Por Amar Sin Ley, 7/3/18 Chapter 89: A Turn of the Tables

    • Benjamin begs Leticia to call Carlos Ibarra to represent him.  Obligingly, she does call him.

    • At a nearby watering hole, amidst jolly jostling dancin’ fools, Alejandra, Roberto and Victoria pat themselves on the back for successfully playing Cupid.  Rob looks at Vicky and suggests it’s too bad others who’ve been in love with each other for a long time are prevented from enjoying mutually their relationships.  He adds he meant it regarding Ale and Ricardo’s situation, nothing more.  She comments that what they had was nice but she’s given up on this and has determined Ric’s not in her deck of fortune-telling cards.  She’s going her own way and leaving Ric in the dust.

    • Gustavo says good-bye and thanks for the celebratory din-din Isabela toiled over to celebrate his win.  They make plans to go to Luis’s game(?) the next day.  They share an unsuspected and passionate kiss good-bye.  He leaves but with the biggest sh!t eating grin we’ve seen on his face for a long time--if ever.

    • Carlos drops in late night to speak with Benji behind bars.  Benji’s desperate and Carlos scolds him for not staying out of sight like he told him to do. He’ll defend his ignorance of where the money came from, but it won’t be easy peasy.  AND, under NO circumstance is he to mention “our business partner,” a.k.a. El Ciego.  Don’t have to ask Benji twice about that.  Ben grabs at Carlos through the bars, though, and warns him not to leave him hang out to dry.  Carlos tells him not to worry. (And maybe quit that crazy monkey mambo, Benji, while you’re at it.)    Carlos needs him (er...his services).

    • The next day, Carlos comes to Alonso’s office to give him the news about Benji and asking Carlos to take on the case.  The caveat is that Carlos won’t take the case since it will affect their business relationship, that is, if Lonnie tells him not to.

    • While we assume Lonnie’s deliberating, Benji’s left bouncing against the walls of the courtroom cage and nearly jumping out of his skin--while making ours crawl-- all because it’s close to trial time and Carlos hasn’t shown up.  The court clerk offers a court appointed lawyer but Benji refuses.  Leti continues dialing Carlos’s voice mail.

    • At breakfast Paula broaches the subject of Ale and Ric rocky relationship.  It's not just on the rocks, Ale says.  She’s come to the realization that  any Ric Romance is now taking up space in Davy Jones' locker.  He’s with his children and is still taking care of his ex.  Anyway, she thought by now life would be different: she’d be married to Carlos and thinking of starting a family.  Well, fat chance for that.  Paula admits it’s a shame.

    • In the courtroom, Lon appears and stops to chat with Benji. (Will somebody there give the dude a banana, already?  His gyrations are making me dizzy!)  Lon says he's there to show that the law firm was totally unaware of Benji’s shenanigans.  He tells Ben to (stop the whining?) and face up to his crime like a man.  Benji mentally presents Alonso with a one-finger salute. Lon says he’s there to see that he gets a fair trial and that “justice is done.” Suddenly Carlos flies into the courtroom.  He lies about finding Lon outside another trial as the reason he’s so late.  Anyway he’s prepared to give Benji--ahem, his best and only cleaning resource-- the best defense possible.

    • The trial starts right after Carlos takes his seat.  Bottom line, Carlos tells the court that Benji may have taken money from Ramiro Dorantes, but he didn’t know it was the stolen money from the condominium buyers.  Lety saves her skin by testifying they were lovers and anything she was given was simply a token of his affection.    The judge buys Carlo’s argument (yawn FF>>)  over the prosecuting attorney and gives him time to gather the evidence needed—a small reprieve.

    • Back at Vega, The Lil’ Rascals Gang all celebrate Leonardo and Olivia’s engagement.

    • On another side of town, Mr. Clean is following Gus and his family around town.

    • Once alone again in Leo’s office, Leo and Oli discuss his job offer in the EEUU.  She thinks it’s too good for him to give up and they agree he should take it and of course she’ll go with him.

    • Rob invites Vicki to be his date at LOli's wedding.  She plays hard to get.

    • Exlena pays a surprise visit to Ric’s office and tells him after way too much apologizing and self-recrimination back and forth that she wants Ric to legally adopt her kids—their kids.  Of course he agrees.  (For me, not quickly enough, though.-- Now, if he’d just decide to take a smaller condo in that building…..)

    • Sonia’s got her a Hangin’ Judge to take the case up again of Patricia’s Linaris's death..  Warrants have gone out to arrest Alan, Carlos, and Tatiana.  Carlos and Tatiana show up at the jailhouse, as does Pedro's attorney, assuming Pedro's there somewhere also.  Curiously, we don't see Alan yet.....

    • Tatiana quickly calls Juan who races to her defense--literally.

    • At the same time Leo has gotten the bad news about Carlos and he rushes to inform Rob.  They run into Ale who determines to go with them to the jail.

    • At the jail/police station,  Juanito must have gotten Tat off lickedy split cuz she gets to go home and is all smiles.  Rob and Leo walk in and Rob notes with mucho disdain Tat hugging Juanito a bit too long while saying "thank you" for being her white knight.   (Viewerville now nixes any hope of Juanito getting his own desk, let alone a private office of his own at Vega.)

    • Ric gives Vicki the good news.  (And so goes the impossible dream of making legal history.)

    • And, after Benji’s hearing, Leti gives Alonso her resignation.  She’s going to Spain to take up some specialty course. (Viewerville presumes it’s in law.)  She cannot stand getting the evil eye from her colleagues at Vega any longer and wants to put this bad experience behind her.  They hug and he tells her she can come back anytime to get her job back.

    • In Sonia’s office Leo asks why the case is being reopened.  Sonia’s managed to convince another judge to look into it and give her standing again--Someone who wants justice done.  And, BTW, all the evidence still points to Carlos as suspect numero uno. Sonia cracks her best cracked pot counselor smile  to the discussion.

    • Ale pays a visit to Carlos and admonishes him to tell the truth this time –the whole truth and if he has anything at all to confess, to do it, period.  He is offended and tells her it’s like living this bad experience all over again.  First, going to jail for months and losing her, then getting out and scratching to pull his reputation out of the mud and to save his law firm.  Now it’s back to square one and he’s had it!  She again has doubts about him, though he’s innocent!!   (Compartmentalizing crime works well for Carlos.)  He loves Ale but doesn’t appreciate her scolding him.  Now she has doubts about his integrity.  He would rather not see her again.  Ale takes the hint and leaves.

Great recap, as usual. Thank you, Jardinera.

But .... but .... since when, unless the evidence shows multiple people committed the crime, do they arrest ALL of the suspects??

And, please, someone -anyone - start a crowd fund and get Victor Garcia (Juan) some much-needed acting lessons. To say he overacts is to say the Hawaiian volcano is a little warm. His histrionics have worn me thin. Almost more than all the (non)legal shenanigans on this tn ..... almost.

Good work, Jardinera.

Alejandra is immensely foolish about men. However, at least she walked away from Carlos this time and while I can't blame her for not wanting to deal with Elena anymore she had every good reason to fight for Ricardo until she decided to be a wimp.

I can't believe that Benjamin hasn't ratted Carlos out; maybe we have to wait until Season 2 for that.

Maybe they'll give Leticia's office to Juan. He's earned it.

Thank you Jardinera,
Your recap saved the day!!! I was at my daughters all comfy waiting to watch my fave novela. I was apologized because Dish my daughter’s cable informed me about that Univision would not be showng programming. Whaaaa, so disappointed. So thanks for your recap.

Well, I guess Leo/Oil are not going to be part of series 2. Or Leticia. Or Gus cause he is dead man walking. Sad.

Jardinera and Urban, thank you guys for your recaps, which I am sure are as amazing as always.
Unfortunately, while lounging on my comfy couch watching Corazon que miente this Sunday, I was informed of a work-related emergency that required my immediate attention and I have been spending every waking hour working ever since.
Therefore, tv in general and telenovelas in particular are out of the question for the foreseeable future and I, unfortunately, will only manage to read your wonderful recaps sometimes during the week-end (hopefully).
I hope to be able to comment on the finale, but just in case I won't be able to, I would like to express my gratitude to our talented recappers and wonderful commenters.
Urban, Jardinera, Anita and Blue Lass- thank you so much for sharing your talent with us and making the experience of watching PASL so enjoyable and fun. Please know that I kept watching this beanie-ruining, mind-liquifying, logic-defying, diabetes-inducing horror (o.k, I am exaggerating a little bit, but let's be honest, it's not exactly a masterpiece)only because of your witty, clever, funny, fun, profound, thought-provoking and entertaining recaps and the fantastic comments provided by our dedicated group of commenters.

Thank you, my patio friends, and may we meet again.

Irene

I'm sure y'all are already aware of this, but just in case, here's what my local Univision affiliate had to say about the dispute with Dish network:

So basically they're still trying to work out a deal, but they feel like Dish network doesn't value the Spanish-language stations as much. If you're a dish subscriber, they recommend you call 1-800-500-4252 and let them know you want Univision back.

Jardinera: I went LOL on your "Din-Din" reference.

Good recap. And all the good points R hit too.

They are gonna hit Gus or the wifey &
Child. I think it will be Isabella. I
Think that would hurt him more than if
It were him. And maybe Luis would be
Hit but survive. Gus is so happy, that
Would certainly break his heart.

So letty is leaving, good for her. Get
Away from all that foolishness, clear
Your Head, free your mind, get your life on Trek again. And stay the hell away from somebody else's husband. Find a
Nice middle aged man, lots of money. Somebody like Mr Darcy. On hallmark.
Well somebody needs to be happy in this tn.

Our little loonylena has grown up. So
We'll loose the "loony".Put it up just
In case it may show up again in the 2
Season. She's prettier when she's nice nice. I hope it last. For rick's sake.

Ally is a wimp. She gives up to easily.

If Carlos wasn't such a crook I could
Feel sorry for him, but no. He's a bad
Crook. And he's in danger of being rat
-ted out by Benny. He just really screwed himself up. Thats also sad. He didn't Have to. Tho he is a good lawyer his Practices were a bit very questionable. Anyway.I'd like to know what happened To his parents. Why'd his aunt raise him. And was she sane?

Thanks Jardinera. I hope everyone is having a good 4th so far,no over cooked ribs, Or hands and other body parts. Happy 4th yall.☆☆☆☆☆

Thanks, Jardinera. You're a doll to fit us in on the holiday. Great recap. So Lettie is going to Spain. Good for her. She can start over where her rep is untarnished. Not sure why ale turned on Carlos this time. The evidence is unchanged. Ric moving on another floor of Elena's building would be good, except Elena and the kids would be too clingy never leaving him alone to act like a bachelor.

Thanks Jardinera - great as usual. I cannot view Univision as have Dish. 5ftLatina thanks for the update. I do not have the patience to follow each side blaming the other. It seems a long and complicated mess with fault on both sides that I have not followed. It seems that one can have access to Univision's streaming service even if one does not have a contract with another provider. So it seems that they can cut out Dish and the cable companies. DISH is cheap for me as I do not have cable. I'll decide what to do if this war continues.

Thanks for info. My mind was reeling last night and I didn’t understand their explanation.

Lynette, my sentiments too.
At my home I purchased Spectrum app for $21.
I get univision, Local channels and get to pick 10 other premium channels. Like hallmark, cnn, msnbc, natl geographic. I am pleased with it, except my mom cant get hang of it. I will break down and subscribe to cable for that reason only.

Cant believe it. Mom informed me rain and thunder at my house and power is down, daughter has dish, so no novela. Missing it for two days!!! What a dilema.

Ah Jardinera, you slay me. Sometimes I don't know where you come up with these expressions, but they are great....

"She’s come to the realization that any Ric Romance is now taking up space in Davy Jones' locker."

Crazy lady, please donate your brain to science when you're done with it. I get such a kick out of what you come up with. Think I already mentioned I've been re-reading some old Fuego recaps as a way of holding vigil for our dear friend Carlos, and yours have been so funny. Ditto for Julie, Nickster and Ferro before he bailed. So glad I found this site, period.

Now, even though I have a wee bit of a crush on Mr. Clean/el Gato, I am not happy with what he's planning for Gustavo. Depressing to watch this unfold. However for those who find the Oli/Leo romance gag-worthy sweet (not I, hopeless romantic that I am) seeing them trip off into the sunset won't be painful.

And I agree with you, Benjamin's nervous contortions just about gave me the hives (urticaria...just learned that word on Corazóm que miente). Crazy making for sure.

Irene, glad you checked in. Was wondering if you were trapped in a cave along with that hapless boys' team. Sorry you have such a heavy workload, but it speaks to your competence and importance in the field that you're in.

Happy Fourth to one and all. We are so blessed to be here. "Our cup runneth over"

Thanks, Jardinera! That was fun.

This may be my last novela for a good long time. Since it looks like none of the upcoming shows offer anything unusual

So what does this red string bracelet mean or stand for

Would anybody be able to clue me in on why so many telenovela actors, men and women are weating bracelet
