"MI FAMILIA":

I see that Erika & Jose are hitting it off. However his druggy Baby Mommy is upping the ante against the Guerrero family.

Daniela Wong (who portrays Alondra) is 28 years old.

Ana Maria Estupinan (who portrays Karina) is 26.

"ENEMIGO":

My personal thoughts:

1.) Nemesio was there when his thugs butchered Roxana's parents.

I cannot wait to see the look on her face when she realizes Nemesio had her parents whacked.

2.) Alex & Co., go off on Puenzo.

3.) The Good Guys rescue Mommy Puenzo & the kids.

4.) Biturie & his thugs get taken out.

5.) Roxana & Daniel deeper in the cocaine business & diamonds.

HALIMACANDY: Looks like the corrupt United States Senator from FL is plotting a campaign for the White House as he makes a deal with Roxana.

LADO - LUNES

Max keeps quiet about what happened to Rodrigo when he speaks with Eliza.

Fri is totally miserable after having to give it up to Johnny right after Tomás leaves.

Eliza interrupts Julián's attempt to have sex with Karina in her bedroom in Eliza's house.

After Lorena snarks to the team that Sofía must have had sex with Ernesto to get information, she tells what happened and we see it in a flashback. She got him drinking until he passed out, then took pictures of the girls in his briefcase and learned that the girls would arrive at Pier 24.

Lorena reveals herself as beneath contempt. She heard Cummings say it would be Pier 18, but doesn't tell the team.

Eliza is upset with Karina and they have a big row at breakfast about her accepting favors from Ernesto. Karina behaves like a brat and tells her mother she doesn't want to spend her life in a bakery, Eliza slaps her for the insult and is sorry for having done so.

Paula puts more stuff in Alo's preferred drink, lemonade. Alo sleeps in really late the morning after the party.

At the Interpol HQ Lorena suggests getting two girls on loan to trap Cummings and is shot down by Patrick and Richard.

Trejo arrived late at Casa Martinez with the passports and that's why things are delayed.

At Pier 18 Paula knows the FBI is at Pier 24 and sends Pastrana to delay them until they can get the girls away. A shootout results. Patrick is shot in the shoulder.

Lorena finally plays her hand as the heroine who's found the correct pier and calls Joel.

Eliza shows up at Casa Martinez and goes after Ernesto, telling him to stay away from her daughter and castigating him for what he did to Sofía. When he leaves for a second, Alejandra reveals herself telling Eliza to let it go. Eliza: "Sofía?"

When the plan fails, Paula tells her guys to kill the girls because they are witnesses.

Mauricio warns J-Low that Charlie has to be in a sterile environment after the transplant, which apparently took place.

Ernesto burns the passports in a BBQ.

The girls are saved by Richard and Joel.

Lorena tells Joel that Sofía gave them the wrong pier and spent hours with Ernesto and, once more, tells him Sofía killed his sister.

Ernesto tries to show Alo an appropriate boy and she tells him: "Soy del otro bando."

Thanks so much, novelera, for this excellent recap. It's admirably concise and yet captures everything.

Not only did Lorena let the guys go to the wrong pier even though she had more recent information, I think she was also the one who sent the message to Paula warning that the FBI was at pier 24. (Right after Paula gets the message, we see Lorena sitting in the car holding and looking at her cell phone.)

Was Patrick shot in the shoulder? He kept putting his hand on his ear, which made me think that the bullet grazed his ear. Oh well, it doesn't really matter. They made it clear that he wasn't seriously injured, it was "just a scratch" (rasguño), although it was serious enough to take him to the hospital.

Speaking of hospitals, Dr. Pedroza somehow sneaks Charlie into the hospital, performs the bone marrow transplant, and then tells Jennifer that they can't stay long because no one knows what he has done and they may start asking questions. Huh? They wouldn't have asked questions at the start??

So apparently by saying Soy del otro bando Alondra is announcing that she is gay. It's not clear whether Ernesto understood her.

Lado

excellent summary novelera and great comments Juanita!

Lorena sure knows how to wreck what would have been a GREAT show, rounding up all the bad guys, then tops it off by pouring pure poison in Joel's ear, boo!

loved watching Ernesto burning passports in his BBQ, with the ashes landing in his hair.

LADO

Juanita

You are so spectacular posting your concise recap so rapidly. It was so encompassing and hit all the highlights.

I must say that Joel's macho FBI sharpshooter guy's portrayal was impressive. It was the first time I've actually liked his character.
Man-oh-man, is Lorena not one of the most despicable villians we've seen in a while? To put young, pertified girls in danger just to advance her interests is contemptible and beyond belief.

Why do the novela writers always portray the galáns as gullible, stupid, and dimwitted men?

"LADO":

Juanita: Are you convinced Lorena is the spy all along ?

Victoria: I'm getting the sense Lorena is involved in the sinister conspiracy.

Ernesto burning the passports in the BBQ is only the beginning. He badly wants to be President of the United Mexican States.

"ENEMIGO":

HALIMACANDY: The corrupt United States Senator from FL forms an alliance with Roxana.

LADO

Steve & Juanita

Wow it never crossed my poor little brain that Lorena could be in on the conspiracy and have called Paula to warn her. That's such an unexpected turn of events, that I'm definitely going to rewatch the whole port/pier take down again.

Juanita you are amazing to have picked up on Lorena being in her car and calling Paula. She hates Sofia so much, I wouldn't put anything past her. There's nothing like a women scorned!

You guys let me know if I should add Lorena to our Spy Tally.

Steve
Thank you so much for mentioning the China/DR news. The DR went from Trujillo to big time gambling and banking corruption. The Country will never be the same. Once it was a paradise, now it's another Narco-land like so many other countries. Maybe that's one reason that Narco-novelas are so popular for Telemundo.

On Telemundo's site this novela is listed as a "Series" not a Telenovela. Does this mean it will turn into another Señor del Cielo or Señora Acero nonstop TV series?

Hello to everyone!. This was a great episode. Hopefully, the writers keep it up.

👋

"LADO":

Victoria: Please put Lorena on the Spy List because her body language said it all last night.

Lado and General

Victoria, novelera was the person who put up the recap you rightly praised. I simply thanked her for doing so and added some comments.

Also, though I do think Lorena sent the message to Paula warning her that the FBI was at Pier 24, I do NOT think that Lorena was "in on the conspiracy." And so no, I do not think you should add her name to a list of spies. I think she's acting solely to do in Sofía, whom she sees as a serious rival for Joel's affection. She is not in cahoots with Cummings/Paula/Ernesto/Pastrana, et al.

One more thing. Please remember to put the name of the novela you're discussing at the top of each message. In the message in which you mention China/DR news, you also say "On Telemundo's site this novela is listed as a "Series" not a Telenovela." Which novela are you talking about? I hope it's not Lado. I don't know about you, but I'll be glad to be rid of most of these characters at the end of the novela. A second series? No thanks!

Lado:

Novelera, thank you for the concise yet comprehensive recap.

Max is now an accessory after the fact to all the crimes committed by that Doctor and Jennifer. I can't understand why he caved to Jennifer's demands yet again and I don't really care. If before, I thought his anvil should be losing Eliza, now I can't imagine an ending without him going to jail for a very long time. Even if nothing happens to Rodrigo physically, a severe emotional damage was done to him, something that can cripple him for life. Max is a criminal for not stopping that doctor from further harming Rodrigo.

I wonder how they will be able to prevent Eliza from finding out. The recovery from old style bone marrow harvesting is very tough and surely she will notice that her child is in pain. And then, there is the issue of antibiotics. Who is going to make sure that a 10 year old child takes his antibiotics on time?

And why Charlie's operation happened immediately after Rodrigo's when the doctor said in an earlier episode that it takes time to prepare bone marrow for a transplant (I think he even mentioned that Charlie's operation will be a week after Rodrigo's). And there is no way the administration of the hospital wouldn't know that a bone marrow transplant was performed. The transplant requires and O.R and the use of equipment and personnel. Surely, someone would have noticed that an O.R was booked for a procedure.
And why couldn't the doctor have operated on Rodrigo in the same hospital, the way he operated on Charlie?

Irene

General:

Juanita: I was talking to Victoria about the diplomatic crisis regarding Dominican Republic ditching Taiwan in favor of PRC.

Second, I still think Lorena likely did more than give Paula a heads up about the FBI was heading to Pier 24. Her hostility towards Sofia will escalate.

"LADO":

Irene: Eliza is going to find out what happened to Rodrigo at some point once Charles (if he recovers from the transplant) opens his mouth. Once she finds out, Deadbeat Max better finding a place in France to live because when Mommy isn't happy....

Lado:

A love interest of the galan suddenly turning evil to pave way for a love story with the protagonista is a known telenovela trope, but I found it hardly believable that a trained and presumably moral agent like Lorena (that specializes in rescuing women from human trafficking and apparently was doing her job impeccably well for many years ) would all of a sudden not give a damn about the girls and would be willing to sacrifice them just to get Sophia out of her way. It's just too much evil out of the blue. Also, I doubt she would be risking Joel's life that way. He could have been killed because of her actions and she must have known that.

Irene

Lado

Irene, I agree 100% about Lorena's behavior. It was despicable. It appears to me that, in addition to wanting to take down Sofía, she wants to appear as a heroine to Joel. This would explain her piping up in the meeting that she wanted two little girls to pretend to be her children so as to somehow catch Pedophile Cummings in the act. Richard and Patrick rightly refused to put little girls at risk.

Her next and concurrent move was to make it look like Sofía gave the wrong pier number and then to go herself to the right pier and look like a heroine for alerting the team to the correct place to save the children. Fortunately for her, dead-eye Pastrana with his automatic rifle on a tripod wasn't able to do any serious harm. Nor were the 4 or 5 other guys who were shooting at the Interpol/FBI team. But Lorena didn't know that. She could have gotten everyone else on the team killed.

As I said before, beneath contempt. Believable? Probably not. But we have to remember that telenovelas are all about love triangles. And real police work and real trials in courtrooms are beyond their ability to write well.

"LADO":

Novelera: Lorena is all about "Me, Myself & I". She's on my Karma List!

"LADO":

Juanita: I'll be looking forward seeing your recap.

Enemigo:

Too bad for Puenzo that when he was trying to argue with Buitre not to take one of his kids for a new "child" of Nemesio, Buitre said something like "I'm no saint, and why should I help you, you **** rat for the Oscuros". Alex, Olivia and David heard that, and since Puenzo then killed Buitre when Alex ordered him not too, they know he did it to silence Buitre. So they're giving Puenzo one chance to avoid jail, but turning in Fermin. Little do they know that Fermin is Puenzo's cousin!

"ENEMIGO":

Plus, Roxana is working with the corrupt United States Senator from FL in his campaign for POTUS in 2020.

"You're just like Roxana", Olivia tells Alejandro.

Al Otro Lado del Muro - Capítulo 49 .Parte 1/3

Let me start by saying that I found this episode rather annoying. I think almost a third of it consisted of flashbacks to earlier episodes. I guess the writers had a massive case of writer's block.

We start by again seeing Joel questioning Lorena and Lorena planting poison about Sofía into Joel's ear, ending with the by now tiresome "reminder" that Sofía killed his sister.

The scene shifts to the seedy clinic where Rodrigo is recovering from his horrific experience donating bone marrow. Max asks how he's feeling. "So so." Rod wants to know how Charlie is. Max assures him Charlie is doing well. The doctor has left some iron that he wants Rod to take. With considerable difficulty, Rod sits up to take the iron pill with some water. He doesn't want Max to tell Eliza what happened; it will be a secret between Max and him. Max asks him whether that's what Jennifer told him. Yes, says Rod, but he also doesn't want his mother to worry. Max says he's going to have to tell Eliza, but he doesn't know how. Rod suggests they say that he (Rod) went to the house of terror and fell on his butt.

At Ernesto's, Alondra is explaining that yes, she is gay. Ernesto thinks she's saying this just to annoy him. Alondra reminds him of all the times he called her a tomboy (marimacho) when she was younger, and she tells him that at school, her classmates call her Mister Taco [huh?]. Ernesto still resists accepting what she's telling him. Alejandra, however, says that Alo is very intelligent and knows what she wants, although at times she has very peculiar ways of expressing herself. Alo smiles.

Lorena has apparently gained access to Alejandra's apartment. She wanders about the apartment, remembering in detail the past conversation with Joel when he told her he was in love with Sofía. [Yawn] I think at the end she takes out her cell phone and remembers sending the message about the FBI being at Pier 24. As she's roaming about the apartment, Lorena gets a phone call from Sara Foster: "Where's my one million dollars?" asks Sara. "I sold you my story and I want my money." Lorena tells her she doesn't have time to talk to her now, she'll get back to her. .She takes out the cell phone she used to send the message about the FBI being at Pier 24. The message is still on the phone. She looks around the room and then hides the phone on a chair under some kind of cover.

Joel and Richard talk. Joel asks about Patrick. Richard tells him that the doctors say we have to wait. [I thought the wound was supposed to be nothing more than a scratch.] Joel then asks about the rescued girls. Richard replies that they're in bad condition. They were badly beaten and raped, but they're expected to recover. Agents from Child Services are with them and will return the girls to their families as soon as the families are located. .The conversation then shifts to the rescue attempt, and the fact that the Bad Guys had snipers in position just waiting for the FBI. Richard thinks "we were betrayed by one of us." Joel asks who he has in mind. Richard replies, "Lorena." Richard doesn't buy Lorena's account of getting lost and just by accident winding up at Pier 18 where all the kidnapped girls were being held.

Eliza tells Andrés about her fight with Karina and her fear that Karina will wind up marrying Julián. "But they've just met," says Andrés. "Yes," says Eliza, "but that's what I did when my mother opposed my relation with Max."
Eliza also mentions that she saw Alejandra at the Consul's house, and just for a moment, Eliza thought she was Sofía. [We then get a flashback of the scene. Yawn.] .Andrés observes, "Perhaps you wanted it to be her."

Lado - Cap. 49 Parte 2/3

Alejandra looks through the ashes of the BBQ where Ernesto burnt the passports of the kidnapped girls. She finds a fragment of one of the passports, but she lets it fall back into the BBQ pit. Ernesto appears and says they have a matter pending. He comes close to her and seems about to kiss her when Paula comes on the scene and tells Ernesto that she needs to see him alone.

Alejandra returns to her apartment. She gets a call from Richard telling her that Patrick is in "intensive therapy," whatever that means. There's a knock at the door. It's Joel. He wants her to explain what's going on between Ernesto and her. She tries to explain, but spurred on by Lorena's insinuations, he keeps asking more questions.

While Joel is persistently questioning Sofía/Alejandra, Richard is questioning Lorena. He asks her about her presence at Pier 18. Lorena is annoyed and tells him that he should be interrogating Sofía, not her.

Rodrigo and Max arrive at Eliza's. She recognizes that Rod is walking very stiffly. Rod offers his story about falling on his butt in the house of terror, but Eliza wants to examine him. Max tries to discourage her from doing so, but she insists, and she and Rod go off to the bedroom.

Charlie is still in the hospital, with Jennifer perched right outside the transparent enclosure that presumably provides some measure of a sterile environment. Charlie asks her why everything has to be so hidden, and why Rod had to be treated at such a run-down place whereas Charlie gets to be in the hospital. Jennifer has no answer except that's what had to be. She tells him the most important thing is that he's going to live. "Your brother saved your life." Charlie replies, "If I had known what they were going to do to Rod, I would have preferred to die."

Karina and Julián seem to be in some rather high-class hotel that gives them an impressive view over Los Angeles. Karina is thrilled, but as Julián gazes out the window with her, he has a flashback to the party where Valerie jumped from the balcony and died. When Karina asks him what's wrong, he claims to have experienced a bit of vertigo.

Joel finds the cell phone that Lorena planted in Alejandra's apartment and sees the message. [Flashback to his finding the cell phone on which Alejandra sent Alo a message that her mother was innocent.]

Richard continues his interrogation of Lorena. He tells her he is not going to send agents to search Sofía's house without any proof and without a warrant. He tells Lorena that everyone is under suspicion, including her and him. The matter has now been turned over to Internal Affairs. "If there's something suspicious in Sofía's, Internal Affairs will find it" [looks like Joel got there first].

A furious Cummings demands to know why Paula gave the order to shoot at the FBI. The last thing Cummings wants is to call attention to their operation. Paula explains that it was the only way to sever any connection between the consulate and them and the girls. She assures him that the FBI has no proof, and the girls don't know who we are. Cummings wants to know who called the FBI. Cummings suspects Pastrana, whom he doesn't like. Paula says no, Pastrana has been trustworthy for twenty years. She also assures Cummings that she has gotten rid of all traces, there's no evidence of their involvement. Cummings insists they have to kill the traitor, whoever it is. They ask a very drunk Ernesto whether he has any idea. He replies, "Alejandra."

Lado Cap. 49 Parte 3/3

Alo calls Alejandra and arranges to have her come to photograph a fútbol practice the next day. She also says she wants to talk to Alejandra about another matter. Before she can say more, Margarita comes in with food and a glass of (probably drugged) drink. Alo tells her that she misses Eliza, Karina, Tomás, and Rodrigo. They're her family, and they accept her for who she is. Margarita asks why Alo came to live at the consul's. Alo replies, "I want to know the truth about my past, about my mother, and, above all, I want to know who I really am."

Eliza tells Max that she doesn't like it that he hid from her what happened with Rodrigo. What did he tell you, asks Max. Nothing, replies Eliza. He wouldn't even let me examine him. Max tries to turn the conversation to Eliza's problem with Karina. [Flashback of the argument between Karina and Eliza leading up to the slap.] Eliza says she doesn't like Julián. She feels he's hiding something very dark.

Meanwhile, Julián and Karina look as if they're on their way to Doing The Deed, but suddenly Jullán has another flashback to the disastrous party with Valerie, and he remembers going to bed with Valerie as he's trying to do with Karina. Not surprisingly, he can't perform.

Paula and Cummings press Ernesto to say more about Alejandra. "She's going to be my wife and the mother of my children," he replies. Fed up, they try to get him to focus on important matters. He informs them that Alejandra is more important than their dirty business. Cummings is furious. "Get that drunkard out of my sight!" he demands. He tells Paula that Ernesto is clearly out of control, and Cummings may have to call Don Carlo and tell him that they need to find a new candidate. Paula tries to calm Cummings down. He tells her she should interrogate Pastrana, and if he's the traitor, kill him.

Max and Eliza continue to talk. He offers to speak with Karina, but Eliza tells him that would just make matters worse. He finally asks her what she feels about him. "Te amo" she replies as the episode ends.

"LADO":

Juanita: You've really outdone yourself in this recap. Amazing!

Eliza is going to examine Rodrigo at some point despite his refusals & she noticed he was walking stiff. Hmmm: only a matter of time before she finds out what happened to him.

My advice to Deadbeat Max: You better find yourself a country to live like France because when Eliza finds out......

"LADO":

Spanish Student: Alondra is a lesbian ?

Lado

wow Juanita, you really dug out all the details on this one, thank you so very much!

I'm willing to concede that Sofia is guilty (again) if we could just move on, this latest girl rescue is just a replay of the first one where Sofia got the info from Ermesto, with the Feds raiding her ranch and the important bad guys getting away.

this wasn't clear, but I'm guessing the boy-in-a-bubble setup with Charlie is at home, since the Doc said he had to leave, and she assured him everything would be very sterile.

hmm, so Karina was going to..., I think she is a bit dazzled by the rich life, say, didn't Eliza tell her not wanting to do what her mother did driving her to a man she didn't like story, also to Max, ha!

Lado

hmm, Eliza's world is all about family, and where has that gone since Max came back into her life, Rod has made a secret pact with Jen, Karina is off with Ernesto's son, Tomas is a mule for the local gang and chasing a girl who is definitely not in high school, Alo has stepped into the lions den, and is being drugged to insanity, and Carmen is away to comfort Raquel,

it's nice that Andreas is there for her.

Lado

Thanks muchly, deb, for your appreciative and very interesting remarks. When I wrote the recap, I wondered whether Charlie was still in the hospital or at home. I thought I remembered Charlie's saying he was in the hospital, but that might have referred to the short time when they actually did the transplant. But all the medical paraphernalia (not to mention the bubble set-up) also suggested to me that he was still in the hospital, since not all that much time had passed, AFAIK, since the transplant, and it would have been too soon for Jennifer to have arranged for and obtained and installed everything at home. Then again, this is Telenovela World, which operates on Telenovela Time, which (as we know) often bears very little resemblance to normal time. :-)

Great point about Eliza's world, which has always revolved around the family, going awry since Max came back into the picture.

Juanita that was a splendid recap! You got it all and with great side comments.

I’ve seen this movie before. About 3/4 through many of their novelas they start up with heavy flashbacks. I really don’t know why. It could be that the replacement novela is taking longer to cast or record and they need to stretch the current 9:00 show. Or they think we’re dumb and can’t remember certain key plot points from one day to the next.

I’m glad you cleared up what I didn’t understand. For one thing they wasted an enormous amount of time with Lorena wandering around Sofía’s apartment doing nothing. Because I cannot read text messages on phones held up on the screen by actors I never understand what is going on. I was mystified by the phone Lorena put there, whether she’d managed to text something incriminating to Sofía which would reveal that she herself had sent it in an investigation.

We can be thankful for Richard. Aside from his feelings for Sofía, he has worked with her for several years and doesn’t believe for a minute that she was ever involved with child trafficking nor is she now.

I could have punched Joel. For one thing, IIRC Lorena snarked in that meeting about what Sofía did all that time in Ernesto’s bedroom and Sofía explained to everyone that she got him drunk. Then, when he passed out, she spent the time photographing the girls’ pictures and getting the information about Pier 24. So where does he get off showing up unannounced at her apartment and having a jealous rant. And asking things that had already been answered. Again, poor writing.

So I expect he’s going all out against Sofía again, playing right into Lorena’s hands.

So Karina’s virginity lives for another day. I was NOT happy about Julián taking her to a hotel.

I have a feeling Max has just finished his chances with Eliza. He told Rodrigo at the clinic that he was going to tell her the truth; but, as usual he wimped out and let his brave son lie.

I despise Cummings, but I did enjoy his chewing Paula out. And, saying he’d get Don Carlos to support another candidate because of Ernesto’s alcoholism seems to imply that crooked politicians running for President of Mexico abound.

Lado

ah yes, the phone Lorena left in Sofia's apt, with a duplicate message tipping Paula off to the FBI at pier 24, hmm, well doesn't it have Lorena's finger prints all over it, (and the time sent) and none of Sofia's, and now Joel's smearing the evidence, hmm, what will he do with it, he kind of left rather abruptly.

"LADO":

Novelera: I NEVER liked DEADBEAT Max because he's a WIMP, PUSSY & WEAKLING! He IS Jennifer's BITCH: caving to her demands of everything.

Don't get me started on Steven because he's complicit as well in what happened to poor Rodrigo (who I see likely having physical problems later on in the TN).

Deb: Lorena is smooth in pinning everything on Sofia. She's one jealous BITCH!

Lado

I'd like to elaborate on what Max did. The right thing to do was to tell Eliza that Jennifer conspired to take Rodrigo to a clinic to extract his bone marrow. And that Charlie called to alert him of what was going on. He arrived too late to stop it, as the doctor had already (as I remember what happened) put something into Rodrigo's back and it would have done more harm than good to stop at that point.

He could then abase himself apologizing for what happened to Rodrigo. Eliza could then decide to blame him or not. It really is all evil Jennifer's doing, anyway. If Charlie hadn't called, he'd never have even known. I think Jennifer's plan was never to tell anyone about the bone marrow transplant - that Charlie just had a miracle cure. And this only after a suitable time elapsed when she kept convincing Max not to divorce her because of poor, dying Charlie.

But covering this up, in my view, has finished things for them as a couple.

Steve, watch your language.

Lado:

Juanita, thank you for such an amazingly detailed recap. It was perfect from start to finish.
I especially loved this very eloquent line: "We start by again seeing Joel questioning Lorena and Lorena planting poison about Sofía into Joel's ear, ending with the by now tiresome "reminder" that Sofía killed his sister".

You are probably right about major writers block afflicting the writers of this telenovela. They are really struggling to come up with original storylines and it shows!

This Max really is the most nauseatingly cowardly character on this telenovela. He was so relieved that Rod doesn't want Eliza to know about the bone marrow harvesting and therefore he doesn't have to tell her the truth that he almost jumped for joy. I don't understand how he can keep putting his son's health at risk like that. This child is supposed to take antibiotics and vitamins, who is going to make sure that he does that? And what about wound care? And post op check ups? And what about psychological help for the terrible trauma he suffered? Even Charlie understood that Rodrigo shouldn't have been operated on in that back alley clinic and that what was done to him is criminal, so how come Max just moved on as if nothing happened?
He needs an anvil now! Jennifer is a villain, so it is not surprising that she doesn't care whom she hurts to achieve her goal, but Max is supposed to be a galan.
And where the hell is Steve? Why didn't he tell Eliza about Jennifer's crazy plan involving Eliza's 10 year old son? He is supposed to be a decent guy madly in love with Eliza, so how come he didn't come forward regarding Jennifer's plan.

.BUT THANKS FOR THE body count, you will, not have enough room in a couple of years...

I wonder what series silvia will be in.. does she pop up in SIN SUENOS!!!!

Lado:

It is very hard for me to suspend disbelief about Lorena suddenly becoming an evil criminal that would be willing to risk have Joel, the other agents and the girls killed just to frame Sophia. And isn't it strange that she feels no remorse at all that Patrick was severely injured because of what she did? It's as if out of the blue she became a complete sociopath.
And all that because of a break-up with a dimwitted Joel? Not likely, but it is a telenovela after all, so I will try to adjust my beanie and keep watching.

"MI FAMILIA":

Deb: Looks like Erika & Jose could be a possible item down the road. However, Ashley (Drug addict Baby Mommy) is upping the ante against the Guerrero's.

Sounds like Lorena loves being a cold-hearted narcissist.

Lado

Many thanks, novelera, for your wonderful comments. I'm not surprised that you had trouble following the scene with Lorena in Alejandra's apartment. All she does is wander around aimlessly for several minutes of screen time, accompanied only by one of the episode's many needless flashbacks. The scene screamed "PADDING!!"

As for Joel, the theme music seems to be trying to suggest that he and Sofía are meant for each other, but he's much too pigheaded and stupid for me to buy that. IMHO, his character is one of the novela's biggest failures.

In your follow-up message, you do a great job of setting out what Max should have done re Rodrigo. His failure to do that, coming on top of so many earlier failures, seems a clear sign that he won't end up with Eliza. In fact, I don't think he'll be alive at the end of the novela. I think it was the Russian dramatist Chekhov who said that if a gun is hanging on the wall in Act I, it should be fired before the play ends. Several times Max has said that he would give his life for Charlie. IMHO, that's a gun that will/should be fired before the novela ends.

"LADO":

Juanita: I doubt Steven will be around either.

Lado

Irene, thanks very much for your appreciative remark and your compelling comments. I was especially impressed with your impassioned discussion of all the problems that have so far been swept under the rug: "This child [Rod] is supposed to take antibiotics and vitamins, who is going to make sure that he does that? And what about wound care? And post op check ups? And what about psychological help for the terrible trauma he suffered? Even Charlie understood that Rodrigo shouldn't have been operated on in that back alley clinic and that what was done to him is criminal...." Wow! I can't wait to see whether these will be acknowledged and, if so, how they'll be dealt with.

I was also impressed with your follow-up message about the presentation of Lorena. Do the names of the novela's writers appear in the credits? If so, I for one am tempted to make note of them and avoid their novelas in the future.

Enemigo:

Yes, Daniel isn't on board anymore, because he was just doing everything for Alex, and now he knows Alex used torture on Roxana. He agrees to carry a device that will vibrate 20 minutes before Alex will call him, but is told they won't track him (which apparently is a lie). So we see that the cops use a lot of dishonest and questionable methods. So in a way, both sides are bad, except that their ultimate goals are quite different. The drug gangs want to make money, no matter what the law is, and they'll kill to achieve their goals. The cops aren't perfect, but they're working for the public, to prevent killings, right? And they didn't kill Fermin, they arrested him. He would definitely have killed them if given the chance. So I think Daniel is wrong to think both sides are the same. As are Roxana and Nemesio, who sort of think what they're doing is okay. Roxana wants to just earn "clean" money eventually. She said the other day that the diamond business was clean, but wasn't it blood diamonds (mined from war zones to back insurgencies)? And now she's working with a corrupt Senator, a corrupt builder, come on, how can she (or Daniel) really think this is defensible?

BTW, I am more and more leaning to think that Roxana is the Professor, which Deb said long ago (and others have also said).

I'll try and do the recap tonight.

Lado #50 1/2

Joel gives the "phone" (he found in Sofia's place) to Ortega, (not sure who he is) confidential, wants to know everything there is to know about this phone.

Karina (at the hotel with Julian) wants to go home, she is upset Julian rejected her, he wants another try, nope.

Eliza gets Rod up for school, he wants to stay home, nope, but trying to walk to the shower, he falls.

the A team meet at Richard's office, it's Internal Affairs interrogation day, yep they all give their stories as we know them, Sofia's is weak because she has no proof, Ernesto burned the passports in front of you and you didn't stop him?, hmm, brings back the question why Richard has a civilian working for him.

Tomas kids with Karina about Julian, gone all the way yet?, she gets upset, off to school, Eliza stops Karina, we need to talk later, not argue, I want to understand your viewpoint, and you mine,

Paula and Pastrana talk, Cummings wants the traitor, thinks it's you, Paula wishes she could pin it on Alejandra, but... and they don't have much time, she tells Pastrana to get one of his guys to confess.

the bulls, Richard and Joel chat, can we be mature here?, Richard thinks it might be Lorena, Joel says he doesn't trust Sofia anymore but won't say why, they both accuse the other of not separating their personal lives from work, and trying to get closer to Sofia, ah but Richard says he has, Joel counters because he is Sofia's manager, Richard throws in how Joel suspects Sofia, but he seeks her out again, again, and again.

Steve talks to Santiago and Andreas about the slow wheels of justice, ah but I think he's arranged a meeting with Raquel, 5 minutes was it.

Steve asks about Eliza, she took Rod to the docs, sick, nope, spent the weekend with Charlie and Jen, some kind of accident, Steve remembers Jen wanting to do the bone marrow transplant without telling Elisa.

a new Doctora takes a look at Rod, he sticks to his story, she sees it was a bone marrow harvest, tells Eliza.

Richard and Joel spend there spare time watching Sofia in Ernesto's office, Ernesto moves in for a kiss, he wants to finish what they started, she struggles, I love my husband, finally escapes out into the hallway, surrounded with other people.

(hmm, one of the filler scenes a car stops at Lorena St.) deep.

Lado #50 2/2

Karina and Alo talk by their lockers at school, the bad girls show and call her Mr. Taco, Alo talks of getting some red and spicy sauce out of her nose, Karina moves between them.

Santiago with Maria meet Raquel and Carmen at the wall, as Santiago goes back to the car to feed Maria a coyote appears, will take Raquel across for $5000, Raquel is interested but Carmen chases him away.

Alo dresses for soccer, takes an interest in another girl dressing, while one of the bad girls watches, on the field Alo looks pretty sharp, Sofia with a long lens snaps some pretty good shots, ah but Alo is fouled to the ground, she's ok but a cheerleader comes and comforts her, hmm, Sofia is wondering about her remark, that she plays for the other team.

Karina swings by the docs to pick up a very quiet Rod.

Eliza swings by to see Jen, POW, right in the face, can we see that again?

ooo, Eliza was on a roll, she will file a report, Jen will go to prison and will lose Charlie, (who is listening from his bubble), but then Jen throws in the Max Factor, he knew all about it, do you think he got close to you because he loved you so much? "WE" even planned giving you the engagement ring, and of course Jen will report her to ICE, and of course Rod will stay here, SLAM goes the door as Eliza leaves, Jen is on the phone to Max, she tried to kill me.

Steve is hanging around the bakery waiting for Eliza, she isn't answering her phone, Andreas notices that he is nervous, he finally leaves.

the Internal Affairs guys leave, Lorena wants to know if she is still a suspect, Richard repeats he can't say anything till the investigation is over,and what happens if they decide someone is a traitor, it's quick, the FBI like to make an example of them.

foiled that the phone hasn't turned up, Lorena wants Sofia's place searched, Richard reminds her, who would have evidence in their home while they are being investigated,

Lore calls Sara, arranges for her to come to LA to meet the editors (Sara is still expecting the million and editors)

Eliza is at the cop shop, "I want to make a report".

Max arrives home, the place is a wreck, and Jen is totally beat up... (hmm, maybe it was Charlie)

Lado

deb, what a delightful recap! I especially loved the humor. I burst out laughing at "POW, right in the face, can we see that again?" and at "then Jen throws in the Max Factor." And your perfect ending: "(hmm, maybe it was Charlie)" I wish the novela were as clever as your recap. ¡Muchísimas gracias!

LADO

Deb

The "Max Factor". That is so funny. I loved it and will try NOT to remember it since MF is my absoutely favorite makeup.

I think that during their little macho conversation Joel told Richard that he chose to be Sofia's wife, so now Richard has Sofia right where he planned.

Your recap was delightful, thank you.

"LADO":

Deb: I couldn't resist laughing at your "It's Internal Affairs Investigation Day" ROFLOL.

Victoria: Not shocked about Jennifer calling ICE on Eliza. I KNEW it was bound to happen sooner or later once Eliza went Muhammad Ali on her EXPLETIVE.

LADO

Steve

I was surprised though to see Eliza overcoming her deportation fear and filing a police report against Jennifer.

Eliza got a head's up on Jennifer's threat. So, I'm not sure whether or not she believed Jennifer's version of cowardly, spineless, etc., etc., Max's participation in sucking bone marrow out of Rodrigo. Eliza had those particular flashbacks that seemed to reinforce Jennifer's story.

It will be interesting to read throughout the day what others have to say.

I thought Eliza probably fell for it because Jennifer fit his previous encounters with Max to a "T".

This novela is certainly flowing much better than PASL and is a little bit more suspenseful, IMHO.

LADO

TEAM ELIZA.

YES..!!...POW , SMACK, BUST, CLOCK, STOMP, AND PUT HEIFER IN CHECK.....

Deb, thank you for such a wonderful recap, with soo many fantastic lines and such a humorous tone to it. I join Juanita, Victoria and Steve in praising such clever and funny lines as "it's Internal Affairs interrogation day" and "Max factor".

I loved this new and improved fierce Eliza who is ready to fight for her child and I cheered when she slapped Jennifer and reported her to the police.

Jennifer is really just crazy. To torture a child and risk his life instead of simply asking Eliza for permission (which she must know Eliza would have given) is insane.

And what did she beat herself up for? If it is to frame Eliza and thus avoid being investigated for her crimes against Rodrigo, it is useless, because both investigations will run parallel and even if Eliza is jailed or deported, the authorities will still investigate and prosecute Jennifer and the doctor.
She committed several serious criminal offences and being beat up by the victim's mother is not going to change that fact. The D.A is not going to drop charges because of the beating.

It is a criminal offense to traffic body parts, or perform transplants from any source not legally affiliated with a hospital or other medical facility.
In addition, she is guilty at the very least of aggravated battery, child abduction (and maybe even kidnapping) and child endangerment, also known as “child abuse” as per article 273a. of the California Penal code:
"Any person who, under circumstances or conditions likely to produce great bodily harm or death, willfully causes or permits any child to suffer, or inflicts thereon unjustifiable physical pain or mental suffering, or having the care or custody of any child, willfully causes or permits the person or health of that child to be injured, or willfully causes or permits that child to be placed in a situation where his or her person or health is endangered, shall be punished by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year, or in the state prison for two, four, or six years."

This is enough to send her to prison for years. And proving her guilt will be a piece of cake.

Justice system will work like it should.

So glad Eliza socked Jen in her face....she deserves more but hopefully that will come when shes in jail.

Victoria: Eliza had a Muhammad Ali Moment & sucker-punched J-Low right in the nose ROFLOL.

Now I'm wondering how far will J-Low go into destroying Eliza's family ? Could we see law enforcement arresting Tomas for drug trafficking ? I mean he's so far gone down the rabbit hole, it's not even funny.

Karina: don't get me started on her because she might get deported too.

"LADO":

I know where Alex is coming from about several of his officers getting gunned down by Roxana's hired thugs (I'm afraid the face-to-face confrontation between the siblings will NOT end well here), but Trevor did WARN him not to investigate because he had no extradition in the States.

Lado

Deb, you rock. That was one terrific and funny recap. Thank you so much!

I kept expecting Alondra to faint on the soccer field from the drug Paula is putting in her lemonade.

I got a laugh about the way one line in deb's recap appeared on my screen:

"as Santiago goes back to the car to feed Maria a coyote"

The next line starts with "appears"; but it sure looks like Santiago and Raquel's baby has a hearty appetite!

If Max believes that Eliza did more to Jennifer than punch her in the nose, he's an idiot.

Lorena can't wait for the phone to be found in Sofía's apartment, but Joel has it. I have some hope that Joel's guy from Interpol, Ortega, will be able to trace the phone somehow to Lorena, or at least prove that the message about the FBI being at Pier 24 was sent from near the docks. Of course, you can't expect logic from these shows, but wasn't Sofía at Ernesto's when the whole thing went down and could not have sent a message from the dock area? Don't they always find out what cell tower calls originate from - at least in crime shows I've seen.

Lado

Novelera...good point about cell towers....we will see.

Max the coward is likely an idiot as well as he has allowed jen to bully and manipulate him all these years. His willingness not to tell eliza straight up tells me he's a fool.

Rich is no fool...he is on to Lorena. He now needs to know about the phone and where it was found so he can out 2 and 2 together....it was obviously planted. Who would leave something so incriminating in their apt in a chair.

Nett

Lado

thanks all !!!

hmm, the phone, it did have Lorena's prints all over it till Joel started passing it around, it just hasn't dawned on him that it could be anyone elses other than Sofia, and I was thinking Lore made the call to Paula with her phone, (I could be wrong) the dark one, then when she went to Sofia's place they made a big deal out of her getting a call on it, then pulling out a second white phone, and I believe she typed in the message anew on that one, but who would she send it to, hmm, I'm sure lore knows the investigation procedures although it does seem to be throwing her off that IA is in charge.

Rich might be on to it when he finds out, but I think Joel is going with the earlier time he found Sofia sending texts on other phones.

what would really spill things is if Ortega could discover Lore bought the phone, but...

LADO

Nett

We will probably have to wait until Lorena does more harm to Sofia in order to find out if Richard and FBI Internal Affairs set a trap for her. If so, I hope they nail it to her.

Lado:

The problem with FBI Internal Affairs investigating Lorena is that Lorena is not an FBI agent. The FBI has no jurisdiction to investigate an agent from another agency (at least not through it's internal affairs division). In fact, it can only investigate Richard since he is an agent of the FBI. Internal affairs division of a law enforcement agency investigates incidents and possible suspicions of law-breaking and professional misconduct attributed to officers on the force. It certainly doesn't concern itself with law-breaking attributed to officers from other agencies.

Irene

LADO

Irene would the FBI's Internal Affairs Dept. be able to ascertain that Sofia is in the witness protection program? If so, a leak will happen somewhere along the way, and again leave Sofia's life in danger.

Lado:

Victoria,
It was the FBI that put Sophia in the witness protection program.

Irene

Lado:

In principle, since the internal affairs division is part of the FBI, and the FBI put Sophia in witness protection, they shouldn't be leaking anything as it would be acting against FBI'S interest.

Irene

"LADO":

Irene: I see that Lorena plans on bringing Sara Foster to Los Angeles, which is going to put Sara in the cross-hairs of Pastrana, Paula, Cummings, Ernesto & Co.,

1.) How far will Lorena go to keep Joel & will she put Sofia in more danger by blowing her cover ?

2.) I believe Alondra is suffering some effects of the poisoning of the lemonade that Paula is putting in there. You can expect Paula to up the ante, but will Ernesto figure this out & does he give a damn ?

3.) DEADBEAT Max is an EXPLETIVE HOLE! He'll believe anything that J-Low will tell him. But why is Charles in the Bubble-Cover shtick ?

4.) Frida: Lost Cause. She'll do anything to get into the music business.

5.) Any chance the bullies of Alondra are related to Cummings ?

LADO

Steve:. I agree with your previous expletives regarding Max. He just gets worse and worse. Let's hope his position on your 'Hit List' happens fast!

Any liking we had for Steve should be earsed now. He kept his mouth shut. Even though he knows what Jennifer is capable of.
