Por Amar Sin Ley, 3/29/18 Chapter 18: TBD

SJW Juan wins big against Roberto by having the bartender of the club testify the pearl necklace was used to pay off the accuser, Sra. Berenstein's, daughter's huge bar bill.  The charges against the housekeeper, Silvia, are dropped and she refuses to charge the daughter for setting up false charges against her.

Silvia proudly and loudly praises and blesses Juanito and then Mama de Juanito starts cheering from the back bench till the judge tells her to shut it.  And thus, we note that Juanito comes by it honestly.....Sra. Berenstein is told to pay a fine and compensate Silvia for time lost and pain and/or suffering equal to the amount in wages earned over fifteen years the woman has worked for her.  She hisses at Roberto that it's unfair and he reminds her it's the least and best to hope for considering her daughter's crime of  falsely  claiming crimes against another person.

Alejandra visits Virginia and suggests the kids may have learned a large life lesson; Ginny doubts it.  She'd give anything if they actually cared enough to spend time with her instead of spending her monedas [coins].  Ale thinks Ginny's such a great gal she actually gets on her knees and kisses Ginny's hand.  This has me somewhat puzzled and put off as totally unprofessional.

Ricardo, meanwhile, has a new client: a fifty-sixty something gentleman who is simply tired of living with his wife of thirty years.  No reason other than he is just now sick of her and ready to kick her aging butt to the curb.  (Nice guy!)  Yeah, he has a lover and two grown kids who don't live with them any longer; no, he has no intention of living with or marrying the other woman.  He wants his freedom and that's that.  So, Ric says, he'll be divorced in a couple of weeks once the paperwork is settled.  She can have the house, the car, the furniture--just get her out of his life!  (Yep, a real charmer.)

As for Gustavo, he has a meeting with Vega who is extremely upset with Gus's taking his family life so lightly--no REAL hombre shows such disrespect for his wife and child!  As it is, Vega advises suing the woman for humiliation and publication of their sexual intimacy (not sure of the U.S. equivalent).  Gus will have to offer a settlement to cover his ass (literally as well as figuratively) for emotional pain and suffering and maybe add an apology formally, if he cares to.  Al then suggests Leticia over Roberto for this job.  And, the only reason Vega keeps Gus on the team is that he's a great attorney, BUT if the firms suffers then Gus is gone! Gus tucks his tail between his legs and hangdogs it out of Alonso's office.

Paula advises Ale to be happy despite Ric's wife--EX wife, Mama!  Pasta playtime ahead!!!!!!!  (FF>>)

Back at the courthouse, Rob introduces himself and congratulates Juan Lopez, Unknown Attorney at Law.  He tells Juanito that he has a great future ahead and it's rare to go up against a lawyer as well prepared as Juan was.  Happy, happy, joy, joy!!

That night, Ale arrives at Ric's bachelor pad dressed in kill 'em dead red.  (Hey,  is that my dining room table and chairs!)

Across town, it's another late night for Rob and Leonardo.  Rob mentions the kid lawyer who won against him in court that day.

There's a celebratory supper at Silvia's that night and Juanito praises his gal pal for her able assistance.  Fer's thrilled cuz she's so enthralled with him.  Juan, though,  is upset thinking that Vega's firm will now see him as the evil competition rather than a friend and possible asset.

While Ric sets the table for dinner, Ale checks out the fake book on the coffee table in the living room.  She notes the 200 peso bill and her wedding garter and then smiles to herself and then over innocently at Ric.

Mama de Juan advises him to build his own great reputation and law firm.  The night ends and Juan is notably affectionate and taken (I guess in his own introspective way) with Fer.  They bump and kiss cheeks bye-bye awkwardly but she'll be happy to play detective with him the next time he's in need.

As for Chef Ric, his mama taught him all he knows.  She's a party planner up in Cancun where he grew up.  Would be nice if he could bring her down there to live but not gonna happen--at least not  with the overhead of Elena and her kids.....However, over dessert, he tells Ale that he's "interested".  She smiles back knowingly.....

Leo cannot get anything solid from the hotel videos.  Rob suggests that it is absurd to think Carlos would have purposely killed a hooker the night before he planned to get married and leave on his honeymoon.  Ok. then perhaps there's somebody out there--either a former client or a business associate--that would have reason to frame him for murder and see him locked away in jail.  (Ding ding ding ding ding!!!!  Juanito, call your home office!)

Back at Ric's, Ale asks how he came by her garter.  He admits he picked it up and that with women, if there's something interesting about them he likes a keepsake.  She's okay with that and says they're the same.  Unfortunately, she doesn't have anything of his as a keepsake.  He kisses her and she kisses back.  He comments that perhaps now she does and she says yes indeedy!

Leo says too many hypothetical pathways to follow and too little time.  They go back to basics: location, time and means.  The death was between 7-8 and Carlos left at 8.  Since she was asphyxiated (strangled) they have no link tying him to that type of death.

Ric and Ale are enjoying each other for dessert at this point, now.  He wants to avoid her situation with Carlos becoming problematic.  She, on the other hand figures one has nothing to do with other and less with what she/they are feeling.  She does not want to end up thinking it through too much.  It's the here and now and the here and WOW!  They both care for each other and want to be together.  They kiss some more.

Leo and Rob determine to go back to the room and check details for something to prove Carlos's innocence (But I couldn't follow the dialogue).

Ric drives Ale home.  (I cannot believe they didn't do the deed--what with Paula's influence? Guess we'll never know thanks to the editing.....)

The next day, lovely Let-ya has Gus's papers ready to sign for the suit against Malena--destruction of his personal and professional reputation.  He wants a court order taking down the video.  Not able to unless she's convicted.  He is angry as hell over this.

Leo and Rob visit Carlos and explain they're needing to find a motive for somebody else to have framed him--an angry client, etc.  or somebody that might have had it out for Patricia.  He tries to concentrate but he's going stir crazy inside.  Patience, grasshopper.....

Benjamin is happy for Letya since Gus is using her for this suit of his.  It will no doubt help her get a step up and over the naive and troublesome Olivia.  She blames herself for trusting in the wrong person in the firm to help get her that Sr. position- him!  He says not so fast.  Looky here!  I just won (or am about to win) the suit for this bank and they're going to be putting in a pile o' pesos into this law firm.  No way Vega won't make me a partner on the spot!  She rewards him with a prize--herself, natch.

Leo and Rob ask if Patti had a change in attitude or behavior.  Carlos thinks back a bit and says for a moment or two she did seem a bit nervous.  Don't know if she was taking drugs or not which might have caused the angst.  They will check the toxicology report.

Next morning in their personal office, Ale kisses Ric hello.  They make plans for dinner that evening. They discuss the new case--the guy who wants to get rid of his wife just because.   The wife doesn't want to divorce and will put up a fight.  Ric doesn't like the man's coldness over this proposed divorce. She likes Ric's sensitivity.  Lots of kissing and cuddling.

Leo and Rob ask the medical examiner's office to check for a toxicology report or to do a special examination (?).  The guy will give them what he has and maybe check for something that was overlooked (?).

Benji has a meeting with the bank's missing embezzling employee.  His lawyer says he was missing  due to a change of domicile and lack of communication only.  That's all.  So, in good faith could we come to some agreement?  "--Are you trying to bribe [subornar] me? You are also liable for federal charges under the law.  No. Pay up or you go to jail, and believe me.  I stand to gain a lot more if you go to jail!"

Thank you for the recap. I missed parts of this one last night.

I would have pressed charges against the girl. They weren't even sorry for what they did to the lady; instead they were upset they got caught in this embarrassment. I hope the Berenstein lady pays big, cause no one can ever erase the humiliation of being arrested in front of loved ones and neighbors.

Juan's mother is embarrassing to deal with at times. I guess that's where he gets it from.

I remember Benjamin telling off Ricardo at the beginning of the novela that the reason the firm doesn't fire him is because he's the one who makes the most money from his cases. So why hasn't he been upgraded to senior attorney? Did he even get a sitdown with Alonso when Leo got shot?

It's a little unnerving knowing that Leticia is going to help Gustavo with the intimate material lawsuit.

Sterling recount, Jardinera
...Ale arrives at Ric's bachelor pad dressed in kill 'em dead red. (And here I thought her color was that gorgeous green she wore in LQNPA.)
...Ric and Ale are enjoying each other for dessert at this point, now. (Love the image.)

I thought it was very gentlemanly of Ric to drive Ale home and ending the evening with a kiss. However, it was a bit risky, in the office, with Letty running around loose, for them to get started with a morning kiss and leaving the office door wide open (strange doors, if you ask me; I'm surprised new clients even know how to operate them).

I got a kick out of Gus being told to get with Letty because she's familiar with these types of cases and can come at them with a certain cold-bloodedness.

Yes, Benji was handling a bank fraud case at the beginning of the show. This must be his payoff. He certainly comes through as honest and unbribe-able. I guess he's only a cheater and a fraud in his personal life.

It's only a matter of time before Juanito comes in to help Leo and Rob.

Thanks, Jardinera.

Silvia proudly and loudly praises and blesses Juanito and then Mama de Juanito starts cheering from the back bench till the judge tells her to shut it. And thus, we note that Juanito comes by it honestly..... - ha!

I can just picture Mama de Juanito loudly bringing her big baby boy homemade lunches once (if?) he's working at Vega. Everybody will love her except Leticia.

Sra. Berenstein is told to pay a fine and compensate Silvia for time lost and pain and/or suffering equal to the amount in wages earned over fifteen years the woman has worked for her.

Squee! I like this judge.

Have to admit Leticia did seem very professional with Gus.

I give Ale and Ric's first kiss four stars. (But I guess she doesn't feel comfortable yet wiping her lipstick off him.) So cute her catching him safekeeping her garter and peso. The logistics were strange though. She arrived on her own in the evening, but he drove her home in what seemed to be the light of day. Looks like we will have to depend on Momma Paula to pry out of her daughter what happened, cause they were standing and not going horizontal into the commercial.

Great work, Jardinera. I was hoping that someone would throw the book at Jimena's spoiled brat, but if this outcome gets her off our screens I'm satisfied. And Roberto did well, too, in reminding his client that you can't treat other people like trash and expect to come out of it squeaky clean.

Juan was definitely embarrassed at his mother's behavior and this might be what he needs to realize that he has to learn to keep his cool. He knows his work and he dresses well, so he should have no obstacles in his way.

Benjamin's cases seem to be ones that don't see a courtroom. He has not been promoted because of his attitude. Just as Leticia lacks empathy, so does he. It's harder to tell which of the two is worse for that. He is more public lately; she is sneakier and more cold-blooded. She may or may not mess up Gustavo's case. She may agree with all of us that he was an idiot for getting involved with Milena and making sex videos but may realize that if she saves his bacon that could help her get a promotion.

Benjamín is a senior lawyer, but not a partner, which is his goal (as Victoria, Ricardo and Roberto)... and Leticia is a junior lawyer, who hasn't the freedom she wish, and depends on the directions of others, and of course earns less money.

I think they don't show much of Benjamín cases, because right now is enough with his time on screen... plotting and showing how envious he is... I really like Pablo Valentín as an actor, but the character is insoportable.

Juan did surely look so embarrassed with his mom praising him so loudly.

Loved Ale and Ric's first kiss and how she's totally not holding back.Agree that it was odd they didn't do the deed, they were so in to it I thought she wouldn't make it back home. I kept being distracted by how she kept pulling down her dress though, guess it was too tight.

Thanks for the great and funny recap.

I like how, though all the (male) lawyers wear suits, each has his own style, i.e.,bRoberto with his wide lapels, Gustavo his bold, yet not flashy colors, etc. As for the women, Victoria sometimes looks very professional and sometimes borders on the inappropriate (her white jeans and bodysuit of a couple of days ago); Olivia favors a lot of lace, and Alejandra sometimes looks dowdy and other times looks sensational; etc.

Bienvenido, Tquir. Glad you're joining us.

Benjamin is a total jerk. He needs a few lessons in humility.

On the wardrobe issue, I also like how Alonso's ties and pocket squares always match.

Ava and tquir, welcome to the patio along with another 1146. I got a kick out of e picking lint off Ric's clothes and I noted the skirt pulling as well

Ale's red dress needed some TLC from wardrobe. A seam on her left thigh was coming apart. Don't know if it was from her pulling on it, though, but it was very obvious.

Gus tucks his tail between his legs and hangdogs it out of Alonso's office.

What a great word picture, Jardinera. A perfect description of the scene.

Also got a kick out of:

"It's here and now and the here and WOW!

I guess I just assumed they did the deed, since Alejandra came home in daylight. And they seemed at a whole new level the next morning. But...for sure we didn't see anything. And no rose petals wafting around either.

Now, here's my problem with Juan and Mom. Not so much the shouting (although it is grating) but the fact that he always looks like he has acid reflux or something. Or ulcerative colitis. Never have a seen a young successful man look so SOUR!

His sleuth girlfriend is definitely growing on me though. She looked dowdy at first but is transforming into cuter and cuter as she makes some inroads with sourpuss Juan. Good luck in getting a smile out of him, sweet lady!

Thanks Jardinera. Got to watch the episode and then enjoyed it all over again with your recap.

According to both sites I checked there is an episode tonight. I will post a discussion page to hit the site at 11PM, when my recaps typically post.

Jardinera, thank you so much for another stellar recap. I haven't had the opportunity to watch the episode yet, but read the recap and enjoyed it very much.

I especially loved your description of Gustavo's exit from Alonso's office "Gus tucks his tail between his legs and hangdogs it out of Alonso's office" and "Juan Lopez, Unknown Attorney at Law".

Irene

Thanks Jardinera654. Ale and Virginia
Kinda remind me of a grand mother and
Granddaughter, they seem to have a fondness For each other so that lawyer
Client professionalism flys out the window. Besides I've been watchin these tns for years and they very seldom follow true to life protocol &
That's usaully for effect that they don't do that. We've already seen where they've made a mess of the court
Rules a regulations. Letting somebody
Prosecute who is not a prosecuter.Lets
See what rules they brake tonight.

Jaun shouldn't stress himself out.He's
About to get a call from a prestigious
Law firm. maybe. He's good at finding
The evidence. They could use his help.
If he can help them out he may not be "unknown" for long.

Ale and RIC are gonna have to fight The exes. And it gonna be a nasty one.
Elena and letty gonna pull all kinds of Nasty tricks on ale. She better put on her game face. And she might ask
Moma Paula, she look like she might no
How to fight heffas like them.

Thanks Jardinera.
