Por Amar Sin Ley, 5/30/18 Chapter 61 Miercoles: Consequences

Chapter 61: Consequences
I'm Christopher Mason. We were always told in our childhood science class that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. When we are adults these are often the result either of mistakes or acts of malice. Tonight we will see a variety of people who have to face The Consequences.
  • Elena told Alejandra in no uncertain terms that she did not want Ricardo near her children.
“I don't want any father near my children who doesn't worry about them when it's so easy for him to abandon them for just any woman.”
“Don't be such a manipulator,” was Alejandra's reply.
“Does it look alright that they saw him [???] with another woman?”
“I'd like to talk to them.”
“No, Alejandra. You have no idea what you're talking about. You don't have children. You are not a mother.”
“I don't have to have children to recognize that what you are doing is manipulation.”
“Manipulation or not I will do what I have to to protect my children from whomever.”
“You are protecting them from nobody, Elena. Ricardo loves them. He is incapable of hurting them.”
“He's hurt them. He's hurt them badly.”
“No, you have. By wanting to distance him from your children.”
    “I am sure that --”
“I am sure that it won't.”
“Tell me one thing: You weren't capable of forgiveness over one night with a prostitute. True? Don't tell me you have a mind that's that open.”
“That has nothing to do with this.”
“It has everything to do with this. It's the same thing. If that woman who died were here now to ask your forgiveness could you give it?”
    “You have no understanding –”
“It's the same, it's exactly the same! You want to do something for Ricardo, don't you? Get away from him. That is the only way in which he will be allowed to see the children.”
“You are sick, very sick. From one woman to another, you don't see the hurt you're causing your children.”
    “And you. Is that all?”
    “Goodbye, Elena.”
Alejandra left, knowing she was dealing with a mental case. Elena looked like she realized she was competing with someone who was no dummy.
  • Elena seems to have conveniently forgotten that she and Ricardo were divorced what, a year ago? If she had not forgotten her manners she would have called Ricardo before driving over with the children. She could hardly expect Ricardo to put his sex drive on ice. If this were presented in a courtroom the case would be dismissed.
  • Benjamín went into Leticia's office, where she was reading about Carlos' case on the internet. She wondered why he took it. Benjamín said it was probably because it looked easy... and now it looked like it was getting more complicated. He was glad to not have to worry about this now that he was handling so much money for Carlos. Leticia said she was fed up with having to report to Alonso, and Benjamín said that she only needed to be a little patient because the cases they took under the table should be paying off shortly... and he could give her everything she wanted. He had remembered to close the door so they could risk desecrating her desk.
  • Benjamín obviously hasn't taken a lesson from Gustavo's experience. He knows that at least one person in the office knows of his dalliance and he should be watching his back. Doors that are closed too frequently will be noticed.
  • Alejandra pulled into the parking lot and started to cry. She asked the absent Ricardo why things had to be so difficult.
  • Carlos and Alan entered Pilar's house. Imelda told her mother they had to sell the house because she couldn't stand to live there any longer. Pilar told her to rest and they would go out to a restaurant later. Imelda left her mother alone with the lawyers and Carlos got straight to the point.
He asked whether it was true that she had had relations with Vicente. He had to know before the next audience with the law in case there was proof and his tone made it clear that he meant business. Pilar finally relented and told him that it was true. She called herself an idiot for having done so. Carlos and Alan exchanged glances.
  • Pilar should have given a lot more thought to trying to be Mrs Robinson.
  • Ricardo was having trouble concentrating on work. Alejandra arrived and he told her he couldn't stop thinking about his children. She then told him that she loved him very much and wanted to do the right thing. He seemed to sense that something bad was coming and she then said that she knew how much he loved his children and that she was posing a problem. Therefore she said they should not be together. She was actually accepting the blame for his problem. He wanted to talk to them because he knew Elena was behind this. She said she could not forget the children's facial expressions when she opened the apartment door wearing his shirt. Ricardo had no intention of giving her up, but she said that Elena would not change her mind about this. She said that she could not stand knowing that he could not see his children because of her.
  • Carlos followed Pilar around to get her to talk. She finally said that her relationship with Vicente began on the day of a party. She was asleep when he arrived. It started as a game. Alan asked whether there were any physical messages or voicemails that show proof. She said she didn't know. She had wiped out all the ones on her cell phone in case her daughter would see them. She had been sure that this could remain a secret. Vicente was still behind bars, so what could happen? Carlos told her that this would complicate the case because this will not remain a secret. He was going to have to mount a more aggressive defense but he needed her to do something. He told her she had to tell Imelda everything.
When she balked out of fear he told her that “It would be better for Imelda to hear it from your own mouth than to hear it in court. If his lawyer mentioned it, she obviously has proof.” He further advised her to find the way and do this before he got the next court date. He and Alan left.
  • Ricardo protested the situation, but seemed resigned to losing Alejandra until he could resolve the situation with his children. They kissed and cried before she left his office and closed the door. He sat down at the edge of his desk to catch his breath.
  • What Ricardo should have been doing is going back to the lawyer who handled his divorce. He would know what to do about Elena.

  • Alonso saw a new client, Fausto Olivera. Alonso's success against Marrufo was what brought him to Vega & Associates. He came from a town called San Benito and talked about local political corruption. He said that the corruption was from the top down as the mayor was robbing all the money that should be going into schools and medical care. Alonso told him that he would need a lot more information before he decided on whether to take the case. Fausto told him that the mayor was well-protected and the people were afraid of him. This was going to make it very difficult to get proof.
Alonso said that this would involve a complete investigation of the area which would involve federal authorities. It could also lead to the loss of the city charter. Fausto was eager and Alonso told him to bring as much information as possible for him to study.
  • Tatiana was walking home when she saw Pedro behind her.
She called Juan who told her to into a public place like a store or a cafe until he could get there. She finally got to one. Pedro did not follow her inside.
  • Ricardo and Leonardo talked about the situation. Ricardo even wondered whether he deseved happiness at all. Leonardo told him not to go there in his mind, that this was a temporary situation. The restraining order said that he and Elena had to come to an agreement and he said he was going to work on it. He was determined not to stop fighting for his children and for Alejandra.
  • Roberto and Juan went through the nth round of disagreement over how far the latter should not extend himself for Tatiana. Roberto reminded him that Tatiana was also a suspect. Roberto said he would talk to Sonia about police protection for her and Juan said he would have to go and meet her. He was out the door before Roberto could say anything else.
  • Carlos and Alan talked about the Huerta case. Alan told him that the affair didn't make Imelda guilty and Carlos speculated about DNA. He was hoping that winning this case would vindicate him in the eyes of the public.
  • Roberto and Leonardo talked about Ricardo. Roberto proposed his usual solution which was for Ricardo to relax and go out to meet women. Leonardo rejected this idea, saying that Ricardo would not want that. Roberto brought up his worries about Juan, thinking that he was getting too involved. He was thinking of taking him off the case, but Leonardo said no. Juan had made too much progress on it. Roberto was concerned because Juan was innocent and girls like Tatiana were very manipulative. “And believe me, I'm a pro.”
  • Juan arrived at the restaurant and Tatiana told him that Pedro had been following her. She didn't know what he wanted and she also feared for her son. She wanted to leave the country but didnt have a passport. He told her that they were arranging protection for her and it was likely to begin the next day. She was panicking once again about the intervening time as she tried to appeal once again to the White Knight in him.
  • Fernanda was helping Susanna with the ironing as they waited for Juan. They finally went out.
  • Since Fernanda appears to have competition someone should advise her to read The Joy of Sex, or something of that ilk.
  • Paula and her friends were eating when she got home from the office. They saw that all was not well and she explained that she broke up with Ricardo because of a problem with his ex-wife. Alicia said that this was very common and nothing to worry about but Alejandra said it was much more complicated. She told them she had talked to Elena and she was impossible. Alicia told her to think of this as a test o the elationship and she was to come to them if she needed to.
That made her feel a little better, at least for the moment. She hoped this would not take long.
  • Juan arrived home just before Susanna. He told her that one of their witnesses felt unsafe and that he wanted to bring her home for the night. Susanna was not pleased at the prospect.
Tatiana came out of the next room to tell them that her son was asleep and to thank Susanna for allowing this.
This situation caught Susanna by surprise and that was not to her liking.
  • Gustavo accompanied Leonardo and Roberto to the club that evening. Roberto began dispensing his boilerplate advice to Gustavo although flowers and chocolates would not be enough. He did tell Gustavo that he had to court and win Isabel all over again.
He then drew their attention to the bar because he was going to demonstrate his moves.
  • Tatiana was really slathering it on thick when thanking Juan and praising his generosity that he gave her his room. On the pretext of cooking or washing dishes Susanna remained nearby, listening and saying nothing until Tatiana decided to retire for the night. As soon as she was beyond earshot Susanna quietly scolded Juan for this, eventually saying that this was for one night and one night only.
  • Carlos and Alan continued to discuss the case. Carlos wondered how it could be that Vicente was having an affair with Pilar when he and Imelda had just gotten the same tattoo. It didn't make sense. The doorbell rang and Alan answered it.
It was El Ciego and El Gato. Carlos was not expecting them and El Ciego asked “What, am I not welcome in yor house?”
“Of course,” Carlos said, with no real enthusiasm. He invited him to sit down.
It was evident from there that El Ciego expected priority treatment over all of Carlos' other clients, as he was paying him the most money. Carlos told him that his money was clean, but El Ciego said that he was there for another purpose. Carlos apologized but he had another case that needed his attention. El Ciego told him “As far as I'm concerned you are my employee and you will do as I want.” He poked him in the shoulder while threatening that El Gato would deliver him to the delegation. Carlos was backed into a corner. This man didn't care what happened with Carlos' other clients.

My first mistake is...I don't like to lose a friend.” he said, putting his hand on Carlos' shoulder. Carlos immediately asked him what he wanted. One of El Ciego's men had gotten into a bit of trouble. They left.
  • Roberto demonstrated that he was a smooth operator when talking to the two girls at the bar. One said she had a boyfriend and left. Roberto then persuaded the blonde to leave with him. He bid good night to his two friends after paying their bill. When he left Gustavo commented that Roberto could get anyone. Leonardo replied that Roberto's Mount Everest was Victoria. Gustavo knew that as well, then said he was going to take Roberto's advice and reconquer Isabel all over again. He was sure he knew what to do.

  • A little later Roberto was in bed with the blonde he picked up from the bar, but his facial expressions said that his mind was very much elsewhere.
  • Carlos went to the police station where El Ciego's other employee was in a cell. Carlos asked him what happened and he started talking about collecting protection money from a restaurant owner who didn't want to pay. He was somewhat less than forthcoming and he was looking to get out as soon as possible, even grabbing Carlos' lapel through the bars.  Carlos finally started telling him what to say in court.
When people walk blindly into situations or allow greed to get the better of them, they don't often think of the consequences. Alejandra and Ricardo began a relationship without preparing for what his narcissistic ex-wife would do about it. Benjamín can't keep his client list empty for long without Alonso and the other partners becoming suspicious. Pilar Huerta never stopped to think that her tryst with her daughter's boyfriend could lead to murder. Juan is too naïve to understand that getting too emotionally involved could cost him his sweetheart and his case. Carlos' greed has led him into a criminal's trap. He could end up with a cement overcoat before Roberto and Leonardo discover who really killed the prostitute. Until next we meet Behind Mansion Walls, I'm Christopher Mason.

Comments:
Melinama used to say these telenovelas were morality plays and your and Christopher's talent in summing up the Consequences of Greed and Thoughtless Decisions was an excellent portrayal of just this concept.

And so apt that your first screen shot of Christoper is in front of a Staircase of Doom. Also loved his fire engine red pants and multi-colored bow tie. He's like a wisely malicious little parakeet observing the Human Comedy.

Enjoyed this quip about the perpetually randy Benjamin and Leticia:

He had remembered to close the door so they could risk desecrating her desk.

And loved the summation paragraph:

You and Christopher are a crack team, UA. Hope that your visit to your friend in the hospital went well and that you were able to be a comforting and reassuring presence. We can't "fix" other people's problems [as they do in telenovelas] but we can walk beside them and be there for them as they deal with these cruel challenges.

Thanks for being a great friend and an incredibly talented writer and recapper.

Thanks, Judy. I do my best for my readers and my friends.

In the current situation, my friend has been in the hospital for two weeks. They don't know when she will be strong enough for the proposed treatment, which will have to be at another hospital. Her husband became unemployed about a month ago and has taken to the bottle. He hasn't visited her even once this time. Her son visits her daily but may have a full-time job soon, which means putting off his last two years of college. Her sister lives in Brooklyn and has to take four buses to get to her area (She won't take the subway and I don't know why) so she only visits on weekends. She has no other family in this area. I visit when I can and bring stuff like snacks and bottled drinks.

This would be a great time to win Powerball.

Thought you'd love that Staircase of Doom shot. We have a couple of those in this series but none as spectacular. The one with no banister in Carlos' apartment gave me pause. I think those are scarier.

Now, on to the story...

I looked into the case that the Imelda story is modeled on and it is totally sick. I wonder if the whole truth of it will ever be known.

El Ciego has no boundaries and Carlos is doomed now. I stand on Christopher's prediction.

I also think that Alejandra's' and Ricardo's relationship will not be resolved by the season finale.

This also brings up the issue of Karmageddon, which will be handled a little differently for this series.

UA...I do not watch this tn, but I love the introductory photos you want always post. So Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous !!

"Doors that are closed too frequently will be noticed." Jejeje.

Are they just toying with us with that Staircase of Doom? "Protagonista Talks Out Loud to Self" got me my 11th bingo square, but I'm still missing one for a row...unless someone has been "Hiding in Closet or Bathroom"?

I became hooked on true crime content on Youtube and there is lots of it. Most of it comes from English-speaking countries and that may be because we're more open about it than others are. These photos come from Behind Mansion Walls, which is hosted by Christopher Mason. He is a journalist, photographer, and performer. He does satirical songs about his favorite subject: scandal. New York Magazine has called him "a New Age Noel Coward" and I think that apt.

For some future novela I will have to invent some banter between him and Dominick Dunne. I wish I could have met him.

Wow UA, just to sorry to hear how your friend's husband has, in effect, abandoned her at her time of greatest need. Further support for the importance of female friendship. Happy that her son is manning up and her sister manages to visit. But I love your idea of bringing snacks and drinks. Hospital food is depressing even for the radiantly healthy. For someone ill and in a worrisome situation, all the more so. Kudos to you kiddo.

Sadly, this is not unusual and she doesn't deserve it. Too many people resist treatment and many others hate the religious element in AA. I don't blame those people because the religious element strips them of taking true adult responsibility.

Alcoholism should be a more prominent element in novelas.

Alcoholism seems to be a very prominent element. Alcoholism TREATMENT could get a little more press, though. ;}

As for AA, I would say it's along the lines of G.K. Chesterton's quote about Christianity: "It has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and not tried."

I can think of one telenovela that included alcoholism...I think it was Juan Querendon, and the kooky matriarch ended up going to AA meetings. But given the amount of drinking we see in these stories, and often the depiction of it as humorous, rather than troubling (witness Paula and her two friends who clearly have too much time on their hands); it has not been a social problem these telenovelas take seriously. And I agree, they should...it's a clearly a factor in the domestic violence situations rampant in society.

Thanks for another great read, Urban as well as the glam pics.

I have no sympathy for Ric cuz I believe Benji got it right. Ric should have known/expected this and gotten the visitation as part of the original settlement ala Chihuahua Family. However, we need this as a dramatic motivation for part two of this crazy tn since it keeps turning on spot cases and very little else. I love seeing the parade of our favorite TN personalities in bit parts but I am quickly tiring of the format.

As for AA as a theme, Amarte Es Mi Pecado dealt strongly with alcoholism of one of the protagonistas.

Urban, yet again you managed to surprise by finding a theme that runs through the episode which to me looked like a random jumble of ridiculous plots. Only someone of your talent can write such insightful texts based on PASL's less then stellar material.
Thank you for a superb recap complete with great screen grabs.
I especially loved the following lines :
"She could hardly expect Ricardo to put his sex drive on ice"
"He had remembered to close the door so they could risk desecrating her desk"
"Doors that are closed too frequently will be noticed"
and
"Since Fernanda appears to have competition someone should advise her to read The Joy of Sex, or something of that ilk."

The breakup of Brickandra by way of Alejandra's "noble" sacrifice was foreshadowed a long time ago, and yet I refused to believe until the end that she would be dumb enough to do it. She is a lawyer, for the love of God, she should have understood that the only way for Brick to stay in children's lives is to get visitation rights through the courts, because Elena is a nutcase and getting herself out of the picture is not going to solve anything.
And I can't believe that Brick would let Alejandra break up with him. He is a lost cause and one of the worst galans ever existing in the history of telenovelas. A real man would have patiently explained to Alejandra that Elena is crazy and that breaking up is not going to change anything. But useless Brick just accepted this bulls.it logic as a gospel.
I wanted to slap both of them through my screen during their cryfest.

Irene

P.S : Urban, I am so sorry to hear about your friend's horrible situation. I am praying for both of you to get through this difficult time and am sure your friend finds great solace in your visits.

Good point, Jardinera, about Chihuahua Family -- they may have been kooky, but they weren't stupid!

I will not be tuning in to Season 2 of this mushfest. Without a wrap-up deadline, there is no incentive to make any of the characters less wishy-washy, and we will certainly not get the resolution we crave. (I do love the cameos, though -- such a delight to see Luis Gatica again as Fausto! And I've been a big fan of Alejandro Avila ever since TERESA, although I know I don't have much company there.)

I just looked back at the opening episode recap for the visitation discussion. Ricardo had failed to follow this up... or the writers failed him.

His lawyer had included a proposed visitation schedule which Elena and her lawyer redacted on the grounds that Ricardo is not the children's biological father. That was where we first knew that the sperm donor was out of the children's lives and Ricardo was the only father they ever knew. Elena spouted the same accusations we've been hearing every time they argue. U agree that the next thing Ricardo should have done was to go back to his lawyer to get that straightened out. There may have been little evidence before that that Elena would try to gaslight the children.

If those kids get therapy they can be alright. They are not yet at the point of no return.

It's totally unrealistic that a family law attorney, a pro as far as divorces are concerned, wouldn't do everything in his power to include visitation schedule, even if it means fighting Elena tooth and nail.

But then again, I didn't find a single situation that was realistically portrayed in this telenovela.

Carlos, the second best attorney in Mexico, would never have been dumb enough to get in bed with a mobster, no matter how much money is involved. He is a good enough attorney to earn enough money from the honest legal work that he enjoys. He is very proud of being a good attorney that takes on challenging cases, so there is no way he would agree to spend his lifetime being a mobster's slave and dealing with unchallenging and boring cases that he is going to mostly resolve through threats or bribery.
Moreover,he surely would never have risked getting caught laundering money, and for a miserable 5% commission at that.

And realistically, Vega and Associates would have been out of business long time ago. Almost every single case they have is either pro bono or a favor to family member/friend/family member of a friend etc... They hardly ever get paying cases, and when they do, they ignore them for weeks in order to collectively do nothing on yet another unpaying case (Alexa's). They have three receptionists that do nothing but look at shoes all day long, Juan the criminal defense attorney is getting a hefty paycheck for spending his days in a strip club (all he does since becoming part of Vega and Associates is going to strip clubs, taking care of a stripper and nagging to his acquaintances to obtain reports),the lawyers hire "experts" and waste hours upon hours doing (badly) police work instead of actually letting the police do their job and the amount they spend on Perrier could probably fund a vacation in Cancun.
And now Alonso is going to take yet another pro bono case that is probably going to involve the entire contingent of lawyers dropping their current cases and doing nothing but making phone calls and doing work that should be done by the police.

Irene

UA, Good recap. Rather depressing episode.

We have a martyr.Totally and unnecessary too.
But she just had to be the courageous one.
All because she let that bitch guilt her into leaving The love of her heart. So he
Sees that kids, yaaah for them, then what? He Goes home to an empty apartment with her Garter in a box on his coffee table. He takes if out every now and then to take A sniff of her perfume on it. She
Not only robbed him and herself of happiness, she's robbed those kids of a life with a normal adult woman. So who wins here? No one, not even loonylena cuz
Rick can't stand the sight of her now. He
Just tolerated her because of the kids now it's just gonna be unbearable. O when
It rains there's a monsoon.

Speaking of storms Carlos is in one, and he's going to drown. He's playing the candle, burning the candle at both ends it's not going to end well for him and cousin Alan. And that weasel he invited to join his shakey team of missfits and users. That pilar/Imelda case is a messy one. Well he's a mess so they're a good perfect match.

Juan Juan Juan, he wears his heart pn his
Well meaning sleeve. It's gonna get badly smashed. Moma is right to be concerned,he
Getting in to deep with this woman. Well
He'll learn. Soon I hope.

I like what Leo said about Vicky being bobby' s mount Everest. But before he climbs that mountain hs' s gonna have to stay away from Those hills. And if he ever has a chance with Vicky he better clean up, cuz if not Vicky better make sure he uses 3 condemns. He don't know where those women were before they got To him. Gus said "roberto can get anybody".
Yeah that's not good. I like what Mr Mason says, but I wonder what it would sound like like this,"until next we meet behind the closed doors of Vega and Associates I'm Christopher Mason. But hey
We know they don't close their doors good.
Thank you Urban.

I think the writers don't know much about this stuff and they failed to do their homework. From what I'm seeing in the courtroom scenes there are no spectators. How much would it cost them to have legal consultants who can advise the writers, review scripts, etc? I'm sure some retired lawyer or judge would enjoy doing that.

Carlos' actions can be explained in that he was looking for a quick infusion of cash to a firm that was sinking because he was in the slammer. While Alan is a total screw-up in terms of being a practicing attorney he was right about El Ciego. Now they're in over their heads.

What I'd also love to know is what Mexican viewers thought of these characters. Julian Gil has been typecast for quite a while as a villain, so did they require him to become one by this action? This is not as egregious as the PyP example of rehabbing a truly nasty villain because Carlos started out as being ethically borderline.

UA, 2 Questions; that picture in the
Picture with Mr mason of the dead girl holding the gun, is that her bloody hand in The picture above her holding
The money? 2) is El ciego blind?

1. That is a bloody hand holding a wad of cash. CM's program is about murder among the very rich.
2. El Ciego isn't blind, but he wears sunglasses all the time. For some people that is a power trip because others can't see their pupils dilate. That is an involuntary reaction when something pleases you.

I love these little bits of info you give us UA. And actually el Ciego looks a lot better in those sunglasses and a gazillion times more menacing. Without 'em, he seems somehow naked.

Not to mention that he's short. When he doesn't have the shades on he looks far less menacing than Carlos does.

Thanks, Urban. Fine job. I so wish you were writing this TN.

Too many estupideces for me to count last night. I can't blame Televisa since this is a remake of a Colombian hit, but what in blazes do the writers have against protagonists being cunning? Ale and Ric could've agreed to pretend to break up, so Elena would let him see the kids and the two could investigate (like documenting her overboozing) ways to squash her. At least Olivia picked up a legal tome to try to figure out how to help Ric. Why did the writers bother making these two Excellent Family Lawyers if they fold like a tent at the first blow from Vexlena and just boohoo?

I like the cameos. Never know who's going to pop up. Luis Gatica and Alejandro Ávila, yes yes yes.

I will check out Season 2 though. Maybe the TN got backlash from the Mexican bar and police and they finally hired an expert consultant.

Juan, if a loco who possibly committed murder is tailing Tatiana and you bunk her with your mom and next door to your girl, haven't you put all of them in danger? I vote you for Premio Más Estúpido in last night's episode.

Nina, I love your metaphor of Roberto's one night stands being the hills as opposed to Victoria's Everest. Very fitting. I like the light flirting that goes on between Rob and Vicky, but you are right, he probably picked an STD or two during his sexcapades and even if he is miraculously STD free, I can't imagine him being with Victoria right now. He has a lot of growing up to do before getting his happily ever after.

Urban, I still can't consider Carlos a villain. I like your definition of him. Ethically borderline suits him very well. I think he is ethically borderline even now. He committed a crime by laundering the money for Siego and his professional ethics leave a lot to be desired but apart from that he did nothing villainous. Sure, he plays dirty in trying to get Alejandra back, but it's small stuff and all is fair in love and war anyway, so I can't fault him.

Now, PyP is another case altogether. Eladio was a really nasty villain, a rapist,a wife beater and an animal abuser among other things and his happily ever after with his victim was nauseating and horrible beyond words. I love Fernando Colunga very much, but it was beyond absurd that they turned his terrible villain into a galan.
Carlos' misdeeds are small change compared to Eladio.

Irene

Carlos is controlling. The way he kept stalking Alejandra by waiting outside her mother's home, showing up at her office without an appointment, trying to pry into her personal time, etc., and now taking Elena's case against Ricardo because he knows Elena's goal is to separate them... not to mention that this is a major conflict of interest with regard to V&A representing him in his own case.

I don't see a comfortable way for the writers to resolve this one other than getting him killed because of his involvement with El Ciego.

Notice--Your court reporter, who has been on a short hiatus, is all caught up. She will have some choice comments tomorrow and ready to report on the seen and unseen scenes of this mish-mash on Friday night.

Urban--thanks for that link to the Mexican Murder story. Chilling and tragic.

Thank you all, Urban, Jardinera and Blue Lass, for making my binge watching and reading bearable. So much of what I watched was predictable, but the varying viewpoints made the recaps so much fun.

Irene--How many ruined beanies do you have lined up on your shelf now?

Can anyone clue me in?
How many episodes will the First Season have in all?
When will the First Season End?
When will the Second Season Begin?
May we have more than 2 seasons.
Some characters are not returning for Season 2 (no spoiler) but do they get killed off or replaced??

Victoria--It was posted on an earlier comment page that this "Season" is 75 episodes. Give or take a day or two for pre-emptions, that puts the closing near June 15 or 18. No information on when Season 2 starts, especially if they start a new telenovela in the 10 o'clock slot that lasts over 75 episodes.

Thank you Anita. It's hard when you are watching ahead on another media outlet and know that this novela will have a second season. I try not to comment so I don't inadvertently give things away as spoilers. I'm on episode 81/82/83 the editting is messed up so the episodes aren't true to their time frame.

I'm in love with Roberto. To me, his character has the depth, the sensitivity, the appreciation for almost all things female -- such a charming Don Juan except when it comes to Victoria. He has quite a way to go on making Victoria swoon over his charms.

Victoria. Vicky. Vickie. Vicki. Vikki

I love how the characters and you guys are mainly sticking to Victoria, not Olli, not Ale, not etc. etc.

As a Victoria, I hated that not even my own parents would or could spell my nicknames the same. Thus, as suggested by my 8th grade boyfriend, I went with Vikki, and let me tell you how my future in-laws loved that checkiness. Just toooo outrageous for a proper Dominican wife.

Thank goodness we live in NC now.

I don't think I can take 2nd season of
All this bad law practicing. It's like
They're skimping on the law and jumpin To the next case just for the sake of
Entertainment. And well that is what it is, entertainment.
