Por Amar Sin Ley, 4/19/18 Chapter 33: POP Goes the PISTOLA

    • Juanito returns to the strip club hoping to find a link to Patricia and spies Tatania on the stage.
    •
    • Roberto’s high school soccer buddy introduces him to his dinner guests.  There’s his business partner/accountant and a doctor friend, the business buddy’s wife and soccer dude’s wife/girlfriend there so far.
    •
    • Juanito tries to buy a private room to speak to Tatania.  “--Yeah, you and everybody else in the world wants to.  But sorry, she’s all booked for the evening.  Come back tomorrow night.” (And don't forget to drink up that beer you overpaid for while you're at it.)  So Juanito leaves and waits outside till closing to try bothering her for a few words, but the bouncers block him.
    •

    • The boring birthday dinner’s small talk continues till Soccer Host wants to show off his new gun.  It seems the neighborhood where the business is located is a rather high-risk neighborhood.   Cannot be too careful these days.  Soon they’ll be moving out of their locale, but for now, he’s gonna sport some heat.  “--It’s so simple to use.  And, my family’s safety is worth it.” Soccer Buddy takes out his new favorite toy to show everybody.  “--Look, here it is.”  With that, he immediately becomes a poster boy for trigger locks and NRA/ IDPA training courses, not to mention how, once again, book sense and common sense many times remain 180 degrees apart.  The pistola goes off accidentally in his hand and Bidnez Partner is forthwith ushered up to that Big Office Park In The Sky. POW!!—Oops!! (Well, I guess that's one way to stir the soup and give it some spice.)
    •
    • No longer so boring, this disastrous dinner party is suddenly jettisoned into the dumpster.  Dead Accountant Dude’s wife screams accusations at her host in between her loud sobs and his deafening hysterical apologies and self recriminations.  Soccer Buddy screams hysterically it was an accident. The police are eventually called to the house.  Roberto tells the cops that all the witnesses there noted it was an accidental shooting in which someone was killed.  Soccer Buddy is taken to jail with the assurance that Rob will defend him.
    •
    • Meanwhile, Leonardo and Ricardo are sharing a couple of tragos at a nearby club.  They discuss Carlos’s constant attentions with Ale since leaving jail and that Ric cannot stand the guy.  Alonso refused to hire Carlos back when the firm was first started. It turns out that Alonso went with Ric, Victoria and Roberto instead. Carlos went out on his own and would undercut Alonso’s prices and built his practice that way. Now he’s trying to do the same by wooing Alejandra to work for him.  Not to mention ever since getting out of jail he’s constantly under foot at the firm, seeking every chance to get next to her. So, if Alonso wouldn’t take him into the firm…well, the guy makes Ric feel queasy hanging around the firm as much as he does.  Still and all, we learn that Ric the Brick’s love for Ale is solid as ever and it takes all the strength he can muster to keep away from her while she determines her true feelings. Leo advises Ric not to give up, even if he thinks they are getting married--bit of the good ol’ fashioned ‘All’s fair in love and war.’  Ric takes this under advisement but he worries about doing the same to Carlos as was done to him by Elena. (Perhaps our Elena needs to meet Charmin' Carlos at the next firm function??)
    •
    • Across town the next morning, Juanito’s mama says he’s been staying out way too late.  The firm shouldn’t abuse him this way.   She’s a mind to tell this Alonso to his face what she thinks.

    • Roberto’s late to the group convo.  He arrives, explains the situation and gets permission to represent his friend.  Juan informs the firm that he’s now located the club Patricia’s girlfriend works but has yet to get the chance at an interview.  Ale mentions that besides carrying Gus and Isabel’s divorce case, she’s got news that Carlos wants her to set up the paperwork for a new women’s shelter and foundation. Victoria volunteers to assist her with the project.  Alonso says the firm will support the organization.  The Ric’s gonna have that critter, Carlos, sniffing around Ale even more now and he’s bummed.  Ale looks over at Ric and he stares back at her, stone-faced.  (Hey, babe.  You wanted your space.  Well, now you got it.  Deal with it.)
    •
    • Speaking of Carlos, he’s expressing to cousin Al, that things are progressing well, especially in his relationship with Ale.  This new foundation of his is getting him back on her good side and with its creation he’ll be able to see her as often as he likes.  Oh yes, he knows her well.
    • Speaking of which, Vicki comes to speak to Ale about the new foundation and Ale mentions that Carlos has changed, is more attentive and caring about her and people in general—all the right things in life, yeah?
    •
    •  Ale tries getting time to meet with Ric and have a chat.  He makes continual excuses to avoid it and her.  She’s bummed—but not yet bummed enough to blurt out that she and Carlos are quits.

    • Leo advises Juan to go back to the strip club every night until he gets that chance to speak to Tatiana.

    • Ric stays again for dinner with the kids.  Elena believes it’s because he’s still got a twinge and a twinkle in his eye for her.

    • Gus meets with Lalo’s dad outside the child psychologist’s office.  Inside he shows tendencies of preferring his papi to his mama.
    •
    • Carlos returns to the jail to give his latest client the update on his case.  Mr. Big has a buddy who also needs a favor done.  (Ruh-roh!!  Visions of professional quicksand!)

    • Vicki wins her case for the abandoned girl looking for back child support.

Comments:
Why was the guy showing off the gun in the first place?

Why was Elena wearing a cheap negligee dress? Most of her fashions are on point. This one? No bueno.

The jerk with the gun was an old school friend of Roberto's. The actor is Adal Ramones who was previously on Plaza Sesamo and who hosted Bailando por un Sueno.

In my opinion, Elena is working her way to lingerie.

The gun death may have been accidental, but somehow I don't think he should get off scot-free, like he did nothing. He clearly was unqualified to handle that gun and someone died from his negligence. There should be repercussions for that. How can he demand that his friend's wife forgive him for killing her husband? The whole situation seems kind of off to me. What if maybe it wasn't so accidental?

I like that Alejandra is getting a taste of her own medicine, but she still hasn't distanced herself from Carlos. Is Ricardo also so dumb not to realize he's being manipulated by Elena?

Anon1146

Anon1146--Just MHO, I don't think it was an accident at all. It was too orchestrated. He invited his partner (new or not so new), a doctor and a lawyer to a birthday party. Where is everybody else? Surely a brash guy like him has dozens of "friends." And, Bobby was a last minute invitee. Taking a long shot (pardon the pun), maybe he didn't mean to actually kill his partner, but rather put him out of action for awhile. We'll have to wait and see.

[Jose Ron was only on screen for what, about 3 minutes and he gets a billing? They could have dragged someone out of the film crew to play that part--just like the Jesus Ochoa appearance, on screen for less time than it took to recognize him.]

OT, completely, but I have an annoying problem. I watch various channels on TV with some regularity. ONLY on Univision, at least on the 10 o'clock hour, the transmission is interrupted several times for a couple of seconds and the picture gets pixilated and the sound is garbled. Does anyone out there have a similar problem? And it's not the wind. This is EVERY night, but at different times. It rarely happens during commercials.

Jardinera: The title of the recap was perfect!

Thanks, Steve.

I have fixed all the typos, grammar errors etc. Hopefully it is now readable.

I wonder if Fanny, the doctor in the red (who was useless) or Berenice put the bullet in the gun to do away with Jose Ron?

More than readable. Entertaining. Who knew such a "serious" drama could engender so many guffaws in an episode. Excellent rendition, amiga.

Anon207--Do you mean that Jose Ron himself didn't know how many episodes he would last? (lol)

Anon 1146, ITA w/Anita that the shooting was DEFINITELY not an accident. In addition to the evidence she presented, Soccer Buddy made the point immediately afterward about "what a great job you (Roberto) did getting Carlos off." And did anyone else notice that SB immediately switched to past tense describing his friend -- "He was my associate, you know how much I loved him"? Usually it takes people several days to manage that after a traumatic death. In this case the ice hadn't even melted in his glass.

Anita, we used to have a similar TV hiccup every night around 10 when we lived in California...it turned out to be our neighbor coming home and using his garage door opener, which was somehow whispering to our cable box. Really.

Great recap, Jardinera! I absolutely love the title, and also "poster boy for trigger locks" and "Big Office Park in the Sky." And surely you must be right about Carlos teaming up with Elena eventually...it wouldn't be a telenovela otherwise!

Lunch break's over [[resoplando]].

With that, he immediately becomes a poster boy for trigger locks and NRA/ IDPA training courses, not to mention how, once again, book sense and common sense many times remain 180 degrees apart. The pistola goes off accidentally in his hand and Bidnez Partner is forthwith ushered up to that Big Office Park In The Sky. POW!!—Oops!! (Well, I guess that's one way to stir the soup and give it some spice.)

What a great paragraph Jardinera. Always enjoy your TakeNoPrisoners style. As for "accidental" well, we shall see. Certainly unfortunate, that's for sure.

Enjoying all the weasel ways Carlos is endeavoring to get back into Ale's heart (and maybe a few other places). He's a smart cookie and Rick the Brick is going to have to up his game if he wants to hold on to our princess.

Will look forward to watching this in between cooking and cleaning for a big birthday bash. No guns allowed however!

Well, just as Soccer Boy had a motive to do away with Jose Ron, so did Fanny (his wife). She could've wanted Jose Ron out of the picture to collect his half of the business with Soccer Boy. And if Soccer Boy went to jail, guess who would end up with the business?

Also, "The best doctor in Mexico" was useless and stood around like DUH. Did he even call the ambulance? Or did Berenice (Laura Carmine) call the ambulance?

I'm not here for Alejandra's weakness. Although she is a low down cheater and manipulative witch, at least Elena goes for what she wants.

Thanks, all!

Blue: Yep, I did catch the reference to Rob's DF Law reputation and briefly--only briefly--wondered, but I overlooked the past tenses during all the screaming, bawling and beseeching post pistola smokepuff. LOL! Guess I was in shock like the rest of his nodding-off dinner guests. I suppose the doc forgot his medical bag for this one--not that he could do much, considering the always miraculous telenovela accuracy of the bullet's tragic trajectory right through his idiot partner's heart.....

Anita/JudyB: I have to admit I was wondering what in the world I could do in recapping last night's episodio, yawner that it was. However, as you know, when the scripting gets this bad gems will fall and appear like mana from the heavens.

Urban: Soccer Buddy I think is some producer/actor--and screenwriter? from what little I got in IMBD. I don't/didn't watch the dancing with the stars program of his.

Carlos has great scheming talents, something Ric the Stiff Bric (a Brac) doesn't. If we didn't already know who couples up at the end, I'd put my money on Carlos--not that I'd like it.

Jose Ron needs to check in the mirror. I could hardly recognize him on that couch last night. What happened to his looks? Get rid of that bald n baddy look and give us some couch candy again, Uni!

I look for Carlos and Elena to hook up and kick Ric The Brick to the curb sooner than later. The way those two come sniffing around the office all the time they are certain to run into each other shortly.

Blue Lass, that's creepy. We don't have garages with automatic door openers, so I will have to look elsewhere for an explanation.

We've had that lately too Anita. Sometimes storms are the cause. Don't know what's up this time. Sylvia Sharkbait used to call it "color blocking". But this is the first time the audio has completely disappeared also.

Thanks, Jardinera.

Nice to see Jose Ron again, for a minute. ITA that that "accident" was a setup and the doctor is very suspicious for doing absolutely nothing.

Yeah, maybe Ale should take Carlos back. He's working so hard to win her back, by hook or crook. He's even a nice enough guy to pick up that magazine for the secretary who dropped it. Product placement so far: shoes and magazine.

Gracias, Jardinera.

The shooting scene also smelled like dead fish to me and I think that SB probably did set this up. That the doctor didn't have his bag would be normal if this was a social occasion (unless he's on call 24/7 or it's routine to carry one in case one is summoned for an emergency).

Does anyone know the gun laws in Mexico? If novelas have any accuracy about guns it's way too easy to obtain them there.

Why the hell hasn't Alejandra told anyone but her mother that she broke up with Carlos? It's high time the rest of the people in her life knew about it.

Susanna needs to face the fact that her son is an adult. If she were to go to Alonso about Juan's investigative assignments I hope he tells her that she needs to bugger off.

More in a bit.

SB said something about having to go through a lot of paperwork to get the gun permit. And Rob described the weapon to the arriving police as legally owned.

Another suspicious thing: when poor Jose Ron was being introduced, he said something to SB along the lines of, "Yeah, we've known each other since --" and SB cut him off. Someone should look into that. And also whether all of the other soccer buddies, who were supposedly "arriving later; you know how they are" were even invited...?

Jardinera, what a marvelous recap! So many great lines.
I especially loved "so The pistola goes off accidentally in his hand and Bidnez Partner is forthwith ushered up to that Big Office Park In The Sky", "No longer so boring, this disastrous dinner party is suddenly jettisoned into the dumpster" and "The Ric’s gonna have that critter, Carlos, sniffing around Ale even more now and he’s bummed".

This shooting is extremely suspicious.
First of all, when SH came to Roberto, he told him that he is inviting to the party all of the players that were on the school's soccer team. Now, I am not a big expert on soccer teams, but shouldn't they have more than 2 players?
Also, isn't it suspicious that a SH and Roberto didn't see each other since high school and now, at least 25 years later, Roberto the criminal law attorney is suddenly invited to a party in which SH fatally shoots his business partner?
In addition, why was the gun loaded? Guns are not sold pre-loaded, so he must have loaded it himself. To do so, he must have at least a certain knowledge of how to handle the gun. So how is it possible that he didn't understand that pointing a loaded gun at someone and squeezing the trigger will result in a discharge and someone could get hurt?

Irene

There is no way for Roberto to represent SH in this case. Roberto is a direct witness of the shooting. He is going to be interrogated by the police, just like any other witness in this case and if SH is charged, he will have to testify in court, and whether he is a witness for the prosecution or a witness for the defense, he cannot also represent the defendant.

Irene

A right to carry weapons can be found in article 10 of the Mexican Constitution, which draws its inspiration from the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution ("A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed").

This is the text of article 10 of the Mexican Constitution:
“Los habitantes de los Estados Unidos Mexicanos tienen derecho a poseer armas en su domicilio, para su seguridad y legítima defensa, con excepción de las prohibidas por la Ley Federal y de las reservadas para el uso exclusivo del Ejército, Armada, Fuerza Aérea y Guardia Nacional."

It says that Mexicans have a right to own weapons in their place of residence, for security and self-defense, with the exception of those prohibited by Federal law and those reserved for the exclusive use of the army, navy, air force and national guard.
It is very complicated to obtain a firearm license in Mexico.

So, Mexicans have a constitutional right to have weapons, but notice that the Constitution states clearly that weapons are to be own in the place of residence (domicilio), not anywhere else, so not in the office, or outside (at least according to the strict interpretation of the Constitution).

Irene

Am I the only naive to viewer to suspend reality enough see Soccer Buddy as just a careless fool?? Guess so!

Ley Federal de Armas de Fuego y explosivos expands article 10 of the Constitution and regulates the right to own weapons.

The important articles are :

Article 15 "En el domicilio se podrán poseer armas para la seguridad y defensa legítima de sus moradores. Su posesión impone el deber de manifestarlas a la Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional, para su registro". -Weapons in the place of residence shall be kept for the security and the self-defense of it's dwellers. They have to be declared to the Secretaria de la Defensa for their registeration.

Article 17:"Toda persona que adquiera una o más armas, está obligada a manifestarlo a la Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional en un plazo de treinta días. La manifestación se hará por escrito, indicando, marca, calibre, modelo y matrícula si la tuviera" -Whoever buys a weapon/s has to declare it within 30 days of purchase. The declaration is done in writing indicating model, serial number, caliber"

Article 26 states the conditions to be fulfilled in order to obtain a license to carry a weapon. It is a very long and detailed article. Conditions include honest mode of living, military service, no physical or mental impediment, no conviction for offense committed with a weapon, no use of drugs and a valid reason as to why a weapon is necessary, such as nature of work, special circumstances in the place of residence or any other justifiable reason.

So, SH needed to go through a very demanding process to actually obtain a license.

Irene

BTW, Irene, where did you pick up so much knowledge about the Mexican legal system? Certainly adds to the fun of watching!

I don't like Jose Ron so I'm unbothered that they gave him such little screen time. Glad to see Danna Garcia and Laura Carmine though.

That gun accident is not so accidental as Irene points out. I also have major doubts

Thanks Jardinera

Jardinera, almost everything can be found in the Constitution, Codigo Penal Federal, Codigo Civil Federal, Codigo Federal de Procedimientos Civiles and Codigo Federal de Procedimientos Penales. I am a lawyer, so I know what to look for and in which legal instrument I can find it.

However, I am not a Mexican lawyer, so there are a lot of things that I don't know, since I never studied Mexican law and have no access to Mexican jurisprudence and textbooks.

Irene

On a new note, who else suspects that the shelter Carlos is talking about will be the way he launders the money from El Ciego?

Omg!That thought crossed my mind Urban. And how poor unsuspecting Ale would get into so much trouble if that were to happen.

Omg Squared--That thought didn't cross my mind....he very well could; especially since I didn't catch that he wanted to start a foundation. I thought he was merely going to start with shelters and foundations to extend legal help to the women in need. He would need a woman there whom the women could trust, i.e. Ale.

Roberto already seems to be filing documents with the delegacion to get SB out of jail. So, my bet is that Bobby will be his defense lawyer, Codigo Penal o no. On the other hand, maybe Bobby will rethink this and feel SB is too hot a tamale to touch with a ten foot pole and sick Carlos on him. Hmmmmm.

Jardinera, lovely recap. The episode
Was abit nerve racking, and you know who I mean.
What is wrong with our little bobble head Alejandra? If Carlos has changed Miami is expecting a snow storm in the
Morning. She is too too too trusting of this man. Yes he does know how to
Pull her heart strings. Is she really that gullible? Yeah I can see her life In Danger because of carlos'connection with the mob.

A good title for this episode would be
"Stupidity with guns,and inexperienced
Gun owners". That was horrible and so
Unnecessary.I thing he was showin off
His shinny new toy and he didn't know
How to properly play with it. And it landed him in the poky. I don't know
About that man's wife, she looks like she's out for blood. But it Was an acc
ident, but oh boy what a mess.

Juanito needs to tell moma to stay out of his business(with love & respect) on His way out to move into his own place. Who on the patio thinks that will happen anytime soon?Show of hands

Who on the patio thinks Elena told the
Girl to ask papi brick to stay for din
din? Show of hands. Those kids are his
Weakness and she knows it. I hope he does and puts a stop to without hurtin
The youngins. It seems that he and ale
Are stuck with clingy exes. And their
Messes.
So carlos is upset with ric cuz alonso
Wouldn't hire him? Alonso hired RIC &
Vicky and robby. So he's jealous of ric
This Gonna get nasty yall. Carlos, the
Crooked judge, alan, elena,Mr big and his crew, yeah, good and nasty.

Thank Jardinera

Hands down, I really don't see Juanito moving out anytime soon,he's such a mama's boy. I actually see him tying the knot with Fer and all three of them living bajo el mismo techo.

Oh no, say it ain't so Ava!:-)

I'm lookin at last night's episode. The one where SB and the gang are at the party. The camara was stayin on soccer pals Face and he looked to be setting up places Where everybody was standing, this does Smell like a set up. And when he came around the bar he
Was pointing that gun nonchalantly at
His friend. Got him in the heart to
Make sure he was accidently killed on
Purpose. Looks like he murdered his friend and he had Witnesses, that it was accidental. NOT! What the hell kind of a friend is that doctor? He looks so Totally useless.

Thank you for the recap. I have been so busy W taxes and caretaking, that although I manage to watch the program, there has been no time for reading any recaps or comments.

Tonight was the first time in awhile, so it was so good to read the recap with perfect title. I enjoyed like a decadet dessert.

I get a kick out of Juan and "mamita." In a good way. I like their dialogue.

Although I am enjoying David Z and his cute children immensely. I have to admit, I am getting bored with family time. Especially, or maybe it's Elena, throwing herself on top of the family, play tickling or monsters.

The man who shot his friend looks like a conniver. I just can't watch Carlos getting involved with narcos. I guess because it will turn into typical novela where Alejandra gets kidnapped because of that and David Z and Alonzo to the rescue.

I don't know for sure of course, but maybe.

I have gotten used to Paula and think she gives her daughter good advise. I like how she deals with Carlos, especially when she let him know she will ALWAYS care more for her daughter than him. She is firm, direct in a class act kinda way.

Keep up with the great comments, it's like wine with dessert.

Thanks
