Papa a Toda Madre #56 4.5.18: How to Lose (Girl)friends and Fire People

Or Everyone Breaks a Promise

Flor demands Neron stop following her because she’s going to give him the cold shoulder after all he did with Roberto, especially because he didn’t think she’d survive on her own, if he were to pass away. She storms off as Neron watches.

Tono and Veronica go to Ernesto’s doctor. Tono doesn’t want to give his child medicine and suggests they try other methods. After a moment, he relents and agrees to give his child medicine, despite his reservations. The doctor asks them to trust him and then steps outside to answer a call. Once alone with Tono, Veronica begs him to please put their issues aside and focus on their children. Tono promises to make sure Ernesto takes all his pills and Veronica nods. She promises to be very mindful though and make sure he is doing what he promised.

Later, Tono goes to the pharmacy and gets the prescription filled. The pharmacist gives him a few bottles of pills but Tono thinks they’re too many for a small child. He opens one bottle, takes some pills out, and asks the pharmacists if he has any small, white mints. The pharmacist shows him a pack and Tono smiles as he shakes it.

That night, Mauricio sits down in the gazebo to call Jorge. He tells him that he hasn’t found any clues about Maria’s whereabouts and neither has Jorge but they are not discouraged. Jorge thinks everything is strange though, as she should’ve been in a hospital or jail, if Fabian was telling the truth, but Mauricio surmises that it must be a lie. Their final hope is that Rodrigo finds Juan Perez.

At Fabian’s, Fabian and Falcon tell Noel that Logatoys is finally his but Noel is still not happy. He chides Fabian for taking so long to give him back what is rightfully his and then demands Fabian and Falcon sink and disband the company. Fabian is shocked, as he doesn’t want to lose what took him so much trouble to get, but Noel wants Logatoys destroyed, as it represents all Bosco took away from him. He demands Fabian do as he’s told and that’s that. Fabian is not too happy.

At Mauricio’s, he eats dinner with Renee and Anifer and wonders what he will do with all his free time; he suggests they learn a new hobby or skill but the girls want him to help them cook and clean. Either way, Anifer would prefer he hadn’t sold the company but accepts that he must know what he’s doing. Mauricio nods and thanks her for her vote of confidence. Anifer then worries about what they will do for money and to live but Mauricio and Renee assure her that everything will be okay and she won’t want for nothing. Renee then asks her to get ready for bed and Mauricio promises to read her a story. Once alone with Mauricio, Renee reveals that she knows he’s looking for Juan Perez and assumes that’s why he’s been so weird. Mauricio thinks Rodrigo is a big mouth, and he was actually looking for an old classmate, but Renee doesn’t believe his story. She does respect his privacy but wonders why Mauricio won’t trust her. Mauricio assures her that they have to respect each other’s spaces, especially since Renee didn’t tell him about her ovum donation, and Renee finally let’s the subject drop. She does wonder why Mauricio is so interested in her ovum and he admits that he’s been thinking about the future and about any future children they may have together, after Anifer. Renee smiles but is saved by the bell as Rodrigo knocks on the door. He’s there to talk to Mauricio for a moment and they both step outside as Renee laughs at Mauricio’s blatant lie.

Outside, Rodrigo apologizes for making the Juan Perez situation worse but Mauricio tells him not to worry. Rodrigo does want to know why Mauricio wants to find Juan so bad and he explains that he knew Maria and wants to ask him some questions. Rodrigo nods and then hands him a folder with all the details, including Juan’s exact location. Mauricio thanks him wholeheartedly.

The next day, Renee goes to see Rafael and tells him what happened with Juan and Mauricio. She is sad that Mauricio doesn’t trust her and Rafael suggests they invite him to go to the ovum donation at the hospital, in the essence of pure transparency. Renee explains that he went to drop off Anifer and can’t make it. After a moment, she asks to tell him how the ovum donation will go. Rafael explains that they will run tests on her, check out her genes and do a psychological test. Renee nods and then asks if there will be paperwork as well to make sure there are no hassles later on with the baby. Rafael nods but tells her the hospital will explains things better and ushers her out the door.

Veronica ushers the kids out the door as Esperanza helps. Veronica tells Ernesto to go to Tono, so he can get his medicine, and Ernesto wonders why he needs medicine if he’s not sick. Tono explains that it’s special vitamins, just for him, and hands him the pills as Veronica nods behind them.

At the hospital, a nurse gives Renee some paperwork and explains that, should the ovum be fertilized, she will have no parental rights over the baby. She also notes that this case is special, as the donators are usually anonymous. Renee nods and looks over the paperwork as Rafael hopes Rodrigo will get there soon. After a moment, Renee asks about more details regarding the donation and the nurse reiterates that neither she nor the surrogate mother will have any rights to the fetus after fertilization. She then leaves to handle something as Renee continues to look over the paperwork. Rafael knows she’s scared but promises everything will go by fast, as the surgery is not that long, but Renee admits that the problem is something else. She grabs Rafael’s hand and apologizes because she can’t donate her ovum. Rafael is shocked and sighs deeply. Renee admits that she hadn’t thought of the consequences until now but Rafael though she had, online and researched everything before agreeing to do it. Renee explains that she won’t have rights over a child that is hers, technically, and they are friends so things are bound to get awkward. In the end, she can’t get over the fact that she will have a child in the world but Rafael proposes that he and Rodrigo disappear as soon as the baby is born and live their lives while she goes to do her masters. Renee apologizes again but no one is going to force her to do something that she doesn’t want to. Rafael is beside himself and doesn’t know what he was thinking, asking a woman who left her fiancée at the alter to help them. Renee promises to forget he said that and hopes he realizes she didn’t this out of spite. After a moment, she leaves Rafael to his thoughts.

Juan Perez is in a hotel when Mauricio knocks on the door, pretending to be housekeeping. Juan goes to answer and Mauricio grabs him by the collar and demands to know where Maria is. Juan takes out a knife and Mauricio thinks he might’ve overstepped his bounds. Juan slithers his knife on Mauricio’s cheek and Mauricio looks like he’s stopped breathing.

Flor serves Neron his breakfast at home but doesn’t say one word. He can’t believe she won’t talk to him and then admits that his back hurts because he slept on the couch. He apologizes for doing what he did but Flor is tired of his nonsense and tells him that she has decided to leave the house. She walks away then as Neron wonders how he can fix things.

Rodrigo arrives, gun in hand, and demand Juan drop his weapon. Juan obliges and Rodrigo puts cuffs on him as Mauricio asks him about Maria’s true location. Juan reveals that she’s in a very bad Guatemalan jail and doubts she will get out soon. Mauricio wants more details but Juan tells him that they have nothing on him and can’t force him to say anything else. Rodrigo thinks they can charge him with plenty but Mauricio asks him to let Juan go. He does and Juan runs out of the hotel room faster than the roadrunner.

Flor reiterates that she’s leaving with Milady but Neron stands in front of the door and blocks her way. He thinks she’s only threatening to leave so he realizes she can do things on her own but Flor explains that he doesn’t know how to be a couple and his lack of trust is hurtful. Neron begs her to stay, as he loves her and Milady, but Flor has made her decision. She knows he loves Milady but he won’t let him educate her in his sexiest ways. He stands aside and asks if she’s really leaving, with tears in his eyes. Flor reminds him that they are in this situation because of him, so he shouldn’t play the victim, before grabbing her suitcase and leaving. Once alone, Neron begins to cry freely, kicking himself for being so stupid.

Rodrigo is confused, as Maria doesn’t seem like the type of girl Mauricio would date, let alone have a child with, but Mauricio explains that he had a femme fatale phase. Either way, he has to have friends everywhere, including hell, and he has since gotten over that phase and loves Renee now. Rodrigo nods and wonders how Maria pulled off her death. Mauricio assumes Juan helped her so no one could know she was in jail but their conversation is interrupted by a phone call from Rafael, who tells Rodrigo what happened with Renee. Mauricio overhears but doesn’t seem too broken up about it.

From her office, Veronica calls Tono to tell him that she checked with the school and Ernesto is fine, no side effects to the pills or changes in behavior. Tono thinks they should’ve checked that before giving him the pills but Veronica can’t believe he’s being this way, again. Tono thinks that she used to like how he was but Veronica reminds him they aren’t talking about themselves, they are talking about Ernesto. Tono wants to drop it, but thinks they have ruined their children with their separation, and suggests he move back, as part of his plan to make things better for the children. Veronica disagrees, as he’s not sleeping in her bed and there’s no room on the couch, and Tono relents as he has things to do for his new boss. Veronica hopes his new boss doesn’t fire him and Tono asks her to tell Esperanza to pick up the kids. Veronica will pick them up herself and hangs up. After a moment, Tono takes out the bottle with the real pills and tells himself that he won’t give them to Ernesto.

Rodrigo finds Rafael at the hospital, and asks him to be calm, but Rafael is beside himself because they are back to square one. Rodrigo reminds him that he didn’t think it would be easy but Rafael wonders if he even wants to have kids. Rodrigo reiterates he does and Rafael continues to stress about cost and finding another donor. Rodrigo promises to be with him every step of the way and they hug.

Jorge meets with Mauricio, who tells him he told Rodrigo that he used to like dangerous women, in a café to discuss how to continue their investigation. Jorge thinks Rodrigo is too close, and may impede their investigation, but there was nothing Mauricio could do as Rodrigo had followed him to the hotel. Jorge asks if Mauricio will go find Maria in Guatemala but Mauricio wonders what type of mother would leave her child like that. Either way, no good can come of him finding Maria, especially because Anifer is safe and sound at his side. Jorge prefers to find out the truth, to see if Fabian lied or not, but Mauricio doesn’t want to fly to Guatemala or ask Fabian so he hopes there is an alternative. (I don’t if it’s stress eating of some sort BT Mauricio all put dumped the whole sugar bottle into his coffee during this conversation).

Renee meets with Wilma and explains that she got a new company to cover the costs of her master’s and hopes it works out. Renee still has her house’s title pending as well as the sale, if Rafael and Rodrigo want to even buy it now, but Wilma has faith it will all work out. Renee hopes so, as it’s been her dream to do her master’s since she was in elementary, but Wilma warns her that she will barely have time for herself, let alone a relationship. Renee considers this.

At Logatoys, Jorge tells Fabian that he was busy with some things but Fabian reminds him that he’s the boss. Also, he’s fired, and can go find Tono as well and take him with him because he’s also fired. Jorge is shocked, as they had come to a different agreement, but Fabian can care less and states that Neron is also fired. Jorge reminds Fabian and Falcon that they agreed with Mauricio to keep things as they were but Fabian is not comfortable having Mauricio’s neighbors there so all three are fired. Falcon then ushers Jorge out the door and Falcon wonders if this is the start of Fabian’s plan to destroy Logatoys. Fabian shakes his head, as Logatoys is also his, and he won’t follow his father’s plans.

At the shop, Pablo brings Neron some lunch but Neron is depressed. Pablo thinks Flor will come around soon enough but Neron thinks this fight is more serious than the others. Pablo chides Neron for doing what he did but Neron asks him to reprimanding him as he knows he messed up. He also doesn’t think Roberto is that great a prospect either way, as he doesn’t know English, and Pablo thinks he could’ve helped him. When Neron asks if he still wants to go to the US, Pablo nods, as Neron gets a call from Jorge, who reveals that he’s fired (again). Neron is shocked.

At Mauricio’s, Mauricio drinks a tea with Renee, who presses him about where he’s been, but Mauricio is silent. He does want to know why she’s so indecisive about the ovum donation but Renee asks him to please drop it. Mauricio obliges but wonders why she’s so scared. Renee admits that she hasn’t really thought about it but would like to have kids, under the right circumstances. Mauricio nods again and then asks about the title trial and Renee can’t believe he’s trying to redirect the conversation. Mauricio begins to argue but Renee asks him to be quiet and explains that it’s going good before asking if Fabian has any family. Mauricio shakes his head but wants to know why Renee is asking. Renee tells him she has her secrets too but is saved by the bell when Tono knocks. He looks at Mauricio, and growls, before screaming that he’s been fired (twice!) from Logatoys. Mauricio is surprised.

Outside, Jorge arrives home and receives a call from Kika but doesn’t answer immediately. In fact, he seems stressed about her call, but decides to answer. Kika wonders how many missed calls he has and wonders if there is anything going on she needs to know about. Jorge tells her no and Kika explains that she arrived that morning and is living the life of a true businesswoman. Jorge is happy to hear it and Kika then asks if she can help her with some Mexican laws about partnerships, etc. but Jorge doesn’t think it’s appropriate. Kika insists and makes a day to see him in her suite tomorrow before hanging up. Jorge then receives a text and looks at it, surprised.

Renee brings Tono and Mauricio a tea and leaves as Mauricio explains that Fabian promised to keep them, since he need people with experience, but Tono repeats that he went back on his word and fired them. Just then, Jorge arrives and sits down with them as Tono complains that Mauricio has money from the sale of Logatoys and they have nothing. Jorge tells him that Mauricio doesn’t have that much money but Tono thinks he grew the company, just to sell it and continue his party lifestyle. Mauricio is shocked they still think of him this way but tells them that he has an idea that he can finally launch.

Renee meets up with Veronica on her way to pick Anifer, happy to see her friend after so long. They catch up and Veronica admits that she and Tono are still on the outs and all they do when they see each other is fight; she thinks there is no way back from their breakup. Veronica then asks about Renee’s relationship with Mauricio but they can’t say ore as the kids come out of school then, screaming. They hug them as the teacher comes out and asks Veronica if Tono can train the kids for the annual soccer game this year. Veronica promises to ask and the teacher leaves as Veronica offers Renee and Anifer a ride. They accept and go on their way.

Neron finally arrives at Mauricio’s but he is in no mood to discuss such depressing affairs. He tries to leave but Mauricio holds him back as they have a plan to make things better in the future. Tono is doubtful but Jorge asks them to give Mauricio a chance. Mauricio announces that he’s been thinking about this idea for a while and reveals that they should launch a new company but they are all doubtful that it will be a success. Tono decides to leave, as does Neron, but Mauricio holds them back as they will all work together, at the same level, to grow the company. They still leave and Mauricio thanks Jorge for staying and supporting him. Jorge explains that he doesn’t, as his idea sounds too much like communism , but he stayed because he has news about Maria because he spoke to the Guatemalan embassy. Mauricio chides Jorge for not telling him sooner, as this is very important information…

Mr. AAA, excellent and timely recap as always, thank you!

So Noe wants to just destroy the company because he wants the name obliterated from earth, wow! He must have several screws loose. Now when Fakian told him that they may as well have burned it down like when he was a kid, my initial thought was that Fakian DID cause that fire several years ago...but now I am second guessing myself; did anyone else get that impression...about Fakian starting the fire.

I hate to see Flor leave Neron, but I totally agree with her rationale. I just wonder where she is going to...

Tonto switching the pills is something I would expect him to do. I don’t agree with how he is avoiding giving Neto so many pills, but I would have the same concern he has about the amount of pills prescribed.

From Vero’s attitude, it seems that this marriage is doomed. They haven’t even agreed on a divorce and she is already refusing to call Tonto her husband when she told the teacher she would tell ‘the father of the children’ about the soccer training...more points lost for Vero!

We saw the signs that Renee was going to back out of donating an egg. Though I’m glad she backed out, I can understand Rafa’s anger and frustration. When she first agreed, she told them she had thought about it ALOT...and she has been having second thoughts all along, so why wait till the very day of the procedure to back down. This is just another impulsive decision for Renee...points lost...

More tomorrow...

Thanks, Lfredo, for another amazing recap. I am always grateful for your dedication , effort, and time.

The argument over giving medication for ADD to a child is realistic. Adults do disagree on this point in real life.

Yawn. Later.

Coffee.

Thank you for your recap, Alfredo!

Not surprising that Toño is giving Nesto a placebo. This whole scheme could end up hurting Nesto. I kept hoping Toño would take those pills and --voila!-- his own brain would start working properly. The biggest jar was Omega-3s, so not really a medication.

So Falcon is part of the plot to destroy LogaToys. And Fakian wants to keep it for himself. Stay tuned....must see TV.

I wanted to hug Jorge when Mau asked what he thought of his new business idea and Jorge said 'eh, not much,'. I've got to give the guy credit for his brutal honesty. Seems that's the only honesty he has shown lately.

I'm enjoying my seat at the Flor table on the patio. She has had enough. No martyr/victim mentality for her!

MIlady looked enormous. How old is she supposed to be, after all the despuesing©? Either that kid is 15 months old or Flor is a size '0' thus making any baby she holds look humongous.

Laughing about the comments from last night that I just saw this morning. "chopped like a salad" was a riot, Diana. Univision does get brutal to squeeze in extra ads.

"Juan runs out of the hotel room faster than the roadrunner."

Great description Alfredo, and what a cliffhanger at the end! One of the things these Televisa writers do very well is throw in an "oh no!" for the last scene. Keeps us coming back for more.

Sorry that Toño is using subterfuge on the pills, but like Susanlynn, I'm conservative on medication. Our youngest was ADD and we used behavioral training with a professional rather than the Ritalin type drugs docs prescribe.

Sorry about Rafa's disappointment but completely understand Renee's reservations. I knew two gals who gave up their college-conceived babies for adoption. One had no interest in what happened to the child. The other never got over yearning for connection. And fortunately was able to know about how her life had turned out once the girl was old enough to look for her birth parents. Biology is powerful in most of us, I think. Mother Nature did not intend for us to be indifferent to our offspring.

Thanks as always Alfredo. You're a champ.

From the previous episode in the clouds to yesterday’s plummet to earth. Ugh.

Alfredo, thank you for relating all the events, just about all - dreadful. Your recap was fantastic, as always.

“Noel wants Logatoys destroyed, as it represents all Bosco took away from him”. OK. One odious mystery solved.

“Rafael suggests they invite him to go to the ovum donation at the hospital, in the essence of pure transparency”. Sure. That’s a great idea, Sigh. RgvChick, I read your comments on this with great interest. I understand and enjoyed reading (as I do with every comment you make) your viewpoint but my perspective is slightly different. I felt Rafael was clearly pushing Renee. I thought it painfully transparent he was putting his wants clearly above hers. After hearing everything said to her, I think the staunchest donor might have rethought the decision. ”Rafael is beside himself and doesn’t know what he was thinking, asking a woman who left her fiancée at the altar to help them”. That was beneath him. Ack.

"Biology is powerful in most of us, I think. Mother Nature did not intend for us to be indifferent to our offspring". Judy, that was truly powerful and I totally agree...

Susanlynn, yes, I know of several couples who were in the same situation as Tono and Vero, both disagreeing on the course as to whether or not to medicate. One opted to, the other didn't. While I agree with Tono (at least to see if progress is possible without it), he was so wrong. This could really have consequences. Bad ones.

“Juan takes out a knife and Mauricio thinks he might’ve overstepped his bounds”. Geez, was he expecting cake and balloons? Sometimes Mau is still clueless, isn’t he?
“Once alone, Neron begins to cry freely, kicking himself for being so stupid”. I was a bit surprised Flor actually left. I expected Neron to be in a “deep freeze” but he’s been totally frozen out. I have confidence these two will work it out. But as you wisely posed the question RgvChick, where will she go? Does she have any family we know of??

"MIlady looked enormous. How old is she supposed to be, after all the despuesing©? Either that kid is 15 months old or Flor is a size '0' thus making any baby she holds look humongous". doris, that needed to be re-read. Priceless.

And what horrible fate has befallen Ani's mother?

I don't know why I kept thinking about who texted Jorge after he spoke with Kika. I had the wierd feeing it might be Dulce. Speculation, not spoiler. She's fairly high on the credits so it's likelly she will surface.

Alfredo, thank you!

Diana

Diana - I always reading your comments. The TV screen certainly did not disclose who texted Jorge, another cliffhanger of sorts.

"Univision does get brutal to squeeze in extra ads.". Our local Uni or Telemundo provider squeezes in even more ads. I forget which telenovela and network I was watching during the last year or two, bur every single recap here on Caray!, by every recapper, had a scene I never saw, usually when we came back from commercials. Argh! 🙄🙄🙄

Thank you, Alfredo. The recap was excellent as usual.

What advice from her counselor that Renée wouldn’t have time for a relationship while in graduate school. What world is she living in?

doris, I am at the Flor table with you. She is gutsy and Nerón is paying much more than he ever imagined. That marriage will be much stronger if she returns.

RgvChick, I agree that it was no surprise that Renée came to the conclusion she did after actually thinking about it for a while. As you mentioned before, she is very impulsive. Maybe this experience will slow her down in her decision making/commitment processes. I am sure it will all blow over with Rafael once he has time to process it and launch another plan to become a father.

As for Toño, it was no surprise that he would lie to Verónica about the pills. Rather than sticking to his guns and continuing to discuss the matter with Verónica, or even insisting on getting a second opinion or getting assistance from a family counselor if necessary, he chooses the easy but duplicitous way out. Verónica needs to dump him ASAP.

JudyB, Susanlynn, I am not a big fan of meds either and think that kids are too easily labeled with a whole spectrum of disabilities these days. Many kids are just really immature. We don’t hear that label enough anymore IMHO. That being said, I have seen meds work wonders on occasion.

I actually felt sorry for Fabián for a second in a never ending search for his father’s approval. It looks like he never got it and never will.

Where in the heck is María anyway?

Diana, yes, the text. Would it not be funny if we haven’t seen the last of Dulce? I haven’t thought about her for so long.

Thinking about people (Dulce) who we haven't seen in a while, what about THINGS we have not seen in a while? Like that plant Anifer insisted in bringing with her?

Hubs and I are headed to grandparents day at our granddaughter's school. 😊💕😊

Good point about not recently seen things like “the plant”. Have fun at grandparents day!

Alfredo, another excellent piece of work. Thank you thank you.

If MiLady is that big Lili should be showing by now if she is, but apparently she aint.

I thought there was something 'off' with Raf and the egg hunt. He was just too touchy and eager. Like he already had the baby sold, if we didn't know better.

Well, Neutron, no pooty for you for a while. That upcoming visit with the prostate examiner is about all the action you are getting for a loooong time. DUMBASS. Ha Ha Haaa

Exactly what, if anything, did Bosco DO to Looney Old Dude, AKA Father Fab? I hopeo there comes a power struggle between LOD wanting LogaToys destroyed and Fab wanting it for himself which will work in Mauricio/Anifer's favor.

Kirby: I see that Fabian & the cronies are still WINNING.

I actually got worried when I saw how many pills the doctor had prescribed to Neto. Tono definitely should have put his foot down and seriously spoken to Vero about other options before medicating their kid. The problem is Vero doesn't care about what he thinks, as if his opinions are just too dumb to even discuss. She doesn't want to negotiate with him. I don't know if this is a result of her being the working spouse so she gets the final say in decision making or if it's just her being plain over Tono. This still doesn't justify Tono's lying and switching the pills. I'd be surprised if the marriage survives this.

I can understand Rafael's anger but he definitely stooped low bringing up Rene's wedding fiasco. I also felt that he was being overly pushy- it was obvious Rene was having doubts about giving up her rights to the child. He was being overly selfish. If after he gets over his anger we don't see him as friendly with Rene anymore, then he was entirely manipulating her to get the ovum.

Flor and Neron got married? I definitely missed that episode! He got what he deserved though. He's another one who doesn't seem to care much about what his partner thinks.

If it really is Dulce texting Jorge, Kika has a big fight coming. I think she's emotionally attached to him and won't want to let him go.

Maia

Maia, that was my mistake, I should have said that Flor and Nerón’s “relationship” will be better. I wish they would get married for Milady)s sake considering he has children from his previous marriage.

Jarifa, yeah, what is up with the master's degree conversations???. She's not going to Mars.I got my master's over the course of a couple summers while teaching, getting married, and building a house.

Diana, I like chopped salads...chopped telenovelas..not so much.

Judy, hub's cousin is adopted, and he and his parents know nothing about his birth mother except that she "might be Irish." This was common back in the day. Now, the adoptive parents and birth parents are revealed to each other which sometimes results in the birth parents taking back the child. Cousin Tom was recently given one of those sendaway DNA kits, so it will be interesting to see what he finds out.

Maia,

Good points on Rafe and Renee. He was always sweet and all over her, but when she backed out of the egg deal, he really turned on her speedy quick. You are right that if he doesn't get over this, he was manipulating her all along.

Good Morning! I see there's alot of discussion already...great comments to start the morning.

Diana, I look forward to your comments too as they always bring such wondrous insight :-) ITA with you viewpoint, "I felt Rafael was clearly pushing Renee. I thought it painfully transparent he was putting his wants clearly above hers. After hearing everything said to her, I think the staunchest donor might have rethought the decision." Rafa did turn on her quickly, but, IMO, that would be the reaction of any person obsessed with having a child, given hope to have a child, then having the rug pulled from under them. Even Renee disregarded his comment about her runaway bride stunt...because she understood his anger and disappointment. Though I do agree with Maia's comment, " If after he gets over his anger we don't see him as friendly with Rene anymore, then he was entirely manipulating her to get the ovum."

Jarifa, ITA agree with your comment about the master's degree conversation, but I think it was Sonia, from the foundation, that Renee was talking to, not her counselor. Sonia got someone to give Renee a grant or sponsorship for her master's program and that is how she is involved.

Diana, I didn't give much importance to that text Jorge got after he talked to Kika because I figured it was from Kika (sending him kisses or other sexy message), but if it was from Dulce...geez that would turn everything even more topsy turvy!

Kirby, "Exactly what, if anything, did Bosco DO to Looney Old Dude, AKA Father Fab? I hopeo there comes a power struggle between LOD wanting LogaToys destroyed and Fab wanting it for himself which will work in Mauricio/Anifer's favor." I sure hope the TN gods hear ya!

Since this vendetta according to Fab's dad is due to Bosco taking everything from him, I wonder if he was in love with Maury's mother. If so, the guy was a player...Bosco's wife, his own wife, Renee's mother. These telenovelas like to do "sins of the father" themes about the preceding generation.

Awhile ago, maury told Friendfab that he wished his father had been his father...guy must have had a major personality change.

Chickie, oh..I want to see scene of Dulce meeting Kikidee. That would be great, especially if Jorge is right there between them.....stammering and squirming !

I cannot believe that Dulce has been completely ignoring her kids. I guess she has not been reading Judy's comments.

Thanks Jarifa, I completely thought I missed a major scene on Neron and Flor. Why won't he marry her? I do remember Flor always dropping hints that she wanted to be his wife, and when he wasn't getting it she flat out told him. Even that didn't move him. I still wonder what she saw in him.

Another thing that bothered me about the Rene-Rafael argument was when he said "We had a contract, you already agreed to it." She responded that it's her body, they can't force her to do the procedure. Can you imagine if the law could enforce something like that?

Yesterday when Noel was saying that he wants Logatoys to disappear, I thought Fabian was alluding to the fact that the fire killing Aurora wasn't an accident. But Noel stopped him mid sentence.

Maia

Maia, "Can you imagine if the law could enforce something like that?" Different show. . "The Handmaiden's Tale!!!" ...women as breeders. Yuck. I have never seen that show , but the storyline sounds scary and bizarre. It is based on a novel by a Canadian author.

Jarifa, my apologies, you were right; it was Diana the counselor who was talking to Renee and giving her bad advice...how could I have gotten them confused?!

Maia, "I thought Fabian was alluding to the fact that the fire killing Aurora wasn't an accident. But Noel stopped him mid sentence." YES! That was what I was asking in my first comment...After he got over the shock of his father telling him to dismantle Logatoys, Fabian said, "Well, we might as well have burned it down, like when I was a kid..." I DO think Fabian caused that fire as per his father's orders, but Fabian was not clear in his admission.

I was just thinking...of all these nitwit fathers, Jorge is the character that would be the most fun to portray. Sergio Mur is doing a really good job at keeping a straight face!

Excellent recap, Alfredo! I think that Fabián and Falcón may end up regretting firing Jorge. He may have his character flaws, but he seems to be quite a competent attorney. He may end up sinking both of them in a court of law. Kika may be his professional as well as personal salvation. She really does need Mexican legal representation for her company and together they could be formidable business partners.

RGvChick - Jorge's character is the most interesting because he probably has an IQ of 140 or more, yet is completely clueless about real life.

I did not like Rafa's body language, especially the way he kept touching Renee. It was obvious he was trying to manipulate her. Or something. I'm relieved she bowed out of that proposition.

Isn't the big deal about Renee's masters degree is that she'll be studying up in the U.S. and paying out of state tuition? Plus living expenses? Major financial deal ....yikes.

*** Grandparents day at school was cute. Just one of the perks. 😊

How sad and twisted if Noel was responsible for the first fire that caused Mauricio to suffer under such a loss and guilt all of these years. He needs a special kind of anvil in the end if it turns out to be true.

Doris, I’m relieved Renee changed her mind too. I just think she should have done it sooner or not agreed to it at all, especially knowing how obsessed Rafa was with the idea. Rodrigo was much more level-headed about it and anticipated a change of heart.

Susanlynn, I've never heard of that show or the book, but it sounds scary. It makes me think of the women sex slave industry, as well as the organ trade.

Rene said another the problem with donating the ovum was the fact that her and Rafael aren't strangers. Did Rafael specifically choose her because he liked her genes and academics? Or was it more of him and Rodrigo not being able to afford an egg from the donation clinics, and she was clearly a cheaper alternative? If the former, that was essentially selective breeding.

I remember when I was in college there were ads everywhere asking women to donate their eggs, for $8000. What bothered me about these ads is that they specifically asked for certain racial traits: white decendancy, light colored eyes, sometimes blonde hair. Some even went so far as to mark down european countries. I guess that was what the market called for in my area at that time. But you would think that if a couple is having trouble to conceive, that they would be satisfied just being able to have a child in their arms.

RGV, I completely missed the first part of your comment. I think they caused the fire, and Mauricio was the specific target that day, not the entire factory. Apart from putting others' lives in danger, how sickening to think Noel risked his son's life for that. Now history repeats itself, with Fabian using Anifer as a means to an end.

As for Jorge, maybe Kika will hire him once she discovers he's been fired.

I am just popping in to let you know how things are going for me. I am slowly getting better and can finally lift my left eyebrow up slightly. My left eye still won’t blink, but my vision is returning. Everything in that left eye has been way out of focus making it difficult to read or concentrate on anything on the computer screen. Plus the whole eye was just sore and sensitive from being dry all the time. The extreme fatigue was even worse than that and I was sleeping every chance I got.

Thank you Alfredo for stepping in for me last Friday and for today. I am just sorry that you are taking on the extra work. Hopefully by next week, I’ll be more mended so that I can recap. Now for my comments on yesterday’s episode:

I don’t blame Toño for not wanting to drug up poor Neto.

I am not in favor of drugging up kids because of ADHD. I really believe that ADHD is a modern invention of our time. Academia has required too many hours of making little kids sit still with very little exercise. Kids are getting fat from not only from home, but because school hours are set up supposedly to make the kids learn more. Only it’s backfiring. Some kids need to run around a lot more and to expel energy. Otherwise they “zone out” and don’t pay attention. My own son was put on these drugs for ADHD and my allowing him to be on these drugs was the worst mistake I every made with him. He ended up with severe depression in high school and was contemplating suicide. Depression turned into Bipolar disorder. He had a suicide attempt when he was 21. But once he got off all these drugs and had time to heal, he was no longer ADHD. If you look at him now, he’s a happily married father of 2 daughters and holds down a good job, has a nice home and nice cars. I am now firmly against drugging up these children today and if I had known better, I would have said NO to these drugs. There was not something wrong with my son. There is something wrong with the educational system wanting to drug up our children so they can sit there like zombies in class.

I don’t blame Renée for changing her mind on donating her own egg. That child would be genetically hers. This is not like giving away a puppy or kitten when your dog has puppies or when your cat has kittens. Her egg would turn into a child that would be her DNA, her son or daughter. But Rafa doesn’t see it that way. He is selfish and because he is in a relationship that cannot naturally produce a family, does he feel entitled to have a child by means of modern technology? His temper tantrum was very annoying and it shows how entitled he felt to Renée’s ovum. Sorry, but he is not entitled to anything! And no matter what, modern technology won’t make an IVF baby related to both of them. And I am still under the belief that depriving a child of a natural mother is just WRONG. No matter how much a man loves a child, he will never give a child what a mother can. There is a reason God created mothers. We women are not just incubators as in Handmaiden’s tale. I’ve watched the entire season of it and the whole thing just makes me mad with the misogyny of it all. And to me, two homosexual men bringing a baby into this world with no mother, hiring a surrogate is showing the worst kind of misogyny. He just wants to USE women for his own selfish purposes.

As for Flor, I don’t think she should have left Nerón. She is too hot tempered, but then, he just jumps to conclusions too quickly without giving thought to the real facts.

So Maria is alive but in prison in Guatamala?

I can’t wait for the anvil to fall on Fabian.

Is Dulce coming back?

Question: Is Lili pregnant? Did I miss something? I’ve been so tired and missing parts of the show because I kept falling asleep. But I thought it was funny about the book Jorge gave her at Christmas.

Thanks, Alfredo. Terrific job. Juan goes to answer and Mauricio grabs him by the collar and demands to know where Maria is. Juan takes out a knife and Mauricio thinks he might’ve overstepped his bounds. -- love the dry humor

Glad ya'll brought up Neron not marrying Flor. Makes no sense how he's so obsessed with Flor and Milady's protection after he's gone, but he won't give her the benefit of legal marriage right now. You go, Flor. But where are you going?

Jorge asks if Mauricio will go find Maria in Guatemala but Mauricio wonders what type of mother would leave her child like that. Either way, no good can come of him finding Maria, especially because Anifer is safe and sound at his side.

Disappointed in Mau here. How would Anifer feel if she knew her mother was alive and he didn't look for her?

The problem is Vero doesn't care about what he thinks, as if his opinions are just too dumb to even discuss.

Maia, exactly what bugs me about Vero.

Noel is depressing. Wasting all his long life and his son’s for stupid revenge. Could this man be the love of Renee's mother's life? Ugh.

Cynthia, Thanks for checking in with your Caray Family, and it is so good to finally hear that you are improving.
I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said. It seems modern diagnosis of ADHD etc come from the educational system who prefer our children sit there like zombies and don't cause any problems. Here in Florida they in their infinite wisdom decided that recess and any kind of physical activity were unnecessary.

There was such an outcry from parents that the schools backed down from that communist idea. (for now)

There have been books written about the drugging of American Youth by the school systems. Just Google anything to do with drugging and youth or schools and you will get an eyeful.

Cynthia, if Lili were preggers, we have almost surmised, it has been enough time that she would know it and be showing, as there has a lot of time passed since you know what.

"The problem is Vero doesn't care about what he thinks, as if his opinions are just too dumb to even discuss." I agree, glad Vero finally saw what a bonehead she is married to. As a matter of fact lately anything he has to say I miss because I am talking to the refrigerator or microwave.

OT: When I was in grammar school they brought in the local eyeglass salesman who tested all of our eyesight. Remarkably about half of my homeroom needed glasses, me included.

Our parents dutifully bought the required glasses and were told the kids needed to wear them every waking moment or dire consequences would occur. Everyone but little Master Johnson believed them. I only wore mine as a last resort. As the years went by my eyesight remained about 20/30 or so while each year when school resumed the other kids glassed got progressively thicker.

By college I could pass my driver's license test without them. None of my classmates could. Hmmmmm.....

Cynthia, I'm so glad to hear you're improving. You are a sweetheart to check in with us, even though using the computer screen is difficult, to let us know how you're doing. I'm sure lots of parents benefit from your account of your son's successful journey. Cheers to him.

Cynthia, I'm so happy you checked in. I am glad that you are improving, although it must be frustrating to not to be where you would like. Am keeping you in my prayers.

How wonderful that your son is doing so well, with a family of his own. Doctors don't always know what is best, do they? That said every situation differs.

Yours is also an interesting story Kirby. I got my first pair of glasses in my 20's but fortunately still only seem to need them for driving and seeing a distance away. I try never to wear them unless I have to.

"You go, Flor. But where are you going?"made me laugh Niecie. I have no idea...

Diana

Cynthia, so glad you stopped by and gave us an update. You are still in my prayers...hoping for a speedy and complete recovery for you.

You’ve brought up a hot topic...ADHD and the school system. Being a former educator, I can vouch for your every word. I could go on and on about my thoughts, but i’ll Just say that it is sad that doctors and psychiatrists have come up with so many disorders and syndromes to explain deviant and/or undesired behavior....the list is endless. Some teachers refer kids to special education with the hope that the child will qualify with whatever disability and be removed to a special education classroom. Though there is a big push for inclusion, that mindset is hard to change.

Such good news Cynthia. Glad life is getting better for you and that life also got better for your son once he was completely off medication. Pharmaceuticals can be life savers. But also life destroyers. Look at what Oxycontin has done...now we have an opioid epidemic in our country.

My sympathies to both young parents and all educators these days.

Prayers continue.

Cynthia, so glad to "see" you. I hope that you continue to improve with each passing day.

I must say that I split my time between here and the Outlander forum, but this is home to me. You all are so kind and caring to each other. In an increasingly harsh world, it is nice to have a calm, happy, calm cyberspace.

Ah, the swinging pendulum of education . I am a teacher who loves to teach, but except for eight years in a public senior high, I have spent most of my career teaching older teens and adults. When you have students of varying abilities in one class, you have to teach to the middle. Some students get a lesson immediately, others need more explanation, others still struggle , but you cannot hold everyone else behind. When I was in school and when I was teaching in a public school, students were tracked mostly by ability and future career path..academic, business, votech, etc. Now,students are mainstreamed. My daughter teaches sixth grade ENglish and her classes are mixed ability ...gifted ,special needs, etc all together. Trying to teach all these students of varying abilities is a challenge for any teacher.

Hi Cynthia, it's good to see your post! I hate that you're having to go thru this Bells Palsy and am happy to see you are improving already. Hopefully the progress will continue and quickly. (((Hugs)))

Alfredo thank you very much for this fine and fun recap!

I'm late to the party today, but that worked out really well as I get to read lots of thoughtful comments all at once rather than checking back several times during the day.

Cynthia, thanks for the update on your condition, I'm very glad you are making progress.

Some TN comments and a bit of philosophizing:

I think there are lots of things wrong with our educational system, from funding to scheduling to... well, most everything. I honestly wonder why anybody goes into teaching these days, certainly not for the money. Probably not for the satisfaction either when the entire system is working against you and your students.

Rafa is overexcited about having a kid and way too pushy about it. I don't blame him for wanting a child. There's nothing unusual about that and it is little different from anyone else's wanting a child. It's not like there is a shortage of kids out there, world population is close to eight billion people and climbing. If anything, the world is overpopulated with humans. And even if a same sex couple is less suited to raise kids, and I'm not sure it is, a good solid, same sex relationship would be better than a bitter, abusive heterosexual couple as parents.

Nerón can be as dimwitted as Toño, but he should have married Flor the first chance he got. He didn't need to be another Einstein to figure that one out.

Thank you everyone. I do miss my Caray patio!

Susanlynn, what Outlander forum are you in? I’d like to read that one too.

My kids had mostly good teachers. But there was one teacher that my son had in the 4th grade told me my son was never going to make it in the real world if I didn’t put him on drugs for ADHD. There was really nothing wrong with my son. He had asthma and took meds for that. Yes he had short attention span with stuff he wasn’t interested in. It was just a matter of maturity. He was smart and always enjoyed reading. He read way above his grade level. He even loved reading the newspaper and was always up on current events. He just didn’t like to write in elementary school and had terrible handwriting and his fine motor control was bad. His teacher hinted to me that if I didn’t get him to a doctor and put him on meds, that they would call CPS to investigate. I really didn’t like being threatened like that.

My son went to college (graduated after he was married, his wife is very supportive) and he has a bachelors degree in business administration. And he didn’t need drugs to get through!

So in our story, if Veronica only knew how bad these ADHD drugs can be. We can’t all be the same and not every kid can sit there in class for hours on end like a little zombie. In fact, my son used to say he felt like a zombie on those ADHD drugs.

Cynthia H - your son is very lucky to have you as a mom and that you were his advocate when he was young.

Supposedly, the reason that the Japanese have fewer cases of ADHD at the elementary school level is that they have short intense academic lessons interspersed with short intense exercise activity. My younger siblings had a wonderful 6th-grade teacher who, whenever he thought attention was flagging, would take the students out to the huge field behind the school and have them run to one end and then back. That refreshed them so that they could go back in the classroom and concentrate on academic work. (Of course this was in California, so no one had to wade through snow).

Thank you Andy for your well wishes on my health.

Andy you said: a good solid, same sex relationship would be better than a bitter, abusive heterosexual couple as parents.
Well let’s compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges. An abusive relationship for kids is never good. But I am not convinced that a same sex relationship is equal or better to a heterosexual couple with a good and loving marriage. The same sex relationship still deprives the children of one of the opposite sex parents and that is not a healthy place to be. I read a book recently called Jepthah’s Daughters. It is a collection of essays written by children of homosexual relationships. It was put together and edited by Robert Oscar Lopez and Rivka Edelman who were themselves raised by homosexual parents. Reading the essays, you would never know how much abuse goes on in the gay community. Many of these kids were molested by their parent’s friends who would come and go. I wish everyone could read that book to get the “rest of the story” as Paul Harvey used to say.

OK, Cynthia, I take your point and thank you for it.

But I am a little surprised to see you advocating for same fruit comparisons.

:-)

Oh Andy! Haven't you ever played the game "Apples to Apples"? :) :)

I have such tremendous respect for educators.

We are so fortunate to have such sharp insights from teachers on our very own patio, Judy, Susanlynn, RgvChick and others.

My youngest brother is a teacher. He has given his life - his time, his energy and devotion to his students.

I quietly asked him if he wished he had children once. He looked shocked and said "Diana, I have had hundreds of children and I care about each and every one". His proudest moments seemed to be those that came back to visit and told him how much he had helped them and changed their lives.

How wonderful that must be!

Misty eyed Diana

Diana, your brother sounds like a Wonderful teacher. I think that my daughter is , too. She has won awards for her teaching . A few years ago , she got a Fulbright scholarship to visit some Japanese schools. She said that they spent a lot of time memorizing , and she was surprised at how the students acted up whenever the teacher left the room. I know that I have had Asian students who have memorized and write sentences from the textbook word for word on tests. They often have difficulty doing the critical analyses and reflections that American students are encouraged to do.

I cannot believe that my granddaughter is doing geometry already inze ing grade and adding and subtracting three digit numbers. I wasn't doing that in second grade !!

Cynthia...the Outlander forum that I frequent is theLitforum.com. You have to register. Then, look for the Outlander author's name ...Diana Gabaldon. She sometimes shows up and adds comments. So far, she has commented on Two or three posts that I made.

We played Apples to Apples on Easter. I got it as a Christmas gift. It is fun.

A Fulbright scholarship?

I wouldn't expect less from your child Susanlynn. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree :)

Diana
