Corazón Que Miente, Week 9 (7/30/18) – Monday Kickoff: Little Girl Lost..and Found

Episode #41
*Ed gets an earful from Elena during her visit to his office. She’s ok now if Julio works with Liso. She sees he’s a decent guy, unlike his father. Ed wants him out of that office. Elena points out it’s only Ed who stands to lose if word gets out regarding Julio’s sperm donor. Ed won’t own up to being the bio-dad, but it’s more than obvious to Elena. If his social status and family stability meant so much to him, why did he get involved with a servant. With this she turns and leaves him to his whiskey (which he poured for himself, but didn’t offer her any—blaggard).

*Amalia and Noé continue their spat over Elena. Noé finally and inopportunely admits to having had a moment of emotional weakness toward Elena. Amalia storms off letting him know she’s NEVER had a moment of weakness. (Caution, dearie, it’s coming. Sefiro is quite a charmer when he’s sober.)

*Lety breaks up with Julio because her feelings for Santi are so strong. She prefers to have Julio as a friend. Julio begs for something more. He thinks they still have a chance. She dissuades him of the idea. Julio decides to stop by a bar and get drunk. He’s in a True Blue funk.

*DimDem tries out his “new” personality on Brother Father Dan. Dan doesn’t swallow Dem’s pile of b.s. Dan says he has no evidence Dem had anything to do with Mariela not making it to her wedding, but if there is, he’s going to find it. When Dan thinks of what Dem might have done, it frightens him. Dem says he’d better continue to respect his older brother. Dan says there’s a difference between fear and respect and respect is the last thing he has for Dem. Dem shows him the door.

*Dem intrudes on Al’s solace. Al feels like an idiot, having been used. Dem says he knew it all along, but Al had to find out for himself. Big Hug. Demián will always be there for him.

*Mariela can’t dry her tears. She tells Carmen she wants to call Al and tell him she still loves him and his suffering is all her fault. Carmen says it’s all about Saving Private Leo---wash, rinse, repeat. In the next breath, Mari says the title of the telenovela out loud, but it makes no sense. [This counts more  than Fr. Dan saying it.]

*Fr. Dan is back in church asking heaven to help him.

*Rafie and Ed are together in somebody’s bed. Rafie wants a change of venue, for safety’s sake, like a depa. Conveniently, Ed has an apt. and the lease is almost up. He’ll reserve it for Rafie.

*Carla arrives at Quadrum to see Rafie. Carla has confirmed that Ed has a lover. She overheard Ed talking on the phone with someone, calling her “mi amor” and sending kisses. Rafie brushes it off. Lots of men have chippies on the side and it means nothing. Carla is convinced otherwise. He wouldn’t have used such intimate language. She’s going to find out who it is before confronting Ed. Rafie offers to play detective. Carla is grateful. She doesn’t intend to get a divorce until she sucks him dry of every centavo.

*Rafie calls Ed right away to warn him of Carla’s suspicions. He’ll think of something. He won’t let Rafie go, not after she’s given him a new lease on life.

*Flo finds Julio passed out under her desk. What passes for comic relief is just tedious. Let’s get past this, ok?

*Renata has had her Speedo outfit spray painted onto her body. She’s taken Mopey Al for another bici ride. He begs her pardon for treating her the way he did, breaking her heart over “that other one.” He asks her to be patient with him.

*We’re immediately teleported to a view of the Statue of Liberty. Oh, it’s Leo in what passes as a NYC hotel room, on the phone with Carmen, asking about Mariela. Carmen tells him to wash, rinse and repeat—time heals all.

*Live Witness #2 and his son are contemplating their next move to stay alive. Sonny suggests returning to Puebla—the last place Dem would look for him and Sonny could nose around to learn who was sent to “off” him recently. Meanwhile, Dem and Rog are the bloodhounds who are going to sniff out LW#2 before Sefiro locates him. Dem orders Rog to shut up LW#2 permanently as he did with Dead Witness #1.

*Somewhere in the D.F., a Román Luque comes to see a Don Antonio. We’ve never seen either one before. Don A. is obviously a successful man, according to the furnishings and décor of his very large office. Antonio wants to know if Román has any news…(we wait with Baited Breath)…oh, yes, he found her. She’s living in Puebla; she’s a doctor. He shows Antonio photos of….Mariela. Emotionally, Antonio vocalizes, “You found her, you found my daughter.” Cara de impactada de todos en Viewerville. This is all Román knows about her, but now that they know where she is, it will be easier to find out more details. Antonio tells him to get on it asap and spare no expense.

*Carmen is back with a tearful Mariela. Carmen doesn’t think Al will really do anything to harm Mari. Mari says Carmen didn’t see the look of hate in his eyes. Carmen fans the flames against Dem a little regarding the stolen lands. Oh, my, wash, rinse, repeat. Mari decided to go back to work.

*Antonio’s wife is in the hospital. She’s terminally ill. She’s happy with his news. She wonders what he’s still doing here. There’s nothing more they can do for her. She makes him promise that when she’s gone he’ll go to her. There’s so much time to make up. She tells him his “errores” are all “en el pasado,” and asks if there are photos. [This is supposed to tell us she’s ok with whatever happened and is completely supportive of his search.]

*Sefiro has told Flo to take a hung-over Julio home. She tells him Lety was correct to tell him things wouldn’t work out early on. He can count on her to be there for him. There’s a big hug, observed by a very shocked Elena. Elena scolds him for staying out all night and sends him into the house. Flo asks Elena to forgive him. He felt sick and spent the night in the office. Fortunately, Elena doesn’t make a big stink about the relationship Liso, Flo and Julio have forged in the office—Flo assures her they are a team.

*Liso comes to see Mari at the clinic. Cris walks by as she arrives and they have a three-way…conversation about how Mari treated Al. Liso is so angry with her for deceiving Al and leaving him in pieces. Cris intercedes on Mari’s behalf. Can’t Liso see she doesn’t want to talk about it? Liso continues to run his mouth. He thought they were friends. Why didn’t she confide in him. Above all, he doesn’t believe for one minute the reason why she ditched him and wants the real explanation. Mari says that the only thing important is that Al believed her. Liso says he still doesn’t, but he’s done with her and their friendship. He leaves and Mari realizes she’s losing her friends.

*Fabricio and Lucy, Ed’s secretary, are working. It’s lunchtime. He asks her to have lunch out with him. She doesn’t think it’s a good idea. Ed wouldn’t like to see him consorting with the underlings. They decide to order in.

*Lety meets Santi for their restaurant meal. Now Lety feels underdressed with him. He tells her not to feel that way—she’s perfect as is. His turnaround seems sincere. He says he’s tired of being angry with the folks he cares for. Lety smiles sweetly. He tells her he’s felt so alone, but when he thinks of anyone, he thinks of her. Lety chokes on he wine. Santi rests his hand on Lety’s. Their friendship is very important to him and to wherever it takes them. He wants to be able to be with her, talk to her, tell her things he can’t tell anyone else. He lifts her hand and kisses it. Lety agrees to the friendship and wherever it takes them, her eyes sparkling.

*Fab is boasting to Lucy about his depa in Puerto Vallarta when Ren walks in. She loudly wonders if he’s thinking of taking her there. Fab dismisses Lucy so he and Ren can argue. He’s only making nice with Lucy because she’s the one who will be giving him all the documents and information they will need. He tells Ren her presence only complicates things. She indicates she merely stopped by to bring him up to date on Al. She’s working him. He already has that goo-goo look when he looks at her. The next step is getting close.

Thanks, Anita.

Okay episode.

A hero in the wings (I hope): Antonio.

Friends choose up sides as in any good breakup or divorce.

Thank you for your recap, Anita!

More wailing + gnashing of teeth with Mari & Carmen = FFWD--->

”He’s in a True Blue funk.” Nice. LOL!!!

Hang in there, Fr. Dan!! We’re on your team.

I crossed of "Character travels out of country" on one of my Bingo cards today. Thanks Leo, you're useful for something!

”Cara de impactada de todos en Viewerville.” Cara de impactada, indeed!!! Squee! The patio can't wait to hear "the rest of the story" on this one! (how many episodes will it take? Is there a Bingo square for this?) There is nothing better than an orphan protagonista who turns out to have a wealthy father, one who is likely wealthy enough to buy and sell Dem at the flea market. Shall we hope he may have some previous knowledge of DimDem the scumbag?

Anita enjoyable recap. Something good.
Mari's daddy is daddy warbucks. And I do hope its a enough money to shame dim-wit.
So father Dan is dim-wits bio brother.
Well good to know, and he's not afraid
Him. Better to know.

Those people were never friends if they can just cut and run so easily and not even try to find out what the
Cause of the breake up was. Wait until
They find out baby girl got a rich pa.
Money brings some people out of the woodwork, like rats.

Ren will probably get herself knocked
To hook al in. Hes down in the mouth enough to let it happen. So He's just
Gonna trust his crook of a daddy.
Yeah that's what he'll do.He the other
Half of the supper dupper couple. I hope witnesses #1&2 get away and live long enough to tell the tale of the lie that broke them up.

Thanks Anita

Thanks Anita...just the right amount of wry amusement in your tone as you recounted this very soggy episode. Wash, Rinse and Repeat indeed! And I was equally annoyed by the tedious attempt at comedy with Julio's drunken under the desk antics. Another fast forward moment.

Yes, caras impactadas de Viewerville indeed. Nice that these long-lost fathers are always rich and not down and out drunks. But then those folks wouldn't be paying a detective to find their lost whelp, nor would they care I guess.

Another familiar element was the "inconvenient spouse". This lovely angel abnegada is fine with her hubby looking for his adolescent blow-by. But presumably she'll exit the scene cuanto antés so papa can track Mariela down.

Well, it's good to have a new character because I'm getting tired of the old ones, especially Leonardo. But must say that Lety looked ravishing last night. And as you noted, those eyes were sparkling big-time. In addition to looking pretty, this little actress looks astoundingly healthy. Whatever she's eating, I want some!

" This lovely angel abnegada . . . "
JudyB - thank you for my newest vocabulary word - abnegada! This is why I watch these silly shows.

Episode #42 – Tuesday: The Inconvenient Spouse Expires Conveniently, So Sad - Pt.1
*Sara suggests Al take a trip to get away from his mopiness. Al says he’s going back to work. She does note that spending time with Renata makes him smile. She hopes that it’s not going anywhere else. He assures her it’s not likely.

*Mariela is now the mopey one as she looks at her dried up rose she pressed when she was little. She tells Carmen she thinks of Al all the time.

*Julio gets a talking to from Fr. Dan about his brush with alcoholism. Then he asks Julio about the wall safe. Julio tells him it’s Rog’s and they took it thinking it had something important to Rog. At first, when they threatened to take it to the police, Rog was very agitated. Later on, he didn’t care.

*Santi rolls into Dem’s office at a rather late hour to show him a letter. The NY investors are only giving them a month to pay up. Santi says they lack the liquidity to meet the date. He adds there’s nothing to be done to alter the course of the avalanche heading their way. The moment other investors hear about their default, they’ll accuse him of fraud. Dem promises to get the cash from his investors. Dem asks for Rogelio, then calls Rafie, who left early for some Bedtime with Bonzo. She tells Dem she’s in a meeting and they’ll talk later. He instructs Rog to follow Rafie the next time she leaves early.

*It’s freezing in NYC, attested to by the heavy coats and cold attitudes between Denise and Leo. She complains he hasn’t produced anything for the expo. He complains he’s not inspired.

*Lety enters Mari’s office to ask advice for the lovelorn. She’s confused by Santi’s signals. Although she claims not to be in a position to hand out advice, Mari suggests she let Santi take the lead. Mari admits to feeling responsible for so abruptly ceasing his aqua therapy. Lety is in charge of telling him Cris is taking over and no buts about it.

*Liso also suggests Al take a trip, maybe to the beach. He doesn’t want to go by himself. Besides, Ren is here and helping him dispel his mopiness. Liso warns him not to get involved so soon after the Mari debacle. Al says he has no intentions toward Ren, other than good company, but who knows about the future.

Episode #42 – Tuesday – Pt.2
*The new sacristan, Chino, is going to help Fr. Dan open Rog’s strong box. Also, it seems some friends of his older brother are back in town and his ma won’t let them in the house. They could use some charity. They seem to be hiding from something. Fr. Dan says if they are in trouble with the police, he can’t help them. He would need to talk to them first.

*The inconvenient spouse expires on her own, despite her pleas for assisted suicide. Devoted hubby is at her side as she flatlines. He cries. He’s sad.

*Dem calls Rafie in to ask for a 15 delay in their commitments to vendors. Rafie says no can do. They will stop deliveries, they have workers to pay, it will cost them mucho. Dem says he’s only asking for 15 days and orders her to think up a reason. She tells him it’s his mess, he should do the talking. As head of the company, Dem is ordering her to do it, or has she forgotten she’s a salaried employee. Well, even so, Rafie needs a “logical” explanation they’ll swallow. It’s on him if they don’t accept it. She wonders why this time he won’t talk about the reasons, when other times he’s gotten into a financial bind he has. He changes the subject, suggesting they go home together. She can’t. Rafie has a date with one of her friends for coffee. See ya later, bub. Dem alerts Rog. He gets photos of both Rafie and Ed suspiciously entering the same hotel.

*Over in Ed’s office, he’s leaving early, too. Lucy is staying behind to take care of a few things for Fab. Fab then asks her to come into his office. Hmmm.

*Chino introduces Luis Martin (aka Live Witness #2) and his son, Hernán, who is up to Stage 50, to Fr. Dan. Hernán is the spokesman. He says they are not in trouble with the police, however, someone very powerful in Puebla is trying to kill his father. Luis Martin doesn’t want to name the name, though Hernán urges him to do so. Fr. Dan suggests doing it under the protection of the confessional. Luis Martin shakes his head and leaves, his son behind him, calling to him.

*Al is spending a restless night remembering how Mariela told him why she broke up their wedding. Mariela is having nightmares of the night her grandfather died.

*Day breaks. Breakfast at the Manse is lean and spare of meaningful conversation. Breakfast at the Ferrers is a cornucopia of food and talk. Al is looking forward to another bici ride with Ren and Dem is looking forward to a round of golf with Al the next day.

*Fr. Dan and Chino get into the strong box and only find documents of no importance.

Episode #42 – Tuesday – Pt.3
*Santi catches Ren clip-clopping across the ceramic tile floor. He warns her. He’s not going to permit her to hurt Al the way she hurt him. He’s sure she’s planning to get him into bed and get herself pregnant. She laughs at him.

*Hernán tells his pa he found out the guy who came to see them and they conked over the head is a lawyer. Unconvinced, Luis Martin believes he’s still Dem’s killer with a lawyer’s face. Hernán tells him he’s going to go see him, over his father’s objections. Hernán doesn’t want to spend the rest of his life hiding out. Luis Martin has a change of heart and decides to put an end to this and go back to see the padre.

*Rog is asking some telephone expert to get the phone records for a Sefiro Hidalgo’s law office. Although it’s illegal, he’ll pay well.

*Dressed in RED and ROSE, Al flashes by on his bici and takes a spill. Conveniently, Mari is nearby and runs to see if she can help. For an instant there is The Look of Love when their eyes meet, but then Al rejects Mari’s assistance and hobbles off with Ren patting his back conspicuously. Mari, in her multi-colored leggings, watches them leave.

*Julio tells his mother he kept his job. Oh, and he’ll be late ‘cause he’s taking Flo to the movies. He likes her. Ay de mi, the Sins of the Father and the Mother are visited unto at least the next generation.

*Rog gets the developed 8 x 10 glossies of Rafie and Ed and goes to show them to Rafie. He has her by the long and curlies.

*Luis Martin (aka LW#2) confesses all to Fr. Dan-—how he participated in a scheme to defraud a young orphan of valuable lands that were left to her. For a large sum of money he willingly signed as a witness that the falsified testament was genuine. Not long after, he heard that Dead Witness #1 had succumbed to an automobile accident. He thought it was a mere coincidence until a few days later someone attempted to shoot him at his house. Sadly, it was his wife who died, so he took off with his son and he’s been on the run for 20 years. He regrets it all now. He finally reveals the name of the powerful man behind the attempts to kill him—Demián Ferrer. Poor Fr. Dan. He can’t DO anything with this information.

Thank you for your recap, Anita!

”Bedtime with Bonzo” - so true

Note to Fr. Dan – Throwing one big drunk does not mean Julio is an alcoholic.

I love that Rog is going to blackmail Rafi, because we all know that will be the next step.

Yes! I want Al and Mari to listen to their loved ones, each take a trip, be on the same plane and the same aisle, and checked into the same hotel.

Is there a Bingo square for crucial information told to priest during confession? If not, there should be. (my two cards don't have that....wah! That "oh **** " look on Fr Dan's face was classic.

It's a rainy overcast day here in Columbus. I'm trying to give up coffee and tea and am dragging my butt big-time. And then this depressing episode on top of it all! Bah humbug!

I actually enjoyed Father Dan's rousting of Julio just because...well, he wasn't moping. I mean Father Dan. Julio of course was.

Wow...is this romance with his possible sister going to happen? Or did Mrs. Ed also trip the light fantastic at some point? Sounds like we're going to need an accident and a blood test for donors if this friendship gets hot and heavy.

Thanks Ms. Anita. Much appreciated in spite of my own dragginess.

I had to laugh when Luis LW#2 confessed, and Fr. Dan asked "how long ago",,, and the answer was .... wait for it ...... veinte años! What IS it with telenovelas and "veinte años"??? I have even asked my ESL student I tutor in conversation and she had no clue!!! LOL

Oh, JudyB, it is terrible to go without caffeine. I've had to do it, de vez en cuando, and it is no fun. At all.
Lucky you to get rain. It has been five weeks since we have had measurable rain here. Grass is brown, and I'm hand watering my rose bushes. We were supposed to get some, but it went all around us. And to think, we had 10 - 11 inches in February, wettest Spring in decades.

Doris--About those 20 years--don't know why. What is curious is that Mariela was supposed to be 12--according to the synopsis--which puts her at age 32 now. That doesn't cuadra. To fit into the scheme of things she had to be closer to 6 or 7. Would she have been allowed to go bike riding by herself all over Puebla at age 6 in the late 1990s????

JudyB, feel better soon. Your body will adjust if you must make it do so. Can you nibble on chocolate instead? My mantra is moderation in everything.....a cup of each or either, unless there is a health issue involved, wouldn't be excessive.

I'm tired of all the build-up in CQM. I'm ready for some revelations, so 'cmon Padre, think of something...and Antonio, hurry up, Mariela needs something to juxtapose next to Leo's obsession.

...supposed to be 12 when her grandfather died...

Thank you, Anita. “Inconvenient spouse” was the best!

JudyB, I also appreciated “Mr. Ed possibly tripping the light fantastic” at some point.

I would hope that the imminent bankruptcy will precipitate some interesting situations that might lead to Demián’s ruin. I would hate to see Santiago framed for Demián’s crooked financial manipulations. Here is hoping the kid is smart enough to avoid being the fall guy.

I loved when Santiago called Renata a “golfa”. Nothing quite like that word. . . .

Geez, Alonso a healthy twenty year male just fell off his bike. You would think he had almost killed himself.

Cannot wait until tomorrow.

You know the actor who plays sneaky, creepy, horrid Demian played such a noble character in Alborada. I absolutely loved him. He's very effective in this but it makes me want to watch Alborada again just to be uplifted rather than depressed.

Zombiehood is lifting. I may be fully human again, without the artificial stimulus of coffee and tea. But there were a couple of days there.....yikes.

Jarifa--It was our JudyB who inserted "inconvenient spouse" into the conversation. I just hijacked it.

Recap is being formulated for your reading pleasure. Will post in a little while.

Episode #43 – Wednesday: Ho Hum - Pt.1
*Fr. Dan tells Luis Martin (aka LW#2) he is forgiven for all his sins—there’s no penance he can give that he already hasn’t already lived through. He tells him they can have shelter and he’ll do what he can to alleviate the threat to his life without mentioning his name—ever. Fr. Dan can hardly hold it together. Once he’s gone, Fr. Dan falls apart. His bro is a killer—and it’s his fault for not taking care of him, the way he promised his mother. Mozart rises in the background and moves to the foreground to envelop our tortured padre.

*Rog wants some nookie from Rafie in return for not giving Dem the low down on her and Ed. He even lets her keep the photos.

*At the board meeting, Sara asks about the upcoming audit. Dem and Santi both say it’s under control. Later Dem tells Santi he owes him one. Santi says they’ll get into legal problems if Dem doesn’t resolve this issue. Dem promises a resolution and Santi won’t be in any trouble. He pours his false pride all over his son, who looks surprised and suspicious.

*Almita is off the church—by herself. Noé won’t let her go by herself. He drops her at church and then watches as she meets Sefiro and they go off for a bite to eat. She shares her suspicions about Noé with Sefiro. He’s not much help in the marriage department, other than to be there for her. He does tell her that nobody is perfect. Perfection is only attained in heaven. Meanwhile Noé, hurt and puzzled goes to see Elena to tell her about Alma seeing someone. They assure each other that nothing happened between them, although Noé concedes there were some feelings that passed between them. He just wants to be friends. She’s ok with that, but shoos him away.

*Ren meets Al for coffee. She’s so sweet, I almost believe her—and so does Al. Al says a variation of Corazón Que Miente for all of us to hear. He can’t believe he agreed, no promised, to get back all Mariela’s lands in exchange for one kiss.

*Sara comes to see Mari at the clinic. Sara hauls off and whops Mari for what she did. She tells Mari she deserves it. Mari agrees. She says it’s true, she planned the whole thing. Sara can’t believe she would treat Al that way. If she really planned it, she should have been straight with Al and told him earlier, not leaving him at the altar at the last minute. Sara will make Mari pay. She exits. Lety comes in to comfort Mari. Cris arrives and the two call out Mari on her “feelings” for Leo. They can see plainly it isn’t true. She refuses to talk about it. No one can know. (That ought to be a red flag to Lety and Cris to start investigating—no one can know WHAT?)

*Flo and Julio bother Liso’s concentration at work. Liso figures something is going on between Flo and Mr. Snow-Topped Mountain Village. He’s only surprised it took so little time to get over his sister’s past troubles. Flo is ready to make peace with her parents, though she has no intention of moving back home.

Episode #43 – Wednesday - Pt.2
*Fr. Dan pays Rog a visit at home. He’s bringing back his strong box. Dan says the box holds secrets. Sooner or later those secrets will come out. Perhaps the secret has something to do with Lucía’s death. Rog insists that he has an alibi. Dan lets him know that he doesn’t believe him. He knows when someone is lying and puts Rog on notice.

*Rog got what he wanted from Rafie. Instead of a swanky apartment, Rafie gets a cheap motel and cash to pay for it.

*Stage Fifty (formerly known as Hernán, but really Armando) calls Sefiro. First he wants to make sure he doesn’t work for Demián Ferrer or Quadrum. Sefiro assures him he doesn’t. Armando says they have to talk face to face about his pa, Luis Martin. He gives Sefiro their last name—Vallarino (I think I heard that right). Sefiro’s eyes get big.

*Mari is ready for her next patient. Lety says it’s someone new, someone from somewhere else. It’s Antonio Milán (I think I heard that right). He’s overcome with emotion as he gazes on his little girl lost and found. (I can’t wait to hear the story. I wonder if he’ll be able to work in – Character Says Title of Show, or Dramatic Moment Enhanced by Thunderstorm.) He tells her he left Puebla 25 years ago (confusing the timeline again). She gives him a serious but not fatal diagnosis, ventricular fibrillation. It’s treatable, but she wants to do more studies. He thanks her and holds her hand a little too long. Mari is a bit creeped out.

*Sara comes to see Carmen at the Manse. She tells her exactly what happened when she went to see Mari. She wants an explanation. Carmen declares she knew nothing about “it,” but though Mari and Leo have a special relationship, they certainly weren’t lovers. Sara doesn’t believe her, living, as it were, in the same house. They both regret their friendship has to end this way.

*Flo calls Carla. They agree to meet, but Carla will be alone. Things between her and Ed have gone from bad to worse. Flo pins her mother to the wall purporting to live with all her conservative values. It was all a farce. Flo sees how unhappy her mother has been for a long time. She should get a divorce and live happily ever after. Carla will think about it.

Episode #43 – Wednesday - Pt.3
*Carmen tells Mariela all about Sara’s visit and what she did to her at the clinic. She insists this all has to end. She sees Mari sadder every day. Mari would like it to end. She tells her about seeing Al that morning with such hate in his eyes.

*Al, meanwhile is wondering to his grandmother how he can love and hate someone at the same time. When Mari touched him that morning it was electrifying. He thinks about her all the time. He wishes he could just feel nothing. Sara tells him Mari doesn’t deserve any of his feelings.

*Fab has just gotten some nookie from Ren. He wants to know what the hold up is with getting Al into bed. He says men only think with their p.j. bottoms off. Ren says Al is not like that. She knows when and how. He congratulates her on being the professional snake she is. Ren says to leave her alone. He tells her to hurry up.

*The crooked phone expert hands Rog the list of calls going to/from Sefiro’s office. Is CPE sure? Yes. Rog goes down the list. He recognizes the last name of one, but not the first name, Armando Vallarino. He’ll check into this.

*Dem and Rafie have lunch together civilly (saints be praised). He wants to know how things are going with Ren and Al. She wants to know what financial difficulty Quadrum is in. Ed interrupts with a text message. Pretending it’s a colleague, Rafie texts back that she can’t today, maybe tomorrow.

*Ed, on the other end, gets a call from Flo. He agrees to see her the next day. Snow-Topped Alpine Village Julio volunteers to take her and pick her up. She agrees. Next day, he’s turned Brownish. While waiting for Flo to arrive, Ed gets a curious call from Rafie. She’s upset, she wants to talk. He blows her off until later. The father-daughter meet-up does not go well. He resents Flo telling him how to run his family, gets really loud and storms out. Julio comes to rescue her.

*Marcia drops some documents in Rafie’s office. Rog and Rafie enter. He wants Round 2 on top of the desk. Uuuyy, Marci is under the desk. Anyway, Rafie throws him off—-not here goon. Marci is saved from an awful lot of grunting.

Julio comforts Flo. They are about to kiss. (Ay yi yi, who will save them from committing the heinous crime of an incestuous euuuw reaction from the Patio?) Suddenly Ed reappears and yells at both of them to stop right there. (Who said, “Whew?”)

Thanks, Anita,

Another slapfest at the hand of Sara! Got to love them.

At least Rafaela didn’t have to pay for the room. That would have been the ultimate insult. Not much sympathy for her.

Antonio could have been less creepy seeing Mariela . If I were her I would be writing him a referral to another M.D.ASAP.

Noé is just annoying since he can’t seem get it.

Another entertaining episode.

Another MADDENING episode for me! So dreadful to see Sara smacking doleful Mariela around, and verbally smacking Carmelita as well. The only upside was seeing Rafaela have to submit to Rogelio's oily assaults.

Enjoyed your reference to Mozart as Father Dan agonized at the foot of the cross Anita. Every once in a while the music is spectacular.

And another bright spot, for me, was when Florencia, speaking with her mother, used one of my favorite expressions...(don't actually USE it, but really like it)....

"era de dientes para afuera" to talk about the parents/family being hypocritical. It's such a
powerful visual image.

And I always like to see folks trying to mend fences and Flo is batting .500 at least. Eduardo is being the typical heavy-handed dad, even without the adultery, but I was relieved that he stopped the possible incestuous kiss. Evidently there have been a few cases of children conceived by artificial insemination falling in love with a sibling, so such tragedies happen in real life, not just telenovelas.

But hey, we have enough manufactured tragedies in this one to last us for a while. Thanks for keeping us up to date on the romantic mayhem Anita.

Thank you, Anita, for today’s recap!!! Such a nice reward after working up a sweat (~blech!~) vacuuming all the floors and stairs.

Rog may have let Rafi keep the photos, but he’s got the originals on his hard drive/disk/cloud/whatever.

Well, it has been a while since we had a big ole slap to someone’s face.

That “tip” Rog left on the bed for Rafi was just says "you tramp". And only 100 pesos? isn’t that like $5 ??? I couldn't see what was under that. Yeesh.

Karla, you know your marriage has tanked when even your daughter suggests you get a divorce.

Was something cut from this episode? Where/when did papa Antonio have his tests done that Mari was reading? Hopefully he is not three steps from death's door, himself. And he sure didn't waste any time getting down to Puebla (?) after his wife dies. Gah.

I need "hiding in Close or Bathroom" or "dramatic moment enhanced by thunderstorm" to get a Bingo on my card (#10) My other card, #9, is a real dud. LOL

JudyB: "era de dientes para afuera" - does this mean like LIP SERVICE?? Or is it way stronger than that? Do you remember the full sentence said by Flo? I never heard this before but kind of an interesting expression!

I didn’t write down the preceding sentence Amo, but it was something like...you always talked about the importance of values and family but.......

My dictionary says “ hablar de los dientes para afuera” = to not mean what you say. So possibly “ lip service “ could be used in a similar way.
The expression in Spanish always makes me think of someone talking with a big fake smile on his face.

Doris, so impressed that you vacuumed stairs. I hate doing that!

"de dientes para fuera" --- I had to Google this, too. Here is what I found:

In effect, to do and say things "de dientes para fuera" is a most Mexican thing, it is a combination of "paying lip service" and having double standards.
*and*
The dientes para afuera: not really, without real intention.

What I take away from this is the idea that when we run into someone and we say "let's get together for lunch sometime", while we never really intend to do that. I learned from my adult ESL conversation classes that this drives non-Americans crazy when their own culture is straightforward and more honest about such things.

Love these language discussions.! Thanks for adding those extras Doris.
