Papa a Toda Madre #51 3.29.18: Can You Date Your Ex-Bro's Possible Sister Without It Getting Awkward?

Or Everyone Gets Hit In the Face

Mauricio thinks Fabian is sick because he used a child to further his plans. Fabian thought Mauricio hated kids, so it shouldn’t have been a big deal. Mauricio wants to know if Maria is actually dead or if Fabian made that up to, but Fabian confirms she’s dead and buried. Mauricio doesn’t believe him, as he’s lied to much and went alone with Juan Perez to Maria’s burial, but Fabian confirms the body he claimed was Maria’s and he only did it because Mauricio won’t let sleeping dogs lie. Mauricio can’t believe Fabian would’ve left Maria unclaimed, like a dog, but Fabian retorts that Mauricio didn’t even go to his own father’s burial, so he shouldn’t talk. Mauricio claims that that is another story and thinks Noel would die again if he saw what his son has become.

Renee is looking at the photo she found of all the old Logatoys employees when Rafael walks in and asks if she’s going to keep it. Renee is going to ask Mauricio but she’s sure he will let her keep it as a reminder of the way things were. After a moment, Renee realizes that her mother is looking at someone else, not the camera, and Rafael points at Noel and assumes she’s looking at this man. Renee doesn’t know him, only of him, and remembers when Angel told her that Catalina was very secretive, and he wished she loved him but never did. Renee suddenly gasps and tells Rafael that she knows who her father may be, but she can’t confirm that he is because she has no proof. Rafael offers to help, as the sooner she gets her house, the sooner they can buy it, but Renee is wary as the legal battle for her house may be tougher than she thought. She also reveals that she may have a brother and wonders how she will find out the truth. Rafael thinks her talk with Angel went well, so she could talk to her brother too, but Renee wonders if her search is worth it because she may find out things she never expected or wanted to find out.

Jorge and Baldo wait in the airport for their flight to Tijuana and Jorge can’t believe Lili did something like this. Jorge hopes she regrets her decision as soon as they find her but Baldo can’t believe he’s already thinking of punishing her. Jorge argues that she left behind his back, as a minor, and Baldo asks him to calm down. Jorge asks him then to call his friends in Tijuana and ask about Lili as he calls Valentina. Valentina confirms that she called all of Lili’s friends from school, but they don’t know anything. Jorge hopes she was careful as no one at school can know Lili ran away and Valentina confirms she was. She hangs up then and shakes her head at Lili’s actions.

Lili and Pablo are on the bus when Pablo sees that they are coming up on an unscheduled checkpoint. Pablo wonders what he can do because he will be detained and deported if they find out he’s an illegal.

Renee and Anifer arrive at Logatoys and find Gladys asleep at her desk. They wake her up suddenly and Gladys can’t hide her sourpuss face when she sees them. Renee wonders if she’s jealous that she is Mauricio’s girlfriend but Gladys pities her as Mauricio is crazy and so is Anifer. Since Gladys likes Anifer so much, Renee asks her to take care of the girl while she talks to the boss, but Gladys begs her to be take pity on her as Anifer is a little devil. Renee thinks Gladys missed her true calling as a clown, entertaining children, but Gladys demand they be quiet and finally agrees to take care of Anifer but warns Renee that Mauricio has been talking with Fabian all day, very heatedly. Renee is surprised.

In Mauricio’s office, Fabian wants to go get some water, as he’s parched from talking, but Mauricio can’t believe he’s so cruel. He chides Fabian for not caring about Anifer, but Fabian remembers a time when Mauricio didn’t want to be a father or have Anifer in his life. He also tells him that he doesn’t believe his sudden change into a better person and father and knows he will grow tire of Anifer and kick her to the curb. Fabian also thinks Renee will kick Mauricio out of his life as well, when she realizes the truth, but Mauricio is more than happy to be Anifer’s father because Fabian doesn’t value what he has because he’s a miserable excuse of a man. He grabs Fabian, but Fabian pushes him off and punches Mauricio. As he starts to walk away, Mauricio punches him back and Fabian falls to the ground. Mauricio puts his fists up and demand Fabian fight him, if he can.

The police board the bus and ask all the passengers to produce their documents. Just then, Pablo screams that he needs help as Lili won’t wake up. The officer helps Pablo take Lili off the bus but neither realize they have left their backpacks on the floor.

Fabian gets up as Mauricio demands he fight because he can take him and thinks Anifer can to. Mauricio then wonders if seducing Kika was also part of his plan and Fabian nods, because he didn’t want her to invest, but then he realized he wasn’t interested in Kika, but in “the maid,” and his plan backfired. Fabian thinks Mauricio has the worse taste in women and decides to leave but Mauricio pulls him back and punches him twice. Fabian grabs Mauricio and pushes him on top of his desk before hitting him repeatedly. Renee walks in, sees them, and runs to stop but the fight but Fabian punches her in the face by mistake. Renee falls down and Mauricio runs to see if she’s okay, but Renee is passed out.

As the EMT attends to Lili, he asks Pablo various questions to determine if she’s sick. Pablo doesn’t know if anything is wrong and the EMT foes back to the ambulance to grab some supplies. Pablo wakes Lili up then and tells her to run now that they’re alone.

Neron calls Flor to ask about Lili and Pablo. Flor explains that Jorge and Baldo went to find them but still haven’t and Neron is worried that Jorge will find Pablo and deport him. He is also worried that Pablo may not survive if he crosses the border, but Flor chides him for talking about that. She promises to keep him informed and then hangs up as Neron, who was on the sidewalk hiding behind a truck, runs onto the street and hails a taxi so he can follow a car.

Pablo and Lili are running through the woods as quick as they can and hide behind a rock to wait. Lili then realizes that she left her passport behind, but Pablo reminds her that they can’t go back. He assures her that they will be okay, and that he brought enough money, but Lili can’t believe she was so stupid.

By the bus, the officer asks the EMT if he saw where Lili and Pablo went but the EMT shakes his head. The officer curses his luck.

Jorge and Pablo walk to the check-in desk in the airport, angry that their flight was delayed for so long, when Jorge gets a call from the officer from the bus. The officer tells him that they found Lili’s belonging on a bus and are calling him to inform him that she disappeared during an inspection. Jorge asks him where she disappeared and then begs the officer to find her because she ran away with an illegal. The officer promises to find them and hangs up as Jorge tells Baldo that he doesn’t know what to do now as Lili and Pablo never made it to Tijuana. Jorge suggests they go home and figure it out there.

Renee has finally woken up and Mauricio asks if she’s okay. Renee confirms she is and wonders if he and Fabian have lost their mind. Mauricio looks back at Fabian and demands he left and never come back. Fabian has no intention to come back and hopes Mauricio does well now that Logatoys is on the “up and up,” but warns him that he will lose the most, in the end. He then apologizes to Renee, who turns her head, and walks out. Once alone with Mauricio, Renee demands to know what happened.

In her suite, Kika calls the consul to ask him how her passport situation is going. The consul promises to call her back and Kika thanks him before hanging up. Kika then receives a call Valentina, begging for her help to find Pablo and Lili, who want to cross the border into the US, and Kika is shocked at the news but wonders how she can help. Valentina asks her to post a bulletin on social media for her fans to report back if they’ve seen either Pablo or Lili. Kika considers this and smiles.

Neron gets out of the taxi, having arrived at Roberto’s house, and looks around, happy to see it’s a good neighborhood. He then finds a neighbor and pretends to be a mortgage broker of some sort, so he can inquire about Roberto. The neighbor wants proof that he is who he says he is and Neron gives him his card. The neighbor inspects it as Roberto comes out of his house and sees him. He walks over to Neron and asks him what he’s doing there with a smile.

Mauricio tells Renee everything that happened, and Renee is shocked at everything Fabian did, with and without Falcon’s help. Mauricio can’t believe he was so blind and Renee wonders if he has any proof. Mauricio shakes his head, but he can’t believe Fabian could lie for, so long. Renee offers her full support, with everything, and Mauricio thanks her with a hug. Renee then grows serious and confesses that there is a possibility that she is Noel’s daughter and, therefore, Fabian’s sister. Mauricio is floored at the news.

Tono goes to visit Rafael and Rodrigo to ask if they can rent a room, temporarily (hopefully), and they agree but must talk to Renee. Tono confirms he already did, and she agreed, and hopes again that it is only temporary. Just then, there is a knock and it’s Jorge and Baldo, who have come to ask for their help to look for Lili, who is trying to cross the border illegally. Everyone is shocked at the news but mostly because this is the humblest they’ve ever seen Jorge. Either way, they all agree to help.

Mauricio can’t believe Noel may be Renee’s father and explains that he has a lot of fond memories of Noel, who was nothing like Fabian, but he had a really sad life. Mauricio hugs Renee and explains that he never got over his wife’s death and left Logatoys soon after, sold his part, and became a hermit. Renee is sad to hear this and Mauricio credits Noel for a lot of the first successful designs of the company. Renee can’t believe Noel could be so mean and wonders why he never wanted to meet her. Mauricio offers his full support as well in the search for the truth but asks her to please not dig up Noel’s body for DNA tests because it’s not cool. Renee nods as Anifer walks in and asks if they want to go watch a movie. After a moment, she notices their bruises and asked what happened. They tell Anifer that they were dancing and crashed into each other but Anifer is doubtful.

At home, Jorge looks at his family picture and cries, wondering where Lili may be. He then prays to God to help him find his daughter and apologizes for any sins he may have committed that his children may pay for. He hopes his children understand him because he doesn’t know what else to do.

Neron explains to Roberto that he came to see another client, got lost, and was asking for directions when he saw him. He joes that he isn’t following him, and Roberto laughs as well. Neron then has a look around, sees Roberto’s wedding photo, and comments that both look good. Roberto thanks him and Neron asks if he doesn’t feel lonely in this big house. Roberto admits his does, especially without children, and Neron tells him how he had a family with two children and now has another with Flor and Milady. Roberto nods and Neron confesses that he’s scared he may die any day now and leave his daughter and wife behind, but Roberto tells him not to think that way. Neron thinks Roberto could have a family like his too and Roberto thinks he can. He then offers Neron a beer and goes to get it.

Jorge is still at home, praying, when Baldo receives a call from the officer in charge of finding Lili, who confirms that they haven’t found her yet. Baldo hangs up and relays the news as Jorge as Valentina and Samuel to get offline as he needs their help finding their sister. Valentina explains that she asked Kika to reach out to her fans, so they can find Lili faster. Samuel goes to Jorge and shows him the video Kika made, asking for help. Jorge nods and promises to apologize to Kika because she is a good person and her actions have shown she is.

Lili and Pablo get a ride from a truck driver and then get dropped off at the location where the coyote promised to meet him. Lili tells Pablo that she’s cold and hungry and Pablo hands her his sweater before promising to keep her safe. Lili can’t believe they are in this situation and Pablo asks her to tell him if she doesn’t want to cross illegally, before their journey starts, but Lili confirms she does and they hug. Just then, a man with dark sunglasses approaches them and both grow stiff.

At Tono’s, the children beg their parents to let them go play but Tono demands they sit down and be quiet as they have to talk to them. Veronica chides him for being so strict and then tells the children that they have something to talk about. She tells Tono to talk and explain but he is wary, so Veronica explains that they are only taking a small break to work things out. Tania thinks they are going to get divorced but the both shakes their head and explain that sometimes think happen and you have to resolve them, but their break is temporary. Ernesto wants to know where they will go, and Veronica explains that they will stay with her and Tono will move close by, in the cul-de-sac, but Tania and Ernesto storm off because they are tired of the lies. Veronica follows them as Fidel then asks Tono what a divorce is. Tono begs Veronica for help.

Pablo explains to the man that Lili must come with them, as she lost her passport, but the man could care less as Pablo only paid for one and he doesn’t take women. Pablo demands he respect his girlfriend and the man backs off as Pablo assures him that he will pay half for Lili now and the rest in the US. The man agrees and warns them to hurry up as he is leaving and doesn’t wait for no one. Lili, who keeps getting messages, finally pulls out her phone and sees her the messages people have sent and the video from Kika. Lili plays the video with Pablo at her side.

Sometime later, Veronica is working on her computer when Tono comes and wonders how they will hide their fights from their children. She is sure they will be able to and Tono asks if they can talk to each other, instead of using technology, but Veronica thinks he’s making a big deal. Tono thinks she thinks she’s better, because she’s a working woman, and reminds her that he will go back to work soon. Veronica nods and Tono then brings up the break again but Veronica reminds him that it was his idea. Tono argues that it wasn’t but Veronica doesn’t care as they need a break either way. She then goes over the excel spread to see who gets the children when and at what time. They can’t agree on who will pick them up Friday and Veronica suggests they hide someone to do, if they can’t agree, and Tono chides her for wasting money because she’s a big money maker now. Veronica, finally exasperated tells Tono that they can talk about it tomorrow, if he even cares, and walks away.

Lili finishes Kika’s video but turns it off as soon as she starts talking about her family. Pablo tells Lili that Jorge must be worried, but Lili doesn’t care. Pablo knows how horrible it feels to love someone though and not know where they are, and Lili considers this as the sunglasses man comes back to warn them the bus is leaving. He walks away, and Lili follows him with Pablo. When they get to the bus, Pablo announces that he and Lili are staying, and the man gets angry that he’s changed his mind so many times. Pablo declares they’re staying and he can’t force them either way, but the man grabs Lili and holds her at knifepoint. The man demands Pablo give him the money he promises and Pablo hands it over, so the man lets Lili go. Pablo holds her, and they walk away as Lili asks him why they are staying when Pablo must find his father. Pablo tells her he will, but he can’t let her destroy Jorge while he finds his father. Lili can’t believe this is happening and reminds Pablo that, if they go back to Mexico, Jorge is going to have him deported. Pablo considers this.

Mauricio and Anifer come out of her room and Mauricio complains that the movie sucked. They go to the fining room where Renee is looking at a family photo of Mauricio’s parents with Fabian’s. Mauricio promises to help her tomorrow and Anifer wonders who Noel is. Renee explains that he was a friend of her grandfather, Bosco, and then both Renee and Mauricio go to get more popcorn. Once alone, Anifer goes to answer the door and finds Fabian there. He asks if she remembers him and she recognizes him as Mauricio’s friend and lets him inside. Fabian tells Anifer that he heard about her mother and gives her his condolences as Mauricio and Renee come back and demand to know what he’s doing there. Fabian asks them to be calm because he’s not there to rock the boat but to resolve Renee’s house’s situation. Mauricio demands he leave them alone, as Renee has lived in her house all her life and can prove it, on top of being his si…Renee screams neighbor but Fabian wonders what is happening. Renee then asks him to leave and Mauricio escorts him to the door, but Fabian looks at Anifer and declares that she is growing into a beautiful, young girl. Anifer wonders why he’s mentioned her and Renee tells her it’s nothing as Mauricio shoves Fabian out the door.

That night, Veronica is in her room when Tono walks in, sits down next to her, and begins to undress. Veronica wonders what he’s doing and Tono explains that he is getting ready for bed. Veronica looks at him and Tono gets the hint that he is not welcome in their bedroom anymore. He grabs his pajamas, his pillow, and storms off.

Outside his house, Mauricio warns Fabian to not threaten him anymore because he also knows “things” about him. Fabian can’t believe he’s so specific and Mauricio explains that he will find proof of the fraud he committed at the company. Fabian is doubtful, as he’s very meticulous, but Mauricio explains that he can find witnesses to his crimes, especially all the women he lied to. Either way, Mauricio can’t believe he lied to him all these years and Fabian declares that he is not his friend or “bro 4 lyf” and he never was. In Renee’s house, Rodrigo hears the fight and goes to listen by the door as Fabian then gets in his car and reminds Mauricio that he can ruin his life in a bunch of ways, so he better be careful. Mauricio is not scared of him, so Fabian hopes he sleeps tight then and drives away. Now alone, Mauricio wonders how he will get out this mess…

Mr Alfredo, thank you for an excellent recap so promptly posted. A lot happened tonight and I believe you got it all!

It will take me overnight to digest all that happened in this episode so for now I just want to know what Kika's smile meant when Val asked her for help. Is ol' "todo un caballero" Georgy Boy in for some trouble with the blonde lady who can't seem to get out of Mexico?

More tomorrow.

Andy

Thank you, Alfredo. Your recap was excellent and much appreciated. I was on the phone for a lot of this. : (

I felt sorry for Renée getting inadvertently socked as she tried to break up the fight.

Too funny: Jorge is being forced to deal with those he considers “undesirables” (Kika and Rodrigo) to assist him in finding Lilí.

It was good to be on the road out in the countryside and out of Logatoys and the cul-de-sac.

It looks like Lilí is having more of an adventure than she might have wanted.

Thanks so much Alfredo. Life has been so busy lately I usually end up seeing only a few minutes of this telenovela. I would be lost without your wonderful recaps and the input of the loyal patio.

Wishing everyone a meaningful Good Friday ("happy" doesn't seem quite right, considering)....

JudyB, witching you the same on the start of the Easter weekend.

I also have to add that I was happy that Rodrigo overheard Fabián threatening Mauricio..

No, WISHING you the same, JudyB!

Thanks Mr. Alfredo. Well, a few things are happening, no real surprises.
Pabs and Lil: So did you think this was going to be like going to Disney, Lil?

I am glad to see Vero has come to her senses. Luuuurve or no Luuuurve, Tono's original shenanigan with sabotaging her getting the job she now has is grounds for divorce in my mind. Tono, by his own doing is unemployable attempting to land a technical job with off color jokes and NO skills. She is doing the right thing placing him in a Glad odor control twist-top and out to the curb.

Kika is gradually being redeemed. She is a little shit, but down inside if you claw down deep enough it appears there is a salvageable nugget of goodness.

Managing a flat repair shop just isn't going to get it Neuron. You need a job as maybe a skydiving instructor, or on the bomb squad.

BUT the real story is the Mau--Fabian show. That ongoing tussle between those two looks like they should both have their Tri Delta pledge shirts on and squabbling over a hairbrush or a Pony-O.

Mau is actually still TALKING to Fakian, his arch enemy now? Unbelievable. Wouldn't the average guy be plotting to kill him?

Later

Hoppy Friday

Thank you, Alfredo.

It hasn't occurred to Renée or Mau, but in order to verify that she is daughter of Noel, Renée should do a DNA test with Anifer on aunt/niece relationship.

The battle with Fabian will not be easy. He has his tentacles everywhere - paternity rights on Anifer, property rights on Renée's house, shares of Logatoys through Falcon - everything Mau finds dear to him.

I was relieved that Pablo decided to return Lili back to her home. Crossing with the visa in Tijuana is one thing, crossing through the desert without passport is quite another.

Sooooo the sneaky back story here is that Renee and Fab might be half siblings, If true, her Saintly Mother was banging a married man, and had his child no less. That might explain why she was so mum about everything.

Well, Renee, the final qualification of adulthood is to see your parents as they really are, rather than through the rose colored glasses of a daughter or son. The cruel thing is the old hoochie is already dead, so Renee can never really have closure about it. Welcome to life on the plantation Hon.

Lucio, I am just curious, and it is pertinent. I know DNA or even blood tests can assure one that a certain person IS NOT a parent, but can the reverse be true also? Can a DNA test guarantee that Fabian IS her Father? I have not Googled it yet, so I don't know, and even then TN logic might overrule science.

Lucio said: "The battle with Fabian will not be easy. He has his tentacles everywhere - paternity rights on Anifer, property rights on Renée's house, shares of Logatoys through Falcon - everything Mau finds dear to him."

Yup, only one real solution KILL HIM.

Kirby: I rather prefer to see Fabian be victorious in the end.

Alfredo: You've really outdone yourself in this recap.

Lucio: Are we're really sure Maria is dead & buried 6 feet under ?

Thank you, Alfredo, for your recap! Wow, so much happened in this episode.

"Mau is actually still TALKING to Fakian, his arch enemy now? Unbelievable. Wouldn't the average guy be plotting to kill him?"
The average intelligent (that being the key word) guy would have lawyered up by now and been advised to stop talking to Fakian.

I'm really concerned that Fabian will abscond with Anifer. Legally he has the parental right. Yikes.

Watching the ΔΔΔ fight (lol-thank you Kirby), I noticed Mau was sockless and sporting the shrunken Capri pants look, too.

My CrockPot theory™ Is that Kika and Jorge will end up together. Just a feeling, because they are such opposites and it would lend a madcap humor effect to their story. He could help her discover boundaries and she could help him escape that mental cage in which he lives.

Alfredo - forgot to tell you that I love the title of your recap, too.

BTW, was anyone else bothered by Veronica making Toño sleep on the couch? He is an idiot, albeit a harmless one, but who is she to swan back into the house after being absent so much and make him give up the bed? That just hit me the wrong way. Maybe because in true role-reversal, the "working traveling hashebeenunfaithful? husband" (Vero) gets the couch?

And I hate Vero's hair. It makes her face look hard. Okay. Rants over.

Good Morning! MR. AAA, thank you for yet another one of your excellent recaps!

Jarifa, "Jorge is being forced to deal with those he considers “undesirables” (Kika and Rodrigo) to assist him in finding Lilí." Lili running off will definitely be the turning point for Jorge. One thing I can say about Jorgey Boy is that he genuinely cares for all his children; though he does have a long way to go before he learn how to show it. I actually shed a tear for him when he was praying!

Andy, I wondered about that smile Kika gave too. Is she plotting a way to get into Jorge's good graces? Or is she truly happy that she can help out the family?

Kirby, "That ongoing tussle between those two looks like they should both have their Tri Delta pledge shirts on and squabbling over a hairbrush or a Pony-O." You have such away with words! I cheered when Mau punched Fakian, but geez, Renee looked more beat up than Fakian!

I still don't like how the writers have changed Vero. I do agree that Tonto had it coming, but she seems so cold toward him. She put up with him for years and didn't seem phased by him. She seemed very content with him when the show started; and now she is like an ice queen toward him.

Lucio, "The battle with Fabian will not be easy. He has his tentacles everywhere - paternity rights on Anifer, property rights on Renée's house, shares of Logatoys through Falcon - everything Mau finds dear to him." You are so right! And when you put it that way, it is clear that Fakian is attacking from every which way. Mau may know secrets about Fakian that he can use against him, but Fakian has the upper hand. If he could use his daughter to stop a marriage (and he knows how attached Mau has gotten to her), what else is he willing to use her for...the possibilities are endless. Also, "Renée should do a DNA test with Anifer on aunt/niece relationship." I got the impression that Mau only told Renee about Fakian's involvement in the demise of Logatoys and Mau. I don't think he shared the information about Fakian being Anifer's father...but I may be wrong.

Kirby, " I know DNA or even blood tests can assure one that a certain person IS NOT a parent, but can the reverse be true also?" Yes, the reverse is true...that is how Fakian got Mau to believe that Anifer was his daughter. The test gives a percentage of the possibility that a person is a child's biological parent...the test compares a child’s DNA pattern with that of the assumed father to determine if there is a match.

Doris, our comments crossed..."was anyone else bothered by Veronica making Toño sleep on the couch?" Raising my hand!

Vero-Tono-Couch: NO

Not actually abusing your children directly does not qualify you for special treatment. He should have been gone a long time ago. He's a gladhanding con man. I'd say the one jumping his/her ass up at the crack of dawn every week day and who is buying groceries, making the mortgage payments, and paying the electric gets the bed.

RgvChick, I do not find Vero’s attitude odd. Yes, she is cold towards Toño because she has had it. There are people that take a lot from others with hardly a complaint but when they are done they are truly done without much fanfare. That is how I see her.

When Valentina asked Kika for help, Kika looked suspicious. I don't think Kika's help reaching out on social media is as selfless as Jorge and Valentina believe. But something is better than nothing, and it should be appreciated. I hope he follows through and thanks her at least. I thought Lili would actually have felt some remorse at the pain she's causing Jorge and possibly her siblings, but nothing. It's Pablo who has to ground her to reality.

How expensive is it to cross the border? I find it hard to believe that Pablo would have saved enough money to do so, given the wages in Mexico. Most people actually depend on family in the states to fund their trip, unless they cut a deal with human traffickers.

If Tono and Vero divorce, wouldn't she have to pay alimony until he gets a fulltime job? I can see her complaining about that if it gets to that point. Also, just because he's improper and ridiculous at times doesn't mean that he lacks the engineering skills. He just needs to rein himself in and relearn proper behavior. It could have been years since he's been out in the job market.

The problem with Vero is that her current behavior isn't even a product of Tono's early attempt at sabotaging her. If it was, she could have cut him off sooner, but instead she forgave that. But since then she's changed and she's been insensitive and entitled in the decision making process (excluding the break, because those things can be very one-sided). Now they both get on each other's nerves to the point they still can't even bring themselves to really talk.

Maia

Thank You. I see Tono as flat out dishonest and selfish. Not to mention worthless. He may be keeping his kids alive while in his care, but I do not see any real parenting going on, like setting rules/boundaries and sticking to them. Actually teaching them anything useful.

The job interview was the kiss of death to me. Both parents are not employed, and a family with three small kids who do not look affluent probably can not go on for long like that. She has a chance at a good job and he tries to destroy that chance is unforgivable Everything else is just nails in the coffin.

Yes, he is charming, and has a great smile and a line of bullshit a mile long. Show me a flim flam man who does not.

If he actually leaves it might force him to get a real job and actually work instead of getting by on smoke and mirrors and bad jokes.

Sorry RGV.

Parenting is a real job, and an unappreciated, underpaid one. Just because they don't show it on the screen, doesn't mean the man is not parenting his kids. By the same token, that lady hasn't been parenting her kids at all either since the job. Money doesn't buy everything.

Oh, and sorry Doris and Maia too. I just flat do not like Tono I guess. Or maybe a man's perspective vs a woman's. You are known as the gentler gender as I understand it.

But then I want Mauricio to kill Anifer's Dad too.

I understand your perspective Kirby. It's just I continue to expect Vero to be the bigger person, because that's what we originally started out with. And he's improved, still with faults, but there's improvement. I don't expect her to put up with his antics, but I don't expect that condescending behavior she has been touting around either.

Doris, I agree that her hair doesn't seem to go with her well. It exacerbates her appearance whenever she shows her attitude, probably what the writers were going for.

Maia

Kirby, ITA with your take on Toño.

Kirby - I can make very strong arguments against Toño, but just for today I'm feeling kindly toward him. He is an imbecile. Tomorrow I might want to kick him to the curb. 😉

Maia - yes, Vero probably would have to pay alimony and a larger chunk of child support to Toño until he gets a job, if the laws are like most of them here in the US. Plus someone would have to pay for the aftercare/babysitter/nanny for their three kids while both parents are at work. In the state I live in, the past two years IRS income tax returns are used in a formula to determine who pays how much in monthly child support. Who knows about Mexico?

Hey, maybe somebody can introduce Nerón’s friend Roberto to Verónica. Now that could be interesting.

That's one of the wonderful things about our group here on this patio. We are not all cut from the same cloth and can gracefully have different opinions. Wouldn't it be boring for us all to sing as a choir?

Kirby said "Wouldn't it be boring for us all to sing as a choir?" I agree, if we all sang tenor, it would be boring. A really good choir, however, has a mix of voices, from soprano to bass, to make a beautiful sound. :-)

Okay .... I've been pondering this Vero/Toño situation and what really bothers me is that they have not, as best as I can recall, gotten marriage counseling. NOT that this can fix a truly broken marriage(!), but having an unemotionally involved person help them talk out their issues might be able to salvage it, IF both partners are willing to listen and change. Reminds me of that column, decades ago, from a women's magazine, "Can This Marriage Be Saved?" Was it Redbook, or Ladies Home Journal? One of those that could be found in all the doctors' waiting rooms. I think this one can be saved if both V & T are willing, though they probably have not hit their true bottom yet. It's just that type of telenovela.

Doris: Ladies Home Journal. Now we know where Anifer got her design talent--not from Mauricio but from Grandpa Noel.

Thank you Alfredo for the insightful storytelling.

RGV Mama, I think Roberto was in Doble Vida as a bad guy. Did we see him there?

I see Tonto as a short , idiotic, lazy, bratty man. When he left Fidelito by the pool he should have been shot. Flirty texting and ignoring the kids could have been as dangerous. Killing the dog was inexcusable, not funny. Not helping the kids with homework and projects was bad, but being late for school habitually makes me more than annoyed. One of his worst behaviors was mimicking Vero. The kids may not have seen him, but the more upset he becomes, the more they will see as he relaxes his "standards". And, busting into Vero's meeting . Bad. Bad. Bad. Toño was meant to be cute and funny, but he isn't. (Beanie time.)

I love this TN, I love the recaps, and I especially love the discussions here.

I'll stick up for Toño a bit even though he is a jerk. After all, he has learned how to crack open eggs with one hand, and I think he has been more of a father with his kids lately and less of an overly indulgent buddy to them. But he is still a jerk.

Well, I still like Toño somewhat, but I have to admit that this is very lukewarm sticking up for him :-)

The discussion of who gets the bed and who sleeps on the couch is also fun. But traditionally it's always the man who gets banished to the couch, and it would be ungentlemanly to demand otherwise. Maybe in the upcoming Brave New World things will be different.

I do have to wonder about R&R if they ever have a huge fight. Since there is not necessarily a "he-guy" and a "she-guy" in a same-sex relationship, how do they decide?

This might be one benefit of a same-sex relationship, that these things are so complicated that they just decide to kiss and make up.

:-)

Ah, I forgot to mention Good Friday. My mom was very religious and Good Friday was a very serious, very somber day, a day of fasting. It didn't hurt us and we appreciated Easter's chocolate all the more. I don't much observe Good Friday anymore, though some years I will, more in remembrance of my mother than for any other reason, but it is such an important day in Christianity and was mentioned here earlier, I just wanted to mark it.

Excellent Alfredo.

"Noel would die again if he saw what his son has become". Indeed!

"Jorge looks at his family picture and cries, wondering where Lili may be. He then prays to God to help him find his daughter and apologizes for any sins he may have committed that his children may pay for". The sins of the father. His going to his neighbors for help...A crack in Jorge's stern facade...

I felt a lump in my throat watching Pablo and Lili. Will they do the right thing and go home?

Fabian is disgusting. To think he is Ani's father and Renees brother? Terrible.

What generous, thoughtful comments.

I wish you all the love and joy of Easter. I am grateful for so very much - for my life, my family, my friends and to you my dear patio.

Diana

Llinda, thanks!! You're right! Roberto WAS in LDVDEC..he was Erasmo...Leticia's husband who came to the US and married (notso)Bonita!!

Kirby, "That's one of the wonderful things about our group here on this patio. We are not all cut from the same cloth and can gracefully have different opinions. Wouldn't it be boring for us all to sing as a choir?" HIGH FIVE!! So true!!

Maia, " I continue to expect Vero to be the bigger person, because that's what we originally started out with. And he's improved, still with faults, but there's improvement. I don't expect her to put up with his antics, but I don't expect that condescending behavior she has been touting around either." My sentiments exactly! Thank you for expressing that so eloquently. It's not that I like Tonto (because he still gives me the hibbie jibbies every time I see him). I just don't like what Vero has become.

Jarifa, "There are people that take a lot from others with hardly a complaint but when they are done they are truly done without much fanfare." I can understand that, but again, I suppose I was expecting more from Vero...maybe a bit more reasonable and altruistic.

Andy: " "he-guy" and a "she-guy" in a same-sex relationship, how do they decide?"

I believe in that case, they just switch sides of the bed. Brutal, but if it works.............................

:-)

Thank you Alfredo! And thank you in advance for doing my night tonight as I am just not up to starting at a computer screen for hours.

First, I hope everyone is having a blessed Good Friday. May all of you have a lovely Easter this weekend. Happy Passover to those who observe Passover as well.

Now about the show. I think the one thing that struck me was how Jorge prayed and asked forgiveness of his sins. He later showed grace to his neighbors Rodrigo and Rafael, asking for their help. Jorge learned to humble himself before his family and neighbors.

Fabian is an awful person. He gets worse every minute.

Also, thank you everyone for your well wishes! My face is slowly recovering, but the fatigue is terrible. My eye cannot blink so I cannot look at my computer screen for very long.

Kirby, I don't know about switching sides of the bed, it could be dangerous. If one decided to apologize and make up, he could just roll over the wrong way and wind up falling on the floor and hurting himself.

:-)

Cynthia, thank you for stopping by and letting us know how you are! I'm happy to hear that you are recovering even if it is slowly. Take good care of yourself and have a great Easter.

Andy

Cynthia you are a tough girl and a smart one at that. I know you will recover, it is just going to take patience and work. And prayers from your patio family. Glad to hear that you are (maybe slowly) on the mend.

Joining in with the rest of the Patio to wish you well, Cynthia as you recover, and to also thank your pal Alfredo for covering for you until you feel better. My mom's was not much of a believer (although my Dad was) but she did quote the Bible frequently, especially "This too shall pass". And in different circumstances, "Get Thee behind me Satan!"/

So I will pray that "this too shall pass" and that God's good and perfect will for us to be healthy and strong will manifest as you heal and feel better each day.

Cynthia, wishing you and yours a blessed Easter.

Just a quick, last minute note to say thank you to Alfredo.

Also, Cynthia, I keep you in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. Life is what happens to you while you are making other plans.

Andy, it was very moving to read about your mother. The ghosts of those whom I have loved and lost are always c!ose to me.

Loved all the comments, and I agree that the patio is a comfortable place because we can all express our opinions without being criticized.

My take on Tono and Vero...their life was turned upside down when Tono lost his job and Vero went to work full-time. Neither has been dealing well with their new situation. Tono seems to be doing better taking care of the kids and home, but he is not doing well with Vero's new large and in charge personality , and Vero has not been spending much time at home. They are both at fault. Their marriage can only be saved if they both want to save it. They cannot seem to work their problems out by themselves, so they should get counseling...but will they. Divorce is never cheap or easy , and there are three young children to consider it's complicated!!
