Corazón Que Miente, Week 9 (7/30/18) – Thursday Update: Bang-Bang, the Gun Goes Off--Again

Episode #44
*Poor Julio, on the losing end, he'll soon strike out with Flo AND gets struck by Ed. Flo stands her ground against Ed, though he screams that their relationship is an aberration, just because he says so. She storms out of the restaurant.

*Rog tells Dem all about the call from a stranger whose last name they know—Vallarino. Dem feels the noose tightening around himself and Quadrum. Rog will follow up.

*Fr. Dan visits his superior. He needs help with a possible future crime told in confession. Fr. Superior tells him he should only occupy himself with saving souls and let the police take care of crime.

*Rog is on the job, photographing anyone who comes to Sefiro’s office. He sees someone he doesn’t recognize enter.

*Julio has followed Flo out of the restaurant. Flo tells him she feels something for Julio, but doesn’t know quite what it is. Julio thinks it’s love. Flo says it could be, but there are several types of love. Flo says they should take it slowly. There’s a chaste kiss and a hug that’s acceptable for siblings.

*Ed brings Elena into his office and calls her on the carpet about the Un-Kiss. He leaves it up to her to separate Julio and Flo. She thinks the best thing to do is to tell Julio the truth about his paternity. Ed is still denying it, but he tells her she can’t.

*Marcia drops in on Rafie. She’s on her way to see Dem to report a sexual harassment incident she overheard going on in the board room. She tells Rafie she only wants “justice,” that is, a raise in her salary.

*Sefiro tells Armando the story of whom his father defrauded. Yes, his pa might go to jail, but he’s already been in his own prison for years. The important thing is to put Dem in prison.

*Liso and Mariela have coffee. Liso still doesn’t believe her sh*t story of why the derailed wedding. She can’t tell him anything else. If she does, someone else’s life would be put in danger. Liso wants to know whose life. She can’t say and she goes to pieces right there. He tells her Al is in pieces over this and he can tell she is, too. He’s determined to find out the real reason.

*Rog is still on the job. Armando, Mr. White T today, leaves after shaking hands with Sefiro on the sidewalk. Darkness falls. Rog is still on the job. He sees Armando and Luis Martin arrive. Eureka, it is LW#2. He plans to make him DW#2.

*Elena calls Julio. She has him break a date to tell him something very important. She does, in detail. He doesn’t take it well. Elena wishes it weren’t true. She never told Julio because Ed never wanted to recognize him. He jumps up to leave. He must tell Flo.

*Rafie comes to see Ed. He tries to jump her bones no sooner than she steps over the threshold. He’s furious when she tells him Rog knows and what he wanted to keep his mouth shut. He slaps her and then asks forgiveness. She appears to give it. They scheme because Marcia knows, too. She can take care of Marci, but there’s only one way to take care of Rog. She gives him a knowing look. They continue to argue and scheme. She up and walks out on lily-livered Ed, after a well laid slap, knowing she’ll have to take care of Rog herself. She tells him never to darken their depa again.

*Armando and Luis Martin are nervous when they enter Sefiro’s office. Flo tells them he’ll be back in a minute, but they should sit and wait while she calls him. Before the Patio can say, Holy Cow, Rog enters, gun drawn. There is a scuffle and a struggle for the gun. It goes off. The bullet hits the bull’s eye, square in the center of Flo’s chest. She falls backward across the desk. Does she expire? Mozart says so. [Uni leaves us in suspense to sell us stuff.] Luis Martin gets the gun, threatens Rog and he and Armando run away. Rog looks around and skedaddles. Sefiro arrives and chases a male figure down the street. He returns to the carnage. He looks at Flo then looks up at heaven. Guess she’s dead; no need to call 911.

*EMS and the police have arrived at Sefiro’s. They take the body away. Sefiro is questioned. He was on the phone and heard a commotion and a pop pop. When he returned he found Flo dead. He chased a man down the street. Julio learns Flo is dead. He cries that he was about to tell her she was his sister.

*Chino tells Fr. Dan the Vallarinos are both gone. They left a note. It says there is a dead woman. They hope Padre can catch the killer because the Padre knows who it is.

*Dinner conversation at the Ferrers, minus Ren and Al, revolve around Renata, Alonso and to a certain extent Mariela. Dem is happy to see his son coming out of his funk to have some fun. Santi thinks Ren is worse than Mariela and says so.

*Al begins to woo Ren over candlelight, wine and roses.

*Mariela mopes in bed. Fr. Dan calls to check up on her. She’s not ok. Everyone else in the house is ok.

*Julio accosts Ed in the street. Ed doesn’t want to talk to him. He’s offended by Julio using the familiar form, tu. Julio says, why not, Ed’s his father. Ed thinks he’s there for money. Julio tells him about Flo.

*Santi calls Lety. He needs to see her, NOW. He doesn’t feel well; he needs someone to talk to. She’ll be right over.

*Sefiro comes to tell Liso the bad news.

*Armando and Luis Martin talk. Armando tries to make his father see that fleeing isn’t the answer. Dem will continue to follow him.

*Mariela reads on social media that Leo’s recent exhibition tanked. Carmen tells her Denise just called to let her know that after the reviews, Leo just up and disappeared.

*Al asks Ren forgiveness for being a jerk (Ibid. #41,42,43). He was blind to what was right in front of him. He wants to fix things now and asks her to be his novia. She looks longingly at him, bats her eyes and says, NO, she can’t accept. (Shoot, I was sure she’d accept. Tomorrow, will she just want to tell him they need to take it slowly, ‘cause we know for sure she isn’t going to tell him she’s married.)

Thanks, Anita.

Yes, that was a big surprise when Renata turned Alonso down. What is a little bigamy among thieves? 😂🤣😅 Fabricio wouldn’t care as long as he gets his money..

Don't you think Fab cares a little bit? She did mention needing a divorce before marrying Al awhile back and he didn't seem very enthusiastic about it. We still don't know what they did to make them get married, unless it was for Ren not to be able to testify against him--although he served time in prison anyway. He didn't seem to hold a grudge, other than--you're right--it's all about the money.

BTW, Fashionistas--In my latest catalog from El Fin de La Tierra, there is a lineup of Sara-inspired shawls and sarapes. Who knew!

Thank you Anita, for your recap! I've only watched half of this episode, so far.

Nice that Julio finally knows who his father is.
I cannot believe they killed off Florencia!
I fear for the lives of both witnesses to Dem's crimes.
There should be a bingo square for Monsignor/bishop tells priest confession of crime cannot be repeated. Remember how the bad guy Fernando kept taunting Pad Tad with that in FELS? Yeesh!

Anita - I got that same F de la T catalog a few days ago and thought of Sara when I saw those. They must be in style. LE and Talbots catalogs are my fashion guides. LOL

doris, yes, Florencia’s death was a shock for me, too. If they show a viewing/funeral it could provide some interesting confrontations.

Fin de la tierra—I will have to give a look.

Thanks Anita. Rog is rather slopy. He
Is the worse hit man in the history of hit men. Mr&Mrs. Smith would be so imbarrassed to call him comrade in murder.

OK, I think that there should be an exception to the rule. A crime has been committed, people are dead. You are a man if God. God is for right not wrong. My opinion y'all. I don't not
Understand why there would be a problem to Go to the police, OMG, come on now.
And the preacher don't save the soul God does. Again my opinion y'all. If I
Was him I'd go to the police so fast the draft would split the red sea.
But the problem with that is don't rog
And demwit have a cop in Their back
Pocket? If so they'd find out and find a way to stop the padre. They don't seem to mine killing people at all.

Now is ed Flo's daddy from another moma or is it Julio? Either way its
Messed up. End planted the seed but didn't want to claim the crop. Bad dad
Ed, bad dad.

Al fixin to get in a mess. And she playing hard to get, oh wait she's a
Married woman. Who's the poor schlube
She married? Dont matter she's about to become Al's problem now. I thought
That secretary person was blackmailin
That I can't think of these peoples names. I thought they saw her lookin at them but I guess not. She should be careful, rog might miss and kill her, lol.

Mari's dad bombed at his showing and
Just disappeared. Sad. So she doesn't know She's adopted, interesting. So many secrets to be exposed. J only saw some of this, but I'm glad I got to read the recap.

Thanks Anita.

Nina--This is sidebar worthy: Ed planted the seed but didn't want to claim the crop. Bad dad... and... If I Was him I'd go to the police so fast the draft would split the red sea. Love your word pictures. Thanks for keeping us entertained.

Nina, BTW--As far as we know, Ed is the sperm donor for both Flo (according to him) and Julio (according to Elena). I don't think Carla strayed 9 mos. before Flo's birth.

What will come as an unpleasant surprise is Liso's sexual preferences. Can't wait to see how that works out. I think Liso is right to keep this information to a small (Mariela and Cris and lately Flo) circle of acquaintances. He needs to grow into his new self-identity and grow stronger before facing his father. Right now he'd probably either deny it or cut and run from Puebla--which might not be a bad thing, if Cris is the only gay/guy in town. I'm pretty sure they'll end up together, but it'll be a rocky trip to get there.

Nina--More: "So she doesn't know She's adopted, interesting." I don't think Mariela ever knew her biological parents. She was raised first by her bio-grandad. Whatever it was he told her was sufficient. Leo came into her life after Luci was killed and she was already 10-12 years old. He didn't adopt her, though. We're all waiting for Antonio's story of how he "lost" Mariela.

He sees Armando and Luis Martin arrive. Eureka, it is LW#2. He plans to make him DW#2.

Very nicely put Anita. Boom boom boom.

And yikes, I never thought they would kill off poor Flo. Mercy, I figured she'd be badly wounded, we'd have another interminable hospital scene and Julio would have the one rare blood type match to give her a needed transfusion.

Lordy, that was just harsh. And I kept worrying about the actress's back, splayed over that desk for so long during the filming. But guess she's young, limber and flexible, not like yours truly who every day is more like the Tin Man needing oil.

I must check out Fin de la Tierra. One of the few catalogs I don't get. Because I love all of Sara's wraps.

So Leonardo's exhibit bombed. Does that mean our down in the mouth middle-aged dweeb is coming back to Puebla? He just annoys me to death. Almost more than the wicked Rogeio and Demian. Don't know why. but ugh...

Thanks for the recap Anita. I'm still in shock that they dispatched young Flor so cruelly. Just sad.

Oh and I for one, was NOT surprised that Renata said "no". She's pure strategy and it would have been suspicious to leap in so quickly. And jeez Alonso, a little fast to "turn the page" buddy. Hold your horses for a mili-second will ya?

Wow...google, on iPad anyway, isn’t coming up with anything on fin de la Tierra catalogs. Rats!

JudyB on iPad

JudyB, same here. Just the big nada so I am thinking maybe she meant Land’s End. That would translate. I will have to take a look at their site later.

Yes, Lands End....one of my favorite places because they carry tall sizes.

"Mr&Mrs. Smith would be so imbarrassed to call him comrade in murder." --- Nina, that made me smile because that is one of the best movies out there. 😊

Yeah, Lands End. I thought you all would get it. I didn't want to be accused of promoting product placements.

Too funny...I thought, given your international background Anita, that this was some interesting South American negocio. Feeling like a big Duhhhhh this morning!

I knew right away LdlT was Lands End. Clearly I spend too much money there.

After watching the rest of this episode, one has to wonder if sprawling in the desk in such a limber manner was part of Florencia's audition.

Rafi's sins are coming back at her. Ed's, too. Karma's a bitch. So is Karla, but she probably doesn't deserve a dead daughter and an illegitimate son by her husband. Dem and Rog will hopefully get their big anvils in a spectacular, satisfying manner.

Episode #45 – Friday: All about Flo - Pt.1
*Renata gives her reasons for turning down Al—at this time. They are valid. It’s too soon, he’s on the rebound, it’s not love, he’s too full of hate for Mari, she doesn’t think he’s ready, he’s too vulnerable, it’s not the right time. (Damn—she’s so right.)

*Mariela thinks it’s her fault Leo’s exhibit tanked.

*Ed still doesn’t believe Julio when he tells him his daughter is dead. Julio calls him trash and sends him to the devil.

*Sefiro tells Liso there was nothing he could do when he returned to the office. Liso falls apart. Sef thinks her death was his fault. Someone sent someone else to kill the Vallarinos and she was in the way. Liso is ready to kill whoever it was. Sef tells him they must investigate. If they say they are suspicious of Dem, it puts the killers on notice. Liso swears to get even.

*Rog congratulates himself with a trago of tequila.

*Ed arrives at Liso’s door and gets the news and the story. The police are investigating. Ed blames Liso and tries to choke him. Sef escorts him out. Liso wants to see Flo’s body. Sef will see what he can do.

*Julio lies down next to his ma and wakes her up to tell her about Flo. He can’t hold back the tears.

*Ed returns home. His “career” certainly allows him to live in luxury….what a house! He wakes Karla to tell her about Flo. They cry in each others arms—because there’s no one else there to hug.

*Mariela calls Leo. It goes to voice mail. Al composes a text to Mari—why did she do this to him. Does he send it? Not clear. Al turns off his phone. Mari throws her phone down. It could have been frustration with Leo.

*Ren tells Fab she wants to make Al work a little bit to get her. She also wants time to gain the acceptance of the whole family, especially Sara, that she isn’t after Al at all, but also to delay further the fact that she doesn’t have a cent to her name.

*Santi tells Lety, somewhere on a park bench, he tried to stand up and failed. He thinks everyone, including his dad just feels sorry for him. Lety chews him out. He’s not the Santi she remembers. He’s just feeling sorry for himself. She urges him to take the risk with the operation.

Episode #45 – Friday - Pt.2
*Dem, who looks good in stripes, slides out of bed and leaves.

*Liso gets in to see Flo. He’s already in mourning, mourning her passing. He swears he’ll see to it that her killer gets a big anvil. He kisses her goodbye.

*Rafie’s phone rings. It’s Ed. He needs consoling.

*Somewhere in the D.F., Antonio is telling his investigator about the joy of meeting his daughter. He wanted to hug her right there. He now learns that after her ma died in childbirth, her grandfather raised her. After he died WHEN SHE WAS ELEVEN (timeline confusion again), Leonardo del Río took her under his wing. Antonio is surprised by this news. He knows of him, he almost bought a piece of sculpture from him.

*Dem is watching someone from his car.

*Mari is sleeping on the couch (huh?). A man stealthily enters and reaches for her. (Ok, Uni, I’m tired of the stuff you are schlepping in order to interrupt suspenseful moments. I’m going to guess it’s Leo and not Demián. Yep, I was right.) Leo’s back to make Mari fall in love with him. Fortunately Carmen shows up and we are spared an uncomfortable follow-up.

*Dem ends up visiting his Royal Blue Madam, Marta. She blames him for the massage girl’s death. He swears he didn’t know ahead of time or, surely she believes he would have notified her if he had. This does not change her opinion. She will no longer bed him—to straighten out their differences--nor anything else. She won't let him near any of her girls either. Dem takes a call from Rafie and he learns about Flo. He calls Rog and rousts him out of bed. They agree to meet.

*Sara wakes Al. The rest of the household is also awake outside his door. They tell him about Flo. Cara de impactada de Santi when he rolls up. Sara comforts Santi. He wants to go see her, now, alone.

Episode #45 – Friday - Pt.3
*Elena comforts Julio. Rog gives them his pésame and leaves—to meet Dem.

*Ren wonders out loud to Rafie why Flo was killed.

*Madam Marta doesn’t want Dem in her house again. He shouts back he’ll do whatever me pegue la gana, so there. Rog arrives to mix it up. Dem has an attack of apoplexia when he hears Rog killed Flo, but not Vallarino. Marta overhears everything and Dem sees she has. Rog swears there’s nothing to tie them to Flo. Rog wants to go after Sefiro. Dem says he doesn’t want any more blood shed (LOL).

*Fr. Dan, who was put in Dem’s cast off, striped p,j.s, gets a call from Sara about Flo.

*Santi tells the dead Flo how sorry he is for having been such a jerk. Al peeks in. He tells Santi they must take Flo to get her ready.

*The velorio is held at night. Dad remembers how nasty he was to her and it’s too late now. Rog brings flowers. Dem and Rafie comfort the parents. Fr. Dan arrives and gives Dem the stink eye. Dem and Rafie run into Mari and her family arriving and gives them the stink eye. They avoid a ruckus by going around Dem. Al watches Mari hug Liso. Rog is the only one to leave early. Sara leads the mourners in the Hail Mary’s.

*Mariela’s family is the next to leave, just as Cris arrives. Al leaves immediately after. Cris and Liso have a man-hug. Ed and Karla observe. What are they thinking?

Tune in Monday. Must see tv.

Thanks, Anita

They sure dragged out the notification and partial wake/funeral in good telenovela fashion.

Leonardo was just creepy even daring to touch Mariela.

Loved Royal Blue Madam. And oh my Karma is piling on big-time. Eduardo was a jerk, and a real louse with Elena. And Karla was not my favorite character. But still...the death of a daughter and the beginning realization that their son is gay (news that most parents need time to assimilate even in these "enlightened times") seems rather harsh.

Renata's character is very astutely written. I loved her reasoning for going slow with Alonso but of course her doofus husband wants to wrap things up quickly. Demian should hire her to put his business to rights; she's got the smarts for it.

Agree with Jarifa that Leonardo is creepy to the extreme. There is nothing in the presentation of this character that makes him appealing, in my opinion. And Mariela certainly looked annoyed and exasperated last night before being thunderstruck by the news of Florencia's death.

I find the morgue dramatic farewells a bit ick-worthy also. Maybe that's a cultural difference but oh my, a bit much.

Well, no lack of action. More facades are being dropped and secrets revealed as we roll along.

Thanks Anita. As always, you got the high points while inserting your own wonderful brand of insight and humor into it. And Mozart of course.

Thank you, Anita, for your sassy recap.
Oh my, what another capítulo with more wailing, gnashing of teeth, and funeralizing. FFWd-->

Rog --- Dude, I didn't man to kill her. It was an accident!
DimDem --- You are the. worst. hit. man. ever!

I didn't realize Dem saw Marta eavesdropppng. Yikes!

Cris caressing Liso at the funeral was a bold move; as bold as Liso accepting it. The look on Ed & Karla's faces was priceless. Will they accept their son, once they are clued in? My prediction: Karla-yes. Ed-no.

So, creepy Leo has returned. Even his hair is creepy. Puh-leeze, just leave town again, and soon. Barf.

Must see TV, indeed.

doris, loved “funeralizing”.

A friend of a friend posted this today...

http://www.phoenixfiredesigns.com/blog/2018/08/resin-pendant-blowout-sale/

scroll down to the hearts. When I saw them, I thought of this show :)

Anita this was deliciously funny. Now
Leo is mari's adopted daddy who is in love with her also? That's abit creepy
Isn't it? Well on "days of our lives"
Doug was in love with julie while he was married to her mother. Mom died and She was even pregnant with hope by step daddy Doug. That was creepy back
There too. I don't think Mari will end
Up with Leo. Isn't he a stepdaddy or sume such. Huh,confusing. But I was glad that was him and not demerit. His
Madam wants nothing more to do with him. Why Did she anyway? I liked when she told him no more woopy for you.

Rog and demwit knows they've screwed up. Big time. Rog is the worst hitman
Indeed. He's kinda stupid with it too.

All the usual suspects at the funeral
On their best behavior, all the prim
And proper upstanding citizens. A bunch of wusses all of them. Oboy The serman padre Dan could preach about this Crew. One family giving the other
Family the stink eye. Everybody is smelly at that funeral except the body
In the box.

Thanks Anita, your funnyness made this better.

leo is just out of hand! He is so unappealing as a character- a shame for a handsome guy like that to be playing such a problematic annoying chracter. I keep thinking of that song from Sound of Music - “How do we solve a problem like María” i cant figire out what they can do about getting him out of the way. Now that hes back in town without Denise, everyone is going to think that mariela is indeed in love with him.
GET HIM OUT of PUEBLA, PaaaaLeeze,
A lot of bad, bad stuff going on now. We need at least one nice thong to happen now to counteract all this tragedy and frustration. THROW us a bone, UNIVISION! Where is your heart?

Amotelenovelas said "We need at least one nice thong to happen now . . .". baaaHaaahaaahaaa!!!
Yes, I would like a nice thong to happen, or a gratuitous shower scene, or swimming hole scene . . .
This gave me the biggest laff today. I know it was autocorrect that hijacked you, amotelenovelas.
Autocorrect is our enema!

Nina - Leo isn't even Mari's stepdad. He is more like her legal guardian after her grandfather was killed and she had no other family. He left town with Mari to keep her safe, IIRC.

Here's what happens if you are retired and settled into a routine. After getting a bite to eat, doing dishes, a load of laundry, stirring the compost pile, checking on the tomatoes and the figs I settled down to recap CQM at 11. What? No SHOW? Ooops, it's Saturday!

Amor--A throng of Thongs is needed to save this one. Since we won't be able to get Leo out of Puebla, we can only hope Mari puts her foot down and he spends the rest of the show in his studio creating angels for the church.

Oh, Doris--...our enema? Yes, indeedy.

Nina--According to our collective IIRCs, Leo was never married to Mari's mother (do we even know her name). In fact he's never married. After Luci was killed and he took off for NYC and other parts unknown, he admits to Carmen to having had a lot of short term relationships, but Luci's memory was always in the way. Denise has hung on the longest.

We DO suspect him of having had pre-marital relations with Luci before she got married to DamDem and Alonso is his love-child.

5ftLatina, thanks for the link.

Doris that made Me laugh.
Autocorrect is wicked. Lol.

Oh Anita bless your heart. You can get one of those retirement
Jobs at Wal-Mart,"hello welcome
To Walmart". Thats another thing
With autocorrect, it don't know
The - is separating Wal from Mart anymore. "Walmart".

Well, more mysteries to come Anita.
Thanks for that.

I’m grateful that my autocorrect injected some humor into this diacussuon! I think there is more to that autocorrect than we imagine! Just like Apple changes our settings sometimes without asking, i think autocorrect is a real THING with a wicked sense of humor. There are too many times when AC (autocorrect) changes a word totally with zero similarity linguistically or phonetically or algorythmically to what we typed. In the 60s/70s when answering machines first came on the market ( and everything electronic came from Japan), my Dad always said there was a Japanese guy in the machine answering his phone and i think he really believed it!!! Well, ill be dam-ed if there isnt some very wicked person or alien in charge of autocorrect, laughing up a storm because he/she/it knows we would never believe such a thing!!!!
I’m not going to revise this post to see what AC changed. So there!!!!

A funny autocorrect story - this week, Our pest control guy came for his quarterly visit. He was telling me how the other day, he was trying to send a text message to the main office that his GPS had him arriving fifteen minutes late (to his next appointment). The autocorrect decided to say that GOD shad him running fifteen minutes late. LOL

Autocorrect has a devilish sense of humor.

Doris- one of your older comments about the expression ("era de dientes para afuera)
You said on august 1: "What I take away from this is the idea that when we run into someone and we say "let's get together for lunch sometime", while we never really intend to do that. I learned from my adult ESL conversation classes that this drives non-Americans crazy when their own culture is straightforward and more honest about such things."

This strikes me FUNNY because I always think of Mexicans as SO POLITE (and civil even when they are furious), that they would easily say something like "Let's get together for lunch sometime." because they would think it rude to just say goodby...---they would want to sound as if they are looking forward to seeing you again. In the telenovelas, even in the worst of scenes, the character always says "CON PERMISO." I was surprised to read that comment. Anyway, I assume these ESL students are hispanic but from where?

A sociolinguistic example that gives me a real kick is that Russians find the American typical "FINE" response to "how are you? as really really strange because when they are asked that question, they respond with a TRUE sometimes extensive answer!! (I mean how many times are we totally fine but it is just a kind of automated response).

Amotelenovelas - yes, our "Fine" response drives foreigners crazy, too. When I had a class, there was usually a mix of Latino (mostly Mexican), Korean and Japanese. While we think of Latinos being super polite, it was either one of my own Spanish teachers or a neighbor from Colombia who told me they think nothing of asking a friend "have you gained weight?" Yikes! That won't fly here in the U.S......something else would fly.....after it hit the fan. :-p

That is really funny!! I have close friends from Colombia and i know there are definite cultural differences, especially different expectations....but i cant imagine either of them asking (what we consider) outrageous/out of line questions. HOWEVER, in my own occasional experience with Koreans, i CAN imagine that. OK, doris, i just googled this question and here is what i found:
<>
I was an ESL in NYC for many years (a long time ago) and BOY do i remember some interesting cultural differences— esp with Asians and Middle Eastern.

It won't go through for some reason. Ill try without the marks

Korean people are way too curious. They have no sense in asking personal questions that in the Western and Middle-Eastern world would be considered rude.
