Novelera: Looking forward to seeing the recap of more EVIL in the Latino version of "House Of Cards".
Wow! I think this novela gets better and better. So many unexpected twists. We again see Pastrana following Joel and Patrick.
In the hospital Steve, eyes closed, remembers Eliza telling him to try to remember. He doesn’t seem to know that Margot is there.
Jennifer wakes up beside Max and tells him she’s sure she’s pregnant. She says she felt the same way the morning after she got pregnant with Charlie.
Eliza is shown the new truck and the whole clan at Andrés’ house are happy. One of the children, I think Tomás, mentions that this will be a panadería rodante (a bakery on wheels).
Vicentito gives a demonstration on his laptop to the more and more despicable Paula. He’s showing her that he can get young girls to meet him by contacting them on social media. I assume they’ll then be kidnapped. Paula doesn’t turn a hair at this.
Pastrana tells Paula that he thinks Joel has a pista (clue or lead) about Senator Slimy’s watch. We next see Joel threatening the pawnbroker, who can’t really tell him where Sofía is.
Joel is walking the streets showing Sofía’s picture to some of the inhabitants of LA. We see Sofía and Eliza renting a place. I’m not sure if it’s a place to live or a place to bake things.
Later we see a lot of baked goods being put in the back of the Sofía and Eliza truck. We see Carmen throwing a soccer ball back and forth over the border wall with her grandchildren.
Oh please! One of the millions of inhabitants of LA recognizes Sofía’s picture. We don’t hear the dialog with Joel.
At Casa Andrés they are having a BBQ and celebrating Sofía and Eliza’s first $2,000 in sales (lotsa cookies, eh!). Sofía realizes that she forgot to buy ice and takes off in the truck to do so.
We see gutless Max watching his wife and children at Andrés’ house; and we also see that Jennifer has followed him there and is steaming.
When Sofía comes out of the supermarket pushing a cart, she sees Joel and runs into his arms. But he gives her a cold look and handcuffs her instead. We see Pastrana perched on a convenient rooftop with a gun with a scope. [Boy, he sure gets around!] Then a police car pulls up. The LA cop gives Sofía her Miranda warning.
Pastrana calls Paula about the problem with the place crawling with cops. She tells him Sofía cannot be allowed to make a declaration. Ernesto walks in on the end of this conversation and realizes Sofía has been found.
Pastrana shoots, but only hits the windshield of the police car.
Paula tells Ernesto: ¡Por favor, no hagas un tormento en un vaso de agua! (Don’t make a mountain out of a molehill.) She lies, telling him Pastrana’s orders were to bring Sofía back to Mexico.
Joel somehow gets the drop on Pastrana, but some thugs sent by Vicentito start shooting at Joel, and Pastrana gets away.
Paula asks someone for the file on Irene Benítez.
Ernesto is meeting with some guys about stopping esa huelga (that workers’ strike) when he gets a call.
Andrés and Eliza find the truck. Some guy tells him he noticed her because of her being chula (very pretty), but saw her being taken away by the police.
Sofía’s picture, and her real identity, appear on the news. The children see.
Paula talks to Senator Slimy over the phone. He’s upset about Sofía being in custody in LA (considering all she knows about HIM). Paula tells him she thought Joel would turn her over to the Mexican authorities. SS insists that the crime was committed in Mexico. Paula tells him that Irene had dual citizenship (thus the scene reviewing Irene’s file). SS fires off some angry unconjugated verbs. He’s sweating bullets.
Jennifer rags on Max for going to look at his wife and children. She has him firmly by his very small cojones and announces that they are moving the business and themselves to New York City.
Steve remembers a child: Damian.
Paula tells Ernesto she did not order Sofía killed. It could have been Don Chente or the Texan. Ernesto finally wonders about where his daughter might be. He and Paula see Sofía’s picture on the news in Mexico.
Joel comes to see Sofía and tells her that she killed Irene. First she asks him how much he was paid by Ernesto. He doesn’t believe her about the shot coming through the window. A lawyer comes in saying that his client won’t answer any more questions.
María has a hissy fit about Sofía being arrested. Eliza handles herself with dignity, thanks María for her hospitality, and leaves with the three kids.
Sofía at first trusts the lawyer, then realizes he’s sent by the Mexican Consulate. She refuses to tell him where Alondra is.
We see Sofía in court. The lawyer says he’ll try to get her released on bail. Joel tells Patrick they can’t let her be extradited; she’d last about a half hour in Mexico. Or else she’d end up free with the aid of her husband. He wants her to face justice in the US.
The judge tells Sofía she is refused bail and must stay in jail in California until she is tried.
Ernesto gives a press conference and says there’s been a terrible mistake. He’s asked for help in getting Sofía extradited so that he can prove her innocence.
Sofía tells the lawyer to tell Ernesto that if he comes near her daughter, he’ll have his whole life to regret having done so.
Muchísimas gracias, novelera, for this terrific recap. I'm again very pleased that you included some Spanish. I also loved your saying "SS fires off some angry unconjugated verbs" and "She has him firmly by his very small cojones."
I think the place that Eliza rented is an apartment next to a bakery. At least, when she first described the location of the apartment she was interested in, Andrés said it was next to a French bakery.
Wow, I knew prices in LA were pretty high, but they must be astronomical if Eliza could make $2000 her first day or two of selling cookies.
I couldn't believe that Joel and Patrick were going out on the street asking people whether they recognized the woman (Sofia) in the photo. That seemed to me almost as bizarre as their pretty quickly finding someone who did recognize her and could point them to where they saw her.
Thanks for explaining why Paula asked for Irene's file. I was mystified.
I found myself scratching my head over the last thing that Sofia says as the episode ends: Le va a faltar vida para arrepentirse. I took faltar to mean "to lack" and thought perhaps she was saying that fi Ernesto goes near her daughter, he wouldn't have a life in which to repent because she would kill him. But I think I like your translation better, that he'll need his whole life to repent.
I did not expect this novels to take this dramatic turn so quickly! Never a dull moment. I wonder what Joel will have to do to redeem himself?
Right now I hope Sofia never forgives him!
Bella
whew, good episode and a recap to match, thanks so much novelera!
what ever happened to Joel's talk with Juan?
I think Steve was trying to imagine what it would be like to feel those things with Eliza.
Max be gone, enough with that guy, Jennifer slapped down the contract he signed and he caved.
Ernesto seems to be in touch with the Consulate in LA, (working around Paula), hmm, with Joel turning his back on her, Sofia is so screwed and Alondra is a sitting duck, how will she ever get in touch with Eliza without exposing her?
why oh why didn't Sofia make a zillion copies of the CD and the flash drive and hand them out to everyone, at the very least she should fire her lawyer.
so Joel knows Pastrana tried to kill Sofia, and he knows he works for the governor, right? or am I missing something?
Juanita: Could Slimy United States Senator Irving Hastings (R-TX) be the Baby Daddy of Irene's unborn kid ?
Is that why she got whacked ?
Deb: Jennifer is on a roll. We need to know more of her backstory & you're right: Max is a WEAKLING.
Spanish Student: Joel will look very STUPID when the truth is revealed in the end. I hope Sofia says "GOODBYE FELICIA" to his ass!
HALIMACANDY: The Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles has connections with Ernesto.
We all know Ernesto wants Sofia DEAD!
Bella: You want to bet that the massive Syndicate goes after Eliza soon ?
Steve Boudreaux, I'm still convinced Joel is just gritting his teeth and playing along with a very dangerous group trying to frame her, including Patrick. He won this round...Sofia remains in the US where she stands a chance of surviving. This is now the 3rd attempt on her life which only proves her innocence since Ernesto's/Don Chente's thugs were the ones doing the shooting. Joel is woke enuf to know they're always a step ahead (we saw him looking around for trouble while handcuffing Sofia), and lo and behold, the shooting starts as soon as her arrests her. How convenient that Patrick was with him until the end of the shootout.
I'm concerned about the innocent: Eliza and family and Andres' family. If they can track Sofia down... Alondra may be protected but not Eliza's daughter.
I wonder how long Sofia will stay in prison. Will they need an undercover female agent to protect her on the inside?
Spanish Student
Correction: How convenient that Patrick WASN'T with Joel...until the end of the shootout.
Spanish Student
Spanish Student: I'm getting more convinced that Eliza will NOT be among the living.
The Syndicate knows where Sofia is in Los Angeles & will likely still get the CD.
Spanish Student: Eliza's daughter will NOT get whacked by the Syndicate.
I'm looking forward to seeing the kids grown up in the flash forward.
Novelera, thanks again for your recap. The Senator doesn't know that Sofia and Alondra saw the pics of young girls in his house and that Sofia has the flash drive. More evidence against him that may not come out anytime soon, and once again her evidence is being guarded by Eliza. Sofia has to now protect Everyone else from the trouble that follows her...which will probably be a stereotypical telenovela stint in la carcel.
Spanish Student
He seems blinded regarding Sofia because of his love for his sister. Question: Didn't Eliza give the disc back to Sofia? At any rate now that they are living together the disc is probably hidden somewhere in the new house.
Or maybe Sofia is getting smarter and hid it and the flash drive in a secure spot? Sofia is still very innocent and trusting. If she is going to outsmart Ernesto; etc. she needs to begin thinking more creatively and intelligently.
Bella
Thank you, novelera, for the great recap.
Recent weather conditions in NY have prevented me from closely watching and commenting on this show. This show is so fast paced and I feel like I've missed a lot of details. I'm grateful for all the recaps and comments.
And speaking of NY, is that what keeps Max from reuniting with Eliza and the kids? How long will it take him to work up the guts to take his cojones back from Jennifer's bolso? The time jump?
Did they show what was on the senator's flash drive?
Paula mentioned that the Texan might never walk again. So does that confirm the senator's identity?
I want to think like Spanish Student--that Joel is playing along, trying to protect Sofia and catch the real bad guys at the same time. I'm wondering if he found out about his watch. Patrick remains an ambiguous character for me.
Not looking forward to Sofia in prison. Novelera, here come the predatory lesbians. Ugh!
dondi356
Dondi356, thanks for mentioning the remark about the Texan possibly never walking again. I totally missed that. And it appears to blow a hole in my theory that the Texan is some other evil guy up to his neck in human trafficking.
And, I'm flattered you remembered my distaste for "predatory lesbians" that I expressed when I watched a couple of episodes of Enemigo Intimo. I didn't hate that show exactly, but I was "test driving" the two new novelas from Telemundo to see which one I wanted to watch.
I have a feeling Max will not be in contact with his children until way after the time jump. They are bound to be scarred by being outrageously deserted by a father who was so affectionate and eager to have them in the US. When he eventually shows up in their lives I expect they will be bitter and angry about him.
They have never shown the contents of that flash drive. Irene had evidence which, as far as I remember, has never actually been shown. Sofía saw the deposits in Ernesto's "special" bank account. She innocently picked up Ernesto's phone when he was somewhere else and heard about the botellitas and subsequently learned from Irene that this is code for little girls who are being trafficked.
With the disc from Irene's computer and the flash drive from the Senator, Sofia has enough info to bring down the dirty guys. But she hasn't viewed everything so she doesn't know exactly what she has nor how to protect her loved ones from the consequences.. Thus a long road ahead where the bad guys win again and again.
Spanish Student
Spanish Student: The Stupidity of Joel Benitez continues....
Novelera: I'm also expecting the kids to HATE Max when the Time Jump comes because of what you've mentioned: living in disgraceful poverty, abandonment, etc.,
Jennifer will keep WINNING non-stop & I'm expecting the EVIL Alliance to up the ante by increasing the Body Count even further.
Dondi356: Predatory lesbians ? OMG! I really pray Sofia doesn't get violently raped in prison. If anything she needs to take a page out of Roxana's playbook.
Bella: Once again, Alejandro has no idea that his new partner is dirty & is the cousin of one of the Drug-Lords. WTH ?
Juanita: Big question is who likely gave the order to whack Alejandro & Roxana's parents ? Another question is why were they whacked ?
Novelera: Something tells me there's an international & political conspiracy going on here. We've got the SLIMY United States Senator from FL involved in drug trafficking, etc.,
THANKS FOR RECAPS..

So we now know that the DA's name is Priamo, and they've bugged his office.
For some reason, I hate the Oscuros more than the Mil Cumbres, so I was enjoying Luis kill off many of the Oscuros. Turco told the boss (Fermin?, not sure) maybe they should make peace with Enesimo. No way, says the boss. Since Sansone has agreed to deliver Enesimo on a silver platter, I see why he doesn't want or need peace.
Madre's real name is Anselmo.
thanks Hombre!
I started writing down names too, although the English spellings may be different.
mil cumbres
Nemesio Rendón
Luis Rendón 'El Berebere'
Luis' guy Vulture (Buitre)
dark knights
Fermin
Julian the Turk
prison wardens
Leopoldo Borges
Minerva Zambrano
others
Lula Pineda, the human rights lady
Pharisee, the hacker working with Priamo, Deputy DA.
Nemesio was talking about how he raised Fermin and Turco and taught them the business so there must be a story here.
if Roxana ever gets out of that prison she'll be tougher than her brother and probably whip his a**.
Sofia, dressed in an orange prison outfit, poses for the standard mug shots and then makes her way to the area where the beds are. She looks innocent and scared. She sits down on the lower bed of a bunk bed arrangement. The woman on the upper bed jumps down, smiles gleefully at her, and calls her Princesita. Sofia calls in vain for a guard. The woman assures her she just wants to give her a message from a friend: he said to tell you to keep your mouth shut.
Ernesto and Senator Slimey are talking. SS tells him that Sofia could cause them many problems. She knows too much. "I don't want to spend the rest of my life in prison." It's clear that SS thinks she should be killed. Ernesto assures him that there's no need to kill Sofia. "I'll keep her quiet, I promise." Slimey reluctantly agrees to give him one more chance.
A reporter named Barcala has come to see Lady Macbeth--oops, I mean Paula-- at her request. She tells him that Sofia Villavicencio is the owner of the Rancho San Pedro, where all those kidnapped women and girls were found. The reporter is surprised that Paula is telling him this, since she works for the Governor. "Yes," says Paula, "but I'm also a citizen, and I think it's important that people know what his wife has done, what kind of woman she is." Barcala asks whether the Governor is involved. "Absolutely not!" Paula assures him. She then tells the reporter that no one else has the information she has given him. If he does his job well, he could get the major journalism prize. There are just two conditions, she says: 1) Keep the Governor's name clean 2) Tell no one where you got this information.
Eliza gets a phone call from Sofia. "How is Alondra?" Eliza tells her that she's frightened. Sofia tells Eliza it's very important that no one know where Alondra is. "Don't come see me. They'll know where Alondra is; moreover, you're the Eliza that they're looking for." Eliza tries to assure Sofia that Ernesto wouldn't hurt his own daughter. "He wouldn't, but his socios would," replies Sofia.
Joel lies in bed, unable to sleep. He remembers Sofia describing to him how she witnessed his sister's death. He then remembers Marquez vehemently insisting that Sofia killed Joel's sister and his nephew-to-be.
Ernesto comes to see Sofia in prison. Unlike the usual prison visiting scenes, the two of them are alone in a room. He asks her, "Was it worth losing your family? And for a simple sexual caprice (calentura)? She wants to end the conversation and go back to her cell. She calls for a guard, but Ernesto tells her "Call all you want. I paid plenty so we wouldn't be disturbed." He goes on about Joel, and how he felt when he saw her kissing Joel. He starts choking her. "Do you love him?" "Yes, I love him." He tells her that in spite of what she has just confessed, he will forgive her, "for the sake of our family." She scornfully tells him that what he means is that he'll forgive her to save his crumbling political career and his relationship with Paula. He then asks where Alondra is, he wants to take her back with him to Mexico. "No way!" she tells him. Ernesto tells her, "I'm your only option for getting out of here."
Pastrana shows a photo of Alondra to random people on the street. Along comes Eliza with the three kids. Fortunately, Alondra has a hat on and her back is turned to him. Pastrana asks Eliza whether she's seen this girl, her name is Alondra and she's lost. He claims she's his niece. Eliza says no, she hasn't seen her. Karina says there's a girl in her school named Alondra, but she has red hair. They leave, but Pastrana takes photos that show the faces of Karina and Tomas.
Joel talks to the American district attorney involved in Sofia's case. He tells the DA (fiscal) that Sofia should not be extradited to Mexico, because the crime was committed against an American citizen. The DA tells him that there's no proof. [Apparently Sofia has been convicted for what she did at Senator Smiley's, not for Irene's murder.] The DA adds that if the forensic guy who did the autopsy would testify here in the U.S., that would be proof. Otherwise, nothing can be done. Joel tells Patrick that he will go to Mexico and drag Marquez to Los Angeles to testify.
Steve lies in his hospital bed, remembering Eliza. [I think Eliza is likely to wind up with Steve. I doubt the writers would devote so much time to his thinking about Eliza otherwise.] Margot tells Max that the doctors have said that Steve's confusion and amnesia could last for months. She plans to return to Madrid, and to take Steve with her and care for him there. Max tells her that no, he's not keen on moving to New York, New York is Jennifer's idea.
Pastrana sends the photos to Paula and then talks to her on the phone. She recognizes Karina and Tomas from the celebration where Eliza brought baked goods. Paula tells Pastrana to find out where they live.
A representative of the Mexican President comes to see Paula. The President is worried about the scandal involving Ernesto's wife. Paula assures him that Ernesto is not involved. "He's married to Sofia Villavicencio," he replies. "Yes, but he knows nothing," says Paula. The President's man tells her that Ernesto needs to cut himself off from his wife if he has any hope of saving his career. Paula then talks to Ernesto on the phone and tells him the same thing.
Ernesto is clearly unwilling to do this. He tells Paula to find a solution--that's what he pays her for. "Do what you have to do," he tells her.
Sofia calls Joel, and he comes to see her in prison. "You're the only one I can confide it," she tells him. She asks him to protect Alondra. "They're looking for her," she says. "It's not just Ernesto, his socios too are looking for her, and you know what they can do." She gives Joel the address where Alondra is. He seems unwilling, fearing that Sofia is just playing him again.
Andrés and Eliza are talking in Eliza's house. Andrés urges Eliza to turn Alondra over to her father. "If she were an orphan, I'd understand," he says. "But she has a father who can take care of her." He goes on to point out that Ernesto could accuse Eliza of kidnapping Alondra, and Eliza could wind up in prison. Alondra, in tears in an adjacent room, hears the entire conversation.
Jennifer gets excited looking at various places to live in New York. Max is clearly uninterested. He tells her she's not pregnant. She says she is--the doctor confirmed it that morning.
Pastrana has apparently located Eliza's house. As soon as Andrés leaves, Pastrana goes up to the door of the bakery and starts to pick the lock. Suddenly he feels a gun against his head. Joel frisks him and tells him they're going to have a talk.
I'll probably write this every time we see Max on the show---coward, coward, coward, weak, weak, weak!
Juanita, boy you posted the recaps in record time! Thank you for helping us satisfy our addiction.
Isn't it really cool how Joel always shows up just in time to save the day, but for some reason, he is so gullible. Why doesn't it cross his mind that Ernesto and his crowd bought out Martinez? Why would sharpshooters be firing at Sophia (at the border) if she was on their side? BTW that border wall ramp was cool. Do they really do that?
While I like his acting, couldn't they have picked a better looking galán, JMHO.
Why do you guys think Patrick is in collusion with the bad guys? I don't see anything that makes me believe that.
Victoria: Patrick is involved with the Syndicate.
Alondra will likely get sent back to Ernesto in all likelihood. Now that Psstrana has tracked down where Eliza lives.....
Juanita: How far will Jennifer go to keep Max since he told her she's NOT PREGGERS ?
love your recaps Juanita! they are so smooth and informative.
interesting show last night, watching Sofia break out of her isolation and contact her friends, she is not done yet.
and Ernesto (when Gabriel Porras starts doing that head tilt to the side, you know things are going south for his character) he tells Sofia he loves her, and I believe him.
but when he tells Paula to do whatever it takes, I cringe.
so Marquez is missing?
I was assuming Joel had Sofia arrested because of the warrant from the Mexican government for the murder of Irene, but the U.S. prosecutor wasn't given any of the facts on the case an so can't hold her in the U.S., interesting point Juanita about her attack on a U.S. Senator, that would be enough to hold her, but I'm thinking he did not press charges because he doesn't want to face her in a court room.
boo Andres for pushing Eliza to give up Alondra, poor Alondra is traumatized, she knows what those bad men are capable of, and when will she ever see her mother again?
yah Joel for showing up, I'm thinking Pastrana will live to see another day, but maybe he will spill enough to swing Joel back to Sofia, and maybe Joel can pick up a CD or 2 while he is there.
Thanks so much for the fine recap, Juanita! Sofía is being accused of murdering Irene, not stealing SS's stuff, although maybe they'll throw that in as well. Irene was a dual citizen. This is why Joel is pressing for her to be tried in the US. I don't know how it works if you commit the crime in one country, but the victim is a citizen of another. But we can't really expect the telenovela justice system to make sense. I've seen trials where people in the chamber jump up and make long speeches!
Opinions are mixed about whether Patrick is involved with Ernesto and Senator Slimy's dirty dealings. I don't think he is. To me he's just the typical sidekick of the galán who disagrees with him pretty often.
Victoria, I agree that it's very frustrating that Joel has swallowed Paula's framing of Sofía far too easily. Last night I was wondering if he might have been getting a clue. He was remembering Marquez and his kind of desperate insistence on the evidence proving Sofía guilty (burn marks? not sure I remember well, but something about her having been shot at close range).
Another fine performance by Gabriel Porras at the prison. His jealousy and wounded manhood were obvious. He asked what Joel has that he does not. Sofía's responses were perfect. A man with his morals (profiting from trafficking children) does not deserve respect and fidelity. I believe him to have been sincere in offering to take her back and put it all behind them. There's more to this than presenting the perfect family for his political career. He loves her, even though he has casual sex with Paula.
I keep hoping Joel will get a clue, but I just haven't seen it coming anytime soon. Doubt he'll be able to beat it out of Pastrana.
Deb: I see Ernesto taking Alondra back to Mexico for good! He's got connections all over the place.
Joel is still STUPID.
You know Pastrana will go after Eliza soon enough!
Deb, thanks for refreshing my memory. The prosecutor did say something about the murder evidence being weak and that the only thing they had was a video of her coming out of the hotel. So Mexico wants her extradited but the US thinks the case is too weak. The judge didn't seem to want to release her because someone had tried shooting her and was keeping her in custody (safe?) until she was tried. Telenovela justice at its finest - NOT.
novelera, hmm, I took it the other way, Joel wants the prosecutor to make a case for trying Sofia in the U.S., but she was not given the folder that Joel and Patrick saw with all the incriminating evidence (hence Joel wants to find Marquez) and so has nothing to go by, and on the other hand there is no reason to block the extradition, I think Paula's plan is to get Sofia into Mexico as soon as possible and make the whole thing go away.
Thanks, Victoria, for your appreciative and interesting comments. I had to laugh, however, when you thanked me for posting so quickly. As it happened, I was in the middle of writing the recap when suddenly my computer went bonkers. Everything froze, and I spent at least a half hour trying one thing and another to get it to work without closing it down and thus losing everything I had written. At last, I succeeded in getting it more or less restored. What I had been writing seemed to be gone, but it turned out that my text editor, UltraEdit, made a backup in some remote corner of my computer, and although Microsoft claimed the copy was corrupted, UltraEdit could read it, and I was back in business. But that definitely delayed my getting the recap written and posted. It also reminded me that I need to save, save, save, as I write.
You asked why it doesn't occur to Joel that Marquez has been bought. It DID occur to him...he screams "Who bought you? How much did they pay you?" in his confrontation with Marquez. But Marquez is terrified that if he says anything, the baddies will kill him and his family. So he just screams back at Joel that no one had paid him, all the evidence points to Sofia's having killed Irene and her fetus.
I too wish that Joel were somewhat better looking, but hey, looks aren't everything, as we see with coward coward coward Max.
As for the mixed opinions about Patrick, there was some discussion of this on some of the earlier Telemundo pages. You might take a look there. As for me, I'm still undecided about him.
Muchas gracias, deb and novelera, for your thanks and your great comments. I'm still confused about why Sofia is in prison. Since the US district attorney said they can't convict her of Irene's death without evidence, I assumed that she was convicted of some other crime, and the one that came to mind was her robbing from Senator Slimy and throwing him down the stairs. But deb, you're quite right, he would definitely not be willing to testify in court and thus wouldn't have pressed charges. So then why is Sofia in prison? Has she simply been thrown into a U.S. prison on no evidence? Is that what they're doing for her protection? Who authorized/requested that? Arrgh, I'm afraid my brain is fried. :-(
Bella

Juanita, I believe Mexico has a warrant for Sofia's arrest for the murder of Irene (I think this was first mentioned when Marquez showed Joel the evidence) and so has requested Sofia be apprehended and returned to Mexico.
the U.S. does not have enough evidence to try Sofia in the U.S. for any crime, and so are complying with the extradition request.
unless Joel can come up with something.

Halimacandy, Ernesto is beneath contempt for profiting from this ghastly selling of little girls, but I don't think he is having sex with any of them. Very early in the telenovela, there was a recording on Ernesto's phone in which his friend who's now in jail (forget his name) told him the botellitas were here and did he want to "taste the merchandise". Ernesto basically said he didn't roll that way and preferred bourbon to tequila.
deb, many thanks for your very clear explanation. I'm not sure why my brain refused to process this earlier. Then again, if I had a dollar for each thing my brain refused to process, I'd be a very rich woman! :-)
Muchas gracias otra vez.
Bella: I only see STUPID Joel finding out the new watch has a GPS tracker when it's too little, too late after more people get WHACKED.
Juanita: Looks like Ernesto will get Alondra back forever & she'll be stuck in the Governor's Mansion forever.
Novelera: Ernesto seems hell-bent on upping the ante since he badly wants to be in Los Pinos so bad. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Sofia getting tortured violently down the road.
HALIMACANDY: Paula is just taking a page out of the Doug Stamper Playbook.
Alondro getting returned to the Governor.
For a telenovela, this is one of the most unpredictable ones I've seen. So who knows what lies ahead?!
Bella
Thank you Juanita for the recap and everyone for their insights.
I think the US judge also mentioned that Sofia was a flight risk and that might be another reason she's being held until a decision is made on her extradition/trial.
Jennifer says (wishfully?) that she's pregnant. Max seems to doubt it and I'm not sure I believe it either. She's been drinking alcohol, too! At least Max should realize another child is part of her plan to possess him. He can prevent it, if it hasn't happened already.
Here is an idea that is way, way out there: what if Jennifer in desperation resorts to faking a pregnancy? She finds out Eliza is pregnant and somehow kidnaps the baby passing it off as hers. I was wondering about the purpose of Eliza's pregnancy in the story line. Would they go there?
dondi356
dondi356, thanks for your thanks and for your comment about Sofia being seen as a possible flight risk.
Interesting idea about Jennifer. I kinda doubt that it will happen, not because it's bizarre (this is a telenovela, after all! :-) ) but because the plot is already pretty complicated, AND because there would be no way for Jennifer to fake the later months of pregnancy, certainly not to someone she's living with. And so with no obvious signs of advanced pregnancy, she suddenly comes home with a baby?? And if she did, I bet Max would insist on a DNA test to test for both parents.
But hold on to that plot line. It's likely to find its way into a different novela!
Juanita: I'm betting Jennifer will fake the pregnancy & might steal someone's baby (possibly Eliza's).
Thanks Juanita. Interesting comments by all.
Max...He should leave CA and leave a letter for Eliza explaining what happened...and that he has now put Jennifer's house in Her name. In fact, moving JENNIFER far away is an excellent idea.
I sure home to ten-year jump doesn't involve either woman being separated from a child (unless Alondra is with Eliza). If I recall correctly, that's how Enemigo Intimo started.
If there isn't enough evidence to try Sofia in the US, what's the likelihood she can be tried in Mexico? They did only use Joel just to locate her, and they tried to kill her before she could make it to the police station. So maybe the evidence never warranted an arrest...except their fool (Joel) fell for their bogus evidence and went with it.
Did Irene want to be cremated? Why didn't Joel claim the body and get a 2nd autopsy?
Bella, you're right about Joel and Pastrana being tracked by the watch. I look forward to the day he discards it (like Will Smith in 'Enemy of the State'). Joel won't kill him though, and he's invaluable to Paula, so he'll continue to hunt down Eliza and family? Unfortunately Pastrana has now seen Andres (another commenter thought he'd die or be threatened). Since this telenovela is part narco-style (shootings, murders, torture, female child torture, etc), who knows how many good guys will be lost.
Spanish Student
Spanish Student: I'm pretty sure Irene was BURIED based on the fresh dirt on her gravesite at the cemetery.
It looks like somewhere in San Antonio.
Steve, Thanks. I forgot that part. Did the writers wait until after he buried Irene to introduce doubts about her death? Still not too late for a 2nd autopsy...according to CSI (lol).
Spanish Student
Dondi356, many years ago I saw a novela entitled Mariana de la Noche in which the actress who is now the first lady of Mexico played the antagonist to Alejandra Barros in the title role. In her role as Marcia Angélica Rivera indeed faked a pregnancy and stole Mariana's baby. She wore an increasing larger padded stomach. This would not work, of course, if the man the baddie is trying to trap is currently sleeping with her.
in think it was in "El fantasma de Elena" that Ana Layevska went full term using pads, and as the leading lady's baby was still born, not, she even ended up with a baby.
this show was so crazy they had to tone it down a bit.
Thanks, Deb for the new names.
I don't see why only Roxana got sent to the hole, when the other girl basically started the fight. I can't wait for Bauser to get payback, but we'll probably have to wait a long time.
There's a new guy, Antonio, some sort of national security advisor, and Alejandro asks him for a green light in investigating Priamo. Don't know if Antonio said okay.
Since Alejandro and company reached a dead end in finding the kidnapped girl (even after he almost drills a hole in the head of one of the guys he arrests), Trevor (the American cop) says there's a guy in the prison (Orejas) whose church was a front for human trafficking. So therefore he MUST know exactly who has the girl. This would be a longshot except for the fact that in a telenovela, the main characters know everything.
Meanwhile, Roxana wants some protection, so she tries to befriend Puma. She finds that Puma hasn't seen her Mom in years, so when Lula, the Human Rights Lady visits to see if Roxie will file a complaint against someone (such as Alejandro), Rox says first find Puma's Mom and set up a visit. I think that Lula has found her, but since Roxana's in the hole, this will have to wait.
Madre is not too happy with Tilapia (who had another conjugal night with Roxana). The cops ask Tilapia if he's falling in love with Roxana, and he lies "no way!".
Paula is one cold broad...totally corrupt. She could run things if she wanted but prefers manipulating men from behind the scenes.
Looking forward to your recap, deb.
Spanish Student
Pastrana gets the jump on Joel and gets away, not quite, Joel turns things around and gets the better of him, and the cuffs on, Pastrana says interpol can't arrest him, Joel makes a citizen arrest.
Alondra doesn't want to return to her dad, Eliza will treat her as her own, and tells Andres the same.
Paula tells the Senator Eliza is alive in LA, he tells her Sofi has asked to see the FBI.
Ernesto is living in a bottle, swears to an imaginary Sofia, he will forgive her.
Joel can't get a hold of Marquez, what's this, Pastrana who has the same lawyer as Sofia is being released, he is a fishmonger, was in San Francisco having tests when Sofia attacked, but Joel saw him, yes but you were the only one, and this is outside of our jurisdiction.
(hmm, Joel remembers Pastrana from the attack at the border, but not from the governors mansion, maybe because he was knocked out, duh)
puppet master Paula meets with Sofia, she knows about Eliza and the house, she knows a couple of pigs that like skinny young girls, on the other hand why would I hurt the girls if their safety will keep you quiet, this gets Sofia's attention, and she throws in not killing Joel as well, Paula will tell her what to tell the police, and she wants the CD.
the prosecutor lady ?? and Richard Garcia from the FBI meet with Sofia and her lawyer, Joel deals himself in, hmm, her lawyer makes the usual noises about not talking, etc, she fires him, and confesses to killing Irene, the gun and Irene's laptop are buried at her ranch, 30 meters north of the house, she is the leader, Ernesto didn't know, she has all the right answers, Joel is spinning (over the past few shows we've seen the logic that Sofia is guilty seep into Joel, but deep down inside he knows the truth, and the turmoil is written all over him)
later we see him telling Patrick Sofia IS guilty (are you trying to convince yourself) with Patrick wondering if all is as it seems, what? they get a search warrant to look for the gun, yup, right where she said.
Paula swings by to see Ernesto, tries to clean him up and send him back home, yes, yes Sofia will go to jail but you know we can trim it down to 15 years, and time flies, she tells him.
Sofia calls Eliza for one last favor, and we see Eliza putting the CD in a mailbox, shortly recovered by Pastrana.
Steve is recovering and remembers his wife now, well everything after the surgery, why did we separate he asks, she tells of how their love ran out, her decision to move, but now he will go back to Madrid with her to recover with the help of his son.
Joel visits Sofia at the jail, ok, just between the two of us, tell me the real truth, she doesn't, tells him to move on.
Tomas and Karina feel bad for Alondra, when will Sofia return, days, months, nope, years, she has them promise to treat Alo as their sister.
Max comes to see Steve where he learns of his half-sister, why hasn't she come to see me he asks, and Max tells the story of her dad cheating with your mom who died when you were a teen,
Steve tells of a dream, a beautiful girl, her name is Eliza, she feels so real. (has Eliza been there since the surgery?)
Max's phone rings, Jen is in pain, Max runs, and back home from the doc's, it's your fault Max that I lost the baby. (you'd think Max would have to take out his ear plugs to hear these things).
Paula swings by the Senator's, hands him the CD and they get chummy, he wants her to get Sofia close to him so he can take care of it for good, she says we'll let the law take it's course, a very severe course, they will use the press to discredit her, the Beauty Queen Beast, and joke over other names.
later we see the Mexican press is persecuting Sofia, and we see a copy of an open letter from Sofia admitting her guilt and asking forgiveness, it's real, see her signature.
is all hope lost?
and Ernesto's speech, what a poor guy to be so betrayed, like all of you, and we see Max hanging afar watching Eliza, and later still, looks like Ernesto has a wam, bang, thank you mam, with Paula between drinks, or maybe it was a flop.
hmm, how long before Paula doesn't need him anymore?
Terrific recap, deb! Many thanks. I loved your "puppet-master Paula." Perfect!
Interesting switch in roles between Joel and Patrick. Now it's Joel claiming Sofia is guilty and Patrick sensing that something isn't right. But I agree with you that no matter how many times Joel says or thinks that Sofia is guilty, deep down he believes she's innocent.
I noticed a couple of things during Paula's meeting with Cummings. One is that he asks her to come work for him. She turns him down, saying that Ernesto needs her, but she does say she'd be happy to be of help to the Senator for whatever. The look on Cummings face when she says this, and a little of his body language, made me think perhaps he had something very immediate in mind. It didn't happen, but....
Also, we're supposed to believe that the Senator is an American and a native English speaker, but when he talked (in English) about Sofia requesting an interview with FBI agents, he pronounced "agents" as "ahgents."
Ernesto's drunken state and the unhappy look on his face and Paula's when they were getting it on near the end of the episode suggests to me that yes, it was a flop.
At the end of the episode, it looked to me as if Jennifer and Charlie (and perhaps Max) were moving. The furniture was covered over and I think I saw suitcases. I say "perhaps Max" because we see Jennifer and Charlie leave, but Max is just standing in the room with the covered-over furniture, not going out the door with his wife and son. I suspect he will go, and the writers are just trying to indicate his reluctance, but his delay (if that's what it was) caught my eye.
I wonder if we are going to get a 10 year jump now.
Bella
Bella: I'm NOT shocked Pastrana took the CD.
Very stupid of Eliza!
Spanish Student: Sofia will be in prison forever & ever.
Juanita: I hope Eliza's kids hate Max if he returns.
Deb: Just sit back & get used to seeing the EVIL Alliance keep winning non-stop.
I wouldn't be shocked if Eliza's Mommy gets whacked.
Deb, great recap. Yes, that was the definition of a 'wam, bam, thank you mam' moment. Paula doesn't mind being used like a sex toy and discarded like trash. Made me wonder if she has a backstory. Something must explain her lack of empathy for the abused girls.
Spanish Student
Jennifer's gone? Great. Was afraid Steve would try to amend things and side fall for her victim act. But if Jen is gone and Steve is fantasizing about Eliza, Max may finally do something (or they'll run into each other at the hospital). I still say he should give Jennifer's home to Eliza.
I'm curious about how Andres' role will develop. The physical similarity to the actor from "el señor de los cielos" makes me wonder if he's really a saint.
Spanish Student
Spanish Student: Paula is the female version of Doug Stamper & is super EVIL.
More evil than OJ Braulio was in "La Dona".
Spanish Student: I'm wondering about Andres backstory as well.
Deb: I expect the CD to be destroyed & we'll NEVER hear about this ever AGAIN.
Thanks so much, deb, I love your humorous writing style. You always get the things I missed!
Anyone know whose mailbox Eliza put that disc in? Ah, telenovela baddies! They're invincible until the last week of the show. Of course Pastrana is "Juanie on the spot" when Eliza puts that disc in a mailbox.
Joel's behavior is a bit illogical. He accused her of being involved in the kidnapping and having orchestrated the rescue to divert attention from herself. When she says the same thing, he appears not to believe her in the interview room. I suppose where he began to doubt her was when she completely cleared Ernesto.
I think Ernesto may be shown as impotent because of losing Sofía. Paula might be better off with the now disabled Senator Slimy. I got the impression he's not disabled in that area.
Sigh, it sure looks like Sofía will be in prison for the whole time of the 10-year jump. I don't like this one bit. They will REALLY irritate me if Alondra loses faith in her mother.
Is it mean of me to be so happy Jennifer lost her "trap Max" baby?
Steve stop bad mouthing,Momma Carmen for goodness sakes!!
..let me get this straight... Paula visits Sofia, has any body EXCEPT LA PAPA. not visit and mess with Sofia..
OMG!!!
Sofia to plead guilty to child traffikk, god you are naming yourself as a peadeophile and molestor ..!!
Paula is NOT LADY MACBETH
LADY MACBETH was a clean honest killer, not a child rapist and chicken hawk pimp..
SPECIAL PLACE IN HELL FOR YOUR PAULA
YES !!...CLOSER TO DOUG STAMPER...
HUBBY IS A DRUNKEN BUM, BUT HE STILL LOVES SOFIA.. BUT MEANWHILE... hitting.. paula's funky stuff??!! WTF!! YUCK..
DOES SHE HAVE FEELING FORHIM?!! OR WHAT??!
I like the telenovelas best when the good guys have some wins along the way.
Bella
thanks so much all!
Juanita, wow, I missed the part at the end where it looks like Max and family are moving out.
puppet master was the term in the english captions Paula used to describe herself when Sofia got all uppity, she is the one that pulls the strings.
hmm, there has never been any mention of the flash drive.
Bella, why would Sofia trust the FBI, the Senator offered to let her talk to them, and how long would it be before they started protecting Alondra, and what about Eliza and her kids?
Spanish Student, you could say that Paula is not satisfied with the governor's performance, I'm wondering if Andres might get bumped (poor Mari Linda) and be replaced by Steve.
novelera, it is always nice to hear a compliment from someone that is so good at doing this.
Joel is certain that Sofia is guilty, but I don't think he is going to take her telling him so.
PASTRANA HAS MORE LIVES THAN A DARN CAT..HE get busted than released again.. THEN he follows ELIZA.. AND COPS THE DISC??!!!
OR DOES HE!! ANY WAYS...
PAULA IS SCARED OFTHE IRRATE CROWDS CALLING FOR BLOOD AND SHE WANTS TO SALVAGE THE GOV CAREER
WHAT PLANET is she on...??
but stupid and beaten down /MS. SOFIA, what posessed you to confess to child pimping??!! you got to learn to fight... and fast..
YEARS LATER.. PLEASE.. REALLY..IS THIS A I -am -GETTING -MY-REVENGE -YEARS -LATER novella....???
...... who ever commented abt the [SEXUAL].. NONPERFORMANCE OF THE GOV??!! YOU ARE... MOST LIKELY RIGHT.. IT WAS OVER TOO QUICKLY!! PAULA .. YOUR SEXUAL spell is over!!
/SENATOR.. AND PAULA WHATS BORGIA AND MACHIVELL... PLAN IS NEXT...
JOEL.. GET WITH IT??
ELIZA GET A GUN..??!!
Deb, to Paula, her pleasure is 2nd in priority to Ernesto's.. His impotence means she can't please (control) him.
Looks like quite a few are sensing a dark future for Andres.
So what happens with the initial CIA investigation by Joel and Patrick? Surely Sofia couldn't have confessed to every crime they were investigating.
Spanish Student
ANON'THANKS ,
THIS SHOW IS BURING UP PLOTZINF QUICKY, A ALOT OF PLAYERS.. I THINK THE PERSON WHO SAID, YEARS WILL JUMP IN ADVANCE!!!
PATRICK AND JOEL... PATRICK IS SUSPECT...
Since no one else has offered to do a recap tonight, I'll do one. It will probably be short, but that will give everyone a chance to add to it.
Oops, I see we may soon move to the 2nd Telemundo page. I'll repost this message there.
