"EL SENOR DE LOS CIELOS":

Juanita: Looking forward to tonight!

HALIMACANDY: Eat your heart out!!!!!!!

Lado – Lunes

Here are a few brief things that seemed interesting to me.

Rodrigo tells Carmen that he’s feeling better. No one forced him, and he’d give more bone marrow, if necessary, to save his brother.

Jennifer tells Max she’s going to the first appointment with a shrink recommended by Mauricio Pedroza, [Why do I not believe a word of this?]

Sofía/Alejandra meets Ernesto in a restaurant. He lies and says that all is well with Alondra. Sofía has a pin on her dress that is recording their conversation. We see Joel in a ridiculous long Van Dyke beard behind the bar. Ernesto doesn’t have a drink! Ale/Sofi tells him that the problem is not whether or not Alo is gay; it’s the bullying.

We again get the whole darn Frido video. Tomás is walking the streets drinking. When Frida breaks away from some group on a sofa celebrating her hits on You Tube, Tomás is kind of whining. Disgusting Johnny approaches her. If anyone can write his conversation, I’d appreciate it. I just didn’t bother.

Ale/Sofía suggests they go to Ernesto’s house for a drink. Richard is beside himself; he’s still not sure whether Ernesto knows who she really is or not.

Carmen comes to see Max. This is an excellent scene for the two actors. Carmen very calmly calls him a coward and that she feels he has enough punishment in just having to live with himself. Max replies that he understands what she thinks of him, but asks if it were Eliza that needed that bone marrow, how would she react? He never tells her that he didn’t arrange the thing.

Jennifer, instead of getting some help with her mental issues, has gone to Steve’s house to fake his having gone to Spain. She keeps hearing Steve’s ring tone in her head. Andrés and Eliza come to see if Steve is all right, and some guy in a golf cart lets them in. J-Low hides in the closet. Andrés discovers the laptop with a plane ticket J-Low bought for our Corpse Passenger.

When Ernesto and Ale/Sofía arrive at Casa Ernesto, Don Carlos is there waiting for him. He kind of gushes over “Ale” but then grills Ernesto about the woman who looks exactly like his second wife.

Ale/Sofía gets into Alondra’s bedroom. The girl seems feverish. She wakes up. ¿Mamá?

Many thanks, novelera, for your quick but comprehensive recap. Does Joel shop for his disguises in a Halloween store? Each disguise is more ludicrous than the last one. I almost burst out laughing this time at his absurd beard.

So Andrés and Eliza go to Steve's and find his laptop with information about a plane ticket to Spain. Do they really think that Steve has gone to Spain but has left his laptop behind, turned on and open?

Novelera, you asked about the conversation between Johnny and Frida. I had a very hard time understanding it. Johnny rightly assumes that the phone call she answered was from her boyfriend. He says, "Why don't you ask him to drop by?" I think (but am not sure) he then says that the next time he'd like to watch. He talks about how hot he gets, and how she enchants him. Frida tells him to stop talking that way, that her relationship with Tomás is the only beautiful and pure thing she has, and Johnny shouldn't make fun of it. Johnny laughingly says, "Ah, the niña is in love, but she hasn't told her boyfriend about the troubled, secret life she leads. That's very bad." I think he then says something about the boyfriend finding out how Frida has gotten so far. [I hesitated to post this. I've done so hoping that someone who has understood it better will be kind enough to correct what I've said.]

"LADO":

Juanita: I'm expecting Tomas to find out how Frida got far in the music business very soon. When he does, he'll be done with her forever.

I'm NOT shocked Don Carlos is catching onto Sofia as "Alejandra". Only a matter of time before her cover is blown.

Who will discover Steven is really dead first ?

A.) Celia

B.) Andres

C.) Eliza

D.) Charles

"EL SENOR DE LOS CIELOS":

HALIMACANDY: Zuleta threatens Mayra's family members. She gets so freaked out by this, it drives her to quit as the Presidential Secretary for BPN at Los Pinos.

Juanita: Navarro the US DEA Special Agent arrives in Mexico City & meets with Castillo & Colon.

Novelera: Zuleta drops the Female TV News Anchor off at her house & threatens her as well by telling her they are watching her every move with security cameras.

novelera, thanks so much for the recap, that was very nice of you!

I've been waiting for the "culminate" part.

Steve must live in a gated community where they have private security, of course Jen already had his keys, and must have taken the bus, right?

yes, as Carmen says, being Max is punishment enough, ha!

so Cummings is definitely dead, (he looked alive when they hauled him away), so Sofia is still in the clear.

loved watching Paula walk around with an ice pack on the side of her head.

it looks like Alo is starting to crack, I wonder if Ale notices, and I wonder if Margarita does too, or is it something about the pic that she wants to talk to Ernesto about.

Lado:

Novelera, thank you for the concise yet comprehensive recap.

I didn't know that I could hate Max more than I already hate him, but this episode proved me wrong.
He is such a complete and utter piece of garbage to talk that way to Carmen, the grandmother of his son who, thanks to Max and his nutcase of a wife was almost maimed or killed by a horrific and unnecessary procedure that left him with a severe PTSD.
I wanted to strangle him when he said that doesn't own her an explanation and she is no one to judge him and almost threw a vase on my tv when he asked her to put herself in his place. No one of a sound mind would put a ten year old through horrific pain and suffering, not to mention a risk of permanent disability or death when there is another way to get the bone marrow, a way that is legal, pain-free safe to the child!
And I am repeating myself about him being the dumbest moron ever, but how, with all the information that he has, doesn't he harbor not even a slight suspicion as far as Steve's disappearance is concerned?

Joel with that ridiculous fake beard made me laugh so hard I almost fell from the sofa. He looked like one of the three Chinese wise man (the feng shui gods of wealth) with that beard and was about as inconspicuous as a copy of Kama Sutra in a monastery.

Irene

Lado:

I couldn't care less about Frida's storyline. She is sleeping her way to the top, and is no different than a prostitute working a corner, except that I actually pity the prostitutes because they do what they do mostly because they have no other choice. Frida doesn't have hungry children to feed or sick parents to provide for, she does it to better her singing career.
Some might say that it's not her fault, but even though Jonny is a terrible creep, he didn't force her, only asked to be paid for his services in sex, and she could have and should have said no.

While I agree with you Halimacandy that Julian is a criminal that should spend years in prison for his crimes, Thomas is not a blanca paloma. Granted, unlike Julian, he is forced to commit crimes, but all my sympathy towards him went out the window when he didn't stop Marc from ruffying the girls and thus became an accessory to rape,in addition to various drug related offenses.

Irene

"LADO":

Irene: I hope Frida dies a very painful death & from a drug overdose.

Lado

Steve, you're completely off base. There's been no mention of Frida ever taking drugs. And I'm not best pleased with you wishing she'd die a painful death. She has put her ambition above her moral compass, but this does not merit the sort of punishment you suggested.

El Señor

None of the regular commenters here are watching this novela; so, Steve, you're wasting your time directing comments about the novela to the rest of us. If you have the energy to put up recaps, I'm sure there's someone lurking out there who might read them. But the regulars, as far as I can see, are not interested at all.

Lado and General

Just a note to say that I'll recap tonight's episode. As usual, it will be posted quite late.

I'd like to add that I agree with what novelera has said, both about Steve's comment about Frida being off-base and about the inappropriateness of addressing comments to people who aren't even watching the novela in question.

Al otro lado del muro Capítulo 59 Parte 1/3

Ugh! Almost half of this episode consisted of flashbacks. I will not describe them in the recap, I will just write [MF], which stands for "More Flashbacks." (Shame on those of you who thought I meant something else!)

Alondra is asleep. Alejandra sits beside the bed, feels Alondra's head. Alo opens her eyes, says "Mama? Mama, please don't leave!" and then seems to fall back to sleep. Alejandra tells her that she's her friend, Alejandra Miranda. Alo wakes again, and this time she's angry. "Let me sleep!" she screams. "No one here lets me sleep!"

Meanwhile, Don Carlos comments on how much Alejandra resembles Sofía. Ernesto tells him how affected he was by the resemblance the first time he met Alejandra. They investigated her, and it was proven that she was not Sofía. [MF] Ernesto then asks Don Carlos what he thinks about Alejandra as the new First Lady. Don Carlos replies, "Everything in its time. Don't let this distract you from what's most important." Ernesto tells him that what's most important to him is his political career. Don Carlos cautions him, "Don't get confused (No te hagas bolas). For now, you're needed in Los Angeles. You will be Cummings' successor. This will give you time to mature, and meanwhile look after our interests here and on the other side of the border." Ernesto claims that he has always regarded the business as a means, not an end; he has much more noble ideals. Don Carlos accuses him of not wanting to get his hands dirty but points out that Ernesto has always had his hands dirty. Ernesto protests, "You want to make me a mafioso, a pimp (proxeneta) like Cummings." Carlos points out that they have acquired very important commitments that they can't ignore. He praises Ernesto's discipline and leadership. However, if Ernesto thinks that now is the time for him to withdraw, there's no problem. Apparently Ernesto finally recognizes the unspoken threat in what Don Carlos is saying. He replies, "I'm a disciplined man. If I have to wait, I'll do that." Don Carlos claims to be pleased with Ernesto's reply. They go to rejoin Alejandra.

Alejandra has assumed that if Don Carlos has traveled from Mexico to see Ernesto, it must be to support his presidential aspirations. She's about to ask Margarita to bring a bottle of champagne. Ernesto tells her that's not necessary, tequila will do. Joel and Richard are listening to the bugged conversation, and they note that Ernesto does not seem pleased (complacido).

At Eliza's, Andrés is concerned that Steve has not shown up or contacted them about the papers he was preparing for Rachel to sign. Eliza tells Andrés that Steve is not irresponsible; she fears something has happened, either to him or to someone in his family in Spain.

In Tijuana, Rachel talks by phone with Santiago. He tells her Steve has said that if all goes well, in one year she'll be able to re-enter the US. Santiago promises to bring papers for her to sign when he visits her at the wall the next day.

Patrick tells Lorena that Cummings had enough time to talk to Ernesto and Paula about her. If they know, they won't stop until they kill you. [MF] Lorena tells him that she failed them. Patrick says they know that she gave up Sofía's identity under torture. Lorena says no, it's not just that. She confesses that she left the cell phone in Sofía's apartment to incriminate her. [MF]

Lado Cap. 59 2/3

Patrick is furious. "You betrayed us! For jealousy! You're going to face charges of high treason." Lorena claimed she didn't act out of jealousy [but it's not clear to me what other motivation she had]. She recognizes that she could be sent to prison for what she did, and she reminds Patrick that she and he are friends. Patrick tells her that if she's looking for someone to defend you, she's barking up the wrong tree. "Are you going to accuse me?" she asks.
Patrick leaves, saying they'll talk the next day.

Tomás and Frida are finally together. He's agitated and desperate. He just wants to be with her, to make love to her. In a scene soon after this, they've apparently made love. Tomás is asleep. Frida is sitting next to him in the bed, remembering Johnny's telling her that she could be the next Jenni Rivera. [MF] Tomás wakes up, asks if she's OK. No, she's not. "We're done," she tells him. I can't continue."

Joel and Ale carefully enter Ale's apartment. Joel has his gun drawn. He moves very slowly through the rooms. He gets to the room where Alondra had strewn all the photos of herself. "What a disaster!" he observes. He finally puts the gun down and tells Alejandra that he heard her when she was with Alo and she called her "Mama." It was a dream, Ale replies. He also heard her when Ernesto mentioned some kind of proposal. [MF] He proposed marriage, she tells him. Ernesto is giving her time to consider. "That's a joke, right?" Joel asks. "No," she says, "it's a nightmare. I have to do it."

Max and J-Lowest are sleeping in the same bed. J-L keeps hearing Steve's cell phone in her head. [It's surely no coincidence that the music Steve has chosen for the ringtone is from Beethoven's "Für Elise"!] She cries out in her sleep, "Forgive me, Steve." [MF] The music continues. She screams, "Turn off the damned phone!" Max wakes up. She tells him she had a nightmare. "You mentioned Steve," he tells her. "If it's a dream, why are you so frightened?" "Because he was hitting me with a stick on my head, because we were arguing." Max insists that she should tell her psychiatrist about her dreams.

Lado Cap. 59 3/3

Alejandra starts cleaning up the mess Alondra made of her apartment. She sees the photos scattered about. [MF]

Tomás tells Frida, "I supported you, I gave you space." There's no reason, it just over, she replies. "You don't love me?" he asks." No, that's not the issue. You're an obstacle to my career, and I have to choose between my career and you. You'll be OK, you'll be fine," she says.

Joel returns to his place to find Lorena sprawled on top of his bed. She wakes up. He tells her not to worry, he'll sleep on the sofa. [What, no flashbacks?]

Santiago, Eliza, Andrés, Rodrigo, and Carmen are preparing to leave to see Rachel at the wall. Karina kisses her grandmother goodbye. They call for Tomás. Rod says he didn't sleep at home last night. Eliza asks Karina whether she has heard from Tomás. She lies, saying he told her he was staying at Benny's. Eliza isn't pleased. Karina stays home, while everyone else leaves for the wall. This time, people are allowed through for five minutes, after which they have to go back. [Does this really happen?] Lots of kissing, sobbing, etc. etc.

Karina tries to call Tomás and leaves a message. Then there's a knock on the door. A very drunk and depressed Tomás appears. "Frida left me," he announces, and breaks down in Karina's arms.

Ernesto too is drunk and depressed. Paula sees him and observes snidely, "I can see your attack of sobriety didn't last long." He tells her that Don Carlos came to see him. Paula is at first excited, thinking that Don Carlos was supporting Ernesto's political aspirations. "No," replies Ernesto, "it's a position much more important than President of Mexico: New Jefe of the child trafficking network in North America and the Caribbean."

Joel and Lorena talk. She tells him about planting the phone to incriminate Sofía. [Apparently they ran out of flashbacks, because the episode ended here.]

Lado

Brilliant recap, Juanita! I loved the MF concept. I would love to be in a room with these writers and find out why they sprinkle those in liberally at the end of the show.

I had to look up Für Elise to get the gist of your mentioning it not being a coincidence. Apparently Beethoven, like Jennifer, was rejected.

Watching Karina comfort Tomás, I was thinking that his collapsing into her arms was probably because she is his twin, a much closer relationship than most siblings. And she's the perfect, kind person to comfort him.

Gabriel Porras was excellent in his scenes with Don Carlos. He's almost as delusional as J-Low, in that he imagines himself a noble politician who can do great things for his country. I could not help but feel pity for him as he realized he had to sink into the mire to continue with this pursuit. And, my question is answered: Don Carlos is in the child trafficking up to his neck. I wonder if Univisión would so openly depict corruption at the highest level in Mexico.

I also wondered about that 5 minute family reconciliation at the border, if it's really done. And why 5 minutes? Couldn't they spend a half hour together? [Must be to allow more time for MF.]

Frida loves Tomás, and I believe she now feels she's sunk too low to deserve him.

Lorena still thinks she's going to skate on what she did. And I still don't completely understand what she did. She planted the phone, true. But did she merely see the message from someone about the correct pier and not tell the team? Or did she type something herself. I thought they showed that in one of the MF's.

I expect they're showing Alondra worsening from the drugged lemonade. But she was on her game and feisty when Ernesto dragged her out of the apartment. And now she seems irrational and very weak. And she hasn't had any lemonade for a while. First she was at Ale's and then she has been sequestered in her room.

"LADO":

Novelera: I see that Paula spiking the lemonade is having a successful effect into driving Alondra insane.

Tomas should find another girl & move on! However, the bad news is 66 will do continue intimidating him for the foreseeable future.

Can somebody find Steven's dead body in the freezer ?

Juanita: Lorena going to federal prison ?

"EL SENOR DE LOS CIELOS":

1.) Mayra tells Castillo that Zuleta violently raped her. You can bet Castilo will go Beast-Mode on Zuleta & BPN.

2.) Daddy Casilas & Corina having sex in the dungeon.

3.) Ishmael getting his freak on with the Hot Sexy Nurse.

4.) Super Javi & the Colombian Babes on the run.

5.) Navarro, Colon & Castillo discussing strategies.

Lado

Thanks very much, novelera, for your insightful comments. I have to confess that I know little about "Für Elise" except the music and the title. I've been struck since I first heard it as the ringtone on Steve's phone with the similarity between the German title and "For Eliza." Given Steve's 10-year passion for Eliza, the ringtone seemed to me deliberately chosen.

When Lorena, acting as the Party Planner, had Cummings in her apartment, she heard him take a phone call and say "Pier 18 at noon. OK" So she knew that there was a change in the original original plan to have the "delivery" of the girls take place at Pier 24 (which is what Sofía had seen on a piece of paper inside the briefcase she had unlocked and which she reported to Patrick, Richard, et al.). Rather than tell the guys about her updated info, Lorena let them act upon Sofía's outdated info. Lorena then sent the bad guys a message that the FBI was at Pier 24, leading to the ambush. Lorena then planted a phone with the "Pier 24" message in Sofía's apartment to incriminate Sofía, making it seem as if she was working with the bad guys. When Joel found and took the phone, I think Lorena planted a second phone on which she again typed that message and hid it in the same place in Sofía's apartment. I confess, though, that I've always felt quite confused about this second planted phone. I should also add that after Richard et al had arrived at Pier 24, Lorena called them to say that the girls were at Pier 18. When questioned, Lorena claimed that she had gotten lost and accidentally happened upon the girls at Pier 18. Thus, she'd get credit for alerting them to Pier 18 and Sofía would get suspected of deliberately giving them wrong info.

I'm not sure, but I think I vaguely remember a mostly empty lemonade glass on the night table next to Alondra's bed in Ernesto's. Even if that's not the case, the poison Paula has used could still be causing Alondra's erratic behavior.

Lado

thank you so much Juanita, I love your take on the story and how it flows along in your recap!

my best guess on flashbacks is that it is not the writers but the editors that sprinkle them in for various reasons, like to extent the story, or maybe to help pull in new viewers by explaining things.

but it gets confusing sometimes, I was thrown earlier by the scenes with Lorena planting the phone as I didn't get that she had the original phone the message was sent on (there wasn't another), and I'm pretty sure she sent the original message to Paula, and now she is telling Patrick she found the phone, ah but Patrick is seeing right through this, maybe because of Joel's investigation (and news to Lore that it was Joel that has the phone, is his 24 hours up yet?).

other ways to extend a show, music videos, ha!, and now Raquel has one, that is such a sad scene, it's easy to forget that it is not so much American policy that created this as a corrupt judge that bypassed all of the safeguards).

I'm kind of missing the part where Tomas is sad to begin with, was it Rod, Alo, 66? I agree with Eliza, a high school kid should not be showing up in the morning with alcohol on his breath.

I assumed Sofia went into her apt after Alo/Ernesto left, but I guess not.

and when is Margarita going to talk to Ernesto?

I agree with novelera, Gabriel Porras (Ernesto) is always interesting to watch, especially now as a politician walking the line between good and evil, he makes a good case for the end justifying the means, but the darkness is closing in on him.

I found the scene between Sofia and Joel very complicated, he had two questions,
1) about Alo recognizing her, and her response was, she gave up her right to be Alo's mom when she took on this investigation.
2) Ernesto's proposal, she is still thinking about it (but wait, if she marries Ernesto Alo would then be the step daughter of Alejandra).

ah, before Alo went to sleep Margarita asked her if she wanted some food, she said no and I think placed her empty glass on the night stand.

Lado

Thanks, Juanita and deb, for more details about Lorena. So the tale of finding the cell phone on the ground and then planting it was a lie? It was her cell phone all along (and, of course, there is video of her buying it that doesn't clearly identify her). So she really is rotten to the core and texted Paula that the FBI was at Pier 24 and caused them to be shot at?

Here is the only thing I could find about visits through the fence. There was one in 2013:

https://www.pri.org/stories/2013-05-06/families-divided-us-mexico-border-meet-across-fence

Lado

deb, thanks very much for your helpful comments. I'm always impressed by how much more you see, remember, and understand.

You may well be right that it's the editors rather than the writers who are padding this novela with so many flashbacks. The fact remains that if they don't have enough fresh material, they should have shortened the number of episodes from the start. Indeed, the best novela I've ever seen (La Reina del Sur) was planned from the start to run for about 3 months. It left many of us sorry when it ended, rather than heaving sighs of relief.

Good point about Raquel's problems resulting from a corrupt judge rather than American policy per se.

I'm not sure that Margarita has put two and two together re what happened to Ernesto's first wife and now Alo's dizziness, tiredness, etc. I was (and still am) hoping she would make the connection.

I too found the scene between Sofía and Joel puzzling.

Add me to the list of Gabriel Porras admirers. He's been terrific in a number of very different kinds of roles.

Lado

novelera, thanks for ferreting out the info about the wall. So, at least then, letting people actually come in was a one-time thing. What's really not clear is that in the novela, they first show people having to stay on one side or the other, but then on another occasion they show the 5-minute visit, with no explanation that I can recall about why the change. Oh well...

Yes, the business about finding the phone was an out-and-out lie. My understanding is that Lorena bought a second cell phone to use for making the call about the FBI being at Pier 24 so that it could not be traced back to her. She then planted that phone in Sofía's apartment to incriminate her. What's confusing is what happens after that. Joel finds and takes the phone Lorena planted, but Lorena hears nothing about the phone having been found. She apparently goes to investigate, sees that the phone she planted is gone, and then...I dunno. She seems to have yet another phone (not her main one) on which she retypes the message and leaves it where she left the other one, but I could be wrong. And all the flashbacks make things more rather than less confusing, IMNSHO. :-)

"LADO":

Juanita: Looks like Don Carlos will be around in the closing stretch.

PS: I still do NOT trust Lorena.

Lado

I have limited internet capabilities at home and was not able to open novelera's post, but I did find some not updated info,

"Between 2012 and 2016 Border Angels has been involved in the annual binational Children's Day event that has involved the opening of the emergency gate on the border at Friendship Park between Border State Park on the United States side and Friendship Park (San Diego–Tijuana) in Playas de Tijuana. Working alongside United States Border Patrol, mixed status families often including children on the US side who hold Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals were given the opportunity to briefly hug their families between both countries for a period of three minutes."

I think this is called the "Door of Hope".

(in the story this is something special that Steve arranged).

Juanita- on the phone, I too was confused but I'm fairly certain now that there is only one phone, that it was planted by Lore once, that she later discovered it to be gone, the confusion arises from several not clearly identified flashbacks and a tv remote on the same chair.

My dear Juanita, thank you so much for such a comprehensive and witty recap. I loved the MF'S, the Spanish expressions and your humorous asides, especially this one : "Apparently they ran out of flashbacks, because the episode ended here".

I now understand why Max married Jennifer for money and connections, he is so dimwitted that he would never have succeeded relying on his own intelligence. It's beyond me how, after hearing Jennifer scream "Forgive me Steve" he didn't suspect that something happened to Steve and Jennifer is somehow involved. So far we have: Steve was last seen talking to Jennifer, he "left in a hurry to Spain" without even saying good bye to Charlie, Jennifer was found soaking wet immediately after that, Jennifer had a serious nervous breakdown immediately after that, Jennifer's explanation about being soaking wet is so contrived a 5 year old can tell she is lying, Jennifer doesn't have a broken arm even though that's what she told Max, Steve doesn't answer his phone, however the phone is not disconnected/in flight mode(which means that the phone is still in the US),Steve the responsible lawyer who is in love with Eliza just dropped an extremely important case and left without telling Eliza and finally Jennifer asks Steve to forgive her and her explanation about why would she say that defies logic (she said that in her dream Steve was hitting her, so why would she ask him for forgiveness?).What else does this moron need to realize that something really bad happened? I would say to see Steve's body in the freezer, but he is so dumb that he would probably just buy Jennifer's explanation that Steve is just taking a nap there or something.

Lorena definitely deliberately sabotaged the mission by sending a text to Paula and then planted the phone. She later went to check whether someone found the phone, not to plant another one.
I think she was ready to tell the truth to Patrick about all of it, but then he mentioned the high treason charges (that only apply to the deliberately sabotaging the mission part) and she decided to give him a less damaging version of events.

Irene

Lado

deb, thanks very much for the updated information about the "Door of Hope."

And I think you're probably right about Lorena's having planted only one phone, and that her seeming to do it a second time is mostly the fault of flashbacks.

Irene, thanks very much for your appreciative and interesting comment. I'm especially pleased at your singling out the recap's last line.

At times, I've felt you've been too harsh on Max, but I agree completely with what you say here. You make a very convincing case that he comes off as a total idiot. I bet you're one heck of a good lawyer! And I laughed out loud at your saying that if confronted with Steve's body in the freezer, Max "would probably just buy Jennifer's explanation that Steve is just taking a nap there or something."

Lado

I agree with Juanita: Irene, Steve "just taking a nap in the freezer or something" was SO funny. Thanks for that!

Deb: Lorena obviously gave Paula the heads up on the FBI raid.

Lado

I'll try and do the recap tonight.

Lado #60 1/2

Santiago, maria, and Raquel, meet at the wall, touching, Eliza, Rod, Andreas, and Carmen are there too, papers she asks, later Santi says.

Rich wants to know if Sofia picked up on anything at Ernesto's, she remembers Alo and thinks to herself, she knows, but tells Rich about Ernesto being upset after his meeting with don Carlos, that's all.

Joel flips on Lore, apologizes don't work here, you betrayed your colleagues, Patrick was almost killed, she pleads she just found the phone, he tells her about the video at the phone shop, it could very well have been you.

Karina tries to get a buzzed and hungover Tomas to talk, about Frida, well, she's a goddess, he's a loser, she'll be famous, he'll be in her way, which unleashes every flashback they ever had together, (plus a music video) but then there is that one time, when they made love, a first for them both, something special they will always have.

always, as Fri sits in her regrets, Johnny surprises her, he doesn't know what she did but his friend is crazy about her, look, she will be opening for the 40 de Linares!

at the wall the guard splits things up, Carmen tells Eliza who is worried for herself, it will never happen to you, (ut oh) Raquel goes straight to the coyote, ah, but Carmen crosses at the same gate, and draws her away.

Joel is all pissed, will you report me, Lore asks, I have no choice, he says, Lore says take me to the phone store, if anyone recognizes me I'll turn myself in.

Ernesto is leaving with his golf clubs to meet with the American partners, Paula is ready to go, nope, Don Carlos doesn't want any women around when he's talking business, but I know more about this than you, him and all, Paula pleads, yes, Ernesto knows this but he doesn't make the rules, psst!

Paula swings by to see Alo, who thinks it's her mother, nope, your mother's dead, Paula reminds her, not to worry, we are about to become the best of friends, didn't anyone tell you drugs are bad, you can hardly talk, Alo goes, you..drugged..me...

Paula adds this isn't working for me, sprays some Scopolamine in her face.

(they used this in "Sangre", Devil's breath)

it's organic, whoever takes it is devoid of will, they become docile, kind and willing to do others bidding, just what you need to get rid of your worst personality traits, we can't over do it though, it might cause brain damage or death, can't have that, we just want you to be the daughter that Ernesto always wanted, Alo is dazed.

Lado #60 2/2

Jen is at Steve's, on the phone, I need to move today, will double or triple your fee, I will text you the address. (hmm is she having Steve's stuff moved out?)

next she texts Eliza as Steve, thank you for being there through the tough times... I know you won't understand but I have to go..., Eliza gets it on the way home from the border.

Max and Charlie are watching TV, eating popcorn, Charlie wants to know why Max came back, he doesn't love Jen, they only fight, and what about Eliza?, hmm, and of course Charlie would like to see Rod again, just one more time, he is my brother (of course anyone of us could fill in Max's explanations).

Carmen wraps up Raquel's breasts, not good tearing a mother away from her baby, food?, no?, maybe they will go to the drug store and find something to dry up her milk, Raquel is catching on, no papers from Steve, drying up her milk, things aren't going so well right?, Carmen trying to brighten the mood gives her the debit card Santi loaded up for her.

Joel and Lore arrive at the cell phone store, the manager doesn't even recognize Joel, what?, so Joel prods him along, but this isn't getting anywhere, oh well, he leaves to take a call from Richard, did I do good, he asks, Lorena pays the guy off. (can we come back and get that video)

Santi is upset about Steve, Raquel wants to cross over, good thing Carmen is with her, she reminds Raquel of the many who tried only to die in the desert, never to be heard from again.

Karina tucks in Tomas, gets a call from Julian, he wants to go out, take care of some unfinished business, nope, busy, Karina says, hmm, Paula is listening in, she could use some of that loving, does Julian want help with his little problem, nope, Julian turns a cold shoulder, I really do love her, Paula fades away, alone.

the guys return from the border, ah, Max and Charlie are waiting, Rod and Charlie hug, Eliza flips, she can't find a flashback that has anything good in it about Max, she runs the kids inside, Max demands his right as a father, she tells him he lost that right when he used Rodrigo as a lab rat, Andreas brings a calming influence, he doesn't want them to be seen fighting in the street, it could be used against her, and walks he inside, Max gets curb duty.

"LADO":

Deb: I KNEW Alondra was going to fall under the spell of Ernesto & Paula. I call this a BIGLY success!

Sofia should just give up on Alondra.

"EL SENOR DE LOS CIELOS":

HALIMACANDY: Looks like Corina will rat out Castillo to Daddy Casilas.

Castillo's days might be numbered.

Wonderful recap, deb! Many thanks. I really needed this one--I was so tired last night that I kept fading in and out. Perhaps there was more new material than I saw, but it seemed to me that we were again subjected to the news of the week/month in review. Yawn.

Paula is nothing if not resourceful. Lipstick, check. Comb, check. Scopolamine, check. And yup, they used it in Sangre, too.

I enjoyed your parenthetical asides, esp. "(of course anyone of us could fill in Max's explanations)" and "(can we come back and get that video)."

Wow, Julián turning down Paula's invitation because "it wouldn't be fair to Karina." Hmmm...can redemption be far behind? Or are we being set up to mourn Julián's death? I loved your "Paula fades away, alone."

I do hope Carmen prevails over the distraught Raquel's going with a coyote.

"LADO":

Juanita: Looks like this is the last we'll be seeing of Raquel because going with the Coyote will NOT end well.

Lado

thanks Juanita! I wasn't tired and I too was nodding off, there wasn't much action outside of the flashbacks, unless you enjoyed watching Max eating popcorn, I had to go back and dig out some of the conversations, I didn't bother with the Eliza part of the Steve text, she said it was mostly personal.

Scopolamine is an interesting drug for anyone not familiar with it, apparently quite a few tourists in Colombia have ended up with empty bank accounts but can't remember how it happened.

eyes are on Lorena as she proves to us she is unworthy of Joel.

Paula found rejection at every turn, first from Ernesto, (I want to see them out on the golf course), and next by Julian, interesting shot as she fades away, of course Alo will get her wrath, how long before we see her in a dress, and how will Sofia take the change, hmm, and I wonder if they will keep up with the lemonade.

"LADO":

Deb: Good question on the lemonade storyline. We'll find out soon enough.

Thank you, Deb, for another fantastic recap. I love your humour, especially these lines "she can't find a flashback that has anything good in it about Max" and "Max gets curb duty".

What a bucket of manure this Max is. I just can't stomach him anymore. His love for Eliza surely faded away quicker than the speed of light. I can't believe that instead of taking care of the legal status of his children and then quietly retreating to never be seen again, he is now harassing Eliza! Where are Benny and 66 when one needs them?!

And I am so so done with Frida's storyline. Enough with those flashbacks and that mind-numbingly godawful song! She sure seemed excited about that opening act, it immediately erased any sadness she had about losing Thomas and pleasuring that bald pervert to promote her career.

Can someone explain to me how Jennifer sent a text from Steve's phone if said phone was smashed to pieces with a hammer?

And how Lorena's bruises and split lip miraculously completely healed overnight?

And does it really matter, as far as her culpability is concerned, whether she found the phone or not? The worst part about what she did is that she knew that the pier number was changed and didn't say a thing, putting everyone at risk, including the innocent girls.

Irene

Juanita, there is no redemption for Julian until he confesses about all of his crimes, especially the one that landed Raquel in jail and subsequently deported. So far, he keeps going around happy and carefree (apart from a transitory erectile dysfunction) and doesn't care one iota that he seriously injured a man and put an innocent new mother, Karina's friend, in jail.

Irene

Lado

thanks Irene!

hmm, this was a bit confusing, but Jen was in Steve's place, and I think she used his laptop, that we remember from before, to send the text.

Lado:

Yes, I remember something like that, but how is it even possible to send texts from a computer? And would he have his email account open like this without password protection? I am technologically challenged, so all this technical stuff is mystery to me.

Irene

Lado

Irene, J-Low sent the message from Steve's laptop. Most probably it was email rather than a text. Many people have their computers set up to automatically put in the username and password for their email program. Another possibility is that Steve uses a password manager such as LastPass that will put in the passwords for you. Depending on how you've set up LastPass, you'll either have to give the LastPass master password each time (which J-Low wouldn't be able to do) or only every so often, such as every ten days or so. So it's perfectly plausible that J-Low could send an email message to Eliza from Steve's laptop without knowing the password.

Lado

Thank you Juanita for your helpful information. I had no idea that there is such a thing as password manager. To be honest, I would never use something like that - I am too paranoid about my private information and this just sound too risky.

That nutcase has a lot of luck: the computer is not password protected, the email is accessible and she even knows everything there is to know about Raquel's case.

I hope Steve has no information about his clients on that poorly protected laptop. We shouldn't speak ill of the dead, even if they are fictional telenovela characters, but that was terribly dumb of Steve to leave his computer so accessible.

Irene

"LADO":

Irene: Big question is how far will J-Low go into preventing Eliza & Andres from finding out what happened to Steven ?

I mean his clients are going to put 2 & 2 together. Let's NOT forget about Margot, who might come back from Spain.
