Juanita: Whoever is doing the recap for tonight better cook it up good!

Lado #71

hmm, interesting show!

Paula drags margarita off to the kitchen to die, she has hypertension and couldn't get to her pills, or so it seems, the spray drug will seal the deal, Paula then leaves so she will have an alibi.

Alo, Beto, and Julian are at a club, Julian is trying to sell his car to a seedy looking character but he doesn't buy, he only sells, happy pills, maybe his cousin.

Alo has a headache and wants some lemonade (hmm, wiki said the lemonade drug was addicting), Beto gives her a massage which might become sensual, Alo punches him like the bad girls before that kissed her.

Ale comes home with Ernesto and his roving hands only to find Margarita's body.

morning

Julian has brought Alo home and watches over her as she awakens, breaks the news of Margarita, they reminisce.

Paula gets Margarita's body on the fast track to a relative in Mexico before Sofia can push for an autopsy.

Alo is wearing black, Paula isn't but has her spray bottle, Alo shuts her down, don't spray that stuff on me.

Sofia is sure Paula killed Margarita, the boys have mixed feelings, Richard thinks maybe she just died, Patrick thinks there is no evidence, Joel has an idea, let's hold the body in Mexico and do the autopsy, if it shows she was killed they will have what they need to go into Ernesto's place and the Consulate.

and so Patrick and Richard go to Mexico and make the arrangements, only to find out Marquez can't do the autopsy, he is in the hospital with terminal cancer, he was trying to get a hold of you Joel, didn't your wife tell you, what?,

Patrick carries on with the autopsy arrangements while Joel goes to see Marquez, they do the small talk thingy, catch up, and all, when he dies, or maybe not, Marquez finally spills, Sofia did not kill Irene.

in other stories, Tomas takes the pills and comes home, Eliza thinks he's drunk, Andres knows the score, but Tomas rushes out, the next morning Andres clicks on where he is and arrives at 66's to take him home, but first he has to take on the whole gang, no problem, then 66 lays it out that Tomas owes him $20K, but lets him leave, Tomas sleeps it off while Andres digs up the $20K, (did he get a loan on the bakery)

Julian has sold his car and gives $40K to Karina to give to Raquel, he can't help her to come back but he can help her with a new start, what?

the party at Mark's ends with Johnny beating Frida with his belt for interfering and to remind her that she is his slut, Ari looks a little worse for wear and well used, later we see Frida at a TV station ?? she wants to make a complaint.

and earlier Lorena accepted a package from Marquez that she reads and stashes.

Lado

Thanks VERY much, deb, for this helpful recap.

Wow, I thought that the stuff Mark gave Tomás was supposed to make him forget about Frida and feel happy. When he first comes home, Tomás seems absurdly happy, but in a few minutes he starts hallucinating, seeing Max and then 66 coming at him.

Two things about the money transactions surprised me. One is that 66 tells Andrés that Benny and Tomás robbed him, and that Benny paid him back, but Tomás still owes him $30K. But then 66 says that because of the job Tomás did for him, he only owes $20K. So I guess the stuff that Tomás stole from J-Low's house was worth $10K. (Why Tomás owes 66 anything has never been clear to me.)

The other surprise involving money was Julián's getting $40K for his car. The car wasn't new, and it was clear that Julián was desperately wanting to sell it, so I was astonished that he got so much money for it. From the circumstances, I would imagine the car would have had to cost over $100K new for him to get $40K for it. Would Ernesto really have paid that much for a birthday present for Julián?

I had the feeling that Karina was pleased with Julián's selling his car to help Raquel. And though that was probably part of Julián's motivation, I felt that his wish to help Raquel (and alleviate his guilt) was sincere.

I think Frida first went to a police station to file a complaint and then later spoke with the interviewer at the TV station (the one who interviewed her earlier?). The interviewer tells Frida that they can arrange it so that people only see her back and she's not identified, but Frida says no, she wants everyone who sees the interview to see her and know who she is. Presumably they'll also see the bruises on her face. And though other bruises aren't visible, I bet she's got some ugly ones. Johnny kept hitting her violently with his belt.

It looks as if Lorena is done for. Marquez made it clear that he not only called Joel, he also sent the documentation. And Lorena told him nothing.

LADO

OK I'm a crybaby. I admit. Julian had my eyes covered in bottled water with his attempt at redemption. I fell for it hook, line, and sinker.

Oh how I wish I had Andrés' budgetary skills. A lifetime of one's blood, sweat, and tears = 20k in comparison to Julian's 40k for becoming one year older, spoiled, and an airhead with a 100k car!!! I'll take the hard knocks of life and experience any day over a handout.

Steve, kudos for forecasting Margarita.
Way to go Alondra, sock it to Mr. Granddaddy's baby boy. I thought he might actually grow on me. But no such luck.

What happened to all the testosterone that was flying every which way between Richard and Joel???? Did they make a secret boy's pact?? Or fire, water, steel, whatever....

Boy I can't wait to see how they make Lorena pay for her latest sneaky tricks. She is one clingy, conniving, sick chick.

I wish a could read a crystal ball and peak towards the end.

I'm enjoying the read and ride, and thank Urban for getting me on the PASL bandwagon. I look forward to Season 2 on that end.

Angelique's new novela, 'Contracara', and her hunk of a costar the gorgeous blue eye Michel Brown (PDG) sounds like it will be somewhat of a supernatural, ghost story. But, hey, what hot bodied chick could pass Michel Brown by.?? I'll have to do cameo peeks and ignore the ghosts.

I plan on re-watching PDG at least twice more this year alone, along with Montecristo.

"LADO":

Victoria: RIP Mag-ista :(

It was hard to watch her die like that. I also found it disturbing Paula was in a rush to have the body flown to Mexico to avoid an autopsy.

Let's see what Patrick & Co., find out on the autopsy.

Lorena still did NOT tell Joel about the documentation Marquez sent him. She's Jennifer 2.0!

Deb: Julian needs to face his Karma. But will he find out the truth of how his Mommy died ? Highly unlikely.

Juanita: Alondra must have been a boxer.

ESCENAS DEL PROXIMO CAPITULO!

'EL SENOR DE LOS CIELOS":

HALIMACANDY: BPN meeting with Meade 2.0 inside Los Pinos as his possible successor with the upcoming 2018 Presidential Election coming up. I sense that Jaime looks nervous & scared with the realization he's about to become the Fall Guy.

Lado

I skipped reading any comments and/or recaps today. I had a very fun book group last night that went on for a while [You Don't have to Say You Love Me,, a memoir by Sherman Alexie] and then came home and watched the Golden State Warriors (barely) beat the Cleveland Cavaliers.

So no telenovela whatsoever last night. I will watch both episodes tonight and do a recap of tonight's show.

LADO – VIERNES – Parte 1 de 3

Don Carlos is over the moon about the impending wedding. To Alejandra: “Thanks to you, hemosura (beauty), this guy quit drinking. [They are, to me, living in a telenovela fantasy. They think the people of Mexico are going to want as First Lady a dead ringer for the murderer who was his second wife?] Carlos tells her that she vuelve a este hombre al redil (brought him back into the fold – literally sheepfold).

He asks when the wedding’s to be. Ale wants it this very Saturday, but Carlos says he can’t be in the US until the Saturday at the end of the month.

[I’ve been noticing for weeks now that Paula only wears mono-color dresses, either sleeveless or with cap sleeves and that show off her figure.] So Alondra is demonstrating some spirit and doesn’t want that spray any more. But the ever flexible Paula starts in saying how harmless the stuff is, then sprays it into the air and wafts it in Alondra’s direction. And, just like that, Alo is docile once again.

Tomás tells “Andy” he can’t accept the $20,000 that he knows are his savings. Andrés says it’s true that these are his life savings that he planned to give to Santiago and Raquel to make a good start in Mexico. But those two will be all right; they’re hardworking.

Tomás insists he’ll pay 66 himself. Andrés: “And how will you do that? Selling drugs, burglaries? I’ll pay this because I know you got into this to help Benny and you can learn from this mistake. But most of all it’s for your mother and your brother and sister.” He tells Tomás that it’s not a gift; it’s a loan. And he’ll repay it with honest, hard work.

Carmen is trying to convince Eliza not to throw Tomás out of the house for using drugs. Eliza insists that, if she lets this go, what kind of message is that for Karina and Rodrigo. She says that, if all parents were completely intolerant of their children using drugs, there would be fewer kids using. Carmen plays her trump card, reminding Eliza that, if she puts Tomás out into the street, she’ll really lose him and forever.

Karina won’t accept the big check from Julián for the sale of his sports car. She’s actually insulted that he wants to involve her in it at all. She tells him he has to work out his guilt himself.

Joel is with Márquez in the hospital. Márquez tells him that a francotirador a distancia (sharpshooter from distance) killed his sister. It was not “point blank” like he said at the time. Joel protests, saying he saw the autopsy report. Márquez tells him that the whole report was false; he changed it all so as to put the blame on Sofía Villavicencio.

LADO – VIERNES – Parte 2 de 3

Márquez says he has to get rid of the guilt that’s dogged him for 10 years. He describes how he was kidnapped. There were people who wanted this to look like a “common crime” [instead of what really was the issue, stopping a journalist from reporting about a child trafficking ring that involved important people]. He says they threatened his family. When Joel ask specifically, he says he knew that Ernesto Martinez was involved.

Joel: “I knew it!” He tells Márquez that Interpol could have protected his family, but Márquez says that they put big bucks in his bank account to make him look corrupt. Joel: “Do you realize you set an innocent person up for the death penalty?” Márquez says, indicating his death bed, that it must be karma or divine justice.

At the consulate we see Ale put her phone on the desk while Carlos blathers on about her likely role as First Lady of Mexico.

After Ale leaves we see that Ernesto has around his rotten neck a flash drive on a chain. He puts it in his laptop and shows Don Carlos his big plans for child trafficking in the US, calling the children mercancía. He shows safe houses, and a list of clients.

Joel asks if the documents he sent to the US could put the blame on Ernesto. Márquez sadly said they don’t. They are the original autopsy reports and photos. Perhaps they could prove that Sofía Villavicencio was innocent. Márquez begs forgiveness, and Joel takes his hand and tells him that he wishes him luck on the other side of the river.

We then see Lorena shredding everything that Márquez sent to Joel. [And, don’t get your hopes up; we don’t see Joel confront her tonight!]

Carlos and Ernesto talk about Ernesto’s big spreadsheets. They use English words to describe the guy at the top of the pyramid: The Big Man. [So Cummings was just another chess piece.] Carlos isn’t telling Ernesto who this guy is; but he says he’s loaded and powerful.

When they talk about the Todos Somos Jessi movement, Don Carlos roguishly calls Ernesto mas canijo que bonito (more of a schemer than a pretty boy). Carlos tells Ernesto that Big Man wants a subasta (auction) of girls 14-18 years of age, virgins, of course, for his VIP clientele. They must be the best. It will be held in Miami.

LADO – VIERNES – Parte 3 de 3

Andrés gives his lecture on drugs to Tomás. He tells him that, if he finds out Tomás is using, he’ll turn him into the police himself. He asks Tomás if he knows why drugs are so dangerous (besides for your health). He says that they make a guy feel good, handsome, a good dancer, even popular. But, in the long run, what you end up with is a habit. And dying quickly is the least of your problems. Drugs finish you off slowly. Eventually you can’t enjoy anything except drugs, wanting more and more.

Carmen appears to have convinced Eliza not to put Tomás out in the street. [These two are SO realistic as mother and daughter.] Carmen advises her not to discuss Tomás’ problems with Max, but rather with Andrés. Eliza sees Andrés walking outside the bakery and jumps up to follow her mother’s advice.

Andrés is going to give 66 the $20K. [And Eliza has followed Andrés and sees the transaction but can't hear what's said.] 66 sneers at him and says it’s a bad investment because Sunshine will be back in the gang of his own accord. Andrés tells him he might be able to brainwash these …pointing to some gang members nearby; but not Tomás. Andrés tells him his words are empty just like his life and he won’t make it to 30. He ends up telling 66 that he’s listening to a dead man.

Frida insists on doing a television interview about what happened to her without disguising herself.

Just as Don Carlos is leaving the consulate, Ernesto tells him that Paula is a problem. Carlos says he’ll get her off his hands.

Alejandra goes back into Ernesto’s office and looks at what’s on his laptop screen. He comes right in and looks very suspicious. She tells him she’s not interested in his affairs and only came back because she left her cell on his desk.

Alo is a zombie again and Paula is dripping that stuff into her ear again about being her good friend.

Frida is leaving Mark’s house with a bag. Johnny grabs her arm and threatens her. Mark shouts from the other room that he should come. We see Mark, Johnny and Ariadna looking at the TV, presumably the beginning of Frida’s inteview.

Alejandra is at the FBI offices. She tells Richard that her cell has the conversation with Carlos and Ernesto on it and that Ernesto wears the drive with all the info on it on a chain around his neck. Richard tells some other guy to download the last recording.

Richard then apologizes to Ale/Sofi. He tells her that she was right. The autopsy in Mexico proved that Margarita was poisoned.

Lado

Muchísimas gracias, novelera, for this wonderfully detailed and helpful recap. It helped me understand several parts that eluded me, including some of the discussion between Andrés and 66. And, as usual, I'm very happy that you included some of the Spanish, esp. vuelve a este hombre al redil.

I was surprised that the spraying that Paula did this time had the same effect as before, since she didn't spray it directly on Alo. Even though it still worked, Paula looks as if she knows she has to switch her poisoning method: I'll bet she put something extra in the tea she gave Alo.

I hope Frida is smart enough to flee from Mark's house right away, before Johnny can grab her again after seeing the TV interview.

I was a little surprised that Joel didn't tell Marquez that Sofía is still alive. Marquez is about to die and has been riddled with guilt for ten years. I guess Joel is still worried about the secret getting out.

LADO

Steve thanks for the update.

A book club sounds like so fun! I didn't even know we had them here (USA). I joined one years ago in Managua, and it was also a borrowing library, because it was
next to impossible to bring English-reading books into the Country.

Thank you.

"LADO":

Victoria: I KNEW Lorena is hell-bent on keeping Joel in her clutches by shredding the documents Marquez sent him.

Alondra still brainwashed. Time to give up on her!

I see that Cummings was NOT the big dog we had assumed.... just a smoke-screen.

I like to know who "The Big Man" is!

LADO

I'm so embarrassed to ask, but how did Cummings get knocked off?

"EL SENOR DE LOS CIELOS":

Victoria: Begona Morejon is based on former Mexican First Lady Magarita Zavala.

While she's being interviewed by the Female TV News Anchor, who brings up the corruption allegations against her husband, former Mexican President Enrique Morejon..... Zavala 2.0 denies the allegations of course & brings up other scandals engulfing BPN.

Inside Los Pinos, BPN scolds Jaime (who I feel could be the Fall Guy) & Antonio Meade 2.0 particularly Meade 2.0 about BPN becoming a liability for the PRI with the July 1st Presidential Election coming up.

Jaime then gets scolded by BPN & tells him to get out of his office.

Meanwhile, Castillo (who looks like he wants to strangle Zuleta for raping Mayra) does checkpoints with Zuleta inside downtown DF.

Back at Los Pinos, BPN gets annoyed watching Margarita Zavala 2.0's interview with the Female TV News Anchor by calling her a hypocrite & throws the glass of whiskey on the floor & goes off at the TV.

Zuleta watches with slight glee.

HALIMACANDY: Daddy Casilas & Ritula threaten FARC Dude & General Casaloba.

Ambar Maldonado (the SEXY female Venezuelan Army Colonel) is back in Caracas.

Lado

Victoria, Cummings was shot at pointblank range by a woman hurt and enraged by his involvement with child trafficking. But if she hadn't killed him, Pastrana would have. Paula had ordered him to kill Cummings to prevent him from telling the authorities about Ernesto et al. as part of a plea deal. Pastrana was on a nearby rooftop with his rifle and had dead aim on Cummings when, to his astonishment, the woman rushed up to Cummings and shot him.

LADO

Juanita, thank you so much for helping this deteriorating mind!!!

I will miss this novela when it is over. I wonder when it will end?

Victoria, Lado's last day is Monday, June 11. Sin Senos3 starts on the 12th.

WOW, what will I watch next?

2.) Paula

3.) Julian

7.) The Corruot Doctor

8.) Mark

9.) Johnny

10.) 66

LADO

Steve,
I agree with everyone but Julian. I hope he is redeemable.

Lorena is a first class bi*ch, for lack of a better word.

Paula is at the top of my list. I wish she could have an anvil like Lucero in Mañana es para Siempre, Susana González in La Que No Podía Amar, or Leticia Calderon in Amor Bravío.

Maybe Urban could do a "Top Ten Anvils"!!!

"LADO":

Victoria: The Big question is whether Joel finds out Lorena shredded those documents & since Marquez is likely DEAD, I guess we'll never know.

Lado

thanks so much novelera, and what a wonderful job you did getting in all the details like Andres talk with Tomas and with 66.

and what was Eliza about to do walking towards 66, when Rodrigo stopped her, yikes!

I'm sure glad Carmen shut down any thoughts Eliza had of getting Max to help with Tomas, and I like the way she puts her hand in front of Eliza's face indicating the answer to her problems is right there.

I was amazed with Karina's wisdom, that she wasn't going to step in for Julian and take care of his guilt, hmm, is she a virgin under 18 is it, and is Alo?

interesting comment on Paula's fashion, I think this is something that came along with the short hair and the 10 year jump.

how about a little spray for Ernesto, and have him make a copy of the flash drive for the good guys.

I hadn't realized Sofia was checking out Ernie's computer, what I saw was no cell phone , oh there it is behind the laptop (after all Carlos reached over it to get the Jessi button).

I'm thinking that the truth about Irene's death won't really change anything since doesn't Sofia have immunity because she is working with the FBI, although it will go a long way with Joel, and maybe Alo as well, so basically Lorena is just digging a deeper hole.

Novelera, thank you so much for a great recap replete with useful Spanish terms and expressions.

I am still hoping that Max is somehow involved with human trafficking. Otherwise, he is either going to end up with Eliza or die a heroic death, and both of those options are unacceptable as far as I am concerned.

Good for Frida to finally get a bit of her dignity back. Too bad it took being replaced by Arianda and whipped with a belt. Unfortunately, if she weren't replaced by a newer, more compliant bimbo the way she was, she would probably have continued sleeping with Jonny. She surely didn't have any intention to leave before Arianda appeared.
I personally think that this storyline would have had a much stronger impact if she would have realized that she needs to leave on her own, without external factors.

I am in love with the character of Andres and can't understand how Eliza can even think about Max when she has someone like Andres nearby.

Joel not telling a terminally ill man that Sophia is alive to ease his guilt and let him die in peace is despicable.
And this dumber than a doormat moron, that offered Lorena to stay in his flat and allowed her to insinuate to Sophia that there is something between them, doesn't realize that Lorena did everything for him to keep thinking that Sophia is his sister's murderer.

Irene

P.S: I have been terribly busy lately, so Lado recordings had to wait until the week-end, but I read and enjoyed all the recaps and comments. Deb and Juanita, thank you so much for your fantastic recaps.
