call her attention or talk to her about not hitting, especially an adult. Anifer could have just moved back or even pushed Kika’s hand away; hitting is not something I would have condoned.

Diana, “"Jorge tells Lila and Baldo to be strong…She was loving, smiling and full of joy". Finally some real comfort and genuine tears are shed.” Well stated! Jorge finally had some appropriate words of wisdom to share and will be taking responsibility for ALL his children. The scenes were very touching, but how is Jorge going to explain to Val and Sam that they have a half-brother and half-sister…that will be interesting to see.

Kirby, yes, Mau needs to have a camera installed or at least a peep hole so they can see who is at the door. I was wondering if Loopy had left to Maryland, but obviously NOT! What a jerk! I was hoping he’d hand the gift to Renée so should could throw it back.

Kirby, “I am as mystified as everyone with Kika. I think she is as insincere as our government, but I have no clue why. If half of what she says is true, she does not need the money, none of which Logatoys or Mauricio have anyway.” Very true, she is not after money. It was interesting that she said she knew Mau since high school...and Mau had absolutely no recollection of her. If she was being honest about that, could this be one of those “you mocked/hurt me then, now it’s payback time” scenarios?

JudyB, “Veronica inviting her boss and his wife to dinner at home has DISASTER written all over it.” YUP!! Jarifa just might be right…Carola may be the one to lead in the disaster.

Kirby, “Did Inova-Car hire Tonto or not? “ I was under the impression that Tonto (good on, Kirby!) did get hired, but the boss seemed to be emphasizing that it was mainly due to the boss’s trust in Veronica’s recommendation AND that he was expecting Tonto’s performance to be as good as Veronica’s (good luck!). Jarifa, I never got the impression tha the boss was coming on to Veronica, but…I may be wrong.

Thought and prayers going out to Parkland. Kirby, "America, What have you done to your children?" So, so sad what business, the media and other factors are doing to our children. And then they will come out with some syndrome to explain the behavior...and meds to try to treat it.

The twins were conceived the day before JOrge and DUlce's wedding. Ew Probably TMI for those poor kids at this point in time. #feetofclay

RGvChick, I never got the impression that her boss was coming on to Verónica but I did get the feeling that she was the one who he was professionally interested in and that her husband was an after thought/necessary nuisance that he had to deal with to keep her.

Susanlynn, TMI indeed!

Jarifa, I can see where you are coming from. Maybe the boss was also warning her that they would be hiring more people with Tontos qualifications...a little competition will keep Tonto on his toes...we hope!

"The twins were conceived the day before JOrge and DUlce's wedding"
Ewwww, If you are getting Married, don't you want to go in with a full clip?

RGV: " with some syndrome to explain the behavior.."

Nailed it. Smart Chik

Kirby, how envious I am of that eagle, flying freely through the air; and all it has to worry about is eating and getting food for its young. If only life were so simple. Thanks for that inspiring shot!

Jarifa, thank you for another great recap, and your great comments!

All the comments have been quite lively recently. Unfortunately some today are provoked by the shooting in Parkland. Jarifa, I share your hope that "someday we won’t need to send prayers anywhere." But I don't expect that day to arrive anytime soon, sorry to say.

Tonight should be an interesting episode, Renee's birthday, Vero's dinner party, and who knows what else. I'm sure Kika will deliver up some evil fun.

I agree with those who don't think Vero's boss was coming on to her, though that was my first thought. But, the two families having dinner together? This doesn't sound like seduction to me.

I would love to see Hot Cop bust the sleaze ball who is persecuting Neron. Get him on corruption, or abuse of his office. And how would Neron react to that?

You should be envious. Watching these birds a lot, I see they have a boatload of free time, to tell the truth. If they are good fishers and hunters, it is not bad even when there are two hungry chicks.

The chicks need to eat every about 45 minutes to hour, about twelve hours a day. (Daylight)
With both parents feeding, that is one meal around per adult to bring home every hour and a half.
I see them show up with a fresh catch after being gone twenty minutes or so lots of times.

Then after ten minutes of preparing the meal, and feeding the chicks they hop to a nearby limb and SIT.
Occasionally one of the adults looks to have gotten bored, and takes flight and catchers a thermal and soars so high it is just a speck, then lollygags around for a while, and comes back to it's limb.

Not a bad life

Look at this one. Junior has already gotten big enough to start wing exercises building muscles to prepare for flying one day. They will just sit in the nest and hold on to something and flap away like crazy to build flight muscles.

Andy, I like your comment about how Rodrigo could come to Nerón’s rescue. Now that would be interesting and fun!

I'll bet Kika's Daddy is that razor guy.

Google, here I come.

YIKES !

Daddy ought to buy her some clothes. :-)

We can all see where this is going for Neuron. Flor is going to have to give Mr. Dildo one of her posters or something, which will almost be the end of Neutron. The vet, (he works on mammals, right) will save his life and Neuron will be forever conflicted that 'one of them' saved his life.

Where does Pablo live? Does he live with N and F?

And where's that shoebox?

Andy, I agree about your thought on Rodrigo saving Neron's a$$...great idea and may the TN Gods hear ya!

Jarifa, thanks for bringing up the new term "charifa." I'm fluent in Spanish, but I learn new terms almost every day on these TNs (i.e., mellizos = fraternal twins; pana [Venezuelan term] = pal)

OMGosh, Kirby, that's Junior?? He looks big already! Nice shot! Interesting info on how often eagles feed their young...I learn something everyday here :-)

Kirby, that scenario for Neuron would be interesting too! Some how, some way, Rodrigo and Rafael (R&R) will be accepted by everyone in the neighborhood. Oh I have a thought...Rodrigo can hurt Loopy while arresting him for stalking Renee and Rafael can nurse him back...and give him a new brain!

I think Pablo was sleeping in the repair shop, but since it was shut down, he didn't have anywhere to sleep.

Yeah. it's junior. See how scrawny his wings are? He almost has an adult wingspan already, but the heavy flight feathers are not grown in fully.

Thanks

It is ironic, that Pablo is as concerned with Mexico sending him back to Ecuador as the Mexicans are of us sending them back to Mexico. We are the Devil's apprentice, for that though.

Then he will have to moooof in wiff dem. Oh Boy.

" a new brain"...a brain

Jorge and his holier a than at you attitude, especially with R&R, really irks me. Their relationship, according to him, goes against "what the church teaches us" is the meaning of family. Well, what does the church teach us about someone who, the DAY BEFORE entering into his church-approved "holy matrimony" goes for a "one for the road" with the love of his life, then STILL goes through with the wedding to the replacement and then when he finds out he has these children, lies about it (to all concerned) for years! He cheated first! Lies again when his daughter straight out asks him about Yurira. He's full of (as my nephew used to say) ... El Toro Poopoo!

Holier-than-thou

Anon, well said. ITA.

Enjoying the pictures of young eagle, the info, and Andy's speculation that Rodrigo will be the one to do Neron an enormous favor. We shall see!

Thanks, Jarifa. Another most excellent title and recap.

She then asks what he thinks about single mothers and the kind of family she had with her mother and herself. Would he not consider that a family? The priest and the nun answer in unison and the answer is “NO”.

This TN's writers must've had their knuckles whacked by a ruler-brandishing nun back in the day because they're sure exacting payback now. I'm not Catholic, but I was a Girl Scout in a troop sponsored by a Catholic church. I remember good times and respect for all.

Baldo responds saying first, that it was not really "help" because it was his duty to do so.

Baldo nailed that point. Maybe he'll be a lawyer like his dad one day.

I'm okay with Anifer not liking Kika. One must get consent before cheek pinching. But Renee is out of line cause Mau is not her boyfriend. Mau and Fabian are so cute when sigh together as Kika passes by. Fools.

Anon, El Toro Poopoo is a new one to me, but I have heard "caca de toro". And, in English, there's always the old-fashioned substitute, "Bushwa".

Niecie, you made me laugh: you are probably right that this less than favorable depiction of the Catholic school/religion is probably due to some writer’s bad experience in a Catholic school as a kid. Too funny.

Renee and maybe a few of the others have this little thing they do when in a heated discussion. After certain statements she has this little 'umf' with a rising inflection as if it's a question. It's really cute, as if she is saying hmm? hmm? I THINK I may have heard Mauricio do it back. Listen tonight.

Judy thanks. That is the great thing about this patio. You can blabber along, without a ruler wielding nun heading over grabbing for your hand.
