Corazón Que Miente, Week 14 (9/3/18)–Friday Quarter-Finals: Fibre is out of the running.

Episode #69
*Santi and Ant are hunched over their restaurant meet-up. Santi isn’t convinced at first that what Ant is telling him about the NotNotRen is true. Ant fills him in. She’s really Mireille. Mireille became Renata so she and Fab could finish the scam job they started in Puerto Vallarta. They plotted to do away with both Don Francisco and his daughter, the real Renata, to get ahold of all Don F’s wealth. Then they learned they couldn’t cash in on it. Fab served time only for fraud since there was no evidence of murder. Mireille came to Puebla as Renata to see how much she could get out of the Ferrers. (I don’t think she expected Fab to be released and find her so soon.) Ant wraps it up for Santi. Mireille and Renata were close friends, so she was able to learn lots of details on the Ferrer family. Oh, and BTW, she’s married to Fab. Ant leaves it to the Ferrers to turn her in.

*Ha! Carmen doesn’t believe Leo’s story about Mari’s absence when Leo and Al show up to access Mari’s computer. Al finds nothing to help. Sara calls Al. She wants him to come to the house to see something important that involves him.

*Marta flees as far as the front of her driveway. Zan catches up with her and puts her under arrest as accomplice in Dorote’s death.

*Sara leaves Al alone to watch the audio/video on the flash drive. Al watches the replay of the whole Ren-Rafie scene where they admit to lots of hanky-panky, including Ren bedding Santi first and having Al eating out of her hand, so he will believe anything she tells him. Al’s eyes are finally opened to the cute little strumpet he opted to marry. (I guess the wedding is off—permanently.) The coup de grâce comes when he has to hear Ren’s side of her conversation when she mentions pulling off the Costa Alegre deal under Al’s eyes. Total disillusionment crosses Al’s face as he hears this. (He does disillusion well for the camera, dontcha think?)

*Liso and Cef tell Preciado in his office they know he’s up to his neck in Dem’s dirty shorts, so if anything happens to Mari, he’ll be the one responsible. Preciado stays calm. Liso doesn’t. Cef tells Preciado he’s going to go over Prec’s head to his supervisor with his accusations. Prec thinks he’s ok because there’s no proof. Liso tries one more time to find out where Dem is holding Mari. Prec says he has no more to say. They leave. Prec feels safe, for now.

*Leo tries to get in touch with Antonio.

*Sara returns to get Al’s reaction. They made a fool of him. He’s angry. Sara tries to make him feel better because he couldn’t have known about Ren’s deceptions, she was that good.

*Marta gets a perp walk across the patio of the police headquarters. Prec watches out of sight. He then calls the Only Bad Cop in uniform over and orders him to do what must be done. Inside, Zan urges Marta, who is now behind bars, to confess. She wants her lawyer. A look-alike bad cop comes in to the holding area and tells Zan he’s wanted outside.

*Leo muses over Luci’s photo and pledges justice for her and promises to make sure Al doesn’t make the same mistake they did. He pledges to find Mari and reunite her with Al.

*Ren is contemplating something or other, maybe her future, stretched out on her bed. Al walks in. She can tell he’s pissed and rushes to him to see what’s wrong. She’s all innocence until Sara walks in accompanied by Elena and Poinciano, the gardener. (Where has he been since last June, anyway.) Ren hangs on to Al, physically, wrapping herself around his legs, as if that’s all she needs to keep him—that and her vale of tears. Al disengages himself and Sara orders her out of the house. Elena and Poinciano have to drag her away. (Oh, ok, they needed a man to assist, and Al didn't want to touch her any more.)

*Prec comes to see Marta. He promises to free her that night. She has to trust him and keep her mouth closed.

*It’s all over for Ren-the-novia. She’s locked out of the gates to the manse with only her curly brown hair, red jacket over black top and pants. (My favorite combination, darn it. Long hair is long gone, though.)

*Rafie and Ed find out his bank account has been thoroughly emptied of funds. (Is this fundgicide?) They conclude it had to be Luci, who has access to all his accounts. Ed also finds out his firm’s account has been blocked. He calls the bank and is told it has been frozen pursuant to some government action.

*The only Other Bad cop in Mexico arrests Zan for drug trafficking and hold him as Prec shows Zan the contraband and announces they’ve been following him for six months. Zan knows this was all a set up to keep him from telling what he knows about all that’s going on with the Ferrer’s.

*Santi arrives back at the manse and tells Sara and Al all about Ren. He has the police waiting outside to arrest her. However, she’s a gone girl. She’s headed for Fab’s digs. She’s homeless, but she’s still Renata. They get in the car and flee.

*Al begins to tell Pad Dan about Ren when Leo calls. He’s on his way over. PD learns Mari is missing and Dem is a fugitive. They suspect he has her. Pad Dan thinks he knows where they are. It’s an abandoned property of his grandmother’s. (So, I was wrong, but it still doesn’t look like a house or a mansion.) He tells them to hurry. Mari is in danger. After Leo and Al leave, he has Sara call the police for back-up.

*The only Bad cop in Mexico drags Marta down the stairs of headquarters while she screams for her lawyer.

*Dem is marching Mari up the stairs in the abandoned “house.” He’s screaming for her to sign the damned document and she’s screaming back that she won’t. In a rage because she won’t sign, he threatens to kill her the way he killed her grandfather, as he lights a paper on fire, and for the same reason—he wouldn’t sign. He brushes off facing justice because there’s no proof. He goes back to his gun, pointing it at Mari and threatening her. He hesitates pulling the trigger while he fulminates over her recalcitrance.

*The CAVALRY has arrived to save her—well, the advance infantry of two have arrived. Leo and Al are snooping around the building and then go inside. (I guess they saw the lighted windows.) It’s Al to the rescue. Ay Caray, he knocks the gun out of Dem’s hands and socks him a good one that sends him reeling. While the men untie Mari, Dem turns and aims his gun to shoot at someone, anyone, all of them. Leo sees him and steps in front and, in poetic justice, is shot with the same gun that killed his beloved Luci. Dem pulls the trigger again, but he’s out of bullets. Mari and Al tend to Leo. Dem grabs a silver satchel and takes off just as the cavalry does arrive.

*Change of venue. It’s Ant and Denise having a lively tête-a-tête over dinner. Deni has dialed back the red lipstick to deep shiny pink and has pulled her hair back. (Now she seems more Ant’s style to me.) He sees he has a couple of missed calls from Leo, but won’t let that interfere with the nice things Deni is saying about him. She’s pleased with her choice of man. There are “te amos” on both sides.

*Leo is wheeled out of the grandmother’s abandoned property and into a waiting ambulance. Al lets the waiting cops know that Dem has escaped. They don’t think he’s gone too far. Leo is still alive when they reach the Puebla clinic. Every available doc and beyond is mustered.

*Awww. Fab and Ren have no cash on them, nor access to any, to pay for a hotel. At least they had enough for Chinese take-out.

*Rog gets a call. It must be Dem. Rog says nicely he’ll pick him up. (We think, or hope, that Rog is finally fed up with Dem and his fantasy of getting Quadrum back.) Dem is seen begging him for help.

*The cast assembles at the hospital to wait for news of Leo’s state. Sara asks Al to forgive her for how she treated Mariela and the part she played in ruining Luci’s happiness. Al hugs her and says it’s ok now. He’s still getting used to the idea that Dem killed him mother. The OR team work on Leo. They can’t extract the bullet. It’s too near the heart. They are going to close him up and hope for a miracle.

*Cef tells Liso about The Only Good Cop in Mexico getting arrested for drug trafficking. Zan is seen talking to either a police supervisor or his lawyer. He’s behind bars now. He swears the drugs were planted because he was getting too close to the Dem-Prec collusion.

*Rog hot-wires Al’s red sports car, which apparently belongs to the company. He and Dem take off.

*Carmen wonders where everyone is. Cirila spills the beans on Leo. Carmen has a fainting episode.

*A police cruiser stops on a lonely spot on the highway. The driver pulls Marta out and tells her to get lost and never come back. She doesn’t hesitate this time. She sheds her shoes and takes off running. The cop takes aim at her back. He has to wait while a truck passes him. She’s now a gone girl, too. He takes off after her in the cruiser.

*Secre Luci calls Fab to laugh in his face. Since he’s driving, Ren hold the phone out for them to hear Luci say he’s got no money and she’s enveloped in cash. She’s a better extortionist than he is. Oh, and BTW, she’s not even preggers. Ren sees police flashing lights behind them and Fab speeds up. (We think we know where this is going, but they each deserve a hot anvil on their  respective derrieres.)

*The cast at the hospital gets the bad news at the clinic. Leo is in a bad way. He’s asked to talk to Mariela and Alonso.

Thank you for your recap, Anita, and the snark!!!

Dem is a cornered rat. Getting killed would be too easy for him.

If the bullet stays in Leo and he lives thru this, won't he get lead poisoning? I know nothing about GSWs, but seems dangerous, to me. Dead man walking? Is there enough time for another telenovela miracle???

Satisfying episode. Don't know why, but I'm glad Marta was able to get away. Also muy glad Ed has no money. I guess Rafi kissed and made up with him. Will she ditch him now that he is broke? Does we even care?

I must have been distracted when Cirila found out Leo was shot, because that caught me off guard.

Thank you, Anita.

My favorite part was when Renata was physically removed from the house. I laughed so hard with her literally hanging on Alonso’s leg. That was the best.

doris, Yes! Getting killed would be too easy for Demián.

When Rogelio was writhing with abdominal pain yesterday, I kept thinking he needed looser pants than those tight ones he wears. LOL

Cirila was plain annoying not going to tell Carmen when she got the news about Leonardo and then barely being able to tell her. She’s annoyed me for the whole novela.

I really enjoyed this episode.

Anita this was a good recap and episode. I loved seeing the rats and cocka roaches gettin caught in their
Traps.

Really prec? it should be pric. Set up
Zan? I hope that lawyer believes Zan.
He looked like he didnt. And told that
Bad bald cop to off Marta. I'm glad she got away but she's gonna pay for her part in this too.

So, what does Demnut(I decided to give
Him another name)have in that silver
Briefcase? Some money to live off of? Is he gonna share with rogroach? No!

Loved seeing fake ren being dragged out kickin and screamin. Did she really think allonso would believe any
Thing from her lying lips. I can't stand her voice. I know The actress speaks that way for real, maybe if she
Wasn't playing a slutty crook it would
Not bother me. But it matches her evil
Character.I hear she has a good singin
Voice. But she play nasty very well.

Ok Im starting to like alonso's new dad. But what happens? he get's shot
Saving his son and future daughter in law. And now the bullet is to close to his heart to get. Could it move? Why
Couldn't it have been in the back? Then it would Have been to close to his spine, he'd be in a wheelchair but
He would still be here and become a world famous artist, and Denise could
Still manage his career. Or however it
Was done. Not fair he just found his dad. Somebody pray to Guadalupe we need a miracle for Leo. He shouldn't die & Demnut and rogroach get away.

Mari should go and take a shower she
Been all over the floor in water.Yuck.

So secre luci stole fabs stolen money?
Hah, no honor among thieves.

Anita this was great, Thank you.

Anita – what a fun, jazzy recap! You really nailed all the details.

A big thank-you to Judy B for suggesting this show… I’ve really enjoyed it. Great plotting – things really moved along - and there were lots of unexpected twists and turns. Scenery was pretty too. I was very surprised when I realized this week that it was wrapping up. Everything’s happening so fast! Has it maybe been cut? I don’t notice any missing bits.

The best thing about this show is Thelma Madrigal (Mariela). Very natural, very believable. Why hasn’t she been cast in another show? Or is she in something coming up?

The whole cast is terrific. Even Diego Olivera (Leonardo) has grown on me. I still can’t figure out why a sculptor’s studio has so many pots of paints, though. I kept hoping he’d go into a rage and do that telenovela standard, the table sweep. That’d be a colorful scene!

As for tonight’s episode – poor Renata being chucked out without even being able to grab her purse. She won’t have any lipstick! And no clothes! What’s she going to do without her collection of weensy bathing suits?

Is Que Bonito Amor good? I love mariachis!

Maggie--Thank you for adding a voice to our patio--even if it's at the end. About QBA--if you don't mind a totally unbelievable story, two seriously overacted, wacky "American" police officers, where everyone in the States speaks Spanish, an aging galan who doesn't do his own singing, you'll love it. (Dana Garcia, OTOH, puts in a sterling performance. She's almost worth it alone.)

Thank you for another stellar recap, Anita.
I loved all the snark, but especially enjoyed the following :
"Al’s eyes are finally opened to the cute little strumpet he opted to marry. (I guess the wedding is off—permanently.)"
"She’s all innocence until Sara walks in accompanied by Elena and Poinciano, the gardener. (Where has he been since last June, anyway.)"
"The CAVALRY has arrived to save her—well, the advance infantry of two have arrived."
"He sees he has a couple of missed calls from Leo, but won’t let that interfere with the nice things Deni is saying about him."
"(We think we know where this is going, but they each deserve a hot anvil on their respective derrieres.)"

I enjoyed this episode very much, but am pissed off beyond words at Al, the dumbest most incompetent galan ever. Leo getting shot is completely his fault. When he tackled Dem, the gun flew from Dem's hand and landed near Al. Al, instead of picking up the weapon and pointing it at Dem (the only logical thing to do), leaves the gun and Dem to go to Mariella, who is totally fine and is being untied and comforted by Leo. Without even bothering to secure the gun and the evil murderer that was pointing said gun at people a second ago!!! I just can't believe someone can be so dumb!!! What was he thinking Dem would do while he is making himself unnecessarily helpful to Mariella, wait patiently until he finishes professing his love while eating a bowl of Fibre ?!! But then again, what can one expect from a galan with a charisma of gnat that dresses worse than a 90 year old grandmother?

Leo better not die from this!

Irene

Aww. C'mon, Irene, Al dresses better than Leo, Noe and the gardener.
I could go either way with Leo. He's been a bit useless and interfering, but I'd hate for Al to lose another parent to gun fire so soon.
I wonder if Bad Cop In Cruiser will find Marta. He goes faster than she would barefoot.

Anita, I applaud you for your keen attention to details. I must admit that I paid no attention whatsoever to the gardener's attire (or his name, to be honest), so I can't comment about him, but Noe definitely dresses better than Al. I agree with you about Leo, but at least he has an excuse - he is a struggling middle aged artist and his life sucks on every possible level, so looking like he just stepped out of a thrift shop is the least of his worries. Al, on the other hand, is a young and rich entrepreneur, so there is no excuse for him to dress like a grandmother.

I sure hope telenovela magic happens and Bad Cop is unsuccessful in finding Marta. I don't particularly like Christian and find his relationship with Liso tepid at best, but I would hate for him to lose his aunt. That being said, I am o.k with him visiting her in prison for the rest of her life. She is as guilty as Rog and Dem for what happened to that poor Dutch girl.
A propos Liso, I think he has much more chemistry with Zan than with Christian. Sparks flew when Zan and Liso were standing really close and speaking in high tones after Padre Dan's testimony. I started shipping them after that conversation.

Irene

Oops, It just came to my mind that my posts above are inadvertently implying that older women dress badly. That was not my intention. I am aware that people can have good or bad taste in clothing in any age and older people often dress way better than much younger people . My own late grandmother definitely had better taste in clothes than myself. I used to walk around in a shirt with a huge grotesque leopard print on it and thought I looked good in it.

Irene

Y'all are so funny talkin about these people's bad wardrobe choices and the
Gardener that only makes an appearance
When someone needs to be extracted out
Of the mansion. I agree with you Irene Al is an architect, he should dress lots better than his new found daddy the ol Struggling artist. Who is not that old.

I never liked cris, he always looks like he smells something stinky.

That truck slowed up just enough for Marta to zip behind it, dash into the
Bushes. Bald bad cop went on down the road. I hope he don't find her cuz he
Would have to carry out his orders to kill her.Yeah pricprec ordered him to kill her. Then cris would really look like he smells something,he crys ugly.

I knew you weren't saying elderly folk dress bad Irene. My grandma was a
Snazzy dresser, and she loved her pearls. Couldn't tell granny she Wasn't dressed to the nines. And Some elderly dress better than some of the
Younger people who spin hundreds of $$
On one blouse that look like something
Out of a romper room fashion show.
Sometimes I think the wardrobe people
Miss it by a mile. Ok Few hundred miles.

"I never liked cris, he always looks like he smells something stinky". This is a very accurate description of Chris, Nina. I don't find this actor particularly attractive, but my main problem with Chris' character is that he has been completely and totally useless throughout the telenovela, as a doctor, as a galan and as best friend to Mariella.
I blame the writers for failing to flesh this character. They could have done so much more with him, but settled on making him merely a love interest for Liso and a horribly unstable and moody love interest at that.

"Sometimes I think the wardrobe people miss it by a mile. Ok Few hundred miles." I would pay good money to get to sit with people responsible for dressing our telenovela characters in various atrocities and ask them why.

Actually, visiting a telenovela set and having an unlimited access to telenovela writers, scene directors, make-up artists, stunt-coordinators etc.. so that I could ask them millions of questions is high on my bucket list.

Irene

P.S : My bucket list is bonkers and includes items such as playing a chismosa maid (replete with a traditional uniform) in a telenovela; recreate D'Artagnan's horse ride from Paris to London (I am a huge Alexandre Dumas fan and love "The Three Musketeers"); hire two private detectives to follow each other and see what happens; join David Attenborough on one of his adventures; dub an entire telenovela by myself (I have this dream ever since I visited Poland many years ago and saw snippets of a telenovela dubbed in Polish by one man with a very deep voice, who read every single part ( male, female, child) etc...

Irene, I love your bucket list! Mine includes putting on full football pads and helmet and falling down, just to see what it feels like.

I'm glad this TN wasn't this exciting all along, or Anita and I would have had nervous breakdowns. But it sure is a fun ride.

You should definitely cross falling down in full football pads from your bucket list, Blue Lass. It sounds a lot of fun, I might steal this idea and add it to my bucket list.
There are a lot of crazy bucket list things that I actually managed to cross off and highly recommend because they are amazing : volcano-boarding in Nicaragua (Cerro Negro); swimming with wild pink water dolphins near Rurrenabaque (Bolivia)-that one was insanely amazing, but very dangerous because the river is full of caimans and piranhas and the dolphins actually bite while playing with you and it hurts like hell; visiting volcanic White Island in New Zealand while wearing a gaz mask and being enveloped in yellow volcanic fumes that make the island look like something from science fiction or Lost/the 100; spotting different kinds of lemurs in Madagascar; waiting outside the city hall of Gubbio (Italy) during festa dei ceri and asking every single public official/city dignitary/mayor whether he can invite me to the amazing feast inside until one person actually does; rappelling into a cave; experiencing via ferrata; kissing the Blarney stone to get the gift of the gab while a complete stranger holds my feet so I can reach it and more.

Irene

Whew, Irene, just reading your crossed off items tired me out. What energy....and you still have time to comment on poorly executed telenovelas--Now That's a Bucket List Item to cross off--but then we wouldn't have your insight and opinions to enjoy.

Ok, I'll concede, Noe's short-sleeved maroon sweaters look better than Al's rosy pressed wool casual jacket he's been seen to wear recently. Truly not something someone at his career level would wear in the offices of a multi-national conglomerate (regardless of the fact it was built out of cards). Maybe wardrobe was indicating that the younger generation is much more casual than the older one (exception--artists).

Anita, this is only a very small (but exciting) fraction of my crossed items. However, they were crossed off over a relatively long period of time, so commenting about telenovelas didn't interfere with them at all.

Noe's sweaters are quite o.k, not very exciting but not horrible. Al's jacket was a crime against humanity. I still think that someone in the wardrobe department mistakenly assigned a jacket meant for Sara to Al.

Irene

P.S: I did a lot of backpacking when I was a student and once slept 13 consecutive nights in overnight trains.

Blue Lass, you and Anita did an amazing job recapping this telenovela, which in my opinion had no filler episodes at all. Not all the episodes were super exciting, but I can't remember a single time I was bored.

When it's over, I don't know what I am going to do to get my daily telenovela fix.
I like Salinas and his dimples, but I saw La Hija de Mariachi, so Que Bonito Amor with its 160 episodes of refrito does not appeal to me.
I didn't watch MMTF( I still have PTSD from Sueno de horror, so anything by Osorio is off the table, especially anything with multiple child characters) and will not tune in for MMTMF.
Lately, all Telemundo has to offer is either some kind of variation on the narco theme or bat.hit crazy, so I am not sure I want to watch Falsa Identidad.

I don't know what to do, Caray Caray.

Irene

Irene--I'm going to try out Falsa Identidad. I've just finished reading the first two vols. of the Sparrow trilogy, so nothing surprises me anymore. I don't know that I want to SEE it all, so I'm ambivalent. I also just finished re-watching my DVD of Alborada for the third time. There's nothing like a well written, well acted costume drama--in any language. Wish I had the whole thing, though they did a fairly good job editing it down.

Anita, historical telenovelas are my favorite. I loved Pasion, Alborada, Corazon Salvaje and Ramona. There are a lot of great Brazilian historical telenovelas if you can get them. I higly recommend Escrava Isaura, Sinha Moca and Orgulho e Paixao.

Irene

Irene - I bailed on Sueño de Horror after a few weeks, and the first season of MMTF is nothing like it. I expect MMTMF to be the same. Plz give it a try. You can always bail out. No judgement from the Patio.

"Maybe wardrobe was indicating that the younger generation is much more casual than the older one (exception--artists)"
This is a good theory and has to be the reason.
Honestly, Al's jacket choices have not bothered me. Leo's do.

Irene, you sound like a real extrovert! Most of the items on your list would give me nightmares. And I used to work with wildlife, so I've been bitten quite enough times, thanks. I still have nerve damage on my left thumb from when I barehanded a flying squirrel.

I don't know what to watch next, either. I was going to give QBA a try until someone said Salinas was dubbed. I love mariachi music, but I expect it to come out of actual mouths.

Guess I'll tune in for the beginning of MMTMF and see how it goes...meanwhile, I am camping out in the CASA DE LAS FLORES and loving it.

FWIW, the singing in La Hija del Mariachi was dubbed, too. That did not deter me from enjoying and cherishing it, at all.

At the bottom of the page at this Wikipedia link, it says the QBA version was something of a disaster ---"This remake soap opera wasn't successful and in many countries was cut off or even taken off from television due low ratings."
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Hija_del_Mariachi
Like me, if you saw the original, nothing else compares. Same with Betty La Fea (for me).

Blue Lass - are there subtitles for CDLF on Netflix? We don't have Netflix, but if you keep talking about this one, I might have to give it a try. .

Doris, you may have your subtitles in either Spanish or English. ;)

It’s quite racy, but I think you can handle it.

"Join David Attonborough on one of his
Adventures". You may have to scratch that one off Irene, Sir Attonborough passed away Earlier this year. I like watching him on reruns on planet Earth :Blue pacific. And all Those other planet earth shows. I like his british accent.
My brother calls them nature shows. I think they go beyond that. But nice bucket list.

"One man with a deep voice who read all the parts(male, female & child) etc...lol, that would have been very funny to watch.

Irene, I did not like Sueño de amor but recapped it anyway. I signed up to recap MMTF because I liked the leads. It turned out to be one of my all time favorite novelas. I think it could be Osorio’s best work. Join us on the Patio and give the second season a try!

"One man with a deep voice who read all the parts(male, female & child)" reminds me of Dick Estell on our local NPR affiliate, decades ago.

I think Marta is toast!

Blue Lass, volunteering in a wildlife rescue center is one of my dreams. I am sure you had a lot of fun working with wildlife and handling flying squirrels sounds really exciting (except the biting part).

Nina, Sir Attenborough that passed away not so long ago is David Attenborough's brother.
Luckily, the wonderful, charming and brilliant David Attenborough, who is 92 years old, is still going strong (touch wood) and working on several projects. He is the most traveled person on earth and an amazing human being.

Jarifa, I did fast-forward through some MMTF episodes to see what everyone was talking about, but it has too much mundane family drama, no worthy villains and way too many children for my taste.

Irene

NOTE: The recap will be late. Had too much on my plate this morning--but it wasn't breakfast.

Thanks, Anita! Take your time. I'm sure it will be worth it.

Irene, Thank you for that correction.
When I heard that news broadcast I thought it was him. But I'm glad it was not. Sorry about his brother tho.
So glad he's Still here. I enjoy seein Him in planet earth:blue Pacific
And the others. And he has so much fun doing Those nature shows.
