The male chauvinist boss (hereinafter known as MCB) hopes Toño
doesn’t have a problem being an assistant to a woman and that Veronica doesn’t
have a problem having a man for an assistant. (Little does he know how long
these two have been practicing for this.) Toño assures him he has no problem;
in fact, he would be honored to work for, uh-hmm, Barbara? Veronica corrects
him before stating that she doesn’t care if her assistant is male, female or a
squid…as long as he does his work well and that he knows her name.
MCB tells Veronica that she will have to share the
secretary with another executive, but assures her that Toñito is all hers. Toño
frowns and mumbles, “More?” After CB leaves them so that they can get to know
each other and break the ice, Toño swears he didn’t know anything and asks if
she knew, but Veronica had no idea it was him either. She can’t believe this
happened; it’s as if someone wanted to forcefully get them together! Toño
thinks it is just destiny that has turned out to be such a joker. Once Veronica
calms down, she tells Toño that they will have to pretend not to know each
other because the company can’t find out that they are married; they told her
thousands of times that they do not accept any type of nepotism in this
company. (Nothing like a clandestine CIA/FBI style secret plot to bring a
couple together!) When Toño comments
that, after all, they are practically not related, Vero gives him a scornful
look before he pointedly adds that they are getting a divorce; and they can
practice so that when the divorce goes through, they are prepared. Veronica
didn’t like the sound of that. She then hopes that Toño will treat her like a
boss…better than how he treated his ex-wife. Toño sarcastically tells her, “Of,
course, Boss. I will treat you with all due respect…of course.” When Veronica
gets serious and asks if it doesn’t bother him that she is his boss, Toño
replies, “Not at all. You don’t know the number of male idiots that I’ve had as
bosses. You are incredible! I don’t have a problem…seriously.” He fudges then
adds, “Anyway, it’ll only be part time. I have to go take care of MY kids;
Ma’am, I hope you understand.” Veronica flippantly walks to her chair and sits
down as she asks, “Oh, okay. How many kids to you have?” Toño plays along as he
sits and tells her about his beautiful children. She comments that it is a coincidence
that she also has two boys and a girl. Toño then tells her that they need to be
careful…for the sake of his kids and her kids. After he offers her some coffee
and “guesses” how she likes it, Veronica comments that he is very efficient. (It
is already working. Twelve words without it degenerating into a fight.)
At Nerón’s house, Flor opens the door for María who has
been wondering if Nerón mistreats her. Flor smiles and tells her that María
knows how men are; they can be difficult. When she adds that she is already
used to it, María is taken aback and wonders if she is serious. Flor then tells
her she doesn’t want to be rude, and as she leads María to the door tells her
that, if that is all María needed, she has lots of housework to do plus take care
of Milady. (No María, Nerón does not spank his wife. Even if he did, you can't
borrow him.)
At Mau’s house, Jorge tells Mau that, in the end, Anifer
needs a family…and he insists that a family consists of a mother and a father
who, if possible make their nest…and if based on a holy matrimony, even better.
Mau tells him to slow down; no one is talking about a wedding…in fact, Mau is
allergic to rice (…and hoping María will give him more of a ‘cold shoulder’?).
When Jorge points out that María is Anifer’s mother and asks how much of a
sacrifice it would be to try it out, Mau reminds him that he loves another
woman despite all of their problems. (Similar to being in love with a cloud.) Mau
wonders if Jorge ever loved someone with whom he argued, but Jorge evades the
question and tells Mau that they aren’t talking about him. Mau knows that if he
continues with Renée, María will go off to some unknown mountain with Anifer
and he is no climber. If they leave, Mau will never see Anifer again. Ani is
too important to him; and he just can’t be without her. Jorge then changes the
subject and asks Mau if he will allow him to open a bank account for the
Cooperative; he wants to make a deposit from the savings he has…so they can
start. Mau looks at the amount and smiles as he tells Jorge that he must have
fallen from the heavens; he is like a little angel. Mau is so excited that he
thanks Jorge and gives him a kiss unaware that María had just walked in. (María,
a sharpie, quickly recalculates how to compete with Jorge AND Pipi Longstocking.)
When María wonders about the expression of affection,
Jorge quickly shoves Mau away and denies any kind of affection. María laughs
and asks if they have some good news to share, (hint hint.....Anifer and I need
to know) so Mau tells her that they are on their way to the bank. (No, Mar, the
financial bank, not the one at reproductive health services.)
At Logatoys, Fabián is frantically rummaging through some
papers on his desk when Falcón enters and asks him what happened to his face.
As Fabián continues to look through the papers, he answers that he had a small
accident. Falcón then asks if he found any of his father’s designs, so a very
frustrated Fabián slams the papers down and yells, “No! And there is nothing at
the house!” When Falcón suggests that he look in the old files, Fabián growls
that there is nothing in the files. He then remembers that the oldest ones were
stored…at Mauricio’s house! As he stands, Fabián declares that it is time that
he claimed everything that belongs to him.
At the repair shop, Lili explains to R&R that since
she isn’t going to school and there was no one at home, she made a quick
getaway to the repair shop. When Pablo asks why they wanted to see them,
R&R look very excited as Rodrigo replies that they want to give them some
good news. Rafa then adds that he and his monster have discussed it; and they
are willing to adopt Ulysses…they blush as they admit that they already named
the baby. (Pushy, pushy, pushy!) Pablo
and Lili are elated and thank them; and Rodrigo points out that the process
will be complicated for Pablo and Lili as well as for them, but they are
hopeful that everything will turn out just fine. Rafa then adds that they need
to talk about how they can help her during her pregnancy. Lili agrees and tells
them they can meet whenever they want, but Rodrigo bursts everyone’s bubble
when he mentions that they also need to talk to Lili’s father since he has a
right to know what they will be doing. After Rafa comments that Jorge is going
to hit the roof, Pablo points out that Jorge does have a right to know, but
that’s all; and Lili adds that she will take the responsibility of telling her
father. Rodrigo thinks he and Rafa should be there with her, but Lili tells
them not to worry; she will talk to him. They all agree to let Lili talk to
Jorge; and R&R tell her to contact them if she needs anything. They then
give each other appreciative hugs.
After R&R leave, Lili wants reassurance that this is the
best thing they should do; so Pablo assures her that this is best for both of
them, but mostly for the baby who deserves to have a family who will love him
and take care of him…especially now that he has reconsidered going across the
border.
At Mau’s house, the Anitoy Cooperative members meet. Mau
tells them he has some good news; “Jacobo” transferred a good amount of money
for the Cooperative. Jorge looks totally annoyed that Mau still can’t say his
correct name; and Nerón exclaims, “Well, Jorge. Hooray for JORGE!” Jorge then
tells Mau, “It’s the modest collaboration…humble collaboration from JORGE to
the Cooperative!” Nerón looks up and prays, “Little Jesus, give me a hand with
the sale of the repair shop.” He then addresses JORGE, with Toño’s assistance in
emphasizing “JORGE,” and asks him “When you aren’t using the car for
Transporcity, can you let me use it to work it for you? We can talk about
splitting the money later.” Jorge agrees. (Is this similar to how some people
can't spell hemorrohoid, Marcello?)
[Mexican Version: On their way back from school, Anifer tells
María that she likes it when María goes for her, María also likes to go for
Anifer. As they get to the gazebo, Anifer comments that she would like Mau to
also go for her; so María responds that they will have to see about that. (We
are waiting for Miss Ani to suggest Mar seduce him right there in the gazebo.) She then tells Anifer to wait for her there
at the gazebo because she forgot she had to do something. María goes to Nerón’s
house and is surprised to see Pablo answer the door. She asks for Flor; so
Pablo tells her she is busy in the kitchen doing the laundry. When Pablo asks
if María has something urgent to tell Flor, María shakes her head, but asks him
if everything is okay with Flor. Pablo tells her Flor is fine and asks if María
wants to leave Flor a message. María becomes insistent and wants to know what
condition Flor is in; she has a very bad feeling and wants to see and talk to
Flor. Pablo then hesitates before confiding that Flor doesn’t feel well; her
whole body hurts. Flor doesn’t tell him anything, but he thinks it’s something
serious. After he tells María that she shouldn’t worry because Flor will pull
through this, María has doubts.]
[Mexican Version: At Rafa’s house, a man comes looking for
Renée. After Rafa tells him that is her house, but she is not there, the man
hands him a red folder.]
Outside, Anifer and Neto are practicing soccer when Anifer
sees Renée arriving and runs happily to her. They hug tightly and Renée tells
Anifer she missed her very much. As they walk to the house, Anifer comments
that she hadn’t seen Renée in a long time and wonders if she brought her
something (typical kid response). They continue walking as María comes from
Flor’s house and sees them sit together at the gazebo. She plays with Neto
while she listens as Anifer asks Renée if she will be going back to Maryland
and Renée responds that things went very well and, in a few months, she will
have to be living in the US to begin her mastery program. Anifer tells Renée
that she is going to tell her daddy to take him to see her school…because even
though she is leaving, she and Mau can still be friends, right? Renée is
surprised by the term, “friends,” so Anifer explains that since she will be so
far away, they can’t be “novios.” Renée isn’t sure how to respond so she tells
Anifer that she doesn’t know, then asks Anifer why she is asking her that. She
wonders if Anifer wants her and Mau to be just friends. When Anifer shyly
replies, “Yes,” Renée asks her why; so Anifer explains that if she and Mau aren’t
novios anymore, then Mau can be her mother’s boyfriend. Renée is not enthused
by the thought… (Oh Boy! Daggar 1)
Just then, Rafa comes out with the man and sees Renée. He
goes over to Renée and tells him that a man is there to give her a notice; so the
man walks up and hands her the red folder as Rafa tells her it’s an order..they
want to take her house. Renée is shocked!
Inside Mau’s house, the Coop members continue their
discussion. Mau tells them that with the money his friend…everyone listens attentively
to see if Mau will use he right name, but Mau continues with “my friend” and
adds that plus the money they will be saving up, they can launch the
“Papa/Mama” in the market with the Anitoy brand. He thinks it would be ideal if
it could be on Children’s Day..and together with some of the other toys, make a
deal with the distributors along with a good promotion…sales will skyrocket!
Jorge wonders if Mau doesn’t think they are jumping the gun; they haven’t even
sent the request to produce the “Papa/Mama.” When Mau asks how long it will
take, Jorge is confused as to what he is asking; so Mau asks”How long will it
take you to address me as “tu” (informally). Mau urges him to try it, so Jorge exclaims,
“Mauricio!” but Mau wants him to elaborate; so Jorge exclaims (informally),
“Mauricio! How are you?” After everyone cheers and claps for Jorge, Mau tells
them that they need to find a factory that will produce the toys there in
Mexico, not in China or anywhere else; their toys have to be made in Mexico!
Outside, Renée tells Anifer to go play for a while. After she
leaves, Renée asks the man who sent him and who wants to take her house. When
the man responds that it is the son of the legitimate owner of the home…the
inheritor of the house she broke into, Renée denies breaking into her own home,
but the man tells her that Fabián is well within his rights to claim the house;
and that he is only fulfilling his duty to inform her. After the man leaves,
Renée complains to Rafa that Fabián has no right to anything as María
approaches. When María asks if everything is okay, Renée responds that
everything is fine and asks for Mauricio. María tells her he is in the house
having a Coop meeting, but she can go ahead and go in; María is also going over
there. Renée thanks her, but prefers to wait until Mau is finished; so she asks
Rafa if she can stay with him for a while. Rafa agrees…since it is her house (…for
a while…thanks Mom, you're far more complicated dead than alive).
Inside at the Coop meeting, Mau asks what references they
have for the factories, so Nerón replies that he got them from good sources,
people he can trust. The first ones are factories that are the best…they make
the best pirate imitations in the market. All the others are dismayed at the
term “pirate,” so Mau tells them that maybe they should look at the second set
of factories. As Jorge agrees, María walks in and asks how things are going.
After everyone greets her, she walks behind Nerón and greets the “most macho”
of the cul-de-sac. Nerón takes it as a compliment and everyone laughs as Mau
tells her that they are discussing the factories to produce the toys there in
Mexico. When Nerón adds that it would help their countrymen and countrywomen
who need it most, María sarcastically comments that he must care so-o-o much
about the Mexican women since he goes out of his way for them. Nerón doesn’t
take note of the spite in her voice and agrees that he would, especially for
his Florezota. When she mumbles that he is shameless, Nerón wonders if she has
something against him. When Mau asks María what’s going on, María tells them to
ask Nerón…who knows very well what she is talking about…but Nerón looks
clueless…
At Rafa’s house, Renée feels like she has a lump in her
throat. Rafa understands how she must feel with everything that is happening to
her right now…with Mauricio and her house. Renée never thought this could
happen to her; she is at the brink of being left on the street. Rafa assures
her that can be avoided; she needs to review everything thoroughly because the
fact that she has lived in that house all her life must account for
something. (Yeah, maybe a lifetime of
back rent?) Renée then adds that there is also the situation with María; she
never saw that coming. When Rafa responds that Renée only has a child’s point
of view…and beyond that, she doesn’t know anything else, Renée thinks that
Anifer would never make up something like that . (Oh Boy) Rafa thinks that it’s
not a matter of Anifer making up things or that it is intentional; what he
means is that she is a child and is hoping to see her mother and father
together. Renée counters that the more she thinks about it, the more it makes
sense…María is Anifer’s mother; and María would probably think it would be
great if Mauricio loved her daughter as if Anifer were his. When Rafa is
surprised to hear that Anifer is not Mauricio’s daughter, Renée realizes she
spoke too much and asks him to not say anything…though it probably doesn’t
matter that the truth is out. After Renée explains that Mauricio is not
Anifer’s biological father, Rafa comments that he can surely see how much he
loves her…that is what surprises him…that Mauricio loves her so much.
At Mau’s house, Anifer is on her bed playing and having a
conversation with her dolls, “They’re just little lies, Papa. Don’t be angry
with me, please.” ‘Papa’ responds in a deep voice, “Lies are not little or big,
child. They are lies and that’s it!” Barbie/Ani asks the woman dolls, “Are you
two upset with me too?” Mama doll says, “I can’t be content; I don’t like lies
either, daughter.” Blonde doll/Renée responds, “I don’t either, Ani. You know
lying is not good, right?” Barbie/Ani says, “Yes, I feel bad because I love the
three of you very much.” After the Barbie kisses the three other dolls, she
says, “but I want to live with my mama and papa,” then starts to draw.
Meanwhile, in the other room, Nerón doesn’t understand
María’s jabs and asks if she is sure they are toward him. When Mau gets up and
asks if there is something going on that they don’t know about, María remarks,
“I don’t know if you all are aware, but what is outrageous (indignante) is that
this man is physically abusive to his woman…he beats her!” The men gasp as
Nerón quickly stands and asks, “What are you talking about?” The other men
think that it just can’t be and Toño remarks, “It’s gotta be the opposite
because if Nerón lays a hand on her, Florezita will tear his head off!” When
Mau adds that he doesn’t know where she got that idea and that it can’t be
true, María says, “Well, I hate to spoil your meeting, but what I am telling
you is the truth! I saw Flor Ivonne; she has bruises on her arms and she
doesn’t want to talk about the issue.” As Nerón looks desolate, María
continues, “She looks completely worn and if you don’t believe me, go look at
her!” As Anifer comes slowly out of her room, she listens as Jorge comments
that he hasn’t seen Flor, Mau asks if this is true, and Toño asks Nerón to
defend himself; so Nerón reluctantly confides that Flor is ill...very ill. (The
finesse of a hand grenade, María.)
At Rafa’s house, Rafa comments that he respects Mauricio and
that it just goes to show that blood doesn’t make a family. (Yessss.... how
ducky Raf) Renée agrees and adds that it is what is in your heart; that is what
makes a family. After Rafa asks what she is going to do about her house, Renée
responds that before anything else, she needs to go question Fabián because he
told her he had no interest in her house; she doesn’t understand why he is now
trying to cause problems for her. Rafa thinks she should take it a step at a
time; the first and most important thing she should do is go see Mauricio and
clear things up. Renée nods unenthusiastically.
At Logatoys, Fabián is on the phone with someone and tells
him that he will be patient, but he wants the problem resolved; he doesn’t want
Renée to come and make a claim on anything that should belong to him…and this
should be done discretely. Fabián hangs up when Falcón arrives because they
have much to do. When he sees that Fabián looks perturbed, he asks if something
happened; so Fabián tells him it’s family matters. When he tells Falcón that he
wants to take back the house at the cul-de-sac, Falcón has no idea why he would
want that shack. When he wonders if it’s to bother Mauricio, Fabián remarks
that the house is his; Mauricio will lose out. (Ahem....was there a mixup on
the way to Hell about who lives in which house, Fab?) When Falcón informs Fabián that Kika is in
Mexico, Falcón suggests that she could invest in Logatoys, but Fabián thinks
she could do something else.
At Nerón’s house, Flor is reposing on the couch when Nerón
runs in, kneels in front of her and asks her to please, please, pleeease,
forgive him! Flor is clueless until Mauricio, followed by the Snoop Troop,
marches in and tells her that Nerón told them about her illness. Everyone
starts talking to her at once until Anifer shouts, “ENOUGH!” When Anifer tells
Flor that if she needs anything from them, all she needs to do is yell and they
will come running, Flor nods and wonders why. Nerón explains that he had no
recourse but to tell them about the leukemia, so Flor asks everyone to turn
away for a bit. Once they do, she hits Nerón a few times before telling
everyone they can turn back.
Mauricio reiterates that they are there for whatever she
needs; all she needs to do is say “frog” and they will jump. After Flor nods
appreciatively, Anifer says “frog” a few times and everyone jumps. Flor graces
them with her beautiful smile.
At Mau’s house, Renée is in Anifer’s room looking around. She
picks up an old drawing and smiles, but then she sees the new drawing on
Anifer’s bed and picks it up. When she sees that it is a drawing of Anifer, her
mother, and her father, Renée is disheartened and throws the drawing back on
the bed. (Oh Boy, Dagger 2)
In her suite, Kika talks to Valentina on the phone and asks
how things are going. After Valentina tells her Jorge is about the same and
Lili is terrible, Kika comments that she doesn’t want the same thing to happen
to Valentina so she wants to speak to her about sexual relationships. Valentina
confides that she isn’t involved with anyone; though some of her friends are. After
Kika asks if Valentina ever gets curious, she adds that when girls’ hormones
start kicking in and they start meeting boys, they start getting that feeling
that you just can’t explain. Kika then realizes she went a little too far and
tells Valentina she was just asking; so Valentina first tells her she hasn’t
felt that thing that Kika is talking about…but then she thinks about it and confides
that, honestly, yes, she has felt that way. Kika points out that she considers
herself a great woman and mega-liberal, but Valentina is too young to be
thinking about starting a life of sex. After Valentina agrees, Kika tells her
that before she does ‘it,’ she needs to be well-informed about contraceptive
methods because what happened to Lili could have been prevented…by being
informed. Valentina understands and thanks her for everything Kika has told
her; she swears that she will think about it. After Valentina hangs up, she
gets a computer message from Dani which peaks her curiousity.
At Nerón’s house, María admits that she jumped to conclusions
and apologizes to Nerón. Flor tells her not to worry about it and thanks
everyone for coming and trying to cheer her up. She then adds that she doesn’t
want them to feel sorry for her or treat her as such. She also reminds them of
the saying “bad weeds never die” and tells them she is the worst of all. After
everyone laughs, Toño doesn’t want to be a busybody, but still asks how they
will cover all the medical costs. Nerón explains that is why he needs to sell
the repair shop…to cover the costs of the treatments and to put a portion into
the Cooperative. Flor remarks that she doesn’t want him to sell it. When Nerón
insists, she tells everyone that she didn’t get together with a man, she got
together with a mule! Mauricio then announces that aside from the Cooperative,
they will now unite as a team to help Nerón and Flor. Jorge asks how they can
help, so Pablo suggests that they can all help take care of Flor until Nerón
sells his repair shop. Mau asks Nerón to hold off on selling the repair shop
for a while because a portion of the money ‘Jeremías’ put into the Cooperative
could be used to support the Machucas. Jorge clears his throat before he agrees
and adds that this is a time when they should provide support for each
other…and it is also a good time to learn each other’s names…for example, his
name is ‘Jorge’ not ‘Jeremías.’ Toño then adds that he might be able to get
discounts for medications at his new job; all he needs to do is find out and
ask his new boss. After María comments that this is the true meaning of
solidarity, Flor smiles and says, “Frog!” Everyone jumps off of their chairs
causing some furnishings to fall. (Unbeknownst to María and everyone that Flor
just called her a FROG!)
Outside, Veronica arrives and sees Renée; so she gives her a
big hug. Renée has much to tell her and asks if she has time; so Veronica tells
her she is out from work for the day. Veronica also has many things to tell
Renée and asks if she has time now. Renée replies that she was looking for Mau,
but hasn’t been able to find him. Veronica suggests that he is probably at her
house talking away with Toño while she is there worrying. Renée sighs and they
give each other a long, consoling hug…(Don't take her off your radar yet María,
it's a Sisterly hug)
At Kika’s suite, Kika opens the door to find Fabián standing
there. When she asks what he’s doing there, he sighs deeply, looks well below
her neck, and wonders if she is going to continue with her snide remarks. He
also wonders where the nice, well-educated woman who would invite him into her
suite and offer him a mimosa is now. Kika smirks and tells him she is in no
mood for his sarcasm; and if that is all he is there for, he can leave. Fabián
tells her to calm down; he is there to talk business. He knows she is in Mexico
because of business; so being the business woman she is, he thinks she’ll be
interested. Kika responds that she would be interested if it weren’t him; she
doesn’t want any dealings with him. When she comments that she is very
scrupulous with where she invests her money, Fabián doesn’t doubt it; and that
is why he wants her to invest in the new Logatoys productions. He has plans to
launch very innovative toys to the market. Kika laughs and wonders what Fabián
could possibly do if Mau was in charge before and couldn’t fix things. Fabián
retorts that he can do much more than she could imagine. There is nothing that
has to do with her ex’s style; instead, Logatoys is moving along and has a very
promising future…and THAT should interest her. (Yes, interested like in finding
the FLUSH lever in the dark)
At Veronica’s house, Tania tells Veronica that her father is
at Mau’s house and left her to take care of her brothers. Neto comments that he
doesn’t like Tanya taking careof him because she scolds him more than Veronica.
After Veronica quiets the kids down, she tells Renée that one never knows what
Toño could be doing and that her (Renée’s) love is probably around there
somewhere. Veronica notes Renée’s dejected look and asks what is wrong; so
Renée motions that they should move elsewhere to talk. Once alone, Renée confides
that she her relationship with Mau is not going well.
At Kika’s suite, Kika tells Fabián that this precious woman
has her own things to do; and she has enough with her own businesses. When she
adds that her life is going in a different direction and that he is not in
those directions, Fabián stands and tells her that he hopes she is not planning
to invest in the Cooperative that Mau is forming with his ex-employees, but
Kika is surprised to hear about the Cooperative. When Fabián tells her that the
mediocre Coopeative has no future, Kika wonders how Fabián can think that since
Mau, Georgy Boy and even the maid have so much experience. After Fabián tells
her that if it’s up to him, things will go poorly for the Cooperative, he suggests
that she think about it.
At the gazebo, Mau asks Anifer why she is so sad…and if she
is sad because she misses Renée. When Anifer tells him that Renée already
returned, Mau wonders why they didn’t tell him; so María apologizes and tells
him that with everything that happened with Nerón, she forgot to tell him. (Uh
huh) Mau wonders why Renée didn’t look for him; and, as he remembers that he
doesn’t have his phone with him, Renée walks to him and tells him she is
there. They look at each other, but don’t hug. #awkward
[Mexican Version: At Jorge’s house, Valentina and Lili are in
their bedroom. Valentina wonders if Lili’s pregnancy makes her feel so bad that
she just wants to be laying down all the time. Lili snaps that if Valentina
doesn’t know what she is feeling, then she shouldn’t be giving her opinion.
When Valentina remarks that she hopes she won’t find out till she’s thirty,
Lili responds that was what she had thought. Valentina then asks why she and
Pablo didn’t take care of themselves; so Lili replies that they were stupid…and
they let the hots overtake them. When she tells Valentina that they only did it
once without a condom, Valentina is shocked to know that they did it several
times. (Val, Google 'rabbit') After Lili nods, Valentina supposes that Lili
must have been in love with Pablo; so Lili admits that she was in love.
Valentina then wonders if Lili doesn’t feel anything for Pablo any more…because
after all, Pablo will always be the baby’s father; and whether Lili wants it or
not, Pablo will always be a part of her life. Lili confides that Pablo is very
nice, but one can’t be with a person just because of a mistake; that isn’t love
and it isn’t right to be together just because of the baby. Valentina agrees.
(In love just long enough to do it forty times, right?)]
At Mau’s house, Renée asks Mau about Flor, so Mau tells
her Flor is about the same as ever…fun, a go-getter. When he tells Renée that
the cul-de-sac is filled with great women and that she is the greatest one,
Renée thanks him, but wants to get serious. She continues that though he
appreciates her as a person, she feels that, as a couple, he has turned the
page on her. Mau can’t believe what he is hearing and tells her she is
mistaken. When she asks, “Are you going to deny that things have gotten complicated
for us?” Mau replies, “Well it’s always complicated, isn’t it?” Renée tells him
not to kid himself and to be honest…it’s obvious that there is something going
on between him and María. Mau is still in disbelief and wonders where Renée
could get that idea. When Renée responds that she has her little sources, Mau
knows she is talking about Anifer and wonders what Anifer told her; so Renée
shares that Anifer told her that they were trying to look for a way to be
together. When Renée adds that it’s just normal since María is Anifer’s mother,
Mau denies telling Anifer anything and thinks that if Anifer is presuming
something, it’s probably because of some comment her mother made…not him. Renée
doesn’t think it matters who said what and asks if it’s true that there is
something going on between them. Mau denies it, but admits that María has made
some comments that stirred him somewhat. Renée thinks that is normal since
María is pretty and intelligent, but Mau tells her María can be whatever…the
one he loves is her (Renée). When Renée asks if he is sure, Mau assures her
that he is…though if María leaves, she will take Anifer away forever. Renée
can’t ask Mau to choose between her and his daughter; that would not be
fair…but she does need to ask, “Do you feel something for María?” Mau responds,
“What is ‘something’? Can you be more specific?” (An unequivocal NO works
better than a return question, Mau.) Renée gets frustrated and tells him he
knows exactly what she is talking about; so Mau admits that María is attractive…and
a relationship with her would makes things easier. He tries to continue, but
Renée remarks, “There is nothing more to say. I will make things easy for you.
Don’t worry about us; what there was between us is over...and that’s it.” Mau
is crestfallen and has no words… (Tree...Fruit...Fruit...Tree...Renée)
At Nerón’ s house, Pablo sits with Nerón and Flor as he
struggles to find the words to tell them that he and Lili will be giving up the
baby for adoption. Nerón and Flor gasp in disbelief and wonder if he is crazy;
they can’t do that! Pablo asks them to calm down; they have already discussed
it and have decided. Pablo then asks them not to say anything to Jorge because
he knows nothing about it yet. When Nerón comments that everyone at the cul-de-sac
knows that Lili is expecting a baby, Pablo clarifies that he means that they
shouldn’t mention the issue about the adoption. Flor wholeheartedly agrees that
Jorge is going to hit the roof; so she tells Nerón to make sure and not say
anything…Jorge is a good guy, but when he gets the devil in him…God forbid!
At Mau’s house the downcast conversation continues. Renée
asks, “Mauricio, tell me the truth. Anifer is what’s most important to you,
right?” After Mau nods and confirms, Renée adds, “Moreover, you find María
attractive, intelligent…” but Mau denies meaning it in that way. When Renée
points out, “It is a fact that María could interest you as a woman; admit it.
It’s okay to change your priorities…” Mau responds, “Ah-hah, so says the expert
on the subject…the one who changed her plans to live here and make a family
with me and Ani to go study in America.
Renée’s jaw drops in disbelief with what Mau just said,
so she responds, “I knew you were a womanizer, irresponsible and so many other
things, but I never knew that side of you! I have just liberated myself from a
machín (masculinist)!” Mau counters with, “Machín? Me? That’s all I needed! I
support you and encourage you!” When Renée retorts, “You just threw it in my
face that I want to go off to study!” Mau adds, “Oh, now the feminist is coming
out!” They start arguing back and forth until Renée reiterates that Mau is a
“machín” and Mau shouts that she is stubborn!
At Jorge’s house, Valentina and Baldo sit together as
Jorge tells them about Flor. Baldo comments that his mother had something
similar; so Jorge asks them to be especially careful with Flor. Lili then
sarcastically comments, “Jorge is always so good with everyone else, but, of
course, it’s not an ‘Indio’.” Baldo chides her for defending ‘Indios’ and
thinks it’s because she continues to see the lout. When Jorge asks if she is
still seeing Pablo, Lili snidely responds, “Yes, and what? What are you going
to do to me? Are you going to lock me up forever or what? But let me make one
thing clear, I don’t plan to go back with Pablo…if that’s what really worries
you…although, whether you like it or not, he is the father of my baby.”
At Mau’s house, Renée wonders why Mau wants to continue
with her if she has so many defects. So Mau slowly walks to her and responds,
“Why? So I can continue seeing myself in your eyes…to tell you ‘I love you.’”
They look deeply into each other’s eyes and kiss passionately…
Outside in the gazebo, Anifer and María walk in circles
around the tree. Anifer wonders why they didn’t go into the house with her
father and Renée; so María explains that they hadn’t seen each other for
several days, and the best thing to do is give them some space and time to talk
at ease. When Ani asks if she thinks they are fighting, María responds that is
something that they shouldn’t care about…and it’s not right to be asking too
many questions. After Anifer comments that maybe her father and Renée will only
be friends, María wonders why she thinks that; so Ani replies that if she and
her father become ‘novios,’ then her father and Renée can surely be friends.
Inside, the two lovers continue to kiss passionately. Mau
pauses and leads Renée to the bedroom. When he assures her that no one is
there, they both run into the bedroom, embrace and continue their heated
kisses. After Renée softly caresses his face, they gradually walk to the bed
and slowly start to undress. Amidst the soft, glowing lights, they surrender to
their love as the fire within engulfs them; and they make endless love until
they are both spent.
Once dressed, they sit on the bed as tears flow down
Renée’s face and she says, “I love you...and though it sounds odd, before you,
I had never fallen in love.” Mau desolately responds, “The same with me. With
you, love is so different from what I have ever known…and that makes it more
difficult to face what is coming, right?”
As he hugs her, Mau says, “You don’t have to give up your
dreams for me.” (sniff, sniff) Renée nods and responds, “And you cannot leave
here…for the Cooperative and…you have to make sure that they don’t separate you
from Anifer.” Mau agrees and remarks, “You, more than anyone, know how much I
love my little girl.” As they hold each other closer, Renée recalls a song her
mother sang and she thought was so corny, but now she understands it more that
ever… . She recites the song, “We, who love each other so much, should go our
separate ways. Don’t ask anymore of me…” Mau adds, “It’s not for lack of love;
I love you with all my soul.” Renee continues, “I swear that I adore you and in
the name of this love…” and a bereft Mau adds, “and for our own good” as Renée
walks out finishing with, “I say good-bye.” (going for another box of tissue…) Nosotros by Luis Miguel
At Veronica’s house, Toño talks to his mother on the phone
and asks if she needs him to go help her. He tells her that as soon as his new
boss gives him a chance, he will go see them. After Esperanza hangs up on him,
Veronica comments that it is of no surprise that Esperanza hung up on him since
he asked fourteen times for assurance that his father was well. Toño can’t
believe that his father got over his illness so quickly.
Outside, Renée sits with Anifer as she tells her that , with
her parent’s permission, they can write to each other and talk to each other on
Facetime. As María approaches, she notices Anifer’s sad face and asks if
everything is alright; so Renée replies that they are as well as can be when
people who love each other say good-bye. After Renée thanks her for asking,
María honestly doesn’t know what to say; she feels a little bad because of the
way things have evolved (just a little bad, María? Are you struggling to keep
from smiling at a little victory?). She knows this is not the moment to talk
about it..and even more since her daughter is present. Anifer sadly wonders if
everyone is angry with each other, so Renée assures her that they are not. When
María asks why Anifer thinks that, Anifer replies, “Because it’s my fault Renée
is leaving.” Renée assures Anifer that she is not at fault; this is a decision
that she made, not Anifer. Anifer then confesses, “I told my father that if my
mother wasn’t his girlfriend, she would take me far away...and my mother didn’t
say that; the liar was me.” Stay Tuned…
